Britain rejects the euro - for now

stirring up the europe dialogue on a daily basis. Have fun with Aris ;-)
Britain has announced that it will not join the euro, the European Union's common currency at this time. The chancellor of the exchequer, Gordon Brown, made the announcement in a speech to the House of Commons in Westminster. Brown said that some of the five economic tests that he set out for joining the euro back in 1997 still had not been met. Brown said the government would examine the case for joining the euro again next year. He said that if the results of the five tests were positive, the government would hold a referendum on joining the common currency.
