#2 The chinese are in the habit of confiscating people's pets for trifling reasons, like barking a lot, smelling, chasing after postmen. They once confiscated parrots because some stupid sect in china worshiped a giant parrot.

Whatever this research is, it's not for the furry, cutesy reasons it is being taken as. Most likely a PR front and moneymaker for the real business of cloning human organs. There's a donor shortage in China.

Considering this is sort of a 'backwoods' area of the country, I could only extrapolate what it is like in real metro areas.
