Kenyan Authorities Investigate Local Role In Nairobi Attack
[Jpost] Investigators in Kenya are exploring the possibility that some of the bandidos snuffies who attacked a Nairobi hotel and office complex may not have been ethnic Somalis, stoking fears that bandidos snuffies are deepening their pools of recruitment in the region.

Officials have released few details about the five-man assault team that carried out Tuesday's siege at the dusitD2 hotel complex,

But police, private security sources and local media reports have highlighted the involvement of a 26-year-old suspect identified in court documents as Ali Salim Gichunge, who was born and raised in central Kenya, as evidence of the group's lure to some people outside its traditional strongholds.

An officer who was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly told Rooters police were pursuing a woman suspected of ferrying weapons to Nairobi from Kiunga, near the border with Somalia, via the port city of Mombasa.

Those close to Gichunge said they were stunned when he appeared in CCTV footage of the attack toting an assault rifle and firing at a white car.

"I have a lot of questions that need answers just like everyone else," said Gichunge's sister, who was reached by phone in Mombasa. "I also saw him on TV, and we didn't expect him to be there."

The pair's father is an officer in the Kenyan military, she told Rooters.

"It is inconceivable how the son of a military man can turn out to be a member of al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
," she said.

Although raised Moslem, Gichunge began his education at a Catholic mission school in his eastern home town of Isiolo before moving to the central region of Meru for high school, where he was bullied and beaten severely, she said.

Gichunge, who also used the alias Faruk, later secured work at an internet cafe in Isiolo.

"It all started there," his sister said. "He was able to access new materials online, go to Facebook, he started studying Arabic language and all sorts of things."

She said she lost contact with her brother when he moved to Lamu, on the Kenyan coast near the border with Somalia, in 2015.

"He was a very quiet guy," a friend of Gichunge's told Rooters, asking not to be named. "You would never have expected him to turn out like that."

A police official and a private security professional who took part in rescue efforts at the complex said a man who went kaboom! outside a restaurant was also believed to be a non-Somali.

A passerby heard him repeating "where are you?" in flawless Swahili, presumably into a phone, the security professional told Rooters. The language is used throughout Kenya but not in Somalia where most people speak Somali.

Al-Shabaab has in the past recruited some East Africans, including four Kenyans and three Ugandans who were charged in connection with a bombing in Uganda in 2010.

Rashid Abdi, Horn of Africa Project Director at the International Crisis Group, a Brussels-based think tank, said the group has been actively recruiting in the region.

"Al-Shabaab remains an organization with its roots in Somalia but has evolved into a transnational, regional jihadi organization," he said.

Al-Shabaab has launched several large-scale attacks on Kenya in recent years, including a 2013 assault on a shopping mall in the same neighborhood as Tuesday's attack. Kenya angered the group in 2011 by sending in forces to create a buffer zone along the countries' shared border.

Al-Shabaab said it carried out Tuesaday's assault over U.S. President Donald Trump

's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Sixteen Kenyans, including a policeman, an American survivor of the Sept. 11, 2001, al Qaeda attacks on the United States, and a British development worker were among the dead at the 14 Riverside Drive complex.

Qatar Donates 68 Armoured Vehicles To Somali Military
[RADIOSHABELLE] Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
donated 68 armored vehicles to Somalia on Thursday, Qatar’s defense ministry said, a sign that Doha is pushing for influence in the country with the role of its Gulf rival, the United Arab Emirates, under strain.

Somalia, a Horn of Africa country located on key shipping routes, has refused to take sides in the rift between Qatar and its UAE ally, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
But relations with the UAE have become strained over the UAE’s investments in the breakaway region of Somaliland. In April, Somalia disbanded a UAE programme to train some of its troops.

Qatar’s defense ministry said the armored vehicles, delivered on Thursday in Mogadishu, would strengthen the Somali state, which is battling an Islamist insurgency.

''Canadian'' among 6 terror suspects in court over Riverside attack
[CAPITALFM.CO.KE] The Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) was Friday granted thirty days to detain five suspects, including a Canadian, who were arraigned in court over the Tuesday terror attack on 14 Riverside Drive that killed 21 people.

The prosecution had moved to court seeking to detain the suspects further in order to conclude investigations the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji had said were at an advanced stage.

Those presented in court include, Joel Ng’ang’a Wainaina, Oliver Kanyango Muthee, Gladys Kaari Justus, Guleid Abdihakim (Canadian) and Osman Ibrahim‐all believed to have facilitated five Al-Shabaab

holy warriors who launched the deadly attack described by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary as having targeted the world.

The sixth suspect was arraigned separately, and police were allowed to detain him until Wednesday.

The prosecution told the court that among the suspects were taxi drivers who ferried the attackers to various locations in the city including 14 Riverside Drive and a mobile-money transfer agent who sent them money.

Another suspect is said to have been seen, in surveillance footage reviewed by Sherlocks, talking to one of the attackers at the dusitD2 hotel complex where the al-Shabaab linked bully boyz laid a siege that started on Tuesday at 3pm and ended on Wednesday morning at about 9 pm when four of them were all killed. The first terror suspect went kaboom! outside Secret Garden hotel, killing six people‐according to police.

Police had earlier said they were holding 11 suspects, but it is understood that some of them are still being interrogated before a decision is made on whether they should face charges while others have been freed.
An Nahar adds:
Those who appeared in court include Joel Ng'ang'a Wainaina, a taxi driver who ferried the attackers around on several occasions, and Oliver Kanyango Muthee, a taxi driver who drove one of the assailants to the scene of the attack.

Gladys Kaari Justus is being investigated over the transfer of money while Guleid Abdihakim -- who holds Canadian citizenship -- is being probed over suspicious communication.

The other suspect Osman Ibrahim is alleged to have met with one of the attackers on January 8.

Two suspects yet to appear in court, Ali Salim Gichunge and Violet Kemunto Omwoyo possessed SIM cards that were in "constant communication" with numbers in Somalia, court documents revealed.

14 Riverside Drive attack ‘targeted at the world’ -- CS Juma

-linked Lions of Islam who launched an attack on 14 Riverside Drive on Tuesday targeted the world, Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Ministry has said.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma said the 14 Riverside Drive complex was targeted because it hosted a number of global establishments and international interests.

"While this attack on the Dusit Complex was on the Kenyan territory, it was targeted at the world. The complex hosts a range international establishments and interests," she said at a briefing to foreign envoys based in Nairobi.

Juma who was accompanied by Cabinet colleagues Fred Matiangi (Interior) and Najib Balala (Tourism), and National Police Service Inspector General Joseph Boinnet said more than ever, concerted efforts by the international community were critical to degrading terror groups.

"The attack is a clear reminder that the terrorists’ objective is to change the way of life of other societies is alive. It is a reminder that no country is immune to international terrorism," the CS told the diplomatic corps.

Somali-based krazed killer group al-Shabaab that grabbed credit for the attack had said in a statement aired on its radio arm, Andalus, it carried out the attack in response to a decision by United States President Donald Trump

Dissecting sectarianism in Egypt: Social, economic and legal challenges
BLUF: The Muslims in Minya governate in upper Egypt are in the habit of convening local councils for the purpose of unlawfully attacking their Coptic neighbours and destroying their unlicensed churches, as happened just this week.
[AlAhram] In the latest in a long string of attacks in Minya a crowd of murderous Moslems this week attacked a Coptic prayer house which they claimed was an unlicensed church in Zaafarana village and expelled the priest.

Pope Tawadros II, patriarch of the See of St Mark, said in a recent television interview that he was deeply saddened by the sectarian incidents that occur in the area and stressed that informal arbitration councils are incapable of resolving the problem. The solution, he said, is to enforce the law.

Though recurrent, sectarian violence is not common to all parts of Minya. In some areas Coptic and Moslem neighbours live in peace and harmony.

Some are of the opinion that Minya has more than its share of Lion of Islams. Others counter that eruptions of sectarian violence in the governorate are the work of a small minority who fire the credulous with falsehoods and misguided ideas.

Political analyst Nabil Abdel-Fattah attributes the frequency of sectarian strife in Minya to ignorance, unemployment and a range of economic problems.

"The lack of public services and infrastructure in most villages, from potable water and proper wastewater disposal systems to electricity and healthcare, combined with high unemployment rates among university graduates and graduates of other institutions of higher education, has created a social environment lacking hope.'

"This environment, with its dearth of development programmes and lack of horizons for young people, breeds Lion of Islam religious ideas and radicalism," Abdel-Fattah recently wrote.

"The fact that some local agencies and prominent families then resort to informal councils and apply their rulings to contain sectarian disputes is actually a cause of their reoccurrence."

In a statement released this week, the office of the Minya diocese said that the attacks which happened Friday actually began a few days earlier when, on 7 January, a group of murderous Moslems stormed a small place in which prayer services have been held for some time.

According to sources, the incident forced Reverend Macarius, the bishop of Minya, to postpone his annual trip to Canada which had been scheduled for the end of January.

Bishop Macarius has been quoted as saying that it is the government which should decide if there have been violations regarding the construction of a church, not individuals.

The bishop said that as citizens Copts are only demanding their rights.

Commenting on the closure of the prayer house in Zaafarana, MP Mahmoud Badr said: "A thousand ignoramuses and rabble rousers marched against a prayer to God. A thousand miscreants for whom faith is ignorance arm themselves with a thousand fatwas by sheikhs for whom ignorance is a religion. I believe that this is the first true test of the [newly founded] Supreme Council to Combat Sectarian Strife."

"The solution is in the rule of law. Local arbitration councils are not the solution. The solution is to be found in a strong state that protects its people’s right to freedom of worship," MP Badr added.

A study conducted by the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) showed that rumours are instrumental to igniting or aggravating sectarian festivities. In many cases incidents are triggered by rumour campaigns to stop the construction of a church or new religious edifice, EIPR said.

Other incidents are ignited by a trumped up "scandal" involving an amorous relationship between members of different faiths. The rumour mill serves as a device for sectarian mobilisation on a scale that extends beyond a particular location to include entire neighbourhoods and nearby villages that have no relationship to the parties directly involved in the dispute.

Other studies have found that multiple factors converge to make Minya the governorate most plagued by sectarian violence. There is the rugged topography, demographic composition and sharp class contrasts. In the midst of widespread poverty one finds "plantations" with luxurious villas and other ostentatious manifestations of wealth. In addition, some local churches rival the grandeur of cathedrals in their opulence and scale.

Yemen's Huthis finance war with fuel from Iran: UN report
[PULSE.NG] Fuel loaded from ports in Iran has generated revenue to finance the Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
Huthi rebel war effort against the Saudi-backed government, according to a report by a UN panel of experts seen by AFP.

Yemen's Houthis control the port of Hodeida, the main entry point for imports and other supplies to the country
The findings are expected to again raise questions about Iran's support for the Huthis in the war that has pushed Yemen to the brink of humanitarian catastrophe.

In its final report for 2018, the panel said it had "identified a small number of companies, both within Yemen and outside, which operated as front companies," using fake documents to conceal fuel donations.

The fuel was "for the benefit of a listed individual" who is on a UN sanctions blacklist, it added.

"The revenue from the sale of this fuel was used to finance the Huthi war effort," said the 85-page report sent to the Security Council.

The panel found that the "fuel was loaded from ports in the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran under false documentation" to avoid UN inspections of the cargo, it added.

The experts have in past reports pointed to a possible Iranian link to missiles fired by Houthis at Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, after they traveled to Riyadh to examine weapons debris.

In a previous report, the experts said they were investigating monthly fuel donations from Iran valued at $30 million.

Iran has repeatedly denied that it is providing military support to the Huthis, who seized the capital Sanaa in 2014, prompting the Saudi-led coalition to intervene a year later to push back the rebels.

SAUDI COALITION BOMBINGS
The Huthis control the city and key port of Hodeida, a main entry point for imports to Yemen that pro-government forces had planned to capture in a new offensive launched in June.

A ceasefire in Hodeida was agreed during UN-brokered talks last month in Sweden and UN monitors are on the ground to oversee a pullback of forces from the port.

"Throughout the reporting period of 2018, Yemen continued its slide toward humanitarian and economic catastrophe," said the panel, which described the country as "deeply fractured" with a broken economy.

Europe
Man sets himself on fire in central Prague
[PULSE.NG] A Czech man set himself on fire Friday in central Prague where the student activist Jan Palach self-immolated 50 years ago to protest the Soviet-led occupation of the then Czechoslovakia.

The man was put into an artificial coma and hospitalised with burns to his head and hands after setting himself alight at Wenceslas Square, officials said.

"The man born in 1964 set himself on fire around 3:00 pm using a flammable substance," Prague police said on Twitter, adding that passersby put out the flames with clothing and a fire extinguisher from a nearby coffee shop.

"Rescuers put the patient with burns covering 30 percent of his body in an artificial coma," Prague emergency services spokeswoman Jana Postova added on Twitter.

Police spokeswoman Andrea Zoulova told news hounds "there is no evidence the act had been a protest or politically motivated."

According to a witness quoted by local media, the man had two signs, one in Arabic and another using the Latin alphabet, as well as Christian crosses and a loudspeaker playing music.

"I thought he was a religious fanatic," one passerby who saw the man before the incident told the news site www.lidovky.cz.

"I saw him, he was muttering something, like a prayer," another passerby told public radio CRo1.

France to try 14 people over Jan 2015 Paris attacks
[IsraelTimes] Assault on Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
satirical magazine, a policewoman, and a Jewish supermarket killed 17 people.

French anti-terror judges have recommended that 14 people be tried in connection with the January 2015 jihadist attacks in and around Gay Paree, a judicial source told AFP Friday.

The attacks against the Gay Paree offices of the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine, a policewoman in the nearby suburb of Montrouge, and a Jewish supermarket killed 17 people and marked the start of a wave of jihadist attacks in La Belle France.

Eleven people are in jug suspected of assisting in the attacks, while another three are wanted by police.

Under French law, they can appeal the decision to send them to trial.

The trial, whose date will be determined at a later date, will come more than four years after brothers Cherif and Said Kouachi killed 12 people at the offices of Charlie Hebdo on January 7, 2015.

The next day a policewoman was bumped off just outside Gay Paree, while another gunman, Amedy Coulibaly, took hostages at a Jewish Hyper Cacher shop, four of whom were killed.

All three attackers were killed in two separate shootouts with police.

Those to be tried are accused of "complicity" in assisting the attackers, including providing them with weapons.

Judicial sources said investigations in connection with the attacks were continuing, notably in Yemen, which one of the Kouachi brothers visited in 2011.

Responsibility for the attack against Charlie Hebdo was claimed by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula

The Grand Turk
Turkey Says Syria Regime Forces Shouldn't Be Allowed in Manbij
The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Friday insisted Syrian regime forces should not be allowed in Manbij as US troops withdraw, as proposed by a US-backed Kurdish militia viewed as faceless myrmidons by Ankara.

The strategic northern city has been held by the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) militia since 2016 after they recaptured the territory from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadists.

Turkey has repeatedly threatened to attack the YPG and said it would set up a "security zone" in northern Syria following a suggestion by Trump.

Last month, the YPG called on the regime to "assert control" over areas the militia was to withdraw from, including Manbij, to stop a "Ottoman Turkish invasion" and fiercely rejected a "security zone".

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday that the Syrian regime must take control of the country's north.

Turkey, which supports Syrian rebels and has called for Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Despoiler of Deraa...
's ouster, has conducted two previous offensives in Syria against IS and the YPG in 2016 and 2018.

In March last year, Ottoman Turkish military forces supporting Syrian rebels recaptured the YPG's western enclave of Afrin in Syria.

Turkey-US relations have been rocky in recent years over Washington's support to the YPG as well as the US failure to extradite a Pennsylvania-based Moslem preacher accused of ordering a failed coup in 2016.

Aksoy said Ottoman Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu would go to Washington for a meeting of the US-led coalition against IS on February 6.

And one day before Cavusoglu's visit, a Ottoman Turkish delegation led by deputy foreign minister Sedat Onal will go to the US for discussions on Syria.

POTUS says he will make a ‘major' announcement on Saturday about the border and government shutdown
[CSNBC] President Donald Trump said he will make a "major" announcement on Saturday about the border and ongoing government shutdown.

The president did not provide any further details on what he would discuss on what is set to be the 28th day of the partial government shutdown. The White House press team offered no further guidance to reporters when asked about the president’s tweet late Friday.

The shutdown is the result of Congress’s inability to pass a short-term funding bill for the government that Trump would be willing to sign.

The president has insisted that such a bill contain more than $5 billion in funding to build a border wall. Democrats have refused to agree with that demand.

Trump cited the shutdown when he canceled his trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland next week. He also called off sending his delegation to the meeting, "out of consideration" of the 800,000 workers not receiving pay because of the shutdown. Press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement that Trump wanted his team to be available to "assist as needed."

Sindh CTD steps up monitoring of social media to prevent spread of ‘hatred, militancy’
[DAWN] As the federal government plans a new body to regulate the print, electronic and social media, the police authorities in Sindh have developed a technical team under its anti-terror wing that has started monitoring all digital platforms amid their growing use for "promotion of ideology of hatred, anti-state activism and militancy", a bigwig said on Thursday.

The fresh development from the Sindh police came after a series of steps announced by the federal government and institutions, including Pakistain Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), where "the infiltration of anti-state elements and promoters of different ideologies which cannot be dubbed as pro-nationalism" have sparked concerns, necessitating immediate and strong measures.

The move by the Sindh police, the official said, was the first of its kind by the law enforcement agency, which had realised the significance of the digital and social media platforms.

Iraq
Report: U.S. will not intervene if IDF attacks Shi'ite militias in Iraq
Interesting.
[Jpost] Iraq's Prime Minister expressed his fear about the possible move and told Secretary Mike Pompeo that if this were to happen, it will have dire and dangerous consequences for the region.

The United States reportedly said it would not intervene if Israel were to bomb Shi'ite militias in Iraq.

A source in the Iraqi government told the Arabic RT network, a Russian television network, on Thursday that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had informed Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi that Washington would not intervene if Israel bombed bases belonging to Shi'ite militias in Iraq.

Rooters reported last year that Iran had delivered ballistic missiles to Iraq, handing over some to Shi'ite militias and was trying to develop a missile manufacturing infrastructure in the country.
Following the remarks, RT quoted the source as saying that Abdul-Mahdi expressed his fear about the possible move and told Pompeo that if this were to happen, it will have dire and dangerous consequences for the region.

Rooters reported last year that Iran had delivered ballistic missiles to Iraq, handing over some to Shi'ite militias and was trying to develop a missile manufacturing infrastructure in the country.

It's believed Israel knows about the transference of the missiles from Iran to Iraq and has been monitoring the situation closely over the last few weeks, the source said.

Iran's Foreign Ministry denied the report, saying that "this claim is false, incorrect and ridiculous."

Pompeo responded to the issue on his Twitter account saying that he is "very concerned about the report that Iran has delivered ballistic missiles to Iraqi soil.

"If this is true, it is a blatant violation of Iraqi illusory illusory sovereignty and of the UN Security Council resolution, and Baghdad must decide what is happening in its territory - not Tehran," he said.

#2  Tater (Muqtadar al Sadra) has matured since the days when US apaches under Bush decimated his Madri militia by recently being more diplomatic towards Sunnis and by providing fighters to government forces against ISIS. Taters resurrection in Iraq will require Israeli attention.

#6  Iran's Foreign Ministry denied the report, saying that "this claim is false, incorrect and ridiculous."

OK, so no complaints when the IDF blows them to smithereens. Glad that that is settled.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkey-backed militants cite religion to flatten tombs in Afrin
Sultan Erdogan Recep Tayyip I “the much beloved” will allow no evidence of Kurdish history to exist, even in another country.

...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
-backed Islamist factions in control of Afrin are systematically destroying cemeteries in the Kurdish enclave.

A resident of Afrin who wished to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation said that on Wednesday bully boyz of the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) removed tombstones from the graves in Edama village in the district.

The tombs were also leveled. The bully boyz told the residents that their reason was religious and the tombs were too high above ground and needed to be flattened.

Last week, Turkey’s proxies also went to Meydanke village in the Shera district of Afrin under the same religious pretext, doing the same thing to that cemetery.

In December, more than 500 tombs in Sinare village in the Shera district were destroyed by the bad boys. Their reasoning reportedly was to enlarging the roads.

In Islam, there are rules for tombs, but certain Salafist fatwas decree for tombs to be flat with the land and that it is irreligious to have them adorned or be above ground.

The groups operating in Afrin took over the city with Ottoman Turkish help on March 18, 2018, after 58 days of fighting. Turkey claimed that the city was run by gunnies and that it posed a danger to Ankara’s national security.

Afrin, a Kurdish majority district known for its olive trees, was stable and safe prior to the invasion, hosting numerous refugees from the rest of Syria. It was a canton of the Northern Syrian Federation, administered by TEV-DEM.

Yezidis, Assyrians, Syriacs, some Arabs and Turkmen participated in the defense of Afrin under the banner of the Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG).

Since the takeover, half of the population has been living in camps. Their houses have been occupied and olive groves and factories taken over.

Kurdish symbols ‐ like the statue of Kaveh the Blacksmith ‐ have been destroyed, and streets and other places have been changed to Ottoman Turkish or Arabic names. Kurdish has also been removed as an official language, replaced with Arabic and Ottoman Turkish.

The groups have committed human rights

violations and engaged in looting. They have regularly destroyed cemeteries, each time citing different reasons. Claiming violation of religion is the latest trend.

#1  At this point does anyone want to offer a counter argument that Erdogan would do a Kurdish genocide, right down to the erasing of a culture, and ending with death camps and gas chambers, if he could get away with it?

Like Hitler, someone needs to relieve Erdogan of his position, power, or life, if it comes to that.
