Columbia hires, and claims to fire, professor who voiced support for Hamas post-Oct. 7
[IsraelTimes] University’s president said Mohamed Abdou had been terminated but he claims his contract ends May 30, after he posted on October 11 that he was ’with the resistance’

Amid fierce criticism of Columbia University’s management of weeks of anti-Israel demonstrations, the prestigious New York institution has come under fire for hiring a Modern Arab Studies professor who voiced support for Hamas
...not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
and other terror groups.

Hired as the Arcapita visiting professor in Modern Arab Studies on January 16, Mohammed Abdou had lauded the Paleostinian terror group’s October 7 massacre in southern Israel days after the onslaught.

In an October 11 post on Facebook, Abdou wrote, "I’m with the muqawamah (the resistance) be it Hamas and Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah
...

but up to a point — given ultimate differences over our ethical political commitments; that’s the difference between a strategy and tactic too," according to the UK’s Daily Mail.

In a podcast interview on January 5, a week before he began his temporary role at Columbia, Abdou commented as part of a discussion about homophobia in Islam that he was "with Hamas" and supports "the resistance, absolutely."

When questioned at a Congressional hearing on antisemitism in mid-April about hiring the professor, Columbia University president Nemat (Minouche) Shafik said that Abdou had been terminated.

"He will never work at Columbia again," she stated in response to a question from Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik.

Four other professors were also mentioned during the nearly four-hour-long hearing, including Prof. Joseph Massad, who called Hamas’s brutal October 7 onslaught "awesome" and "astounding." Shafik stated that Massad was "under investigation" and no longer held his role as chair of the academic review committee.

But the details of Abdou’s supposed termination were unclear, with Shai Davidai, an assistant professor at the Columbia University Business School and an outspoken advocate for Jewish and Israeli students at Columbia since October 7, claiming that Shafik made several false statements during her testimony.

Approached by The Times of Israel after the congressional hearing, Davidai claimed that Shafik had "lied about Prof. Abdou being terminated — he’s still on the Columbia website."

Abdou appeared to confirm the allegations in an interview posted by The Electronic Intifada, a US-based Paleostinian publication, on April 27, saying, "I am not terminated. My contract is coming to an end on May 30."

Posts on social media since also appear to show Abdou walking freely around campus, with one photo posted on Wednesday apparently showing the professor entering a Columbia building with a security guard standing watch, while videos from the previous week show him walking around the protest encampment unimpeded by campus security.

The wave of anti-Israel protests has sent shockwaves through college campuses across the US and elsewhere, with hundreds of arrests and student suspensions in recent weeks.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams
...Hizonner da Mare of Noo Yawk. As a Manchurian candidate, Hizonner was all in favor of law and order and that kind of stuff. Once in office, a few of his friends found cushy jobs with the city, the windows kept getting broken, and Soros-funded DA Alvin Bragg remained right where he was. Most people comfort themselves with the thought that he's not Bill di Blasio but that's pretty small comfort with kids who actually go to school getting bumped off while standing in front of them. But he's a Dem, so the rubes will vote for him next election too, so he's what they deserve...
said on Wednesday that some 300 people had been arrested after police entered Columbia’s campus Tuesday to clear a tent encampment on the school’s grounds.

Police also cleared Hamilton Hall, with a stream of officers using a ladder to climb through a second-floor window. Protesters had seized the hall at the Ivy League school about 20 hours earlier.

Africa Horn
Egypt, Kuwait Call for End to External Interference in Sudan
[SUDANTRIBUNE] In a diplomatic move aimed at ending the conflict, Egypt and Kuwait announced their rejection of foreign interference in the ongoing conflict in Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans. The country is currently enjoying a civil war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, which used to be part of the army but then they got another ambitious general and you can guess the rest...
and called on the warring parties to stop the fighting that has been raging in the country for a year.

This rejection came in a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the visit of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshaal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, to Egypt on Wednesday.

The two sides stressed "The necessity of reaching an immediate and sustainable ceasefire in Sudan and called for an end to external interference that provides military support to any party in the conflict".

The Grand Turk
Türkiye stops trade with Israel due to situation in Gaza Strip
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Türkiye has completely stopped all trade with Israel amid the ongoing military operation of the Israeli armed forces in the Gaza Strip. Bloomberg reported this on May 2,citing unnamed Turkish officials.
What, again? How boringly predictable they are.
“Turkey has stopped all trade with Israel since Thursday, exacerbating already heightened tensions between the once close allies since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip... The move expands restrictions imposed last month on some Turkish exports,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

As Bloomberg notes, citing data from the Turkish Statistical Institute, in 2023 the volume of trade between the countries amounted to $6.8 billion. Turkey's largest exports to Israel are iron and steel.

Information about the cessation of trade with Israel was officially confirmed by the press service of the Turkish Ministry of Trade. They emphasized that the decision to stop both exports and imports, carried out within the framework of measures taken at the state level, will remain in effect until Israel ensures uninterrupted and sufficient supplies of humanitarian aid to Palestinians in need in the Gaza Strip.

As Regnum reported, on April 9, the Turkish TV channel TRT Haber reported that the Turkish authorities have limited the export of goods to Israel. At the first stage, restrictions affected 54 categories of goods, including mineral fertilizers, aviation fuel, and motor oils. The decision on export restrictions, as clarified by the head of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, was approved by the President of the Republic, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
IDF removes remnants of another Iran missile found by hikers in southern Israel
[IsraelTimes] The Israeli military removed remnants of another intercepted Iranian ballistic missile found by hikers at the Ye’elim stream, close to Arad, in southern Israel.

The missile was one of 120 fired at Israel in the Iranian attack on April 14.

The remnants were lifted out of the area by crane and moved to another location, where the Fire and Rescue Services removed any hazardous materials.

After it was deemed safe, the remnants were taken to an army base to be further examined.

Gaza doctor dies in Israeli jail; prison says he was detained for national security reasons
[IsraelTimes] A senior Paleostinian doctor died in an Israeli prison after more than four months of detention, two Paleostinian prisoner associations say, blaming Israel for his death.

The associations say in a joint statement that Adnan al-Bursh, head of orthopedics at Al Shifa Hospital, Gazoo
Islamic Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response. In October of 2023 Gazooks belonging to Hamas invaded Israel, killed over a thousand people, raped a bunch of women. Then they bitched and moaned about genocide when their butts handed to them in the entirely justified retaliation.
’s largest medical facility, were tossed into the calaboose by Israeli forces while temporarily working at al-Awada Hospital in north Gaza.

They called his death an "liquidation" and said his body remained in Israeli custody.

An Israeli military spokesperson said that the prison service had declared Bursh dead on April 19, saying that he were tossed into the calaboose for national security reasons in Ofer prison. The spokesperson did not comment on the cause of death.

Medical groups, including the World Health Organization, have repeatedly called for a halt to attacks on Gaza healthcare workers, with more than 200 killed so far in the Gaza conflict, according to an estimate from Insecurity Insight, a research group that collects and analyses data on attacks on aid workers around the world.

The Paleostinian health ministry said in a statement that Bursh’s death raised to 496 the number of medical sector workers who had been killed by Israel since October 7. It added that 1,500 others had been maimed, while 309 had been arrested. Those figures haven’t been verified

Israel accuses Hamas
...a regional Iranian catspaw,...
of using hospitals for military purposes and says its operations against them have been justified by the presence of fighters.

Earlier today, the Israeli authorities released 64 Paleostinians they had detained during their military offensive in Gaza via the Israeli-controlled Kerem Shalom Crossing, the Paleostinian borders and crossings agency said.

One of them was the body of another man who had died in detention, the prisoners’ associations says.

Another freed detainee arrived at death's door and was transferred to a hospital upon arrival, the crossings agency adds.

Dozens of Paleostinians who had been freed by Israel in past months including some staff of a UN agency have reported ill-treatment during detention, including torture and deprivation of food and sleep. Israel says it adheres to international law regarding the treatment of prisoners.

The two new deaths bring the toll of Gazooks who died in Israeli custody to at least 18 since the start of the war, the prisoners associations says, urging Israeli authorities to disclose the number, location and fate of detainees from Gaza.

UNRWA has documented the release of 1,506 people detained by the Israeli authorities through the Kerem Shalom Crossing as of April 4 and said the transfer of detainees regularly holds up aid. The 1,506 figure included 43 children and 84 women, it said.

Kibbutz Be'eri announces resident Dror Or was killed on Oct. 7, body being held in Gaza

Or had been designated as a hostage to date.

Such announcements typically come after the IDF obtains additional forensics leading to a determination of a hostage’s death.

Or, 49, was taken hostage with two of his children, Noam, 17 and Alma, 13, by Hamas holy warriors who attacked their home in Kibbutz Be’eri on October 7.

The family was forced out of their safe room as holy warriors set the house on fire. A neighbor saw the holy warriors grabbing and taking them hostage.

Days later, the body of Yonat Or, Dror’s wife and mother of their three children, was found.

17-year-old Noam and 13-year-old Alma Or were released on November 25 as part of a temporary ceasefire deal brokered by Qatar

and the United States between Hamas and Israel.

Noam and Alma’s older brother, Yahli, and their dog, Nella, survived. Yahli Or is volunteering in a year of national service in the north, and wasn’t home on October 7.

Dror Or was a chef and cheesemaker in the Be’eri Dairy, an award-winning artisanal cheese-making operation, founded in 1991 at the kibbutz.

His wife Yonat Or, was also an entrepreneur who created Ayuna, her own carpentry and furniture line in Be’eri.

The announcement from Kibbutz Be’eri brings the total of deceased Israelis being held in Gaza to 37.

UN says Gaza reconstruction to cost $30-40 billion, damage on scale unseen since WWII
[IsraelTimes] United Nations Development Programme report estimates Palestinian economy has shrunk by 26.9% since Hamas’s October 7 massacre, UN assistant secretary-general Abdullah Al Dardari said. Dardari previously served as deputy prime minister under Syrian President Bashar Assad.
The article does not say anything about how this war’s reconstruction costs compare to the several wars Hamas started in the past two decades, but Mr. Al Dardari is greatly exercised nonetheless.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran denies IRGC molested, killed teen protester during Mahsa Amini unrest
[IsraelTimes] BBC report said this week that death of 16-year-old Nika Shakarami was covered up as a suicide after teen was killed by Iranian forces suppressing anti-regime protests

Iran’s judiciary denied on Thursday a BBC report suggesting a teenage girl was sexually assaulted and killed by Revolutionary Guards during the 2022 protests triggered by Mahsa Amini’s death.

Protests erupted across Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Sturmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Fuhrer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
over the September 2022 death of Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurd, after her arrest by the morality police in Tehran for allegedly breaching the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s strict dress code for women.

The body of 16-year-old Nika Shakarami, who disappeared on September 20 after joining one of those demonstrations in the capital, was found after a week. At the time, the authorities in Iran denied the death was linked to the protests, claiming Shakarami did away with himself by jumping from a building.

But a BBC report this week contained allegations the teenager had been sexually assaulted and killed after being arrested by members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. During her ordeal, the teenager was beaten by three members of the Iranian security forces using batons and was also shocked with three Taser guns, the report said. The circumstances of her death were deliberately covered up by those involved, the outlet found, and though the identities of all those involved are listed in the document describing the details of the incident, only one is known to have received a reprimand.

A statement posted on the Iranian judiciary’s "Mizan Online" website responded to the report: "The so-called investigative report of BBC World about Nika Shakarami showed that this media outlet... is not committed to truth and reality,"

The statement added that the report showed the British broadcaster "did not and does not pay attention to the most basic principle of a documented report, which is the possibility of verifying and validating the sources and documents."

The judiciary’s statement, which contains a number of photos and documents from Tehran’s Legal Medicine Organization, rejected the molestation claim and said the teenager had did away with himself.

Shakarami’s mother has long accused authorities of causing her daughter’s death.

The BBC said 551 protesters were killed by security during Iran’s anti-government Woman, Life, Freedom movement, citing a UN fact-finding mission.

Iranian officials labeled the protests "riots" and accused Tehran’s foreign enemies of fomenting the unrest.

The report came after last month activists said that Iran is again increasing its crackdown on dissidents and enforcing the obligatory wearing of hijabs.
