Teen Murderer's Mom Claims Her Baby Would Only Rob, Not Murder
[THECONSERVATIVETREEHOUSE] 18-year-old Antreal Jones, 17-year-old Jerome Moore and 16-year-old Antwain Dukes. Dukes and Jones were out on bond for a March 2014 armed robbery. Both suspects have previously been indicted on this charge and were awaiting trial when they killed 69-year-old Carolyn Temple.

"My son is known for house burglary. That's all. He's been going to the Juvenile Center for his house burglary," Moore's mother Sharonda Burns told us. "For one, my son is not going to shoot no gun. Now, I'm not saying he won't rob nobody, but I know he won't shoot no gun. He was not there the time the lady got attacked. I know for a fact where he was. He was not involved in that murder."

14-year-old with 14 prior arrests caught with loaded gun
[MYFOXTAMPABAY] Hillsborough County deputies say they nearly had to shoot a 14-year-old who was reaching into his waistband.
Another "gentle Giant" was he?
Deputies say that a search revealed Dallas Robinson was carrying a gun and two magazines of hollow-point bullets.

"This was a kid that was fully-loaded, ready to go," said HCSO front man Larry McKinnon.

They also found that he has a rap sheet that goes back to when he was 10.

Just after midnight in Tampa, near the intersection of St. James and 127th Ave., a deputy stopped Robinson because his bike didn't have a headlight.

They say that Robinson ran and that the deputy struggled with him before Robinson reached for his waistband.

"The only reason this deputy believes that this kid didn't get the gun and shoot him was because he got the draw on him first," McKinnon said. "Fortunately, we are not at a funeral today, either this kid's or our law enforcement deputy's."

Robinson has fourteen priors starting in 2010 when he was ten.

He has faced charges of carrying a concealed firearm, armed robbery and possession of drugs.

"He needs to be in a program," said his grandfather, who didn't want us to identify him.
Is there a "program" for 14 year olds with a dozen juvie convictions who's toting a handgun loaded with hollow-points in his waistband? I mean, besides a maximum-security prison...
The grandfather says their family has no idea why the juvenile justice system has let Robinson go.

As recently as 11 days ago, they say he was brought home after a stint in a juvenile assessment center for violating probation for a previous weapons charge.

"They don't come back and check on the boy," said the grandfather. "Somebody comes out one time, as soon as they leave, he leaves."

His grandfather says the boy's mother is looking after younger children, and has tried to keep the teen in check. But she says he sneaks out through windows even after doors are padlocked.

The grandfather believes Robinson carries guns to protect himself from other people he's gotten violent with.

"He needs to be in a program. That way we know where he is. He could get killed or kill somebody. Get hurt."

The state's Department of Juvenile Justice says they can't comment on individual cases,
...the usual dodge...
on why he has been in and out of the system so many times.

However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
they say there are many other entities that have input as to how troubled teens are cared for.

USF criminal justice professor Dr. Kathleen Heide says DJJ's resources are often too thin and their programs too limited.

"Unfortunately, Florida has not provided enough for these kinds of situations," she said.
Just what exactly is 'enough' to deal with this kid? Super-Max? I think we can spare a cell for him...
Family says Hillsborough County Schools had him in a home detention program after he flunked out of 8th grade.

Hillsborough County Deputies say they are hoping to be able to charge Robinson as an adult.

Md. parents investigated for letting kids walk alone
[USATODAY] A couple being investigated for child neglect because they allow their children to roam freely in their neighborhood says their parenting style is unfairly under assault.

In many ways, the Meitiv family is very traditional. They eat dinner together every night, their kids have fixed bedtimes, do chores and have limits on their sweets and screen time. But the parents are under investigation because they let their kids walk around the neighborhood together, unaccompanied by an adult.

Danielle and Sasha Meitiv say the investigation is an invasion of their privacy and infringes on their rights as parents.

"I grew up in New York City in the 70s and nobody hesitated to let their kids walk around. The only thing that's changed between then and now is our fear," said mother Danielle Meitiv.

The children, 10-year-old Rafi and 6-year-old Dvora, are allowed by their parents to walk around their neighborhood together, but unaccompanied by an adult.

"They're very proud of their independence. They understand that they need to hold hands when they cross the street, they need to look both ways, make sure the light is with them," Danielle Meitiv said.

But during recent walks from two local playgrounds, one two blocks from home, the other a mile, separate callers alerted police and Child Protective Services.

The Meltivs said police and social service workers questioned their children at their elementary school without their permission or knowledge.

"And when they were talking to them, they were painting a picture of a world that is very scary," said Sasha Meitiv.

"They were asking my son Rafi what he would do if he was grabbed by a stranger. Telling them, you know there are creeps out there that are just waiting to grab children if they're walking by themselves," Sasha said.

Maryland law prohibits children under the age of 8 from being unattended in a dwelling or car, but makes no reference to the outdoors. A person must be at least 13 years old to supervise a child under 8.

Both Lugansk and Donetsk breakaway republics will send representatives to Minsk for talks on the Minsk Accord today, according to Russian language news reports.

Since the end of last year, talks on ending the fighting in Donetsk and Lugansk have been stalled repeatedly over the issue of "completing" the agreement, as Ukrainian president Piotr Poroshenko has termed it. Despite the general lack of agreement on how to end the war, prisoner exchanges and humanitarian aid to the region have gone forward without any protest from any of the sides.

Completing the Minsk Accord is total disarmament of the rebel forces, something the rebels will refuse to do without specific guarantees. Last month, Lugansk president Igor Plotinitsky said that his goal was the incorporation of Lugansk into the Russian Federation. His position has created conflict within his own country, some commanders and rank and file of which want independence.

The president of Lugansk and the president of Donetsk, neither one will appear in Minsk today, mostly because, according to a report in regum.ru, they do not expect anything substantive to come from the talks.

13th Bus attack victim dies

According to a news report which appeared in the pro Russian Voice of Sevastopol, a 13th victim succumbed to wounds sustained in an attack on a bus in western Donetsk. The victim was not identified.

A video posted on the internet purported to show an interview with a male survivor of the attack who said he heard "two or three explosions". According to a separate video, another victim said that several buses were at the checkpoint near where the attack took place, and that ten victims in the explosions were killed "instantly".

The victim saying he heard several explosions takes away credibility from both sides in the conflict -- the Ukrainians and the rebels of Donetsk and Lugansk -- as to what actually took place and who was responsible.

Rebels say that the attack was a Ukrainian "provocation" intended to mark the rebels as terrorists.

Fighting continue at Donetsk Airport

Television news reports from Donetsk claim that the rebels have seized the new terminal at the airport. Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin says that the airport is still not cleared of Ukrainian forces.

According to a video posted on the internet, rebel forces have taken the fourth and the first floor of the massive new terminal building, and continue to attack Ukrainian positions on the second and third floors using small arms and RPG fire.

According to a news report in vesti-ukr.ru, Ukrainian forces have set up a defensive perimeter in one room in the new terminal, and have reported the situation as "dire". The report adds that rebel artillery used to support the fighting for the rebel side are not being suppressed. The meaning of that statement is that the destruction of the control tower has had its intended effect: to limit the effectiveness of Ukrainian counterbattery and supporting artillery fire.

Yesterday, a key Ukrainian army position at the airport, the control tower was destroyed by rebel tank gunfire, eliminating a platform for artillery observers to direct artillery fire at rebel targets in Donetsk city. As of Tuesday, reports are that rebel artillery continues to pound the control tower.

According to a separate report which appeared in vesti-ukr.ru, Ukrainian troops, specifically elements of the 80th "Lvov" Airmobile Brigade have abandoned their positions at Peski. The significance of this news is that one of two settlements used to support troops at the airport have been eliminated. Peski has been used since the very start of the hostilities in May as a marshaling point for defensive operations at the airport.

According to rebel news sources, light mortars positioned at Peski continue to fire on rebel targets in the area.

According to Ukrainian military journalist Dmitri Tymchuk, rebel forces were hit at Spartak by Ukrainian artillery. Spartak, which directly adjacent to the airport, had been used as a marshaling point for the rebels for operations against Avdievka and at the airport. He said that some rebel forces, including a Russian-manned tank unit were forced to retreat due to Ukrainian artillery fire.

It has been said by various rebel sources that if Avdievka falls then the entire Ukrainian defensive operation at the airport will collapse. So far, despite numerous repeated attacks on Ukrainian troops at the settlement, Ukrainian troops remain.

Tymchuk also said Ukrainian troops captured two unidentified Chechens near the airport.

Rebels say that Ukrainian artillery hit several sectors of Donetsk city including Oktyabrsky district, Kievsky district, the "Volvo Center", Petrovsky district and at Polevoy Stan. One civilian was reportedly killed.

Fighting in northern Lugansk

According to rebel report, rebel forces have been advancing all along the northern front in Lugansk, attempting to push Ukrainian units to the northern bank of the North Donetsk River, continuing the operation conducted from the previous days. Rebel artillery hit Ukrainian army positions, especially near Schastye and Stanitsa Luganskaya.

According to rebel reports Ukrainians have been trying, despite rebel artillery fire, to move more forces towards Schastye. Rebel forces have been attempting pincer operations from positions along the North Donetsk River to prevent further reinforcing of Schastye and outlaying settlements, which the Ukrainian army routinely uses to support defensive operations.

Dmitri Tymchuk said that rebel forces near Schastye have received reinforcements consisting of a tank company and a reinforced rifle battalion. Rebel say they are preparing to attack Ukrainian positions on the North Donetsk River as well as locations farther north.

Petition against forced conversion dismissed
[DAWN] The Sindh High Court on Wednesday allowed a young girl who recently converted from Hinduism to Islam to live with her husband.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah gave the direction while dismissing the petition of Kundandas Meghwar against the alleged forced conversion of her daughter, Anjali Kumari Meghwar, who was named Salma after the conversion.

The petitioner, represented by Advocate Syed Ali Ahmed Tariq, asked the court to declare that Anjali was underage and no statement under Section 164 of the criminal procedure code could be recorded at this stage or if her statement was necessary then a judicial magistrate in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
might be authorised to record her statement.

Take a look: Forced conversions

The petitioner also asked the court to order the provincial authorities to constitute a medical board comprising qualified gynaecologists and surgeons to conduct her medical examination to ascertain her age.

The counsel submitted that the petitioners 12-year-old daughter had been kidnapped and forced to convert to Islam.

Salma told the judges that she embraced Islam and married Riaz Sial of her own volition.

After her statement, the bench dismissed her fathers plea and allowed her to go with her husband.

#19  During the Tanker War Pappy?

Yes.

Another time: Two tankers under attack by Iranian small craft in the same area. Both captains broadcasting on marine-band at the same time.

One, a Greek captain (again), did nothing but screaming and pleading for them to stop.

The other, a Brit, sounded like an announcer at a cricket match: described the boats, their tactics and maneuvers, how many Iranians he could see aboard each, what they were dressed like, where the RPGs were hitting his ship, etc.

So yeah, one can do the test pilot-thing - but you have to have the creds to begin with.

Pope on Charlie Hebdo: There are limits to free expression
[TBO] Pope Francis said Thursday there are limits to freedom of expression, especially when it insults or ridicules someones faith.
We probably need a papal nonsense category.
Francis spoke about the Gay Paree terror attacks while en route to the Philippines, defending free speech as not only a fundamental human right but a duty to speak ones mind for the sake of the common good. But he said there were limits.
If there are limits then someone defines the limits. Therefore the speech is not "free" but "allowed," which is subject to change at whim.
By way of example, he referred to Alberto Gasparri, who organizes papal trips and was standing by his side aboard the papal plane.

If my good friend Dr. Gasparri says a curse word against my mother, he can expect a punch, Francis said, throwing a pretend punch his way. Its normal. You cannot provoke. You cannot insult the faith of others. You cannot make fun of the faith of others.
So the Pope whipped out his rosco and blew Alberto away on a plane full of people? Oh. It was just a pretend punch. That's what those Moslems did to all those people in Gay Paree, right?
Many people around the world have defended the right of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
to publish inflammatory cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed in the wake of the massacre by Islamic bully boyz at its Gay Paree offices and subsequent attack on a kosher supermarket in which three gunnies killed 17 people.

But recently the Vatican and four prominent French imams issued a joint declaration that denounced the attacks but also urged the media to treat religions with respect.
Treating religions with respect is a matter of taste. Being disrespectful nowadays earns you a social or even a legal penalty. The auto-da-fe is gone. Being disrespectful to Islam results in frothing at the mouth, probably widespread apoplexy, and, of course, murder. What logically justifies premeditated murder? If Islam offends me am I entitled to mass murder Moslems?
Francis, who has urged Moslem leaders in particular to speak out against Islamic extremism, went a step further when asked by a French journalist about whether there were limits when freedom of expression meets freedom of religion.

Francis insisted that it was an aberration to kill in the name of God and said religion can never be used to justify violence.
But he just did that.
But he said there was a limit to free speech when it concerned offending someones religious beliefs.
... which would mean that murder is "understandable," which leads to "condoned."
There are so many people who speak badly about religions or other religions, who make fun of them, who make a game out of the religions of others, he said. They are provocateurs. And what happens to them is what would happen to Dr. Gasparri if he says a curse word against my mother. There is a limit.
Right. To understand is to forgive. So even though it's against divine and human law to murder people, if you understand the motivation it's forgiven. Right, Herr Himmler?... The ghost sez he quite agrees, and could you turn the heat down a little.
In the wake of the Gay Paree attacks, the Vatican has sought to downplay reports that it is a potential target for Islamic bad boys, saying it is being vigilant but has received no specific threat.

Francis said he was concerned primarily for the faithful, and said he had spoken to Vatican security officials who are taking prudent and secure measures.
Did he say anything to the Swiss Guards?... Oh. Wait...
I am worried, but you know I have a defect: a good dose of carelessness. I'm careless about these things, he said. But he admitted that in his prayers, he had asked that if something were to happen to him that it doesn't hurt, because I'm not very courageous when it comes to pain. I'm very timid.

He added, I'm in Gods hands.
I think that faithful are probably praying for a miracle about now.

#1  Some Christians are apparently trying to hitch a ride on islamofascism like a remora would hitch a ride on a shark.

Sometimes religious belief can lead to a total disintegration of basic morality and decency. This is an example, unfortunately.

Christopher Hitchens on the attack on Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, this was before the election of Pope Francis:

"These people are saying the grandfather (Kurt Westergaard) and granddaughter were the authors of their own attempted assassinations. These are some of the same people who say that if I don't believe in God I can't know what morality is. They've just dissolved morality completely into relativism by saying actually, occasionally, carving up grandfathers and granddaughters with an axe on New Year's Eve can be okay if it's done to protect the reputation of a seventh century Arabian man who heard voices. "

#2  Is it a great god or a lesser god that can handle 'free expression' (part of the gift of free will)? And one who knows the true nature in which it is rendered?

#3  So I guess the Pope is OK with the Romans crucifying Jesus. After all, he mocked their religion by claiming to be the son of an all powerful God.

#4  So I guess the Pope is OK with the Romans crucifying Jesus. After all, he mocked their religion by claiming to be the son of an all powerful God.

It was the Jewish religious authorities, not the Romans. If you're gonna do snark, at least try to be knowledgeable about the topic.

That said, there is something to be said about exercising self-control. If I responded to every comment I see here in the Burg from the mouth-breathers, I'd have been stripped of my mod duties and banned years ago (not to mention having calluses from typing...)

#5  Somebody tell Gasparri that I don't respect his right to set limits on my rights and if he takes a swing at me I'm gonna swing back. I have great respect and admiration for the Catholic Church but this comment makes me proud to be a Protestant.

#6  The Jewish Sanhedrin convicted Jesus of treason, as I understand it, and the Romans crucified him. The next time a Jewish messiah was proclaimed (Bar Kochba in 125CE, the third Jewish-Roman war), the revolt he led resulted in the Jewish population in the Holy Land dropping from millions to a few thousand, the rest having been killed or sold into slavery.

The Romans and other pagans had a long tradition of god-human matings, and many of whose offspring were even more humble than a carpenter/preacher. The Jews, on the other hand, could not conceive of God mating with a woman -- the only other recorded direct creation of humans was that of Adam (from dust) and Eve (from Adam's rib). Religious mockery was not the issue at question in Jesus' case.

Finally, were Jesus not condemned and crucified, he could not have died, been buried, and arisen on the third day to demonstrate his divinity. So the Pope has to be glad it happened, and grateful to the instruments thereof for so thoroughly fulfilling their ordained roles, however painful it was at the time. As do all believing Christians.

#7  Pope Francis said Thursday there are limits to freedom of expression, especially when it insults or ridicules someones faith.

Yeah, and my faith involves being a lapsed Catholic agnostic -- and you, sir, recently called my ilk evil.

Hypocrite is the nicest thing I can call you, so I'll stop there.

Al Sharpton Calls For Emergency Meeting To Address 'Appalling' All-White Oscar Nominees
[Business Insider] The Rev. Al Sharpton was left fuming mad after the Oscars revealed its all-white list of nominees for this year's Oscar awards on Thursday.

"The movie industry is like the Rocky Mountains, the higher you get, the whiter it gets," Sharpton quipped in a statement released later in the afternoon.

US loosens embargo on Cuba, making trade and travel easier
[Ynet]. Obama administration says new rules to significantly loosen the US trade embargo against Cuba and open up the communist island to greater American travel will go into effect Friday.

They are the next step in President Barack Obama's plan to re-establish diplomatic relations with Cuba. They come three days after US officials confirmed the release of 53 political prisoners Cuba had promised to free.

The measures include permission for Americans to use credit cards in Cuba and US companies to export some technologies. Americans authorized to visit Cuba need no longer apply for special licenses. Americans can also bring home up to $100 in alcohol and tobacco from Cuba, meaning the ban on Cuban cigars is officially over.
There's the reason our beloved president ended the embargo.

#2  caught doing multiple illegal partisan acts and erasing required records, the IRS gets punished with budget restraints. Therefore they refuse to do their legally required tasks. There needs to be a purge at that agency. Start at the top and work your way down. Remove pensions for illegal activities. When they say "morale is low", say "don't do crimes against the citizens"

#4  It is the same strategy the Park Service does when threatened with budget cuts: they close the Washington Monument. The IRS is doing the same thing: cutting service so people will complain to their Congress critters.

#5  SSDD.

Had an "interesting" episode with the Feds. Last week. Had to call Medicare since the first card I got was incorrect.

Called the number,
After listening to a stupid, long CIT spiel,
Told me to call SocSec.
Called SocSec number listened to long CIT spiel (do I really have to listen to details on the enabling legislation with an option to hear more?)
Finally get a real person (very nice) who says "Oh, we hear about this trouble all the time".
Says she'll send me a new form with a return envelope.

In 5 business days I got the form!
It was a photocopy of a form AND had been filled out BY HAND............THE RETURN ENVELOPE (not stamped) WAS ALSO HAND WRITTEN!!!

I signed as necessary, put on a stamp, put it in the mail ............... AND HAD A LARGE DRINK!
