The Federal Gov's Bungled Census Is Bad News
[DailyCaller] If a politician from Florida decides to run for president in 2024, his (or her) home state will be short two votes in the Electoral College, and when the new session of the U.S. House of Representatives convenes in January 2023, Florida will be missing two congressional seats to which it is entitled.

Why? Because according to a post-2020 census survey, the U.S. Census Bureau significantly undercounted the population of Florida, as well as Arkansas, Illinois, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. At the same time, it overcounted the population of eight states, all but one of which is a blue state.

The 2020 errors were discovered when the Census Bureau interviewed a large number of households across the country and compared the answers it got to the original census responses in 2020. In addition to undercounting six states, the survey showed that the Bureau overcounted the population of Delaware, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island and Utah.

Funny coincidence – the Census made its largest overcount percentage error in President Joe Biden’s tiny home state of Delaware, which was overcounted by 5.45%. But Rhode Island and Minnesota were also overcounted by 5.05% and 3.84%, respectively, which allowed each of them to keep a congressional seat to which they are not entitled.

Minnesota, according to the original census report, would have lost a congressional seat during reapportionment if it had 26 fewer residents; the survey shows the state was overcounted by 216,971 individuals. Similarly, Rhode Island would have lost a seat if the Census Bureau had counted 19,000 fewer residents. It turns out that the state was overcounted by more than 55,000 individuals.

So both states will continue to have more representation in Congress, and more votes in the Electoral College, than they should. The same is true of Colorado, which was awarded a new congressional seat that it should not have gotten.

Contrast that with Texas, which the Census Bureau survey says was undercounted by almost 2%. That represents over a half a million Texans, which means that, like Florida, Texas was cheated out of an additional member of Congress. At that time, the Census Bureau said that Texas needed only 189,000 more people to gain another congressional seat. Turns out Texas already had them.

Arkansas had the largest percentage undercount at 5.04%, which represented over 150,000 residents of the state.

These errors by the Census Bureau also mean that the overcounted states will be receiving a larger share of the over $1.5 trillion in federal funds that are distributed to the states over the next decade based on their states’ populations. And the undercounted states? They will be getting less funding than they should.

There is no remedy in the federal statutes governing the census and apportionment to correct this problem. The scope of this problem was unusually high, and the Census Bureau has not offered any explanation as to how this happened.

By way of comparison, the survey the Census Bureau conducted after the 2010 census showed a statistically insignificant error rate of only 0.01%, which means the Bureau only missed counting 36,000 Americans. Quite a startling difference from the 2020 census.

Even if the states most affected could win a case in court, how would you come up with a remedy? Ordering the Census Bureau to conduct another actual recount in the 14 affected states would be a complex, expensive undertaking that would provide numbers on a different date than the original census whose population totals from April 1, 2020, would still be in effect for the rest of the states, raising fundamental fairness issues given the high mobility of our population. And ordering a new census of the entire nation also seems impractical.

But there is no question Congress needs to get to the bottom of what happened. It must use its oversight authority to investigate the Census Bureau, its methods, procedures and operations to determine how and why these errors happened. We have to ensure that the necessary changes are made that won’t allow this to happen again.

The Reverend Joe Biden and America's Revival Hour

[Western Std] "I give you my word as a Biden, I have never been more optimistic about the American future." — Joe Biden

"Public opinion corresponds to nothing authentic." — Jacques Ellul

Everyone in "the biz" will tell you that timing is everything.

Does it matter that the mid-term elections are just over two months away? Does the War in the Ukraine, a massive economic crisis, and a disoriented population still reeling from 2.5 years of fear and government overreach matter? Does it matter that for the first time in history the FBI has raided the home of a President, and that no smoking gun has yet been revealed? And does it matter that perhaps the most popular public figure in America — that being Joe Rogan — last Saturday told Americans they should vote republican?

No. None of this matters when you speak outside of Independence Hall, at night, flanked by two Marines before glowing red walls and American flags. None of this matters when you share the pain of Americans and are "not a president of red America or blue America, but of all Americans," when you talk about an America that is free of complexity, tension, racial violence like BLM and Antifa protests, or when you appeal to a sentimental notion that never truly existed, a demon in a red Maga hat that no one has ever really met, and to a future that is impossible this side of Heaven.

Here is the danger that Biden has come to this sacred ground to meet: "Donald Trump and the Maga Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic."

His weapons: Abandon all nuance and reality, don't let hearers think about specific experience or facts and fill them with pie in the sky ideas and sentiments.

Then get them to "come on down" and commit their lives at the altar of democracy.

So we're offered the Strawman at its finest:

-Maga Republicans do not respect the constitution, believe in the rule of law, accept the results of a free election.

-The Maga Republicans believe that for them to succeed everyone else has to fail.

-They spread fear and lies, lies told for profit and power.

-They want to go backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, to contraception, no right to marry who you love.

-They are white extremists and white supremacists.

Cutting free choice and the right to privacy? Lies told for profit and power? Yup, that's those redneck farmer guys in the red caps, those auto workers, farmers and grannies with their prayer breakfasts and gaudy Trump buttons. That Maga crowd.

But apart from those guys, with evangelical zeal Biden casts the net real wide. It's "We the People" and the audience is led into a kind of kumbya circle with the likes of the corporate elite, with the JP Morgans and Jeff Bezos, the Clintons, Pfizer, and the Hunter Bidens because "America is big enough for all of us to succeed." On this sacred ground they meet with the kindergarten teacher from Iowa, the Texas ranch hand, or a young black man trying to get out of Brooklyn whose family was tossed to the curb during the housing crisis by big banks who have not had to pay back a penny.

"Everyone should be treated with dignity," after all.

Yes, for sunny Joe, we're all in this together, man. Gone are the such divisive words as "I am losing patience with the unvaccinated" or "those deplorables," or "leave because you are not New Yorkers."

We'll put those small things like money and prestige and privilege aside, for a moment; we've got to save democracy.

"I will not stand by and watch...elections in this country stolen by people who simply reject that they lost..." and imagines a country where the Democrats and Hilary Clinton did not for years question the legitimacy of Trump's presidency.

He warns of political violence and makes it clear that he will not tolerate it, and somehow forgets to name BLM or Antifa.

He says he's trying to draw people together but demonizes at every breath. No admitting of mistakes. No recognition that the other side might have value. No recognition that the Democrats don't know everything.

Its oddly disorientating, all of this hooplah.

What was very real in this speech though, was the threat. Decry political violence and then weaponize every tool of the government to bring down your opponents. Dress yourself in a cause — be it economic stability, global warming, or in this case democracy and march out with your flag. It's not your anger. It's not your insecurity. It's not your agenda. It's "the cause". You are sacrificing yourself for "the cause", and you can justify — as with the Covid cause — justify anything in its name. (Governments are not drawn to abuses of power — Covid calls for it.)

Granted, it's always weird looking on at American political speeches. They talk about themselves as the beacon of all that is good in the world (cue Biden's inaugural words "And America is ready to lead once more!" as if someone asked them to.) It's not just Biden. But in the face of so much uncertainty right now, even the most ardent of supporters must have raised an eyebrow?

But he continues: "I know this nation, I know you the American people. I know your courage. I know your heart."

And the gospel choir sings as Rev Joe goes into altar call mode: "I'm asking our nation to come together. To defend our democracy regardless of your ideology."

And it all builds to a crescendo:

"No matter how long the road, progress does come."

"The future will be made in America."

"Democracy must be defended, for democracy makes all these things possible."

"No matter where you start in life, there is nothing you can't achieve."

"There is not a single thing America cannot do."

Its like a bumper sticker convention!

And this Hallelujah moment: "America is the most powerful idea in the history of the world."

And to get to this Promised Land, "Democracy must be defended."

...from those bad guys in the red caps.

Reverend Biden did offer a couple truths in this otherwise hyperbolic speech:

"Blind loyalty to a single leader is fatal to democracy."

And, "We the People must say, 'This is not who we are'."

Amen, Brother, to both. Just doesn't sound like you know who 'We the People' are.

Gov. DeSantis Calls Biden's Speech 'Disgusting' and 'Disrespectful'
[Townhall] Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla) hit back at President Joe Biden’s eerie speech in which he took basically the whole time to demonize Republican MAGA supporters.

During an appearance on Fox News, DeSantis said Biden’s speech was on the most "disgusting" speeches he has ever heard.

"One of the most disgusting speeches an American president has ever given...[Biden made] a partisan attack on half the country," DeSantis said.

"He ran as being a unifier and he’s basically saying to the vast majority of the country that disapproves of him, that they’re effectively a threat to the republic...he dodders, he lashes out, but at the end of the day, his policies are why there’s so much opposition to him," DeSantis continued to say.

The Florida governor then expressed his fury with the President, claiming that he is a failed leader and has hurt millions of Americans.

"He came in and he opened the border, and we’ve seen what a disaster that’s been; he kneecapped American energy, we’ve seen how that’s hurt millions and millions of people across our country; they’ve inflated the currency, we have one of the worst inflations we’ve had in over 40 years, DeSantis said, adding "of course people are going to be upset at all the wreckage that he’s left in his wake. He is the American Nero. He’s a failed leader. And I think that he is doing this because he’s trying to energize his base to fend off a real butt whipping this November."

During Biden’s Thursday night speech, he blamed the nation’s problems entirely on former President Trump who is threatening the U.S.’ democracy.
