MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) — A man accused of opening fire on Ocean Boulevard on a busy Saturday night has been taken into custody.
The Myrtle Beach police in conjunction with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested 37-year-old Edward Williams Jr. of Charlotte on Thursday in connection with the shooting.
WMBF News was sent a video that shows a Dodge Ram behind a Nissan SUV, and a woman standing in the path of the truck. The video shows a man, who police believe to be Williams, walk up to the truck and appear to be talking to the driver and at one point a gunshot goes off before the truck drives off down Ocean Boulevard.
[FoxNews] Authorities have delayed the release of a manifesto penned by Audrey Hale, the shooter who killed six inside a Nashville, Tennessee elementary school, one public official said, calling it a "blueprint on total destruction."
Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tennessee, told the New York Post the FBI was behind the delay while calling for the documents to be released to grieving loved ones and Congress.
The manifesto "could maybe tell us a little bit about what’s going on inside of her head," he told the newspaper. "I think that would answer a lot of questions."
Hale, 28, identified as transgender and was a former student at The Covenant School when she opened fire at the private Presbyterian school last month. Three children and three adults were murdered in the shooting: Evelyn Dieckhaus, 9, Hallie Scruggs, 9, William Kinney, 9, Cynthia Peak, 61, Katherine Koonce, 60, and Mike Hill, 61.
During a search of the house Hale shared with her parents, authorities seized 20 journals, five laptops, a suicide note and various other notes written by Hale as well as two memoirs, five Covenant School yearbooks and seven cellphones, according to a search warrant.
Nashville Council member Courtney Johnston told The Post the FBI has already ruled the manifesto would not be released in its entirety.
"What I was told is, her manifesto was a blueprint on total destruction, and it was so, so detailed at the level of what she had planned," she said, when reached by phone.
"That document in the wrong person’s hands would be astronomically dangerous," she added.
She said she believed part of Hale's writings would come out but that "the vast, overwhelming majority of it," presented too much of a danger to the public.

[VERGE] BuzzFeed News, the Pulitzer Prize-winning news arm of BuzzFeed.com, is being shut down, BuzzFeed CEO Jonah Peretti announced to staff on Thursday. The shutdown is happening as part of a new wave of layoffs at the company that will reduce the company’s workforce by about 15 percent.
“While layoffs are occurring across nearly every division, we’ve determined that the company can no longer continue to fund BuzzFeed News as a standalone organization,” Peretti wrote in a memo to staff the company shared with The Verge. Peretti said they would focus on HuffPost, which it acquired in 2020, as the company’s news brand because the publication is “profitable with a loyal direct front page audience.” Both HuffPost and BuzzFeed plan to open “a number of select roles” for BuzzFeed News staffers. [Cleveland dot com] A federal judge on Thursday tossed out a lawsuit filed by Isaiah Andrews, who spent 45 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit.
U.S. District Judge James Gwin sided with the City of Cleveland and former police officers, who Andrews’ attorneys accused of withholding evidence that pointed to another suspect in the 1974 slaying of Andrews’ wife.
Gwin found that the officers gave the evidence to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office. The judge placed the blame solely on the prosecutor’s office for failing to turn over evidence to Andrews’ attorneys.
"[A] reasonable juror could infer only that police gave the exculpatory evidence over to prosecutors before the trial and that any failure to provide [exculpatory] materials was a prosecutor failure," Gwin wrote in a 35-page opinion.
The evidence, discovered in 2018, led to Andrews’ exoneration.
Sarah Gelsomino, one of the attorneys representing Andrews’ estate, said the case highlighted a problem with prosecutors being shielded from lawsuits...
Andrews served the third longest known sentence in U.S. history for a crime he didn’t commit, according to the National Registry of Exonerations.
He spent 45 years in prison until 2020, when Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Robert McClelland ordered he be released from prison.

Andrews won the new trial after attorneys with the Ohio Innocence Project in 2018 found that prosecutors withheld a report that showed Cleveland police detectives initially investigated and arrested another man, Willie Watts, for the slaying of Andrews’ wife, Regina, who he had been married to for two months.
Watts died in 2011. Other evidence discovered in 2018 pointed to Watts as the killer, Andrews’ attorneys argued.
Judges who oversaw the case ordered Andrews be placed on house arrest until the new trial was held nearly two years later.
Andrews needed the use of a wheelchair during the trial and was getting treatment for esophageal cancer. He was so weak at the time, he was unable to celebrate when the jury found him not guilty, his caretaker and fellow exoneree Charles Jackson previously told cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer.
In March 2022, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Ashley Kilbane found him wrongfully imprisoned, a ruling that paved the way for Andrews to collect money from the state for each year he spent in prison. Andrews, 83, died the next month.
His case in the Ohio Court of Claims is pending. Any money he’d get would go to his estate.

If you can't sue a prosecutor perhaps you can prosecute a prosecutor. Innocent man in prison and guilty man running around free... Someone should pay.

Tigere Chagutah, Amnesia Amnesty International's Regional Director for East and Southern Africa, called for an end to indiscriminate attacks, protection of civilians, and adherence to international humanitarian law by all parties involved in the conflict. Chagutah also urged for an independent investigation into human rights and humanitarian law violations, ensuring accountability for those responsible and reparation for the victims.
Humanitarian groups have reported that between 154,000 to 203,000 people were displaced to neighboring towns, villages, and across the border to Æthiopia. Those most affected include women, children, and the elderly. The ongoing drought in the region has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, with urgent assistance needed for the affected civilians.
Amnesia Amnesty International conducted interviews with 37 people in Las Anod between 6 February and 6 March. The organization also analyzed casualty numbers from local hospitals, media, NGOs, and the Somaliland government. Humanitarian groups have raised concerns about displaced communities facing dire conditions, inadequate housing, scarce medical supplies, movement restrictions, and eviction risks. Somaliland authorities have expressed commitment to providing basic necessities in coordination with local and international humanitarian organizations. A Space Shuttle launch pad was under construction at Vandenberg until the Challenger. It had flame diverters and 50 feet of concrete under the exhaust areas. Also a 250,000 gallon water tank high above the launch pad for 'sound suppression' - but also, I suppose, concrete cooling.
Also an ice suppression system (for the California fogs) powered by two surplus B-36 jet engines. I played a trivial part in those designs 40 years ago.
Space X seems to be lacking all these old-tyme features. High water table and Corps of Engineers issues are a problem, it seems.

Heh, indeed! Watching the live feed after the fact, they stated the test goal was to make it past the end of the tower. Anything more was gravy, which explains why the team all seemed so giddy over the results.
^ Interesting commentary, Bobby. I was wondering about the brown clouds at launch. Not the expected white steam from cooling water. One more thing for the To Do list.
Having the launch pad destroyed is inconvenient but the sooner you find out about such things the better. Fail early, fail often. Otherwise, you risk beavering away for a couple years trying to make everything perfect, only to scrub the launch due to a plumbing leak.

Stages never separated, that could be seen from the on-board cameras. They couldn't get all 33 engines lit during their 3 second long hot-fire a few months ago, and at that time Musk said there was sufficient margin even in that case.
So, maybe there was. Maybe there wasn't.
