International BigLaw Firm Sullivan and Cromwell To Ramp Up Vetting Of New Hires Amid Wave Of Pro-Palestinian Protests
Consequences.
[TaxProfBlog] As pro-Paleostinian protests spread across university campuses, Sullivan & Cromwell’s senior chair said Wednesday the firm will be "more vigilant" in screening potential candidates. The firm is now outlining some of its vetting processes in that effort, including reviewing resumes, social media, news reports and student group affiliations and employing third-party specialists for background checks. ...

Senior firm chair Joe Shenker has maintained a strong position against hate speech and bias during the Israel/Hamas
..a regional Iranian catspaw,...
conflict, taking the lead on efforts such as a group letter signed by dozens of law firm leaders sent to law school deans that maintained an "unequivocal stance" in opposition to antisemitism. Shenker was in his Jerusalem synagogue’s bomb shelter when the Hamas-led attack on Israel began on Oct. 7.

In a statement Wednesday, Sullivan & Cromwell said it will "review resumes for participation in pro-terrorist groups and other similar activities" as well as do a "thorough review of the candidate’s online presence, school website [and] news reports" moving forward.

It will also request "lists of all campus organizations the student has been or is currently a part of and monitor activities from those groups that do no align with our ethical standards," the firm said.

In addition, the firm said it will employ third-party specialists to do formal background checks.

Normally I would say, imagine how quick a any Group, Business or Legal firm that is found to have hired such person(s) would have to close its doors.

But given this new generation of Mindless Smartphone Minions and LSD's Open Borders, which has allowed unchecked the influx of such hostile illegals. A Democrat controlled USA currently seems to be clearly headed in the direction of becoming the United Socialist States of America that supports Genocidal Racism against Jewish persons and Whites.

The union representing Columbia’s custodians is planning to sue over the university’s indifference and negligence regarding the safety of its members, who were trapped and made captives in the student seizure of Hamilton Hall.

...The union may be planning to sue the protesters, too, as it is working to gather security camera footage and the names of students arrested during the campus riots.

And that may be just the beginning.

George Washington University law professor John Banzhaf, who pioneered the class action litigation against tobacco companies, predicts that there will be more lawsuits against the protesters and their backers.

Erdogan: Over 1,000 Hamas members being treated in hospitals in Turkey
[IsraelTimes] Ottoman Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan says that more than 1,000 members of the Paleostinian terror group Hamas
..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
are being treated in hospitals across The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
, reiterating his stance that Hamas is a "resistance movement."

Speaking at a presser after talks with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Ankara, Erdogan also says he was saddened by the Greek view of Hamas a terrorist organization.

Hamas has had an office in Turkey since 2011 when Turkey helped secure the agreement for the terror group to free Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

The Iran-backed group is designated as a terrorist organization by a host of countries including Israel, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada along with the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...

Former US military intel official says he resigned over Washington’s support for Israel in Gaza war

[IsraelTimes] A former US military intelligence official says that his November resignation was in fact due to "moral injury" stemming from Washington’s support for Israel in its war against Hamas

and the harm caused to Paleostinians.

In a letter to his colleagues at the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), Harrison Mann, an Army major, says he kept quiet about his motives for resigning for months out of fear.

"I was afraid. Afraid of violating our professional norms. Afraid of disappointing officers I respect. Afraid you would feel betrayed. I’m sure some of you will feel that way reading this," Mann writes in a letter shared with colleagues last month and published on his LinkedIn profile today.

He is the first known DIA official to quit over US support to Israel.

The Defense Intelligence Agency does not respond to a request for comment.

Mann’s case differs from other US government officials, including several State Department officials, who publicly deplored US policy as they resigned rather than waiting months to explain their departure.

He says he felt shame and guilt for helping advance US policy that he said contributed to the mass killing of Paleostinians.

"At some point — whatever the justification — you’re either advancing a policy that enables the mass starvation of children, or you’re not," Mann writes.

Amsterdam University closed for 2 days after masked anti-Israel activists storm building in violent sit-in
[IsraelTimes] The University of Amsterdam says it will remain closed for two days, after police moved in to end an anti-Israel, pro-Paleostinian protest at one of its campuses earlier today.

The university’s board says it had cancelled all classes tomorrow and Wednesday and will close all buildings, as it says it cannot guarantee safety for those on campus.

The university has been the scene of violent mostly peaceful festivities between protesters and riot police three times in the past week, as activists who demand that the university cuts all ties with Israeli institutions blocked and occupied campuses.

Today’s protest started as a walk out by university staff and students in response to the violent mostly peaceful end to an occupation of a university building on Wednesday.

The university’s board says this protest was peaceful until a group of masked outsiders joined the original group and started blocking entrances and emergency exits, causing serious damage to the building and its library.

, the Dutch protest group behind the action says in a statement.

A spokesperson for the University of Amsterdam (UvA) confirms the occupation and says it advised people who are not affiliated with the protest to leave the building.

Videos posted on social media show students wearing keffiyeh scarves and holding anti-Israel signs, with some masked students barricading doors with furniture.

The Eindhoven University of Technology confirms that there are "dozens of students peacefully protesting outside next to ten to 15 tents."

The University of Groningen does not immediately reply to a request for comment.

, Yahya Sinwar, has been running a secret police force that conducts surveillance on Paleostinian civilians in order to quash dissent, according to a US newspaper report.
No! Who could have imagined such a thing?!
The report in The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

, which reviewed a 62-slide presentation on the activities of Sinwar’s General Security Service, says that the force built dossiers on "young people, journalists and those who questioned the government."

The unit relied on a network of informants who reported Paleostinians for publicly criticizing Hamas, protesting, or "carrying on romantic relationships outside marriage," according to the New York Times.

"The documents show that Hamas leaders, despite claiming to represent the people of Gaza, would not tolerate even a whiff of dissent," the report says.

5 troops seriously hurt in Gaza; Palestinian man said killed as UN car hit in Rafah

also targeted troops with mortar fire, amid fighting across Strip

Five Israeli soldiers and a Defense Ministry contractor were seriously maimed in a series of incidents in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip in recent days, the military announced Monday, as heavy fighting between troops and Hamas continued on Memorial Day in Israel.

Also Sunday, a United Nations
...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly...
vehicle came under fire in southern Gaza’s Rafah, killing a Paleostinian driver and wounding a UN worker, according to Paleostinian media reports. According to Israel’s Kan news, the incident took place near the Rafah Border Crossing.

It was unclear if Israeli forces or terror operatives shot up the UN car. The Israel Defense Forces said it was looking into the incident.

In Rafah, the IDF said that two soldiers of the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit were seriously maimed by mortars launched by Hamas. The terror group claimed to have targeted troops near the Rafah Crossing with Egypt, which was captured by the IDF last week.

Another six troops were moderately hurt in the same incident.

A Defense Ministry contractor was seriously hurt and another two employees were lightly hurt in another incident in southern Gaza, the military added.

The IDF also reported that on Sunday night, a soldier of the Givati Brigade’s Rotem Battalion was seriously maimed during a shootout with operatives in the northern Gaza Strip.

Separately, the IDF said two troops of the Golani Brigade’s 51st Battalion were seriously maimed in an "operational accident" on the Gaza border, near the border community of Nir Am.

Meanwhile,
...back at the abandoned silver mine, the water was up to Jack's neck and still rising. And then he smelled the smoke...
the Israeli Air Force struck more than 120 targets across Gaza over the past day, the military said Monday, as ground forces continued to operate in three locations in the Strip.

The 162nd Division was battling Hamas in eastern Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, including on the Paleostinian side of the border crossing with Egypt.

The IDF said the division’s Givati Infantry Brigade raided Hamas sites in the area, killing button men and locating weapons and rocket launchers in the process; and the 401st Armored Brigade raided and destroyed additional sites, and seized weapons found at a school.

Paleostinian residents reported heavy shelling and Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s on the eastern part of the city. The IDF has been operating in eastern Rafah since last week.

Some 360,000 Gazooks have fled the southern city of Rafah since Israel began ordering evacuations from a section of the city last week, according to UNRWA, the main United Nations aid agency in Gaza.

Meanwhile,
...back at the abandoned silver mine, the water was up to Jack's neck and still rising. And then he smelled the smoke...
the IDF’s 98th Division was operating in northern Gaza’s Jabaliya, after the military said it identified Hamas forces regrouping there.

The division’s 7th Armored Brigade and 460th Armored Brigade killed several button men during battles in the area, while the IAF struck several Hamas targets, including underground sites and a building where operatives were gathered, the IDF said.

Israeli tanks, under cover of heavy fire from air and ground, pushed further into Jabaliya in northern Gaza on Monday, residents and Hamas media said.

Tanks were advancing toward the heart of the camp, the largest of Gaza’s eight historic so-called refugee camps, locals said (these are not camps of refugees of the current war, but towns that have existed for decades). Residents said tank shells landed at the center of the camp and that airstrikes destroyed clusters of houses.

The military on Sunday said it had launched a new offensive against Hamas in Jabaliya, after identifying terror operatives regrouping there. A day earlier, the IDF issued an evacuation warning for Jabaliya, where it estimated 100,000-150,000 Paleostinians were sheltering.

Residents and medics claim several people were killed and maimed in a series of airstrikes on the camp overnight. The corpse counts reported by Hamas officials could not be verified.

The IDF’s 99th Division was meanwhile operating in Gaza City’s Zeitoun, similarly after the IDF identified Hamas forces regrouping there.

The IDF said the division’s Multi-Domain Unit raided a weapons depot at the home of a Hamas operative in Zeitoun, and directed an airstrike against a sniper in the area.

The fighting in Gaza on Monday came as Israel marked Memorial Day for fallen soldiers and victims of terror. Since last year’s Memorial Day, 1,600 soldiers and civilians have been killed in combat or by terror, according to figures released by authorities. Some 1,200 of those were killed during Hamas’s October 7 attacks on Israel.

Also Monday, the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza claimed that the Paleostinian territory’s health system was "hours away" from collapse, after fighting blocked fuel shipments through key crossings.

"We are just hours away from the collapse of the health system in the Gaza Strip due to the lack of the necessary fuel to operate generators in hospitals, ambulances, and [for vehicles to] transport staff," the ministry said in a statement.

The Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories said Sunday night that it had coordinated the transfer of 266,000 liters (70,000 gallons) of fuel for use in hospitals or other humanitarian needs.

The war in Gaza erupted after Hamas’s October 7 attacks, which saw some 3,000 bandidos bandidos bad boys burst across the border into Israel by land, air and sea, killing some 1,200 people and seizing 252 hostages amid acts of brutality and sexual assault.

Israel has said it has killed some 15,000 terror operatives in Gaza, in addition to some 1,000 bandidos bandidos bad boys inside Israel on October 7, while 272 soldiers have been killed during the ground offensive against Hamas and in the course of operations along the Gaza border.

Germany has deported 222 Iraqis this year: Ministry
[Rudaw] Germany has deported 222 Iraqi citizens so far in 2024 as part of an alleged agreement reached between Berlin and Baghdad to deport migrants colonists who have no chance to remain in Germany, sources told Rudaw.

Neither the German nor the Iraqi governments have confirmed the agreement, but according to information sent to Rudaw by the German interior ministry, a large number of migrants colonists have been deported to Iraq and the Kurdsitan Region over the past two weeks.

A spokesperson for the German interior ministry on Friday told Rudaw’s Znar Shino that Germany deported 222 Iraqi citizens in the first three months of 2024 - 169 of which were sent back to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and 53 to other countries from which the migrants colonists had come from.

A total of 22,757 Iraqi citizens have been ordered to leave the country, according to the interior ministry, 20,611 of which have duldung - an order certifying that they cannot leave or be deported due to obstacles.

Germany is a favored destination country for Kurds and Iraqis who want to immigrate to Europe.

Each year, tens of thousands of predominantly young individuals depart Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, seeking improved prospects in Europe. In pursuit of a better life, they navigate perilous smuggling routes, risk their lives in harsh and freezing travel conditions, and undertake treacherous sea crossings to reach mainland Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
or the United Kingdom.

The German states of Bavaria and North-Rhine Westphalia have the largest number of migrant from the Kurdistan Region. According to data obtained by Rudaw this week, 77 Iraqi citizens have been deported from Bavaria and 288 have voluntarily returned to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

In North-Rhine Westphalia, 14 of the 27 Iraqi citizens deported from that state have been sent back to Iraq.

In an interview with Rudaw in August 2023, Gonul Eglence, a member of the regional parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia, said that Iraqi asylum seekers must not be deported to Iraq because it is an unsafe country. She explained that many individuals cannot be deported because they could face political persecution or their lives would be at risk due to their religious beliefs.

"Those people will not be deported. Instead, they receive Duldung. That means they can stay temporarily," Eglence said.

In 2023, more than 500 Iraqi nationals were deported from Germany, only around 200 of which were sent back to Iraq while the others were sent to third countries.

Another Potential Conflict of Interest for Judge Merchan
[PJM] Judge Juan Merchan, the Biden-donor judge presiding over Donald Trump's criminal trial in New York City, hasn’t exactly been shy about his anti-Trump bias. He has taken any opportunity he could to stack the deck against Trump, and Trump, for his part, hasn’t been shy about calling out Merchan’s bias.

Trump also pointed out that Merchan’s daughter, Loren Merchan, is a Democrat operative who has even worked for the Biden-Harris campaign and has been working to destroy Trump while also profiting off of the ongoing trial.

Despite ample conflicts of interest that should have seen Judge Merchan taken off the case, we have now learned that Loren Merchan also assisted the effort to kick Donald Trump off the ballot in Colorado.

Rep. Jamaal "Fire Marshal" Bowman says ‘From the river to the sea' chant isn't hate speech during debate
[NY Post] Rep. Jamaal Bowman insisted the phrase “From the river to the sea” — which implies the destruction of Israel — isn’t hateful during a high-stakes debate Monday night.

The two-term congressman defended anti-Israel protesters who use the controversial phrase, despite the Anti-Defamation League’s criticism that is calls for the annihilation of the Jewish state.

“I know some do, others don’t, I do not,” Bowman (D-NY) said in response to a question from an audience member at Monday’s News 12 debate against Westchester County Executive George Latimer ahead of June’s Democratic primary.

Meanwhile, Latimer offered a sharp contrast to Bowman’s brief assessment.

“I think it is hate speech because I think it’s clear that ‘From the river to the sea’ has meant specifically the eradication of the Jewish population from the land of Israel,” Latimer said. Latimer, 70, also said some young protesters might be parroting the phrase while not understanding its meaning.

“What’s behind the marketing campaign that’s being advanced is to try to delegitimize Israel and that there be a free Palestine is a hopeful sign, but it has to accept the fact that there is an Israel there as well,” he said.

Bowman, 48, made clear earlier in the debate that he believes in Israel’s right to exist and wants a two-state solution. Latimer has also said he agrees with a two-state solution.

The two sparred for nearly 60 minutes during the local television debate, during which sparks flew at times.

Renowned Attorney John Eastman Delivers Blistering Speech on Illegitimate 2020 President Election
[Gateway] Brilliant scholar and former Trump attorney John Eastman, traveled to Michigan on Friday night.

Attorney Eastman delivered a powerful speech on lawfare and how it’s being used against President Trump and his supporters. Mr. Eastman addressed a large crowd in Lansing, Michigan, at an event that was hosted by Michigan’s top election integrity group, MI Fair Elections, which was created by the incredible author and patriot extraordinaire Patrice Johnson.

John Eastman described the election fraud in 2020 in great detail during his speech.

The Biden regime and deep state players DO NOT want you to know this.

Enjoy!

Attorney John Eastman: Thank you all so much. I start this story when I get a call from the White House switchboard. I thought they were joking. I thought it was a buddy of mine saying, the White of the President is on the line. Can you take a call? I said, Steve, what are you doing? I did a hop-up on the phone. And the President said, “I’d like you to represent me. We’re trying to get an action before the Supreme Court of the United States.”

That normally is something that would be considered the catch stone of one’s career. My daughter thought so. She took the brief we filed in the Supreme Court, my motion to intervene on behalf of the President in the Texas versus Pennsylvania case. She had it framed and gave it to me for Christmas that year. It still adorns my office at home.

But a funny thing happened on the way to the forum, as the old guy says, because apparently, in 21st-century America, you’re not supposed to challenge the status quo. You’re not supposed to challenge what government tells you. No matter how blatantly false it manifestly is. When they said masks should be worn or masks shouldn’t be worn, we’re supposed to act like they didn’t change their mind. And then it was equally the same when they said it’s okay to have 50-year-old men showing up naked in your daughter’s showers. We’re supposed to just say, Well, this is the government, they said this is okay. Or competing against your daughters in the swim meet. What’s she going to do when she grows up and wants to get a scholarship swimming or running track and she’s competing against the man? It’s not fair. It’s not American, and we need to stand up against it.

NFL player rips Biden for ‘murder of innocent babies' at college commencement speech
[Washington Examiner] Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker criticized President Joe Biden during a commencement speech at Benedictine College on Saturday.

Butker, an outspoken and devout Catholic, slammed Biden for his response to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as cultural issues such as abortion and radical gender ideology. He blasted the president as someone who supports the "murder of innocent babies" during his speech.

While addressing graduates at the Catholic liberal arts college in Atchinson, Kansas, the NFL kicker blamed Biden for what the Super Bowl champion believed was a deterioration of societal values. He began his speech by addressing the adversity this year’s graduates faced, given they were high school seniors four years ago during the COVID pandemic.

"By making it to this moment through all the adversity thrown your way from COVID, I hope you learned the important lesson that suffering in this life is only temporary," Butker said. "As a group, you witnessed firsthand how bad leaders who don’t stay in their lane can have a negative impact on society."

Workers' fury as thousands lose their jobs after Red Lobster immediately shutters more than 50
[MAIL] Red Lobster staff across the country are up in arms after the seafood restaurant shuttered more than 50 outlets across with no warning, leaving them jobless with no notice.

The chain has 'temporarily closed' locations in Buffalo, Orlando, Jacksonville and other cities, and is auctioning off kitchen equipment and furniture, according to CNN.

The brand is reportedly eyeing up a possible Chapter 11 filing to restructure its debt, allowing it to discard long-term contracts and renegotiate new leases.

But it has also left its workers in a scramble to find employment, with many Red Lobster staff claiming they were laid off with no warning.

One Tiktokker posted a stitched video that started with her talking through her day working at Red Lobster on Mother's Day, before she complained about being laid off.

If they raise the minimum wage to $100, then people will only need to work 1/4 as many hours which means employers will need to hire 4 times as many people. More money, more free time, and more jobs! Increased prosperity for everyone!

Walmart slashes hundreds of jobs and tells remote workers to get back to the office
[MAIL] Walmart is cutting hundreds of corporate jobs and is asking most of its remote workers to get back to the office, after it slashed thousands of warehouse jobs across the country.

Though remote workers will be allowed to work from home part-time, the retail monolith is also asking workers in small offices in Dallas, Atlanta and Toronto to begin working from more central hubs, as part of a move to cut costs, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Walmart's stock price wobbled slightly yesterday, peaking at 61.30 points, before falling to 60.29 points. But Walmart's stock price is close to it's all time high.

The news comes after the US' largest employer announced it would be laying off 2,000 warehouse employees who pack online orders, and would be working to have 65% of its stores automated by 2026.

'As the changes are implemented across the business, one of the outcomes is roles that require less physical labor but have a higher rate of pay,' the Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer said in a filing last year.

Army Major at the Silver Bullet Resigns Over US Support for Israel
[NEWSMAX version of Israeli Times article posted earlier by TW]

A U.S. Army officer in the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency resigned in protest of the Biden administration's support for Israel's war against Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip.

Maj. Harrison Mann announced his resignation in a two-page letter posted on his LinkedIn account, in which he wrote that the Biden administration's support for Israel "has enabled and empowered the killing and starvation of tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians."

Mann said the "unconditional support" also encourages "escalation that risks wider war."

According to his LinkedIn profile, Mann had been an executive officer and analyst with the DIA's Middle East/Africa Regional Center since August 2021 and has been with the Army since May 2011.

"It is clear that this week, some of you will still be asked to provide support — directly or indirectly — to the Israeli military as it conducts operations into Rafah and elsewhere in Gaza," Mann wrote. "I distributed this letter internally on April 16 and received an unexpected outpouring of support. I am sharing it now in the hope that you too will discover you are not alone, you are not voiceless, and you are not powerless."

Unlike the CIA, which is focused on providing intelligence to the president and his Cabinet, the DIA said on its website it is the principal source of foreign intelligence to combat-related missions.

It's unknown if other military officers have resigned in protest of the Biden administration's policy since Hamas' Oct. 7 terrorist attack in southern Israel that led to the massacre of at least 1,200 Israeli civilians and about 250 being taken hostage.

A spokeswoman for the Army was not immediately able to confirm if other officers had resigned for similar reasons since the war began, The New York Times reported Monday.

The Biden administration has come under intense domestic pressure regarding its support for Israel, with protests roiling college campuses, leading to thousands of arrests, the most active demonstrations on college campuses since the Vietnam War.

The U.S. military built a floating pier in the Mediterranean off the Gaza coast to enable more humanitarian aid to reach Palestinians, and President Joe Biden has threatened to withhold military shipments to Israel if it proceeded a military operation into the Gaza city of Rafah.

From his picture and the limited information about him from the link below, he seems to have had a rather mundane career. Commissioned as an Infantry Officer, but currently assigned as a Foreign Area Officer at DIA, he has been deployed to Tunisia, Bahrain, South Korea and Kuwait. Interestingly, since his commissioning in 2011, his picture shows the Expert Infantry Badge, a single Army Commendation Medal, and an Army Achievement Medal with two Oak leaf Clusters. In my opinion, after his 13 years of commissioned service, this does not suggest significant achievement or a good path going forward.

The cuts are to be spread out across five years "So the real Army reduction in totality is almost 4,000, and the remaining 1,000 will come from the joint force, SEALs, Marine raiders, other Army units,” said Fenton.

Sergei Poletaev: The West is deliberately leaving Ukraine outside NATO
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] When the West realizes that they no longer have a “battering ram”, the basis for long-term agreements will appear

by Mikhail Zakharov

The military situation began to change dynamically; on May 13, the group of troops of the Russian Armed Forces “North” advanced deep into the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and liberated a number of settlements in the Kharkov region. The rapid and unexpected movement forward for the enemy even put on the agenda the question of the possible liberation of Kharkov. Meanwhile, the offensive of the Russian army in the Donetsk direction continues.

However, does this mean an actual turning point in the situation at the front and how can Ukraine respond? Will Western military supplies change the situation and what are the global goals of the parties to the conflict? A Regnum correspondent spoke about this with one of the best military analysts in Russia, co-founder of the information and analytical project “Vatfor” Sergei Poletaev.

— Sergey, Russian troops are advancing in the Kharkov region and in the Donetsk direction, liberating new settlements almost every day. In turn, the law on mobilization has been tightened in Ukraine, and the United States is allocating new packages of military assistance to Kyiv. Will they be able to stop our advance in this way?
— The purpose of Western military supplies is to prevent the collapse of the front. In addition, this is a signal that Ukraine has not yet been written off.

At the same time, if we talk about our offensive, I do not expect large-scale breakthroughs. Our strategy involves a fairly slow advance, relying on artillery - we have seen this since last fall. How can Ukraine respond? I will be surprised if military supplies to Kyiv or some actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, even with the support of the West, will change the state of affairs in which the Ukrainian troops are weakening and moving back.

As for mobilization... Yes, by tightening them they are trying to recruit more “meat” to the front line. Let's see if it works. If so, it will bolster the front. But it is far from certain that it will work out, since in Ukraine those willing to fight voluntarily ended last year.

— The Verkhovna Rada in the second reading adopted a bill allowing prisoners to mobilize into the Ukrainian army. Will this help the Kyiv regime?
— I think it will slow down the retreat of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to a certain extent. But, I repeat, it will not change the general situation. The Ukrainian army will still continue to weaken.

— What do the Ukrainian authorities hope for in this case?
— Ukraine can either continue to hold out, or, according to their wording, surrender. They still refuse to give up. This means that the conditions for their surrender will become tougher.

In my opinion, this is not so much the strategy of Ukraine as the strategy of the West - Joe Biden and his administration. Last year, their global strategic plan to defeat Russia at the hands of Ukraine failed miserably. After this, they did not have any clear strategy on how to defeat Russia.

The inertia remains: to help Ukraine so that it can hold out for a year, and next year, having strengthened, it will strike and once again try to defeat Russia. But this is from the same series as promises to start a new life on Monday.

Therefore, for now, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ goal is to hold on. They are sitting on the defensive, which, in my opinion, is simply delaying the inevitable. And they hope for a miracle.

— What are the goals of the Russian troops at the front in the near future?
“I think we will continue to adhere to the strategy of pressure along the front in many places in order to achieve weakening of the enemy. Find where they are struggling, and then direct reserves there, developing success. This is called "active defense".

We have sufficient advantage and reserves to adhere to this strategy. We can achieve breakthroughs, like in Ocheretino, only on a larger scale.

At the same time, we do not yet have enough strength and means to open a second front. We don't have a second army. There is talk about a second front near Sumy or Kharkov. But I don’t expect this, at least in the spring-summer campaign of 2024.

— What will be the success of the “active defense” strategy?
— In 1918, the First World War on the Western Front ended with a hundred-day offensive by the Entente. The trench war of attrition continued, at some point the German army was so exhausted that the Germans simply could not hold the front: their troops began to roll back, crawling away like rotten tissue.

Perhaps something similar will happen now. Then it all ended with the surrender of Germany. This strategy can achieve a similar result. And I won’t say when this might happen. And no one will say, because it depends on many factors that we cannot measure. At the same time, much, of course, will depend on Western supplies and on how many new people Ukraine can gather to the front.

— Will the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to sit on the defensive? Won't they try to counterattack?
“They can expand long-range attacks on our rear.” I wouldn’t be surprised if sooner or later they will attack our “old” territories with Western weapons. While there appears to be some kind of agreement, this is not happening. But Ukrainian attacks are becoming increasingly bold. They do not carry strategic significance, but they create a picture that Ukraine is holding out, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces can still do something. For the sake of the picture, they will continue to do this.

— And as for NATO, won’t Ukraine be accepted there?
“I don’t see any chance of Ukraine joining NATO. This would mean a direct military conflict between the alliance and Russia, and NATO is not ready for that. On the contrary, they are trying in every possible way to avoid it, pushing Ukraine forward - “let’s fight.”

The West has long decided on its attitude towards Ukraine: it uses it as a tool, a large kamikaze drone, a ram aimed against Russia. At the same time, talk that NATO will send troops to Ukraine to fight the Russians arises and subsides on the same day. I don’t see any readiness to actually send troops.

In general, they have a clear understanding that Ukraine needs to be kept outside NATO, so that at any moment they can say - this is not our war.

— But French President Macron spoke several times about sending troops to Ukraine...
— We need to separate words and real actions. Although I admit that Macron’s words will be forced to materialize. He will have to do something so that he is not considered an irresponsible talker.

Let’s say they symbolically send one brigade to Ukraine, even two or three. At the same time, 400 thousand people are fighting on the front on the Ukrainian side. On our side - about 550 thousand. Sending a small number of French troops will not help compensate for the difference and will not equalize the forces at the front. To seriously influence the situation, you need to send the entire French land army - exactly 150 thousand people, along with quartermasters, headquarters, and so on.

By the way, please note that France supplied less money and weapons to Kyiv than any other major European country. Even now they are not expanding supplies, but they are talking a lot.

— At the same time, even Romania is discussing the issue of transferring the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine.
— Duty deliveries from the West are already a routine process. At the same time, the amount transmitted is constantly decreasing. Last year, weapons were given for a specific project - for a counter-offensive, which failed. And now it’s routine.

— What, in your opinion, are Russia’s goals in the conflict?
— This conflict has two levels.

I'll start with the global one. To a certain extent, this is a war for world order. Nobody planned this, it just happened. The West is trying to preserve the world order it dominates. In relation to Ukraine, this is a question of sphere of influence.

As I already said, Ukraine is a weapon, a battering ram of the West, directed against us. We need Ukraine to stop being a weapon. Our goal is some kind of big agreement with the West on dividing the sphere of influence in the European post-Soviet space, in particular in Ukraine.

Hence the goals of the special operation, formulated in the tasks of demilitarization and denazification. But the West is not yet ready to reach an agreement. Accordingly, we may have to liquidate this ram in person.

Over the past two years, Ukraine has gradually weakened. The ram is becoming weaker, which means we are getting closer to our goal. How long will the process take? As much as needs.

In many ways, the goal has already been achieved: it has become clear that the Western approach of “making the country a weapon against Russia” leads to disaster for the country. The Georgians realized this in five days in 2008.

— Does Kyiv understand this?
“I think it’s only now starting to dawn on me.” When it finally comes, when the West understands that they no longer have the battering ram, it will crumble in their hands, then the basis for longer-term agreements will appear. But the West’s task is to prevent Russia from doing this, because such an agreement would undermine the very world order in which they dominate.

#1  the United States is allocating new packages of military assistance to Kyiv

You gotta handed to geniuses in Biden admin.
First they tied military assistance to Ukraine to military assistance to Israel - to pass it through the Legislative branch. Then they blocked military assistance to Israel by executive fiat.

#2  I thought Ukraine was on the fast track, and they saw no obstacles to full NATO membership? After this happens we will finally have military conflict with Russia, and can finish them off after they've been weakened by years of war with Ukraine. Imagine no more support for Syria, African despots, no more internet trolls, the benefits are many and the drawbacks are few. Russia delenda est. We go full Gaza on them.

Yep. Republicans have formally submitted articles of impeachment for Biden for this as well. Isn't going to go anywhere as the rest of the 'Pubs are too cowardly to push it through.

Current information on the situation on the front line: May 13 (updated)
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[NewsFront] 23:59 Official summary of the DPR Representative Office in the JCCC from 00:00 05/13/2024 to 00:00 05/14/2024

A total of 31 cases of armed attacks by the UFU were recorded by the DPR Representative Office in the JCCC over the past 24 hours.

Information was received about the death of three civilians, and one civilian was also injured. Four employees of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations were injured.

DAMAGED:
Three cars,
Nine residential buildings, fire tanker.

Seven artillery attacks in the Donetsk direction.

A total of 23 attacks in the Gorlovka direction.

One artillery attack in the Volnovakha direction.

A total of 105 units of various ammunition were fired.

22:41 Khar'kov direction: Volchansk.

The enemy confirms for the evening that the situation is getting worse for him hourly. The enemy reports that our army brought in some reserves in this direction, which promised our soldiers success in their advance.

The enemy admits in the evening that he no longer controls the entire city, but only part of Volchansk. The situation for the enemy is becoming critical!

21:35 Hit cluster munitions against Ukrainian kamikaze UAVs and vehicles with operators preparing to launch in the area of ??the village of Mylovoe in the Kherson direction.

20:24 Around 19.30 suppressed a number of attempts by the Kyiv regime to carry out terrorist attacks on the territory of the Russian Federation using anti-radar missiles, guided bombs and an aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicle.

On duty air defense systems destroyed two anti-radar missiles, six guided aerial bombs and one UAV over the territory of the Belgorod region.

19:51 Zones of advance and control of front sectors –map.

The situation northwest of Donetsk: our units have established complete control over the center of Netailovo, knocking out the enemy from the outskirts of the village.

From Khar'kov, Russian fighters established full control over the village of Glubokoe and increased pressure on Lukyantsy from the north-west.

Russian troops took control of the northern outskirts of Volchansk, continuing to gain a foothold and expand the line of control.

18:45 Khar'kovskoe direction.

The situation is becoming more and more tense due to the enemy’s reserves being brought up in significant quantities. This gives us a trump card in other operational directions, since the entire defense line of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is now subject to massive local attacks. This includes the Donetsk direction, the Zaporozhye direction, the Bakhmut direction, and a number of others.

In Volchansk, assault operations continue. The main attacks on the enemy are delivered from the north, but they also seriously constrain the enemy from the flanks. A huge number of Ukrainian Armed Forces l/s who left their positions and pulled into the city + enemy reserves = a whole platoon holding a one-story house.

Therefore, we are not moving as fast as we would like. And we roll back to our previous positions after the streets were taken and the enemy’s sharp counter-actions using large forces.

In Liptsy, assault operations were carried out on the outskirts and in forest plantations near the settlement. The same as in Volchansk. It is difficult with a huge number of mortars and artillery, which works in one square of the main deployments for the subsequent actions of our troops.

We are fighting not only in these populated areas, but also in forest plantations into which the enemy has retreated and managed to strengthen. It is in an open field that everything is not so fast due to the mining that was carried out earlier. There are roads, and they are used beyond the norm.

18:27 Telegram channel “Fisherman":

Slobozhansk direction: the Russian Armed Forces occupied a third of Volchansk.

The Russian Armed Forces are developing an offensive in the north of the Khar'kov region: the first confirmation of a successful advance in Volchansk has appeared.

The territory of Volchansk north of the Volchya River dividing the city and east of Sobornaya Street almost completely came under the control of Russian forces. Yes, a focal enemy presence may remain, but the defenses in the northern part of the city have been broken.

Already in the middle of the day, fighting took place in the area of ??Korolenko and Gogol streets, and the territory of the Central Park and the multi-story residential area east of the lyceum were blocked and partially came under the control of the Russian Armed Forces.

On the western outskirts of Volchansk, the presence of the enemy remains (including the Russians from the RDK).

But after the destruction of the bridge across the Volchya River on Privokzalnaya and Gagarin streets, the enemy has only two bridges left - a pedestrian bridge in the area of the Volchanskaya Central Regional Hospital on Shevchenko Street and a car bridge on Sobornaya Street (Route T-21-08).

Another road bridge (Gurkanovsky), located to the east near the Volchansky Aggregate Plant, if it has not completely come under the control of the Russian army by this hour, is at least under the fire control of the RF Armed Forces.

Nothing is yet known about attempts to storm the Volchansky Aggregate Plant, but it is possible that the enemy may try to rely on the plant in order to maintain a bridgehead in the northern part of the city. Two more defense centers are the Volchansky Lyceum No. 1 and the hospital complex, where, according to preliminary data, the heaviest fighting is taking place.

In other areas of the offensive in the north of the Khar'kov region, the advance is not as large-scale.

Footage has emerged from Glubokoye, which was liberated two days ago: on the eastern outskirts of the village the flag of the Russian Federation is flying. The fighting in the Lira-1 gardening community on the eastern bank of the Travensky reservoir continues, after the capture of SNT it will be possible to talk about the beginning of the assault on Liptsy.

To the south of Morokhovets and Oleynikov, as well as to the north of Lukyantsy, the activity of drones of Ukrainian formations and the movements of small groups of Russian infantry are recorded. Apparently, the enemy retains control over Lukyantsy, and reinforcements continue to be transferred to Liptsy from both the “hodgepodge” of territorial defense and the Main Intelligence Directorate units.

Near Staritsa and Bugrovatka, the Russian Armed Forces are clearing villages; it is too early to talk about taking settlements.

In the near future, we can expect the completion of the cleansing of northern Volchansk: the tactics of the Russian troops to cut off all communications, well-functioning reconnaissance and fire damage as part of the reconnaissance and strike contour are bearing fruit. Against the backdrop of the ongoing scandal in the so-called Ukraine and attempts to shift responsibility onto each other for the collapse of the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, we see how the Russian army is taking the line that the Russian Armed Forces should have at least somehow delayed.

But you shouldn’t be filled with jingoism: the Russian Armed Forces are doing hard work, trying to overcome the enemy’s fortified areas. The Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to actively use FPV drones and copters with drops, which cause significant damage to advancing units.

17:28 Air defense systems shot down 16 Vampire MLRS rounds over the Belgorod region, reportedto the Ministry of Defense.

16:37 Statements by representatives of the North, West, South, Center, East and Dnepr groups on the progress of the special military operation (as of May 13, 2024) -video.

16:11 Avdeevskoe direction.

Russian fighters launched an offensive west of Semenovka with the aim of taking control of the borders located between Novopokrovsky and Umansky.

15:44 The entire settlement of Glubokoe released by the Russian army. Our advanced groups have already moved towards the outskirts of Liptsa. The assault is underway.

14:57 Special military operation. Situation on May 13 –map.

14:25 Our assaults have gained a foothold in the area of the Volchansk meat processing plant. There are street battles going on.

12:55 Around 12.00 Moscow time suppressed an attempt by the Kyiv regime to carry out a terrorist attack using aircraft-type UAVs against targets on the territory of the Russian Federation.

On duty air defense systems destroyed a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle over the territory of the Belgorod region.

12:11 During last night suppressed further attempts by the Kyiv regime to carry out terrorist attacks using aircraft-type UAVs, Vilkha multiple launch rocket systems and Storm Shadow aircraft guided missiles against targets on the territory of the Russian Federation.

On duty air defense systems destroyed twelve Ol'kha MLRS rockets and twelve UAVs over the territory of the Belgorod region, eight UAVs over the territory of the Kursk region, four Storm Shadow aircraft guided missiles and seven UAVs over the territory of the Republic of Crimea, another four UAVs were intercepted over the territory Lipetsk region.

11:31 Situation on the front line –map.

Russian fighters established full control over the village of Zelenoe and reached the outskirts of Glubokoye and Lukyantsy. From Chuguev, Russian troops continue to expand control over the hills overlooking the Volchya Valley and entered the first buildings of Volchansk, where they established a foothold in the meat-packing plant square. The enemy is intensively gathering reserves of infantry and equipment in an attempt to hold this settlement.

Situation southwest of Donetsk: Russian units have advanced north of Vladimirovka, taking control of several oporniks around a kaolin quarry.

10:44 Telegram channel "Fisherman":

Slobozhansk direction: battles in Volchansk and knocking out the reserves of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On the morning of the fourth day of the Russian army’s offensive in the north of the Khar'kov region, no large-scale breakthroughs of enemy defenses were recorded. Having cleared the “gray” border zone, Russian assault units focused on breaking into strongholds and defensive lines of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as knocking out reserves.

By the evening of May 12, the Russian army took a meat processing plant in the north of Volchansk and was clearing a shoe factory: these are two main buildings on the northern tip of the city, from where the Ukrainian Armed Forces controlled the approaches. Forest belts and fields from the north have been completely cleared and have come under the control of Russian troops

The zones east of the city are covered in the fog of war: an offensive is underway from the Quiet side, but the scale of the advance cannot yet be clarified.

But judging by the strikes of Ukrainian artillery stationed in Rubezhnoe and Pechenegy, Russian groups managed to advance to the city center. However, there is no surrender of Volchansk: units of the 57th Infantry Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces arrived on the southern outskirts of Volchansk and in Bely Kolodez, located 12 km to the southeast.

At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are trying to solve the problem with logistics and establish supplies across the Seversky Donets River: in the vicinity of Stary Saltov, attempts are being made to build a pontoon crossing.

There have been no changes in the Glubokoye-Oleynikovo-northern outskirts of the village of Lukyantsy-Zelyonoe: Russian troops are still knocking out suitable reserves. The arrival of assault units from the Poltava region is noted in the Khar'kov region, which should strengthen the defensive capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this area.

Fighting on the Izbitskoye - Staritsa - Bugrovatka line continues, but we cannot yet confirm the capture of settlements.

A scandal is breaking out in the Ukrainian media field in connection with territorial losses: the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kirill Budanov, placed the blame on the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky. The public squabble is intended to divert attention from problems at the front and “entertain” the population, while the Ukrainian command is frantically trying to solve the problem of the northern front bursting at the seams.

10:18 Avdeevskoe direction. District settlement Umanskoe.

This night our tactical aviation applied a series of attacks on the northern sections of the village of Umanskoye, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces hid their equipment. There are targets hit, recorded by aerial reconnaissance.

Our aircraft used UFABs and air-to-ground missiles.

09:57 Criminal Kyiv regime continues to fire at the civilian infrastructure of settlements on the left bank of the Kherson region, yesterday during the day the Ukrainian Armed Forces fired from cannon artillery:

-- n.p. Alyosha four rounds;

-- n.p. Kakhovka four rounds;

-- n.p. Skadovsk three missiles;

-- n.p. Novaya Kakhovka five rounds;

-- n.p. Peschanivka two rounds.

During the night, the Kiev regime continued to shell civilian infrastructure in the village. Kazachi Lagery, n.p. Dnepryany, n.p. Kakhovka, n.p. Novaya Kakhovka, firing a total of 19 rounds from cannon artillery.

As a result of a missile attack on the village. Skadovsk car service station was destroyed, part of the city was left without electricity and water.

FSB detains a Primorsky resident on suspicion of espionage for Ukraine
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] A resident of Vladivostok was detained on suspicion of working for Ukrainian military intelligence. A criminal case has been opened. The details were told to journalists in the regional department of the FSB of Russia.

According to security officials, the man is suspected of committing high treason in the form of espionage in the interests of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Ukrainian nationalist organization controlled by him, recognized as terrorist in Russia.

It was established that the 48-year-old Primorsky resident, on instructions from the Ukrainian special services, collected and transmitted information about the military infrastructure of the region. At the same time, he was fully aware that this data could be used against the security of Russia, the FSB explained.

The detainee was taken into custody.

During the investigation, he repented, asked for forgiveness for espionage and expressed his readiness to cooperate.

This is the third case in recent times in Primorye when security forces suppress the activities of state traitors.

As Regnum reported, on April 30, a resident of the Primorsky Territory was detained who established contact on a confidential basis with a representative of a Ukrainian nationalist organization recognized as terrorist in Russia, controlled by the GUR.

On May 2, FSB officers detained a resident of Primorye suspected of espionage and transmitting information to Ukrainian military intelligence.

On April 23, the Eastern District Military Court in Kemerovo sentenced a 37-year-old local resident to nine years in prison for treason and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization. The man was also sentenced to a fine of 500 thousand rubles to serve the first two years in prison.

to help him try to make the case for the 81-year-old’s re-election bid.

Former President Barack Obama
My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it...
, Biden’s old boss, also will be a featured guest as well as "other top surrogates and supporters," a Biden campaign official told The Post.

In addition to their fundraiser appearance, Clooney, 63, and Roberts, 56, will be participating in a "contest" as part of the campaign, which will be blasted out on "social media, digital advertisements, and emails and text messages" to engage grassroots donors, according to the Biden re-election official.

Ukrainian authorities announce evacuation in two cities of the Sumy region
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The Ukrainian authorities announced the start of evacuation measures in the Belopol and Vorozhbyansk communities in the Sumy region due to the worsening situation at the front. The head of the regional military administration, Vladimir Artyukh, announced this on May 13.

“Residents of Belopolye and Vorozhba, especially families with children, who want to evacuate, should contact the village elders and community leaders,” he wrote on his page on the social network Facebook (owned by Meta, a banned and recognized extremist organization in Russia).

Artyukh added that in accordance with the signed order, the evacuated residents will be placed in places of compact residence in the Sumy region.

As Regnum reported, on May 12, the head of the Kiev-controlled Kharkov regional military administration, Oleg Sinegubov, reported that more than 4 thousand people were evacuated from the Chuguevsky, Kharkovsky and Bogodukhovsky districts. Prior to this, the population was evacuated in the Volchansk, Tsirkunovsk and Lipetsk communities of the Kharkov region.

This happened against the background of the offensive of the Russian Armed Forces in the Kharkov direction. On May 11, official representative of the Ministry of Defense Igor Konashenkov announced the liberation by the Russian military of Borisovka, Ogurtsovo, Pletenevka, Pylnaya and Strelechya in the Kharkov region. The next day, the Russian Armed Forces advanced deeper into the Ukrainian defense, liberating the settlements of Gatishche, Krasnoye, Morokhovets and Oleynikovo.

Libyan customs officers arrested over huge gold shipment worth 1.8 billion euros
[NEWARAB] Libyan authorities have arrested several customs officials for attempting to traffic abroad about 26 tonnes of gold worth almost 1.8 billion euros ($1.9 billion), prosecutors said.
Bits and pieces all over the place.
The Libyan prosecutor's office did not detail the suspected origin of the massive amount of precious metal, greater than the national gold reserves of many countries.

Authorities in Misrata, western Libya, made the arrests related to the trafficking operation at the port city's international airport, the office said Sunday night.

"The investigating authorities ordered the arrest of the director general of customs and customs officials at the international airport of Misrata," it said in a statement released on Facebook.

The officials had attempted in December 2023 to traffic the gold bars weighing some 25,875 kilograms, currently worth almost 1.8 billion euros, the statement said.

Khartoum curfew imposed amid security concerns
[SUDANTRIBUNE] The Acting Governor of Khartoum State, Ahmed Osman Hamza, issued an emergency order on Monday imposing a curfew across the state.

The curfew restricts the movement of people and vehicles from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM and bans all commercial activities and pedestrian movement from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...

The order cites security concerns as justification for protecting citizens.

ese cities. They argue that the current measures are insufficient to address the wartime threats facing the country, and are calling for a more robust security approach.

Law enforcement can seize vehicles and arrest individuals suspected of violating the curfew, with searches of suspected premises authorized. Violators face penalties of up to six months in prison or a fine, with doubled penalties for repeat offences.

This curfew follows the state of emergency declared by Acting Governor Hamza on May 2nd. The state of emergency established a security cell and addressed concerns related to foreign nationals. Military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan approved the state of emergency.

Pakistan, US stress cooperation in tackling terror outfits including TTP, Daesh
[GEO.TV] Pakistain and the United States have underscored the importance of bilateral cooperation in addressing the most pressing challenges to regional and global security, including the Tehrik-e-Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
Pakistain (TTP) and ISIS.

According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office on Monday, Additional Foreign Secretary for the UN and OIC, Ambassador Syed Haider Shah, and US Department of State Coordinator for Counterterrorism, Ambassador Elizabeth Richard, co-chaired the Pakistain-US Counterterrorism Dialogue on May 10 in Washington.

Discussions centred on the counterterrorism landscape in the region, with a focus on areas of mutual interest.

Pak and US bigwigs emphasised the importance of expanded counterterrorism collaboration and capacity building, including exchanges of technical expertise and best practices, investigative and prosecutorial assistance, provision of border security infrastructure and training, including the United States training of more than 300 police and frontline responders since the last Pakistain-US Counterterrorism Dialogue in March 2023, and strengthening multilateral engagement such as in the UN and the Global Counterterrorism Forum, the statement added.

It said Pakistain and the United States recognised that a partnership to counter the ISIS-Khorasan — also known as ISIS — the TTP, and other terrorist organizations will advance security in the region and serve as a model of bilateral and regional cooperation to address transnational terrorism threats.

Both governments resolved to increase communication on these topics and continue collaboration to detect and deter violent mostly peaceful extremism through whole-of-government approaches.

"The Counterterrorism Dialogue reaffirms Pakistain’s and the United States’ shared determination to contribute to both regional and global security and stability."

Kuwait forms new government headed by Ahmad Abdullah Al-Sabah
[NEWARAB] Kuwait formed a new cabinet headed by Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah al-Sabah, according to a royal decree issued Sunday.

Emad al al-Atiqi, Anwar Ali al-Mudhaf and Abdullah Ali al-Yahya retained their posts as oil, finance and foreign ministers respectively, according to the decree from the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Mishal al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.

Sheikh Ahmad is the emir's nephew and was previously appointed prime minister in April.

"The Prime Minister and the ministers must implement this decree," stated Sheikh Mishal in the decree.

The new government comes shortly after the emir dissolved parliament indefinitely on Friday, after a prolonged period of bickering between the government and the elected parliament.

The emir also suspended some articles of the constitution, including those stating that a new parliament must be elected within two months of a dissolution and that laws must be approved by the parliament and the emir.

The powers of the National Assembly would be assumed by the emir and the country's cabinet, state TV reported at the time.

The changes give Emir al-Sabah full control over new legislation.

The articles would be suspended for a period not exceeding four years, during which all aspects of the democratic process would be studied, according to the Emir's order on Friday.

The threat of Somali piracy on the rise, EU warns
[SHABELLEMEDIA] A report on the threat of piracy off the coast of Somalia from the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
’s ATALANTA mission said that there has been an increase in incidents that could increase the risk of piracy in Somalia waters.

The European Union has said that pirates have started hijacking speedboats, to use them to carry out attacks from areas 600 nm off the coast of Somalia.

"Although there have been no incidents of piracy in the past seven days, the payment of a ransom could create a new wave of hijackings," EU NAVFOR ATALANTA said.

The ATALANTA mission said that it is estimated that at least two pirate groups may be sailing off the coast of Somalia, preparing to attack fat merchantmen.

European navies have said that piracy attacks are possible and can always happen. They said it is important that ships operating in the Western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden, especially those within 700nm of Somalia’s coast, comply with security recommendations.

In March of this year, a ship belonging to Bangladesh was taken for a ransom of 5 million dollars, which is the first ransom paid to Somali pirates in decades.

[Page Six] Grifters will as grifters do. But hey? She's already declared Nigerian genes
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s charity foundation has been declared delinquent and ordered to stop raising or spending money, Page Six can reveal.

The royal duo have let the official registration fees for their charity, Archewell, lapse since at least the beginning of May, according to an official letter from California’s attorney general, Rob Bonta.

The document states that Archewell has been listed as “delinquent” with the registry of charities and fundraisers for failing to submit its annual report and its registration fees.

Archewell now has to submit records to show why its payment is late, and pay late fees.

Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Rosfinmonitoring added journalist Nadezhda Kevorkova to the register of terrorists and extremists. Her data appeared on the website of the Federal Service for Financial Monitoring on May 13.

"6450. Kevorkova Nadezhda Vitalievna, born October 21, 1958, Moscow,” is indicated in the list.

As Regnum reported, on May 6, the Investigative Committee charged Kevorkova with justifying terrorism due to a post in the Telegram channel from 2021 about the Taliban movement (a terrorist organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation) and a repost of the text of her friend Orhan Dzhemal. He published a text about the attack in Nalchik back in 2010; after his murder, Kevorkova posted this text on her site.

The journalist was detained. Earlier, her apartment was searched. According to a source in the Izvestia newspaper, Nadezhda Kevorkova shares radical Islamic ideology and published materials justifying the activities of terrorists. According to the publication, the journalist was on friendly terms with terrorists, including the coordinator and founder of radical Islamic foundations, Israil Akhmednabiev, known as Abu Umar Sasitlinsky (listed by Rosfinmonitoring as terrorists and extremists), and other persons associated with the activities of terrorist organizations.

Protests against Saudi occupation continue in Aden
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Angry popular protests broke out on Sunday evening against the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition and the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in various areas of the city of Aden in southern Yemen

Angry protesters blocked the main streets in al-Mansoura area with burning tires and stones to protest the collapse of electricity services and the rise in prices due to the deterioration of the local currency, after the dollar exchange reached 1,700 riyals.

The demonstrators rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud demanding the departure of the coalition and its tools in reference to the "Presidential Leadership Council" and the STC from the city and all southern regions.

The participants in the angry demonstration denounced the increase in power outage hours to more than eight hours, considering the pro-coalition government’s presence to be "a disaster and a disgrace" to the people of Aden.

People in Sheikh Othman and Khor Maksar areas also erupted into the streets protesting against corruption, expressing discontent, and demanding the removal of corrupt officials.

In Jabalia, tanks were trying to advance towards the heart of the camp, the biggest of Gaza's eight historic refugee camps, amid fierce festivities with Paleostinian groups.

Residents said tank shells were landing at the centre of the camp and that air strikes had destroyed clusters of houses.

An al-Jazeera correspondent said that Israeli forces had heavily fired on civilian shelters in the camp, forcing hundreds of civilians to flee. They also fired on ambulances which tried to move into the camp.

Residents and medics said several people were killed and maimed in a series of air strikes on the camp overnight. Medics said they have been unable to send teams to some of the bombed areas because of the intensity of the Israeli bombardment but they have reports of fatalities.

Tribune has uncovered evidence suggesting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been executing civilians by hanging inside secret execution chambers across the capital, Khartoum.

The ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF has already witnessed countless civilian casualties. However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
the investigation reveals a new level of brutality — executions by hanging inside private residences across the capital.

Sudan Tribune obtained a video clip depicting professionally constructed gallows set up inside a house in Omdurman’s Wad al-Basir area. Additionally, a guillotine was discovered installed within the same building.

EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS
Residents recently returned to areas previously controlled by the RSF have provided chilling accounts. They described an execution chamber in an apartment located on Wad al-Basir Street, a location reclaimed by the army in February.

Video clips of executions and ethnic cleansing committed by the fighting forces in Sudan are circulating on social media. These videos show cold-blooded executions of civilians in various regions, as confirmed by international reports and human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
organizations.

Activists told Sudan Tribune about the existence of at least 14 secret execution chambers established by the RSF in Khartoum, Bahri, and Omdurman. These facilities are allegedly overseen by officers who act as judges, issuing death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...
s for civilians accused of collaborating with the army intelligence.

An activist in Khartoum Bahri documented the presence of six RSF execution rooms in a house on al-Inqaz Street, facing the Weta Factory. There are also two rooms in the Shambat al-Aradi neighbourhood, another in the al-Safia neighbourhood, and two rooms near the Parachute Regiment camp in the Hijra neighbourhood.

GUILLOTINE OF DEATH
Activists and residents in Omdurman, including those living on Wad al-Basir Street in the Wad Nubawi neighbourhood, confirmed the existence of an execution chamber used by the RSF. One resident described the setup: a steel beam near the ceiling, a steel stand in the middle, a strong rope attached to it, and a deep hole dug into the floor.

In the Umbada area, residents confirmed the existence of two execution rooms. Steel legs were found inside two houses, along with the remains of people who had been hanged. It was unclear whether the victims were soldiers or civilians.

The RSF has executed dozens of people by hanging in four neighbourhoods in Khartoum. Residents in al-Kalakla, south of Khartoum, confirmed executions in the al-Kalakla al-Qubba, al-Safa, and al-Kalakla al-Munawara neighbourhoods.

A resident of the al-Sajana neighbourhood mentioned in a telephone interview with Sudan Tribune that there are execution and torture rooms inside houses near the El-Alamein Sports Club. He confirmed that six people were executed there at varying intervals.

He also mentioned an execution guillotine set up on a tree inside one of the houses, visible from the outside. RSF Soldiers modified it multiple times and executed people at night.

He added that the bodies were transported to an unknown location, with soldiers dragging the bodies away before returning to the same house.

Despite the conflict entering its second year (since April 2023), the RSF retains control of Khartoum city, while the Sudanese army has recaptured Omdurman and significant portions of Khartoum Bahri.

#1  History repeats. When Bashir and the Army took over the Sudan in 1989 they opened 'Ghost Houses' where enemies of the Islamist state were tortured and executed. It seems that for Sudanese life is not sacred; it is held in contempt.

According to him, the executive branch is currently analyzing such a possible step. And although “Estonia would prefer to act in this way within the framework of the full NATO mission,” he did not rule out the possibility that Tallinn would act as part of a smaller coalition. "Discussions are ongoing. We must consider all possibilities. We must not limit ourselves in what we can do," Roll stressed.

20:27 Shoigu will be the curator of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, but not its immediate leader, Peskov said.

20:01 Counterstrike actions of the Defense Forces continue in the Khar'kov region, the direction has been strengthened, in particular Volchansk and border areas, Zelensky said in an evening video message. According to him, Brigadier General Mikhail Drapaty is responsible for this area right on the spot.

“Now our results are becoming more and more visible - we are destroying the occupier’s infantry and equipment. At the same time, we understand how the enemy operates, and we see a plan to draw back our forces. Of course, we do not leave the Donetsk directions without the necessary support and support, namely Kramatorsk direction, Pokrovskoye. Constant attention to the Kupyansk direction. We are also recording enemy activity against the Sumy and Chernihiv regions - sabotage groups, shelling. Our task is absolutely clear - to disrupt the Russian attempt to expand the war," the president noted.

19:38 Another IRIS-T air defense system from Germany will arrive in Ukraine in May, said German Ambassador Martin Jäger. “In addition, we promised Ukraine that we will supply more such systems this year, next and in 2026. That is, we are consistently working on expanding air defense,” he added.

This post has been held by Nikolai Patrushev since 2008 - his new position in the Kremlin was promised to be announced in the next few days. About what such large-scale changes in the military bloc of the aggressor mean, see the article Replacement of Shoigu.

18:29 Units of the Defense Forces have pushed back the Russian army and are conducting a clean-up operation on the northern outskirts of Volchansk, Kharkov region, the General Staff reported. As of 17:00, fighting continues in the Kharkov direction, the number of military clashes has increased to 12. A military clash also began in the area of the village of Staritsa.

In the Limansky direction the number of military clashes increased to seven, in the Seversky direction - to 14, in Kramatorsk - to 31, in Pokrovsky - to 31. 17:35 Russian military attacked a farm in Korotichi, Khar'kov region - one person was killed, three were wounded, said Oleg Sinegubov, head of the OVA. Another person was injured as a result of an enemy attack on Liptsy.

Sinegubov also said that today a decision was made on the forced evacuation of orphans and children deprived of parental care. We are talking about 113 children from the border communities of Bogodukhovsky, Kupyansky and Izyumsky districts. Only nine children with their guardians from the Volchansk community left of their own free will.

17:14 Due to constant shelling, Volchansk is turning into Bakhmut or Maryinka, said Vladimir Timoshko, chief of police of the Kharkov region. According to him, the Russians use a large number of guided bombs to attack the city: “This is a bomb weighing 250, or even 500 kg, which can demolish a multi-story building. In a sense, Volchansk is turning into Bakhmut or Marinka.”

17:03 The Russians fired at the village of Kizomys, Belozersk community, Kherson region - as a result of a hit on a residential building, two people were killed, said the head of the OVA, Alexander Prokudin.

16:26 In the Khar'kov direction, as of 14:00, the enemy carried out 11 attacks, two military clashes continue, the General Staff reported. The Russian Army is trying to oust units of the Defense Forces from their positions, and had partial success in the area of the village of Lukyantsy. The enemy's advance has been stopped and the Defense Forces are counterattacking. To strengthen the troops, pre-created reserves have been moved to the Khar'kov direction; depending on the development of the situation, the build-up of the group will continue. The troops are provided with the necessary weapons, the General Staff assured.

In the Kupyansk direction, 19 military clashes took place in the areas of Sinkovka, Ivanovka, Berestovo, Stelmakhovka, Novoigorevka, Makeevka. The enemy did not conduct offensive operations in the Toretsk direction. There were 24 military clashes in the Pokrovsky direction; on Kurakhovsky - five military clashes in the areas of Krasnogorovka and Novomikhailovka. In the Vremevsky direction, the Defense Forces repelled attacks in the Vodyanoy, Urozhaynoy, Staromayorsky districts of the Donetsk region. The enemy did not conduct offensive operations in the Gulyai-Polye direction. In the Orekhovsky direction, eight military clashes took place in the Staromayorsky area, one clash continues in the Rabotino area. In the Dnieper direction, two military clashes took place in the area of the village of Krynki, one continues.

15:27 In the Volchansk community of the Khar'kov region, the Russian military has been forcibly holding local residents in the basement since May 11. As the prosecutor's office reported, citing eyewitnesses, on May 13, some of them managed to escape and get to the volunteers; now the people are safe. The victims said that while they were in the basement, they heard Russian servicemen talking about how the civilian population should be shot. People were also forced to provide medical assistance to Russians.

15:18 Spain is preparing a new package of military assistance to Ukraine, including Leopard 2, writes El País. According to the newspaper, preparation of the package can be completed before June 30. It will include, in particular, the first ten battle tanks from a batch of 19 restored Leopard 2 A4; large caliber artillery ammunition; light and heavy machine guns; anti-tank weapons and field artillery shells; armored infantry vehicles, etc.

15:14 As a result of the Ukrainian strike on the occupied Sorokino, Lugansk region, a strong fire started, said the leader of the “LPR” Leonid Pasechnik. According to him, the strike was allegedly carried out on an “industrial zone”; three people were killed and four injured.

15:09 Early in the morning of May 13, Ukraine attacked a Russian military air defense base on Mount Ai-Petri in Crimea, reports the opposition Russian publication Astra. According to the publication's sources in the emergency services of the annexed region, military unit 85683 was attacked by several missiles (presumably Storm Shadow). On Mount Ai-Petri there is a “secret” military air defense base of the 3rd radio technical regiment of the Russian Armed Forces. As a result of the strike, the territory of the military unit was damaged, the commander of military unit 85683, Alexander Kulakov, and another serviceman were killed. There are also wounded, their number is being determined.

15:03 Zelensky said that he had telephone conversations with the Prime Ministers of Sweden and Luxembourg Ulf Kristersson and Luke Frieden - they discussed defense assistance for Ukraine, the urgent needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, especially in air defense systems.

14:50 The house in Belgorod, where 15 people died, was most likely hit by Russian ammunition, not Ukrainian, according to Conflict Intelligence Team analysts. They note that the attack on the house came from the northeast, so it could have been an anti-aircraft guided missile from a Russian air defense system or an emergency convergence of the FAB. “The version that a missile from the Ukrainian Tochka-U could change its trajectory under the influence of an air defense missile in such a way as to strike from this side of the building seems unlikely to us,” noted investigator Ruslan Leviev.

14:36 The Russians launched a massive strike with cluster munitions on the Snovskaya community of the Chernihiv region - according to preliminary information, three people were wounded. Houses, cars, and civil infrastructure were damaged, said the head of the OVA, Vyacheslav Chaus.

14:15 Russian troops in the Khar'kov region are trying to stretch the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said the head of the OVA Oleg Sinegubov: “Recently, about 15 enemy attacks have been repelled. The situation is quite difficult, but absolutely all enemy attacks are repulsed. There is an increase in the gray zone, an increase in the front line, because that the enemy is trying to deliberately stretch them, attacking in small groups in new directions.”

13:33 The SBU reported that it prevented four terrorist attacks in Kiev, which were supposed to take place on May 9. Agents of the Russian GRU, who installed explosive devices in construction hypermarkets of a well-known chain and near one of the cafes, were caught red-handed. According to the Russian intelligence service, the explosives were supposed to detonate during peak traffic hours. In this way, the GRU wanted to destabilize the situation in Ukraine, and also send a signal on the symbolic day for them, May 9, about the alleged presence of a Russian underground in Kyiv, the SBU reported. The security service established the entire chain of this network, including intelligence and combat groups, smugglers who delivered explosives from the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as the direct perpetrators of the terrorist attack. Those detained face life imprisonment.

13:18 In March, April and May alone, the Russian Aerospace Forces dropped at least 32 FABs on Russian and occupied Ukrainian regions, the opposition Russian publication Astra calculated. Thus, on May 10, the Russian Aerospace Forces dropped four FABs on the Belgorod region.

12:41 Mikhail Drapaty was appointed commander of the operational-tactical group of troops in Khar'kov instead of Yuri Galushkin, RBC-Ukraine was informed in the operational-strategic group of troops Khortytsia. At the same time, Drapaty also remains in the position of Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

12:19 Soldiers of the 47th separate mechanized brigade reported that they shot down a Russian Ka-52 Alligator helicopter.

12:16 Lavrov once again stated that Moscow is “ready for negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, but taking into account the current reality.” At the same time, Switzerland, according to him, “is no longer suitable” as a venue for negotiations. At the same time, Lavrov added that “if the West wants to fight on the battlefield in the situation around Ukraine, then Moscow is ready for this.”

11:48 The Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked a Russian military ammunition warehouse in the occupied Sorokino, Luhansk region. Local public pages write about a powerful detonation.

11:37 At night, SBU drones attacked the Oskolneftesnab oil depot near the village of Stary Oskol in the Belgorod region and the Eletskaya substation with a capacity of 500 kV in the Lipetsk region, Ukrainian media write, citing sources. The Eletskaya substation supplies traction substations of Russian Railways, the Stanovaya oil pumping station and provides transit between the Lipetsk, Oryol and Bryansk energy systems.

11:09 The Russians fired artillery at the civilian infrastructure of the Krasnopolsky community of the Sumy region - one person was killed, two were wounded, the prosecutor's office reported.

11:04 Against the backdrop of the offensive of Russian troops in the Khar'kov region, representatives of local authorities are accused of not building enough fortifications. The deputy head of the Khar'kov Regional Military District, Roman Semenukha, in response called for not spreading “disinformation” - according to him, the Defense Forces are now occupying fortifications built by the regional administration. And the head of the city military administration of Volchansk, Tamaz Gambarashvili, claims that there were fortifications around the city, but “perhaps not so dense,” since Volchansk, after de-occupation, has been under constant shelling for a year and a half.

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council, Andrei Kovalenko, said that the construction of defensive lines on the border of the Khar'kov region is impossible: “It would be impossible to build defensive lines directly on the border strip with the enemy. Because all the equipment and all the engineers would simply be destroyed by the enemy - his drones, his artillery." At the same time, he assured that there are defense lines in the Khar'kov region. “And they will tell you more about them very soon. And these are several lines of defense, very reliable. Therefore, friends, let’s not confuse the border region and Khar'kov. The defense operation continues,” Kovalenko added.

10:46 The Wall Street Journal estimates that Ukraine has become much less likely to shoot down Russian missiles. Thus, the kill rate over the past six months has fallen to 46% compared to 73% in the previous six months. And in April this figure dropped to 30%. At the same time, the figure for drones remained almost unchanged and remained at 80%. Analysts attribute this to the fact that the Russian Federation has stepped up attacks with drones and missiles, especially ballistic ones, while Kyiv is running out of ammunition for Patriot systems. Over the past six months, the Russian Federation has fired approximately 45% more suicide bombs and missiles than in the previous six months.

10:38 Astrakhan deputy Denis Kharitonov reported that his car was blown up in the occupied territory of Ukraine, “in the Northwestern Military District zone.” He was in the car at the time of the explosion, but was not injured.

10:34 Zelensky will visit Madrid in the coming days, where he will sign a bilateral security agreement with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, writes El País.

09:58 In the Donetsk region over the past 24 hours, two people were killed as a result of Russian shelling - in Dubrovo and Ivanovka. Two more people in the region were injured over the past 24 hours, said the head of the OVA, Vadim Filashkin.

09:25 The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believes that the Russian offensive on Volchansk is largely a consequence of the West's tacit policy that Ukrainian forces cannot use Western-provided systems to strike legitimate military targets on Russian territory. According to analysts, permission from Great Britain to use their weapons to strike the Russian Federation is not enough.

ISW also suggests that the nomination of Andrei Belousov as a candidate for the position of the new Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation is associated with a high level of corruption in the Russian Defense Ministry and indicates preparation for a protracted war with Ukraine. Experts recalled that Belousov served as Minister of Economy for about ten years, and during this time he participated in the management of various innovative projects in the field of the defense industrial complex and drones. Belousov has a reputation as an efficient technocrat, and insider sources say he has a good relationship with Putin.

09:16 The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that during the night, air defense systems allegedly destroyed 12 Vilkha MLRS rockets and 12 UAVs over the territory of the Belgorod region, eight UAVs over the territory of the Kursk region, four Storm Shadow missiles and seven UAVs over the territory of Crimea, four more UAVs were intercepted over the territory of the Lipetsk region. Meanwhile, the governor of the Lipetsk region, Igor Artamonov, reported a fire at an electrical substation as a result of a UAV attack. According to him, the drones were allegedly suppressed in the territory of the Stanovlyansky district, there were no casualties.

08:53 On May 12, as a result of a series of massive shelling of the city of Volchansk, Khar'kov region, seven people were injured from various types of weapons, said the head of the OVA Oleg Sinegubov. One more person was wounded in the town of Dvurechnaya and in the town of Izyum.

08:37 The General Staff announced the estimated losses of the Russian Federation as of the morning of May 13:

  • personnel - about 484,030 (+1740) people,

  • tanks - 7485 (+31),

  • armored combat vehicles - 14,417 (+42),

  • artillery systems - 12,487 (+15),

  • MLRS - 1070 (+4),

  • air defense systems - 797 (+0),

  • aircraft - 350 (+0),

  • helicopters - 325 (+0),

  • UAV of operational-tactical level - 9936 (+26),

  • cruise missiles - 2197 (+3),

  • ships/boats - 26 (+0),

  • submarines - 1 (+0),

  • automotive equipment and tank trucks - 16,878 (+59),

  • special equipment - 2048 (+6).

08:19 In Belogorod, a search and rescue operation at the site of a house collapse has been completed, 15 people are known to have died, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said that in total yesterday, 19 people were killed and 27 were injured as a result of alleged shelling.

02:21 In the Khar'kov direction, the operational situation remains complex and is changing dynamically, combat operations are underway in the Dusty - Lukyantsy, Dusty - Glubokoe, Dusty - Oleynikovo, Murom - Bugrovatka directions, the General Staff reported. In addition, the enemy is carrying out assault operations in the directions Streleche - Glubokoe, Oleynikovo - Glubokoe, Oleynikovo - Lukyantsy, Murom - Staritsa, Pletenevka - Tikhoe. During the day, the enemy carried out 22 assault operations in these directions, 14 of which are still ongoing.

There are also battles for the border town of Volchansk - the enemy has deployed significant forces to attack the city, consisting of up to five battalions. The enemy is currently enjoying tactical success. The Ukrainian side continues to deploy reserves to stabilize the situation. When determining tasks for troops, one of the main priorities is preserving the lives of military personnel, the General Staff emphasized.

01:30 In the Khar'kov region, the Russian army occupied the settlements of Morokhovets, Oleynikovo and Zelenoe and continues to move towards the village of Liptsy, reports the analytical project DeepState. There are active battles for Lukyantsy, which the enemy has almost completely occupied. The Russians are also trying to gain a foothold in Glubokoye. The enemy continues to approach Volchansk, gaining a foothold in the surrounding area for further entry into the city. The city is under heavy fire and the evacuation of the population continues. Information about the enemy's occupation of the settlement of Gatishche requires clarification.

In addition, the enemy advanced near Verbovoye, Zaporozhye region, in Krasnogorovka, in Netaylovo, west of Semenovka, east of Novopokrovsky, Donetsk region.

Niqab ban at Zakho university exams sparks debate
[Rudaw] Two female students at the faculty of Islamic studies in the University of Zakho
…Zakho is in Duhok province…
said on Sunday that they were barred from writing final exams because they wear the niqab, a traditional Islamic veil that completely covers the face and body. The university administration said that all students must be identified in order to prevent cheating.

The incident has sparked debate on social media about security and identification concerns versus religious freedom.

One of the students said they had been informed in advance that they would not be able to cover their faces during exams. "We complained, but no one listened to us. And today we attended wearing a niqab and the examinations committee told us we should not present ourselves like this," she told Rudaw’s Gharib Majid.

The student said they were first told that they could write their exams in a separate hall, monitored by female invigilators with no men present, which they would agree to, however that was later changed.

Another student said that this was her second year wearing a niqab to university and no one had obstructed her from writing exams before.

About five students refused to remove their niqabs and enter the exam hall, according to the students.

The University of Zakho said that they required all students to be identified in order to prevent cheating.

"Due to many unexpected situations, such as cheating issues and some other problems, students had been warned earlier that they should remove their niqabs for the exams, but they did not listen to this," read a statement from the university on Facebook, following an outcry on social media over the news.

"The students were told that a female inspector would examine them before entering the examination hall, but some of them refused," it added.

The niqab is a traditional article of clothing worn by some female Moslems around the world. What separates a niqab from the hijab is the face cover. A niqab must be loose fitting, be a muted color, and show only the eyes of the person.

Many countries have wrestled with regulating Islamic dress such as the niqab. Some European nations have imposed partial or full bans on face coverings, citing security, women’s rights, and secular traditions. Opponents of the bans argue they violate women’s human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
, could lead to the marginalization of women who chose to wear the coverings, and criticize laws that dictate what a woman can wear.

Rwanda denies involvement in grenade attack blamed on Burundi rebels
[AFRICANEWS] Rwanda says it didn't arm rebels accused of a grenade attack, despite Burundi's accusations. Relations between the two countries remain tense.

"We call on Burundi to solve its own internal problems and not associate Rwanda with such despicable matters," government spokesperson Yolande Makolo said in a statement Sunday.

Burundi's interior ministry blamed the grenade attack on Friday that injured 38 people on RED-Tabara rebels and said the group was backed by Rwanda. The rebel group denied responsibility for the attack.

Relations between Rwanda and Burundi have deteriorated since early this year when Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye renewed accusations that Rwanda was funding and training the RED-Tabara rebels, who oppose the Burundi government.

Burundian authorities consider RED-Tabara a terrorist movement and accuse its members of being part of a failed coup attempt in 2015. The group first appeared in 2011 and has been accused of a string of attacks in Burundi since 2015.

In January, the Rwandan government accused Burundi of closing the border between the two countries, two weeks after an attack that Burundi said was carried out by the RED-Tabara group.

Iraq
Iraq, Syria sign joint security pact
[Rudaw] The interior ministries of Iraq and Syria on Sunday signed a security agreement covering several areas including border control and combating drugs.

"A memorandum of understanding for joint security cooperation between the two countries was signed," Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul-Amir al-Shammari said during a presser in Baghdad with his Syrian counterpart Mohammed Khalid al-Rahmoun.

"The agreement included a number of articles related to cooperation in combating drugs, border control, extradition of wanted individuals, combating organized crime, and money laundering," Shammari added.

The Iraqi minister noted that there is "good" intelligence cooperation between Baghdad and Damascus and the "two countries have joint work in exchanging information."

"Cooperation in all fields, especially security, was discussed, as we suffered from terrorism in our countries, and there is a criminal phenomenon managed by drug trafficking and human trafficking gangs, so we signed a memorandum of joint security cooperation," Rahmoun said.

Previous security operations between the neighbours "have resulted in dismantling some networks and seizing quantities of drugs," according to Rahmoun.

They will hold a comprehensive meeting on regional security cooperation on July 22.

Iraq shares a long border with Syria, spanning over 600 kilometers. Only part of it is controlled by the government in Damascus. The northern portion is held by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Iraq has built a concrete wall along stretches of the border to prevent smuggling and the movement of gangs, including the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS), which seized control of vast swathes of Syrian and Iraqi land in 2014.

Hezbollah targets Israeli soldiers with new 'Jihad Mughniyeh' missile
[NEWARAB] Hezbollah announced that it targeted a group of Israeli soldiers on Sunday in the Shebaa border area using a new type of heavy rocket, named the "Jihad Mughniyeh" missile.

The rocket, an unguided tactical missile with a 120-kilogram warhead, was named after a Hezbollah soldier killed by Israel while fighting in Syria in 2015.

Jihad was the son of Imad Mughniyeh, one of the founders of Hezbollah who was accused by the US of carrying out the 1983 bombing of the US embassy in Beirut. Imad Mughniyeh was killed in a joint CIA-Mossad operation involving boom-mobile on 12 February 2008, in Damascus, Syria.

Four soldiers were wounded in northern Israel by anti-tank guided missile fire from Lebanon on Monday, as the country marked Memorial Day for fallen soldiers and victims of terror, the military and medical officials said.

The Israel Defense Forces said two anti-tank missiles had been launched at an area near Kibbutz Yiftah, resulting in the injury of four soldiers.

Ziv Hospital in Safed said the troops were brought to the medical center, where one of them was listed in moderate condition. The other three were lightly wounded.

The Hezbollah terror group claimed responsibility for the missile fire, saying it targeted a military position near Yiftah. Sirens had sounded in the community amid the attack.

Earlier Monday, two explosive-laden drones launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon struck an area near the northern community of Beit Hillel.

The IDF said the blasts sparked a fire that was extinguished a short while later.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Meghan Markle declares Nigeria as 'my country' during visit with Prince Harry
More on this story from yesterday.
[NYPOST] Princess Meghan Markle
...unlikable American former starlet married to the formerly likable Prince Harry. Chock full of lefty political opinions, Markle's most important characteristic is that she is Black, even though she doesn't look it. Her mother, y'see, is half black and her father is white, which would make her a quarter Black. Her half brother described her (to her husband, before their marriage) as a jaded, shallow, conceited woman that will make a joke of you and the royal family heritage. Once married, she was too good for the Royals and she and Harry decamped to Beverly Hills, kind of like the Clampetts did, thus making a joke of Harry and the royal family heritage...
has referred to Nigeria as "my country" as she opened up about her background during an engagement over the weekend.

On Saturday, the Duchess of Sussex co-hosted a Women in Leadership event with NgoziOkonjo-Iweala, director general of the World Trade Organization.

During the talk, the mom of two said that it has been "eye-opening" and "humbling" to learn more about her heritage during her and Prince Harry
’s three-day trip.

"I want to start by saying thank you very much for just how gracious you’ve all been in welcoming my husband and I to this country ... my country," Markle, 42, said at the event.

"I am just flattered and honored and inspired. It has been a whirlwind 24 hours since we arrived."

"And I very quickly got the memo that I need to wear more color, so I can fit in with all of you and your incredible fashion," she added.

The "Suits" alum opened up about what it has been like to delve into her background.

"Never in a million years would I understand it as much as I do now," she told the audience.

"And what has been echoed so much in the past day is, ’Oh, we are not so surprised when we found out you are Nigerian.’ "

"It is a compliment to you, because what they define as a Nigerian woman is brave, resilient, courageous, beautiful," the former actress added.

At one point, the audience was asked to come up with a Nigerian name for Markle.

One person suggested "Ifeoma" — a name from the Igbo tribe which means "a treasured thing."

Another said "Omowale" — a name originating from the Yoruba tribe which means "the child has come home."

On Sunday, the couple traveled from the capital city of Abuja to Lagos and were greeted by the state governor, local dancers and well-wishers on their final day.

"Today is Mother’s Day [in America]. So it feels appropriate that although, of course, we are missing our children, I’m missing my babies, it feels very appropriate to be in the motherland and amongst family," Markle said.

In 2022, Markle told her "Archetypes" podcast listeners that she had recently discovered she was "43% Nigerian" after completing an ancestry test.

And at the opening ceremony of last year’s Invictus Games in Germany, Harry made reference to his wife’s heritage.

Israeli settlers 'attack' Palestinians in occupied West Bank
[GEO.TV] Israeli settlers launched fresh attacks on Paleostinians and set their land on fire in the occupied West Bank on Monday, the Wafa news agency reported.

The attacks were carried out near the village of Madama south of Nablus. Israeli forces are preventing other Paleostinians from accessing the area to stop the settlers, the news agency said.

In the Bethlehem area, settlers also stole large quantities of wheat and barley crops from Paleostinian farmers.

The incident took place in the village of al-Minya southeast of Bethlehem, where settlers also attacked farmers and sheep herders, Wafa added.

struck Monday an area near Beit Hillel in northern Israel, Israeli media said.

Hezbollah grabbed credit for the attack and said it has carried out an aerial attack with "a swarm of suicide drones" targeting tents and "sleeping quarters" for an Israeli artillery battalion in a newly created post in Beit Hillel.

The Israeli army said the attack caused no casualties.

Hezbollah later targeted a Merkava tank in the Yiftah barracks, wounding four soldiers.

Hezbollah fighters fired "a guided missile" at an Israeli Merkava tank across the border on Monday morning, destroying it "after closely monitoring the enemy's movements," the group said in a statement.

The Israeli army said "two anti-tank missiles" crossed from Lebanon into the area of Yiftah, less than two kilometers from the border.

The missiles maimed four Israeli soldiers, the army said, one of them moderately and the rest lightly and all were taken to hospital.

Hezbollah has since attacked Israel many times with explosive-laden drones.

Hezbollah also targeted Monday a post in the occupied Kfarshouba Hills and groups of soldiers in Berkat Risha, the Biranit barracks, and the al-Jerdah post.

Senior Hezbollah official Sheikh Nabil Qaouq said Monday that Hezbollah's drones can reach beyond Akka and Haifa in northern Israel.

He added that Israelis can not return to the north before the war on Gaza stops.

Tens of thousands of people have been displaced on both sides of the border in the seven months of cross-border violence.

At least 410 people have been killed in Lebanon in months of cross-border violence, mostly snuffies but also including 79 civilians, according to an AFP tally.

Israel says 14 soldiers and nine civilians have been killed on its side of the border.

United States announces the allocation of a new package of military assistance to Ukraine
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The United States expects to increase the pace of arms supplies to Ukraine, but will not be able to announce new military aid packages every week.National Security Advisor to the President of the United States Jake Sullivan stated this during a briefing on May 13.

The White House announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine
“In the coming days we will be announcing a PDA (Presidential Drawdown Authority) package because we are really trying to increase the pace of delivery,” Sullivan said.

At the same time, the American administration cannot promise that Washington will announce new supplies every week, the White House representative added.

Sullivan also said that Ukraine, due to logistical difficulties, has still not received most of the weapons from the aid package of about one billion dollars, which was announced at the end of April.

According to him, a long pause in the supply of military assistance has driven Kyiv into a very difficult situation, when Ukrainian troops are forced to retreat in all directions in the zone of a special military operation under pressure from the Russian Armed Forces. At the same time, Sullivan previously admitted that the large aid package approved by Washington will not prevent the Russian military from achieving success on the battlefield in the foreseeable future.

As Regnum reported, on May 10, United States President Joe Biden ordered military aid to Ukraine in the amount of $400 million, which will include missiles for Patriot air defense systems and Javelin anti-tank systems, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and other weapons. Prior to this, Biden signed a law allocating about $61 billion in military aid to Ukraine. For several months until April 20, the House of Representatives of the US Congress did not approve the corresponding document; on April 23, the bill was approved by the Senate. Most of the funds will be directed to enterprises of the American military-industrial complex and the Pentagon.

The Russian side has repeatedly called on Western countries to refrain from supplying military aid to Ukraine. The head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, noted that any military cargo intended for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is a legitimate target for the Russian military. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, in turn, stated that the supply of weapons to Kiev does not affect the course of the special military operation, but only prolongs the conflict.

Enough is enough, sez Maria Zakharov. More from regnum.ru
“Chief, everything is lost”: Zakharova ridiculed the call to increase arms supplies to Kyiv

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, ridiculed the call of Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo to increase the supply of military aid to Ukraine due to the high threat of defeat for Kiev.

The diplomat posted on her Telegram channel an excerpt from the film “The Diamond Arm,” where Andrei Mironov’s character exclaims: “Chief, everything is lost! The plaster is removed, the client leaves.”

Earlier, Orpo said that the situation in Ukraine is critical, so the West needs to act immediately. He called for an urgent increase in the supply of military aid to the Kyiv regime, since the threat of its defeat of Kyiv is now extremely high.

As Regnum reported, on May 10, the United States announced a decision to send $400 million in military aid to Ukraine. The funds will be used for military products, training and education. The aid package includes Patriot missiles, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, MRAP explosive devices and Javelin anti-tank missiles.

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov called Washington's allocation of a new package of military assistance to the Kiev regime a reaction to the successes of the Russian army.

Russia has repeatedly called on Western countries to refrain from providing military assistance to Ukraine. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any military cargo intended for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is a legitimate target for the Russian Armed Forces.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, in turn, pointed out that arms supplies to Ukraine are not capable of changing the course of a special military operation, but will only prolong and increase the suffering of residents of the territory controlled by Kiev.

Ukrainian perspective: New front. The situation in the Kharkov region
Direct Translation via Googlew Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] In the Kharkov direction, the Ukrainian defense forces inflicted a fiery defeat on the Russians, pushed them back and are clearing them on the northern outskirts of the village of Volchansk.

Russian troops are advancing in the Kharkov region on two directions and have captured several villages near the border. The priority goal is an attack on Volchansk and an attempt to surround the city. The General Staff reports that the Ukrainian Armed Forces inflicted a fiery defeat on the Russians, pushed them back and are carrying out a clean-up operation on the northern outskirts of Volchansk. At the same time, Ukrainian society is actively discussing the construction of fortifications in the Kharkov region and whether the authorities were ready for a new attack, which the military and intelligence warned about.

STRETCH THE DEFENSE
Russian occupiers in the Kharkov region are attacking in small groups in new directions, trying to stretch the defense of the Ukrainian military, says Oleg Sinegubov, chairman of the Kharkov OVA. According to information from the General Staff, battles are underway for Volchansk. The Russians attracted significant forces to attack the city - up to 5 battalions - and do not take into account their own losses. The Russian invaders lost more than 100 soldiers per day in this direction alone.

There are also battles to the north of Kharkov - in the directions Pylnaya - Lukyantsy, Pylnaya - Glubokoe, Pylnaya - Oleynikovo, Murom - Bugrovatka. In addition, the Russians are carrying out assault operations in the directions Strelechya - Glubokoe, Oleynikovo - Glubokoe, Oleynikovo - Lukyantsy, Murom - Staritsa, Pletenevka - Tikhoe.

WHAT ABOUT THE FORTIFICATIONS?
Fortifications were built in Volchansk, but constant Russian shelling made it difficult to build them, Tamaz Gambarashvili, head of the Volchanskaya GVA, told Radio Liberty.

Answering a question about how they prepared for the offensive of the Russian occupiers, the head of the GVA assured that “everything was built, but perhaps not so tightly.” “After de-occupation, Volchansk has been under constant fire for a year and a half. And mortars and artillery. Therefore, I repeat once again: from Volchansk to the border is four km. It was extremely difficult to build fortifications,” he emphasized.

The head of the administration of the State Special Transport Service of the Ministry of Defense, Alexander Yakovets, said that the most equipped fortifications, which include reinforced concrete structures and premises for shelter and accommodation of military personnel, are located at a distance of 17-35 km from the front line.

Yuriy Fedorenko, commander of the battalion of attack unmanned aerial systems ACHILLES of the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade named after Koshevoy Ataman Ivan Sirko, was the first to draw attention to the unsatisfactory condition of fortifications in the Kharkov region.

“If we analyze how the enemy strengthened its combat positions and occupied territories, we saw these satellite images where just hectares and kilometers were dug up - defense lines, fortifications, dragons’ teeth; anti-tank, anti-personnel mining; first line of defense, second, third. Was the preparation of the combat positions of the Defense Forces completely mirrored? In my opinion, no. But it cannot be said that no work was carried out and everyone did not feel that this threat could exist. The defensive lines were prepared. The near future will show how efficiently and effectively this was done,” Fedorenko said.

According to him, the Russians are now trying to test the Ukrainian line of defense, understand where there are weak areas, “to increase their presence as much as possible so that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are forced to maintain a serious group of forces and equipment here.”

GLOBAL IMPLICATIONS
The opening of a new front in the north of the country is depleting Ukraine's already limited resources. Due to delays in the delivery of American military aid, Ukrainian troops are running short of ammunition.

On average, for every 10 shells fired by the Russians, Ukraine could respond with one. Thanks to renewed US support, this problem is gradually being resolved.

But the offensive near Kharkov also reveals problems that Ukraine itself has been too slow to resolve: mobilizing enough military personnel and building adequate lines of defense. Reinforcements sent to Kharkov have to be redeployed from other sectors of the front and from limited reserves.

Ukrainian officials still insist that Kharkov itself is not threatened by a ground invasion. But the further Russian troops advance, the more likely it is that the city will be within range of Russian artillery.

Russian offensive in the Kharkov region: number of Russians declines
In the Kharkov region, fighting continues in border areas
At first there were about 50,000 Russian military personnel on the border. Currently, more than 30,000 of them are involved in the offensive.

More than 30,000 Russian troops are advancing in the north of the Kharkov region. This was announced by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexander Litvinenko, reports Le Figaro.

According to him, initially about 50,000 Russian military personnel were concentrated on the northeastern border.

A significant part of them are already advancing on Ukrainian territories. Litvinenko noted that we are talking about more than 30 thousand occupiers.

According to all reports, Ukrainian soldiers are ready to repel attacks; heavy fighting continues now, the NSDC secretary added.

Let us recall that on May 10, the Russians launched an offensive in the north of the Kharkov region. They captured several villages in the "gray zone". Now there are battles for the border town of Volchansk.

President Vladimir Zelensky announced the strengthening of the Defense Forces in the Volchansk region of the Kharkov region and other border areas.

About the appointment of Belousov
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Chernovec] Everyone has already heard that Sergei Shoigu was removed from the Ministry of Defense. Andrei Belousov, first deputy prime minister of the government, was appointed Minister of Defense.

A few words on this matter.

The minister does not draw arrows on the map, he must make the army machine work like a clock. We must remember that the Defense Ministry is also the military-industrial complex and support for the warring army. But the leadership of combat operations is the job of the General Staff.

Further. Belousov is highlighted in a negative light in few places, or rather nowhere at all. But there are enough positive moments and aspects of his activities.

For those who did not know, it is Belousov who is the architect of the sanctions confrontation, therefore, thanks to his knowledge, optimizations will take place in the economic holes in the Russian troops. In essence, the president transferred a specialist on the economic front to another front. The Russian economy turned out to be surprisingly strong despite the package of sanctions and the freezing of part of its reserves.

What should you expect?

Belousov's future role is more of an auditor, a process regulator. And he is an experienced manager - after all, he is the second person in the government.

“Optimization” according to Serdyukovsky should definitely not be expected. This is definitely not about now.

I hope that the Ministry of Defense is waiting for a personnel shake-up of the ministry with the promotion of combat generals to the place of parquet generals.
That is, in fact, what already has happened. Two of Shoigu's top ministers, Ruslan Tsalikov AND Aleksey Krivoruchko were dismissed. Whether that means a total restructuring of the leadership of the ministry of defense is anyone's guess. Worth noting is that so far, the Russian Chief of General Staff, Valery Gerasimov is indicated as still the chief of staff.
I hope the practice of “positive reports to the top” will go away. Without real reports, it is impossible to admit shortcomings, which means it is impossible to correct them.

By the way, Belousov is notable for his bravura reports, but for his truth and substance.

I hope for Col. Gen. Sergey Surovikin’s return, even if not to the highest, but to a command position. Surovikin is a military general, he is needed at the front.
No indication so far whether Surovikin is out of Putin's dog house.
I hope that Gerasimov will receive his well-deserved honorable retirement.

We will see how Andrei Removich learns from his work.

Gagarin: the new appointment of the head of the Ministry of Defense is a grandmaster move by the president
The appointment of former First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov as head of the Russian Ministry of Defense will be a grandmaster move by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The new minister will achieve the goals of the special operation without mobilizing the economy.

Consequently, this appointment involves organizing all the activities of the ministry based on the principle of its subordination to the country’s economy, and not vice versa, says Anatoly Gagarin, director of the Institute of Systemic Political Research and Humanitarian Projects.

The new head of the Ministry of Defense, according to the expert, in addition to the fact that he, like Sergei Shoigu, is a convinced statesman with a strong will, with extensive experience in public administration, is a strong economist with a good mathematical foundation.

“Belousov’s entire previous activity is the consistent implementation of state policy in the fields of economics and management. All his actions are subordinated to this principle, and there have never been any other interpretations or fluctuations on his part. And this is exactly what the president appreciates him for... And this appointment, in essence, is a grandmaster move by the president, involves building the activities of the Ministry of Defense as subordinate to the country’s economy, and not the country’s economy - the activities of the Ministry of Defense,” Gagarin commented.

According to the expert, the main line of the new Minister of Defense is not difficult to understand if you recall one of Belousov’s interviews as First Deputy Prime Minister, recorded in December 2022, in which he said that Russia does not need a mobilization economy, and there are enough resources to solve the problems challenges facing the country.

“In this sense, the synchronicity of Belousov’s actions and thoughts completely coincides with the way of thinking and goals that the president outlined. And if we look at the trajectory of his career, we will see that he is not only always next to the president, but he is a person to whom the president entrusts many complex and responsible positions, so that he can come and establish the most meaningful order. He is not a career military man, but he understands perfectly how the support system for our troops, which is necessary now, should be structured. Extremely transparent, understandable and very effective. Including cost-effective,” the expert shared his reasoning.

As Regnum reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to change the leadership of the Ministry of Defense. On May 12, the head of state proposed that the Federation Council appoint former First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov, who has significant experience in government agencies, government and the scientific field, as head of the department.

As press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov noted, the Ministry of Defense must respond to advanced ideas, and Belousov has experience in successfully leading the Ministry of Economic Development and working as assistant to the president on economic issues.

The appointment of Andrei Belousov to the post of Minister of Defense of Russia is a tragic event for Ukraine, said Verkhovna Rada deputy from the Batkivshchyna faction Alexey Kucherenko. He thanked the Ukrainian economist Alexei Kushch for his in-depth analysis of this event, who called Belousov’s appointment “ bad news ” for Kiev, clarifying that “everything is leading to a sharp increase in the dynamics of the Russian military-industrial complex and an increase in military production in Russia.”

Peskov: Shoigu will oversee the work, but not head the FSMTC
Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu will oversee the work of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), there is no talk of him being the direct head of this service, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on May 13.

“Shoigu will oversee the work of the FSMTC. There is no question that he will be the immediate head of this service,” the Kremlin representative explained.

According to the presidential decree on the structure of federal authorities, the FSMTC is directly subordinate to the head of state.

As Regnum reported, Peskov was informed on May 12 that by decree of President Vladimir Putin, Shoigu was relieved of his post as acting defense minister and appointed to the post of secretary of the Russian Security Council. It was proposed to appoint Belousov, who held the post of first deputy prime minister, to replace the head of the Ministry of Defense. Peskov clarified that Shoigu, in his position as Secretary of the Security Council, will simultaneously be deputy head of the presidential commission on the military-industrial complex.

Journalist Pavel Zarubin showed a conversation with acting Defense Minister Shoigu, recorded immediately after the resignation of the government on May 6. According to I. O. Head of the Ministry of Defense, President Vladimir Putin, in his speech, highly appreciated the work of the government, mentioning the achievement of results in the most difficult, difficult conditions against the backdrop of a pandemic and sanctions.

On May 7, the entire government resigned before President Putin, who took office. At its meeting on May 13, the State Duma approved the candidacies of deputy prime ministers of the Russian government.

🚨Head of the Main Personnel Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defense Yuri Kuznetsov was detained - TASS
❗The head of the Main Personnel Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Kuznetsov, was detained, TASS reports citing law enforcement agencies.

“Lieutenant General Kuznetsov was detained as a suspect in a criminal offense. The investigation of the case is being carried out by the Main Military Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. The investigator has already applied to the court to select a preventive measure for the general in the form of detention,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

▪According to preliminary data, he is charged with previously committed crimes when he served as head of the State Secrets Protection Service of the Ministry of Defense. Information about his arrest is confirmed by other sources.

“We confirm the investigative measures against Yuri Kuznetsov, the former head of the 8th service (protection of state secrets), who now heads the main personnel department of the RF Ministry of Defense: Kuznetsov was no longer at his workplace today.

As far as we know, Kuznetsov’s activities came under the attention of the investigation precisely still in the post of head of the service for protecting state secrets, and not his personnel affairs,” reports Rybar.

EU condemns El Fasher violence, demands unhindered aid access
[SUDANTRIBUNE] The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
has strongly condemned the recent escalation of fighting in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, which has caused a further deterioration of the humanitarian crisis and endangered civilians.

In a joint statement, EU High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell and EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič expressed grave concern about the situation.

"The indiscriminate attacks from both sides, including on the Babiker Nahar Paediatric Hospital, are unacceptable," the statement declared. "We are particularly alarmed by the lack of medical supplies and medicines at Al Fasher South Hospital, the only functioning hospital in the entire state."

The statement highlighted the ongoing obstruction of aid delivery, with over 800,000 civilians trapped in El Fasher denied essential assistance since April 2023.

"We remind all parties of their obligation under international humanitarian law to protect civilians," the EU representatives emphasized. "Denying access to food, healthcare, and humanitarian aid is a clear violation of international law, and may constitute war crimes."

The EU demanded immediate, unconditional, and unhindered access for humanitarian aid across Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
. They pointed out that only 39 aid trucks have reached El Fasher so far in 2024, severely limiting assistance to civilians in desperate need.
