Al-Qaeda on the Arabian Peninsula seriously continues to threaten Yemen's stability, and regional security. That is why Yemen's pressing short-term and long-term problems need to be addressed immediately and comprehensively so that terrorism becomes futile. The root causes of terrorism, appropriate methods of deradicalizing or countering religious radicalism, and the potential for Yemen's troubles to infect its neighbors demand proper policy responses. One thing is evident, however, that security and economic development are mutually dependent, and meaningful political reform is necessary to sustain both.
In fact, there is an urgent need for a process of dialogue to address the critical issue of national reconciliation as well as broader political reforms. An outside facilitator is needed to provide a neutral forum for discussion and promote accountability. Regional and international support is absolutely critical to achieving success, and Oman could possibly be a suitable interlocutor. The dialogue process should be broad, including the ruling party, the Joint Meeting Parties, the Southern Movement, the Houthis, and other relevant actors.
It might work, if everyone who doesn't follow up on his commitments is summarily shot... as is everyone who doesn't make the appropriate commitments.

Long ago and far away this is what the 1st Amendment did. Perhaps more recent commerce clause reasoning could define the effects such public funding has by displacing otherwise private activity. If intRAstate commerce affects intERstate commerce, certainly a publicly funded press affects the remaining free and unabridged press.
Then again, I only got a B in constitution law class.

NPR claims that most of the funding it gets from the government comes in the form of grants, not support payments. That would need to be and additional specification in Mr. Simon's proposed law.

If the courts can read the first amendment and declare any form of funding to any church, let alone the simple erection of a cross in tribute to our fallen on public land, to violate the separation of 'church and state', then how hard is the concept of separation of 'press and state' to be implemented? Other than they just make it up as they go along.
So the Democrats sucked. But not just plain old, usual politician sucked, but epic levels of suck where its hard to find an analogue in human history that conveys the same level of suckitude. It was sheer incompetence plus arrogance and those things do not complement each other well. Were talking sucking that distorts time and space like a black hole.
Its Godzilla-smashing-through-a-city level of suck but a really patronizing Godzilla who says youre just too stupid and hateful to see all the buildings hes saved or created as he smashes everything apart. Or, to use Obamas favorite analogy, you have a car stuck in ditch, so you call the mechanic, but the only tool he brings with him is a sledgehammer. And then he smashes your car to pieces and charges you $100,000 for his service. Finally, he calls you racist for complaining. Obama and the Democrats have been so awful, its hard for the human brain to even comprehend.
Opening a whole new branch of cognitive science -- liberal psychology -- Obama has discovered a new principle: The fearful brain is hard-wired to act befuddled, i.e., to vote Republican.
But of course. Here Obama has spent two years bestowing upon the peasantry the "New Foundation" of a more regulated and socially engineered, and therefore more humane, society, and they repay him with recalcitrance and outright opposition. Here he gave them Obamacare, the stimulus, financial regulation, and a shot at cap-and-trade -- and the electorate remains not just unmoved but ungrateful.
Faced with this truly puzzling conundrum, Dr. Obama diagnoses a heretofore undiscovered psychological derangement: anxiety-induced Obama Underappreciation Syndrome, wherein an entire population is so addled by its economic anxieties as to be neurologically incapable of appreciating the "facts and science" undergirding Obamacare and the other blessings their president has bestowed upon them from on high.

Scientology does this in its "auditing". If you don't understand what's going on, it means you need to have it explained carefully until you do understand.

When you listen to them, they consider dissent to be something outside of 'reason' in their universe. Their perspective has been implemented before. Apparently, it's the only way they can grasp that someone has a different opinion. It's why in the end, you can't reason back with them. Their minds are closed.

The latest dust-up between liberal commentator Juan Williams and NPR tells me the radical left is out to squelch free speech. This bunch in control are dangerous to our liberties.

Juan Williams is not exactly the patron saint of journalistic balance, even left-wing balance. See this bit from Best of the Web:

I think it's the same people who say, you know, "This guy's a socialist." I think it's now about a third of Americans who--and overwhelmingly Republicans--who say he wasn't born in the country. This was considerably more objectionable than Williams's Monday comment. In the earlier case he was attacking ordinary Americans, baselessly accusing them of racism because they have doubts about the president or are uncomfortable with his policies.

Williams is a liberal. He readily admits that. Many in the media try to mask their left-wingedness and pretend to be objective reporters. Maybe I should say they pretend to be reporters. Generally Williams is fairly reasonable. However, when it comes to discussing Obama, I find him totally unreasonable. He can't find it in himself to be critical of Obummble when he ought to.

Things change. I remember telling an incredulous German back in the early 1980s that Russia should not be underestimated, that given the proper circumstances it could once again become a capitalist nation, albeit an authoritarian one.
As far as the Chinese go, they have long been called "The Jews of the East", and not without reason. Some of the relationships within their major extended families are staggeringly complex and intertwined within the political, business and military power throughout southern Asia.

Interesting exercise: compare taxes on capital gains in the US and in China, and add in restrictions and barriers to capital formation as well as business costs due to government mandates and regulations. Go do the math.

Absolutely the chinese, especially those groomed to go into government, would learn about the perils of big gov, as the chinese region has had revolt in the past because of large authoritarianism. On the flip side, with a new and growing middle class who see themselves as chinese as anyone I'd guess is in direct conflict with asian-style communism. So yes, both the gov class and middle/merchant class would be very interested in such a topic.
(I wish I had the book handy which explains this in one nice paragraph, something like the gov class goes in and tells the peasant class they deserve some of what the middle class has, employ the peasant class with the gov class and kill or chase off the middle class, then the gov class turns on the peasant class and forces them to turn rocks into rice...or else. It may not even be considered asian style anymore, it is an older book, since that is basically zimbobland etc)

The middle class is a direct challenge to the total authority of the gov, but if the gov shuts down the middle class they lose their economic arm but keep their ruling status. Wait, who am I talking about again?

Chinese merchants have generally been successful 'outside' the kingdom. Historically, they were treated as less than peasants, who of course raised the food, though they were good to on an irregular basis to fleece of wealth for the government. It ran through the culture as such for a couple thousand years. Then the communists carried the concept to the logical conclusion of just liquidating the 'parasites'. Now the government has discovered the benefits of capitalism, they can follow model of those Chinese merchants from 'outside' the kingdom to displace the collectivists and redistributionists who abandoned the basis of their economic strength.
The Democrats are about to be beaten by something they do not in their heart of hearts think exists - a huge national majority. At this late hour, with the storm clouds gathering and the livestock getting restless, they see only sunshine. Yes, there is "foreign money" out there. Yes, the media have bungled broadcasting the purity of the Democratic message. And naturally, angry voices can be heard. Yet surely there is no majority gathering to unseat the party of decency and good deeds. Well, there is, and it is nothing like the Democrats describe it.
That majority is amiable, sensible and believes in limited government. It is convinced that we face a catastrophic budget crisis and that measures must be taken against the spending and on behalf of growth. Furthermore, many of these friendly Americans would be delighted to give our president a ride home if they found him on a street corner, though they would be a lot happier if he did not live at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. They doubt he would ask them in for a drink. After all, to him they do not exist.
Many of these people are Tea Partiers. They certainly do exist. Yet they are nothing like the Democrats believe them to be. They are not angry and warlike. They are concerned about what the Democrats have done these past months, but they will retire them the old-fashioned way - through the ballot box.
Our president has a difficult time conceiving of this growing majority that opposes him. Apparently, in May, President B.O. invited a group of presidential historians to the White House to discuss history and inform him of any historic movements comparable to the Tea Party movement in all of American history. The historians told him what he wanted to hear. As Peter Baker wrote in the New York Times Magazine, the president wanted to know whether there were "precedents for this sort of backlash against the establishment. What sparked them and how did they shape American politics." Reportedly, the historians spoke of the Know-Nothings of the 1850s, the Populists of the 1890s and the Coughlinites of the 1930s. Thus our president was reassured. They were racists and fruitcakes. He heard nothing to challenge his smug sense of history. There were a few other incidents and people they could have talked about if they hadn't been wearing their blinders. There were the Abolitionists, for example. They simply wouldn't shut up about freeing those damned slaves. There was the Whiskey Rebellion, back in President Washington's time. And there were those Texans, holed up in their Alamo.

I think the biggest thing that should come out of this election is to really pound down the idea, repeated endlessly, that it is not the Democrats *as people* who were turned out by the public, but an utter, complete, and unified rejection of their "ideas".
After lesser losses, the Democrats have come out to call the public "ignorant", "stupid", "foolish", "uneducated", etc., etc. And they MUST be challenged on this.
It is not the public that have "failed" the ideas of the Democrats. It is the ideas of the Democrats that are failures. They are losers. The public rejects them. And the public is not stupid for doing so.
The Democrat ideas are wrong and bad. Worthless and repulsive. Their philosophy is a failure. Their intellectual guides are losers.
Be they Keynesians, proponents of socialized medicine, advocates of 'whole language' English and the equally despicable 'whole math", Kinsey's corrupt and perverted studies of human sexuality, etc. These ideas are villainous and deserve to be rejected and discarded.

If I could be Bushitler, Obamanation and the Governator all rolled into one, with absolute control of congress, I could fix the beautiful USA to a functioning, wonderful place with a healthy economy for decades to come.
this is what I would do:
1) cut all foreign aid to zero
2) remove all funding from the UN and kick them out of New York
3) bring the troops home from Afghanistan, leaving only Iraq because of the oil. Leave the Afghans to fester, under threat of nuking mecca if any more planes are flown into buildings
4) channel all the money saved from no more aid/UN/afghan war to the following (for citizens only):
i) free universal (basic) healthcare. No cosmetic surgery, you want breast implants you pay for them yourself (unless you are a cancer survivor who needs to replace a missing breast eg)
ii) free universal (basic) dental care. no gold teeth here, just basic dental care
iii) free universal optical care. you need glasses, you get them
iv) free universal education with university entrance determined by SAT scores
there would be plenty of money left over for the pension liabilities
then I would deport every illegal immigrant. You don't have a greencard or a visa? get out.
the soldiers brought back from afghanistan can be put to work nation building and winning hearts and minds... in America!
They can be repairing the roads and building infrastructure alongside a newly invigorated construction sector.
All prisoners should be forced to work in chain gangs

Umm, Tea Party, Tea Party, where in history have I heard that before?
Didn't some unwashed rabble get a silly notion into their heads they're not serfs and rally against a King?
A healthy economy needs a healthy stable workforce to succeed.
A population where many people are running about with undiagnosed mental illnesses or who are otherwise incapacitated because they can't pay for basic healthcare does not lay a stable workforce for industry.
It could easily be paid for just by the US taxes that are now being given away to the rest of the world.
Remember "no taxation without representation"?
When was the last time YOU got to vote at the UN? Or in Kenya?
So why should you be forced to pay tax to those entities?
Anybody wants to give money to the next Haitian earthquake, they can do it VOLUNTARILY through charity - Government has no right at all to throw away your taxes.

I don't think we should end foriegn subsidies. We should limit them to subsidised vacations for American taxpayers. Not earned income taxpayers gettin a check, real live taxpayers. Give them a thousand bucks spending money if they stay in a large resort setting, five K if they stay in a SMALL privatly owned place. Most countrys we give money to have demonstrated just how well the peoples lives are improved by our money. Not at all. Give the money to the people and let the governments get what they can through taxes. Countrys not safe for Americans? Might want to work on that.

I guess Whoopi, Joy Behar, and Barbara Walters didn't see this video. Nor did they see the Imam Anjem Choudary on the Christine Ananpour special where he said Daisy Khan was not a practicing muslim because she was not covered and wearing the hijab. He also said the islamic flag would fly over the Whitehouse. He also said sharia law would be the law of the land in America.
