#4 I didn't know the DNC was taking a joint trip to Ol' Blighty.

Of course they went straight to the kitchens.

#5 As a side note, Buckingham Palace is an incredibly old building that the Royal Family has been begging for the funds for a full restoration for (it still looks immaculate to the public, but the background stuff, like the electrical, plumbing, and hidden areas, are disaster zones from what they have said). Of course there are going to be mice in a situation like that.

#7 In the first season of the BBC series Victoria, the attempt to put in electricity in Buckingham Palace drove the rats from their happy homes in the kitchen walls out into the public spaces of the building. This came to the young queen’s attention when — as depicted in the episode — she saw rats on the table holding her birthday cake.

Rats holding a birthday cake sounds kind of cute in a Pixar sort of way.

#12 "Insane! You intend to impinge
On as holy and hoary a henge
As ever was seen
In a new queen's demesne --
The estate of the great Mr. Penge?"

"Perhaps you are right. I shall call on Lord Melbourne and take another turn on his wonderful couch."
"Eek!"
