Afghanistan
NDS, Experts Agree on Need to Stop Taliban's Foreign Financing
Who will bell the ISI? Not to mention the opium gangs...
[Tolo News] In order to swipe the legs out from under the Taliban, the National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS) along with independent analysts have argued that cutting off international funding for the Lion of Islam group is crucial.

According to the NDS, although the drug, weapons and human trafficking are well-known sources of income for turbans and bully boyz inside Afghanistan, they also rely heavily on direct funding from Pakistain and individuals in different gulf states.

"Their first source of financial support is Pak intelligence, who provide logistical support to the Taliban; secondly, representatives from these groups travel to gulf countries and get money from Arab Sheikhs; and thirdly, their members work in gulf countries and send their salaries to support the group," NDS front man Haseeb Sediqi said.

Estimates put the annual income of the Taliban at around 200 million USD, which is thought to mostly go toward recruitment, weapons and subsistence expenses like food.

Kabul MP Shukria Barakzai says the coalition backing the Taliban hopes to accomplish the opposite of what the coalition backing the Afghan government wants. "The same way we have a global coalition for supporting Afghanistan, there is a coalition outside Afghanistan to continue the battle in Afghanistan," Barakzai said.

"When you look at the graph of countries who take the most advantage of conflict in Afghanistan, you can see that stability in Afghanistan would cut off their resources," she added. "Countries involved in conflict in Afghanistan have been taking military and economic advantage since 2001 through now."

Meanwhile,
...back at the mall, Clarissa spent the day shopping for new underwear. Tonight was going to be a special occasion...
counterinsurgency experts agree that by interrupting the funding pipeline for the Taliban and other groups, their ability to pose threats inside Afghanistan would be greatly reduced.

"Without a doubt, if the financial resources are disconnected or are eliminated, the Taliban will not be able to continue their battle," military analyst Atiqullah Amarkhail said. "The less their resources are, the weaker they will be; major intelligence agencies of the world like the U.S. and Britannia and our Afghan intelligence can harm their resources."
Good luck, guys. You'll need it.

Countering Narcotics in Helmand a Failure
[Tolo News] According to the Deputy Minister of Counter Narcotics in the Ministry of Interior (MoI), Baz Mohammad Ahmadi, more than 50 percent of Afghan poppy is cultivated in southern Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province.

Ahmadi raised apprehensions over the implementation of programs for counter-narcotics, stating that the initiatives to eliminate poppy cultivation have not been effective in the past few years.

"The government and the ministry [MoI] have put efforts to bring the level of narcotic cultivation down. But unfortunately, the programs have not succeeded."

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the pastor had finally been wrestled from the pulpit.
Y'got the wrong guy! he yelled just before Sergeant Malone's billy club landed...

Gen. Assadullah Shirzad, commander of the Afghan special police forces, stated that the forces discovered and burned 15 tons of narcotics in Helmand on Wednesday, adding that 53 people have been tossed in the calaboose
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
in relation to the case.

"We arrested 53 gunnies in relation to the case; they have been introduced and surrendered to the legal and judicial organs," he said.

Counter-narcotics efforts in Helmand, one of the most insecure provinces in the country, have constantly faced failure. Providing funding for insurgency, the opium trade has contributed to the deteriorating security in the province.

#1  By design, nearly all attempts at countering the flow of narcotics end in failure. Narcotics and economic aid [USAID or food stamps] have become the lifeblood of modern, urban civilizations. When either of these gov't supported enterprises end, [as Dr. Ben Carson surmises] anarchy will ensue.

600 'Terrorists' to Face Trial Soon in Tunisia
[An Nahar] The first trials of prisoners accused of "terrorism" in Tunisia since the 2011 revolution could open later this month, with 600 defendants facing prosecution, its justice minister said Thursday.

Hafedh Ben Salah told Agence La Belle France-Presse in an interview that the defendants included al-Qaeda-linked jihadists who have been battling the Tunisian army near the Algerian border for nearly two years.

Since the uprising that ousted former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in January 2011, Tunisia has seen a proliferation of jihadist militias suppressed under the former dictator.

These groups have been blamed for a wave of attacks, including the liquidation last year of two opposition politicians whose murders plunged the country into a protracted political crisis.

Suspected jihadists have also launched skirmishes against the army in the remote southern Mount Chaambi area since late 2012, killing dozens of soldiers and police.

In July, snuffies killed 15 soldiers in the restive border region, the bloodiest day in the army's history.

Other detainees awaiting their trial include suspects who "took part in (terrorist) acts or were preparing to do so," said Ben Salah.

"Since the revolution, I think there have been no murderous Moslems who stood trial but I think that the first cases will come to court towards the end of the month," he said.

According to the justice minister "there are 1,000-1,020 cases linked to terrorism" in Tunisia and "around 600 suspects jugged
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
for terrorism."

He said police had locked away
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
between 2,000-3,000 people since the revolution but that most suspects were released due to a lack of evidence.

"Some judges are vexed when it is said 'the police carry out arrests and the judge sets people free or dismisses a charge for lack of evidence'," Ben Salah said.

"The fact is, everyone has a role to play. The police cannot choose (who is guilty)... the judge will later decide if the suspect is in effect linked to terrorism."

Tunisian security forces played a key role in carrying out the repressive policies of the Ben Ali regime and reform has stalled since the revolution.

The country's stringent anti-terror legislation is also yet to change.

Authorities are still following a 2003 law, which has been widely criticized by rights groups as it has been used to repress Islamist opposition to the ousted regime.

But efforts to push an amended anti-terrorism law through parliament have failed even though a draft bill calling for defendants to have certain "guarantees" was submitted to politicians for a vote.

The justice minister said the law had so far failed because of a lack of quorum in parliament where it needs the approval of 109 deputies out of the 217-member national assembly.

"The government's position is that this law is a priority," said Ben Salah.

Tunisia is to hold legislative elections on October 26 followed by a presidential vote in November.

The minister said he expected the anti-terrorism law to return to parliament two days after the general election.

Tunisia Suspends TV Show for 'Glorifying Terrorism'
[An Nahar] Tunisia's audiovisual regulator said Wednesday it was suspending a television programme for one month for "glorifying terrorism" after a guest boasted of his friendship with a wanted jihadist leader.

The regulatory body, HAICA, said it had decided to "suspend the broadcast and repeat of the programme 'Only For Those Who Dare' for one month" and ordered the private station Al-Hiwar Attounsi to withdraw it from its website and social media pages.

Journalist Nasreddine Ben Hadid said on air that the leader of Tunisian jihadist group Ansar al-Sharia

#5  Erdogan seems to regard ISIL somewhat like your next door neighbor that has a Rottweiler running loose in his yard: as long as it stays on the other side of the fence, maybe not a bad thing.
The Turks have be trying to end the Kurds for at least a hundred years; he figures the Rottweiler can do his dirty work for him. Between Turkey's hostility, and our own government's passive-aggressive foreign policy, things don't look good for Kurdistan.

#8  If I were Birdygone...
I'd see an opportunity here to do Turkish things. ISJV vs Kurds is a good thing. In fact, I would set up a travel route for recruits to pass through Turkey in a manner which buffers against Kurd territories, so long as I get my cut from the traffic. I would have a wish list of nearby Syria locations to permanently temporarily occupy for humanitarian reasons when the ISJV vs. Kurds gets ugly for TV and I could roll in the military and get a pass for true war (actually using artillery, cluster bombs, kill the other side not degrade). On the other side, via McCain's mumbling yesterday, I would take a cut of the equipment being sent to Team Not Assad from the USA/West, not really caring if they are a storefront for ISJV, which works in Turkey's favor, or fight Assad, which also works in Turkey's favor. I'd use the umbrella of NATO so that if any of those actors gets frisky, I get at least a pass and monies to act with the possibility of military assistance.

I continue to consolidate power at home. Use the opportunity to get my people into military, police, and imam positions. Continue to tack towards stricter sharia as it gives me cover to expand powers over the polis.

Then, with Ukraine vs. Russ, ramp up transit fees for US/NATO to use the William J. Dardenelles turnpike. "Gotta pay for the increased security, wouldn't want some rebel group, Kurds wink wink, to ambush your surface ships." At the same time, I would send an agent to Russia and start bidding on a price & plan to have the passage accidentally closed by mines & ambush or bigfoot, whatever plausible, at Putin's convenience. Then ask for a counter offer from NATO to get it re-opened. Rinse, repeat.

Cyprus. I would edge around there and attempt to get a foothold on those energy pockets or at least a fee for not dingling. Host another Israel blockade run and let them go or sell the info for a price; either way I put on notice to Israel that I can put them in print anytime I allow, working off the entrenched media storyline.

By doing this, I think I can play ball with Iran by Kurds dying. I can play ball with Russia by not toppling Assad with the idea that when it become icky enough I can smash ISJV and round up the agents on my jihadi highway and turn over info on recruitment stations in and around Russia. I can play ball with NATO/USA by co-opting with their media concerns. In the meantime the Kurds and the Israelis get sand in the cogs.

Am I off? Miss anything? Any ops/concerns vs. Egypt or Sauds?

#9  Am I off? Miss anything?

If Turkey believes it can smash ISJV any time it wants, it is in for a shock. Erdogan has been purging the non-Islamist generals in his military for several years. (See Al-Maliki and the Iraqi Army to see how well this policy works)

If they continue this game, they will find themselves wishing those peshmerga were still alive.

Canada Seeks To Jail 80 Who Took Part In Foreign Terror Plots
[Ynet] Canada wants to arrest 80 people who returned to the country after taking part in suspected terrorism-related activities, the public safety minister said on Wednesday.

Canadian security officials have fretted for years about the number of young men traveling abroad to join bully boy groups, including Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. As of early 2014, at least 130 people with Canadian connections - including citizenship or residency - were suspected of a wide range of terrorism-related activities abroad, Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney said.

"Some have died, some remain abroad. We know of about 80 who have returned to Canada," he told Parliament's public safety committee, saying the individuals posed a serious threat.

"The secretary general is concerned about the recent escalation of violence along the Line of Control between India and Pakistain. He deplores the loss of lives and the displacement of civilians on both sides," said UN spokeswoman Vannina Maestracci on Thursday.

The UN chief "encourages the governments of India and Pakistain to resolve all differences through dialogue and to engage constructively to find a long-term solution for peace and stability in Kashmire," she added.

Pakistan capable of responding to Indian actions: Defence minister
[DAWN] Pakistan's defence minister said on Thursday that the country is capable of responding âbefittinglyâ to Indian actions on the border after several days of clashes in the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir.

âWe do not want the situation on the borders of two nuclear neighbours to escalate into confrontation,â Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said in a statement. âIndia must demonstrate caution and behave with responsibility.â

Defence minister's reaction comes against the backdrop of an earlier statement by his Indian counterpart Arun Jaitley where he 'warned' Pakistan to stop shelling in the disputed region.

India's defence minister warns Pakistan over LoC skirmish
[DAWN] India's defence minister on Thursday warned Pakistain to stop shelling in Kashmire, after some of the worst cross-border violence to hit the disputed region in years.

"If Pakistain persists with this adventurism, our forces will make cost of this adventurism unaffordable for it," Arun Jaitley told journalists in New Delhi.

"Pakistain should stop this unprovoked firing and shelling if it wants peace on the border. "The nuclear-armed neighbours have traded blame for the cross-border violence that has killed at least 12 civilians this week.

Thousands of people on both sides of the border have fled their homes and nine people died on Monday alone, the highest civilian toll in a single day in more than a decade.

International-UN-NGOs
Muslim States Outraged as EU, Others Boycott Anti-Israel UN Debate
[ArutzSheva] EU and western countries begin sitting out UNHRC sessions singling out Israel for criticism.

The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
and several countries have decided to no longer participate in UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions that single out Israel as a violator of civil rights. The decision has many Islamic countries up in arms.

Agenda Item 7 of the UNHRC is entitled, "The Human rights situation in Paleostine and other occupied Arab territories."

Though this might imply that the many civil rights violations by the Paleostinian Authority might be the topic of discussion, in fact it is Israel that is under the gun. Representative after representative typically takes the floor to condemn Israel's activities, even though it is the only true democracy in the region, and despite its legal system and media that constantly ensure the preservation of civil rights for all.

Pakistain, speaking for the Islamic Group at the UNHRC, expressed "deep disappointment that certain member states of the Western European and Others Group had ceased their participation under agenda item 7, which [is] particularly disturbing in the light of the latest Israeli behavior."

Other Arab countries reacted similarly. The United Arab Emirates, speaking for the Arab Group, expressed "extreme discontent about the European Union's decision to boycott this agenda item."

Iran, for the Non-Aligned Movement, was "deeply disappointed by the decision of certain states to cease their participation in this agenda item."

Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
said it saw that an increasing number of countries were insisting on boycotting agenda item 7, which was "proof of double standards concerning Israel." It declared that "Item 7 [is] a fundamental agenda item of the Council which would stand until Israeli occupation and impunity ended."

"Non-participation speaks loudest against bigotry"
Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of the UN Watch observer organization, took the floor at the most recent session and summed up as follows: "Today is an important day for justice at the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
... Today we meet under Agenda Item 7, which singles out one nation, Israel, for differential and discriminatory treatment."

"Let us recall that in 1968, a similar form of discrimination took place in Tehran, at a UN conference celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. René Cassin, author of that Declaration, was present at that event. When he saw that one nation was being singled out, he left early in protest," said Neuer.

"Because sometimes," Neuer continued, "non-participation speaks loudest. Sometimes, it is the only remedy that can deny the legitimacy of a bigotry which cannot otherwise be challenged or overcome."

Neuer noted with satisfaction that the European Union, the United States, Canada, Australia, La Belle France, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, and many other liberal democracies did not take the floor in the debate. "The free and democratic world, echoing the appeal of René Cassin, has spoken for justice."
Thank you all.

To paraph "NO TIME FOR SERGEANTS" WILY DASTARDLY USAF GENERAL ASHTON BUSH > "THATS RIDICULOUS, A POST-MERGER [Nuke-WMD armed]ISIS + AL-QAEDA OR BETTER WILL CONQUER THE CIVILIZED WORLD, NOT JUST CRIPPLE IT".

GEN. BUSH > "THATS RIDICULOUS ... ... ESPEC WID ALL THESE WITNESSES AROUND"!?

AFAIK the IS + deadly rival AL-NUSRA already had kissed-n-made-up a few weeks ago, unless this Artic is referring to NON-NUSRA QAEDA BOYZ/AFFILIATES [e.g. AQIM, AQAP aka AQIY, AQII(India)], + MAYBE POST-OSAMA "CORE" AL QAEDA = AYMAN-THE-Z-MAN???

Two Interviews Following The Gaza Operation
Brigadier-General Shachar Shochat, head of the Israeli Air Forceâs Air Defense Command

Lt.-Col. M., the head of the Palestinian desk at Military Intelligenceâs Research Department, was tasked with a near-impossible mission during the 50 days of fighting in Gaza: understand the intentions of Hamasâs leadership, and assess its resilience.

Now M., the man ultimately charged with gauging the Palestinian âenemy,â be it Hamas or the Palestinian Authority, is trying to understand what exactly happened in the last conflict, and how Hamas views things in its wake.

#1  KATSUMOTO: And you do not fear death. But sometimes you wish for it. Is this not so?
ALGREN: Yes.
KATSUMOTO: I, also. It happens to men who have seen what we have seen. And then I come to this place of my ancestors. And I remember...like these blossoms, we are all dying. To know life in every breath. Every cup of tea. Every life we take. The way of the warrior.
ALGREN: Life in every breath.
KATSUMOTO: That is Bushido.

#3  FYI as per CNN AM, unless something changes looks like the ISIS will capture 1/2 of Kurd-defended Kobane/Kobani.

Again, DEFENCE.PK/FORUMS = the ISIS has released a new Video, i.e. "MESSAGE TO ERDOGAN", where they threaten to attack Turkey + end Erdogan's rule as hated "Caliph of the [Secular] Muslim Brotherhood".

By threatening to attack + conquer NATO ally Turkey, Globalist Obama has yet another another another justification for unilaterally sending in US Milfors to combat the ISIS.

HAVE I SAID "ANOTHER"???

Iran warns Turkey over military presence in Syria
[Iran Press TV] Iran has warned the government of Turkey against possible military intervention in Syria as ISIL Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
holy warriors close in on the Syrian town of Kobani near the Arab country's border with Turkey.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Thursday that Tehran and Turkey are in consultation over the situation in the Kurdish city, noting that the Islamic Theocratic Republic has warned Turkey against ground operations in Syria.

He added that negotiations over the situation in Syria are going on with Tehran and Ankara trying to find a solution to the crisis in Kobani.

"During our preliminary consultations with Turkey, we have found out that this country does not seek escalation of crisis in the region and we hope it would play a positive role in this regard," the Iranian deputy foreign minister added.

The Iranian diplomat stated that Iran and Turkey are in dialogue over Syria and Iran believes that Turkey can play an effective role in facilitating the return of displaced Syrians to their homeland.

Explaining about Iran's solution for the ongoing crisis in Kobani, Amir-Abdollahian said, "Regional talks are underway over this issue and we hope a serious measure is taken in this regard."

"The Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran will take any necessary action to help the Kurds in Kobani in line with its support for the Syrian government in its fight against terrorism," added Amir-Abdollahian.

#1  The US = Bammer Admin may believe similar ...

* WORLD NEWS > [Jamaica-Gleaner] US FEARS TURKISH ANTI-ISIS FIGHT MAY GO TOO FAR.

No "Neo-Ottoman" Rising Turkey threat to "Neo-Persian" Rising Iran???

* BIGNEWSNETWORK > [Guardian.UK] ISIS AISTRIKES LIMITED WIDOUT VIABLE SYRIAN REBEL FORCE.

Now as then, AFAIK the anti-Assad FSA + aligned are still waiting on the Bammer's promised support, as are the Kurds at Kobane/Kobani.

NO BAMMER SUPPORT = NO "VIABLE" SYRIAN REBEL FORCE = NO SERIOUS OR MULTI-PLANE BUFF STRIKES, ONLY "LONE" BUFF STRIKES???

* OTOH TOPIX > AS BATTLE FOR KOBANI RAGES, OBAMA STILL HAS NO SYRIA STRATEGY.

...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....

The father of captive Mohammed Youssef said he received the phone call from the IS fighter at 10:00 am Thursday.
