Libya: The War for Radical Islam
h/t Gates of Vienna
This is the first time in history that Hamas, Hezbollah and the Muslim Brotherhood welcome what is supposed to be a « victory » for Western forces.

It is the presence of members of Islamic-terrorist movements among Libyan « rebels » --as well as the many atrocities committed by « rebel » forces against black Africans -- that the mainstream media are now largely ignoring.

Winning the war took five months – not exactly a demonstration of strength and may instead appear as a demonstration of weakness: if the U.S. military combined with the French and British armies needed five months to defeat a Third World dictator who had agreed to disarm, how can they possibly dissuade better equipped dictators?

Winning the peace looks like an impossible task, especially as nobody is in charge of this mission. The commander of the Tripoli Military Council, Adbelhakim Belhadj, is the former head of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, an al-Qaeda affiliate. The commander of the Benghazi Military Council, Ismail Al Salabi, is a former high level member of the same group.

Article 1 of the Draft Constitutional Charter for the Transitional Stage says : « Islam is the Religion of the State, and the principal source of legislation is Islamic Jurisprudence (Sharia). »

#2  "Winning the war took five months" of clueless arabs doing what they do best , being clueless " Inject 150 folk who know how to organise fight - and bingo - result .

"Winning the peace" looks like an impossible task, especially as nobody is in charge of this mission. But all to blame , no doubt .

As for the sharia bit - eyes roll , shoulders shrug - its dem crazy inbreds again - surely statistically , if they carry on inbreeding - the problem will find a solution . How many times can a cousin marry a cousin or closer relative - crazy sickness inspires by the region of peace .. eer religion /

#2  Another Lebanon. The youth of Egypt were so enjoying the western ways. Now that all will be lost. The Muslim religion will put a straight jacket on thought and freedom as we are seeing in many areas of the world and Turkey just starting.
People who want control use this religion to hide behind. They want a population of drones. I think they should require five prayer times a day but four hours each time. Then four hours of lectures.

What Job 'Training' Teaches? Bad Work Habits
Last Thursday, President Obama proposed new federal jobs and job-training programs for youth and the long-term unemployed. The federal government has experimented with these programs for almost a half century. The record is one of failure and scandal

ATK: Ammo for Uncle Sam, and for Us, Too
Condensed to include just this part about ATK
ATK's largest responsibility regarding national defense is running the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence, Missouri. Back in WW2, the U.S. ran six small arms ammo-manufacturing plants, but Lake City is now the only one left. The government still owns the plant, but ATK has operated it since 2001. That makes ATK at Lake City the sole source for 99% of the 5.56 NATO, 7.62 NATO, and .50 BMG ammo used by every branch of the U.S. military.

How much ammo do they make? Operating at maximum production capacity for the last few years, Lake City has managed to crank out an average of about 1.4 billion, yes BILLION, rounds a year, and still they barely meet the demands of fighting our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In May 2011, the US Army decided that they really liked the 100 million rounds of M855A1 Enhanced Performance Round ammo that ATK had built so far. ATK had helped develop the new round, which uses no lead in its copper and steel bullet construction. The Army was impressed with its superior stopping power, especially at extended ranges, and its improved barrier penetration.

They signed a new $488 million contract for ATK at Lake City to crank out this latest generation of 5.56 ammunition, along with more badly needed 7.62 and .50 cal ammo for our troops.

There are some concerns about Uncle Sam putting all of its ammo production eggs in one basket at Lake City. Although ATK is working on a $242 million modernization project there, it will not actually result in an increased capacity to make more ammo than the plant currently produces.

Producing 99% of our military ammo in one place has physical risks as well; although the plant is well guarded and safety rules strictly followed, a terror attack or industrial accident could potentially cripple America's ability to wage war.
Here's the money line
The primers used in making the military ammo also contain a less obvious national security risk--of the 13 chemicals used to make the primer compound, 10 of them are imported from outside the country. For example, four of the chemicals can only be found in China, and two can only be found in Mexico.

If either of those countries were unwilling, or unable, to export these chemicals to us in the future, we would need to come up with a new way to make primers. However, solving these issues is not up to the private company doing what the government tells them; it is up to our policymakers.

ATK is the company trusted by our military to make the billions of rounds of ammo needed by our troops around the world. ATK's parent company, Honeywell, was one of the early adopters of the "Six Sigma" quality control process, in which 99.99966% of products manufactured are expected to be free of defects. Put another way, this means 3.4 defects per million products made.

The ATK subsidiaries building products for the civilian market are held to the same standards, and as a result, their quality is recognized throughout the industry. When making your next high-quality ammo purchase, do not be surprised if the brand you choose turns out to be an ATK-owned company.

India-Pakistan
Police in Karachi
[Dawn] JUSTICE is denied when it is not delivered in an even-handed manner by those entrusted with enforcing the law. On Friday, Sindh`s inspector general of police himself admitted before the Supreme Court that nearly 30 to 40 per cent of appointments in his department are made on the basis of political affiliations. No one party is involved here -- anyone with the required clout can get their favoured ones a job in the police department and that favour is subsequently repaid with acts of omission and commission. In this scenario, questions must be asked about the independence of the police force. Do its members act in accordance with the dictates of the law or their own political connections? This is particularly pertinent in a city like Bloody Karachi that has seen over 1,400 people killed in politically motivated violence over the last eight months, with only a handful of the suspected perpetrators being jugged. This shows either the incompetence of the police force or its politicisation, or perhaps both.

It is the responsibility of law-enforcement officials to implement the law. But what can one expect from a police force that is fractured along political, ethnic and possibly sectarian lines? A return to the Police Act of 1861 has made matters worse. Officials at the top have lost some of their disciplinary powers and are now subordinate to the provincial home department. This hampers efficient, honest, policing. And the story doesn`t end there. For a city of over 15 million people, there are just about 31,000 coppers on hand out of an allocation of 35,000. Of that number, many are cooks, drivers and others who are not part of the operational police force. Huge resources are also eaten away by the rich and powerful who feel that receiving protocol that is in keeping with their `status` is their right. Order must be restored and a new mechanism for the proper rule of law installed. Reforms in the police department, hand in hand with a proper judicial system, need to be implemented. Until such time, Rangers with policing powers appear to be the only solution.

The police must be non-partisan and perceived as such. Policemen and officers whose loyalties lie with one political party or the other are not the answer to Bloody Karachi`s woes. That said, there are honest men and women in the police department. They must be given a chance to prove their credentials and improve the force. The challenges lying ahead may be mighty but they can be met given the implementation of reforms and the enforcement of the rule of law.

Olde Tyme Religion
Endgame for Egypt
Spengler lays it out.
... The misnamed "Arab Spring," really a convulsion of a dying society, began with food shortages. Egypt imports half its caloric consumption, 45% of its people are illiterate, its university graduates are unemployable, its $10 billion a year tourism industry is shuttered for the duration, and its foreign exchange reserves are gradually disappearing. In August, the central bank's reported reserves fell below what the bank calls the "danger level" of six months' import coverage, or $25 billion, from $36 billion in February, although I suspect that even this number is bloated by $5 to $10 billion of Algerian and Saudi loans and trade credits. Despite reports in the press that food price inflation in Egypt has slowed, Arab-language Egyptian media report that the price of some staples, like rice and sugar, have risen by 50% or more since March. The military government is distributing bread and propane (the main cooking fuel).

Egypt turned down a proposed loan from the International Monetary Fund earlier this year because the military government could not accept the conditionality attached to IMF money. The Gulf States and the West may keep Egypt on life support, which would leave a large proportion of Egyptians in a limbo of extreme destitution. The fiscal collapse of Southern Europe (and sever problems elsewhere) makes this an inopportune time to come to the West with a begging bowl. As for the Gulf States: they are not even meeting their commitments to the Palestine Authority, and can't be expected to carry a $15 to $20 billion annual financing requirement for Egypt.

It does not compute. Western economists can concoct all the economic recovery plans in the world, but a country that can't teach half its people to read, and can't produce employable university graduates, and can't feed itself, is going to go down the drain. Nasser, Sadat and Mubarak kept Egypt under control by keeping most of its people poor, ignorant, and on the farm, and by warehousing its youth in state-run diploma mills. After sixty years of such abuse, Egypt simply can't get there from here.

The result, I predict, will be a humanitarian catastrophe that makes Somalia look like a picnic. It's not surprising that the Egyptian mob might attack the Israeli embassy. The Egyptian street has nothing to do but rise up against perceived oppressors, because nothing good awaits them; and the desperation that will follow the collapse of the Arab "Spring" threatens every Middle Eastern regime, such that the rulers have to try to get out in front of the rage. But what will they actually do? The Egyptian military is hanging onto power by its fingernails. If it attacks Israel, it will lose, and generals will be hanged from lamp posts. The Syrian military is too busy killing protesters to attack Israel, or to assist Hezbollah in a confrontation with Israel.

What we are likely to witness during the next two years will be repellent, even horrifying--but not necessarily dangerous.
