125 Taliban Join Peace Process in Balkh: Army Corps

fighters joined the grinding of the peace processor in Charkint district of Balkh province, the 209 Shaheen Army Corps said in a statement on Tuesday.
"Taliban fighters laid down their arms following efforts made by Charkint district governor Salima Mazari and the tribal elders in the area," the statement said.
Charkint is not a secure district.
Local officials have expressed hope that the joining of the Taliban fighters will help to improve the security situation in the fragile district.
125 Taliban fighters, including 15 group leaders, on Monday gave up weapons to Afghan Security Forces in Balkhab district of the province.
Expressing regrets, these fighters recounted what they had done in the past to the people and the national defense and security forces, as they pledged to stop the violence from now on.
