"New Attention Disorder" Spurs Research, Debate
Article from NYT, aka 'Pravda on the Hudson.
'With more than six million American children having received a diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, concern has been rising that the condition is being significantly misdiagnosed and overtreated with prescription medications.

Yet now some powerful figures in mental health are claiming to have identified a new disorder that could vastly expand the ranks of young people treated for attention problems. Called sluggish cognitive tempo, the condition is said to be characterized by lethargy, daydreaming and slow mental processing. By some researchers' estimates, it is present in perhaps two million children.

Experts pushing for more research into sluggish cognitive tempo say it is gaining momentum toward recognition as a legitimate disorder — and, as such, a candidate for pharmacological treatment. Some of the condition's researchers have helped Eli Lilly investigate how its flagship A.D.H.D. drug might treat it.

aka - being male (see-Tom Sawyer). It's a disorder from the female standard. A disorder much like hyperactive of the same group whose behavior distracts the matriarchy that dominates and operates the education institution and needs the administration of psychotropic drugs to imbue an environment conducive to their social limitations.

Mustache-cursing Accusations close out Algeria election campaign
[Beirut Daily Star] Campaigning for Thursday's presidential election in Algeria ends Sunday after incumbent Abdelaziz Bouteflika
... 10th president of Algeria. He was elected in 1999 and is currently on his third or fourth term, who will probably die in office of old age...
accused his only real rival of inciting violence and Ali Benflis warned about polling day fraud.

The 77-year-old Bouteflika, despite ailing health and not even appearing in person on the campaign trail, remains favorite to win a fourth term in the April 17 vote in the North African nation.

Presidential aides wound up the campaign on his behalf in Cherage southwest of the capital, where they praised the "miracle" of Bouteflika taking the country "from darkness into light."

The 69-year-old Benflis was to hold his last election rally later Sunday at Rouiba in the east.

Late Saturday, Bouteflika made a rare television appearance -- only his second since campaigning began -- to accuse the man who was once his prime minister of fomenting violence.

He accused him of "terrorism via the television," in reference to warnings the former premier made against electoral fraud.

Foreigner dies of Mers in Saudi Arabia, 8 infected
A foreigner has died from Mers while eight people including five health workers have been infected in the Saudi city of Jeddah, where the spread of the coronavirus among medics has sparked panic.

The death of the 45-year-old man, whose nationality has not been disclosed, brings the nationwide toll in the world’s most-affected country to 68.

The health ministry late Saturday announced the death of the man and said five health workers — two women and three men — and three other people had been infected by the virus in Jeddah. The announcement came days after panic over the spread of the virus among medical staff led to the closure of the emergency room at the city’s main public hospital.

Health minister Abdullah Al Rabiah visited hospitals in Jeddah on Saturday in a bid to calm residents.

The total cases of infection by the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, which first appeared in the kingdom in September 2012, has hit 189, the ministry said. The virus was initially concentrated in the eastern region but has now spread across more areas.

#9  AFAIK the US Navy's CVN + BG is outside of the Black Sea, at last check visiting Greece.

IMO the Russians chose this vessel intentionally because it wasn't a US CVN, otherwise the latter's CAP would be upon them long before the Russkies got close.

IMO again this is Putin putting indirect pressure on the Bammer to cooperate wid him on the remainder of Ukraine - PUTIN WANTS THE UKRAINE TO BE A PART OF RUSSIA'S PROPOSED EURASIAN CUSTOMS UNION + OTHER, PUTIN IS NOT TAKING "NO" FOR AN ANSWER OR REGTURNING THE CRIMEA, BUT HE IS WILLING TO ACCEPT A MINOR OR BENIGN, NEGOTIATED NATO-EU PRESENCE IN THE UKRAINE PROPER AS LONG AS RUSSIA HAS THE SAME RIGHTS.

As per CNN this AM, Putin = FM Lavrov = is saying it, i.e. Russia is NOT interested [for now] in taking over any more of the Ukraine other than the Crimea region. PUTIN IS WAITING FOR OBAMA + KERRY TO RESPOND - IFF THEY DO NOT, PUTIN = RUSSIA WILL ACT UNILATERALLY + FORCEFULLY TO ACHIEVE ITS AGENDA IRREGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE BAMMER IS FEELING PRO-US "NATIONALIST" OR ANTI-US "GLOBALIST" ON A GIVEN DAY.

Dead on both sides in Ukraine 'anti-terrorist' operation
[Beirut Daily Star] Ukrainian security forces launched an operation on Sunday to clear pro-Russian separatists from state buildings in the eastern city of Slaviansk, with dead reported on both sides as Kiev combats what it calls an act of aggression by Moscow.

With East-West relations in crisis, NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
described the appearance in eastern Ukraine of men with specialised Russian weapons and identical uniforms without insignia - as previously worn by Moscow's troops when they seized Crimea - as a "grave development".

Ukraine faces a rash of rebellions in the east that it says are inspired and directed by the Kremlin. But action to dislodge the armed Death Eaters risks tipping the stand-off into a new, dangerous phase as Moscow has warned it will protect the region's Russian-speakers if they come under attack.

One Ukrainian state security officer was killed and five maimed on the government side in what interior minister Arsen Avakov called Sunday's "anti-terrorist" operation.

"There were dead and maimed on both sides," Avakov said on his Facebook page, adding that about 1,000 people were supporting the separatists.

The Russian news agency RIA reported that one pro- Moscow activist was killed in Slaviansk in festivities with forces loyal to the Kiev government. "On our side, another two were maimed," RIA quoted pro-Russian Death Eater Nikolai Solntsev as adding.

The separatists are holed up in the local headquarters of the police and of the state security service, while others have erected road blocks around Slaviansk, which lies about 150 km (90 miles) from the Russian border.

Russia says Kiev's planned operation against rebels is "criminal"
[Beirut Daily Star] Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that an announcement by the authorities in Kiev that they will mobilise the army to put down a rebellion by pro-Russian turbans in eastern Ukraine was a "criminal order".

The ministry said the West should bring its allies in Ukraine's government under control. "It is now the West's responsibility to prevent civil war in Ukraine," it said in a statement posted on Facebook.

It also said that Russia would put an urgent discussion of the situation in eastern Ukraine on the agenda of the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Security Council.

"The situation in southeastern Ukraine is taking on an extremely dangerous character. The authorities in Kiev, who put themselves in power as a result of a coup d'etat, have set a course to use force to put down popular protests," the statement said.

"We decisively condemn attempts to use brute force against protesters and activists ... We are particularly indignant about the criminal order of (Ukrainian Acting President Oleksander Turchinov) to use the army to put down protest."

The statement said the West had sponsored the rulers in Kiev and should now "rein in its out-of-control proteges, force them to distance themselves from neo-Nazis and other bad boys, stop using armed force against the Ukrainian people, and immediately start a genuine dialogue".

Ukraine's ousted president puts blame on CIA
[Beirut Daily Star] Ukraine's ousted president has accused the CIA of being behind the new Ukrainian government's decision to deploy armed forces to quash an increasingly brazen pro-Russian insurgency.

Speaking late Sunday on Russian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
, Viktor Yanukovych claimed that CIA director John Brennan had met with Ukraine's new leadership and "in fact sanctioned the use of weapons and provoked bloodshed."

There was no independent confirmation that Brennan was in Ukraine or in any way involved in the decision to send troops to eastern Ukraine, where armed pro-Russia men have seized a number of government buildings.

The Grand Turk
We continue exposing AKP corruption: Turkey opp.
[Iran Press TV] Turkey's main opposition party has vowed to pursue corruption claims against some top government officials, including Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi only they haven't dumped him yet...

"There is very clear evidence that they have grafted and been bribed. They have also engaged in influence peddling. We know to whom the businessmen enjoying state's tenders are paying their bribes. This information will be revealed one by one," Turkey's Hurriyet Daily News quoted CHP leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu as saying.

He further said that the CHP would work to prove all corruption cases that Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (AKP) have been engaged in, adding that they will do the same for the Service for Youth and Education Foundation of Turkey (TURGEV), a charity NGO which counts Erdogan's son, Bilal, among its board members.

The foundation had reportedly received USD 99,999,900 aid from abroad between 2008 and 2012.

The opposition argues that businessmen had been bribing TURGEV in return for profitable tenders from the government.

"We will put in light how much and from whom the foundation received these donations one by one and then we will also disclose which tenders these businessmen have won. We will show their misdeeds...," Kilicdaroglu stated.
Turkey plunged into political crisis after dozens of government officials and prominent businessmen close to the Turkish premier were placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
for inquiry on graft charges on December 17, 2013.

The scandal, which has turned into a very serious challenge to Erdogan's 11-year-rule, brought down four ministers and led to a cabinet reshuffle.

In February 2014, leaked phone conversations, posted on YouTube, allegedly revealed Erdogan asking his son Bilal to turn millions of euros in cash stashed at several houses into "zero."

Bilal at one point can be heard saying, "There is 30 million euros ($41 million) more."

The phone conversations, whose authenticity could not be verified, were said to date back to last December when massive graft raids were conducted by Turkish police.

Erdogan told politicians in parliament on February 25 that the leaked recordings were a "vile attack" against the prime minister of Turkey and vowed to take legal action against those behind "this dirty setup."

[NEWS.YAHOO] A Pakistani man was arrested Monday on suspicion of cannibalism when the head of a newborn baby was found at his home -- three years after he was jailed for the same offence.
Honest to God, we don't make this stuff up.
Police raided the house in a remote village in Punjab province after neighbours complained of a foul smell and found the head of the two-day-old baby inside.

Householder Mohammad Arif admitted eating the child after his brother stole the body from a graveyard in Darya Khan village, around 300 kilometres (180 miles) south of Islamabad, officers said.

Home Front: Culture Wars
NYC Trial of Occupy activist struggles to find impartial jurors
It is the most important question being asked of dozens of New Yorkers lined up as potential jurors for the trial of Cecily McMillan, an Occupy Wall Street activist accused of assaulting a police officer: what do you think of her protest movement? Unfortunately for those keen on the swift procession of justice, a series of Manhattan residents who presented themselves at the criminal courthouse this week declared that they strongly disagreed with it — and could not promise to be impartial about one of its members.

"I'm involved in Wall Street things. I'm on the Wall Street side, not their side," George Yih, one of a group of prospective jurors whose names were plucked from a tombola by the clerk, said under questioning from Judge Ronald Zweibel on Wednesday. Yih was removed from a shortlist for the panel that will decide if McMillan, 25, assaulted Officer Grantley Bovell by striking him with her arm at Zuccotti Park in March 2012. McMillan denies the felony charge and says that she was reacting to having one of her breasts grabbed from behind. She faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.

But Yih's remarks were only the first in a succession of criticisms against the anti-capitalist movement made throughout the day by other would-be jurors. Each said that he or she had ties to a finance industry that holds about one in nine jobs in New York City and pays more than a third of the total wages earned annually in Manhattan. And as one after the other was rejected — either by McMillan's attorneys, state prosecutors, or the judge — a jury selection process that the defence had hoped would be completed in one day reached the end of a second with only seven of the 12 jurors' seats filled.

However,
the way to a man's heart remains through his stomach...
as state prosecutors prepared to bring a case that will also test the credibility of officers whose conduct while arresting dozens of protesters on that March evening two years ago attracted sharp criticism from civil liberties groups, the pair had their own reasons for rejecting prospective jurors. They had an African American man excluded after he said that a grievance relating to a past run-in with the NYPD could affect his view of the officers expected to testify against McMillan. Patrick Grigsby, an Upper West Side actuary, was similarly banished after expressing mistrust of Bovell when informed that the cop was disciplined by bosses for having five parking and speeding tickets fixed as part of the so-called "Bronx ticketing scandal" of 2011.

McMillan's lawyers said after the trial was adjourned until Friday that they remained confident the court would "find people that fit the profile" of impartial peers. "We've seen people saying they can't be fair on Occupy, and we've seen people who say they can't be fair on the cops," Martin Stolar, her lead attorney, said outside court. "A surprising number of people are actually willing to say that they can't be fair," said Rebecca Heinegg, his co-counsel.

A fresh air of optimism had blown into the 11th-floor courtroom with the day's final pool of 60 potential jurors an hour earlier. Yet when Zweibel asked if any of them thought that they could not be "fair and impartial" in considering the trial at hand, a young woman in the second row instantly threw up an arm and was summoned to a sidebar meeting with the judge and attorneys. "I worked at Deutsche Bank," she could be heard whispering, before being excused.

#1  They'll never get a fair trial in NYC. I recommend moving it to Clark County, Nevada.

#2  "they remained confident the court would 'find people that fit the profile' of impartial peers"
Translation: People sympathetic to 'Occupy' aren't generally the kind that show for jury duty; they're much too busy/ have an excuse/ think it's all an 'oppressor' game.

#3  The impartiality is a matter of requiring the prosecution to prove their point beyond reasonable doubt, not who is being tried. If they can seat jurors for Zimmerman given the coverage, they can seat jurors for the OWS gang.

#4  It does not matter what they think of the protest movement if they believe the rule of law is the guiding light.

#5  ..and the irony being that OWS and its supporters (yes, we're looking at you Mr.Holder and Obama) never respected the rule of law only power.

#6  Nothing personal P2k, but what you and I have actually belongs to them [Champ, Holder, and their people]. We've just not fully accepted the transfer quite yet.

#7  Well, St Patrick's Day just passed so it's probably appropriate that a lot of us are going Irish (see Irish resistance to the Crown).
