#1 When will we hear arrested and imprisoned? Ever?

#2 This seems awfully harsh. I mean, it's not like leaking classified information is a crime or anything. Oh, wait. Never mind.

#5 Let's hope that this is the first of many public manifestations of Porter Goss's cleanup campaign. Maybe with a few more like this the CIA will go from attacking the president to attacking our enemies.

#6 This may be rumor, or just a story floating, but
"Just to update on the CIA arrest...it was the fellow who leaked classified info. to Dana Preistess about the Secret Prisons for the WaPo...he failed a lie detector test...Porter Goss says there are more investigations going on."

#13 Let's see, we have an unnamed, unidentified "Agent" supposedly fired.

Yeah right, unless they provide a live body being hauled away in handcuffs, a trial with real names, real witmesses, real addresses and real charges then this whole "Firing" is simply a phony publicity (Look we're doing something) disinformation operation.

#14 In a rare occurrence, the CIA fired an officer who acknowledged giving classified information to a reporter, NBC News learned Friday.

The officer flunked a polygraph exam before being fired on Thursday and is now under investigation by the Justice Department, NBC has learned.

Intelligence sources tell NBC News the accused officer, Mary McCarthy, worked in the CIA's inspector general's office and had worked for the National Security Council under the Clinton and and George W. Bush administrations.

#15 I think I know this person. If she's the person I think she is, she came to the CIA at the end of the Carter presidency as one of the new "college recruits". Very cool, very reserved, and had little or nothing to do with military people if she had a choice. The fact that most of us knew more about the world around us than she did rankled. I wouldn't be surprised to recognize her when she's shown on television.

#16 This person will suffer very little pain for the outrage committed. For fear of what might be revealed by the defence at trial, charges will not be brought.

The individual in question will go to work for the Washington Post on a special intelligence beat, sort of a pink Bill Gertz. She will then be lionized on the Sunday morning talk shows where she will hold Porter Goss' feet to the fire with leaked information from her sources in the CIA.

#17 WASHINGTON (AP) - In a highly unusual move, the CIA has fired an employee for leaking classified information to the news media, including details about secret CIA prisons in Eastern Europe that resulted in a Pulitzer Prize-winning story, officials said Friday. The Associated Press has learned the officer was a CIA veteran nearing retirement, Mary McCarthy. Reached Friday evening at home, her husband would not confirm her firing.

In McCarthy's final position at the CIA, she was assigned to its Office of Inspector General, looking into allegations the CIA was involved in torture at Iraqi prisons, according to a former colleague who spoke on condition of anonymity because the case is under investigation.

Without identifying McCarthy by name, CIA Director Porter Goss announced the firing in a short message to agency employees circulated Thursday. Such firings are rare. And it is the first time since Goss took over in September 2004, vowing to clamp down on leaks, that he has dismissed an intelligence officer for speaking with reporters.

Citing the Privacy Act, the CIA would not disclose any details about the officer's identity or what she might have told the news media. However, a law enforcement official confirmed there was a criminal leaks investigation under way, but it did not involve the fired CIA officer.

The official said the CIA officer had provided information that contributed to a Washington Post story last year disclosing secret U.S. prisons in Eastern Europe. The law enforcement official spoke only on condition of anonymity, citing the sensitivity of the matter.

#18 I hope the fact that she was fired means he gets no pension.

Well, except the one she'll get from the Saudis and the inevitable speaking tour of campuses and leftist organizations.

#19 She shouldn't need a pension - she won't have to pay rent or buy groceries in prison. One can dream.
