#5 I wonder what things would look like if in 2001 we had given Dostum the military support we gave Karzai et al. Human Rights Watch would have dialed it up to Maximum Vapors, but we might have saved ourselves 2400 American lives. And Dostum might yet come out on top.

#7 It was a design by Baby Boomers in awe of their fathers and the rebuilding of Germany and Japan. They refused to notice that you can't plant democracy in a country that has no real basis for it while at the same time centralizing and concentrating power back home to destroy what democracy you did have.
