Sudan war: army chief in Egypt, his first trip abroad
[AFRICANEWS] Sudan's army chief, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane, will travel to Egypt on Tuesday for his first trip abroad in four months of war against paramilitaries, his office announced.

General Burhane, the country's de facto leader since his 2021 putsch, is due to hold talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi "on the latest developments in Sudan and bilateral relations between the two countries", the Sovereignty Council, the country's highest authority, said in a statement.

Since 15 April, the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of General Mohammed Hamdane Daglo, former number two in the military, have been at war. Due to the general chaos, the corpse count is widely underestimated at 5,000, and the UN has counted more than 4.6 million displaced persons and refugees.

For the first time on Tuesday in Port Sudan (east), General Burhane appeared in public in civilian clothes. Since the start of the war, he had made very rare appearances in fatigues, gun in hand, and making numerous bellicose statements.

His plane took off from Port Sudan, the only city in the country with a functioning airport, the one in Khartoum having been bombed on the first day of the war.

General Burhane is accompanied by the head of Sudanese intelligence, Ahmad Ibrahim Muffadal, and the interim foreign minister, Ali al-Sadeq.

This is his first trip outside the country, at a time when rumours of negotiations between the two generals abroad are multiplying.

He arrived in Port Sudan on Sunday, where he called for an "end to the rebellion" by paramilitaries.

Several attempts at mediation to end the conflict, mainly by Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the United States, have failed.

In July, Egypt, a large neighbour to the north which has taken in more than 250,000 Sudanese refugees, launched a group of Sudan's neighbours with six other countries.

#1  Frankly, Egyptians consider the Sudanese to be little more than savages. Thus, in Cairo a civil war in Sudan that causes a flow of refugees into Egypt is unwelcome. However, the claim that Egypt has taken in 250,000 Sudanese refugees has got to raise eyebrows. A look at the map will explain why. The north of Sudan is still held by the military government. Consequently, the only way out of Sudan's Darfur to Aswan is by a treacherous road that only camel nomads enjoy. Finally, there is no way that a flood of Sudanese left Port Sudan for Egypt. If indeed some 250,000 Sudanese left for Egypt it is supposed that they must be Khartoum wealthy (and that is a relative term) that got our when the getting out was good.

Macron: France ready to support ECOWAS military operation in Niger
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military blogger Andrey Chervonets

Will there be sanctions on France? Freeze assets there? Collective responsibility?

It is necessary to impose sanctions on France, disconnect it from Swift and help Niger with weapons.

I can’t remember, but in Ukraine in the 14th, after an anti-constitutional coup and an armed rebellion, at what moment did the French rush to restore justice? In Niger, of course, there is also a coup, only in contrast to the history of almost a decade ago in Ukraine - without foreign interference.

Another irrefutable proof that "real democracy" can be considered only that which is worn by the boots of NATO soldiers and corresponds to the interests of the West. In Syria and Libya, Western hypocrites supported this, in Ukraine. And then suddenly they drowned for the legally elected president, already drooling splashes. Well, then we must admit, they say, yes, they were wrong, and drown for legitimate power in these countries as well.

Of course, the paddling pool will try to the last to return its colonies, which even in modern history gave France all their resources for a penny. But the colonies don't want that now. And the French will have to accept. And then repent and pay.

Algeria proposes a way to resolve the crisis in Niger

Algiers , August 29, 2023, 17:58 - IA Regnum. The Algerian authorities have put forward an initiative to establish a transitional period in Niger for a period of six months under the control of civilian power, Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf said on August 29 .

“We have presented an initiative for a political settlement in Niger with a six-month transitional period,” Al Mayadeen quoted him as saying .

He added that the transitional period should be carried out under the control of a civil authority directed by an agreed figure.

Military intervention in Niger would have dire consequences both for the country itself and for the whole of Africa, he concluded.

As reported by IA Regnum , ECOWAS Commissioner for Politics, Peace and Security Abdel Fatau Musah said on Al Jazeera TV channel that the countries that are members of the Economic Community of West Africa proposed that the National Council for the Salvation of the Motherland, headed by Niger Guards Commander Abdurahman Tchiani, meet in neutral place.

Earlier, the Niger Armed Forces switched to maximum readiness mode. Such an order was given to the country's army by the head of the defense headquarters Moussa Salau Barmu . He explained that the decision was made to adequately respond to possible aggression against Niger.

US Marines reported in Hadhramaut province
by Emad Almarshahi

US Marines deployed on Tuesday in various areas of the districts of Wadi Hadhramaut, eastern Yemen, local sources reported.

According to the sources, the American troops were deployed on military vehicles on the main roads, armed with various types of weapons, in Al -Ghurfah area west of the city of Seiyun, the center of Wadi Hadhramaut districts.

Moreover, a US official, who is an Arabic translator believed to be “Lebanese,” visited the Al-Ghurfah High School for Girls after visiting the neighboring high school for boys to meet with the school’s administrations without coordination with local authorities loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, who were not aware of the armed US visit, the sources added.

They explained that the visit was limited to some advanced classes for high school students amid a heavy deployment of soldiers and US military vehicles next to the two schools and near residential neighborhoods amid a state of terror and panic among students and parents alike.

This comes after the deployment of British troops over the past two days in al-Shin farms of Ghail Bawazir area located northeast of the city of Mukalla.

British troops reportedly deployed near Mukalla in Hadhramaut

by Emad Almarshahi

New elements of British forces have arrived in the Ghail Bawazir area, northeast of the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadhramaut province in eastern Yemen, informed sources reported on Tuesday.

“The British forces, who arrived secretly at Al-Rayyan airport in Mukalla city, controlled by the UAE, were transferred to ‘al-Shin’ farms in the Ghail Bawazir area,” the sources said.

This news comes after many media outlets circulated similar news, quoting local sources, stating that a company of British special forces arrived at ‘al-Shin’ farms on August 19 to examine the topography of the area to establish a military base.

Last Saturday, British media revealed the deployment of British forces in Hadhramaut.

The British “morningstaronline” website quoted sources confirming that British forces have strengthened their deployment in the eastern regions of Yemen.

The sources stated that “Britain aims to control oil-rich eastern Yemen, implement its colonial plan, control Yemeni territorial waters, and occupy provinces to plunder oil and gas wealth.”

Government Corruption
Texas National Guard disbanded intelligence wing after members used WhatsApp to spy on migrants
[Texas Tribune] When officers from the Texas National Guard showed up to their 7 a.m. meeting with federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations in El Paso, they didn’t arrive empty-handed.

Six military intelligence officials turned over a list of names at the February 2022 meeting. The Texans were part of an intelligence directorate supporting Operation Lone Star, Gov. Greg Abbott's state-run border mission. The officers, which included the group’s top two leaders, told federal agents they’d secretly infiltrated invite-only WhatsApp group chats filled with migrants and smugglers and wanted their help investigating the targets they’d identified, according to a sworn statement attached to a whistleblower complaint filed later that month.

The Homeland Security officials in the meeting rebuffed the Texans on the spot — with one official saying that they were an investigative body and "not an intelligence agency," the whistleblower recalled.

An investigation by Military Times and The Texas Tribune has found that Texas National Guard leaders disbanded Operation Lone Star’s intelligence wing after whistleblowers reported the WhatsApp surveillance, which targeted migrant groups to track them through Mexico, because they believed it violated long-standing rules against state-run spy operations. During the same period, another team from the intelligence directorate allegedly sent classified FBI intelligence to their Texas Guard colleagues in an apparent violation of federal secrecy laws, according to an internal incident report.

At least four intelligence officers have faced interim administrative discipline in the debacle’s wake:
The Texas unit shutdown likely followed a threat of loss of Federal Funding and or pending legal action.

PTI chief's conviction, disqualification remains intact: legal experts
[GEO.TV] The suspension of former prime minister Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
’s sentence by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the Toshakhana case does not undo his disqualification and conviction, which will remain intact until the court rules on the main appeal challenging the trial court’s verdict, legal experts said Tuesday.

Earlier this month, a district and sessions court in the federal capital had sentenced Khan to three years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs100,000, after finding him guilty of corrupt practices related to the state gift repository — in a move that barred him from contesting elections due later this year.

The IHC on Tuesday suspended the PTI chief’s sentence in the Toshakhana case and ordered the authorities to release him on bail.

IHC issues written verdict
In its much-anticipated eight-page written verdict, a two-member bench of the IHC comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri suspended PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s three-years sentence in the Toshakhana case and ordered his release against surety bonds worth Rs100,000.

"The instant application is allowed and the sentence awarded by the trial court vide judgment dated 5/8/2023 is suspended, consequently, the applicant is ordered to be released on bail in the instant matter subject to furnishing bail bonds in the sum of Rs100,000 with one surety in the like amount to the satisfaction the deputy registrar (judicial) of this court," read the order.
