Yes, very good information...and I suppose that if a hacker can read the high & low use time during the day of a neighborhood, he could tell who is home and who is not (robber), then turn the power off completely (no burglar alarm) enter and exit.

Does anyone still think my comment a few days ago on the ITSEC issues of embedded communications in Powerlines is far fetched?

Remember I noted that Power Companies have been playing with IT/Comm/Data over Power lines for going on 20+ years. Even had a Northeast corridor hacker related outage many years ago.

#3 NN, I've been one of the "that doesn't need to be connected to the internet" voices since day one. won't buy lots of peripherals that seem unwilling to operate unless you "create and account" and let HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc. probe them at will. And don't even get me started on expensive hardware that becomes an ashtray when the manufacturer decides to close down the "cloud" back-end.

#4 My favorite, of course, is the cheap chinese can opener that needs your email, bank account routing number and SSN.

#6 Hash is now analyzing the smart meter mechanism responsible for remotely disconnecting a home’s power.

Now, that's interesting!

#7 AFAIK those who elected to have smart meters installed were made aware of having their power manipulated without their further participation.

#8 Possibly, but in Illinois we didn't have an option whether or not we wanted a smart meter.

#9 "in Illinois we didn't have an option" Only option for residents of Illinois is to leave the state ASAP, then.
