47 People Rescued From Taliban Prisons In Baghlan, Kunduz
[ToloNews] Forty-seven prisoners were released from Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
prisoners in Afghan forces operations in northern Baghlan and Kunduz provinces.

In the operation in Baghlan, 34 people were rescued from a Taliban prison. The operation was carried out by the police on Monday night, the provincial police said in a statement on Tuesday.

Seven army soldiers, seven coppers, three NDS personnel and 17 civilians were among those freed, Baghlan police said in a statement.

In a separate operation by Afghan Army’s Special Unit in northern Kunduz province, 13 people were rescued, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Tuesday.

This comes as the Afghan government released 38 Taliban prisoners in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
and another 170 inmates of the group in Kabul on Monday.

The Taliban prisoners were released on the order of President Ghani as he announced earlier this month that up to 900 Taliban prisoners were released as part of a goodwill gesture for peace.

The move, however, has faced criticism by analysts who say it is a unilateral decision.
Khaama Press adds:
The Afghan Special Forces stormed a Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
prison in Kunduz province and rescued 13 prisoners.

The Special Operations Corps in a statement said the Special Forces stormed the Taliban prison in Aaqtash district.

The statement further added that the Special Forces conducted the operation late on Monday night.

The anti-government armed turbans including Taliban have not commented regarding the operation.

This comes as the Special Forces have conducted similar operations in other provinces during the recent weeks and have freed dozens of hostages from Taliban prisons.

over the past 45 days, provincial officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The festivities have occurred in Khogyani and Shinwari districts in Nangarhar, local officials said.

The displaced families are living in Sheikh Mesri township in Sorkhrod district in the province.

"At least 13,00 families have been displaced due to festivities in Shirzad and Khogyani districts in the past one and a half months and have been settled on the outskirts of Jalalabad city," said Najibullah Qayumi, head of the provincial Directorate of Refugees and Repatriation.

Members of a number of displaced families said they are living in a bad condition.

Etabar Khan, member of a displaced family, said they left their home a month ago after festivities erupted between Taliban and ISIS turbans.

The displaced families called on relevant organizations to provide them assistance.

"We left our home due to festivities and now three families are living in one room," said Mazhar, a resident of Khogyani who has been displaced.

Questions Raised As High Profile Taliban Member Goes Missing in Faryab
[ToloNews] Skepticisms rose after an ex-Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
designated governor Qari Salahuddin beat feet from a jail run by members of the Afghan intelligence agency, the National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
, in Faryab province.

Based on reports, Salahuddin who spent four years in NDS detention has rejoined the Taliban on the battlefield.

Following the dramatic escape of Salahuddin, over 80 members of the Afghan National Army (ANA) were also released from a Taliban jail in Qaisar district of Faryab, a development which has fueled rumors that release of ANA forces and civilians from the Taliban custody might be related to the release of the Taliban member.

"People have doubt that Qari Salahuddin was released as a result of a political deal and named it escaping. People know that Qari Salahuddin returned to Faryab and is engaged in his destructive activities," said former Faryab governor Rahmatullah

"He [Salahuddin] was an influential guy in the area. He has power and influence. Of course, he will join the Taliban and will continue fighting the government," said political analyst Hassan Haqyar.

More than 200 Taliban prisoners have been released by government since Monday, June 10.

President Ghani ordered the release of almost 900 Taliban prisoners last week and said he made the decision on the demand of 3,200 delegates of the grand council for peace held late in April.

Meanwhile,
...back at the cheese factory, all the pieces finally fell together in Fluffy's mind...
almost 400 people have been rescued from Taliban prisons in different parts of the country over the past two weeks.

"There is possibility that similar deal was made in exchange for the release of these prisoners so that the Taliban will provide the ground for voters in favor of Mr. Ghani on the election day and to pave the way for filling ballot boxes, an experience we had in the past and it looks likely now as well," said Nazari Paryani, a journalist.

"So far, nine operations were carried out on detention centers of armed opponents and enemies of this country. Nearly 400 people were rescued," said Zubair Arif, a front man for Ministry of Defense.

The Taliban has welcomed the move but has not commented on the release of civilians and members of the Afghan forces from their prisons.

Roadside Bombing In Kandahar Leaves Six Dead
[ToloNews] At least six people were killed in a roadside kaboom blast in Kandahar province on Tuesday morning, local officials said.

The blast occurred at around 9am Kabul time in Dand district when a civilian vehicle was hit by a roadside kaboom.

Two women, two young men and two children were killed in the blast, security officials confirmed.

According to the officials, all victims are members of one family.

So far, no group has grabbed credit for the attack.
An Nahar adds:
The vehicle was travelling from Kandahar's Dand district to the bucolic provincial capital when the bomb detonated near the car, killing everyone inside, according to provincial police front man Qasim Afghan.

Haji Abdullah, governor of Dand district, said the bomb was placed by the Taliban on a road frequently used by foreign and Afghan forces.

Years of conflict have left Afghanistan strewn with landmines, unexploded mortars, rockets and homemade bombs -- and many are picked up by curious children.

Last month, a landmine explosion killed seven children and wounded two others after one of the victims stepped on the ordnance in southern Afghanistan’s Ghazni.

According to the United Nations, almost 4,000 civilians -- including more than 900 children -- were killed in Afghanistan last year, with another 7,000 wounded, making it the deadliest year to date for civilians in Afghanistan's conflict.

Arabia
Yemen war: Houthi missile attack on Saudi airport 'injures 26'
[BBC] At least 26 civilians have been injured in a missile attack by Yemen's rebel Houthi movement on an airport in south-west Saudi Arabia, the military says.

Three women and two children were among those hurt when the arrivals hall at Abha airport was hit early on Wednesday, according to a statement.

The rebels said they had launched a cruise missile at the facility.

Saudi Arabia leads a coalition of Arab states backing Yemen's government in its four-year war with the Houthis.

Yemen has been devastated by a conflict that escalated in March 2015, when the rebels seized control of much of the west of the country and forced President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi to flee abroad.

Alarmed by the rise of a group they believed to be backed militarily by regional Shia power Iran, Saudi Arabia and eight other mostly Sunni Arab states began an air campaign aimed at restoring Mr Hadi's government.

Coalition military spokesman Col Turki al-Maliki said a projectile fired by the Houthis hit Abha International Airport at 02:21 on Wednesday (23:21 GMT on Tuesday), according to a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency.

Col Maliki said the attack on a civilian airport, which is about 110km (70 miles) from the border with Yemen, was a violation of international humanitarian law and that it might constitute a war crime.

Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV cited rebel military spokesman Brig-Gen Yahia Sari as saying it was a cruise missile.

Al-Masirah said it was the second time the Houthis had fired a cruise missile. The first reportedly targeted a nuclear power plant under construction in Abu Dhabi in 2017. There were no reports of a missile reaching the emirate at the time.

In response, the coalition launched air strikes on the rebel-held Yemeni capital, Sanaa, which reportedly killed at least six people, including four children.

The UN says the fighting in Yemen has left at least 7,000 civilians dead and 11,000 injured. About 65% of the deaths have been attributed to coalition air strikes.

The Daily Mail has photos.

France busts neo-Nazi cell over plot against Jewish, Muslim places of worship
[IsraelTimes] Five members charged with terror offenses between September and May, legal source says, adding that plan was ill-defined.

French police have busted a neo-Nazi
...adherents of a philosophy that was seen even at the time as pure evil, which makes them either consciously and purely evil, or attention-seeking ratbags. Pick one, or both....
cell accused of plotting attacks on Jewish or Moslem places of worship, legal sources said Tuesday.

Five members of the group, who were "close in ideology to the neo-Nazi movement" were charged between September and May over the alleged plot, a source close to the investigation said.

"The investigation suggested they were developing an ill-defined plot to carry out an attack, likely to target a place of worship," the judicial source said.

The sources gave no details of specific targets or motives.

Police in the southeastern city of Grenoble first arrested a man on weapons charges in September 2018. The investigation led them to the four other suspects, two of them minors.

Anti-terrorism Sherlocks took over the investigation in January and charged the suspects with terror offenses, including making and transporting bombs and being part of a terrorist conspiracy. The case was only announced publicly Tuesday.

While La Belle France has repeatedly been targeted by jihadists since 2015, a handful of alleged plots involving far-right hard boyz have made headlines in recent months.

In November, six people were arrested over an alleged plot to attack President Emmanuel Macron.

In July 2017, a 23-year-old was charged with plotting to assassinate the president at La Belle France’s Bastille Day military parade. The man told Sherlocks he wanted to kill Macron along with "Moslems, Jews, blacks and homosexuals," and three kitchen knives were found in his car.

In June 2018, 13 people with links to the radical Action des Forces Operationnelles (Operational Forces Action) group were arrested by anti-terrorist police over an alleged plot to attack Moslems.

Israel reels in Gaza fishing zone as arson balloons scorch south
[IsraelTimes] Israel announced Tuesday it will further scale back the Gazoo fishing zone from 10 nautical miles to six, in response to a number of arson attacks from the coastal enclave throughout the day.

"In light of the fires and the launching of incendiary balloons toward Israeli territory, this evening the permitted fishing zone for the Gazoo Strip has been reduced to six nautical miles until further notice," Israel’s military liaison to the Paleostinians said in a statement.

Over the course of Tuesday, there were seven fires in southern Israel sparked by balloon-borne incendiary devices from the Gazoo Strip, according to the local fire department.

The permitted fishing zone had been extended to 15 nautical miles last Tuesday, apparently as part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and terror groups in the Strip. A day later, in response to incendiary attacks, Israel restricted the fishing zone to 10 nautical miles, where it had remained.

For the past several months, Israel has been extending and reducing the permitted fishing zone around the Gazoo Strip as fewer or more incendiary balloons have been sent over the border.

Such arson attacks appear to violate the reported terms of an unofficial truce between Israel and terror groups in the Strip.

Accidental firefight breaks out between IDF and PA security personnel in Nablus
[IsraelTimes] Israeli troops open fire at Paleostinian security forces in overnight operation, apparently mistaking them for suspects, injuring one.

Israeli troops exchanged fire with Paleostinian security forces in the northern West Bank city of Nablus early Tuesday morning in what the Israel Defense Forces said was an apparent case of mistaken identity.

According to Paleostinian media, one of the Paleostinian security officers was injured. No Israeli soldiers were maimed in the exchange, the army said.

"During operations to arrest terrorist operatives in the city of Nablus, a firefight broke out between IDF soldiers and people who were identified by the troops as suspects. After the fact, it was determined that it was Paleostinian security services personnel," the IDF said in a statement.

"The incident will be investigated," it said.

The governor of Nablus, Ibrahim Ramadan, said that Israeli forces opened fire on a Paleostinian security services building and injured a member of the PA’s security forces.

He rejected the IDF’s claim that Paleostinians shot at the Israeli troops as well, and said the Israeli forces fired at the building "surprisingly and unjustifiably," the official PA Wafa news site reported.

"This is not the first time and will not be the last that the occupation army harms our people, but the dangerous part in this incident is that a Paleostinian military headquarters was targeted," Ramadan told the outlet.

The injured Paleostinian security officer sustained light wounds, according to Wafa.

Israeli forces later withdrew from the city.

In overnight operations throughout the West Bank, Israeli troops arrested 18 Paleostinian suspects, the army said. The IDF said they were suspected of taking part in terrorist activities, rock-throwing and participating in riots.

PA Rejects Joint Investigation With IDF Into Nablus Firefight

[Jpost] The Paleostinian Authority has rejected an offer to conduct a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the exchange of gunfire between PA security officers and IDF soldiers in Nablus.

The incident took place on Tuesday during a routine IDF operation in Nablus. Two officers belonging to the PA’s Preventive Security Force were slightly injured during the firefight, Paleostinian sources said.

The incident, he said, began when PA security officers noticed a suspicious vehicle near their headquarters in Nablus.

"When our officers became suspicious of the car, its occupants shot up them," Damiri said. "The exchange of gunfire lasted for nearly two hours after Israeli army reinforcements arrived at the scene. Our security officers acted in self-defense, and were defending Nablus and Paleostinian security."

During a tour of the building, PA Governor of Nablus Ibrahim Ramadan told reporters that a large Israeli military force surrounded the headquarters of the Preventive Security Force on Tuesday morning. “The soldiers started shooting at the building without warning and with no justification,” he said.

Ramadan denied that the PA security officers were the first to open fire. “This is a very dangerous incident against a Palestinian security installation,” he added.

Burhan Mashaki, spokesman for the PA security forces in Nablus, said that the incident took place shortly after 2.00 a.m.

“Our officers inside the building were surprised by a fierce Israeli offensive from three directions,” he said. “The soldiers opened fire without warning at all the offices of the Preventive Security Force.”

Mashaki said he did not rule out the possibility that the IDF was planning to storm the building to free Palestinians suspected of involvement in real estate transactions with Israelis.

Syrian air defense responds to Israeli attacks - report
[Jpost] Syrian air defenses responded to Israeli missile attacks on Tel al-Harah in southern Syria at 2:00 a.m. Syrian time on Wednesday morning, dropping some of the missiles, according to the Syrian state news agency SANA.

SANA also reported that Israel conducted cyber attacks on Syrian radar systems, in order to jam the Syrian radar.

Tel al-Harah provides a strategic view of the Golan Heights and the Hauran region and was recaptured by the Syrian Arab Army in July 2018, according to Sputnik news.

The area reportedly houses an air defense base, Sputnik reported.

On June 2, the IDF attacked military targets in Syria, after two rockets were launched towards Israeli territory from Syria. One of the rockets landed in the Golan Heights, while the other fell in Syrian territory.

Jamaa Islamiya Official Assassinated in Shebaa
[AnNahar] Unknown assailants rubbed out Jamaa Islamiya official Sheikh Mohammed Jarrar at midnight in the southern border town of Shebaa, the National News Agency said.

NNA said Jarrar, the group’s public relations official who is in charge of the Shebaa department, was bumped off while standing at the door of Shebaa’s al-Rahma Medical Dispensary which he ran.

He was hit by four gunshots to the abdomen as the attackers fled to an unknown destination, the agency added.

"The Lebanese Army has encircled the location and has intensified its foot and mechanized patrols in search of the perpetrators," NNA said.

Jamaa Islamiya meanwhile issued a statement saying Jarrar was murdered by "the hand of treachery, collaboration and treason as he was performing his duty."

"He was offering social, health, medical and relief services to every aggrieved and needy and to every widow and child from his region’s residents or from the (Syrian) refugee brothers," the statement said.

Jamaa Islamiya is the Lebanese branch of the Moslem Brüderbund, a regional Islamist organization.

It wasn't immediately clear if the killing was politically-motivated. Such liquidations have been rare in recent years in Leb.

The Jamaa Islamiya isn't represented in parliament.
