Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, second eldest son of the former ruler, was promising both politically and intellectually. He was captured by militiamen from Zintan in the country’s southwest, and only released in 2017. The International Criminal Court wants him extradited to try him for crimes against humanity, but there is no chance of that. In 2015, the Libyan Dawn militia, the military arm of the Muslim Brotherhood’s parliament in Tripoli, put him on trial, sentenced him to death, but failed to secure him. Western media does not like to admit it, but Seif is indeed popular and just might win the election.
