For me, this guy, along with Neil Peart (the drummer for Rush, the greatest band ever) represent two musical rock & roll giants that have fallen this year. Allow me some personal ramblings in a moment...
[Chicago Sun Times] - Eddie Van Halen, the guitar virtuoso whose blinding speed, control and innovation propelled his band Van Halen into one of hard rock’s biggest groups, fueled the unmistakable fiery solo in Michael Jackson’s hit "Beat It" and became elevated to the status of rock god, has died. He was 65.
His son, Wolfgang, confirmed the news via Twitter that the rocker died Tuesday due to cancer.
With his distinct solos, Eddie Van Halen fueled the ultimate California party band and helped knock disco off the charts starting in the late 1970s with his band’s self-titled debut album and then with the blockbuster record "1984," which contains the classics "Jump," "Panama" and "Hot for Teacher." Killing disco may have been his greatest contribution to mankind.
Van Halen is among the top 20 best-selling artists of all time, and the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Rolling Stone magazine put Eddie Van Halen at No. 8 in its list of the 100 greatest guitarists. OK, two Raj stories here.
My first one is this one. My first concert ever was at the old Boston Garden back in 1981, during the Fair Warning tour (fourth album). My ears rang for three days afterwards, and I loved every minute of it. I was a young punk from Manchester, NH with my buddies J.P., Ernie and Mattu, who was driving this slant six Chevy Nova thing. We get out of the show and we're on Causeway Street. I'm riding shotgun (playing navigator) and I told him to pull a U-Turn, go east for a few blocks and then he'd be on that massive ramp up I-93 on the old Upper Deck (it's at least a 20 degree incline) and we'd be home free. But no - Mattu's gotta take this convoluted route that left us in Leominster (he grabbed U.S. Route 20 from Kenmore Square and off we went) and it took us 3 1/2 hours to get back to Manch Vegas. What a putz!
Second one - I was driving from Sarasota, FL back to Boston back in 1994 and I'm approaching DC on I-95 North. At some point late night (I was in VA at the time), I picked up a live Van Halen show that lasted for about three hours. I'm driving a POS Olds Cutlass with no A/C (big mistake when I was in FL) and I had a solid FM signal the whole time. I think I had a Kenwood or Blaupunkt car radio receiver, which made perfect sense for me at the time - shit car, great radio. The last four hours of that drive was pure adrenaline and I covered 1,013 miles by the time I got north of Baltimore at 3 AM.

Before a complete reinstall, Raj, try just deleting the mouse driver. I'm not trying to imply you are a dummy if you already tried that. Also, if it's a Bluetooth mouse make sure that driver is up to date also. Yes, it should all happen automatically, no argument there...

M. Murcek - it's my normal procedure to flatten the machine every year; too much bullshit gets larded up over time, so I leave and nuke it from orbit just to be sure, on an annual basis.

The combo of heavy smoking and alcoholism is never a good one in the long term, especially if it continues after your initial diagnosis with throat cancer as was alleged to happen. But he was the best damn guitarist of his time, and one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time.
I'm getting pretty tired of 2020 being a shit year.

Raj, you may be able to hit TAB until the submit button highlights then hit enter?
And I moved into the area about ten years ago. I wondered what the heck a package store was. Maybe competition for the UPS Store? One day I was walking by one and figured I would take the opportunity to figure it out. Didn't take long to figure out it was probably a result of the attitude that developed the blue laws long ago.
Trump's former personal attorney Michael Cohen says he is working to secure compassionate release for a whistleblower imprisoned by the White House Scurrilous and absurd. She was tried fairly by the justice system, convicted, and is now serving her sentence.
Reality Winner, 28, was sentenced to five years in prison in 2018 for leaking documents detailing the Russian hack on the US election to the media
The former NSA contractor has been repeatedly denied compassionate release despite a coronavirus outbreak in the prison She already had it in July so, like President Trump, there is no reason she cannot stay there now.
Cohen said he is meeting with a lawyer this week to take a 'deep dive' on Winner's case
He claimed it was part of making amends for his previous life as Trump's attorney
The same year Winner was charged for the Russian leak, Cohen pleaded guilty to lying about Trump's business dealings in Russia

New York State daily COVID death rate has been steady at about 10 since mid-summer, down from a peak of 1000 in April. Daily cases have inched up from about 800 over the summer to about 1300 (peaked in April at about 10,000.) NY still only shows one significant 'wave' of infection, back in the spring; other states show 2 (e.g. Louisiana) or even 3 now (e.g. Colorado), though death rates have not been nearly has high in the later waves.

FWIW - I've been taking the MBTA (Boston subway system) into South Station for the past two weeks (just on Fridays; it's the only day I go into this place). The trains are nowhere near full during rush hour times and even then I can always find a seat. Before this crap hit it would be next to impossible to find an open seat regardless of when I went in.
Important message from the National Regional State of #Tigray. Political crisis escalates in #Ethiopia. #Tigray regional gov’t no longer recognizes @AbiyAhmedAli’s government. Abiy Ahmed no longer in control over his own country. It is becoming clear that his days are numbered. pic.twitter.com/mHLdG7UVAd
[MAIL] A female farmer has been sexually assaulted and strangled to death while another rural worker has been tortured and murdered in the latest attacks on South Africa's white farmers.
Divorcee Chantel Kershaw, 44, was ambushed by two armed black men while working her land in Delmas east of Johannesburg on Wednesday.
Kershaw's underwear was ripped off and stuffed into her mouth and she was strangled to death inside her garage.
In a separate incident, 21-year-old farm manager Brendin Horner was brutally tortured on Friday and discovered dead the next day, covered in blood and tied to a post in Paul Roux, Free State province.
[NYP] WASHINGTON — Shuttered by COVID-19 infections, the Republican-led Senate is refusing to delay confirmation of President Donald Trump’s pick for the Supreme Court. They are even willing to make special arrangements so sick senators can vote for Judge Amy Coney Barrett, and Democrats appear powerless to stop them.
Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., said Monday that he’ll go to the Capitol "in a moon suit" to vote if he’s still testing positive for the coronavirus, which has killed more than 209,000 Americans and infected millions.
The push to put conservative Judge Amy Coney Barrett on the high court before Nov. 3 is like nothing seen in U.S. history so close to a presidential election. Trump’s nomination of Barrett in a Rose Garden ceremony apparently became ground zero for the infections now gripping the president, his White House and its Senate allies. Three GOP senators, including Johnson, have now tested positive for the virus and several more are quarantined at home — denying Republicans a functioning majority.

Just wanted to note how the writer slipped in the
209,000 misleading death number.
The CDC has already admitted the number is NOT accurate. It is based on "CLAIMED" numbers by Hospitals, nursing homes, hospices and etc. that receive additional funds for reporting and handling C-19 cases.
EG: a 89 y/o that had c-19 and recovered and died 2 weeks later of a heart attack. Or like the 20 something y/o Motorcycle rider that had it and was killed in an MC vs. Car collision.
The Overall CDC Mortality Rate using this mornings overall figures of: 7,396,730 Infected and 209,199 that Died. Means 2.82~% died IF INFECTED since Jan. 17th.
Using this mornings CDC 's shown data of:
36,778 New Cases out of 342,000,000 US Population.
378 New Deaths. Means the Mortality rate has dropped to less than 1/2 of the initial rates and is now 1.027~% IF INFECTED out 342,000,000
I guess exposing the 5 Liberal-Democrat Governors that were cramming C-19 infected people in Nursing homes and etc... with the already sick and aged helped reduce the Mortality Rate?
[TOWNHALL] It was another one of those Jussie Smollett ...Cable TV actor whose primary talents seemed to be being black and being homosexual. In a bid for national attention, he paid a pair of Nigerian brothers to rough him up a little so he could claim that two large, white, MAGA hat-wearing men had shouted This is MAGA country! while thumping him at 2:30am on a bitter cold night in Chicago and throwing bleach on him, presumably to lighten him up. The story quickly unraveled, and he became a laughingstock and the poster boy for pretend victimization and attention whoredom... -like "hate crimes" that sounded perfectly made up to any well-adjusted person, which probably explains why liberals fell for it, hook, line, and sinker. A biracial woman in Madison, Wisconsin, told coppers back in June that she was attacked by four racist white men who looked like frat boys. The woman, Althea Bernstein, 18, claimed the four men pulled alongside her vehicle at a stoplight, called her a racial epithet, sprayed lighter fluid through her open window, and then lit the teenager on fire. It happened to be the same night that Black Lives Matter vandals tossed a molotov cocktail through a window at a nearby government building.
While police have ruled out any connection between Bernstein and the arson, police are now closing their exhaustive investigation into Bernstein's alleged hate crime after finding zero evidence to corroborate her story. In a statement, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Wisconsin, who also investigated Bernstein's claims alongside the FBI, said that "after reviewing all available evidence, authorities could not establish that the attack, as alleged by the complainant, had occurred."
Investigators say footage from that night shows Bernstein had her window rolled up as she drove in a different lane than the one she had told Sherlocks she was driving in, and Bernstein's vehicle didn't stop at any stoplights where the attack was alleged to have occurred. Bernstein also turned over GPS evidence on her phone, and Sherlocks established that Bernstein had texted a friend about the incident while Bernstein was still at her house.
Of course, we didn't need an expensive investigation into Bernstein's claims because Bernstein's claims were manifestly false. As Instapundit points out, Bernstein looks like Rachel Dolezal, not to say Bernstein isn't biracial but she is certainly not a person who would be targeted by a group of racist white men out to get a black person. But liberals are either gullible or simply can't pass up an opportunity to stoke racial divisions in the country no matter how preposterous the claims.
NFL Players Todd Gurley of the Atlanta Falcons and Oren Burks of the Green Bay Packers put Bernstein's name on their helmets as part of the NFL's Inspire Change program. Maybe Bernstein's fake hate crime will inspire change and the NFL will stop believing all the lies told to them by Black Lives Matter Marxists.
