FBI Turns Over Documents on Informants, Trump Campaign Surveillance
[Breitbart] The FBI handed over documents to House investigators this week detailing how senior law enforcement officials handled "surveillance records," involving Trump associates, along with documents on the agency’s informant program.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) warned on Sunday that he would take additional measures against Justice Department officials unless they complied with an April subpoena requesting documents regarding the agency’s surveillance of the Trump campaign.

"The deadline is this week," the California Republican told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo. "So if documents begin to be turned over tomorrow and a clear way and path forward for everything else is not clear here in the next couple of days, there’s going to be hell to pay by Wednesday morning."

Investigators on the Hill will have an opportunity to learn more about the extent to which senior FBI and Justice Department officials knew about surveillance of the Trump campaign. On Friday, House Oversight and Judiciary Committees received over than 1400 pages of documents "relating to senior FBI or Justice Department officials’ requests to review or manage surveillance records that either involve or mention the Trump campaign or Trump administration," according to Politico.

Freedom Caucus leader Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) downplayed the transfer, branding reports that bureau and Justice Department officials have increased cooperation with lawmakers as "false."

"New reports of DOJ/FBI compliance with document requests are NOT accurate," Meadows tweeted. "While they have turned over additional documents, the new documents represent a small percentage of what they owe."

"The notion that DOJ/FBI have been forthcoming with Congress is false," he added.

#1  "The notion that DOJ/FBI have been forthcoming with Congress is false," he (Rep. Mark Meadows,R-NC) added.

Rather obvious I'd say. Providing evidence of participation (or knowledge) of a Christopher Steele (MI6) disinformation campaign would probably not be career enhancing.

Back to that bit yesterday about Steele being on the 'sign-in roster' at Foggy Bottom. Anyone from POLMIL or the Bureau at that gathering? Just asking.

Giant 6ft 6in British war hero dubbed ‘Big Bill' who won the Victoria Cross after fending off 6,000 Chinese and North Korean soldiers in Korean War dies at 90
[Mail] Bill Speakman, the first soldier to be awarded a Victoria Cross by the Queen, has died at the age of 90.

The 6ft 6in Korean War hero earned the medal after fighting off Chinese and North Korean soldiers with beer bottles and rocks when he ran out of ammunition.

In 1951, he was attached to the King's Own Scottish Borderers at the height of the Korean War when the regiment's position came under a ferocious Chinese attack.

After he ran out of grenades he began throwing empty beer bottles at the enemy repelled charge after charge, enabling his vastly outnumbered company to withdraw safely.

Vid shows woman trying to resist YouTube stunt that killed boyfriend
[FOXNEWS] A transcript and portions of a video show a Minnesota woman who was urged by her boyfriend to shoot him for a YouTube stunt gone wrong tried to resist.

The Norman County prosecutor on Friday released the transcript and portions of the video Pedro Ruiz III, 22, took with his girlfriend, Monalisa Perez, 20, last year. The final video of the incident was not released because Norman County Attorney James Brue said it was “clearly offensive to common sensibilities.”

According to court documents, the couple had prepared the stunt hoping for it to go viral.

Ivanka Trump Donates $50,000 To Texas Church Helping Illegal Aliens
[Hot Air] Ivanka Trump is credited with a $50,000 donation to a Plano, Texas church that helps those detained at the border. Let’s face it, it’s been a rough week with the press coverage of the situation on the border for illegal aliens and their children. While much of the overwrought reporting has been discredited and Barack Obama’s policies have come under a newly found scrutiny, First Daughter Ivanka quietly donated a chunk of change to help out those trying to come into our country the illegal way. A little good news story is welcomed.

Zimbabwe President Mnangagwa says he was 'inches' from Bulawayo explosion
[BBC] Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa has survived an apparent bomb attack at a rally in the city of Bulawayo. Mr Mnangagwa said an object "exploded a few inches away from me - but it is not my time".
Betcha somebody else's is close though.
Video footage from White City Stadium shows an explosion happening close to Mr Mnangagwa as he was leaving the stage having addressed supporters.

While the president was unhurt, state TV reports that Vice-President Kembo Mohadi has suffered a leg injury. Mr Mnangagwa says he has visited the injured in hospital. He condemned the violence as senseless and pleaded for unity.

Mr Mnangagwa came to power last November, ousting his former mentor Robert Mugabe.

The president was in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second city and an opposition stronghold, to campaign for his Zanu-PF party ahead of nationwide elections taking place on 30 July.

"People started running in all directions and then immediately the president's motorcade left at a very high speed," an AFP correspondent at the scene reported.

The elections are the first in Zimbabwe since Mr Mugabe was ousted after 37 years in power.

UN rights chief calls for probe into ‘abuses by Venezuela forces’
[DAWN] The United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
chief called on Friday for an international investigation of atrocities in Venezuela, blasting the government’s chronic refusal to probe security officers over the alleged killings of civilians.

"The failure to hold security forces accountable for such serious human rights violations suggests that the rule of law is virtually absent in Venezuela," said Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, as his office launched a new report on the crisis-stricken country.

Zeid asked the UN Human Rights Council to set up its highest-level probe ‐ a Commission of Inquiry ‐ for Venezuela and said the International Criminal Court (ICC) might need to get further involved.

The Hague-based ICC in February opened a preliminary investigation into crimes allegedly committed by the security forces during a wave of protests against President Nicolas Maduro.

The UN rights office, which examined Maduro’s crackdown on protesters in a report last year, said its new findings related mostly to alleged abuses committed during purported anti-crime operations.

UN Sherlocks have been denied access to Venezuela. Some of the findings were based on remote monitoring as well as interviews with victims, witnesses, civil society groups and others.

Other evidence includes material compiled by former attorney general Luisa Ortega Diaz, who was sacked by Maduro last August and is living in exile.

The report highlights alleged extrajudicial killings by officers involved in the Operations for the Liberation of the People. It said those officers, supposedly tasked with fighting crime, might have been responsible for more than 500 killings between July 2015 and March 2017, largely carried out in poor neighbourhoods.

Rights office spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani told news hounds in Geneva that the victims were young men who "tended to fit the profile of suspected criminals", and were "incarcerated
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
and killed without judicial warrants".

The operations were designed to show Maduro was tough on crime, Shamdasani said.

The report also highlighted the "pervasive" impunity for Maduro and for officers blamed for killing at least 46 people during protests last year.

According to the UN, Ortega Diaz had issued dozens of warrants against officers linked to the deaths, but only one trial has started. "This impunity must end," Zeid said in a statement.

China Just Handed the World a 111-Million-Ton Trash Problem (opens to video)
[Bloomberg] Few people consider used plastic to be a valuable global commodity. Yet China has imported 106 million tons of old bags, bottles, wrappers and containers worth $57.6 billion since 1992, the first year it disclosed data. So when the country announced last year that it finally had enough of everybody else's junk, governments the world over knew they had a problem. They just didn’t know exactly how large it was.

Now they know. By 2030, an estimated 111 million metric tons of used plastic will need to be buried or recycled somewhere else‐or not manufactured at all. That's the conclusion of a new analysis of UN global trade data by University of Georgia researchers.

Everyone's bottles, bags and food packages add up. Factories have churned out a cumulative 8.3 billion metric tons of new plastic as of 2017, the same Georgia team reported last year. Even 1 million metric tons, the scale that this material trafficks in every year, is hard to visualize in the abstract. It's 621,000 Tesla Model 3s. It's 39 million bushels of corn kernels. The world’s 700 million iPhones make up roughly a tenth of a million metric tons.

CSX, Or The Occasion You Just Missed
[Seeking Alpha] 2017 has been quite a "ride" for this railroads operator. After announcing the coming of Hunter Harrington as its new CEO at the beginning of the year, CSX (CSX) saw its new CEO passing away in December. While there was a clear "HH" effect on the stock when he hopped on board, shares haven’t been affected by his unexpected departure.

In fact, I don’t think it’s only Mr. Harrington’s work, but CSX did an amazing job on improving their margins by streamlining their business (less hump yards, less operating regions and 1 consolidated dispatching office). CSX came from "one of the worst" to "one of the best" railroads in regard to their operating ratio. But with such a strong stock price appreciation, is there anything left for future investors? I don’t think so over short-term, but CSX is certainly a keeper.

Understanding the Business

CSX is a railroad company operating over 21,000 miles of railways, with access to 70 ports and nationwide transloading and distribution services. This may seem big, but Union Pacific (UNP) shows 51,683 miles in comparison. CSX has roughly half UNP market capitalization ($56B vs $110B) too.

CSX was one of the railroad owner-operators most affected by the latest down cycle in commodities due to its strong presence in the coal transportation business. As of May 30 th, 2018, CSX business came from chemicals (20%), coal (19%), Intermodal (17%), automotive (11%), Agriculture & Food (11%), forest products (7%), metals & equipment (6%), minerals (5%) and fertilizers (4%).

Boeing Grabs Another Big Widebody Order
[Motley Fool] Boeing has received more orders for widebody planes year to date than it did in all of 2016. A recent 24-aircraft deal with FedEx added to Boeing's order momentum.

In 2017, Boeing (NYSE:BA) saw a somewhat surprising uptick in order activity after entering the year with modest expectations. The Boeing sales team is off to a great start in 2018, as well. By the end of May, the company had received 306 net orders for commercial jets compared to 205 during the same period in 2017.

Recently, Boeing has been particularly successful in selling widebodies -- the larger dual-aisle aircraft that typically serve longer international routes. This is a market segment that Boeing had expected to remain weak until around 2020.

Five charity workers gang-raped in India
[DAWN] CHENNAI: Five Indian anti-trafficking campaigners were gang-raped at gunpoint during an awareness programme they were organising in a village, police said on Friday.

Unidentified men picked up nine activists during a street play performance in Kochang village in Jharkhand state and drove them into a dense forest, where the men were beaten up and the women raped, police officer Ashwini Kumar Sinha said.

"It is a very rare case, where people working on anti-trafficking have been targeted," Sinha told this news agency in a phone interview from Khunti district of Jharkhand.

"We are not ruling out the possibility of the involvement of trafficking gangs and are investigating all aspects." The street play had been organised by charity Asha Kiran, which runs a shelter home for the rehabilitation of rescued girls in Khunti district of Jharkhand, which has been identified as a trafficking hotspot.

There are around 200 rescued girls in Asha Kiran’s shelter. Most of were trafficked into domestic servitude to cities where a growing middle class is looking for cheap live-in labour.

Jharkhand is among the top five states in India that reports increasing cases of human trafficking, with traffickers targetting poor villages, convincing vulnerable families to send their daughters away for employment, campaigners said.

He claims that the land had previously been disputed, but a Supreme Court bench comprising the chief justice, Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Umar Atta Bandial recently decided in his favour in a case that had went on for around 88 years.

US must find alternatives to detaining children and migrants, says UN
[DAWN] The United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
called on the Trump administration on Friday to overhaul its migration policies and find alternatives to detention, saying that migrant children and their parents should not be treated like criminals.

The United States has faced fierce criticism for separating more than 2,300 children from their families in order to prosecute their parents for crossing the border from Mexico illegally.

President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
backed down on Wednesday, signing an executive order to keep families together in detention during immigration proceedings.

"While we acknowledge the US government’s decision not to continue separating children from their parents, we understand that the practice now will be to detain the children with their parents," UN human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani told a Geneva briefing.

"We have said time and again the children should never be detained in relation to their or their parents’ migration status. It is never in the best interests of the child for them to be detained," she added.

Video footage of children sitting in cages and an audiotape of wailing children sparked worldwide anger.

Trump suggested on Friday that some of the wrenching tales that have emerged from the border were fabricated by Democrats before congressional elections in November. "We cannot allow our Country to be overrun by illegal immigrants colonists as the Democrats tell their phony stories of sadness and grief, hoping it will help them in the elections," he tweeted.

The US military has been asked to get ready to house up to 20,000 immigrant children, US officials said on Thursday.

Shamdasani, asked about the prospect of using military bases, replied: "Irregular migration should not be a criminal offence, these people should not be treated as criminals."

47 Groups Weighing SPLC Lawsuit Warn 'Editors, CEOs': 'You Are Complicit' in Hate Group 'Defamation'

[PJMedia] On Wednesday, no fewer than 47 nonprofit leaders maligned by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) ‐ many if not most of whom are considering a lawsuit against the organization ‐ warned a vast array of executives and leaders that if they parrot the SPLC's damaging "hate group" labels, they would be "complicit" in "defamation."

"Editors, CEOs, shareholders and consumers alike are on notice: anyone relying upon and repeating its misrepresentations is complicit in the SPLC's harmful defamation of large numbers of American citizens who, like the undersigned, have been vilified simply for working to protect our country and freedoms," the signatories wrote.

The letter followed news ‐ broken at PJ Media ‐ that no fewer than 60 organizations are considering suing the SPLC following a groundbreaking settlement in which the organization formally apologized to a Muslim reformer, Maajid Nawaz, for branding him an "anti-Muslim extremist."

#1  ...As the Ol' Perfessor would say, 'Heh'.

More seriously, let me cite an example that the SPLC would have profited to remember - the Klan. When the FBI was finally turned loose on them, a lot of the fun went out of that sort of thing - after all, being a bully loses a lot of its appeal when you know that people will hit back twice as viciously. But the real death of the Klan didn't happen until the lawsuits started. Prison was one thing, that could be survived. But to come out and have NOTHING...to have and be less than the people you were trying to intimidate and oppress? That ended the Klan as a coherent organization. (Yes, you still see the occasional moron in hood and robe, and the media plays it up like the coming of the Apocalypse, but a state LE officer told me some years back that you could probably put every true active Klansman in the country in your local multiplex and still have seats left over.)

The SPLC has a great deal to answer for, and the gates are now open to a great many questions. And those questions will cost them a great deal of money.

#2  Deep pockets(tm)

If as reported major search engine and social media organizations have relied upon SPLC to 'combat' hate speech and organizations, I suspect a very long litigation is in their future.

#4  The SPLC ends up looking very much like that which they condemn.
