The ministry also confirmed that Mohammed Bashir Muse, a senior al-Shabaab leader, was among the 30 fighters killed during the operations. It said the joint military operations are underway in areas under Mahaday district in Middle Shabelle region targeting senior al-Shabaab fighters hiding near river banks.
Residents said the armed forces and the local forces have taken full control of Sargo and Qodqod villages in the region of Mudug.
Somali forces have this morning captured two locations in Mudug region, government officials have said.
Interior Minister Ahmed Fiqi said Sunday the forces liberated Ba’daweyn and Qay’ad in Mudug but it was not clear if there was a fight.
