[DEALBOOK.NYTIMES] A bankruptcy trustee has sued Jon S. Corzine and other former MF Global executives, claiming they were "grossly negligent" in the lead-up to the brokerage firm's collapse.
The action by the trustee, Louis J. Freeh, comes just weeks after he agreed to postpone the lawsuit and enter mediation with Mr. Corzine. Now, by filing litigation that appeared to catch the MF Global executives off-guard, Mr. Freeh may have jeopardized those talks.
A front man for Mr. Corzine, Steven Goldberg, disputed the accusations and questioned why Mr. Freeh was even bringing the case. "We question why the trustee chose to file this lawsuit, which is filled with seriously flawed allegations, while he is participating in court-ordered mediation of these very claims."

Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakahns son, Mustapha Farrakahn, is being investigated by the Illinois Police Standards and Training Board after an investigation into his part-time status as a police officer in the Chicago suburb of Harvey, IL, revealed he has not worked a shift for the department in over four years.
The Sun-Times reported on Monday it learned Farrakahan was hired by the Harvey Police Department in 2007 and subsequently logged only nine hours on the job that year. Farrakahan then worked 118 ½ hours in 2008, after which he stopped working completely. However, Farrakahan is still registered and able to carry a concealed firearm in the only state in the nation in which regular citizens can not do the same.
Farrakahn also has a taxpayer funded unmarked black squad car, which he uses to block traffic and escort his father Louis Farrakahns unofficial motorcade in the City of Chicago.

Similarly, the proportion willing to classify his performance as "poor" now stands at 36 percent, the highest since we began tracking respect among the voting public for the job the Senator is doing in Washington.
Additionally, 67 percent of Arizonans now opine that Arizona needs to elect someone to the U.S. Senate with new ideas and interests. Only 21
percent now believe that John McCain deserves another six year term. This view is shared across the state in that the proportion saying they would prefer a new U.S. Senator reaches 72 percent in Maricopa county, 67 percent in Pima county and 58 percent in the rural counties. Further, 61 percent of those are registered Republicans and 67 percent call themselves politically conservative hold the same view.

I've been ready for John to retire since he held his tongue while the media eviscerated G. W. Bush over the "torture" at Abu Ghraib where captive Iraqis had their genitals laughed at and were forced to stand on boxes naked. The good Senator knows exactly what torture is and he could have shut them the hell up right then. He had a bone to pick with Bush, so he let them go on and on. He lost my respect that day.

Only 21 percent now believe that John McCain deserves another six year term
They had a primary choice just the last time around. He didn't deserve the last reelection. The Trunks of AZ bought the BS as he danced and lied his way to retain the seat. It's their problem.
Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain got off to an awkward start in 2006, when McCain believed that Obama had broken a promise to work with him on ethics reform. The tensions escalated in 2008 during the pairs presidential face-off, and relations stayed frosty through McCains 2010 reelection campaign and his partys marked swerve to the right.
But then Obama was reelected, and the landscape for both men shifted. Now, after years at cross-purposes, they both have history on their minds. Obama, with big plans on immigration, guns, universal pre-K, trade deals, tax reform, entitlements, and the implementation of his health care law, is eyeing his legacy. McCain, who is 76 and may or may not run for reelection in 2016, says repeatedly these days that he wants to get things done and has reverted to his role as a bipartisan deal-maker.
McCain has his own To Do list, and its not identical to Obamas (heightened involvement in Syria, anyone?). But already, several major areas of overlap have emerged, on immigration, guns, tax reform, and entitlements. Climate change, once one of McCains legislative passions, could also resurface as a mutual interest. So while theres certainly no Obama-McCain bromance, there is a functional relationship that gets both men closer to their policy goals.

In his first ad in his race for South Carolina's first congressional district, Sanford said," I've experienced how none of us go through life without mistakes." He believed in a "God of second chances." We first saw Sanford's confessional tendencies in his presser announcing this Argentinian affair that drove him from office in 2009. But his endless confessions work for Oprah's couch, not for politics. A new poll shows Elizabeth Colbert-Busch beating him 50 percent to 41 percent.
In his full-page ad, Sanford says, "This week's news caught everyone by surprise as the mechanics of my and Jenny's divorce had been sealed to avoid the boys having to deal with any of this." That's now unavoidable, apparently. Last week, the News Agency that Dare Not be Named broke the news that Sanford had to go to court for trespassing on ex-wife Jenny Sanford's property. (They're not allowed on each other's property without permission.) Sanford explains, as he began to explain last week, that he was just taking his son to his mom's house to watch the Super Bowl.

[THEHILL] Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) suggested on Earth Day that the Senate should spend more time talking about climate change issues.
"I'm here to suggest we talk more about climate change so that we can agree on taking action to address it," Franken said Monday. "The Senate cannot afford to ignore climate change, we need to talk about it."
Franken pointed out that 98 out of 100 scientist say climate change is real and needs to be dealt with. He said people outside Washington, D.C., understand this.
"Many of my other colleagues I suspect don't talk about climate change because it would require making some difficult choices," Franken said. "If we don't act now it will be far more costly later."

The trial is underway for a former Democratic official and a Board of Elections worker who are accused of being part of a plot that has raised questions over whether President B.O.'s campaign -- when he was a candidate in 2008 -- submitted enough legitimate signatures to have legally qualified for the presidential primary ballot.
The two face charges of orchestrating an illegal scheme to fake the petitions that enabled then-candidates Obama, and Hillary Clinton ... sometimes described as The Heroine of Tuzla and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Frederick T. Frelinghuysen ... , to qualify for the race in Indiana.
Former longtime St. Joseph County Democratic Party Chairman Butch Morgan Jr. faces multiple felony conspiracy counts to commit petition fraud, and former county Board of Elections worker Dustin Blythe is charged with nine felony forgery counts and one felony count of falsely making a petition of nomination. The proceedings began Monday in South Bend.
Two former Board of Elections officials have already pleaded guilty to charges related to the scheme and could testify against Morgan and Blythe.
The alleged scheme was hatched in January of 2008, according to affidavits from Sherlocks who cite former Board of Registration worker Lucas Burkett, who told them he was in on the plan at first, but then became uneasy and quit. He waited three years before telling authorities about it, but if revelations about any forgeries were raised during the election, the petitions could have been challenged during the contest. Any candidate who did not qualify with enough legitimate signatures at the time could have been bounced from the ballot.
The Indiana trial has raised questions about whether in 2008, candidate Obama actually submitted enough legitimate signatures to have legally qualified.
Under state law, presidential candidates need to qualify for the primary ballots with 500 signatures from each of the state's nine congressional districts. Indiana election officials say that in St. Joseph County, which is the 2nd Congressional District, the Obama campaign qualified with 534 signatures; Clinton's camp had 704.
Prosecutors say that in Obama's case, nine of the petition pages were apparently forged. Each petition contains up to 10 names, making a possible total of 90 names, which, if faked, could have brought the Obama total below the legal limit required to qualify. Prosecutors say 13 Clinton petitions were apparently forged, meaning up to 130 possibly fake signatures. Even if 130 signatures had been challenged, it would have still left Clinton with enough signatures to meet the 500-person threshold.
Numerous voters told Fox News that they never signed the petitions.
Even a former Democratic Governor of Indiana, Joe Kernan, told Fox News that his name was forged.
The allegations were first uncovered by Indiana native and Yale University senior Ryan Nees, who wrote about the revelations for the political newsletter, Howey Politics Indiana.
"What's worrisome about this scheme is that it wasn't a single bad actor going rogue. Rather, four people were charged as co-conspirators, and two of the four have already pleaded guilty," Nees told Fox News.
Nees believes that had the petitions been challenged during the presidential election, "it's unlikely either candidate would have qualified for the ballot."
"The senator's retirement comes as a bit of a surprise. He'd just raised a hefty $1.5 million and has nearly $5 million on hand. Baucus was the last remaining Democratic senator who faced serious questions about whether he'd run for reelection." It's no surprise. Baucus co-authored ObamaCare, and he wouldn't have been able to keep his head above water with that millstone around his neck.

"The people who are worried about privacy have a legitimate worry," Mr. Bloomberg said during a presser in Midtown. "But we live in a complex world where you're going to have to have a level of security greater than you did back in the olden days, if you will. And our laws and our interpretation of the Constitution, I think, have to change."
Mr. Bloomberg, who has come under fire for the N.Y.P.D.'s monitoring of Moslem communities and other aggressive tactics, said the rest of the country needs to learn from the attacks. The people of Noo Yawk elected this dork to be mayor three times running. He is the successor to Rudy Giuliani who was entirely too modest and law-abiding to break the two-term limit.
