Texas Sect thought Morman Church founded by Bring Em Young
Forced marriage and sexual abuse were "pervasive" inside the Texas compound of a polygamist sect raided last week by investigators, according to child welfare officials seeking custody of more than 400 children removed from the religious group's sprawling YFZ Ranch.

In a harrowing District Court affidavit, a Child Protective Services investigator charged that the children were placed in risk of "emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse" at the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints facility, where female children were groomed to "accept spiritual marriages to adult male members of the YFZ Ranch resulting in them being sexually abused."

Similarly, investigator Lynn McFadden noted, young men on the YFZ Ranch were "spiritually married to minor female children," with whom they engaged in sexual relationships, becoming, in the process, sexual "perpetrators." The McFadden affidavit, which was filed today in court, was provided to TSG by the San Angelo Standard-Times. A copy of the document can be found below.

The government raid on the compound was triggered after a 16-year-old mother called a family violence center and reported that she had been abused by her 50-year-old husband and was seeking help in departing the property, according to the affidavit. The girl, who has yet to be located, identified her abuser as Dale Barlow, a 50-year-old registered sex offender who pleaded no contest last year to conspiring to have sex with a minor.

#2  These people have as close a relationship to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as voodoo practitioners in Haiti have to the Vatican. That is to say, absolutely none. GBUSMC, your headline is misleading and slanderous. Is that deliberate?
Posted by: Pancho Elmeck8414 || 04/09/2008 18:23 Comments || Top||

#3  I meant it to be slanderous to a pedophile sect, not the Mormon Church. These people called themselves Latter-day Saints but they have nothing to do with the Church, they are lower than whale shit.

Whether it's Fundamentalist David Koresh or Catholic Priests, pedophilia is a scourge that cannot be left free of scorn. They all defile the message of Christ.

#4  Agreed - I'm Catholic, not Mormon, so I have no gain/loss, but that headline is awfully misleading. The Jeffs' sect is a split off because the real LDS church doesn't allow the awful practices that are the basis of the charges here. Don't taint the real LDS church for the acts of people they are not associated with

#5  GolfBravoUSMC - glad to see your response, and agree. Also, the Catholic priest pedophile scandal is an outrage.

C-130 used to ferry obese woman to hospital
After deeming an ailing woman too obese for ambulances or even light planes, paramedics responsible for transporting her to the hospital fell upon a last resort: heavy-duty military airlift.

Only a C-130 Hercules cargo plane could transport the 528-pound Australian woman from her northwest mining town to Townsville, a city in the Queensland province.

The Hercules is capable of transporting more than 37,000 pounds and is typically used to move troops and heavy cargo.

The Australian Defence Force, which deployed the C-130 from Sydney, likely spent nearly $100,000 U.S., according to The Courier-Mail newspaper. Though deemed safe to travel by road, no ambulance could fit her and the woman would have damaged the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s light planes.

Manhole Covers, Grates Stolen in North Carolina
Police in Greensboro, N.C., are investigating the disappearances of more than 75 cast-iron manhole covers and storm water grates from city streets. The items are most likely being stolen and sold to scrap metal companies for cash, according to local officials.

"There is a market somewhere for these lids, and they are a high commodity," said Tim Elmore of Greensboro Field Operations.

Police are questioning local metal companies in order to help determine potential leads. It has cost the city $60 per cover and grate to replace stolen ones, and the thefts have cost Greensboro taxpayers more than $5,000, according to Elmore.

"It's really becoming a distraction, and it's now getting our maintenance budget," he said. "We didn't budget for this."
Scrap steel prices are around $300/ton., so a manhole cover is worth about $15 or so as scrap. But look at the good side of it, it is all being recycled......

Europe
Germany gets first autobahn speed limit
For the first time in the country's roadway history, a German state has set a speed limit on their autobahns.

On Wednesday, the smallest German state of Bremen, which has just 60 kilometres of autobahn, will begin enforcing a speed limit of 120 kilometres per hour (75 miles per hour) on the highway between the cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven.

"Our goal is to work with other states to set speed limits on autobahns in all of Germany," said Bremen environmental officer Rienhard Loske on Wednesday.

In addition to the environmental benefit of reduced emissions through slower speeds, Loske said that "the danger for deadly accidents is greatly reduced on every stretch of road that has a speed limit."
Posted by: mrp || 04/09/2008 09:34 || Comments || Link || [5 views] Top|| File under:

#1  First of all, there are speed limits all over the Autobahn, based on road conditions, temporary and permanent. But more importantly, there is a *subjective* speed limit that is a killer.

If the police think that you are "driving faster than the safe speed of your vehicle", and thus creating a hazard, they will pull you over and give you a ticket that will knock your socks off.

There are a few automobile offenses in Germany that have obscenely high fines, and this is one of them. Thousands of Euros. They aren't kidding.

But it sounds like this guy is just another eco-scoundrel.

Posted by: Anonymoose || 04/09/2008 10:48 Comments || Top||

#2  Actually not that obscene. The highest fine for speeding would be 475 euros, and a three month suspension of your license.
Posted by: Omoque Pelosi8695 || 04/09/2008 14:40 Comments || Top||

#3  If I recall correctly, if the police pull you over while driving drunk, they take your license. You can figure out how to get to work for the rest of your life after you sober up. To the Germans, driving is a privilege, not a right.

#1  They are making inroads in a lot of places in as inconspicuous fashion as possible. Minneapolis is one. Chicago, L.A., Tucson. Dearborn has been co-opted. Obviously, this indoctrination academy ought to be closed tomorrow. The rules are in place, but no one is inspecting. A fifteen minute visit would suffice to draw a correct conclusion. If nothing is done, merely look at England. It began this way there also. Now they have one hell of a mess.

Prominent gender-switching activist switches from Hillary to Obama
A prominent Maryland transgender activist has left Sen. Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and begun stumping for Sen. Barack Obama.
("Stumping?" Bad word choice, if you think about it.)
Dana Beyer, an Equality Maryland board member who is transgender, announced last week she
(formerly "he")
was leaving Clinton’s gay steering committee to join Obama’s gay leadership council. “It’s time to stop squabbling amongst ourselves, pull together and take back the presidency,” she
(formerly "he")
wrote in a letter explaining her
(his)
decision. “I say this with respect for the Clintons, and I say it as a woman
(formerly "man")
who has had to be surgically altered fight every day of her life to simply be a woman, and be recognized as one, let alone a strong one.”
"'Course, when I was a guy, I could bench press two hundred, but we won't talk about that."
Beyer, whose affiliation with Clinton’s campaign was announced in November, said she’s received no negative reactions to the switch. “I haven’t heard anything negative from my Clinton-supporting friends,
(That's because they've stopped speaking to you.)
and I’ve gotten a lot of support from my Obama-supporting friends,” she said.

India-Pakistan
A house divided
THIS year’s Holy Week (March 16 to 22), the week that precedes Easter Sunday, was observed as “untouchability protest week” in parts of northern Tamil Nadu. This was in response to a call given by the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Dalit Christians’ Liberation Movement to highlight the plight of Dalits in the Christian community. At least 10 churches in Cuddalore and Villupuram districts had to go without or curtail the ceremonies that usually begin with Palm Sunday, celebrated in commemoration of the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. In some places Dalits hoisted black flags atop churches and in a few others they locked up the places of worship. Demanding justice to Dalit Christians, VCK general secretary Thol. Thirumavalavan led a demonstration on March 19 near the Bishop’s House in Puducherry, the headquarters of the Archdiocese of Pondicherry and Cuddalore.

The immediate provocation for the protest was violence against Dalits by “upper caste” (Vanniar) Christians at Eraiyur in Villupuram district on March 9. In the police firing that followed, two Vanniar Christians were killed.

Dalit Christians of the village have been on a fast since March 7 demanding that the Archbishop recognise the Sagaya Matha Chapel they had built for a new Dalit parish in the village. Their complaint was that they were not treated as equals by the Vanniar Christians within the Church of Our Lady of Rosary, the present Eraiyur parish church, located in the centre of Eraiyur. Archbishop Anthony Aanandarayar was firm that there could not be two churches for the same order in one village.

Workers kill Hindu colleague for 'blasphemy'
Dozens of Muslim workers at a factory in Karachi beat to death a Hindu colleague on Tuesday for alleged blasphemy, officials said.

Jagdish Kumar, 25, was tortured and killed at the garments factory after a debate on religion became heated, police and hospital officials said. “About 1,500 workers at the factory in the Korangi industrial area beat to death the Hindu worker over [allegations of] blasphemy,” police superintendent Farrukh Bashir said. The mob was trying to burn the body when officers arrived and took it away, Bashir added. Police had made several arrests, he said, without giving numbers.

Apparently, truer words were never spoken when arguing religion with a Muslim. If you do not declare that God is one and Mohammed is His prophet, you are blaspheming, and can be killed.
