Afghanistan
China offers to mediate in stalled Afghan Taliban peace talks
[Ynet] China offered on Thursday to mediate in stalled efforts to engage the Afghan Taliban in peace negotiations, reflecting its desire to play a more active role in a region it sees as part of its sphere of influence.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the announcement as he arrived in the Pak capital on a two-day visit aimed at cementing traditionally warm ties between communist China and conservative Islamic Pakistain.

Afghanistan and its Western backers have been trying to bring moderate Taliban figures to the negotiating table to end years of war in the country. Pakistain is key to the process because of its historic ties to the Taliban leaders, who have used the Pak border region as a safe haven.

"We will support the Afghan government in realising reconciliation with various political factions including the Taliban," Wang told news hounds.

Arabia
UN Chief: Yemen on Brink of Collapse
[VOA News] United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Secretary-General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
on Thursday said Yemen is on the brink of collapse as peace talks there are faltering.

Yemen is slipping further into chaos as the Houthis, an Iranian-backed Shi'ite Moslem militia from the north, consolidate their grip on power after seizing the capital in September and sidelining the central government.

The fighters have been advancing into southern territories, confronting Sunni Moslem rustics, other groups and the local branch of al-Qaeda.

Worsening security conditions recently prompted the United States, Britannia and La Belle France to close embassies there.

"Let me be clear: Yemen is collapsing before our eyes," said Ban, who recently returned from Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the United Arab Emirates for meetings on Yemen's rapidly developing crisis. "We cannot stand by and watch."

Bangladesh
Food for Khaleda's staff stopped
[Dhaka Tribune] The police yesterday reportedly twice barred a van, carrying food for the BNP chief's staff and party leaders who had been accompanying the loathesome Khaleda Zia
Three-term PM of Bangla, widow of deceased dictator Ziaur Rahman, head of the Bangla Nationalist Party, an apparent magnet for corruption ...
since January 3, from entering the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office.

However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
law enforcers did not stop Khaleda's relatives, who brought food for the three-time prime minister, from sending the nourishments inside.

Shamsuddin Didar, an official of Khaleda's press wing, said when the food-carrying van arrived in front of the Gulshan office, the police did not allow it to enter the office; similarly the lunch was also turned away from the gate.

"Food is being barred from entering the office since Wednesday night. I could not understand why the police did not allow food inside. Is there any law which prohibits food from being sent to anyone's office?" Didar said.

Non-stop hartal after Feb 14 if demands not met
[Dhaka Tribune] The BNP-led 20-party alliance yesterday issued a fresh ultimatum, asking the government to either accept the mid-term polls demand by February 14 or face a countrywide nonstop strike in addition to the ongoing blockade.
"Non-stop hartal" looks like the only weapon in BNP's arsenal, the useful hammer that fits all occasions. They boycotted the last election and kept up a non-stop hartal until it was held, trying to prevent it.
In a statement, BNP Joint Secretary Salahuddin Ahmed said the 20-party combine would hold peaceful demonstrations in all upazilas, municipalities, district headquarters and cities across the country on February 14.

The alliance's demands include an election under a non-partisan interim government, end to extra-judicial killings and repression of its leaders and activists, and release of those behind bars.

"If the government does not accept these demands, tougher programmes will be put in place from February 15 alongside the ongoing blockade," Salahuddin said in the statement, which was emailed to the media yesterday.

The threat comes at a time when as the situation in the country appears to be returning to normality despite the blockade and hartal

s.

The BNP-led alliance enforced the nationwide transport blockade on January 6. Around 70 lives have so far been claimed by the violence that has since been following. Most of those people killed belong to the low income groups.

Salahuddin Ahmed has been in hiding for around a month. He took over the charge of the party's spokesperson after another Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi got placed in durance vile

Salahuddin, on behalf of party chief the loathesome Khaleda Zia

, urged law enforcers not to turn the country into a "dreadful place" just for the government to stay in power longer and claimed that their action programmes have been "peaceful."

Evita Charged With Coverup of Iranian Terror Attack
Federal Prosecutor Gerardo Pollicita has requested to investigate President Cristina FernĂĄndez de Kirchner and Foreign Minister HĂŠctor Timerman in a case involving an alleged cover-up of Iran's role in the 1994 AMIA bombing.

Giving a green light to a complaint first filed by now late AMIA special prosecutor Alberto Nisman, Pollicita presented the report before Judge Daniel Rafefas.

Ruling Victory Front (FpV) lawmaker Andrés Larroque, social leader Luis D’Elía, head of the political group Quebracho Fernando Esteche, ex judge Héctor Yrimia and Allan Bogado have been also charged.

Pollicita’s presentation does not involve an inquiry of the defendants.

Judge Rafecas, who was on leave till February 20, has decided to resume duties returning to court to address Pollicita's request.

Imams forced to dance in the street in China
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The government of China has reportedly forced Moslem imams to dance in the street in a move which is seen as yet another crackdown on religious freedoms.

According to a report published World Bulletin on Monday, the incident took place in Xinjiang district which is inhabited mostly by the Moslems.

The imams were also forced to swear to an oath that they will not teach religion to children as well telling them that prayer is harmful to the soul.

The newspaper citing reports by the statement media reportd that the imams were also forced to chant out slogans such as 'peace of the country gives peace to the soul".

In the meantime, the public servants are forced to brandish the slogan that "our income comes from the CKP not from Allah".

Female teachers were instructed to teach children to stay away from religious education and made to swear an oath that they will keep children away from religion, the report added.

According to reports, around 13.4 million Moslems are residing in Xinjiang which has a population of around 22 million.

The province has witnessed a wave of deadly festivities that Beijing often describes as Islamic terrorism where Beijing launched a so-called "people's war on terror" in May.

The operation was launched in the wake of a market bombing in Urumqi in which 31 people were killed.

However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
the experts believe that violence in the province is often caused due to ethnic tensions boiling over between the two groups.

Xinjiang is home to the Uighurs, a largely Moslem, Turkic-speaking group as well as a growing number of Han Chinese migrants who have poured into the region which borders Pakistain, Afghanistan and Kazakhstan.

In the meantime, human rights

groups accuse the government of systematically violating the Uighurs' right to freedom of worship and say the Communist Party's hard-line policies on religion are only serving to further radicalise Moslem youth.

Man accused of Australian terror plot threatened stabbings
[Ynet] One of two men charged with planning to launch an imminent terrorist attack in Australia appeared on a video threatening to stab the kidneys and necks of their victims, the nation's prime minister said Thursday, accusing the pair of "monstrous extremism."

Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who watched the video, told Parliament it depicted one of the men kneeling before the flag with a knife in his hand and a machete in front of him. Abbott quoted the man as saying: "I swear to almighty Allah, we will carry out the first operation for the soldiers of the caliphate in Australia. ... George W. Bush: Islamic State shows 'evil is real'

bandidos Lions of Islam and his views of their murderous actions, saying simply: "Evil is real," he said, a local television station reported.

"There is no light grey," he said from the presidential address at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, KTBC TV reported. "Murdering innocent people to move a political point of view has been, is and always will be evil."

Mr. Bush was also asked about the Gay Paree terrorist attacks that started at the Charlie Hebdo

newspaper and then moved to a Jewish grocery, leaving numerous dead.

"[The] nature of these enemies are the same of those who attacked us on our soil," he said in an apparent reference to the Sept. 11, 2001, terror strikes on America, The Blaze reported. "They strike in order to frighten us who believe in freedom."

Mr. Bush's unfettered views are a sharp contrast to those of President B.O.'s, who has been soundly criticized in recent weeks for refusing to use the word "Islamist" when describing certain acts of terror.

India-Pakistan
Pakistan will not accept India as UNSC permanent member: Nawaz
[DAWN] Pakistain made it clear to the United States on Thursday it would not accept India as a permanent member of United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Security Council (UNSC).

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
expressed these reservations while speaking with US President Barack Obama
I bowled a 129. It’s like — it was like Special Olympics, or something...
on the phone, the PM House said in a statement.

The prime minister said India cannot become a UNSC permanent member due to its non-compliance of all the resolutions passed by UN regarding Kashmire, added the front man.

The US president called Nawaz in the evening where both the leaders discussed issues of mutual interest and those related to regional stability and peace for over half-an-hour, said the statement.

The front man said the prime minister made it clear upon the US president that permanent slot for India at the UNSC will not be tolerated at any cost as India has not fulfilled any resolution passed by UN aimed at assuring the right of self determination for the people of Kashmire.

DG ISPR confident of Mullah Fazlullah's speedy arrest
Yet another "we're gonna" instead of a "we did."
[DAWN] Director General (DG) Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa
... who is The Very Model of a Modern Major General...
claimed Thursday that a large portion of North Wazoo had been cleared in Operation Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
Holding a presser, the ISPR front man further said the operation is progressing successfully, adding that Operation Khyber-1 is also underway with full force.

Talking about the Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
school carnage, he said the attack was ordered by Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP) Chief Mullah Fazlullah
...son-in-law of holy man Sufi Mohammad. Known as Mullah FM, Fazlullah had the habit of grabbing his FM mike when the mood struck him and bellowing forth sermons. Sufi suckered the Pak govt into imposing Shariah on the Swat Valley and then stepped aside whilst Fazlullah and his Talibs imposed a reign of terror on the populace like they hadn't seen before, at least not for a thousand years or so. For some reason the Pak intel services were never able to locate his transmitter, much less bomb it. After ruling the place like a conquered province for a year or so, Fazlullah's Talibs began gobbling up more territory as they pushed toward Islamabad, at which point as a matter of self-preservation the Mighty Pak Army threw them out and chased them into Afghanistan...
who divided his force into two groups. Omar Ameer took responsibility for the operation while Haji Kamran was made the head of the operation.

Giving a breakdown, Bajwa said there were 27 Death Eaters in total out of which 12 had been tossed in the slammer
Please don't kill me!
, nine were killed whereas six were still being hunted down. He also said most of the Death Eaters were Pak nationals.

He said one of the Death Eaters Taj alias Rizwan had six men under him -- three of whom were killed by security forces during the siege at the army-run school, while the others were killed during military action in North Waziristan.

The DG further said six of the 12 arrests were made from Afghanistan and expressed his thanks to the Afghan government for their assistance in improving border coordination.

Bajwa said they were confident that all the remaining Death Eaters would be arrested at the earliest. "Mullah Fazlullah and Aurangzeb alias Omar Ameer are currently in Afghanistan and they will be captured soon. Intelligence agencies are working on this in a very focused manner."

In response to a question, Bajwa said Fazlullah's arrest was being discussed fervently. "He is a known terrorist, his capture and handover to Pakistain are being discussed with the Afghan leadership and we are hopeful that we will hear a quick response from them in this regard."

The ISPR front man revealed that a myrmidon commander named Hazrat Ali collected funds to carry out the APS attack. "Terrorists formed a base in the house of a local mosque holy man near the school," he said.

He also claimed that running a large organization like the TTP and having sufficient funds for its sustenance was not possible without international funding.

Police one step closer to securing custody of Uzair Baloch
[DAWN] The case regarding handing over of the Lyari
...one of the eighteen constituent towns of the city of Karachi. It is the smallest town by area in the city but also the most densely populated. Lyari has few schools, substandard hospitals, a poor water system, limited infrastructure, and broken roads. It is a stronghold of ruling Pakistan Peoples Party. Ubiquitous gang activity and a thriving narcotics industry make Lyari one of the most disturbed places in Karachi, which is really saying a lot....
gang war's prime suspect, Uzair Baloch took a new turn on Thursday as Interpol asked Pak security officials to appear before the Dubai court to seek his custody.

The team of security officials, which is currently in Dubai to take Baloch into custody, met Interpol officials and provided them details related to all the cases registered against Peoples Aman Committee's (PAC) leader.

The Interpol officials then requested the police team from Pakistain to appear before the court where it will be decided whether to hand over Uzair Baloch to Pak authorities or not. Officials at the Pak embassy are reportedly in constant contact with authorities in Dubai to ensure the handover takes place.

The PAC, lead by Uzair Baloch, has been blamed for its criminal activities which included killings, extortion and drugs business -- both by police and rival parties of the PPP.

Uzair was tossed in the slammer

by Interpol in December last year and brought to Dubai. Some coppers had claimed that Uzair would be extradited to Pakistain within 30 days.

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
from earning on oil sales and ransom by sanctioning people, groups that trade with terror organizations.

The UN Security Council is set on Thursday to adopt a resolution aimed at choking off millions of dollars in earnings from oil sales, antiquities trafficking and ransom payments to ISIS.

Russia drafted the first outline of the measure, which reaffirms the council's resolve to confront the threat posed by the jihadis who overran parts of Syria and Iraq nearly a year ago.

The resolution calls for sanctions against individuals and entities that trade in oil with ISIS and Al-Qaeda affiliates such as the Nusra Front in Syria.

The measure urges all 193 countries of the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
to take "appropriate steps" to prevent the trade in cultural property from Iraq and Syria and directs the UN cultural agency UNESCO to help put in place a ban.

It also reminds governments worldwide that they must "prevent bully boyz from benefiting directly or indirectly from ransom payments for from political concessions" to secure the release of hostages.

That provision was directed at European governments which have found ways to circumvent the ban on paying ransoms to win the release of captive nationals.

The resolution builds on other measures adopted by the council to clamp down on ISIS revenue streams and combines them into a single effort to hit at jihadi financing.

Drafted under chapter seven of the UN charter, the resolution can be enforced through sanctions or use of force, even though it does not authorize military force.

Iraq's ambassador to the United Nations, Mohammed Ali Alhakim, said the fall of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
to ISIS fighters last year had generated a revenue boon for the Islamists from the looting of art and archeological treasures.

"Mosul is a historic city, the University of Mosul is one of the oldest. It has art and treasures and these were all stolen," said Alhakim.

"They are not only looting, they are chopping down walls" of ancient buildings, he told AFP.

The UN measure has the potential to upset links between the jihadis and organized crime rings operating in eastern Europe, Turkey and Jordan, he said.

The Iraqi envoy said the resolution spells out measures to combat ISIS financing on several fronts and obliges all countries to report on the measures they are taking within 120 days.

A report by the UN's al-Qaeda monitoring team released in November estimated that the jihadis earn $850,000 to $1.65 million per day from oil sales.

US officials however now say that oil is no longer the main source of revenue for ISIS.

The resolution would put fresh pressure on Turkey, seen as a transit point for oil deliveries, with trucks often returning to Iraq or Syria with refined products.

The council in August adopted a resolution to cut off sources of financing and the flow of imported muscle to Iraq and Syria, warning countries that do trade in oil with the Islamists they could face sanctions.

Since then, the flow of foreign jihadis has increased with more than 20,000 volunteers from all over the world joining ISIS and other bad boy groups, US officials said this week.

The resolution comes before the council after President Barack Obama
I inhaled. That was the point...
asked Congress to grant him war powers against ISIS and after Jordan stepped up its role in the U.S.-led coalition in response to the gruesome murder of one of its pilots at the hands of the jihadis.

Corrie family loses Supreme Court appeal over daughter’s death
[IsraelTimes] Court upholds ruling exempting army from paying damages since death ocurred in a war zone
Booyah! St. Pancake gets what she deserves!
Israel's Supreme Court upheld a lower court decision on civil damages in the case of US peace activist Rachel Corrie
...aka Saint Pancake. A member of the lefty International Solidarity Movement, she attempted to stare down an Israeli bulldozer in 2003...
, who was killed in the West Bank in 2003 by a military bulldozer.

The high court on Thursday upheld a ruling by the Haifa District Court exempting Israel from paying civil damages for wrongful death to Corrie's family since the incident occurred in a war zone.

Corrie, 23, a pro-Paleostinian activist from Olympia, Washington, was wearing an orange vest and attempting to stop a bulldozer from demolishing a Paleostinian home in Rafah in the Gazoo Strip when she was killed. The army said that the area where the incident occurred was named a closed military zone; the claim has been disputed.

An Israeli army investigation following Corrie's death found that the driver of the bulldozer could not see Corrie and did not intentionally run over her. The report accused Corrie and the pro-Paleostinian International Solidarity Movement of "illegal, irresponsible and dangerous" behavior.

Witnesses say that Corrie was clearly visible and that activists shouted for the bulldozer to stop before it hit the college student.

The Supreme Court on Thursday reversed a separate lower court decision, however, on the possible mishandling of the autopsy on Corrie's body, which will require further investigation by the court into the autopsy and the possible misplacement of some of Corrie's remains.

The Corries lost a lawsuit against Caterpillar Inc., the US company that manufactured the bulldozer that killed their daughter.

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, Bossy was furiously chewing her cud and thinking...
The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
reported Wednesday that the one-woman play "My Name is Rachel Corrie," based on the activist's journal writings, will be staged Off-Broadway in April at the Culture Project's Lynn Redgrave Theater in the East Village. The play was last performed in New York a decade ago amid great controversy in the theater and Jewish communities.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran commander Suleimani says Islamic State on the wane
[IsraelTimes] In rare public remarks, Quds Force head says terror group on the way out, touts Tehran's rising influence in region

An influential Iranian general who has reportedly been near the front line against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group was quoted Thursday saying the jihadists are "nearing the end of their lives".

General Qassem Suleimani, the once rarely seen commander of the powerful Quds Force, has become the public face of Iran's support for the Iraqi and Syrian governments against jihadists.

He has frequently been pictured on social media in Iraq with pro-government forces, including Kurdish fighters and Shiite militia units in battle areas.

"Considering the heavy defeats suffered by Daesh and other terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria, we are certain these groups are nearing the end of their lives," Suleimani was quoted as saying by the semi-official Fars news agency, using an Arabic acronym for IS.

His rare published remarks came in a speech made Wednesday in his home province Kerman to mark the 36th anniversary of Iran's Islamic revolution.

Suleimani also said Tehran's regional influence was growing.

"Today we see signs of the Islamic revolution being exported throughout the region, from Bahrain to Iraq and from Syria to Yemen and North Africa," he said.

"The arrogants and Zionists have admitted, more than before, to their own weakness and to the Islamic Theocratic Republic's power, following their successive defeats," he said.

Iranian officials often use the term "arrogants" to refer to the United States and other Western powers, while Zionists is used in Tehran to refer to Israel without acknowledging its existence as a state.

IS has seized control of large parts of Syria and Iraq, declaring an Islamic "caliphate" and committing widespread atrocities.

Suleimani reportedly landed in Baghdad hours after IS overran djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
in June and led the anti-jihadist counter-attack at the head of Iran's deep military involvement in Iraq.

He is also helping set up a joint Iranian Hezbollah unit to launch attacks on Israel from the Syrian Golan Heights, according to Israel's Channel 2 news.

His remarks came as Hezbollah, Iran's Lebanese proxy, launched a major offensive in the Syrian Golan to retake key areas from rebel forces.

The Quds Force -- the foreign wing of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards -- conducts sensitive security functions abroad, including intelligence, special operations and political action deemed necessary to protect the Islamic republic.

My mind drifts back to the British Project Manager of the Blue Mountain local-national guard force at the US Embassy annex at Benghazi. Perhaps this chap's departure, a week or two prior to the Benghazi attack, was the result of his own unheeded indications and warnings.

Terror Networks
Islamic State: Smoking will kill you, one way or another
[LATIMES] Beheadings have become commonplace in the territories held by the militant Islamic State, but the severed head reportedly found last month in the eastern Syrian city of Al-Mayadeen was nevertheless unusual.

It had a cigarette placed between its lips.
Smoker's cough was obviously no longer an issue.
"This is not permissible, Sheikh,â€" someone had scrawled in Arabic on the decapitated corpse lying nearby, according to an account from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a pro-opposition monitoring group. The body and head belonged to an Islamic State official, a deputy police chief.

From consuming alcohol to cursing, vices of all types are frowned upon by Islamic State.

But it is the militants' injunction on smoking, in a region rife with chain-smokers and water-pipe aficionados, that may be the hardest habit to kick. (About half of Syrian men and one in 10 women smoke, according to the World Health Organization.)

Shortly after the group's takeover of large swaths of Deir Elzur province in eastern Syria, Islamic State began to close tobacco shops and shutter the ubiquitous water-pipe cafes.

Although smoking is allowed under Islam, some ultraconservative variations of Sharia law condemn the practice as a slow form of suicide, and therefore haram -- forbidden.'

ISIS: Widow of Paris gunman in Islamic State territory

magazine runs interview with women thought to be Hayat Boumeddiene, partner of Gay Paree kosher supermarket shooter Amedy Coulibaly.

A magazine run by the Islamic State organization has published an interview with the French widow of a Gay Paree hostage taker, its first official claim that Hayat Boumeddiene is in their territory, which spans parts of Syria and Iraq.

La Belle France launched a search for the 26-year-old after police stormed a Jewish supermarket where her partner Amedy Coulibaly had taken hostages, four of whom were killed along with Coulibaly. Authorities described her as armed and dangerous.

Wednesday's edition of Islamic State's online French-language magazine, Dar al-Islam, ran an edition on the attacks in Gay Paree and included an interview with a woman who it said was Coulibaly's wife, although her name was not given.

Rooters could not immediately verify the authenticity of the interview, which provided no photos or videos of Boumeddiene.

The new issue of Dar al Islam magazine, entitled "May Allah Curse La Belle France", featured a picture of the Eiffel Tower being guarded by French forces and showed images of the aftermath of the Gay Paree attacks.

Asked how she felt when she entered the 'caliphate', the term Islamic State uses for the territory it controls, she was quoted as saying: "I did not encounter any difficulties (getting here), it is good to live in the land that is governed by the laws of God."

She also said her husband had been an Islamic State supporter; Coulibaly himself had said he was carrying out the attack in the name of Islamic State.

Seventeen people, including journalists and coppers, were killed in three days of violence that began with the storming of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
on Wednesday, Jan. 7, and ended with the hostage-taking at a kosher supermarket. Two other gunnies were killed.

Turkish officials said last month that Boumedienne had been in Turkey five days before the shootout, and crossed into Syria on Jan. 8.

An official French police photograph shows Boumeddiene as a young woman with long dark hair hitched back over her ears.

French media released photos purporting to be of a fully-veiled Boumeddiene, posing with a crossbow, in what they said was a training session in 2010 in the mountainous Cantal region.

French media described her as one of seven children whose mother had died when she was young, and whose delivery-man father had struggled to keep working while looking after the family.

As an adult, she lost her job as a cashier when she converted to Islam and started wearing the niqab, the Moslem facial veil.
