Accused carjacker to witness: I only rob white people
[DETROITNEWS] A hapless carjacker failed to get away with the crime after his gun jammed, he forgot to release the parking brake and let a witness go, saying: "You good, I only rob white people," according to the FBI.

Court records filed Friday in U.S. District Court in bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit
... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang...
chronicle a failed carjacking that led to a 24-year-old man facing federal carjacking and firearm charges, which carry penalties of 25 or more years.
Thus Darwin enforces the penalty against passing stupidity to the next generation.
The carjacking happened Tuesday afternoon at Rouge Park on Detroit's west side.

Brandon Lamar Williams, 24, allegedly approached two men inside a 2015 Ford Fusion while holding a revolver in each hand, according to the FBI. Williams announced a hold-up and demanded an Apple Watch, two rings and a black bag from the first victim, according to federal court records.

At one point, Williams pointed a gun at the second victim and squeezed the trigger three times, the FBI said. The gun, however, failed to fire. Williams pointed a gun at the first man's neck and told the men to "get out and leave the laptop," according to court records.

As the first man exited the car, Williams allegedly struck him in the face with the gun, breaking his nose. Now behind the wheel, Williams tried to drive away, but couldn't, the FBI said. He forgot the parking brake.
Gun jammed, can't drive. Must be the product of public education in Detroit...
A witness unaware of the carjacking saw Williams struggling to drive away, approached the car and told him about the parking brake.

Williams pointed a revolver at the Good Samaritan, the FBI said. The Samaritan raised his hands in the air, court records show, before Williams spoke.

"Oh, you good, I only rob white people," he allegedly said, according to court records.

Williams soon ditched the Fusion and got into a Jeep Liberty, which he had parked nearby. Backing up, Williams hit the Fusion and got stuck on a median, according to court records.
Dumb as a bag of hammers...

Retired Maine lobsterman plugs home intruder.
ROCKLAND -- Harvey Lembo says he's nothing special, just a "regular Joe" who bought a vintage revolver Monday, pulled it from beneath his pillow that night and shot an intruder.

The 67-year-old retired lobsterman, who is hard of hearing and winces in pain when he moves from his motorized wheelchair to a stuffed sitting chair, said he just got tired of people ripping him off.

Police charged the alleged intruder, Christopher Wildhaber, 45, with burglary after a surgeon removed the 7 mm slug that Lembo fired into his shoulder.

Lembo said he had lamented to a friend over the weekend that he was tired of having his one-bedroom apartment burglarized -- five times in six years, he said, the most recent incident just two weeks ago.

The friend said he had a gun and if anybody robbed him, he would shoot them.

Lembo thought about it for a day, and then decided to get a weapon for himself, picking up a 1941 Russian-made revolver. He wouldn't disclose where he bought the long-barreled weapon that he said looks like something the Royal Canadian Mounted Police might carry.

"I never planned on using it," Lembo said.

#2  Ebbo - I'm afraid I must disagree with your aiming advice. If you're going to draw with the intent to pull the trigger, the adrenalin rush will narrow your field of vision and the stress of the situation will overwhelm your aim. Hence, always go for center mass. Unless you're sufficiently trained, you could easily miss entirely and then it's a party.

Two men punks accused of trying to kill parents at Snellville home
[WSB-TV 2] GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Two men are in police custody after being accused of trying to kill their parents at their Snellville home. Police say Yvonne Ervin called 911 around 7:49 a.m. and told emergency dispatchers her sons Cameron, 17, and Christopher Ervin, 22, were trying to kill her and her husband Zachary Ervin.
Last time I'll fix oatmeal, geez.
Yvonne told police her husband distracted her sons so she could call 911.
Knife fight is it? Here, try this bar stool on for size. Whammo!
Gwinnett County police says officers found Zachary and one of the sons outside the home. Zachary was severely injured and bleeding heavily. Officers found Yvonne with the other son inside the home. Police say she was also severely injured.

Police say they noticed the gas line had been tampered with and suspect the sons tried to burn the house down.
Say Ernie, did you have Mex for breakfast or is that the Atlanta Gas Co.?
Both parents were transported to a hospital, and both sons were transported to police headquarters.
Holiday shopping just became much easier for Zach and Yvonne.

'Book Reading - A Dying Culture'
Book-lovers spoke out on Sunday about the dying culture of reading books among the people – especially among the youth.

They said that war, poverty and the increase in digital media platforms has had a devastating impact on the culture of reading books in the country.

A number of book sellers in Kabul say that business is so bad that some days they can go the entire day without selling anything.
I never thought I'd give up paper books. Then one day I spent about 18 hours in an emergency room. They don't even have National Geographics anymore. Nothing to do but watch drunks and dopers. The next day I bought my first Kindle. I currently use a Samsung Galaxy, mostly, with about 400 books on it, most from the Gutenberg project or Usenet.

#1  “If men learn this, it will implant forgetfulness in their souls; they will cease to exercise memory because they rely on that which is written, calling things to remembrance no longer from within themselves, but by means of external marks. What you have discovered is a recipe not for memory, but for reminder. And it is no true wisdom that you offer your disciples, but only its semblance, for by telling them of many things without teaching them you will make them seem to know much, while for the most part they know nothing, and as men filled, not with wisdom, but with the conceit of wisdom, they will be a burden to their fellows.” - Plato (commenting on the technology of writing - as in 'books')

Two week weapons surrender under way in Wiltshire
People with illegal firearms or ammunition are being offered a two-week chance to surrender them to police.

Officers say legislation changed last July and people may be unaware they are holding guns illegally.

Wiltshire Police said officers would investigate the weapons' history and if there is any evidence linking it to a crime officers could still prosecute.

A spokesman said the weapons surrender protected people from prosecution for illegally owning firearms.

To hand in a weapon, people have to call the force's non-emergency line, 1010, to make an appointment for it to be collected.

It began at 08:00 BST on Saturday and runs to 21:00 on 20 September.

In previous campaigns Wiltshire Police said it collected antique guns, air weapons, rifles, and shotguns.

From 14 July 2014 any person who has served or received a criminal sentence can not possess an antique firearm.

Those receiving a suspended sentence of three months or more cannot purchase or possess a firearm or ammunition for a period of five years from sentence.

Puerto Rico movement pitches solution to economic woes: rejoin Spain
As Puerto Rico grapples with crippling debt and double-digit unemployment, a far-fetched idea to tackle the US territory’s economic woes may be gaining modest traction – one that would see Puerto Rico break off from the United States to re-join Spain.

“By returning to Spain, we’ll have autonomy,” said José Nieves Seise, who in 2013 founded the group Reunification of Puerto Rico with Spain. “With autonomy Puerto Rico could have sufficient powers to boost the economy and attract foreign investment.”
You had autonomy the last 110 years. You were a commonwealth, not a state. Most folks on the mainland couldn't find you on a map and didn't care what you did. And you had Uncle Sugar helping out for the longest time. But sure, trade us in for Spain. Maybe they'll send you some Syrian refugees...
On Sunday, as the commonwealth’s financial crisis continues to cast a shadow over its relationship with the US, some of the group’s more than 3,000 members will gather in Puerto Rico for their annual assembly to explore the idea of becoming the 18th autonomous region of Spain. The movement is based on a mix of nostalgia and alternative history, with Nieves Seise pointing to what he calls a flawed depiction of Puerto Rico as a colony of Spain. “In reality it was an integral part of Spain. The US invaded us in 1898, and they separated us against our will.”
There was an independence movement in 1898, so at least some Puerto Ricans didn't want Spanish rule. But the U.S. has said at several points that you can go your own way if you want. Feel free.
The split was superficial, he said, highlighting the similarities that endure between Spain and Puerto Rico to this day. “Puerto Ricans love the Spanish people; we’re Spanish. We want to return to the country to which we belong,” said the 43-year-old.

The idea is a long shot, as it relies on contesting the 1898 Treaty of Paris, which laid out the framework for the island to change from Spanish to American hands. Still, the group met with Spanish officials at the consulate in Puerto Rico last year.

“Our goal was just to let them know that our movement exists and that it’s something serious.” This month Nieves Seise plans to send a letter to Spanish King Felipe VI, introducing the monarch to the movement.

Nieves Seise decided to launch the group out of frustration, after repeated calls to address Puerto Rico’s status were ignored by the US. A 2012 referendum found 54% of the island’s 3.5 million inhabitants favoured changing the island’s current territorial status. The financial crisis has also injected renewed vigour into the campaigns pushing for American statehood for Puerto Rico and those pushing for independence.

Nieves Seise rejected these rival campaigns, denying claims by critics who argue that Puerto Rico had fewer freedoms under Spanish rule. Instead he touted the economic advantages of joining Spain, arguing that benefits such as coming under the EU umbrella would allow Puerto Rico to move forward after nearly a decade of economic stagnation.

The island would also be afforded political rights currently denied to them by the US, he said. “Right now, we can’t vote for the president of the United States, we have limited representation.”
Who says you'd have a vote for the Spanish prime minister?
The group has already managed to secure the backing of some in Spain, with a handful of support groups cropping up in recent years in the cities of Málaga and Granada. In January, about a dozen supporters in the province of Castellón formally launched a group, said Spaniard Cristofer Pons Rodríguez. “Personally, I was attracted to the idea of creating a community of citizens that share the Spanish culture,” said the 24-year-old, drawing parallels with the Commonwealth or Francophonie. “It would be about creating a Hispanic bloc as an alternative to the Anglo-Saxon world, to defend our interests.”

As Spain struggles to shake off the lingering effects of a double-dip recession, Pons Rodríguez dismissed concerns that taking in Puerto Rico and its $72bn worth of public debt could dampen Spain’s tepid economic recovery. “This shouldn’t be an impediment to working together,” he said. “The more united we are, the better chance we have of overcoming issues like debt.”

To date the movement has not received any kind of formal response from Spanish authorities. Recently Puerto Rican Iván Arrache called on Spain to take action. “Are they going to leave us to do all the work ourselves?,” he wrote in El Diario de La Marina. “It takes two to tango.”

Spain stands to benefit from taking Puerto Rico into its fold, he said. “Don’t they appreciate the impact this would have against Catalan separatism and how this would help foster the idea of a united Spain?”

After two years of nurturing the movement in Puerto Rico, he said, it was time to establish whether there is any official interest in the idea from Spain. “Spain needs to give us a token of good faith, even if it’s just symbolic,” he said. “Many of us here are ready to give our all. All we’re asking for is something from the other side.”

#1  “With autonomy Puerto Rico could have sufficient powers to boost the economy and attract foreign investment.”

"With autonomy, we could totally jigger the economy as we see fit. Sure, we'd crash and burn like Venezuela, but *we* would be rich!

“Right now, we can’t vote for the president of the United States, we have limited representation.”

If memory serves, the last couple times PR voted on statehood, they turned it down.

#6  Ah, Vieques. Interesting story there.

The range and its support base(Roosevelt Roads) were indeed shut down. However, both were closed in record-setting time; stripped of all usable, movable assets.

The range itself was turned over to the Department of the Interior as a "wildlife preserve," due to the prohibitive time and cost it would take to clear decades of potentially hazardous ordnance. That rather killed well-along plans the then current governor of Puerto Rico and cronies had of developing the area into resorts and upscale housing.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Tajik village told 'no music, no wedding'
[RFE/RL] In the Tajik village of Chorkhuh, wedding music has been frowned upon for years and frequently replaced with Islamic readings by mullahs. That tradition may soon come to an end, if local authorities get their way.

Alarmed by the prevalence of Islamic practices, village officials have set up a band to perform at weddings and are promising to enforce a new rule: No music, no marriage. Without a receipt from a band, the civil registry office will refuse to register any marriage.

Deputy village head Isomiddin Kholiqov said, "Our society has come close to destruction under the influence of mullahs."

Kholiqov said that local wedding parties had become almost identical to funerals in recent years. He said, "We invested $2,500 to purchase music instruments, microphones, and other necessary equipment this summer. Families have to give a month's notice to hire the band and pay the fees in advance."

Families will not be forced to use the official band. Insisting the intent is to ensure happy, lively, secular-style wedding parties, officials say they will be given an option of hiring other bands.

Chorkuh, home to nearly 40,000 people, came under scrutiny beginning in the early 2000s when dozens of its inhabitants were arrested for alleged connections to the banned Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan. The newly banned Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan has had many members and supporters in the village, even during Soviet times.

China-Japan-Koreas
NorK Treehuggers Quite Unhappy
North Korea has once again come out on broadcast television criticizing the poor management of tree nurseries at some of its Forest Management Centers. This public criticism of the forest restoration effort comes after the emergence of Kim Jong Un’s sister, Kim Yeo Jong, as an influential figure in the Department of Propaganda and Agitation.

On August 26, 2015, Korean Central Television (KCTV) aired a program entitled, Let’s Go Forward in Patriotism and Strength in the Forest Restoration Battle. The broadcast criticized several Forest Management Centers, including one in North Hwanghae Province’s Songnim. “They set up sun shades carelessly and then do not even water saplings properly. As a result saplings have become withered and yellow,” the program alleged.

The broadcast went on to a scathing critique of the tree nursery’s poor management: “The spraying equipment also does not properly work [...] No more than 30% of the trees are alive [...] The soil is overgrown with weeds [...] One of the trees still has not sprouted.”

It also condemned the management of the Kangdong County tree nursery. “Because they do not properly conduct fertilizer management and also do not follow water guarantee measures, the saplings turn yellow and wither away. In the vegetable gardens there is so much seaweed that it is difficult to tell whether they are fields of saplings or meadows.”

“The fact that saplings can not grow properly is not due to unfavorable climate conditions but the defeatist and ‘non-owner’ work attitudes of the Forest Management Center workers and tree nursery work groups, who half-heartedly do their work and quit,” the broadcast added.

It went on to say, “When the workers use their heads creatively and engage in the work enterprisingly, great results are achieved in the expansion of the country’s permanent assets [...] If all combatants in the forest restoration work sincerely, the Party’s forest restoration plans will be moved forward.”

KCTV aired a similar broadcast on April 2015 called, Let’s Honor the Noble Wishes of the Party and Make the Whole Country a Primeval Forest. This broadcast said that the forest restoration work had run into some snags and berated people connected to the Forest Management Center.

#1  Uh oh. Somebody is going to the gulag.

Gotta ask: does "Let’s Honor the Noble Wishes of the Party and Make the Whole Country a Primeval Forest" sound better in Korean? Because it doesn't exactly pop in English. Although I admit a primeval forest is actually a good use for NKor.

Don't broadcast this too loudly, otherwise we might start hearing Americanized versions of it...

Zain murder case: two more witnesses deny recognising accused
[DAWN] An anti-terrorism court on Saturday adjourned hearing of Zain murder case after two prosecution witnesses refused to recognise prime accused Mustafa Kanju, son of former state minister Siddique Kanju.

Earlier, maternal uncle of Zain, complainant of the case, had also told the court that he did not know whether Mustafa Kanju killed his nephew. The court on an application of the prosecution summoned record of television channels to watch statements of complainant Sohail Afzal wherein he accused Kanju of killing Zain.

The court had in June indicted Mustafa Kanju and six others on charges of killing 16-year-old orphan Zain and injuring Hussain, 18, in Cavalry Ground area.

According to the prosecution, Kanju was drunk when his car hit another vehicle driven by a woman. It said Kanju got infuriated and opened fire. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
the woman had already driven away from the scene and Zain and Hussain, the passersby, had fallen prey to the firing.

On Saturday, Hussain and his father Zahoor appeared before the court and recorded their statements. Hussain said he was standing outside his house when a bullet hit him causing injuries. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
he said he did not know who fired the shot.

In his statement, Zahoor said he was in the house when he heard the fire shots. When he came out the house, he found his son injured and took him to the hospital. Zahoor said he was unable to recognise the people who were firing.

The court recorded the statements of the duo and asked the prosecution to present more witnesses on Sept 10.

Ulema call for curbing swara
[DAWN] MINGORA: The religious scholars and Learned Elders of Islam here on Saturday termed the forced and swara marriages against Sharia and asked the authorities concerned to ban such practices once and for all.

They were speaking at a seminar about 'early and forced marriages' organised by the Awakening, an organization working for the women's rights, and for social and cultural development. Iftikhar Hussain, a representative of Awakening, said that owning to frequent forced and early marriages it was deemed necessary to tell the society that such practices were against Sharia.

"Taking opinion of Learned Elders of Islam and religious scholars about the early and forced marriages is an important factor in our campaign. The common people understand the Learned Elders of Islam well. The religious scholars can easily motivate the communities to shun the practice of swara," he said.

Religious scholar Mufti Abdul Wahab said that swara or forceful marriage of a girl to resolve conflicts between two rival families was an anti-Islamic act. He said that Islam gave freedom to a girl and boy for marriage and the Islamic state was responsible to ensure, food, security, shelter, education, health and even Nikah in a proper way to a person. He said that swara or forced marriage was also against Pakhtun traditions.

(Racist) White (Lesbian) woman accidentally impregnated with black man's sperm loses legal battle
"'Getting a young daughter's hair cut is not particularly stressful for most mothers, but to Jennifer it is not a routine matter, because Payton has hair typical of an African American girl,' the lawsuit said. 'To get a decent cut, Jennifer must travel to a black neighborhood, far from where she lives, where she is obviously different in appearance, and not overtly welcome.'"
But..but..but..diversity!

#1  One shouldn't laugh, if only for the sake of the poor child spawned by this mentally ill neurotic freak.

Next time honey, just get it straight from the donor if you want to assure yourself of whatever genetic traits you want.

Happy hour at the local meat market is a lot cheaper than a fertility clinic too.

#2  Where are quite a few "turkey buster" children in my son's former school (it's that kind of neighborhood). IMO, most already (third grade) exhibited signs of serious psychological problems.

#4  Can't say I feel sorry for this disgusting rug doctor. Feel for the child, though. The mentally ill (which, obviously includes 100% of the dike population) should not be allowed near children - no, not even in a public market.

Well for one, it's a lot more fun!

i feel sorry for the kid. Not only does she not have a father in her life but she has a couple of mothers who are quite ignorant and racist as well.

She's going to have a lot of psychological problems.

#6  For one side the Lab goofed and the woman did not get what he paid for. So the judge was wrong. However I don't think she deserves more than a refund.

On the other side all the argumentary of that woman reeks of that deep, covert racism look at the isue about hairdesressaers for Christ sake hwya is the girll should have dedlocks and if whe doesn't then a white hairdresser can do the job) of that kind of American liberals are notorious for.
