Harry Reid blames GOP for slow job growth
Posted by: ryuge || 09/09/2012 00:59 || Comments || Link || [2 views] Top|| File under:

#1  He's correct - GOP intransigence to even bigger spending increases prevented more new government workers from being hired. (Of course it also prevented even more private sector workers from losing their jobs, but those jobs don't count in Dem statistics.)

Obama's struggle to avoid wasting the debt ceiling crisis
By Bob Woodward
Posted by: ryuge || 09/09/2012 00:20 || Comments || Link || [2 views] Top|| File under:

#1  Oh, rats! *I* wanted to post that!

The Narcissist in Chief, exposed.
Obama objected, saying that he couldn’t be left out of the process. “I’ve got to sign this bill,” he reminded the leaders as they sat in the Cabinet Room off the Oval Office.

“Mr. President,” Boehner challenged, “as I read the Constitution, the Congress writes the laws. You get to decide if you want to sign them.”

He wanted to do it all, and get all the credit.

Reid spoke up. The congressional leaders want to speak privately, he said. Give us some time. The leaders were asking the president to leave the meeting he had called in the White House.

Fine, Obama said. Talk. Knock yourselves out.

Before the meeting, without telling Obama, the four leaders had tentatively agreed on the framework of a deal. The congressional plan guaranteed that the debt limit would have to be revisited during the 2012 presidential campaign, and Obama was insisting that any agreement would have to take the country through the election.

Apparently, someone leaked the plan to The One.

Around 10 p.m., Obama called Boehner. I am not going to sign a bill that requires me to deal with the debt ceiling a second time before the election, the president told him. He was furious.

“Listen,” Boehner said he told Obama, “I understand it. All right? But you’re not going to have a choice. We’ve got an agreement.”

The speaker recalled, “He was moaning and groaning and whining and demanding . . . threatening. . . . He was pretty desperate.” Obama again said he would veto such a bill.

We’re too close to default to reopen the talks, Boehner said. Congress is going to move forward on its own.

At this point, I have saved you the cost of buying Woodward's book, or even going to the WaPo site and putting up with the ads and wading through five pages. In the interests of fair and balanced, I report, you decide, I offer the following rebuttal.

Asked recently about Boehner’s description of their late-night call, Obama said, “Listen, anybody who knows me knows I don’t moan, I don’t groan, I don’t whine.”

No, he gets even. This can't be good for Obumble, featured on the front page of the Washington Post.

Unfortunately, his worshipers Kool-Aid drinkers won't care, Bobby. They'll blame the Repubs.

McCaskill: I've asked Obama to come and campaign in Missouri
[The Hill] Sen. Claire McCaskill
...Now, why would I pay taxes on my airplane? Send the bill to the taxpayers!...
(D-Mo.) says she would "welcome" a visit by President B.O. in her home state.

McCaskill was speaking to news hounds in Missouri Friday when she said she had asked the president to come and campaign there.

"I've asked him to [campaign for her in Missouri]," McCaskill said, according to local radio station KMOX. "They have made a decision so far in the campaign to focus on those states they won last time. But certainly I would welcome him here to campaign."

The Missouri senator's comments came a day after the last day of the Democratic National Convention, which McCaskill did not attend. McCaskill stressed that her absence from the nominating convention was not about distancing herself from the president while she's in a close race.

"Obviously, I did not go to the convention, but it wasn't because I don't support the President. It's because I've never gone to a convention when I had a contested race," McCaskill said.
