Defence minister rejected as Taliban battle near Kabul
[IN.REUTERS] Afghanistan's parliament rejected a second nominee for defence minister on Saturday, leaving a vacuum that has already lasted nine months, while government forces battled the Taliban just 30 miles west of the capital Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
The president's failure to nominate a full cabinet since he took office in September has sown great discontent among Afghans and Saturday's vote was seen as a test of his government's influence over parliament.

As the Afghan army remained without politicianship on Wednesday, Talibs were fighting the government for check points in Wardak province, some 30 miles (50 km) west of the capital, the governor's office said in a statement.

At least 24 members of the police were killed in the two-day battle, it said, and fighting was ongoing.

Security has tanked across the country and many blame the government, for squabbling over key security posts at a time when U.S. military support is severely limited.

U.S. Senator John Maverick McCain
... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution...
of Arizona, visiting Kabul on Saturday, told news hounds that Taliban attacks had increased and U.S. troops should stay longer than planned to prevent the Death Eaters from making gains.

There are around 9,800 U.S. troops left in Afghanistan, down from a peak of around 100,000 in 2011. The majority are training Afghan forces, but a contingent of several thousand are still engaged in combat.

Senator McCain Criticizes Obama's Afghan Strategy
[Tolo News] U.S. Senator and former presidential candidate John Maverick McCain
... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution...
arrived in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
on Saturday openly criticizing the Barack B.O. regime's handling of the U.S. withdraw from Afghanistan.

At a presser on Saturday, the senior Republican Senator said that President B.O. has a weak understanding of the timeframe set for U.S. forces to withdraw from Afghanistan. He criticized the idea of a "deadline" for troops to withdraw, echoing comments that have been made by independent analysts in the wake of the Iraq war and that country's subsequent deterioration.

"I think the most serious mistake that the United States could make - in a betrayal of the brave Americans who have served here and the brave Afghans who serve and have continued to sacrifice - would be to have a calendar based withdraw," Mr. McCain told news hounds on Saturday. "That would be a tragedy, and, in my view, a door opening for the Taliban to gain great success here in Afghanistan, and I don't believe that the people of Afghanistan want a return to Taliban governance," he added.

The American senator, who ran against Obama in the 2008 presidential election in the United States, said the withdraw of U.S. troops should be based on conditions on the ground and on the best advice of military commanders.

McCain also said that the American people would welcome the peaceful deployment of more troops in Afghanistan. "What I think is very important is for us to determine the objectives of our involvement in Afghanistan and then assess what the requirements are to achieve those objectives and develop a strategy rather than just setting a calendar based withdraw," he said.

NUG Leaders Accuse Security Officials of Negligence in Wake of Jalrez Battle
[Tolo News] While honoring coppers killed in festivities with the Taliban in Jalrez district of Maidan Wardak province, a number of national unity government leaders voiced strong criticism against security officials for failing to provide adequate support for the local forces.

Over 20 local coppers were killed in the Jalrez clash. The ceremony on Saturday saw 12 of their bodies moved into Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
to honor their sacrifice and receive a formal funeral.

Mohammad Muhaqiq, the Second Deputy of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah
... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
, spoke at the ceremony and said the ministries of defense and interior should be forced to explain for their negligence in dealing with the Jalrez festivities.

"Both the Taliban and the residents witnessed the incident; the public protection forces waited for their deaths for 20 hours," Muhaqiq said on Saturday. "When I asked them why you don't go further, they replied that the area was full of mines. But, when the check posts were retaken, a tank went to the end of the area and no one was killed by mines."

Meanwhile,
...back at the fist fight, Jake ducked another roundhouse, then parried with his left, then with his right, finally with his chin...
Sarwar Danish, the Second Vice President of President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
, echoed Muhaqiq's sentiment, saying that those who have remained reluctant regarding the Jalrez battle should be exposed.

Former Vice President Karim Khalili also blamed the large amount of casualties on mismanagement by security officials. "Most of the casualties are because of inattention and irresponsible attempts by the relevant organizations and lack of coordination among security agencies," he said. "This is not acceptable to us."

Abdullah, whose relative named Reza was also among the soldiers killed, told TOLOnews that Reza was in contact with him in the last moments of his life. Reza allegedly asked Abdullah repeatedly to deliver his pleas for backup to top security officials in order to save lives.

"He told me repeatedly to call the leaders to support them, and we called several officials, but they did not pay attention, despite that there was an army and public protection force base near them," Abdullah said.

Local accounts of the Jalrez battle have substantiated the claims made by leaders at the ceremony on Saturday. Azizullah, a resident of Maidan Wardak who lost his brother in the battle, says the fighting raged on for 72 hours, and only ended once the coppers ran out of ammunition. "The Taliban, after killing my brother, tied his body behind a vehicle and pulled him on rocks and dust," Azizullah told TOLOnews.

It is said that one of the fallen officers is from the Chindawol area of Kabul, while the others are all from Bamyan province.

Al-Sisi visits Sinai as military releases strike footage
[YNETNEWS] Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi travelled to the troubled northern part of the Sinai Peninsula to inspect troops on Saturday, after Islamic State-linked militants struck a blow against the military this week in a coordinated assault.

Al-Sisi said the events of the last few days in the peninsula were preplanned and organized, hinting at the existence of a conspiracy within and without Egypt. The president, who also commands the armed forces, said the purpose of the latest attacks was to create a misleading picture of an unstable, insecure Egypt.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian military released footage of airstrikes on militants in the wake of the terror attacks.

According to al-Sisi, military forces in the Sinai constitute no more than one percent of all troops deployed throughout Egypt. "No one can shake the Egyptian people's will or influence its decision to be rid of religious fascism," said al-Sisi, who claimed that his forces were prepared in advance for the current wave of terror.

Tunisian President declares emergency: New terror attack would cause 'collapse'
[CNN] Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi on Saturday declared a 30-day state of emergency, saying another attack such as last week's terrorist massacre at a beach hotel would "cause the country to collapse."
"Collapse" means it would look something like Libya.
The declaration gives the military and police more authority to combat terrorism and places restrictions on such rights as public assembly. Essebsi pledged to respect freedom of expression.

In a televised address to the nation, the President mentioned the terror group ISIS by name and declared Tunisia at war with extremism.

"Tunisia faces a very serious danger and it should take any possible measures to maintain security and safety," he said.

The decision comes in response to the June 26 attack in which a gunman shot up the beachfront Hotel Riu Imperial Marhaba in the coastal city of Sousse. At least 38 more were killed in the attack, for which ISIS has grabbed credit.

India funded militants in Kashmir to counter ISI, says ex-RAW chief
[DAWN] In a startling admission, former chief of India's premier intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) Amarjit Singh Dulat said Indian intelligence agencies over the years often paid bandidos forces of Evil and separatists along with mainstream politicians and political parties in India-held Kashmire to compete for influence with Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
(ISI).

In an interview with NDTV's high-profile TV anchor Barkha Dutt ahead of the launch of his book, 'Kashmire: The Vajpayee Years', Dulat asked: "So what's wrong? What is there to be so shocked or scandalised by. It's done the world over."

He defended the use of money in India-held Kashmire, saying it was done in the hope of engaging bandidos forces of Evil and separatists.

"Corrupting someone with money is more ethical and smarter than killing him."

Speaking about his controversial memoir, Dulat divulged that the Indian government had on quite a few occasions paid for air fares, medical treatment and general upkeep of pro-Pakistain separatists like Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

Rangers have turned Sindh into an occupied province: Altaf
[DAWN] Criticising the ongoing targeted operation in Bloody Karachi

(MQM) chief Altaf Hussain

on Saturday alleged that the Rangers had turned Sindh into what he called an "occupied province", a blurb on the party's website said.

"Sindh is burning and MQM workers are being treated like prisoners of war," said the MQM chief, adding that that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah's attitude in this regard had been irresponsible. He further lamented that Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari's dealings with the MQM had taken a disappointing turn.

He said the PPP leadership's attitude was reflective of the fact that it did not care about the residents of the province.

The blurb also said that Altaf had called Asif Ali Zardari and Qaim Ali Shah to discuss the role of Rangers in Sindh but was unable to establish contact with them despite several attempts.

Preliminary phase of Shawal operation successful: army
[DAWN] The army said on Friday it had successfully completed the preliminary phase of the operation in Shawal and it was now dominating all peaks around the valley in North Wazoo, ahead of the final push to flush out snuffies from their last redoubt near the Afghan border.

The statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations came the day it was announced that 200 displaced families were returning to Mirali. In the second phase of the repatriation, 414 families of the Edak tribe have so far returned to Mirali sub-district. The families were escorted by army troops.

The Fata Disaster Management Authority said the process of repatriation would continue during the month of Ramazan. The Edak tribe was the last to leave North Waziristan and is the first to return.

"We are now ready to move in," a security bigshot said, adding: "We are now dominating all the mountain ridges around Shawal. This will be the last phase of Operation Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
."

The military which remained stuck in Dattakhel, 55km west of North Waziristan's regional headquarters of Miranshah
... headquarters of al-Qaeda in Pakistain and likely location of Ayman al-Zawahiri. The Haqqani network has established a ministate in centered on the town with courts, tax offices and lots of madrassas...
, has gained ground and moved closer to the thickly-forested valley.

Like Tirah, this will be the first time troops will be moving into Shawal, an area infested with local and foreign snuffies who have fled from Miranshah and Mirali.

According to ISPR, Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif visited combat areas in North Waziristan on Friday and commended professionalism, sacrifices and high morale of troops who had taken part in the first round of Shawal operation.

The military earlier announced that it had successfully completed the Operation Khyber-II, flushing out both local and foreign snuffies from Khyber Agency, adjacent to Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
, and securing important positions.

According to ISPR, Gen Raheel was briefed by the formation commander on the progress of Zarb-e-Azb and future plans to cleanse the remaining pockets in Shawal of terrorists.

Zarb-e-Azb was launched in June last year and the army claimed that 90 per cent area of the troubled tribal region had been cleared. The repatriation of internally displaced persons to the cleared areas is under way.

The army chief praised the special integrated teams which had carried out intelligence-based operations in urban areas and severed the links between terrorists' sanctuaries in remote areas and their sleeper cells in cities and directed that these operations be continued to apprehend all forces of Evil and their controllers and financiers without any discrimination and irrespective of the cost.

"We will not stop unless we achieve our end objective of a terror-free Pakistain," the ISPR quoted Gen Raheel as saying.

fighters would soon be driven from the northern city, saying details of the operation would be broadcast on a new radio station.

The city has been under Islamic State control since the Islamist Death Eaters took over in June last year, sweeping through most of Iraq's Sunni Moslem provinces towards Baghdad.

The Shi'ite-led government has promised a military offensive to retake Mosul but progress has been slow, in part because of Islamic State gains elsewhere. In May, they drove the army out of the city of Ramadi, capital of the western province of Anbar.

"The solution, with God's help, is close," said the leaflets, which were issued in the name of the Iraqi army and were dropped over Mosul on Friday. "Your armed forces are at the gate, cooperate with them."

Hamas Denies Claim it Supported Sinai Attacks: "Propaganda"
[ALMANAR.LB] Paleostinian Islamist Movement - Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, dismissed on Friday the Zionist claim that it provided support for the attacks against Egyptian soldiers in Sinai as "propaganda."

KRG mulls impact of sending Peshmerga to Rojava
[RUDAW.NET] Recent ISIS attacks in the Kobani and Hasaka, in Syria's ethnically Kurdish region of Rojava, have deeply affected the political and military decisions of the Kurdistan Regional Government.

Peshmera forces say they are ready to go to Rojava to offer military and logistical help to the Kurdish fighters who are battling ISIS there.

President Masoud Barzani has announced that if the situation requires Peshmerga forces, they will be send to Hasaka and nearby areas to fight the terrorists.

Although, sending Peshmerga to Rojava would have political ramifications in the region, the Kurdish forces do not need the consent of neighboring countries.

Experts believe the forces can simply enter Rojava from Iraqi Kurdistan.

Kuwaiti political analyst: Arab states willing to assist Kurdish Peshmarga forces
[RUDAW.NET] Adil al-Manna, a Kuwaiti political analyst and journalist, said that many countries in the world are ready to assist the Peshmarga forces.

Al-Manna told Rudaw that, "There is a possibility that the Arab states will assist the Peshmarga forces militarily and financially, because extremism does not only threaten Syria and Iraq, but the entire world. We all have a responsibility to fight against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (ISIS). We all must work to prevent this organization from exporting terrorism to other countries and the neighbors of Iraq and Syria."

Regarding direct assistance from the Arab states to the Peshmarga forces, al-Manna said, "This issue is being discussed among the governments of the Arab Gulf states, and I believe all the Gulf States are willing to support the Peshmarga because they have very good ties with the Kurdistan Region. ISIS is a common threat and the Gulf States are looking for a way to support those who fight against it."

Al-Manna also said, "The Kingdom of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...

Front, al-Qaeda, Ansar al-Sharia

There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...
, and many other organizations. Now there is also the fight against ISIS, everyone needs the Peshmarga forces as we saw what happened in Shangal and Kobani. The Kurdish forces were able to hold their ground against ISIS and stop their advances."

The Kuwaiti analyst also talked about the importance of the visit by the President of Kurdistan Region to the Arab Gulf States, "The visit by the President of Kurdistan Region was influential, because the President Barzani is a respected leader among the Arab Gulf States. We all share and feel the suffering of Kurdistan Region. We know about the stability that emerged in Kurdistan Region after forcing the Iraqi army to retreat from Kuwait and the collapse of Saddam's regime. The visit of Barzani had a positive impact, especially for the fact that Kurdistan Region is sheltering hundreds of thousands refugees."

Regarding the question of an independent Kurdish state, al-Manna said, "Frankly speaking, the Arab States do not support an independent Kurdish state, because the majority of the Kurds live in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and Iran. Also Iran will never allow the formation of such a state. An international decision in this regard might become more influential for supporting a Kurdish state."

#1  Ah!

So the Arab League or whatever they call themselves are willing to swap a Kurdish national state in exchange for the Kurds doing the dirty work in fighting ISIS?

I guess the rich Arabs realize their armies are all hat and no ranch and are looking for a good proxy to put an end to this beast they created that is off the leash and biting their creators' hands.

#2  Ali bin Sulkin allowed that the Mighty Pak Army has been something of a disappointment.

Bangladeshi family 'safer than ever with IS'
[Dhaka Tribune] A UK family of 12 who went missing have joined so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
and are "safer than ever", according to a statement said to be on their behalf.

The statement, purportedly sent by a member of IS, said it was "outrageous" to suggest the family had been kidnapped and forced to join the group.

It called on all Moslems to join them and "hasten to the obedience of Allah".

The family from Luton has not been seen since 17 May and includes three children aged between one and 11.

Police have previously said they may have travelled to Syria.

The BBC has not been able to independently verify if the statement, which includes two photos purportedly of family member Muhammed Abdul Mannan, is genuine.

The missing family is:

- Muhammed Abdul Mannan, 75, and his wife Minera Khatun, 53

- Their daughter Rajia Khanom, 21, and sons Mohammed Zayd Hussain, 25, Mohammed Toufique Hussain, 19, Mohammed Abil Kashem Saker, 31, and his wife Sheida Khanam, 27

- Mohammed Saleh Hussain, 26, and his wife Roshanara Begum, 24, along with three children, aged between one and 11

The statement, passed to the BBC by a Briton fighting with IS, said the family had arrived in a land that was "free from corruption and oppression" and had not been "commanded" to join by a single person but by the "Khalifah of the Moslems".

It said: "We say to those that are concerned for our safety to put your hearts at rest for we feel safer than we have ever felt before.

"We call all Moslems to rush to the command of your Khalif. Race to your state. Race to what will give you honour in this life and the hereafter."

The Islamic State group has seized large swathes of Iraq and Syria since last June, becoming notorious for its brutality, including mass killings, abductions and beheadings.

On 29 June 2014 it announced the formation of a caliphate - a state governed in accordance with Islamic law or Sharia, by God's deputy on Earth, or caliph.

The family was reported missing to police by two sons, understood to be Mr Mannan's from a previous marriage, who live in Luton.

The family flew to Bangladesh on 10 April, police said, and then to Istanbul on 11 May.

They were due back at Heathrow three days later but failed to return.

It is believed Ms Khanom had links to banned Islamist group al-Muhajiroun
...formerly Omar Bakri Muhammad's spin off group from Hizb ut-Tahrir in Britain, where the detestable lunatic Anjem Chaudry got his start. More recently the name adopted by al-Qaeda in East Africa for operations in Kenya and Tanzania. It is subordinate to al-Shabaab but will probably be strong enough to fly on its own, given an uninterrupted flow of petrodollars, should the Shaboobs collapse....
, which had members in Luton.

It comes after three sisters reportedly travelled to Syria with their nine children.

Sisters Khadija, Sugra and Zohra Dawood and their children went missing on 9 June, and an IS smuggler has since told the BBC they have reached Syria.
