Afghanistan
LeT denies it attacked Indian consulate in Afghanistan
"Wudn't us!"
[DAWN] Pakistain-based Death Eater group Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
(LeT) denied Monday that it was behind an attack last week by gunnies on an Indian diplomatic mission in Afghanistan, in a call to news agency AFP.

Afghanistan's Caped President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...
claimed Monday that he had been informed by a Western intelligence agency that LeT was responsible for the assault on the Indian consulate in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
which left two coppers maimed.

"Hamid Karzai's claim is not based on truth. We condemn the attack," a man identifying himself as LeT front man Abdullah Ghaznavi said in a call to AFP's office in India-held Kashmire.

"Our operations are limited to Jammu and Kashmire alone, and these will continue until the dawn of freedom for the territory," he said from some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location.

AFP said the caller spoke in Urdu and rang from an unrecognised number.

The news agency says LeT have called them in the past to issue denials of their involvement in attacks.

Sudanese woman sentenced to death for apostasy gives birth
The Sudanese woman who has been sentenced to hang for refusing to renounce Christianity has given birth to a baby girl named Maya, her lawyers told The Telegraph. Meriam Ibrahim, 27, gave birth to the girl — her second child — in the early hours of Tuesday morning, in the hospital wing of the prison.

"They didn't even take Meriam to a hospital - she just delivered inside a prison clinic," As Elshareef Ali Elshareef Mohammed, her lawyer, told The Telegraph. "But neither her husband nor I have been allowed to see them yet."

Her son, 20-month-old Martin, has been with her inside the cell since she was first charged in February. Ms Ibrahim's husband, Daniel Wani, who is in a wheelchair, said last week that she was being kept shackled by the ankles in her cell.

She was sentenced to death on May 15 by a court in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum. Ms Ibrahim denied the charges of apostasy and adultery - the court did not recognise her 2011 marriage to Mr Wani, a Christian - because she said her Muslim father abandoned the family, and she was raised a Christian.

She is to be allowed to nurse her child for two years before the sentence is carried out.

A petition to quash Ms Ibrahim's sentence, organised by Amnesty International, has been signed by 660,000 people so far — but the rights group has been barred from Sudan since 2005.

"Apostasy and adultery should not even be crimes," Manar Idriss, Sudan researcher at Amnesty, told The Telegraph. "It's a personal choice who to marry and what to believe.

"The human rights situation has been deteriorating for the past few years. It's an extremely repressive regime, with opposition activists tortured, and the targeting of anyone who dares to defy the regime."
So what will you do about it?
On Thursday her lawyers filed an appeal at the Appeal Court of Bahri and Sharq Al Nil. If the appeal is unsuccessful, they are planning to explore further avenues, and take the case to Sudan's Supreme Court and Constitutional Court.

Nina Shea, director of the Centre for Religious Freedom at New York's Hudson Institute, said that apostasy from Islam is criminalised in many, though not all, Muslim-majority states. Turkey does not criminalise it, but Iran and Saudi Arabia do imprison converts. Actual executions by governments for conversion are virtually unheard of today.

"In the case of Meriam Ibrahim, the government of Sudan is adopting the practice of Islamic extremist groups like Boko Haram, al-Shabab, and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria," she told The Telegraph. "All of those groups do put Christian converts to death."
If we had a president worth anything he'd point out to the Sudanese that Ms. Ibrahim is married to an American citizen, and nothing had better happen to her or else. If we had a CIA worth anything we'd already have plans to poison the jailers, warden, and commanders of the military districts...

Somalia's Shebab Claim Djibouti Attack against 'Crusaders'
[An Nahar] Somalia's Shabaab rebels on Tuesday grabbed credit for a weekend kaboom on a Djibouti restaurant packed with Westerners, saying it targeted French "crusaders".

The al-Qaeda-linked group also urged the Horn of Africa nation and key Western ally to expel foreign forces and shut down the United States' main Africa base, or else face a wave of more serious attacks.

"As part of the ongoing Jihad against the Western-led Crusade against Islam, Harakat Al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
Al Mujahideen forces have on Saturday night carried out a successful operation against the coalition of Western Crusaders based in Djibouti," the group said in a statement.

The group said the attack "targeted a restaurant frequented predominantly by French Crusaders and their NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
allies from the U.S., Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, resulting in 35 casualties".

It said the main targets were "French Crusaders" because of their "complicity in the massacres and persecution of our Mohammedan brothers in the Central African Republic and for their active role in training and equipping the apostate Djiboutian troops".

Local officials said three people -- a Turkish national and two jacket wallahs, one of them a woman -- died in the attack, although the Shabaab statement claimed that two "senior French commanders" were also killed.

Local authorities have said seven Frenchies, four Germans, three Spanish and several locals were hurt, while the French foreign ministry has said its nationals were only lightly maimed.

Shabaab said the attack was also carried out in retaliation for Djibouti's hosting of the United States' biggest military base in Africa.

Kenya: Somalis scapegoated in counter-terror crackdown
[Shabelle] Kenya's Somali community is being scapegoated in a counter-terror operation which has seen thousands subjected to arbitrary arrest, harassment, extortion, ill-treatment, forcible relocation and expulsion, Amnesia Amnesty International said today.

In a new Briefing Paper Amnesia Amnesty International documents a disturbing wave of serious human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
violations suffered by Kenya's Somali community since a security crackdown -- known as 'Operation Usalama Watch' -- began in early April 2014.

"It appears that 'Operation Uslama Watch' is being used as a pretext for the blanket punishment of the Somali community in Kenya. They have become scapegoats with thousands enjugged
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
and ill-treated, forcibly relocated and hundreds unlawfully expelled to a war-torn country," said Michelle Kagari, Deputy Regional Director for Eastern Africa at Amnesia Amnesty International.

"Whilst Kenya has legitimate national security concerns, the wholesale targeting of an already marginalized and vulnerable community is an appalling breach of national and international law. We call on the Kenyan government to immediately end human rights violations against Somalis, including refugees, ensure their protection, and provide redress where violations have occurred."

The Kenyan authorities began mass round-ups of Somalis following two attacks in March which killed and injured scores of people. A lack of transparency and due process has meant that the exact number of those arrested and those still in detention remains unclear. However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, Joseph Ole Lenku is quoted as stating that more than 4,000 people were arrested in the first week of the operation alone.

Amnesia Amnesty International is not aware of a single Somali arrested during this operation who has been charged with terrorism-related offences.

[Shabelle] Terrorist suspect Samantha Lewthwaite -- dubbed The White Widow -- has married a ruthless terror chief while on the run in lawless Somalia.

Intelligence sources claim the British runaway, who was married to Huddersfield jacket wallah Jermaine Lindsay, tied the knot with suspected warlord Hassan Maalim Ibrahim, also known as Sheikh Hassan.

Egypt Extends Presidential Election Voting 1 Day
[Ynet] State TV says Egypt's election commission has extended voting in the presidential election for a third day amid reported low turnout. Government officials, media and the military harangued voters to go to the polls Tuesday in what was supposed to be the final day of the vote, worried that turnout was weaker than expected.

The front-runner, former army chief Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, is trying to garner an overwhelming show of support. Monitoring groups and al-Sis's rival candidate reported low turnout by early Tuesday. Closer to sunset, numbers increased.

State Department tells U.S. citizens to leave Libya immediately

Tunisia Delays Trial of Suspects in U.S. Embassy Attack
[An Nahar] A Tunisian court delayed for the third time Tuesday the appeals trial of Islamists accused of attacking the U.S. embassy in 2012, with numerous defendants and lawyers absent.

The appeals court in Tunis adjourned the trial until July 1 to appoint a lawyer for two of the accused, the judge said after a brief hearing.

The trial had already been postponed in January and March, because the prosecution failed to summon two thirds of the defendants to court.

But despite an official summons, only seven of the accused appeared at Tuesday's hearing.

Last year, the public prosecutor appealed the two-year suspended jail terms given to 20 suspects for their roles in the attack, after the United States and Tunisia strongly criticized the leniency of the sentences.

Hundreds of angry Islamist protesters attacked the U.S. mission in Tunis after an American-made film mocking their religion was published on the Internet, unleashing a wave of violence across the Mohammedan world.

Tunisia's Islamist-led government accused the radical Salafist group Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libya, Tunisia and Yemen, with the Libyan and Tunisian versions currently most active...
of orchestrating the attack in which four of the assailants were killed.

U.S. Deploys Warship Carrying Marines off Libya
[An Nahar] The United States is deploying an amphibious assault ship with about 1,000 marines off the coast of Libya in case the U.S. embassy must be evacuated, a U.S. defense official said Tuesday.

The USS Bataan was to be in the area "in a matter of days," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The move was described as "precautionary" in case conditions in Libya, where militia battles have plunged the country into anarchy, worsen and require the embassy's evacuation.

The State Department said last week that the embassy in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
was operating normally despite an offensive launched against Islamist militias by a dissident general, Khalifa Haftar.

In addition to the 1,000 marines on board, the Bataan is equipped with several helicopters.

The United States also has available 250 marines, seven tilt-rotor Osprey aircraft and three refueling aircraft in Sigonella, Italia.

London Brothers Admit Syria Terror Training Plot
[An Nahar] Two brothers on Tuesday pleaded guilty in a British court to conspiring to attend a terror training camp in Syria.

Mohommod Nawaz, 30, and Hamza Nawaz, 24, were incarcerated
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
in September as they entered the port of Dover on the southeast English coast.

Officers who searched their car allegedly found five rounds of ammunition for an AK-type gun, a balaclava, some "heavy-duty clothing", six mobile phones and a SIM card inside a Koran.

The men, from Stratford in east London, allegedly drove to La Belle France, then flew to Turkey before travelling over the border into Syria.

At the Old Bailey central criminal court, the brothers pleaded guilty to conspiring to attend a place used for terrorist training between January 1, 2012 and September 16, 2013.

Mohommod Nawaz also pleaded guilty to having ammunition without a firearms certificate, while the same charge against his brother was ordered to remain on file.

They will be sentenced on June 9.

The prosecution decided not to proceed with charges against a brother and sister living at the same address as the Nawaz brothers.

Following the brief court hearing, police urged worried families to contact officers if they thought relatives were planning to go to Syria.

"Travelling abroad to engage in terrorist-related activity is a serious offence and we will continue to prosecute, where appropriate, anyone engaged in this type of activity," said deputy assistant commissioner Helen Ball, the senior national coordinator for counter-terrorism.

Opposition boycotts PA session with usual gripe
[DAWN] LAHORE: The opposition boycotted the Punjab Assembly session on Monday to protest against the chief minister for not allocating development funds to its members.

Unlike the past occasions, the speaker avoided sending someone from the treasury to bring the opposition members back.

Opposition Leader Mahmoodur Rasheed said the provincial government was disrespecting the people who had given votes to the opposition MPAs. "A year has gone by but the PML-N government has not bothered to give funds to the opposition politicians. It is an insult to the people of their (MPAs) constituencies," he said.

Mr Rasheed also regretted that the government had included the PML-N defeated candidates in the district coordination committees at the cost of the elected ones. He said the PML-N leaders were not tired of talking democracy but their attitude was not democratic.

He warned that the opposition would not let the speaker run the house even during the budget session if their grievances were not redressed.

Deputy Speaker Sher Ali Gorchani, who was in the chair, did not bother to send someone from the treasury to bring the opposition members back.

Law Minister Rana Sanaullah told the house in the absence of the opposition that he had arranged the meeting of the opposition members with the chief minister over the funds' issue. Army chief says nation has rejected terrorist ideology
[DAWN] Appreciating resolve of Pak troops and locals in the tribal areas, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif on Tuesday said the whole nation has rejected the "misplaced ideology of the terrorists," who he said have clearly lost their cause and are being marginalised.

Speaking to the troops, he commended their professional commitment and paid rich tributes to them for their sacrifices in bringing peace and normality to the troubled regions bordering Afghanistan, said a blurb issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The statement came during his visit of the field formations deployed in Wazoo tribal agencies today.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Sharif reiterated Pakistain Army's continued whole hearted support for tribal brethren under all circumstances.

He reviewed the progress of mega and micro projects of socio economic significance, being undertaken by the Army, and appreciated them for quality of work and timely completion in the area.

The ISPR blurb added that the army chief particularly mentioned the construction of Central Trade Corridor -- a 714-kilometre road network linking Pakistain's Indus Highway and Waziristan agencies with the Afghan Ring Road.

India's Modi accepts invitation to visit Pakistan
[DAWN] India's new Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted an invitation by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
to visit Pakistain, Indian Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh told news hounds in New Delhi on Tuesday.

"All SAARC leaders invited the [Indian] PM to visit. He accepted. The dates have to be worked out," Indian media quoted Singh as saying.

Sharif is in India on a two-day visit to attend the inauguration ceremony of India's new prime minister, Narendra Modi, with whom he had a "warm and cordial" bilateral meeting, he said.

"We agreed that our meeting in New Delhi should be a historic opportunity for both our countries," he told news hounds.

"This provides us the opportunity of meeting the hopes and aspirations of our peoples that we will succeed in turning a new page in our relations."

He said that both men shared a common goal of economic development which could not be achieved without "peace and stability in the region."

Sharif said that top diplomats from both countries would meet soon to advance peace talks that have moved fitfully because of political tensions between the neighbours.

"We also agreed that the two foreign secretaries would be meeting soon to review and carry forward our bilateral agenda in the spirit of our meeting today."

Hamas ready to hand over Gaza administration to unity govt.
[Iran Press TV] The Gazoo-based Paleostinian resistance movement Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, has expressed readiness to hand over the administration of the besieged Gazoo Strip to a Paleostinian unity government.

The announcement was made in a Hamas cabinet statement issued on Tuesday, signaling that the two main Paleostinian political groups of Hamas and Fatah are closer to an agreement on national unity.

Deputy Prime Minister Ziad al-Zaza said the government "is ready to hand over its full responsibilities to the unity government," the statement said.

The Hamas cabinet also noted it held its 343rd and final weekly meeting on Tuesday.

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Count Guido had been cornered by the banditti...
Azzam al-Ahmed, an envoy from Fatah, said after talks in Gazoo with Hamas officials that the two groups "have finished consultations on the national consensus government."

On April 23, Hamas and the Paleostine Liberation Organization (PLO), which includes Fatah, pledged to settle their differences and form a unity government. Under the long-awaited deal, Hamas and Fatah are to establish the unity government within five weeks and hold national elections six months later.

The Israeli regime reacted to the act of reconciliation among the Paleostinians by canceling the so-called peace talks with the Paleostinian Authority and threatening sanctions against it.

The blockaded Gazoo Strip has been administered by Hamas while the Paleostinian Authority governs parts of the occupied West Bank.

Al-Qaeda In Syria Claims Car Bombings In Homs
[Ynet] The main al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria, the Nusra Front, has grabbed credit on Monday for the two latest boom-mobileings in a pro-government neighborhood of the central city of Homs that killed at least 10 people.

The bombings occurred on Sunday, weeks after rebels and pro-government forces agreed to a truce that allowed for the evacuation of opposition fighters from besieged parts of the city.
