FBI vows to train employees to avoid bias after devastating report
[Wash Times] The FBI will make its employees undergo bias training, Director Christopher A. Wray promised Thursday, after a devastating report found the bureau made bad decisions, has a culture of leaking sensitive information, and may have skewed campaign-season decisions because of bias.
But according the Inspector General and FBI Director "There was no bias related to the Clinton and Trump investigations."
New text messages released by the Justice Department inspector general showing conversations between Deputy Assistant Director Peter Strzok and paramour FBI lawyer Lisa Page suggest a deep anti-Trump sentiment.

In one exchange, Ms. Page wanted reassurance that then-candidate Donald Trump couldn’t win the election. Mr. Strzok replied: "No. No he’s not. We’ll stop it."

The inspector general also said the FBI was rife with people leaking to the press, or holding other cozy relationships that should worry the bureau. Some employees accepted sports tickets, went on golf outings, or had their dinners paid for by reporters.

ICE arrests 162 in Los Angeles-area operation targeting criminal aliens, illegal re-entrants and immigration fugitives
[ICE] LOS ANGELES ‐ A Mexican national convicted of rape and a citizen of El Salvador convicted of Voluntary Manslaughter are among the 162 aliens taken into custody earlier this week during a three-day enforcement operation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) targeting at-large criminal aliens, illegal re-entrants and immigration fugitives, and aliens released back in to the community after detainers filed by ICE with local law enforcement officials were ignored.

This operation targeted public safety threats, such as convicted criminal aliens and gang members, and individuals who have violated the immigration laws of the United States ‐ including those who re-entered the country after being deported and immigration fugitives ordered deported by federal immigration judges.

Of those arrested in Los Angeles and surrounding areas from Sunday through Tuesday, almost 90 percent had criminal convictions. In 53 of the cases, ICE had filed detainers with local law enforcement officials notifying them of the agency’s intent to assume custody of these aliens once they were no longer subject to local detention.

Brain-Eating Amoeba Found In Louisiana Water System (video)
HOUMA, LA (CBS Local) ‐ A potentially deadly brain-eating amoeba has been found again in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. Independent testing returned positive results for Naegleria fowleri, which causes fatal brain swelling and tissue destruction, in the community of Pointe-aux-Chenes, according to WWL-TV, as well as The Courier.

A brain-eating amoeba has been detected in the Louisiana water system. It is the third time since 2015 that the potentially deadly organism has been found in the state
The amoeba can cause brain swelling and seizures according to the CDC. The Terrebonne Consolidated Waterworks District issued the notification Sunday and has temporarily switched to a different disinfectant to kill the organism.

Despite the Louisiana heat, residents are ignoring their swimming pools and nearby bayous. They’re terrified of something they can’t see but that officials warn is present.

"It kinda freaks me out because this is my home, I can’t do what I usually do," said Lindsey Dupre, WWL-TV reports. "I want to know I’m secure rather than freak out over an amoeba."

This marks the third time the amoeba has been detected in the water since 2015. Last June, Terrebonne Parish’s water system tested positive for the amoeba in Isle de Jean Charles, where it had also been found three years ago. It impacts all fresh water sources ranging from drinking water to pool water to water used for showers.

"Normally we see this amoeba in surface water when people go swimming and they get it way up in their sinuses and they’ll get an infection," said Jimmy Guidry, Louisiana Department of Health’s medical director. "They’ll start getting symptoms that are similar to meningitis."

Nigeria to Receive Another U.S.$500 Million Abacha Loot
[All Africa] The Federal Executive Council (FEC) rose from its weekly meeting in the State House Abuja Wednesday with cheery news of the forthcoming repatriation of $500 million loot from United Kingdom, United States and France to Nigeria.

The money was part of the huge sums stolen by the former despotic leader, Gen. Sani Abacha.
I think we've all received multiple emails on the matter...
Making the disclosure while briefing journalists at the end of the meeting, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Malam Abubakar Malami, said the move was the fallout of negotiations between the federal government and the three countries.

According to him, the expected sum is coming barely a few months after the repatriation of $322 million Abacha loot to Nigeria from Switzerland following an agreement signed by Nigeria and Switzerland.

Malami, who said the processes leading to the repatriation and the aftermath were reported to the council Wednesday, also disclosed that the council approved the payment of N500 million as legal fee to lawyers engaged in the litigation between the federal government and MTN over the N1 trillion fine imposed on the latter by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC).

"The council approved the payment of professional fees to lawyers engaged by the federal government relating to the MTN case instituted against the federal government in pursuance of penalty of over N1 trillion imposed by the government on MTN.

"MTN, as you will recall, instituted a case seeking to retrain the federal government from recovering the over N1 trillion imposed on it. The federal government engaged the services of lawyers to put up defence on its behalf. As a result, the case was eventually settled by the parties amicably and arising from that settlement the lawyers were entitled to their fees.

"The federal government has now sanctioned the payment of N500 million for the N330 billion agreed upon for the alleged certain breaches in their operations. This amount is less than one per cent of the fee instead of the internationally recognised fee which is pegged at five per cent.

"Finally was a report on the global forum on assets recovery. You will recall that in December 2017, the federal government participated in global forum on asset recovery in Washington DC and during that forum, Nigeria and Switzerland signed agreement that paved the way for the repatriation of $322 million relating to looted assets and on the account of that the amount was eventually repatriated back to Nigeria.

Congo-Kinshasa: Acquittal of Bemba a Blow to Victims
[All Africa] Following the International Criminal Court (ICC)’s decision to acquit Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo, the former Vice-President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
(DRC), Solomon Sacco, Head of the International Justice team at Amnesia Amnesty International, said:

"The decision to acquit Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo is an important reminder that international justice is only possible if all suspects receive stringently fair trials before an independent and impartial judiciary.

"While the Appeals Chamber has held that Mr Bemba was entitled to an acquittal, the decision will be felt as a huge blow for the many victims of the ’war against women’ waged in the Central African Republic (CAR) through a horrifying campaign of rape and sexual violence.

"The Office of the Prosecutor of the ICC and judicial authorities in CAR must learn from this decision and redouble their efforts to investigate and prosecute alleged perpetrators of crimes under international law, with full respect for their rights to a fair trial.

"5229 survivors of Bemba’s atrocities participated in the ICC proceedings ‐ for these brave individuals, as well as thousands of other victims in CAR, the pursuit of truth, justice and reparations will continue."

Background
Today the International Criminal Court (ICC) Appeal Trial Chambers acquitted Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo, a Congolese national who was tossed in the slammer
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
in Belgium for his involvement in the conflict in Central African Republic.

Bemba was transferred to the ICC in July 2008 and charged with three counts of war crimes - murder, rape, and pillaging - and two counts of crimes against humanity - murder and rape. All the charges are related to the conflict in the Central African Republic (CAR) between 26 October 2002 and 15 March 2003.

On 21 March 2016, the judges of Trial Chamber III unanimously convicted Bemba of all charges. The conviction was based on the principle of command responsibility; the Trial Chamber found that Bemba knew that his militia troops were committing or about to commit crimes, but failed to take reasonable measures to deter or to punish these crimes.

On 21 June 2016, he was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.

Bemba was also tried separately, alongside his lead defence lawyer, Aimé Kilolo-Musamba, and his case manager, Jean-Jacques Mangenda Kabongo, as well as a member of the Congolese Parliament and a defence witness. In October 2016, all five men were found guilty under Article 70 of the Rome Statute for offenses against the administration of justice.

Economy
Donald Trump Approves Tariffs on About $50 Billion of Chinese Goods
[WSJ] President Donald Trump approved tariffs on about $50 billion of Chinese goods, people familiar with the decision said, as the U.S. ratchets up its trade fight with Beijing over China’s alleged pressure on U.S. firms to transfer technology to Chinese partners.

The approval followed a 90-minute meeting on Thursday of senior White House officials, national-security officials and senior representatives of the Treasury, Commerce Department, U.S. Trade Representative’s Office.

It wasn’t clear when the tariffs would go into effect. Beijing has said that it intends to assess tariffs on a corresponding amount of U.S. goods.

USTR expects to announce the goods subject to tariffs on Friday and publish them in the Federal Register next week, the people familiar with the matter said. The affected imports would face 25% tariffs; the products are expected to be similar to those on a preliminary list that USTR released in early April.

The office has held public hearings on the list of 1,300 categories of products to see whether duties on any of the goods it selected would unduly harm U.S. consumers and businesses. USTR is expected to cut some of the products from the list and add others, especially high-tech items, the people familiar with the matter said.

The U.S. decision could become the start of a tit-for-tat series of retaliatory moves. If the U.S. hits China with tariffs, China will immediately retaliate with tariffs, said a Chinese official. "We hate unilateral actions," the official said.

Beijing has already said it had prepared its own $50 billion list of U.S. goods that it would subject to tariffs, especially aircraft and soybeans.

After Beijing made that threat, President Trump upped the ante and said the U.S. would add another $100 billion of goods to the U.S.’s tariff list. The U.S. hasn’t followed up on that threat by enumerating what goods would be included in that batch.

On Thursday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China and the U.S. faced a choice between cooperation and mutual benefit on the one side and confrontation and mutual loss on the other.

"China chooses the first," Mr. Wang told a joint news conference, after talks with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Beijing.

"We hope the U.S. side can also make the same wise choice," Mr. Wang said. "Of course, we have also made preparations to respond to the second kind of choice."

As word filtered through Washington that Mr. Trump was about to make a decision on tariffs, some trade hawks offered qualified support for the president. Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D., Conn.), a longtime opponent of free-trade deals, said "tariffs must be seen as one tool among many our country can use to hold bad actors like China accountable and to bring the Chinese government to the table to secure a more favorable balance of trade."

But Ms. DeLauro added that Mr. Trump must come up with a "comprehensive strategy" for dealing with Beijing.

The conservative Tax Foundation calculated that the tariffs on Chinese imports, coming on top of U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum exports, would lower "long-run" gross domestic product and wages by 0.06%, reduce employment by 45,293 positions and make U.S. taxes less progressive.

'Selfie death' as British woman plummets 30 metres from picturesque sea wall
[Telegraph] A British woman plunged to her death, along with her partner, while taking a selfie on a picturesque wall in Portugal, according to local authorities.

Perth man Michael Kearns, 33, Louise Benson, 37, his British partner, fell 30 metres off a beach wall and were found by shocked locals early on Tuesday morning.

His mother confirmed to local media that she had been notified of his death in the early hours of the morning in Perth.

She said the couple had left Australia in January on a holiday and had attended a friend’s wedding in Portugal in recent weeks.

A mobile phone was found on the top of the wall overlooking the beach in the seaside town of Ericeira, where the bodies of the couple were found on Tuesday morning.

Rui Pereira da Terra, the captain of the maritime authority in Cascais, said the two victims appeared to have lost their balance while taking a photograph overlooking Fishermen’s Beach.

Russia vows consequences after Norway invites more U.S. Marines
[Reuters] Russia vowed on Thursday to retaliate for a plan by Norway to more than double the number of U.S. Marines stationed there.
Ok. Just remember what the Germans nicknamed them.
Oslo announced on Tuesday that it would ask the United States, its NATO ally, to send 700 Marines to train in Norway from 2019, against 330 at present, and said the additional troops would be based closer to the Russian border.

"This makes Norway less predictable and could cause growing tensions, triggering an arms race and destabilizing the situation in northern Europe," the Russian Embassy said in a statement on its Facebook page.
The spokesman added, "Plus they will drink all the vodka and screw all the women."
"We see it as clearly unfriendly, and it will not remain free of consequence."

Oslo has grown increasingly concerned about Russia since Moscow annexed of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, while adding that it does not regard its much larger neighbor as a direct threat.

The U.S. Marines were scheduled to leave at the end of this year after an initial contingent arrived in January 2017 to train for winter conditions. They are the first foreign troops to be stationed in Norway since World War Two.

The initial decision to welcome the Marines had prompted Moscow to say it would worsen bilateral relations and escalate tensions on NATO's northern flank.

On Wednesday, Russia's Northern Fleet launched a large naval exercise in the Arctic Barents Sea. Later this year, Norway will host its biggest NATO maneuver in decades.

Canadians boycott US products, cancel vacations to America
[NY Post] Canadians have taken to practicing pocketbook diplomacy in defense of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is caught in a trade war of words with President Trump, by boycotting American goods and canceling vacations to the United States, according to a report.

Shoppers are shunning Kentucky bourbon, California wine and Florida oranges, and avoiding American companies like Starbucks, Walmart and McDonald’s, Canadian network CTV News reported on Wednesday.

On Twitter, hashtags like #BuyCanadian, #BoycottUSProducts and #BoycottUSA are spreading as outrage over Trump’s trade tariffs grows.

An Ottawa man posted a "Trump-free grocery cart" full of products from Canada or from "countries with strong leadership."

Vacationers said they would be staying up north this summer instead of booking trips to the US.

"F‐k you Trump. We just booked a $3,000 vacation to beautiful British Columbia. Happy anniversary to us. #Canadastrong #BuyCanadian #F***Tariffs," tweeted Supreme Leader Lyna.

SC admits Khadija’s plea for hearing
[DAWN] The Supreme Court on Wednesday admitted for regular hearing an appeal of law student Khadija Siddiqui against the acquittal of Shah Hussain in her stabbing case by the Lahore High Court.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa also issued bailable warrants of Hussain and directed him to furnish surety bonds of Rs100,000 and bound him to appear on each hearing.

Granting leave to appeal, Justice Khosa observed that there was no room for "benefit of doubt" as the occurrence took place in broad daylight. "Had it taken place in dark there might be some benefit of doubt," the judge said.

"Why did Khadija and her younger sister nominate Shah Hussain as accused from whole world?" questioned Justice Khosa. The bench would resume hearing after summer vacation in the courts. Both Khadija and Hussain were present in the court.

Justice Sardar Ahmad Naeem of the Lahore High Court had on June 4 acquitted Shah Hussain giving him benefit of doubt. The judge had observed that the prosecution had failed to establish its case and the courts could not solely rely upon the statement of the injured witness/victim.

Chief Justice Nisar had taken suo motu
...a legal term, from the Latin. Roughly translated it means I saw what you did, you bastard...
notice of the convict’s acquittal after the decision was widely criticized on both mainstream and social media. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
the chief justice discharged the suo motu and fixed the appeal for hearing before Justice Khosa’s bench.

Last year, a judicial magistrate had sentenced Shah Hussain to seven-year imprisonment under section 324 of PPC for trying to kill his class fellow Khadjia. Later in March this year, a sessions court reduced the sentence by two years.

According to the prosecution, Hussain attacked Ms Siddiqui on May 3, 2016 near Shimla Hill where she along with her family driver had gone to pick her younger sister from school. Both sisters were about to get into their car when helmet wearing Hussain attacked Siddiqui with knife and stabbed her 23 times leaving her critically injured. Civil Lines police had started the paperwork but haven't done much else against Hussain on charges of attempted murder.

5 family members butchered by unidentified people in Hazro, Attock
[DAWN] Five members of a family were brutally murdered in their home in Jatial village in the Hazro tehsil of Attock district, DawnNewsTV reported on Thursday.

According to the police, the victims, that include two women and three children, were tied up and violently attacked with a sharp weapon. The bodies of the victims were transferred to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospital for post-mortem examination.

Another family member, Waseem, was also attacked; he, however, survived and was admitted to THQ for treatment. Two other children survived the attack as well.

Police are examining call records of the family's mobile phones and interrogating the residents of the area. The two surviving children, a boy and a girl, are unable to answer questions due to trauma, police said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raja Faizul Haq Naeem told DawnNewsTV that the cause behind the murders is still unclear and investigations are ongoing. Naeem said that the police are waiting to receive a complaint from Waseem after which a first information report will be filed.

Waseem and his family had been living in the area for six years and ran a barber shop, the DSP said.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
She's a Brilliant Chess Grandmaster, and She Stood Up to Iranian Head Scarf Bullies. [VIDEO]
[Victory Girls] One of the most plucky women from this easily-triggered, #MeToo generation is a 29-year-old from India you’ve never heard of. However, you should know how she stood up for her rights in the face of Islamic oppression.

Her name is Soumya Swaminathan, and not only is she courageous, she’s also brilliant. That’s because Soumya is a woman Grandmaster Chess champion, as well as a former World Junior Girls’ champion.

So what makes her brave? It’s because she refused to bow to the Muslim overlords in Iran.

Next month the Asian Team Chess Championship will be held in Hamadan, Iran, and Soumya was set to participate as a member of the Indian team. However, Iran also has that compulsory head scarf rule for women. And Soumya was not about to bow to their religious demands.

#2  Gowdy is not happy - Moreover, the treatment afforded to former Secretary Clinton and other potential subjects and targets was starkly different from the FBI's investigation into Trump campaign officials. Voluntariness and consent in the former were replaced with search warrants, subpoenas, and other compulsory processes in the latter. Many of the investigators and supervisors were the same in both investigations but the investigatory tactics were not.

RE: The (former President) Clinton/Lynch tarmac meeting - The Deputy Chief of Staff told the OIG that they did not attempt to get information from the head of Lynch’s security detail about the conversation that took place on the plane.

And apparently, the OIG didn't think it worthwhile to ask, either. Some investigation! They did discover that no one thought the visit was a good idea, except the President (Clinton).

But no one thought to be a confirming ear in the room - to give credence to the story?

#5  It is interesting to see the reactions to the report in the news. Basically, the same divisions between Dem and Pub are reflected. If you are a Dem, the report states there was little wrong-doing and no political bias. If you are a Pub, the report was somewhat spineless and a whitewash of wrongdoing. One guy on YouTube, a former soldier and LEO, said basically that O and minions and Hillary took a $hit on the Constitution, tore out the pages and wiped their arses with them.

Alas, maybe some day justice will be done.
