Pakistan Trying To Exploit Taliban: Olomi
[Tolo News] Afghan Interior Minister Noorulhaq Olomi said on Wednesday while visiting families of martyred coppers that the current rift within the Taliban is as a result of Pakistain's interference.

The interior minister said that Pakistain had tried to enforce its choice of Taliban leader on the group and that it is exploiting the holy warriors for its own purposes.

"The intervention among Taliban's new leadership is because of Pakistain intervention, because Pakistain statesmen want those people to be Taliban's leader so that Pakistain can exploit them for their own purpose in the future and act on Pakistain's order," said Olomi.

The minister said he believes that solving the current issues in the country through war is difficult and emphasized that apart from fighting holy warriors the government is keeping the doors open for peace negotiations.

"Maybe we could not reach peace through war but beside war continuation against the bandidos holy warriors we will keep open doors of peace negotiations so those who are in favor of peace and the constitution of Afghanistan can join the government," Olomi added.

Meanwhile,
...back at the laboratory, Igor and Oleg were discussing what the quickest way might be to deal with the monster...
families of martyred soldiers have appealed to government for assistance.

"Our demand is that the government should give land to the families of victims and help with their children's education," said Adib Shah the brother of a dead soldier.

In addition, one of the demands on the national unity government is to clear its stance against Pakistain.

"This is a good opportunity that Afghanistan and the international community present enough documents and evidence to Pakistain and convince Pakistain to stop intervening in Afghanistan," said.

Afghan officials have repeatedly accused Pakistain of supporting the Taliban and of launching deadly attacks against Afghanistan.

But this issue is expected to be raised within the next few days during the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
' General Assembly where it is believed Afghanistan will appeal to the council to intervene against Pakistain's intelligence service.

Misrata frees Qaddafi soldiers
[Libya Herald] At least 45 Qadaffy soldiers held in Misrata were freed today. One report put the number at 60. All are Libyan and were regular army soldiers who had fught aganst the revolution, not mercenaries. Some had been held for as long as four years, other were said to have been captured more recently although the circumstances have not been divulged.

All were being held at the military cop shoppe in the city's Seket district. Their release was ordered by Colonel Sharif Arhuma, the military police chief for the central area (from Sirte to Khoms).

The soldiers' freedom, coinciding with Eid, is another sign of Misrata's efforts at reconciliation with its former opponents.

Just before Eid Ak-Fitr, Arhuma freed 40 prisoners who he said "had proved their innocence".

There have been a number of other prisoner releases.

At the beginning of July, Misrata Municipal Council ordered investigations be carried out into the cases of all prisoners languishing in jails in the city without trial. The aim it said was to get them released as soon as possible.

The UN-brokered Libya Dialogue agreement which Misrata supports contains a commitment to end the illegal detention of prisoners. That includes prisoners held in militia and non-official jails.

Arabia
1,300, including 125 Iranians, killed in crush during Hajj in Mecca: Iran
[Iran Press TV] The head of Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization says at least 1,300 people have been killed in a crush during Hajj pilgrimage rituals outside Mecca.

Sa’eed Ohadi said on Thursday that at least 125 Iranian nationals were among those killed in the fatal stampede.

He added that the overall death toll is expected to exceed 1,500.

This as Saudi authorities say at least 717 people have been killed and nearly 863 others injured in the crush.

According to Saudi disaster officials, the incident occurred in Mina, near Mecca, at 9 am local time (0600 GMT) after two large masses of pilgrims coming down streets 204 and 223 fused together.

The incident took place as people were heading to participate in the symbolic stoning of Satan.

Over 220 ambulances and 4,000 rescue workers have reportedly been sent to the location.

“Work is underway to separate large groups of people and direct pilgrims to alternative routes,” the Saudi Civil Defense said.

During a meeting with senior officials responsible for the pilgrimage in Mina, Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, who heads the Saudi hajj committee, ordered an investigation into the deadly stampede.

Saudi blames pilgrims for tragedy

Saudi Arabia's health minister blamed the pilgrims for the deadly incident, saying the tragedy would not have happened if they "had followed instructions."

"Many pilgrims move without respecting the timetables" established by authorities, Khaled al-Falih said, adding that this is the "principal reason for this type of accident," El-Ekhbariya television reported.

"If the pilgrims had followed instructions, this type of accident could have been avoided," he said.

‘Saudi authorities responsible’

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs, said the Iranian Embassy in Saudi Arabia, the Consulate and all other relevant organizations are actively working to determine the fate of the Iranian victims of the Thursday incident.

Amir-Abdollahian held the Saudi authorities responsible for the deadly incident, and said they should promptly act to manage the crisis.

“The imprudence on the part of relevant Saudi authorities to provide security for the pilgrims cannot be overlooked,” he said.

Amir-Abdollahian said the Saudi charge d'affaires has been summoned to the foreign ministry in Tehran over the fatal incident.

He added that a special commission has been set up by the Islamic Republic to follow up on the case of the Iranian pilgrims in Mina.

#6  As of 1030 AM Guam time, CNN AM this rainy day was repor 717 dead.

I checked my usual news sources plus Saudi Arabia's Arab News, and they all have not updated from 717 dead, JosephM. Given the 800+ number of injured connected with that number, however, an increase of those dying is conceivable, reinforced by an Arab News article dated today that reports the authorities are clearing tents to allow ambulances better access to stampede site.

I just have no idea how probable the Iranian number is, or whether they simply made it up.

China-Japan-Koreas
Women's veils a sign of backwardness in Xinjiang: Officials
[DAWN] The custom of women wearing face veils is not a tradition of minority people in China's western area of Xinjiang or in any Moslem country, but is a symbol of extremism and backwardness instead, a senior regional official said on Thursday.

Energy-rich Xinjiang, visited this week by British finance minister George Osborne on a rare trip by a Western official, is strategically located on the borders of Central Asia.

China has great plans for the region in its new Silk Road strategy.

The government has stepped up curbs on religious clothing in the heavily Moslem area, where it blames Islamist separatists for violence that has killed hundreds of people over the past few years.

Many Xinjiang experts say the outlawing of veils and strict enforcement of the rules could further stigmatise the region's Uighurs, who speak a Turkic language and call the region home.

Last year, Karamay, a northwestern city in Xinjiang, banned people wearing head scarves, veils or long beards from boarding buses.

Authorities in Xinjiang's capital of Urumqi have also banned the wearing of Islamic veils in public.

In unusually strong comments, Xaukat Emen, a member of the Xinjiang Communist Party standing committee, said face veils and other coverings for women were "typical bad boy attire" and had nothing to do with Xinjiang, or Arab or Moslem countries.

"A people who totally cover both their eyes are certainly a backward people. We Uighurs do not want to see our female comrades wear this type of clothing," he told a news conference in Beijing.

"Many women want to work, and many want to have contact with society. So on this issue, we will resolutely not agree." In some cases, men had worn the veil to kidnap children, he added.

The Grand Turk
MHP leader questions the president's conscience
[Hurriyet Daily News] The leader of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's nationalist party has questioned Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
's conscience, adding the families of security personnel killed over the past several months across the country were crying out in vain.

"Does he ever suffer a twinge of conscience while the parents of martyred soldiers face great sorrow every day?" Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli asked news hounds in Ankara on Sept. 24, apparently referring to Erdogan, after performing a feast prayer in a mosque in the capital.

Bahceli criticized that the president has been reiterating his demand for 550 deputies to the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in the Nov. 1 election amid an upsurge in violence ripping through the country's east and southeast, with dozens of security personnel killed in attacks by outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) bully boys.

"He is on the wrong track. Mr. President should know where his statements go. How could he possibly sleep in such an environment of violence when requiems are shouted out to the sky?" Bahceli said, expressing his criticisms against Erdogan.

Bahceli said terrorism was not a problem with Kurds, but was rather an intentional act against the Kurdish citizens of Turkey in particular as well as against all other citizens of the country.

"Fighting against terrorism should continue. It has been figured that terrorism is not a 'Kurdish' problem as some say, but rather an intentional act primarily against Kurdish citizens and all other peoples of Turkey," he said.

Bahceli also stressed the need for a collective mindset to create a harmonious environment in the country.

"A mindset based on collectiveness and inclusiveness should be made up to consolidate an environment for living in harmony in Turkey," he said.

HDP co-chair suggests AKP should use 'May God forgive me' as election slogan
[Hurriyet Daily News] It would be better for the Justice and Development Party (AKP) to use the slogan "Tövbe Estagfurullah" ("May God forgive me") rather than "Bismillah" ("In the name of God") for its upcoming electoral campaign, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtas said on Sept. 24.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's Supreme Election Board (YSK) ruled to ban the AKP's planned campaign jingle for the Nov. 1 snap election, on the grounds that "Bismillah" is a religious term and thus legally cannot be used for electioneering.

Speaking to news hounds, Demirtas touched on the recent resignation of HDP ministers from the interim government, saying it was a "joint decision" and the text of their announcement was drafted together.

"Our party joined the government to show that we are not part of a situation lacking solutions. But the AKP did not endorse anyone else," he stated.

Meanwhile,
...back at the cheese factory, all the pieces finally fell together in Fluffy's mind...
responding to claims that the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) forced locals in some southeastern provinces to vote for the HDP, Demirtas called on citizens to inform the party if anyone is forced to vote for it out of fear.

"Nobody should vote for us out of fear. Nobody should insult the voter. If anyone says they voted in fear, they should tell us so that we can do whatever is necessary," he said.

The HDP co-chair also said the constitutionally impartial President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
should continue his controversial "election campaigning," just as he did before the June 7 election.

"Last time, we defeated both you and the AKP," Demirtas said.

Only solidarity can end terror, says PM Davutoglu in Diyarbakir
[Hurriyet Daily News] Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said only "solidarity" can defeat terrorism, as the country continues to struggle with acts of terror staged by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

"Today I am really happy to see the solidarity and support of the people of Diyarbakir in our struggle against the PKK, because this struggle will only make sense when we come together," Davutoglu said during a Sept. 24 visit to Diyarbakir, the largest city in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's Kurdish-majority southeast.

Railing against the PKK, Davutoglu accused the group of carrying out "cowardly terrorist acts" and "villainous traps" rather than "expressing themselves freely in parliament."

"Today, as a whole nation, we are against those who want to wipe our flag out," he added.

Davutoglu was in Diyarbakir - the scene of several attacks since the PKK renewed its armed campaign in late July - at the start of Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice. He later returned to Ankara before departing for the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

"We will continue to work to relieve the grief of all the mothers and fathers who have lost their children," he said, while adding that the government opposed all discrimination against Kurds.

Along with around 30 civilians, more than 120 members of Turkey's security forces have been killed in PKK attacks over the last two months, according to official figures.

Assad may take part in Syria transition, Erdogan says
[Hurriyet Daily News] Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
has said Bashir al-Assad could take part in the transition process to find a solution in Syria, although he should have place in his country's future.

"Either a transition process without al-Assad, or with al-Assad, is possible. But what is the required is the opposition ... Nobody can foresee Syria's future with al-Assad. It's not possible to accept a person responsible for killing 300,000 to 350,000 people, a dictator," Erdogan said after performing his Eid al-Adha prayer early on Sept. 24 in Istanbul.

Elaborating his discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
on Sept. 23, Erdogan said he "could not see a clear [perspective] in Russia's approach to Syria."

But he also said that the Turkish and Russian foreign ministers would launch a new working group on the Syrian crisis, according to an agreement reached in talks with Putin.

"We have decided to work on this issue at the U.N. General Assembly as a group of three foreign ministers from the U.S., The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and Russia," Erdogan said, adding that Iran and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
could also be involved in the process. With the participation of the EU, Jordan and Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
, efforts for Syria could be extended, the president also said.

Erdogan added that he told Putin that al-Assad's current aim is to declare a "boutique Syria" of 15 percent of the country from Damascus to Latakia, including Homs.

The Turkish president also reiterated Ankara's wish to create a "safe haven" in Syria, which it hopes will be cleared of "terrorist organizations."

#2  I believe Israel would support a truncated Syria led by Assad and whose border would begin in the south at Dara, pass through Damascus, include Homs and Hama and end north of the border at Latakia. The inclusion of Homs and Hama would give the state strategic depth and would serve to protect the Russian base at Tartus. If the West had any sense it would include Syria east of the Euphrates from Tallal-Abyad to Dayr az-Zawr in a Kurdish state carved from both Iraq and Syria.

Afghans accuse Torkham guards of extortion
[DAWN] Afghan nationals, returning to their homeland, have accused the Khasadar and levies personnel at Torkham border of extortion.

They alleged that Khasadar and Levies personnel kept them in illegal detention for several hours if they refused to pay them money. The return of Afghan nationals has gained momentum before Eidul Azha.

Officials also confirmed increase in number of the returning Afghans at the Torkham crossing point.

Basit Ali Mazari, an Afghan national, said that he and his family members were stopped at the Torkham border from crossing over to Afghanistan as the border guards demanded Rs15,000 from him. He said when he refused to pay the amount, his family was forced to stay under the scorching sun which forced him to oblige the border guards.

Saqib Samangani and Mustafa Baghlani also said that they were made to pay Rs20,000 and Rs25,000 respectively as their families were stopped from crossing the border.

Officials at the border, however, denied that any of the Khasadar or Levies men was involved in extortion of returning Afghans. They said that they had already suspended some of the khasadar

They added that the three men were later produced before a court, where they were handed over to police custody on a one-day physical remand.

When contacted, Kohsar police officials said that they were in the process of verifying the arms licence, adding that if it was found to be genuine, charges under the Arms Ordinance would be dropped. However,

Expressing solidarity with the civilians living in bordering villages, the army chief paid rich tributes to their resilience and sacrifices in braving Indian aggression.

He reiterated that Pakistain Army will provide all necessary assistance to civilians affected by such aggression.

Bin Laden had prior knowledge of 2008 Mumbai attacks, reveals new book
[DAWN] the late Osama bin Laden
... who has left the building...
had prior knowledge of the 2008 Mumbai attacks. He wanted to establish an Al Qaeda state in Pakistain following the breakout of full-scale war between the two nuclear armed neighbours.

These revelations were made in the recently published book 'Pakistain's secret war on Al-Qaeda', written by Azaz Syed, an investigative journalist and a former correspondent for DawnNews.

The first chapter in the book reveals the untold story of Khalid Sheikh Muhammed (KSM), a close aide of Osama bin Laden and the criminal mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks. Based on interviews of KSM's Pak controllers and Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
(ISI) officials who were involved in his capture and subsequent interrogation, previously unknown details about KSM's life and activities have come to the forefront.

According to the book, Major General Ehtesham Zameer of the ISI had received a tip off from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) about the expected arrival of a high value target at Islamabad airport. The target was a Saudi financier of the 9/11 attacks, and was tailed by ISI operatives to a house in Rawalpindi. The house in question belonged to one Dr Abdul Qudoos, who had befriended KSM in Germany and Sudan.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israeli cabinet approves tougher punishments for throwing stones, firebombs
[Ynet] Measures include expanding conditions in which police can open fire, mandatory minimum four-year sentences and increased fines on minors' parents.

Stone throwing, which has seen a sharp uptick in recent weeks in Jerusalem, has also become common in the Negev.

Since the beginning of 2014, there have been 130 recorded incidents of stone throwing in the southern region. Wednesday saw police arresting 15 local residents who were suspected of throwing rocks at a police facility in Tel Sheva.

#2  throw a stone:throw a bullet

Bullets were originally invented to be thrown by slings, I've read; guns are just much better slings.

#3  Bullet comes from the French word boulette, little ball, though I'm sure the tool's name predates written language, back to the first thrower who realized a uniform projectile size doesn't drift when thrown, and was worth the time to manipulate a natural item into a uniform shape, allowing a human to cause harm without being within claw and tooth.

15 tons of sulfuric acid intercepted en route to Gaza
[IsraelTimes] Shin Bet, customs agents find substance used in production of explosives, barred from entry to Paleostinian enclave

Israeli border control officials thwarted the attempted smuggling of 15 tons of sulfuric acid to the Gazoo Strip last week.

The acrid smell of the shipment, which was recorded officially as 30 tons of paint thinner, aroused the suspicion of Shin Bet and customs officials at the Nitzana border crossing with Egypt. At least half of the shipment, it turned out, was sulfuric acid.

The truck carrying the shipment was then stopped at the Kerem Shalom crossing, before it could enter the enclave, the authorities said.

Sulfuric acid is banned from import to the Gazoo Strip through Israel. It is a key component in producing explosives such as nitroglycerin and TNT.

According to Channel 2, the quantities seized were sufficient to produce three tons of explosives.

Hamas accuses Egypt of flooding Gaza border
Hamas on Thursday accused Egypt of further besieging the Gaza Strip by flooding the border area to the south of the Palestinian enclave, which is already under an Israeli blockade.

Egypt has been carrying out digging work in the area for several weeks that Palestinians believe is intended to flood the last remaining tunnels between Gaza and the Sinai, where jihadist fighters have been battling Egyptian forces.
Hmm...cause...effect...cause...effect. Nah, not seeing it.
"Why are they digging those trenches and those water pipes around Rafah?" Hamas's chief in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, said during a speech to commemorate the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday.
Still got nuttin'.
Since the ouster of its Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013, Egypt says it has destroyed hundreds of tunnels used to transport militants, merchandise and arms between the Gaza Strip and the Sinai Peninsula.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Warring sides in Syria reach ceasefire deal on 2 villages, border town
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Warring sides in Syria have agreed with U.N. help on a deal to extricate one group of rebel fighters and another group of trapped villagers, sources familiar with the talks said on Thursday.

The deal was reached in talks backed by Iran, which supports the Syrian government, and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, which supports the rebels. With a ceasefire in the areas holding, it offers a rare chance of success for foreign-brokered diplomacy in the intractable conflict.

It also comes as Russia shores up Damascus with increased military support, prompting the United States to talk with its Cold War foe.

Syria's four-year civil war has killed an estimated 250,000 people and driven more than 11 million from their homes.

The agreement includes the withdrawal of rebel fighters holed up in the mostly government-held area near Leb, and the evacuation of civilians from two Shi'ite villages under rebel siege in Idlib province in northwest Syria, the sources said.

The office of U.N. Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura confirmed that there were positive developments in the talks, which were facilitated by the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
, but said it was up to the parties to say if there was a deal to announce.

'Tacit' deal between US, Russia to end Syria war: Assad adviser
[NEWS.YAHOO] Russia and the United States have reached a "tacit agreement" on ending Syria's bloody crisis, a senior adviser to Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Lord of the Baath...
has said.

"The current US administration wants to find a solution to the crisis in Syria. There is a tacit agreement between the US and Russia to reach this solution," Bouthaina Shaaban said in an interview with state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
late Wednesday.

"The US recognises now that Russia has profound knowledge of this region and a better assessment of the situation," she said.

"The current international climate is heading towards detente and towards a solution for the crisis in Syria."

Shaaban said there was a "change in the West's positions" over Syria's war, which has killed more than 240,000 people and displaced millions since 2011.

Russia, a decades-long backer of Syria's regime, has said it would not accept Assad's departure as a prerequisite for launching any grinding of the peace processor in the war-torn country.
