[BLAZE] If you spent any time on social media in the past week, then you probably scrolled by a video that has clearly captured the heart of America.
Country musician Oliver Anthony went from unknown to the top of the iTunes charts after his song, "Rich Men North of Richmond," went viral overnight.
The song features lyrics like "Lord, we got folks in the street, ain’t got nothing to eat/And the obese milking welfare," and "Well God, if you’re 5-foot-3 and you’re 300 pounds/Taxes ought not to pay for your bags of fudge rounds."
Anthony also seems to hint at his disgust regarding Epstein and his associates with the line, "I wish politicians would look out for miners/And not just minors on an island somewhere."
However, while the working class celebrated Anthony's truth-telling, the journalists got to work.
They attempted to paint Anthony as right-wing, despite the fact that he identifies as center and believes both sides have been ruined by corruption.

Read the order in all companies, squadrons, batteries, squadrons, commands and headquarters. So was Order No. 270 of August 16, 1941, really necessary? After all, even after the order, Soviet military leaders were captured, and after the order the Red Army suffered bitter defeats.
One thing can be said: it was dictated by the ideas of the Soviet command about the situation that had developed at that time. And about whether these ideas were correct, everyone is free to draw conclusions on their own.

[Shafaq News] The difficulty in comparing America’s and China’s influence in the Middle East is that the two operate on entirely different planes. [Note: The Chinese use the term Western Asia, rather than the Middle East, to refer to a region that includes the Levant, Iraq, the Gulf, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... and Iran.] Despite China’s impressive naval construction program, China cannot challenge American dominance of the seas within any definable time horizon. There is no indication that China has or soon will develop the capability to put boots on the ground in the region. At the same time, China’s economic and technological presence has jumped during the past several years, and the United States cannot compete with China in critical areas such as broadband infrastructure.
THE MILITARY BALANCE
China’s military presence in the Middle East remains small. Its 200 marines at the Djibouti naval base are on standby for anti-piracy and civilian rescue operations. China reported has sponsored the creation of a joint maritime force including Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... , Iran, the UAE, and Oman, but has committed no ships to the project. A February 2013 note from the American Enterprise Institute observes, "Current Chinese basing capacity and force commitment in the region seem insufficient to support the level of economic and diplomatic engagement that appears to be Beijing’s new normal, so Washington should prepare for further expansion." There have been rumors about plans for a Chinese naval base in the UAE, so far unconfirmed.
The latest Pentagon assessment of China’s military does not predict an expansion of China’s expeditionary capability. China has just 30,000 marines versus America’s 200,000, and perhaps 12,000 special forces versus America’s 70,000.
In August 2014, President Obama complained that China was a "free rider" in the Persian Gulf, letting the United States bear the cost of a blue-water fleet that protected China’s oil supplies The charge was fair: Although China has dramatically increased its military spending, its commitments to the Middle East remain de minimus. China remains a free rider. If the American commitment to protect shipping lanes erodes, China may step in, but that remains hypothetical. For the time being China will devote the bulk of its military resources to coastal defense, including medium- and long-range missiles, the J-20 interceptor, satellites, electronic warfare and submarines.
In the meantime, China’s position is that its interests in the region do not conflict with America’s. Pan Guang of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, told the "Observer" website in 2022: "China’s economic investment and US military investment can complement each other in some places, such as in the Gulf countries. [Breitbart] Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) is arguing that the American left is working to diminish farmers’ role in the United States.
In an interview that aired on Mobile, AL radio FM Talk 106.5, Alabama’s senior U.S. Senator touted the importance of the farm bill legislation but said some of his colleagues were looking to alternate forms of nutrition, including insects, to feed Americans.
“[Y]ou’re seeing a lot of these politicians, especially some of my colleagues on the left, say, ‘Hey, we really don’t need farmers. You know, our food is pretty good that comes out of Kroger’s,'” he said. “They have no clue where food comes from. The Chinese are buying up our farmland because they’re trying to feed 1.5 billion people. And we’ve got to keep our eye on small business, which is small farmers across this country. If we lose the small farmers, corporations will take over.”
“I don’t whether you’ve seen this or not — I’ve seen these studies. They’re growing these insects to start feeding us insects,” Tuberville continued. “The last 10 years, they’ve really gotten into that. They think there’s more protein in that than there is in chicken or meat or soybeans. It is absolutely ridiculous what this left is trying to do to us.”

1 guy asked what type / kinda of bugs they were. Then about 30 mins later the ad was flagged for abuse and removed.

[World Socialist Website] As more facts about the death and destruction and what caused the Maui wildfires emerged, amid growing public outrage over the US government’s criminally inadequate response, President Joe Biden boasted on Tuesday of pathetic “one-time payments of $700 per household” for those who have lost everything in the disaster.
Authorities reported on Tuesday that one-third of the burn area in the town of Lahaina had been searched for victims, and the number of confirmed dead had risen to 101. Hawaii Governor Josh Green told CNN on Monday evening that the number of confirmed deaths could double over the next 10 days.
Maui County reported that just four of the sets of remains found have been identified so far. The identities of these individuals will be released after families have been notified.
Among those who died were four members of the same family, who were engulfed while trying to escape the flames, according to a statement released to CNN affiliate Hawaii News Now. “On behalf of our family, we bid aloha to our beloved parents, Faaso and Malui Fonua Tone, as well as our dear sister Salote Takafua and her son, Tony Takafua,” the statement read.
Another victim, Franklin “Frankie” Trejos, 68, who had lived in Lahaina for 30 years, had tried to save his property, along with his friend and roommate, Perez Grant. Grant escaped the blaze while suffering burns, only to discover the remains of his friend several blocks away.
The painstaking process of identifying the dead was highlighted when county investigators reported that they had obtained the DNA profiles of 13 more people, and a total of 41 DNA samples had been obtained from the family members of those who are unaccounted for. Meanwhile, there are still more than 1,000 people missing, and thousands more have been left homeless.
Three climate change-fueled wildfires that began on August 8 were whipped into a firestorm by winds from passing Hurricane Dora, destroying the town of Lahaina. So far, an estimated 4.45 square miles has been burned. Two of the three fires are still burning, with firefighters working by ground and air to contain the blazes and looking for hot spots and flare-ups.
Fire officials said the Lahaina fire, the largest of the three at 3.39 square miles, had been 85 percent contained by Tuesday. The Upcountry/Kula fire, which has burned just over a square mile and destroyed 19 homes, was 65 percent contained.
On Tuesday, President Biden, who refused to comment on the devastation in Maui on Monday, expressed the indifference of the White House to the disaster while speaking to the media at a previously scheduled event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Fumbling his way through an overview of the thoroughly inadequate response of federal authorities to the crisis on the Hawaiian island, Biden said FEMA authorized “one-time payments of $700 per household to those who have been displaced so they can do the immediate things,” like obtain the medications they need. He then announced that he and his wife would eventually travel to Maui to survey the damage, but gave no firm date for a trip.
On a Twitter/X post earlier in the day, Biden claimed the administration was “laser-focused” on providing aid to survivors of the Maui wildfire, including the one-time payment, “during an unimaginably difficult time.”
Quite probably President Biden has no idea what is being done or planned to be done. In the meantime, as always, nearby communities are acting to succor those in need — the feds generally take weeks to months to get aid in after a disaster.

Hearing many locals reporting on Twitter/X how they aren't getting any help, FEMA turning many away or not seeing helicopters bringing in supplies is quite different from what the news is reporting.

I live in upcountry Maui, and the cur is right.
You set off the sirens. People know that usually means a long lead time until arrival of the tsunami. They will probably not just start running. They'll pack a few things, get in their cars, and try to get to higher ground. Then they see the fire ahead of them. But now you have a traffic jam of people who are all headed toward the fire.
Sirens are a low-information warning, good for alerting to a threat with a known source and requiring a known action. When there's a tsunami warning the threat comes from the ocean; get away from it. A tornado warning means a threat comes from the sky; get indoors to shelter. A fire warning means...what? Which way is the fire? If you already know there's a fire, you don't need the siren to tell you.
This is not to argue for the competence of any officials, but he is right about this one.

The fire came within 3 miles of me. I only found that out later, and was astounded; I would have thought the wind would carry it in a different direction. I was without phone service of any kind for several hours on the 9th -- no landline, no cell. My internet was down for almost a week. (The horror, the horror!)
If the tsunami sirens had sounded on the 9th -- I live above 3000 ft, but we have a tsunami siren -- it wouldn't have occurred to me to connect it to the fire. I would have thought, "All this, and a tsunami too??"
