Unknown number of Twitter employees circulating open letter to Elon Musk demanding they be allowed to keep all their jobs
Demand? That seems excessive, under the circumstances. Even successful union bosses negotiate rather than demanding.

#6  Make them defend their jobs like in office space. Ask lots of follow-up questions how circumventing the US founding documents and censoring people, how gleefully doing things the Nazi's and Soviets approved of is a good thing. Send them home crying.

Then don't fire them, sell the whole company to Trump.

#8  If public conversation on this scale must exist, it cannot be regulated. Just policed maybe, for when people put up pørnograpghy or their cat murdering videos. But the discussions, political voices, actors... they can't be denied or promoted by the platform. In India, we came down hard on twitter right after they zucced the Trump account. Their operations and permissions were stripped to minimal and they are forced to share all user data with the government, under threat of a ban. Around the same time, we banned several Chinese apps and games so they knew we were serious. We strongarmed them into letting the right wing do all sorts of propaganda and shut down Moslem and commie accounts at will. In fact, twitter sued a state government for harassment and forcing it to shut hundreds of troublemaker accounts which were Søros bought commies or Islamists. The dreaded TO (takedown order) has become a pain for twitter here.

These bastards need to be put in their place from time to time.

#10  They're such hypocrites, but the Indian government wrote the manual on hypocrisy 😋. They push the freedom of conversation as a basic right but deny the medium to politically cancelled individuals and parties.

An Indian judge told them, you cannot apply your American 1A here in a complex society. The freedom of expression varies in degree from society to society and is not universal. You play ball with local authorities or lose the biggest user base you have.

Fiennes Comes to J.K. Rowling's Defense Over Abuse by Trans Activists
Or in Leftyspeak, Voldemort Endorses Rowling
[REDSTATE] Harry Potter’s universe is well known for subverting the reader’s expectations as to who is truly the good guys and the bad guys. Funny enough, people who played the villains in the Harry Potter moves continue to come out as being the one’s standing up to defend those who deserve defending.

And few people deserve defending quite like Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who is just as known for defending biological women against the encroachment of transgender culture as she is the creation of the millennial’s most-referenced fantasy world. This has caused the internet and much of the celebrity world to turn on her, with both Daniel Radcliff and Emma Watson making contradictory remarks about her.

But not every Harry Potter star is turning on the reason they had such a magical career.

Not long ago, Tom Felton, who played the villain Draco Malfoy in the Potter movies, expressed his appreciation for Rowling despite the backlash and credited her with bringing joy to millions of people. Hagrid’s actor, the late Robbie Coltrain directly stood up against the online trans mobs who came after Rowling, stating that they were just "waiting to be offended" and that they "wouldn’t have won the war."

In a Rowling-esque twist, it would appear that Voldemort himself is now coming to the forefront to stand with Rowling. Actor Ralph Fiennes has seen the ongoing assault on the author’s legacy and offered up a very reasonable take about Rowling’s position according to The Hollywood Reporter:

Fiennes, who played the villainous Lord Voldemort across four Harry Potter films, told the New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

that Rowling is not an "obscene, uber-right-wing fascist
...anybody you disagree with, damn them...
," when discussing her comments over transgender issues, and that she doesn’t deserve the "verbal abuse" that has been directed at her.

"The verbal abuse directed at her is disgusting, it’s appalling. I mean, I can understand a viewpoint that might be angry at what she says about women. But it’s not some obscene, uber-right-wing fascist," Fiennes said in a weekend magazine interview. "It’s just a woman saying, ’I’m a woman and I feel I’m a woman and I want to be able to say that I’m a woman.’ And I understand where she’s coming from. Even though I’m not a woman."

New York Supreme Court reinstates all employees fired for being unvaccinated, orders backpay
[FOX] The New York state Supreme Court has reinstated all employees who were fired for not being vaccinated, ordering back pay and saying their rights had been violated.

The court found Monday that "being vaccinated does not prevent an individual from contracting or transmitting COVID-19." New York City Mayor Eric Adams claimed earlier this year that his administration would not rehire employees who had been fired over their vaccination status.

NYC alone fired roughly 1,400 employees for being unvaccinated earlier this year after the city adopted a vaccine mandate under former Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Many of those fired were police officers and firefighters.

Afghanistan
Officials Speed Up Construction of Shah wa Arus Dam
[KhaamaPress] The Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW) said the Shah wa Arus Dam construction will be accelerated, according to source, months after concerns over alleged cracks brought about official attention.

In late August, officials of the Islamic Emirate and technical team visited the dam for close evaluation to address the so-called cracks on the dam that yet has to be inaugurated.

According to the ministry’s spokeswoman, discussions between ministry representatives and Iranian diplomats have been held in an attempt to resolve the Shah wa Arus Dam’s issues and accelerate construction.

"Yesterday, deputy minister of Water and Energy, Mujib Rahman Omar met with Iranian Ambassador and Counselor Hassan Shirazi, and discussed with him the remaining work on the Shah wa Arous dam and solving the problems of the dam," said Akhtar Mohammad Nusrat, front man of the ministry, as TOLOnews quoted.

An Austrian company will create mechanical and electrical equipment, and "whenever this company makes this equipment, it will be transferred to Afghanistan and put in the Shah wa Arous project."

"With this equipment, the project will be completed and put into use," said Aminullah Ehsas, the project manager of the Shah wa Arus Dam.

Meanwhile,
...back at the alley, Slats grabbed for his rosco...
Hamidullah Yalani, a former head of Afghanistan water supply agency, highlighted the importance of such dams in Afghanistan, saying it would help in agriculture and overall needs of people.

"The Shah wa Arous Dam or any other dam that is created in Afghanistan will first have a lot of positive effects on the people’s morale and will continue to strengthen agricultural and water management," he said.

ABOUT SHAH-WA-ARUS DAM
Shah wa Arus Dam is a 75m high concrete gravity dam located in the Shakardara District of Kabul Province in Afghanistan. It has a 60m wide three-bay spillway and is mainly geared towards provision of irrigation water as well as flood control and reliable year-round fresh water supply.

Construction of Shah wa Arus Dam has long been proposed by the Afghan government. The bidding process deadline of the Dam was on 24 March 2014, in which an Iranian company known as Tablieh and Parhoon Tarh JV was chosen as the main contractor for the project.

Its work was to build the Shah-wa-Arus irrigation and hydropower project, which included a rock-filled dam, intake, powerhouse, pickup weir with balancing reservoir and head regulators, and right and left side main canals. The Design-Build contract was awarded to Alborz Sazeh Company.

Total cost of the Dam came to around $50 million, with 81 meters height at the rocky base and about 330,000 cubic meters of concrete, would be the first Roller-compacted concrete (R.C.C) that will be implemented within 55 months.

Once operational, the dam will produce 1.2 megawatts (MW) of power and irrigate 2,700 hectares of land in addition to supplying drinking water for the millions of residents of Kabul.

Project has the following major components: Roads, Bridges & other Infrastructure; Concrete Dam with Power Intake Structure; Power House; Pick up weir with Balancing Reservoir and Head Regulators.

Britain
It’s official: Sunak appointed UK's first PM of color by King Charles III
[AlAhram] Britannia's King Charles III on Tuesday appointed new Conservative leader Rishi Sunak as the second prime minister of his reign, shortly after accepting the resignation of Liz Truss.

Sunak became Britannia's third prime minister this year and the first person of colour to lead the former imperial power, vowing to mend its stricken finances after Liz Truss lasted just 49 days.

The new PM was set to speak outside 10 Downing Street after his appointment by King Charles III, capping the latest extraordinary twist in UK politics following Boris Johnson
...pro-Brexit British prime minister, succeeding no-Brexit Theresa May. BoJo is noted as much for his sparkling personality and his hair as for his Conservative policies....
's demise in July.

Departing Downing Street a little before, Truss wished Sunak "every success" and said she remained "more convinced than ever" that Britannia needed to be "bold" in confronting the challenges it faced.

Sunak became the ruling Conservatives' new leader on Monday after triumphing over rival contender Penny Mordaunt, who failed to secure enough nominations from Tory MPs.

It had become a two-way fight after Johnson dramatically aborted a comeback attempt late Sunday, having failed to persuade Sunak to share power. He has maintained a deafening silence since.

Sunak, a Hindu, is the first British-Indian prime minister and, at 42, the youngest leader in more than two centuries.

US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S., father of Hunter, close friend of an imaginary negro named Corn Pop. He blames Trump for losing Afghanistan....
called the choice "groundbreaking", and vowed to reach out to Sunak shortly.

Sunak took power in a morning audience with Charles -- who anointed his first prime minister since ascending the throne following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II.

"UNITE OR DIE"
Britannia's Conservative-supporting media hailed Sunak's appointment.

"The force is with you, Rishi," ran The Sun's headline, in a reference to Sunak's love of "Star Wars" films. The Daily Mail called it "a new dawn for Britannia".

But the left-leaning Guardian highlighted Sunak's warning to Conservative MPs that the party must "unite or die".

Truss left office as the shortest-serving premier in history, after a calamitous tax-slashing budget sparked economic and political turmoil.

The 47-year-old announced her resignation last Thursday, admitting she could not deliver her mandate from Conservative members -- who had chosen her over Sunak in the summer to replace Johnson.

Sunak has now staged a stunning turnaround in political fortunes, and vowed to do the same for Britannia as it confronts decades-high inflation, surging borrowing costs and imminent recession.

He also faces the uphill task of uniting a party riven with divisions and infighting.

Iain Duncan Smith, a former Conservative leader, said MPs now understood the "existential threat" facing the Tories, and that they needed to unite or accept being "out of power for a long time".

"DIFFICULT DECISIONS"
After delivering the now all-too-familiar new leader's speech, Sunak started appointing his top team before facing his first session of "Prime Minister's Questions" in parliament on Wednesday.

Finance minister Jeremy Hunt -- appointed by Truss just 11 days ago in a bid to salvage her premiership -- could remain in the role after stabilising the markets.

He endorsed Sunak on Sunday, writing in the Telegraph that he was a leader "willing to make the choices necessary for our long-term prosperity".

After reversing almost all of Truss's various tax cuts, Hunt has warned "difficult decisions" loom over public spending.

Whoever heads the Treasury is set to unveil the government's much-anticipated fiscal plans on October 31.

Sunak must also decide whether to appoint to his cabinet senior MPs who did not support him, such as Mordaunt, in a bid to unify his fractured party.

One unlikely to get a seat around the table is former boss Johnson, who was driven out in July partly thanks to Sunak's resignation.

On Sunday he announced he would not go forward with his audacious leadership bid.

"NO MANDATE"
Sunak, a wealthy descendant of immigrants colonists from India and East Africa, is also facing calls for a general election after becoming the latest leader who lacks a direct mandate from the electorate.

Pollster Ipsos said Monday that 62 percent of voters want a vote by the end of the year.

"He has no mandate, no answers and no ideas," Labour's deputy leader Angela Rayner tweeted.

Ed Davey, leader of the Liberal Democrats, said young people would be "inspired" by the appointment of the first British-Asian leader -- but also insisted it was time for a general election.

"Given the Conservatives have trashed the economy... I guess one's not surprised that they're scared of the British public," he told Times Radio.

The next election is not due until January 2025 at the latest and opposition parties have no way to force one, unless dozens of Conservative MPs acquiesce.

That appears unlikely as a flurry of polls show Labour with its largest lead in decades.

Rishi Sunak: Tracing UK' new PM roots in East Africa
Oh yes — the East Africa Indian chappie. Now we know, like we know that Boris Johnson’s hair comes from his aristocratic Turkish ancestors.
[Garowe] On Monday, Conservatives settled on Rishi Sunak as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom [UK] after unprecedented exit of Liz Truss, who served as PM for just 45 days, with her only notable contribution being taking charge of Queen Elizabeth II burial.

After the exit of Boris Johnson
...pro-Brexit British prime minister, succeeding no-Brexit Theresa May. BoJo is noted as much for his sparkling personality and his hair as for his Conservative policies....
, stiff competition emerged between Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak on who should take over, but the former was preferred. In fact, the latter faced hostility in what was at times blamed on his ancestral roots.

But Rishi Sunak beat all odds to become the first PM of Indian origin to lead one of the most powerful economies in the world, in the latest dramatic changes in global leadership. Historian Odhiambo Levin Opiyo traces Sunak's roots to a former British protectorate; the present day Kenya.

Just at the beginning of the colonial rule in Kenya, the government was in dire need of literate and skilled labourers to work in the civil service. The biggest hurdle was that Africans lacked formal education and the necessary skills to be hired.

As the government strived to address the situation by encouraging Africans to attend mission schools, it sorts a temporary solution, that of encouraging skilled Indians to migrate to Kenya to fill the gap, writes Mr. Opiyo, a renowned journalist.

Some Indians who had arrived in Kenya at the turn of the century to work on the railway also wrote to their friends and families back at home to inform them about the opportunities. By the end of World War l, the number of Asians in Nairobi stood at 150, 000. They dominated the colony's Middle class working as clerks, shopkeepers and skilled craftsmen.

The rising tensions between Hindus and Moslems in 1935, saw more Indians arrive in Kenya, to take up opportunities. It was during this period that Sunak's grandfather Ram Dass who had just married Suhag Rani began making plans to migrate to Kenya.

Since he wasn't sure of the situation in the new country, he decided to leave his young wife behind promising to bring her to Kenya as soon as he was stable and familiar with the country.

Ram Dass, consequently, bought a one-way ticket to Kenya and boarded a ship that set sail for Mombasa. He then took a train to Nairobi where he began working as a casual laborer while studying accountancy.

Soon he got a job in the office of Chief Secretary in Nairobi as a clerk, records indicate. Two years later in 1937, as soon as he was settled, Ram Dass invited his wife to join him in Nairobi. They have been blessed with six children three girls and three boys. One of the boys was Yashvir ( Sunak's father).

While the girls went for further studies in India, the boys among them Yashvir (Sunak's father) were sent to the UK to study in Liverpool in 1966.

They were soon joined by their parents who like most Asians had been affected by the Kenya government's Africanisation program and the citizenship crisis. At Liverpool, Yashvir enrolled at a school for his O levels before proceeding to do medicine graduating in 1974.

Two years earlier a maiden of tender years called Usha (Sunak's mother) who had been born in Tanzania to a tax official from Punjab, had just graduated with a degree in pharmacology from Aston University.

The two were introduced to each other by friends and married in 1977 in Leicester. They were blessed with three children among them Sunak, the new British Prime Minister.
