#1 Lebanon's government rejected on Friday as unconstitutional a decision by outgoing President Emile Lahoud to hand over the country's security to the army, an official in Prime Minister Fuad Siniora's office told AFP.

"The statement issued by the general directorate of the president of the republic is not valid and is unconstitutional," the official said. "It is as if the statement was never issued," he said.

Just hours before his mandate was due to end at midnight Friday (2200 GMT), Lahoud's office said the outgoing president had handed over Lebanon's security to the army.

#2 Lahoud needs to be sent back to his masters in Syria - in a concrete coffin, from 40,000 feet. If the Lebanese need help, I'm sure the Israelis or the US would volunteer to carry out the mission.

#5 The normal state of Lebanon---and of the rest of the Sikes-Picot follies is uncivil war---these are, essentially, tribal people who never grasped the fundamental idea of Statehood. However, because of the Gulf oil, the region has been a subject of an enormous amount of outside interference.
