#1 Isn't it interesting how some documented foreign interference in a nation's political life is pooh-poohed as "illusory" or out and out wonderful but some imaginary foreign interference is out and out gospel to some?

#2 If I understand all this, the reforms that Mr. Modi is proposing will open up the free market in agriculture and eventually benefit everyone--more efficient farming, higher incomes, lower prices, less government bureaucracy, etc.

Earlier, the farmer had to rely on a syndicate of richer farmers and produce market officials. Now, the farmer can simply sell to the corporate procurer for whatever price above or equal to a minimum set price. Earlier, the farmer had to get his produce to the market himself, paying octroi, bribes, transport fees etc all the way. Now, the buyer is responsible for all of this.

Naturally it cuts out many middlemen and touts who one had to pay. These are the bulk of the people 'protesting'. They are claiming that Modi is setting up his corporate friends with a system that will cheat the farmer somehow, 'cut jobs', etc. Putting touts and thugs out of business is not cutting jobs.
