Africa North
Up to 7,000 Migrants Held in Libya, Says Official
[AnNahar] Thousands of illegal migrants who have tried to reach Europe from conflict-plagued Libya are being held in detention centers in the North African country, an official said on Monday.

Most are Africans intercepted off Libyan shores or inside the country as they prepared to board boats for Europe, Mohammed Abdelsalam al-Kuwiri said.

He said between 5,000 and 7,000 migrants have been held for months in 16 detention centers as Libya struggles to find planes to deport them.

The centers are mainly in the Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
region and in Misrata east of the capital, areas controlled by the powerful Fajr Libya militia alliance.

Kuwiri is in charge of combating illegal migration for the Tripoli-based government set up by Fajr Libya last August amid a power struggle with the internationally recognized administration based in the east.

"Up to 7,000 migrants are held in these detention centers. They are given food, mattresses and medical care," he said.

Last year, before Libya plunged further into chaos with two governments vying for power, authorities were able to deport illegal migrants on flights to their native countries.

But this is no longer the case, added Kuwiri, saying his government lacks the aircraft and does not have the means to deport them.

In 2014, more than 25,000 illegal migrants were repatriated, compared with just 1,651 this year, he said.

"European countries must help us with this burden and cooperate with us to return these migrants to their homes using European planes," Kuwiri said.

The United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
says that more than 110,000 migrants transited Libya in 2014 en route to Europe.

Libya, with a coastline of 1,770 kilometers (more than 1,000 miles), has always been a stepping stone for Africans seeking a better life in Europe, with most heading for Italia.

People smugglers have exploited the chaos gripping Libya since the 2011 uprising toppled strongman Muammar Qadaffy
...whose instability was an inspiration to dictators everywhere, but whose end couldn't possibly happen to them...
to step up their lucrative smuggling business.

On Sunday alone, Libya's coastguard intercepted five boats carrying around 500 mostly African migrants trying to reach Europe, brought them back to shore and bussed them to detention centers around Misrata.

The Italian coastguard said on Sunday that 5,800 migrants were rescued at the weekend as they tried to cross the Mediterranean aboard rickety boats.

On Monday, the German defense ministry said it had deployed two ships to assist a European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
migrant rescue mission beefed up last month with the aim of preventing deadly disasters at sea.

In April, more than 750 people drowned in the Mediterranean's worst maritime disaster in decades. Just 26 men and two crew survived when their boat capsized.

Arabia
75 percent Saudis will be obese by 2020: Study
[ArabNews] Seventy-five percent of Saudi population will be obese by 2020 if no preventive steps are taken, a study has warned.

The research, conducted by Nasser Al-Salem Al-Qahtani, as a Ph.D. thesis at an Australian university, has focused on causes of obesity among intermediate and secondary school students in Riyadh.

According to the findings, obesity has increased by 50.6 percent among teenagers in both rural and urban areas, with urban areas accounting for 59.4 percent and rural 36.9 percent.

The researcher cited a number of factors linked to obesity and over-weight, including the presence of a driver with family, daily consumption of soft drinks, watching TV and using computers and other electronic devices.

The study shows that obesity among children is growing at an alarming rate in the Kingdom, with the figure reaching over 50 percent in 2010 as against 11 percent in 1988.

Nagwa Mousa, a medical expert, warned against the rise in obesity among new generations. Intensive awareness campaigns on risks and side-effects of obesity need to be launched, she said.

She strongly advised that strict control should be observed on the type of food and that daily physical exercises be encouraged among women and kiddies in order to fight obesity.

Obesity problem is plaguing the world, especially developed countries, and experts have advised against limited use of junk food such as burgers and wafers, besides aeriated drinks. Lifestyle is one of the main reasons for obesity

I'm waiting for the reimposition of many tax brackets. Remember the "good" old days when inflation kept pushing the middle-class into higher and higher brackets?

#11  "Your staffing levels may not be decreased without prior approval from the State Dept. of Labor. Your appropriate number of employees and their rate of pay will also be determined for you by the State. #13  Please correct me iff I'm wrong, but AFAIC the US$15.00 SEIU-supported minimum wage is mainly for non-Supervisory or Non-Management Employees, wid Supervisory or Management-level Employees earning higher still than the US$15.00 scale???

* See also DEFENCE.PK/FORUMS + CYBERCAST NEWS SERVICE [CNS] > OBAMA'S "NO GROWTH, NO JOBS, NO RECOVERY" ECONOMY GIVES UP THE GHOST.

The good news is that Ex-UN GenSec KOFI ANNAN says OWG Globalist Amerika should eat bugs ...

* DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND > [Daily Caller] KOFI ANNAN: EAT BUGS TO STOP GLOBAL WARMING.

This is good because iff my old or childhood dreams-visions about GWCC prove true, + usually does, DE SMALL/TINY BUGS NOW = DEVOL INTO BIG B-I-G OR GIANT BUGS/BUG-ZILLAS LATER.

THE ABOVE IS WID SO-CALLED "MINI-ICE AGE",OR WIDOUT = NO "MINI-ICE AGE".

As a general rule, "Better to Eat Them Before They Eat You".

Yuuup.

Brent crude price rises to $67 a barrel
(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – On Monday the price of Brent crude has risen to almost $ 67 a barrel, recouping early losses after the Chinese data had set expectations about taking measures to stimulate the second largest economy in the world.

According to “Reuters”, “Brent crude rose 39 cents to $ 66.85 a barrel at 08:48 GMT.

The world oil prices have seen a significant decline over the past few months, resulting in damage to several countries including Iraq.

#1  The oil industry, with no help (or put more succinctly, with hindrance) from the Obama administration, has built in a tripwire to prevent oil from going as high as it did ever again.

Fracking wells can be restarted in as little as two weeks, inexpensively. As soon as the price gets to about $70.00, the wells can simply be switched on again and any rise in prices will be stopped cold. The oil industry did themselves (and all of us) a favor by defying the alt-energy and environmental extremist supported administration and did the right thing for themselves and for all Americans.

Markets really do work.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Almost half of Israelis support making Victory Day a national holiday
[Jerusalem Post] Almost of half of Israelis polled have expressed support for making, May 9, Victory Day, the Soviet commemoration marking the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, an Israeli holiday.

Given the high number of Israelis of Russian and Ukrainian origin, the holiday is widely celebrated in Israel on an unofficial level though many Israelis are unaware "that the Jewish warriors' contributions to the war efforts were a big part of the victory against Nazi Germany. There is a need for a call of action in order that this legacy will not be forgotten," Victory Day Headquarters, an advocacy group founded by Russian businessman German Zakharyayev, said in a statement.
