University of GA: 'Some white people may have to die for black communities to be made whole'
[Campus Reform] A University of Georgia (UGA) teaching assistant wrote Wednesday on Facebook that "some white people may have to die for black communities to be made whole in this struggle to advance to freedom." He added that to suggest otherwise is "ahistorical and dangerously naive."

UGA philosophy TA Irami Osei-Frimpong made the comment during a conversation on the Overheard at UGA Facebook page. The comment has since been deleted. Osei-Frimpong claimed in May 2017 that Facebook suspended him for quoting from an article which detailed how Texas A&M professor Tommy Curry had said "in order to be equal, in order to be liberated, some white people may have to die."

"Fighting white people is a skill" Tweet This
"Killing some white people isn’t genocide; it’s killing some white people," the UGA TA explained in a Medium post. "We had to kill some white people to get out of slavery. Maybe if we’d killed more during the 20th century we still wouldn’t talk about racialized voter disenfranchisement and housing, education, and employment discrimination. This should not be controversial."

#1  Irami Osei-Frimpong might have a few skeletons in his closet.

This guy is a philosophy student. He might couple that with a little history. Check out the Civil War jerk, many, many white people died for the emancipation cause. So FYVM.

#2  Actually, the kid has it right. It's just that the "white people" are the leaders of the Dims (not that I am advocating their killing), so the people of color can be released from the lib-prog welfare plantation.

#10  Idiots. That's what is wrong with academia - people like this should be shown the door and tossed on their pointy little heads for being incredibly stupid.

First off, I have ancestors that fought on the UNION side to liberate your ancestors, so I've paid the debt through thier blood.

Second, what possible cause is there for violence now about wrongs from 100 years and more ago?

Third, my wife's people came over to escape communists and death camps, so they owe you precisely jack shit.

Fourth: Try to shed the blood of me and mine in the name of your stupidity, you will end up bleeding and/or dead. I am trained, and I am armed.

I can bet this: all these leftists advocating civil war or armed violence have never seen the real thing. All I can say to them is "You obviously have never seen real war, you don't know what you're asking for" And

"Please be at the front of the assault so I can be sure to shoot you first".

Coast Guard Members May End Up Getting Paid Despite The Government Shutdown
[Task&Purpose] Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan said Wednesday he's won White House and bipartisan support for a bill to pay the nation's Coast Guard personnel during the shutdown.

He called the service members the hardest-hit of federal employees affected by the unprecedented lapse in government funding.

"I just got out of a fairly lengthy meeting with the president in the Oval Office," Sullivan said. "We talked about this, and he said he's supportive of the bill."

"We're making progress," he said.

Sullivan pushed for the bill's passage in a speech on the Senate floor Tuesday, the same day Coast Guard personnel nationwide missed their first paycheck during the closure.

"As you know, the partial government shutdown is negatively impacting federal workers, but none, none more so than the brave men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard," said Sullivan, chair of the Senate Commerce subcommittee on Security, with jurisdiction over the Coast Guard.

He said the bill would cover more than 41,000 active-duty Coast Guard personnel and retirees. About 1,908 active-duty Coast Guardsmen work in Alaska. The Coast Guard falls under the Department of Homeland Security, one of nine departments whose funding lapsed, but Coast Guard personnel are deemed essential and are working without pay.

Europe
Same old elite? Macron's 'revolution' fails with fed up French
[France 24] Jean-Baptiste Moreau, a farmer who splits his time between parliament and his cow sheds, thought he would be part of the solution to France's political problems when he was elected.

The 41-year-old won a seat in parliament in June 2017 in what some commentators termed a "velvet revolution" led by President Emmanuel Macron, which saw grumpy voters turf out a whole generation of MPs from the country's main political parties.

Macron's victorious centrist movement filled half its parliamentary seats with people who had never held political office before, including Moreau, who posted a picture on Twitter of himself delivering a calf on Christmas Day.

But less than two years after the biggest turnover in political personnel in 60 years, France has faced another anti-elite revolt led by "yellow vest" protesters commanding widespread public support.

"Given the weight of the legislative agenda, we've been very busy in the parliament and in Paris and not on the ground enough explaining how we want to do politics differently," Moreau said in an interview.

"And perhaps we've not been different enough from our predecessors," the MP from the central Creuse region told AFP in what he called a "mea culpa".

The failure of Macron's bid to restore faith in politicians in France could have repercussions in a country where anti-establishment far-right and far-left parties have never been so popular.

Research published last week by the Cevipof political institute at Sciences Po university found more than two thirds of the French people still had overwhelmingly negative views of politicians.

When asked to sum up their feelings towards them, 37 percent said they felt "distrust", 32 percent "disgust", eight percent "boredom" and four percent "fear".

Only France's roughly 35,000 mayors, seen as close to the people they represent, inspired confidence in a majority of people.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Bogus Stats of Violence-Against-Women Industry
[WND] Speaking recently to Fox News’ Arthel Neville, Andrew Napolitano, also of Fox News, repeated old feminist canards about sexual assault against women being an under-reported, ever-present crime in American society.

The violence-against-women industry in North America ‐ you know, the one-in-four-women-are-assaulted rot ‐ is propped up by the sub-science or pseudoscience of violence-against-women statistics.

In particular, violence-against-women surveys are based on inflated numbers nobody questions, numbers the advocates bandy about and the politicians rely on when drafting policy and plumping for resources.

I’m thinking of the original 1993 StatsCan Violence Against Women survey, and its preposterous statistical offshoots, which, in turn, were spinoffs of the American violence-against-women statistical sisterhood. Canada follows America’s lead.

Anyone who’s studied research methodology at a good school (check) knows that research is shaped by the researcher’s hypothesis. Duly, the corpus of violence-against-women statistics reflects an exclusive ideological focus on female victimization. It thus consists of single-sex surveys ‐ never two-sex surveys ‐ with no input from men, to the exclusion of violence females incur from other females, or acts of violence women commit against the man in the relationship.

Developed at the height of the "war against women" moral panic, these foundational questionnaires are the product of a collaboration with advocacy groups and feminist stakeholders, and are thus fraught with problems of unrepresentative samples, lack of corroboration, a reliance on anecdotes, a use of over-inclusive survey questions and, to charitably understate the problem, the broadest definition of assault.

There’s a lot that goes into skewing data.

Spygate: The True Story of Collusion [Infographic]
[EPOCH Times] How America’s most powerful agencies were weaponized against President Donald Trump.

Although the details remain complex, the structure underlying Spygate‐the creation of the false narrative that candidate Donald Trump colluded with Russia, and the spying on his presidential campaign‐remains surprisingly simple:

1. CIA Director John Brennan, with some assistance from Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, gathered foreign intelligence and fed it throughout our domestic Intelligence Community.

2. The FBI became the handler of Brennan’s intelligence and engaged in the more practical elements of surveillance.

3. The Department of Justice facilitated investigations by the FBI and legal maneuverings, while providing a crucial shield of nondisclosure.

4. The Department of State became a mechanism of information dissemination and leaks.

5. Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee provided funding, support, and media collusion.

6. Obama administration officials were complicit, and engaged in unmasking and intelligence gathering and dissemination.

7. The media was the most corrosive element in many respects. None of these events could have transpired without their willing participation. Stories were pushed, facts were ignored, and narratives were promoted.

Let’s start with a simple premise: The candidacy of Trump presented both an opportunity and a threat.

Initially not viewed with any real seriousness, Trump’s campaign was seen as an opportunistic wedge in the election process. At the same time, and particularly as the viability of his candidacy increased, Trump was seen as an existential threat to the established political system.

The sudden legitimacy of Trump’s candidacy was not welcomed by the U.S. political establishment. Here was a true political outsider who held no traditional allegiances. He was brash and boastful, he ignored political correctness, he couldn’t be bought, and he didn’t care what others thought of him‐he trusted himself.

Governing bodies in Britain and the European Union were also worried. Candidate Trump was openly challenging monetary policy, regulations, and the power of special interests. He challenged Congress. He challenged the United Nations and the European Union. He questioned everything.

UPDATE 6-Mexican pipeline blast during fuel raid kills at least 21 fuel thieves
MEXICO CITY, Jan 18 (Reuters) - At least 21 people were killed and 71 were injured on Friday when a pipeline ruptured by suspected fuel thieves exploded in central Mexico as dozens of people tried to fill up containers, state and federal authorities said.

Mexican television footage showed flames leaping into the night sky in the municipality of Tlahuelilpan, in Hidalgo state north of Mexico City, as people screamed and cried for help.

Hidalgo’s governor Omar Fayad told Mexican television that emergency services had registered the charred bodies of 21 people, and that at least 71 others had been injured. However, the blaze had yet to be extinguished, he said.

"There’s still a very hot area where we think the number of injured or dead we haven’t had access to could rise," he said.
Update from Ynet at 9:30 a.m. ET:
The corpse count from the kaboom of a pipeline ruptured by suspected fuel thieves in central Mexico has risen to 66, the governor of the state of Hidalgo said on Saturday.

At a news conference with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Hidalgo Governor Omar Fayad said 76 people had also been injured in Friday evening's kaboom, which happened as people tried to fill containers with fu

Lopez Obrador pledged to step up his government's drive to stamp out fuel theft, which has cost the country billions of dollars in the last few years.

Economy
The stock market hasn't started a year this strongly since 1987 ‐ uh-oh!
[Market Watch] Much has been made about the performance of stocks so far in 2019.

Small-cap stocks, as gauged by the Russell 2000 index RUT, +1.04% , are off to their best start to any year in the past 32 years, boasting a gain of 8.8% over the past 12 trading sessions, according to Dow Jones Market Data. That’s outpacing the large-cap S&P 500 SPX, +1.32% the U.S. stock-market benchmark, which is up 5.2% over the same stretch ‐ a performance, however, that likewise is the strongest 12-day start to a calendar year in 32 years.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +1.38% is up 4.5% over the same period, while the Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, +1.03% has logged a 6.8% advance.

Is it a reason to cheer? Perhaps it would be if not for the fact that the gains are the strongest since 1987, when the Russell popped 11.87% over the first 12 trading days and the S&P rallied 11.22%. 1987 is a year that lives in infamy on Wall Street.

Put an overlay "exp moving average" use a parameter of 126. This chart tells you when new net 52 week lows start to dominate the NYSE..which is usually a good time to get out.. It gave a sell signal in the autumn of 2007, and one last October 9. When the line goes positive it is time to get back in. If you use this (and some common sense) with Vanguard SP 500 fund and buy a 10 year Treasury fund when out of the market you could have added close to 2% per year since 1982 over a buy and hold strategy.

If you are smart enough to invest directly in a going concern, God bless you. Otherwise you have to buy equities and business backed debt.

#12  Time to stop making excuses. The next step is to compare against each other, via stockcharts, the major sectors in the world financial markets. They include, consumer discretionary, consumer staples, technology, 10 year bonds, gold, emerging markets, etc. etc. Once you rank these asset classes against each other you can find which one is outperforming all the others. Example... between 2000- Jan 2013 Gold's total return outperformed the Sp500 600% to 13% or close to 45 to 1. Between 2000-2007 the Fidelity Real Estate fund, FRESX averaged 22% per year, outperformed the SP500 by 450%. The only way to have known to get into Real Estate in 2000 was by comparing asset classes weekly. Once you have your charts set up, it takes 15 minutes to review them every week. Once you start to understand what the information in the charts is telling you, and you maximize it in a way you are comfortable, the returns are very nice.

#14  Very good stuff at #12 and throughout this string. Rule of thumb for me, if it's not been paying an increasing dividend (even if only a penny) per year, for more than 10-15 even 20 years, leave it alone.

I'm not into price growth alone. No dividend, no buy, no exception. Precipitous drop in dividends go on my 'sell' list. Yes, I have been guilty to being wedded to some of them, but I also have other weaknesses.

#17  #14, you can easily make it work. In 2012 Health care became the leading sector in the world. AMGN, PFE,MRK, and UNH all met your requirements and averaged a 105% return to the sell point in the summer of 2015. Tech was the leading sector in the world from Spring 2016 to the sell in October 2018. MSFT, CSCO, AGVO, met your req and averaged an 80% return. In Total, All Blue Chips, averaging 22% per year, including dividends from 2/2012 to 10/2018.

#18  Buy / sell signals based on markets crossing moving averages have been a staple on Wall St. for a very long time now. IIRC the classic text written in the 1950s noted that selling the broad market when it fell below its 200-day moving average *and* when the moving average had negative scope and buying on the opposite signal had returned a percentage in the very high teens over a half century. Modern money managers will tell you those signals still work today. Rolling that strategy to short term T-bills on each sale would probably raise the total return to north of 20% (as would including dividends which the old analyses don't consider).

Cancelled MILAIR Flight: POTUS Returns CODEL Luggage to Pelosi's Office
[Free Beacon] Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's luggage has been returned to the halls of congress by cart, according to a picture sent to the Washington Free Beacon by a snap-happy tipster.

The picture shows the luggage were returned to Pelosi on "military liaison" marked carts.

Pelosi's bags were packed for a congressional trip to Belgium and Afghanistan, but the trip was canceled just before the delegation was set to leave by President Donald Trump, who let her know in a letter that she would have to fly commercial if she still wanted to make the trip.

Man jumps from 11th story cruise ship balcony, gets lifetime ban from Royal Caribbean
[SunSentinel] Royal Caribbean has banned a group of men from ever traveling with the cruise line again after one of them jumped off a ship’s deck and posted a video of the stunt on social media.

Nick Naydev, of Vancouver, Washington, posted the video on Instagram Friday showing him standing on the balcony of the Symphony of the Seas and then jumping off into the waters in the Bahamas where the ship was docked. The video has more than 80,000 views and more than 1,000 comments. One of his friends Konstantin Kryachun recorded the video and posted the full video which shows Naydev splashing into the water and wading.

"He’s jumped from those kind of heights before, and we didn’t really care about the consequences with the cruise company," Kryachun told Yahoo Lifestyle. "We just wanted to get a video of it and make it go viral."

In the comments section, Naydev estimated that he jumped from the 11th story deck or about "110-120 feet" high.

"If they send any legislation to my desk that weakens the protection of human life, I will issue a veto and we have the support to uphold those vetoes," Trump said in the message displayed to a crowd gathered for the annual anti-abortion march in Washington.

"Every child is a sacred gift from God," Trump said in the message.

Vice President Pence spoke in person at the march, calling Trump a "champion" for abortion opponents.

"President Donald Trump is the most pro-life president in American history," Pence told the crowd.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
400 Migrants Overwhelmed US Border in Yuna Sector During Week-Long Period
[Daily Caller] Nearly 400 migrants traveled underground Monday through a series of tunnels built by smugglers before turning themselves in to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in what appears to be the largest single group of migrants ever attempting to seek asylum.

Smugglers dug a series of seven holes just a few feet beneath the steel border near San Luis, Arizona, ABC News reported. Hundreds of asylum seekers went under with a few attempting to climb over the 12 foot wall.

Of the 179 minors in the group, Newsweek reported, 30 of them were unaccompanied.

Another 247 migrants crossed the border Wednesday by the Antelope Wells Port of Entry and entered New Mexico; Both groups voluntarily turned themselves in. (RELATED: Government Shutdown May Soon Cost More Than Trump’s Border Wall)

"In my 30 years with the Border Patrol, I have not been part of arresting a group of 376 people," CBP Yuma Border Sector Chief Anthony Porvaznik told ABC News. "That’s really unheard of."

Porvaznik said that while his team needs stronger barriers, its foremost concern right now is having enough funding to take care of the families that crossed over.

A plague of Sandalista leftists descend onto Tijuana's caravan migrants
[American Thinker] To hear the left tell it, the coming caravans of migrants are nothing but a spontaneous move by Central Americans fleeing gangs and crime, as if crime had never existed in their countries before, welfare in the U.S. isn't a part of the equation, and the entire situation justifies illegal entry. All the focus is on migrants, with individual sob stories in the press dominating coverage.

The spotlight actually belongs elsewhere. According to a new report from local public broadcaster KPBS, migrants say they're being egged on by sandal- and serape-clad rabid leftists from the States, veterans of the mobbery seen in places such as Seattle, with names like "By Any Means Necessary" (BAMN), who are now using the migrants on a political mission to break down U.S. borders.

Does anyone know this? Do people know that the caravan camp over in Tijuana full of migrants awaiting entry to the States is being descended upon daily by rabid Sandalista leftists, encouraging the migrants to break the border and enter illegally? They're not only egging them on in what other NGOs call "exploitation," but giving them junk information about asylum to encourage the illegal entry and saying it will all be a piece of cake. The migrants don't even want these pests, but these leftists are all over them like lice. Look at these details:

Obama Bundler Terry Bean Indicted on Charges of Sex Abuse of a Minor
[PJ] Terry Bean, the prominent gay rights activist and Obama fundraiser, has been indicted on charges that he sexually abused a boy under the age of 16. The charges stem from an incident in 2013 that prosecutors previously investigated. The case was originally dismissed in 2014 because the victim refused to cooperate. Bean pleaded not guilty in an arraignment hearing on Thursday.

Bean's indictment comes on the heels of news of an accusation against another prominent gay rights activist and Democratic fundraiser, Ed Buck. As I wrote last week for PJ Media, Buck and Bean represent a long line of prominent Democrats that have been implicated in sex crimes ‐ often perpetrated against minors.

Here's last week's summary of Bean's misdeeds:

Poll: Near Majority of Republicans View Romney Unfavorably
[Breitbart] A near majority of Republicans do not have a favorable view of freshman Senator Willard "Mitt" Romney (R-UT), according to a PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll released on Thursday.

The poll, conducted January 10-13, found 48% of "Republicans and conservative-leaning" have an "unfavorable" view Romney. Just 29% view Romney favorably while another 23% are "unsure" or "never heard" of him.

Never Trumpers like Bill Kristol have said Romney is now the "leader of the Republican Resistance to" President Donald Trump, and the PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll again shows how unpopular of a label that is among Republicans.

Entire Sharifpura village found stealing power
[DAWN] A Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) team disconnected power supply on Thursday to village Sharifpura (GT Road) after it found almost all residents stealing electricity directly from low tension (LT) lines.

"There were only eight houses where the residents were using electricity through legal connections. However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
the rest, whose connections were already cut by the Lesco’s GT Road sub-divisional office due to non-payment, were found stealing electricity directly from the LT lines," said a front man for the company.

The front man said the team, after finding most of the residents involved in power theft, removed two transformers installed in the village, disconnected power supply to the entire village. It also submitted applications to the respective cop shoppe for registration of FIRs against the power thieves.

Tokyo start-up launches satellite into space to deliver 'shooting stars on demand'
[DAWN] A rocket carrying a satellite on a mission to deliver the world's first artificial meteor shower blasted into space on Friday, Japanese scientists said.

A start-up based in Tokyo developed the micro-satellite for the celestial show over Hiroshima early next year as the initial experiment for what it calls a "shooting stars on demand" service.

The satellite is to release tiny balls that glow brightly as they hurtle through the atmosphere, simulating a meteor shower.

It hitched a ride on the small-size Epsilon-4 rocket that was launched from the Uchinoura space centre by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) on Friday morning.

The rocket carried a total of seven ultra-small satellites that will demonstrate various "innovative" technologies, JAXA front man Nobuyoshi Fujimoto told AFP.

By early afternoon, JAXA confirmed all seven satellites had successfully been launched into orbit.

"I was too moved for words," Lena Okajima, president of the company behind the artificial meteor showers, told the Jiji Press agency. "I feel like now the hard work is ahead."

The company ALE Co. Ltd plans to deliver its first out-of-this-world show over Hiroshima in the spring of 2020.

The satellite launched on Friday carries 400 tiny balls whose chemical formula is a closely-guarded secret. That should be enough for 20-30 events, as one shower will involve up to 20 stars, according to the company.

ALE's satellite, released 500 kilometres above the Earth, will gradually descend to 400km over the coming year as it orbits the Earth.

Qatar Donates 68 Armoured Vehicles To Somali Military
[RADIOSHABELLE] Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
donated 68 armored vehicles to Somalia on Thursday, Qatar’s defense ministry said, a sign that Doha is pushing for influence in the country with the role of its Gulf rival, the United Arab Emirates, under strain.

Somalia, a Horn of Africa country located on key shipping routes, has refused to take sides in the rift between Qatar and its UAE ally, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
But relations with the UAE have become strained over the UAE’s investments in the breakaway region of Somaliland. In April, Somalia disbanded a UAE programme to train some of its troops.

Qatar’s defense ministry said the armored vehicles, delivered on Thursday in Mogadishu, would strengthen the Somali state, which is battling an Islamist insurgency.

Thomas Sowell: Fact-Free Politics and Mythical Catchwords
[WND] In this era when there has been more information available to more people than at any time in the past, it is also true that there has been more misinformation from more different sources than ever. We are not talking about differences of opinion or inadequate verification, but about statements and catchwords in utter defiance of facts.

Among the most popular current catchwords are "climate change deniers." Stop and think. Have you ever ‐ even once in your entire life ‐ seen, heard or read even one human being who denied that climates change?

It is hard even to imagine how any minimally knowledgeable person could deny that climates change, when there are fossils of marine creatures in the Sahara Desert. Obviously there has been quite a climate change there.

The next time someone talks about "climate change deniers," ask them to name one ‐ and tell you just where specifically you can find that person’s words, declaring that climates do not change. You can bet the rent money that they cannot tell you.

Why all this talk about these mythical creatures called "climate change deniers"? Because there are some meteorologists and other scientists who refuse to join the stampede toward drastic economic changes to prevent what others say will be catastrophic levels of "global warming."

There are scientists on both sides of that issue. Presumably the issue could be debated on the basis of evidence and analysis. But this has become a political crusade, and political issues tend to be settled by political means, of which demonizing the opposition with catchwords is one.

Iraq
Report: U.S. will not intervene if IDF attacks Shi'ite militias in Iraq
Interesting.
[Jpost] Iraq's Prime Minister expressed his fear about the possible move and told Secretary Mike Pompeo that if this were to happen, it will have dire and dangerous consequences for the region.

The United States reportedly said it would not intervene if Israel were to bomb Shi'ite militias in Iraq.

A source in the Iraqi government told the Arabic RT network, a Russian television network, on Thursday that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had informed Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi that Washington would not intervene if Israel bombed bases belonging to Shi'ite militias in Iraq.

Rooters reported last year that Iran had delivered ballistic missiles to Iraq, handing over some to Shi'ite militias and was trying to develop a missile manufacturing infrastructure in the country.
Following the remarks, RT quoted the source as saying that Abdul-Mahdi expressed his fear about the possible move and told Pompeo that if this were to happen, it will have dire and dangerous consequences for the region.

Rooters reported last year that Iran had delivered ballistic missiles to Iraq, handing over some to Shi'ite militias and was trying to develop a missile manufacturing infrastructure in the country.

It's believed Israel knows about the transference of the missiles from Iran to Iraq and has been monitoring the situation closely over the last few weeks, the source said.

Iran's Foreign Ministry denied the report, saying that "this claim is false, incorrect and ridiculous."

Pompeo responded to the issue on his Twitter account saying that he is "very concerned about the report that Iran has delivered ballistic missiles to Iraqi soil.

"If this is true, it is a blatant violation of Iraqi illusory illusory sovereignty and of the UN Security Council resolution, and Baghdad must decide what is happening in its territory - not Tehran," he said.

Trump Threatens To Cancel Pelosi's Netflix Subscription
Satire Warning
[Babylon Bee] WASHINGTON, D.C.‐As the government shutdown battle rages on, President Donald Trump is upping the ante by threatening to cancel Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's Netflix subscription.

Trump cited the "Constitution thing" as justification for the power play as he made a move to cut off her access from 24/7 streaming entertainment. "You mess with the bull, well, guess what? You get the horns," Trump said. "No more The Office, no more Parks & Rec for MS-13 Lover Nancy Pelosi. You'll see how quick she comes around on my wall."

Pelosi quickly held a press conference in which she stated the Netflix subscription was "absolutely necessary" for her government work.

"How can I be expected to do my job if I can't binge-watch The Andy Griffith Show?" Pelosi said. "This is a matter of national security."

The President has already cut off her Hulu subscription, but she could never figure out the interface anyway, according to sources.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Two deer in one shot: She's a 101-year-old Mississippi hunter and she's still going strong
[Clarion Ledger] After missing four this season, Vickers was determined to bag a deer.

And when one came in view from her position in her blind, she decided to watch and wait.

"I decided to wait for a bigger one," Vickers said. "Before long, a bigger doe came out and I shot.

"Then I saw two deer on the ground. It shot plum through both of them. They both dropped right there. They didn't take another step. I knew it was back there, but I didn't realize it was that close to her where it could get shot."

The hunt was monumental for Vickers. It was her first successful deer hunt as a 101-year-old. And although completely by accident, it was the first time she'd bagged two deer in one shot.

Germany's Most reliable Partners (German Poll). 70% distrust Russia, 78% distrust America

Can we all admit NATO was a project that's past its time? Why are the Americans still in NATO? Germany doesn't trust them, and other polls say they're Germany's greatest threat. It's long past time for Europe to put on its big boy pants and go its own way. The American deep state is going to start war after war in their quest to completely re-order the Middle East in a quixotic attempt to create liberal democracies there. It's time for an amicable divorce.

Women's March Leader Refuses to Acknowledge Israel's Right to Exist
[National Review] Embattled Women’s March co-chairwoman Tamika Mallory refused to acknowledge the state of Israel’s right to exist during a recent interview on PBS’s The Firing Line and seemed to suggest that, unlike Palestinians, Israelis were not "native" to the region.

Mallory, who has been forced in recent days to confront questions about her association with notorious anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan, acknowledged during the interview that "all people have the right to exist" but would not address the legitimacy of the Israeli state.

"I’m not Jewish, so for me to speak to that is not fair . . . because I’m speaking of the people who we know are being brutally oppressed at this moment," Mallory told PBS’s Margaret Hoover. "Everyone has a right to exist. . . . I just don’t feel that everyone has a right to exist at the disposal of another group."

"I believe that all people have the right to exist. And that Palestinians are also suffering with a great crisis. And that there are other Jewish scholars who will sit here and say the same," she added. "I’m done talking about this, you can move on."

Man sets himself on fire in central Prague
[PULSE.NG] A Czech man set himself on fire Friday in central Prague where the student activist Jan Palach self-immolated 50 years ago to protest the Soviet-led occupation of the then Czechoslovakia.

The man was put into an artificial coma and hospitalised with burns to his head and hands after setting himself alight at Wenceslas Square, officials said.

"The man born in 1964 set himself on fire around 3:00 pm using a flammable substance," Prague police said on Twitter, adding that passersby put out the flames with clothing and a fire extinguisher from a nearby coffee shop.

"Rescuers put the patient with burns covering 30 percent of his body in an artificial coma," Prague emergency services spokeswoman Jana Postova added on Twitter.

Police spokeswoman Andrea Zoulova told news hounds "there is no evidence the act had been a protest or politically motivated."

According to a witness quoted by local media, the man had two signs, one in Arabic and another using the Latin alphabet, as well as Christian crosses and a loudspeaker playing music.

"I thought he was a religious fanatic," one passerby who saw the man before the incident told the news site www.lidovky.cz.

"I saw him, he was muttering something, like a prayer," another passerby told public radio CRo1.

Hashd al-Shaabi kill, wound 35 ISIS in Syria: statement
[Rudaw] The Hashd al-Shaabi claimed on Friday their forces had killed dozens of ISIS gunnies in the Syrian town of Sousa town, one of the last towns still held by the turbans across the border.

"With accurate intelligence, the artillery of the Hashd was able to carry out accurate strikes against a group of ISIS members who were planning to attack our units. In a preemptive operation, 35 bad boyz were potted and maimed," read a statement from the Hashd al-Shaabi.

They said ISIS tried to exploit bad weather to carry out an attack.

The militias claimed to have killed several ISIS leaders ‐ named as Abu Waddah and Abu Hamza who headed up the Abu Fattoum group ‐ and caused "panic and withdrawal of the other members of the group."

The Iran-backed Hashd have forces on the border with Syria, part of Iraq’s bolstering the security of the border to prevent jihadists crossing into Iraqi territory. Baghdad’s concern for its national security rose when the US announced they plan to pull out of Syria before the full defeat of ISIS.

The Hashd said their forces on the border would continue to closely monitor the group's movements.

ISIS is has been pushed into an estimated 15 square kilometres of territory in the Euphrates River valley near the border, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Its hold continues to weaken as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) continues to advance.

"The security situation is under full control and the Hashd al-Shaabi forces monitor the movement of the enemy on the Syrian side," the militia stated.

Iraq’s National Security Advisor Falih al-Fayyadh, who is also the controversial nominee for interior minister, said Iraq has the consent of Damascus to strike ISIS inside Syrian territory.

shortly afterwards.

"There are reasons to examine whether the knife attack was terror-related and the investigation will try to clarify this," Benedicte Bjornland, the head of Norway's domestic intelligence service PST, told news hounds.

The suspect is a 20-year-old Russian national who arrived in Norway on Thursday from Russia, via Sweden, she said.

He was not previously known to Norway's intelligence services.

The PST was brought into the case because of information that emerged during police questioning of the suspect on Thursday.

"He said he wanted to kill people and that it was an act of terrorism," Bjornland told local media.

Public broadcaster NRK presented the suspect as Moslem.

The PST said nothing indicated that other people were involved or that other attacks were planned.

It also said it was evaluating whether to raise the threat level in Norway. In an assessment published in 2018, the PST said it was "possible" an attack inspired by radical Islamism could take place in the country.

If the attack were to be confirmed as a case of radical Islamism, it would be the first in the Scandinavian country.

Sindh CTD steps up monitoring of social media to prevent spread of ‘hatred, militancy’
[DAWN] As the federal government plans a new body to regulate the print, electronic and social media, the police authorities in Sindh have developed a technical team under its anti-terror wing that has started monitoring all digital platforms amid their growing use for "promotion of ideology of hatred, anti-state activism and militancy", a bigwig said on Thursday.

The fresh development from the Sindh police came after a series of steps announced by the federal government and institutions, including Pakistain Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), where "the infiltration of anti-state elements and promoters of different ideologies which cannot be dubbed as pro-nationalism" have sparked concerns, necessitating immediate and strong measures.

The move by the Sindh police, the official said, was the first of its kind by the law enforcement agency, which had realised the significance of the digital and social media platforms.

POTUS says he will make a ‘major' announcement on Saturday about the border and government shutdown
[CSNBC] President Donald Trump said he will make a "major" announcement on Saturday about the border and ongoing government shutdown.

The president did not provide any further details on what he would discuss on what is set to be the 28th day of the partial government shutdown. The White House press team offered no further guidance to reporters when asked about the president’s tweet late Friday.

The shutdown is the result of Congress’s inability to pass a short-term funding bill for the government that Trump would be willing to sign.

The president has insisted that such a bill contain more than $5 billion in funding to build a border wall. Democrats have refused to agree with that demand.

Trump cited the shutdown when he canceled his trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland next week. He also called off sending his delegation to the meeting, "out of consideration" of the 800,000 workers not receiving pay because of the shutdown. Press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement that Trump wanted his team to be available to "assist as needed."

Mueller's office says BuzzFeed report on Trump instructions to Cohen is BS
[WNKY] The Latest on a report that President Donald Trump directed his personal attorney to lie to Congress (all times local):

7:50 p.m.

The special counsel’s office has issued a rare public statement disputing the accuracy of a news report saying that President Donald Trump told his personal attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress.

The statement by Robert Mueller’s office on Friday night doesn’t cite any specific errors.

Spokesman Peter Carr says, "BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate."

12:50 p.m.

Donald Trump’s personal attorney is denying that the president told his former legal fixer, Michael Cohen, to lie to Congress about the details of a Trump business proposal in Russia.

Rudy Giuliani says in a statement that "Any suggestion‐ from any source‐ that the President counseled Michael Cohen to lie is categorically false." Giuliani is responding to a Buzzfeed News report saying that Trump directed Cohen to lie to Congress.

The report was based on information from two law enforcement officials with direct knowledge of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation. The officials are not named in the story.

The report says Cohen said Trump directed him to lie and investigators have additional documents and testimony backing that up.

The Grand Turk
Turkey Says Syria Regime Forces Shouldn't Be Allowed in Manbij
The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Friday insisted Syrian regime forces should not be allowed in Manbij as US troops withdraw, as proposed by a US-backed Kurdish militia viewed as faceless myrmidons by Ankara.

The strategic northern city has been held by the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) militia since 2016 after they recaptured the territory from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadists.

Turkey has repeatedly threatened to attack the YPG and said it would set up a "security zone" in northern Syria following a suggestion by Trump.

Last month, the YPG called on the regime to "assert control" over areas the militia was to withdraw from, including Manbij, to stop a "Ottoman Turkish invasion" and fiercely rejected a "security zone".

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday that the Syrian regime must take control of the country's north.

Turkey, which supports Syrian rebels and has called for Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Despoiler of Deraa...
's ouster, has conducted two previous offensives in Syria against IS and the YPG in 2016 and 2018.

In March last year, Ottoman Turkish military forces supporting Syrian rebels recaptured the YPG's western enclave of Afrin in Syria.

Turkey-US relations have been rocky in recent years over Washington's support to the YPG as well as the US failure to extradite a Pennsylvania-based Moslem preacher accused of ordering a failed coup in 2016.

Aksoy said Ottoman Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu would go to Washington for a meeting of the US-led coalition against IS on February 6.

And one day before Cavusoglu's visit, a Ottoman Turkish delegation led by deputy foreign minister Sedat Onal will go to the US for discussions on Syria.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham
... the endangered South Carolina RINO, fellow maverick of Honest John McCain...
, a loyal Trump supporter, was in Turkey on Friday for meetings with Ottoman Turkish officials including President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

Arabia
Yemen's Huthis finance war with fuel from Iran: UN report
[PULSE.NG] Fuel loaded from ports in Iran has generated revenue to finance the Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
Huthi rebel war effort against the Saudi-backed government, according to a report by a UN panel of experts seen by AFP.

Yemen's Houthis control the port of Hodeida, the main entry point for imports and other supplies to the country
The findings are expected to again raise questions about Iran's support for the Huthis in the war that has pushed Yemen to the brink of humanitarian catastrophe.

In its final report for 2018, the panel said it had "identified a small number of companies, both within Yemen and outside, which operated as front companies," using fake documents to conceal fuel donations.

The fuel was "for the benefit of a listed individual" who is on a UN sanctions blacklist, it added.

"The revenue from the sale of this fuel was used to finance the Huthi war effort," said the 85-page report sent to the Security Council.

The panel found that the "fuel was loaded from ports in the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran under false documentation" to avoid UN inspections of the cargo, it added.

The experts have in past reports pointed to a possible Iranian link to missiles fired by Houthis at Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. , after they traveled to Riyadh to examine weapons debris.

In a previous report, the experts said they were investigating monthly fuel donations from Iran valued at $30 million.

Iran has repeatedly denied that it is providing military support to the Huthis, who seized the capital Sanaa in 2014, prompting the Saudi-led coalition to intervene a year later to push back the rebels.

SAUDI COALITION BOMBINGS
The Huthis control the city and key port of Hodeida, a main entry point for imports to Yemen that pro-government forces had planned to capture in a new offensive launched in June.

A ceasefire in Hodeida was agreed during UN-brokered talks last month in Sweden and UN monitors are on the ground to oversee a pullback of forces from the port.

"Throughout the reporting period of 2018, Yemen continued its slide toward humanitarian and economic catastrophe," said the panel, which described the country as "deeply fractured" with a broken economy.

Kenyan Authorities Investigate Local Role In Nairobi Attack
[Jpost] Investigators in Kenya are exploring the possibility that some of the bandidos snuffies who attacked a Nairobi hotel and office complex may not have been ethnic Somalis, stoking fears that bandidos snuffies are deepening their pools of recruitment in the region.

Officials have released few details about the five-man assault team that carried out Tuesday's siege at the dusitD2 hotel complex,

But police, private security sources and local media reports have highlighted the involvement of a 26-year-old suspect identified in court documents as Ali Salim Gichunge, who was born and raised in central Kenya, as evidence of the group's lure to some people outside its traditional strongholds.

An officer who was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly told Rooters police were pursuing a woman suspected of ferrying weapons to Nairobi from Kiunga, near the border with Somalia, via the port city of Mombasa.

Those close to Gichunge said they were stunned when he appeared in CCTV footage of the attack toting an assault rifle and firing at a white car.

"I have a lot of questions that need answers just like everyone else," said Gichunge's sister, who was reached by phone in Mombasa. "I also saw him on TV, and we didn't expect him to be there."

The pair's father is an officer in the Kenyan military, she told Rooters.

"It is inconceivable how the son of a military man can turn out to be a member of al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
," she said.

Although raised Moslem, Gichunge began his education at a Catholic mission school in his eastern home town of Isiolo before moving to the central region of Meru for high school, where he was bullied and beaten severely, she said.

Gichunge, who also used the alias Faruk, later secured work at an internet cafe in Isiolo.

"It all started there," his sister said. "He was able to access new materials online, go to Facebook, he started studying Arabic language and all sorts of things."

She said she lost contact with her brother when he moved to Lamu, on the Kenyan coast near the border with Somalia, in 2015.

"He was a very quiet guy," a friend of Gichunge's told Rooters, asking not to be named. "You would never have expected him to turn out like that."

A police official and a private security professional who took part in rescue efforts at the complex said a man who went kaboom! outside a restaurant was also believed to be a non-Somali.

A passerby heard him repeating "where are you?" in flawless Swahili, presumably into a phone, the security professional told Rooters. The language is used throughout Kenya but not in Somalia where most people speak Somali.

Al-Shabaab has in the past recruited some East Africans, including four Kenyans and three Ugandans who were charged in connection with a bombing in Uganda in 2010.

Rashid Abdi, Horn of Africa Project Director at the International Crisis Group, a Brussels-based think tank, said the group has been actively recruiting in the region.

"Al-Shabaab remains an organization with its roots in Somalia but has evolved into a transnational, regional jihadi organization," he said.

Al-Shabaab has launched several large-scale attacks on Kenya in recent years, including a 2013 assault on a shopping mall in the same neighborhood as Tuesday's attack. Kenya angered the group in 2011 by sending in forces to create a buffer zone along the countries' shared border.

Al-Shabaab said it carried out Tuesaday's assault over U.S. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Sixteen Kenyans, including a policeman, an American survivor of the Sept. 11, 2001, al Qaeda attacks on the United States, and a British development worker were among the dead at the 14 Riverside Drive complex.

Bombing at jihadist munition depot kills 11 in north Syria: monitor
[Rudaw] A bombing at an ammunition depot killed 11 people on Friday in the jihadist-held city of Idlib in northwestern Syria, a Britannia-based war monitor said.

It targeted the arms store belonging to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham
, an alliance led by Syria's former al-Qaeda affiliate, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The blast killed seven HTS fighters and four other people, the war monitor said.

"Initial information points to a boom-mobile," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

HTS controls the city of Idlib, as well as the surrounding anti-regime bastion of the same name.

Last week, the jihadist-led alliance took administrative control of the whole of the region -- which is made up of a large part of the Idlib province, as well as adjacent chunks of the Aleppo and Hama provinces.

Abdel Rahman said ISIS was likely responsible for the bombing, after HTS executed members of the krazed killer group the previous day.

"The soldiers stood their ground and fought the bandidos forces of Evil for close to three hours and forced them to flee," he said.

Civilian militia leader Mustapha Karimbe said the attack began at about 5pm (1600 GMT) on Thursday and lasted until about 8pm.

"Luckily the button men met stiff resistance from the soldiers," said Karimbe from the town of Biu, some 30 kilometres (18 miles) away.

There were no immediate details about casualties.

It was also not clear which Boko Haram faction was behind the attack, although the IS-affiliated Islamic State

''Canadian'' among 6 terror suspects in court over Riverside attack
[CAPITALFM.CO.KE] The Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) was Friday granted thirty days to detain five suspects, including a Canadian, who were arraigned in court over the Tuesday terror attack on 14 Riverside Drive that killed 21 people.

The prosecution had moved to court seeking to detain the suspects further in order to conclude investigations the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji had said were at an advanced stage.

Those presented in court include, Joel Ng’ang’a Wainaina, Oliver Kanyango Muthee, Gladys Kaari Justus, Guleid Abdihakim (Canadian) and Osman Ibrahim‐all believed to have facilitated five Al-Shabaab

holy warriors who launched the deadly attack described by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary as having targeted the world.

The sixth suspect was arraigned separately, and police were allowed to detain him until Wednesday.

The prosecution told the court that among the suspects were taxi drivers who ferried the attackers to various locations in the city including 14 Riverside Drive and a mobile-money transfer agent who sent them money.

Another suspect is said to have been seen, in surveillance footage reviewed by Sherlocks, talking to one of the attackers at the dusitD2 hotel complex where the al-Shabaab linked bully boyz laid a siege that started on Tuesday at 3pm and ended on Wednesday morning at about 9 pm when four of them were all killed. The first terror suspect went kaboom! outside Secret Garden hotel, killing six people‐according to police.

Police had earlier said they were holding 11 suspects, but it is understood that some of them are still being interrogated before a decision is made on whether they should face charges while others have been freed.
An Nahar adds:
Those who appeared in court include Joel Ng'ang'a Wainaina, a taxi driver who ferried the attackers around on several occasions, and Oliver Kanyango Muthee, a taxi driver who drove one of the assailants to the scene of the attack.

Gladys Kaari Justus is being investigated over the transfer of money while Guleid Abdihakim -- who holds Canadian citizenship -- is being probed over suspicious communication.

The other suspect Osman Ibrahim is alleged to have met with one of the attackers on January 8.

Two suspects yet to appear in court, Ali Salim Gichunge and Violet Kemunto Omwoyo possessed SIM cards that were in "constant communication" with numbers in Somalia, court documents revealed.

A Paleostinian tossed in the clink

after he crossed the border from Gazoo into Israel on Friday morning told interrogators he was a member of the Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, terrorist organization, the army said in a statement.

The man breached the border fence to the north of the Gazoo Strip and immediately surrendered before he was apprehended by Israeli troops, the IDF spokesperson’s unit said.

Hebrew-language media reported that he was unarmed.

Around 10,000 Paleostinians participated in riots along the border on Friday afternoon, throwing rocks, fire bombs and hand grenades at Israeli troops, and burning tires. Israeli soldiers reportedly responded with tear gas and, in some cases, live fire.

A number of Paleostinians briefly breached the border and entered Israel before quickly returning to Gazoo, Hadashot news reported.

The Hamas-run Gazoo Health Ministry said that 43 people were maimed in the festivities, including two members of the press and three medical personnel.

Hamas leader Ahmed Bahar warned the prime minister that the protesters would continue to "humiliate" Israel.

"Netanyahu, we are continuing with the help of God," said Bahar, according to Hadashot news. "Our people are holding many cards that will humiliate the criminal Zionist enemy."

Libyan forces say Al-Qaeda commander killed in southern op
[PULSE.NG] The forces of Libyan strongman Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
said they killed on Friday three jihadists including a senior al-Qaeda member in the south of the country days after launching a security operation.

Ahmad al-Mesmari, a front man for Haftar's self-proclaimed Libyan National Army, described the three as "terrorists" and identified them as Abdel Monem al-Hasnaoui, also known as Abu Talha al-Libi, al-Mahdi Dengo and Egyptian citizen Abdullah al-Dessouki.

He said they were killed during "a special operation... Friday in al-Qarda al-Chatti region of southwestern Libya".

Abu Talha -- a Libyan whose death was reported on several past occasions including in an 2016 air raid by unidentified aircraft -- is said by Libya to be a senior operative of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM).

Mesmari gave no further details on the other two suspects.

Libyan authorities use the word "terrorists" to refer to jihadists.

On Wednesday his self-style LNA forces announced they had launched a military operation to "purge" jihadists and criminal gangs from the south of Libya.

Turkey-backed militants cite religion to flatten tombs in Afrin
Sultan Erdogan Recep Tayyip I “the much beloved” will allow no evidence of Kurdish history to exist, even in another country.
[Rudaw] Citing religious rules, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
-backed Islamist factions in control of Afrin are systematically destroying cemeteries in the Kurdish enclave.

A resident of Afrin who wished to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation said that on Wednesday bully boyz of the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA) removed tombstones from the graves in Edama village in the district.

The tombs were also leveled. The bully boyz told the residents that their reason was religious and the tombs were too high above ground and needed to be flattened.

Last week, Turkey’s proxies also went to Meydanke village in the Shera district of Afrin under the same religious pretext, doing the same thing to that cemetery.

In December, more than 500 tombs in Sinare village in the Shera district were destroyed by the bad boys. Their reasoning reportedly was to enlarging the roads.

In Islam, there are rules for tombs, but certain Salafist fatwas decree for tombs to be flat with the land and that it is irreligious to have them adorned or be above ground.

The groups operating in Afrin took over the city with Ottoman Turkish help on March 18, 2018, after 58 days of fighting. Turkey claimed that the city was run by gunnies and that it posed a danger to Ankara’s national security.

Afrin, a Kurdish majority district known for its olive trees, was stable and safe prior to the invasion, hosting numerous refugees from the rest of Syria. It was a canton of the Northern Syrian Federation, administered by TEV-DEM.

Yezidis, Assyrians, Syriacs, some Arabs and Turkmen participated in the defense of Afrin under the banner of the Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG).

Since the takeover, half of the population has been living in camps. Their houses have been occupied and olive groves and factories taken over.

Kurdish symbols ‐ like the statue of Kaveh the Blacksmith ‐ have been destroyed, and streets and other places have been changed to Ottoman Turkish or Arabic names. Kurdish has also been removed as an official language, replaced with Arabic and Ottoman Turkish.

violations and engaged in looting. They have regularly destroyed cemeteries, each time citing different reasons. Claiming violation of religion is the latest trend.

Women's bicycle rally in Peshawar cancelled after protest threat by devout men with turbans
Moslem holy men + women's bicycle seats = recipe for disaster
[DAWN] The first women's bicycle rally scheduled to take place in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
on January 19 was cancelled after religious parties on Friday threatened to protest against the event, officials said.

Zama Jawandoon, an organization working for women's rights, had organised the 'peace rally' that was scheduled to begin from Peshawar's Hayatabad neighbourhood on Saturday.

According to the event's organiser, Wafa Wazir, at least 35 women were slated to participate in the rally and they had also invited people from the transgender community.

But the Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...a Pak religious party. It is usually part of the govt, never part of the solution...
‐ Fazl (JUI-F), Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
, and other religious parties on Friday announced they would stage a protest against the rally at the Bagh-e-Naran in Hayatabad.

"The women's bicycle rally is spreading obscenity," JUI-F's Maulana Rafiullah Qasmi was quoted as saying at a meeting held earlier today.
"The idea of those plump, pumping thighs, the butts... the succulent, swaying boobies, bent low over the long, round, hard handlebars... I must... I must... shoot off! My gun! I must shoot off my gun! Oh, Allah! Grant me... boobies!"
He announced that they would contact the relevant departments to have the event cancelled and if that is not done, a demonstration will be held against the rally at 9am tomorrow.

The threat of the protest led the organisers to cancel the rally a day before it was scheduled to take place.

Speaking to DawnNewsTV, Wafa Wazir, the lead organiser, said they had approached the Peshawar district administration before announcing the rally and were subsequently issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) to hold the event.

But she said they had decided to postpone the event after the protest call by religious groups because they did not want the rally to take place in a state of any unrest.

When contacted, police said the organisers of the event had not approached them to obtain an NOC or seek security.

"After receiving information about the [planned] protest against the race, police contacted the organisers and they revealed that the rally had been postponed," SP Cantt Wasim Riaz said.

He said it was the responsibility of police to provide security to any events in the city, adding that organisers must first obtain police clearance.

According to SP Riaz, police had not received any directions from the district administration or any other department for the provision of security to the women's bicycle rally.

Meanwhile,
...back at the fist fight, Jake ducked another roundhouse, then parried with his left, then with his right, finally with his chin...
the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa directorate general of sports issued a statement to distance itself from the scheduled rally, even though it practically had nothing to do with the event.

"It has come to the notice of the [sports directorate] that some people are agitating protest regarding the organising of [a] female cycle race," the notice read. "It is clarified that this office is unaware regarding the organising of the said event."

It said the directorate had neither organised the event nor was the Hayatabad Sports Complex being provided to any NGO to hold the same.

Sri Lanka Seize Explosives from Local Islamist Radicals
[AnNahar] Sri Lanka's police seized a haul of high explosives stashed near a wildlife sanctuary following the arrest of four men from a newly formed radical Moslem group, officials said Friday.

Elite police commandos and detectives stumbled on the explosives which included some 100 detonators from a make-shift warehouse near the Wilpattu national park, police said.

"Following information received by the CID (Criminal Investigations Department), they found 100 kilos (220 pounds) of high explosives and 100 detonators," police said in a statement.

Official sources said the discovery was made during investigations into recent hate attacks against Buddha statues elsewhere in the country in an apparent attempt to spark tensions between majority Buddhists and minority Moslems.

"The information we have at the moment is that a radicalised local group of Moslems are behind the explosives seized on Thursday," an official said asking not to be named.

"We are trying to see if they had any links with Death Eaters abroad."

There have been no attacks in Sri Lanka linked to foreign Islamist groups despite local media reports that a 37-year-old Sri Lankan had been killed in Syria in 2015 while fighting for Islamic State

The latest discovery of explosives in the north-west of the island on Thursday is one of the biggest finds since the country ended its decades-long war against Tamil separatists in 2009.

There has been sporadic violence against minority Moslems, and several Buddhist monks and their followers have been jugged

In Sri Lanka Moslems are considered an ethnic group. Almost all Buddhists in Sri Lanka are from the majority Sinhalese community.

Sri Lanka declared a 12-day nation-wide state of emergency in May last year following inter-communal riots led by Sinhalese mobs in the central district of Kandy where three people were killed and hundreds of shops and homes were destroyed.

[AlAhram] In the latest in a long string of attacks in Minya a crowd of murderous Moslems this week attacked a Coptic prayer house which they claimed was an unlicensed church in Zaafarana village and expelled the priest.

Pope Tawadros II, patriarch of the See of St Mark, said in a recent television interview that he was deeply saddened by the sectarian incidents that occur in the area and stressed that informal arbitration councils are incapable of resolving the problem. The solution, he said, is to enforce the law.

Though recurrent, sectarian violence is not common to all parts of Minya. In some areas Coptic and Moslem neighbours live in peace and harmony.

Some are of the opinion that Minya has more than its share of Lion of Islams. Others counter that eruptions of sectarian violence in the governorate are the work of a small minority who fire the credulous with falsehoods and misguided ideas.

Political analyst Nabil Abdel-Fattah attributes the frequency of sectarian strife in Minya to ignorance, unemployment and a range of economic problems.

"The lack of public services and infrastructure in most villages, from potable water and proper wastewater disposal systems to electricity and healthcare, combined with high unemployment rates among university graduates and graduates of other institutions of higher education, has created a social environment lacking hope.'

"This environment, with its dearth of development programmes and lack of horizons for young people, breeds Lion of Islam religious ideas and radicalism," Abdel-Fattah recently wrote.

"The fact that some local agencies and prominent families then resort to informal councils and apply their rulings to contain sectarian disputes is actually a cause of their reoccurrence."

In a statement released this week, the office of the Minya diocese said that the attacks which happened Friday actually began a few days earlier when, on 7 January, a group of murderous Moslems stormed a small place in which prayer services have been held for some time.

According to sources, the incident forced Reverend Macarius, the bishop of Minya, to postpone his annual trip to Canada which had been scheduled for the end of January.

Bishop Macarius has been quoted as saying that it is the government which should decide if there have been violations regarding the construction of a church, not individuals.

The bishop said that as citizens Copts are only demanding their rights.

Commenting on the closure of the prayer house in Zaafarana, MP Mahmoud Badr said: "A thousand ignoramuses and rabble rousers marched against a prayer to God. A thousand miscreants for whom faith is ignorance arm themselves with a thousand fatwas by sheikhs for whom ignorance is a religion. I believe that this is the first true test of the [newly founded] Supreme Council to Combat Sectarian Strife."

"The solution is in the rule of law. Local arbitration councils are not the solution. The solution is to be found in a strong state that protects its people’s right to freedom of worship," MP Badr added.

A study conducted by the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) showed that rumours are instrumental to igniting or aggravating sectarian festivities. In many cases incidents are triggered by rumour campaigns to stop the construction of a church or new religious edifice, EIPR said.

Other incidents are ignited by a trumped up "scandal" involving an amorous relationship between members of different faiths. The rumour mill serves as a device for sectarian mobilisation on a scale that extends beyond a particular location to include entire neighbourhoods and nearby villages that have no relationship to the parties directly involved in the dispute.

Other studies have found that multiple factors converge to make Minya the governorate most plagued by sectarian violence. There is the rugged topography, demographic composition and sharp class contrasts. In the midst of widespread poverty one finds "plantations" with luxurious villas and other ostentatious manifestations of wealth. In addition, some local churches rival the grandeur of cathedrals in their opulence and scale.

Militants kill more than 100 soldiers in northeast Nigeria since late December: Aid agencies
[AlAhram] Armed groups have killed more than 100 soldiers and captured a huge stock of weapons in festivities in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
since Dec. 26, a report by a group of aid agencies said on Friday.

Attacks had intensified over the past few weeks and forced thousands of people to flee to safer areas in Nigeria and over the border to neighboring Chad, the report said.

The surge has occurred in the run-up to an election on Feb. 16 in which President Muhammadu Buhari is seeking a second term, turning security into a campaign issue. The attacks have mostly been carried out by an Islamic State

Nigerian defense ministry and military spokesmen did not immediately respond to requests by Rooters for comment.

The report by the Global Protection Cluster in Chad, a group of aid agencies led by the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
High Commissioner for Refugees, said: "Raids against the Nigerian army have killed more than 100 Nigerian soldiers. According to the information available, the gangs captured a huge stock of weapons."

The report said attacks in the Baga-Kawa area of northeast Nigeria on Dec. 26 caused more than 6,357 people to flee into Chad and some 20,000 others to flee to safety within Nigeria.

Last month, Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA), which split from Boko Haram in 2016, seized the town of Baga, where a multi-national force fighting the snuffies is based. Troops later regained Baga.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma said the 14 Riverside Drive complex was targeted because it hosted a number of global establishments and international interests.

"While this attack on the Dusit Complex was on the Kenyan territory, it was targeted at the world. The complex hosts a range international establishments and interests," she said at a briefing to foreign envoys based in Nairobi.

Juma who was accompanied by Cabinet colleagues Fred Matiangi (Interior) and Najib Balala (Tourism), and National Police Service Inspector General Joseph Boinnet said more than ever, concerted efforts by the international community were critical to degrading terror groups.

"The attack is a clear reminder that the terrorists’ objective is to change the way of life of other societies is alive. It is a reminder that no country is immune to international terrorism," the CS told the diplomatic corps.

Somali-based krazed killer group al-Shabaab that grabbed credit for the attack had said in a statement aired on its radio arm, Andalus, it carried out the attack in response to a decision by United States President Donald Trump

Europe
French rapper MHD charged with murder over Paris brawl
[CAPITALFM.CO.KE] French rapper MHD was on Thursday charged with murder over a fight that led to the death of a young man in July, his lawyer said in a statement.

The 24-year-old Gay Pareeian performer, whose real name is Mohammed Sylla, "contests any involvement in this brawl", lawyer Elise Arfi said in the statement sent to AFP.

She said she would appeal against the presiding judge’s decision to hold her client in provisional detention.

The rapper was detained along with three other suspects who were also charged over the incident in which a 23-year-old man died after having been stabbed and beaten in the French capital, in what a source close to the enquiry called "a settling of scores" between rival gangs.

Sylla’s lawyer said he had "never been involved in conflicts between rival gangs".

MHD, a contraction of his first name Mohammed, is the self-proclaimed inventor of "Afro-trap", a new brand of hip-hop. He is best known for "Afro Trap Part. 3 (Champions League)", a song in praise of the Gay Paree Saint-Germain football club and for his eponymous first album.

France to try 14 people over Jan 2015 Paris attacks
[IsraelTimes] Assault on Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
satirical magazine, a policewoman, and a Jewish supermarket killed 17 people.

French anti-terror judges have recommended that 14 people be tried in connection with the January 2015 jihadist attacks in and around Gay Paree, a judicial source told AFP Friday.

The attacks against the Gay Paree offices of the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine, a policewoman in the nearby suburb of Montrouge, and a Jewish supermarket killed 17 people and marked the start of a wave of jihadist attacks in La Belle France.

Eleven people are in jug suspected of assisting in the attacks, while another three are wanted by police.

Under French law, they can appeal the decision to send them to trial.

The trial, whose date will be determined at a later date, will come more than four years after brothers Cherif and Said Kouachi killed 12 people at the offices of Charlie Hebdo on January 7, 2015.

The next day a policewoman was bumped off just outside Gay Paree, while another gunman, Amedy Coulibaly, took hostages at a Jewish Hyper Cacher shop, four of whom were killed.

All three attackers were killed in two separate shootouts with police.

Those to be tried are accused of "complicity" in assisting the attackers, including providing them with weapons.

Judicial sources said investigations in connection with the attacks were continuing, notably in Yemen, which one of the Kouachi brothers visited in 2011.

Responsibility for the attack against Charlie Hebdo was claimed by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000...
, an offshoot of the main al-Qaeda organization.
