#1 Not so much the failure of modern civilization than the success of islam. Maybe if the Afghans learned to see it this way, they'd be happier.

Seriously, if you are unwilling to shuck Allah hoolery in favour of intellectual liberty and freedom of self determination, there isn't much anybody can do for you. Islamics are expecting the modern world to build them socialist utopias while their society can continue to wallow in mohamed's slime. Anybody who can't see that and continues to throw precious resources at them is a fucking idiot.

There is all this talk of saving the earth and the climate and stuff. Anybody ever stopped to consider the costs of these airstrikes? Multimillion dollar warheads and tonnes of HEX to take out handfuls of hydra heads that grow back in a week? The costs in fuel and firepower and just the toil and suffering of men and their families who wasted their lives over there. And for what? So moslems could get a better equipped pad for their moslem festivities? How are regular afghans different, from our perspective, from the black turbans? Why must we worry about their women and their liberals, when they will neevr ackowledge the basic problem is not violence or Pakistani interference, but islam itself.

Christians are prosecuted and persecuted by the 'Democratic Government' of Afghanistan too. A moslem converting to christianity, or somebody preaching the faith can be thrown in jail arbitrarily. Hindus and sikhs were always considered non-threats as long as they do not congregate or play out their rituals. You have to have the mark of the mohameddan beast in your hand and your forehead to even have a life in the free, non-taliban AFG. Religious minorities my foot...

#3 20 years, and trillions dollars, most of which went into somebody pockets. Not to mention all those lives lost.

what we should have done was just bomb the heck out of the Taliban and be done with it in a couple months way back then.

There is no nation building where the devil worshipers are concerned.

We should nuke the Taliban section of Pakistan while we're at it.

#10 #1 Thanks Dron, it needed saying.

As for Kabul, it sounds as though it's very far from over. We have staff on the ground and the first Marines as well with an element of the 82nd 'on the way'. Additionally it is being reported...nice operational security you got going there, that B-52's are in the air targeting Mazar-i-sharif.

So there is going to be a light brigade with small arms hoping (evidently) to peacefully evacuate our people, contra a geared up Taliban. Oh by the way, let's not allow that ArcLite raid and resultant seismic disturbance get between friends. My friends and I made better plans playing war when we were kids.

#20 There's never been any political will to destroy the Taliban after 9/11.

Bush's blustering ultimatum and threat to the Taliban was rescinded semi-quietly by Powell weeks later.

What followed was an aimless, pointless but also bloody and expensive therapeutic intervention whose net result was the importation of Afghan values (and Afghans) into the West.

I'm not surprised. This is the logical consequence of the policy decisions of September/October 2001 who have never been questioned, let alone corrected.

Freedom cannot endure if Infinite Justice is abandoned.

Nuts!

I know not of sunk cost fallacies or the strategies of the politicians and contractors...you can look to fox news and the histories for that...we know they have sown the wind and I am afraid those that actually carry the fight will reap the whirlwind. I have two friends on the QRF right now...and I am deeply concerned for their safety. Thousands of really bad guys just across the mountain in Bagram are now out and will join the fight. And their blood is up.

This will embolden Jihadist's and the ChiComs and God knows whom else to test our resolve in so many ways. And they are coming here, in America, to cause the trouble, over an open border. If there was ever a time to close the door and focus on the Homeland, it is now. Re tool and re industrialize, produce energy, get past the Covid paranoia, and put people back to work. But, the morons and naive cognoscenti in DC still think we are the same Superpower we were 30 years ago. #47 This is the most poorly done thing I have ever seen done in my lifetime (was not alive during Saigon). I still think that this war has been lost for a long time and that we should get the heck out, but being incapable of pulling people and material out is pathetic and unforgivable.

Despite all that, I have to say that I don't really care that any of the Afghans, even the ones who "cooperated" with us, are going to die. Just can't muster the energy to care. If more Afghans had actually cooperated and not lined their pockets at our expense while labeling themselves as collaborators, then we wouldn't be in this situation.

Credible report that the US is offering vast sums of cash to the Taliban in order to allow evacuations to proceed. Hope US media is on top of this story

#76 Taiwan or Ukraine right now watching all this unfold, would be terrified knowing this is how the United States will react under this administration. Rep. Mike Waltz

#77 Rejoicing in the streets of Karachi and Quetta all night. Police had to come disperse the public and confiscate cameras. Fireworks, dancing...

I'll bet the morale victory is galvanizing the global islamic jihad even as we speak.

#83 Yupp. They've got these little minions typing away in Islamabad and London 24/7. Only the ISI recognized those words for the taliban govt if you remember.

#85 Not to be a gloom inducing duck, but I have a real bad feeling in my gut. I believe we will see a tragedy not unlike 9/11. I know the jihadist mindset. This victory is not complete for the ISI without driving the point home. They always push for that last milestone, shadowing the development of the decade with a horror for the parliaments and UNs to worry about for another.

I hope the 'Intelligence Community' is up-to-snuff.
