[HotAir, HT Grom] A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi suffered a “hard landing” on Sunday, Iranian state media reported, without immediately elaborating.
Raisi was traveling in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province. State TV said the incident happened near Jolfa, a city on the border with with the nation of Azerbaijan, some 600 kilometers (375 miles) northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran.
Traveling with Raisi were Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the governor of Iran’s East Azerbaijan province and other officials, the state-run IRNA news agency reported. One local government official used the word “crash” to describe the incident, but he acknowledged to an Iranian newspaper that he had yet to reach the site himself.

There's lots of CYA and fancy lingo coming out of Tehran right now as you can imagine. Shoud be interesting watching this shake out and what - or WHO - gets blamed.
Raisi would be no loss to humanity, that's for sure.
As a young man, Ebrahim Raisi sentenced thousands of innocent Iranians to execution.
He was known as the hang man and butcher of Tehran. Now he's the hangman of the whole nation.
If Raisi is confirmed dead, millions will celebrate across Iran. pic.twitter.com/7v5NZg9AYG

Time and unraveling the various stories will tell.
UPDATE Welp, looks like the Iranian news services are setting the stage for news. They'd already deleted a tweet where Raisi was taking a cab home (seriously - they did).
As has President Rais...oops https://t.co/S1h71ewdNe

So I guess things are a bit grimmer on the ground and they can't cover for what they're going to pull out of the site.

It's now nighttime, and the rescue teams have yet to reach the crash site. The Iranian Red Crescent has reported that some of their own rescue teams are lost.
Locals suggest that the area becomes a hunting ground for wolves and bears at night, raising concerns that if the crew is injured, nature may take its course.
I'm not concerned. You concerned?
HELLO: Looks like they've stumbled across something in the dark. Nothing more than that at the moment.

It's a helicopter. The fact that it flies at all is unnatural.

Iran's Tasnim news agency said that after communications with the chopper carrying the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, one of the passengers on board was able to make contact "and therefore it seems there were no casualties."
Malek Rahmati (Persian: مالک رحمتی) is an Iranian politician who has served as governor-general of East Azerbaijan province since 2024.[1] He previously headed the Privatization Organization of Iran from 2023 to 2024.[2]
On May 19, 2024, a helicopter carrying Rahmati — alongside president Ebrahim Raisi, foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and representative of the Supreme Leader in East Azerbaijan Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem — crashed in Varazqan in East Azerbaijan province. His condition is unknown.[3]
Raisi, 63, is a hard-liner who formerly led the country’s judiciary. He is viewed as a protégé of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and some analysts have suggested he could replace the 85-year-old leader after his death or resignation from the role.

Raisi won Iran’s 2021 presidential election, a vote that saw the lowest turnout in the Islamic Republic’s history. Raisi is sanctioned by the US in part over his involvement in the mass execution of thousands of political prisoners in 1988 at the end of the bloody Iran-Iraq war.
Under Raisi, Iran now enriches uranium at nearly weapons-grade levels and hampers international inspections. Iran has armed Russia in its war on Ukraine, as well as launched a massive drone and missile attack on Israel last month, and continued arming proxy groups in the Mideast, like Yemen’s Houthi rebels and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
[IsraelTimes] Opposition site says Arvin Nathaniel Ghahremani was defending himself against knife attack when he killed Amir Shokri in brawl; victim’s family can spare him, but refused to do so
It is forbidden for an unbeliever to raise a hand against a member of the Master Religion, even in self-defense. Naturally, the government of Iran must act in such cases of rebellion against Allah and the natural order of things.
A Jewish Iranian man is set to be executed on Monday for killing a man in a brawl two years ago, an Iranian human rights ...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty... group said.
The opposition linked Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... International news website said that Arvin Nathaniel Ghahremani was allegedly defending himself after being attacked with a knife, and that the sentence came under the penal code for "retributive justice."
According to the Oslo-based group Iran Human Rights (IHR) Ghahremani, 20, from the southwestern city of Kermanshah was set to be executed on Saturday, but his family was informed the execution will now take place on Monday.
Ghahremani was convicted of the "intentional murder" of Amir Shokri for his role in the fight two years ago.
The reports said that his only hope of being spared under Iran’s Islamic code is if the family of the dead man agree to forgive him, something they have so far refused to do.
IHR carried a voice recording from Ghahremani’s mother pleading for people to pray for her son to be saved.
Video circulated on social media apparently showed prayers being held for Ghahremani this week at the Rachel’s Tomb pilgrimage site in the central West Bank city of Bethlehem.
Prior to the Islamic Revolution in 1979, there were some 100,000 Jews in Iran; by 2016, according to an Iranian census, that number had fallen to below 10,000.
Iran is openly sworn to Israel’s destruction and financially supports terrorist groups like Hezbollah and Hamas ..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",... that are also committed to this aim. Prominent figures in the Jewish community of Iran intermittently issue anti-Israel statements that match the regime’s agenda.
Amnesty International said last month that Iran executed 853 people in 2023, the highest total since 2015.

Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers... ’s Ayta ash-Shab, Odaisseh, Aitaroun, and Ramyeh earlier today, the military says.
The IDF also says that one explosive-laden drone launched from Lebanon earlier struck an area near the border community of Yiftah, causing no injuries.
Other incidents of sirens warning of incoming drones have ended without damage or injuries, the IDF adds.
Several rockets were also fired from Lebanon at northern Israel today, causing no injuries, according to the military.
Hezbollah has claimed 10 rocket, missile and drone attacks on the border today.
[IsraelTimes] Two senior American officials held indirect meeting with Iranian officials in Oman this week in an effort to avoid a regional escalation, according to the Axios news site.
The talks focused on "clarifying the consequences of actions by Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... and its proxies in the region and to discuss US concerns regarding the status of Iran’s nuclear program," according to two sources quoted in the report.
A government official confirms to the Times of Israel that White House Middle East czar Brett McGurk and special envoy on Iran Abram Paley were in Oman this week for the talks.
McGurk was also in Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula, largely made up of sand and oil rigs. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual haj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Formerly dictatorial and steeped in Olde Tyme Religion, deferring to Salafist holy men on all issues, it has now done a 180 and is making a serious effort to modernize, so as not to be left in the sand by its Gulf Arab neighbors. The holy men have been shoved to the background and the nation is now still dictatorial but somewhat Frational. That doesn't make them trustworthy, but it's a start... this week, according to the same official.
Axios says it was unclear who represented Iran at the Oman talks and there was no official statement from either country.
The talks come after Iranian threats in recent weeks that Tehran will change its doctrine on nuclear weapons — currently banned under a fatwa by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei ...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...> — if its existence is threatened by Israel.
Similar talks were held between the United States and Iran in Oman January, when reportedly Tehran asked the Biden administration to secure a ceasefire in ongoing Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... war while Washington pressed the Islamic Theocratic Republic to curb attacks by its proxies.

Really? They have two oil terminals they use to export oil. One in the gulf and one outside. Blow them both up and only western companies know how to replace them. If they start rebuilding them, blow them up again even if western nationals are there. Send a good signal. Iran will be broke in a couple months and unable to import gasoline, food or anything else as they can't pay for it.
