A large crowd has protested in Armenia’s capital Yerevan against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

A large crowd protested in Armenia’s capital Yerevan on Sunday against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, led by a Christian holy man who announced the start of four days of rallies to seek to drive him from office.

Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan is seeking to tap into popular anger over military defeats and territorial concessions to Azerbaijan, but Pashinyan has so far withstood the pressure.

"For four days, we will stay in the streets and squares, and with our determination and will, we will achieve victory," said Galstanyan, who called on parliamentary factions to hold a special session on Tuesday to remove the government from power.

A live video stream on YouTube showed thousands of people rallying in the centre of Yerevan and then marching peacefully through the streets with music blaring. There were no reports of arrests or festivities.

After weeks of protests against Pashinyan appeared to be losing momentum, Galstanyan is attempting to bring matters to a head with demands for a change of power within days. He is calling for the appointment of a transitional government to "implement reconciliation", manage foreign relations and prepare for snap elections.

But Richard Giragosian, director of the Regional Studies Center in Yerevan, said the move smacked of desperation in the face of waning protest numbers. The archbishop’s campaign was hampered by a lack of political experience and the absence of a clear strategy or alternative vision, he said.

The demonstrations, as yet "do not pose any real challenge to the government. The only danger of escalation is from a possible over-reaction by the security forces," Giragosian told Rooters.

Pashinyan is a former journalist who came to power after a wave of street protests in 2018. He came under heavy domestic pressure in 2020 after major losses to Azerbaijan in the second war the two countries had fought in three decades.

Last year Azerbaijan followed up with a lightning offensive to take back its Karabakh region, prompting an exodus of 100,000 ethnic Armenians who had enjoyed de facto independence there for three decades.

Pashinyan has criticised Russia for not intervening with its peacekeeping force in the region to stop Azerbaijani forces from retaking Karabakh.

He has publicly questioned Armenia’s traditional alliance with Moscow and started to forge closer ties with the West. A senior US official, Assistant Secretary of State James O’Brien, was due in Yerevan on Monday for talks on bilateral ties and moves towards a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.

The trigger for the latest demonstrations against Pashinyan was his decision to hand back four deserted border villages to Azerbaijan in May. Opponents called it a betrayal, but Pashinyan defended their return as a necessary step to avoid a further war that would end badly for Armenia.

Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title.

[Korrespondent] 22:13 Ukraine has already taken advantage of the US permission to carry out strikes on Russian territory, US Presidential Adviser Jay Sullivan said: “I’ll just say that from the president’s point of view it was common sense... When the Russians moved from one side of the border directly to the other side of the border “It just didn’t make sense to not allow the Ukrainians to fire across that border, to hit the Russian guns and gun emplacements that were firing at the Ukrainians.”

21:37 Ukraine will begin testing its adjustable aerial bombs in a few weeks, said the head of the air command Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergei Golubtsov. According to him, a wing and a control module have been developed. Navigation will be carried out using GPS. Golubtsov added that Ukraine currently uses about 100-300 precision-guided bombs per month, while Russia uses about 3,000. Ukraine is still using foreign-made bombs. In addition, according to Golubtsov, Ukraine was able to integrate French AASM 250 aerial bombs onto Su-25 attack aircraft.

21:16 On the evening of June 8, Ukrainian forces launched a “coordinated attack” on a Russian landing ship that had recently moved to the Sea of Azov from the Black Sea, Sky News writes, citing a Ukrainian military source. The ship was the fifth of seven Ropukha-class landing ships that were sunk or disabled as a result of Ukrainian attacks, the source said. According to him, the Russian military uses such ships to transport ammunition and cargo to occupied Mariupol for further transit to the front line.

20:41 Zelensky said in an evening video message that in the Pokrovsky direction “almost every day it is invariably the hardest along the front, the greatest pressure from the occupier, the greatest number of battles.” The president also said that now among the main tasks is “to get more support for Ukraine specifically from the point of view of the sustainability of our society: this applies to energy, and recovery after impacts, and all other foundations of a normal life.”

“We are preparing new agreements for Ukraine with European partners, in particular with Germany, regarding additional steps of support. Also these days, we are working in detail on the preparation of a bilateral security agreement between our state and the United States. We are doing everything to make America’s leadership felt,” the head of state added.

19:03 On Monday, June 10, hourly power outage schedules will be applied throughout Ukraine from 16:00 to 22:00, Ukrenergo reported.

18:59 Biden and Macron supported the transfer of proceeds from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, the White House said: “The Presidents are committed to supporting efforts within the EU and G7 aimed at returning emergency proceeds from frozen Russian sovereign assets to Ukraine, in accordance with international law and ours.” relevant legal systems and decision-making processes."

18:54 There could be two affected Su-57s in Akhtubinsk, said GUR representative Andrey Yusov: “There is data that continues to be clarified. There is preliminary information that there could be two affected Su-57 aircraft. There is also information about irretrievable losses and wounded among personnel of the occupiers." Some Russian public pages, meanwhile, write that the attack on Akhtubinsk was carried out by “invisible drones that no air defense system in the world can shoot down,” and as a result of the attack, the Su-57 and two air defense systems - Pantsir-S1 and S-300 - were allegedly damaged.

18:30 Russia is attracting African students to the offensive in the Kharkov direction, writes Bloomberg. In particular, Russian officials have increasingly threatened not to renew the visas of African students and young workers unless they agree to join the army. Some Africans who are in Russia on work visas are detained and forced to choose between deportation and participation in hostilities.
But if you’re deported, yiu get sent home for free, right? What’s the downside?
16:26 In the Belgorod region, an ammunition warehouse in the Rakityansky district was attacked. According to local residents, explosions were heard, and then a fire started. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said that a “non-residential building” was on fire and there were no casualties.

12:19 Scholz rejected Macron’s idea to send military instructors to Ukraine: “We will continue to prevent escalation. There will be no soldiers in Ukraine either from our countries or from NATO as a whole... It is important to support Ukraine, but not to allow an escalation of the war between Russia and NATO ".

11:47 Russian aviation telegram channels confirm a strike on the Su-57 in Akhtubinsk, Astrakhan region. According to them, three drones flew to the airfield; the fighter received shrapnel damage. It is currently being determined whether it can be restored.

10:52 The use of hourly power outage schedules is canceled today, Ukrenergo reported. The reason is a decrease in consumption on weekends and the return to operation of the nuclear power plant unit.

09:24 On Saturday, June 8, on the territory of the Akhtubinsk airfield in the Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation, located 589 km from the combat line, a Su-57 multirole fighter was hit, the Main Intelligence Directorate reports with reference to satellite images of the aircraft parking. They show that on June 7, the Su-57 was standing intact, and already on the 8th, explosion craters and characteristic stains from a fire that arose as a result of fire damage appeared near it. The Su-57 is the most modern Russian fighter, capable of using Kh-59 and Kh-69 missiles for strikes. The defeat of the Su-57 is the first such case in history, intelligence officials noted.

09:19 At night, the Russians fired at the village. Borovaya, Izyum district, Kharkov region, one person was injured, said Oleg Sinegubov, head of the OVA. Another person was injured the night before as a result of enemy shelling. Dvorichanskoye, Kupyansky district. In addition, on June 8, the Russians struck an educational institution in the village. 07:32 The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports, citing geolocation footage, that the Russian army has likely captured the village of Glubokoe in the Kharkov direction, north of Liptsy. At the same time, analysts believe that the existing Russian reserves of 60 thousand people will not be enough to support simultaneous large-scale offensive efforts in several directions. The Russian military command will likely be forced to choose one main action during the expected summer offensive, ISW experts predict.

02:29 Orban said that Western leaders are trying to defeat Russia for the sake of money and power: “Western leaders who have entered the warpath want to defeat Russia militarily. Their brilliant plan is absolutely simple, because we are talking about money that gives influence and power.” The Hungarian Prime Minister also believes that Europeans want to return to the 90s.

Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Evtukhov: The Navy will be replenished with 50 new ships in 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] By the end of 2024, 50 new ships will join the Russian Navy, said Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Viktor Evtukhov. His words are quoted by the Zvezdanews Telegram channel.

According to him, the list will include boats, as well as small missile ships and support vessels. He also noted that the ministry will pay special attention to frigates and corvettes capable of operating in the far sea zone.

Evtukhov recalled that last year the Russian Navy included 32 ships. This year this figure will be exceeded by 18 units.

As Regnum reported, at the beginning of January the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the Russian Navy in 2024 will be replenished with the small missile ship “Burya” and the submarine “Kronstadt”. It was noted that this year the Russian Navy will continue the planned increase in its strength.

It was specified that the Baltic, Pacific and Black Sea fleets will be strengthened by several small missile and patrol ships, as well as sea minesweepers.

On December 25, 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that five frigates, eight corvettes, 13 small missile ships and more than 50 other ships of various classes are currently in various stages of readiness at Russian shipyards. At the flag-raising ceremony on the frigate Admiral Golovko, the small missile ship Naro-Fominsk and the minesweeper Lev Chernavin, which are entering service with the Navy, the president said that Russian shipbuilding has entered a new important stage - serial production of warships of various classes.

In Ukraine, the body of a draft dodger was found in the mountains on the border with Romania
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] In the Ukrainian Carpathians, not far from the border with Romania, the body of a man who evaded mobilization into the Ukrainian Armed Forces was found, the country’s State Border Service reported on its Telegram channel.

“The body of a man without signs of life was found in the mountains near the border. A local resident reported the terrible discovery on the slope of Mount Pop-Ivan to the Marmaros border patrol this morning,” the report says.

It is noted that the police and employees of the State Emergency Situations Service were called to the place where the man’s body was found.

As Regnum reported, a new law on mobilization has been in force in Ukraine since May 18. It involves, in particular, the abolition of the norm on limited fitness, the reduction of the conscription age from 27 to 25 years and numerous restrictions on the rights of those who evade conscription or do not provide up-to-date information to military registration and enlistment offices.

Ukrainian media reported that on the day the law came into force, the streets of cities in the territory controlled by the Kiev regime were empty. There are also reports of numerous attempts by men of military age to illegally leave the territory of Ukraine. Many of these attempts end in tragedy.

On June 5, it was reported that in Ukraine, among the draft dodgers trying to leave the country illegally, the first people died as a result of mining by Ukrainian border guards on the banks of the Tisza River.

Ukraine Says it Has Destroyed an Advanced Russian Stealth Fighter
[Breitbart] Ukraine on Sunday said its forces hit an ultra-modern Russian warplane stationed on an air base nearly 600 kilometers (370 miles) from the front lines, after its Western allies allowed Kyiv to use their weapons for limited strikes inside Russia.

Kyiv´s main military intelligence service shared satellite photos it said showed the aftermath of the attack. If confirmed, it would mark Ukraine’s first known successful strike on a Su-57 fighter plane, a twin-engine stealth fighter lauded as Moscow’s most advanced military aircraft.

In one photo, black soot marks and small craters can be seen dotting a concrete strip around the parked aircraft. According to the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine´s Ministry of Defense, the strike took place on Saturday at the Akhtubinsk base in southern Russia, some 589 kilometers (366 miles) from the front line.
It wasn´t immediately clear what weapons were used, but the airfield´s distance from Ukraine suggests that it was likely hit by drones.

The strike comes after the United States and Germany recently authorized Ukraine to hit some targets on Russian soil with the long-range weapons they are supplying to Kyiv. Ukraine has already used U.S. weapons to strike inside Russia under newly approved guidance from President Joe Biden that allows American arms to be used for the limited purpose of defending Kharkiv, Ukraine´s second-largest city.

The Ukrainian agency said that the plane, which is capable of carrying stealth missiles across hundreds of kilometers (miles), was among "a countable few" of its type in Moscow’s arsenal. According to reports by Russian agencies, Moscow’s armed forces obtained "more than 10" new Su-57s last year, while 76 are set to be produced by 2028.

Moscow did not immediately comment on the reports. Russia’s Defense Ministry on Saturday claimed its forces downed three Ukrainian drones in the Astrakhan region, home to the Akhtubinsk airstrip.

Why is Russia accusing its own scientists of treason?
[BBC] Russian President Vladimir Putin frequently boasts that his country is leading the world in developing hypersonic weapons, which travel at more than five times the speed of sound.

But a string of Russian physicists working on the science underlying them have been charged with treason and imprisoned in recent years, in what rights groups see as an overzealous crackdown.

Most of those arrested are elderly, and three are now dead. One was taken from his hospital bed in the late stages of cancer and died soon afterwards.

Another is Vladislav Galkin, a 68-year-old academic, whose home in Tomsk in southern Russia was raided in April 2023.

Armed men in black masks arrived at 04:00, digging through cupboards and seizing papers with scientific formulae on them, a relative says.

Mr Galkin’s wife, Tatyana, says she has told their grandchildren – who liked to play chess with him – that he’s on a business trip. She says Russia’s security service, the FSB, has forbidden her from speaking about his case.

Since 2015, 12 physicists have been arrested who are all associated in some way with hypersonic technology or with institutions that work on it.

They are all charged with high treason, which can include passing state secrets to foreign countries.

Russian treason trials are held behind closed doors, so it’s not clear exactly what they are accused of.

The Kremlin has said only that “the accusations are serious” and it can’t comment further because special services are involved.

But colleagues and defence lawyers say the scientists weren’t involved in weapons development and that some of the cases are based on them openly collaborating with foreign researchers.

And critics suggest the FSB wants to create the impression foreign spies are chasing weapons secrets.

Hypersonic refers to missiles that can travel at extremely high speeds and also change direction during flight, evading air defences.

Russia says it has used two types in its war on Ukraine – the Kinzhal, launched from an aircraft, and the Zircon cruise missile.

However, Kyiv says its forces have shot down some Kinzhal missiles, raising questions about their capabilities.

As the technology has been developed and deployed, the arrests have continued.

Shortly after Mr Galkin's arrest in April 2023, he was remanded in court on the same day as another scientist, Valery Zvegintsev, with whom he had co-authored several papers.

The state-owned news agency Tass has cited a source saying Mr Zvegintsev's arrest may have been prompted by an article published in an Iranian journal in 2021.

Russian armoured vehicle blown up when commander forgets to shut hatch
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A Russian armoured vehicle covered in protective plating was blown up by a drone after the commander forgot to close the hatch.

The embarrassing fail was caught on camera and shared by Ukraine's Ministry of Defence, as footage showed the metal 'turtle tank' rolling along a muddy battlefield in Ukraine before it was destroyed.

The Russian combat vehicle, clad in protective sheet metal in an attempt to stop Ukrainian drones from causing damage to the tank, could be seen shakily trucking along the path unaware of the destruction that would hit just moments later.

As the rusty-looking vehicle zoomed through the area, the clip cuts to the drone's perspective and shows the device penetrating the tank after getting past the outer sheet metal shell and slipping into the open hatch.

The 'iron shed' then bursts into flames, sending an orange blaze into the sky in a humiliating blunder from the Russian commander.
