Police break up University of Michigan encampment; New School to hold divestment vote
[israelTimes] Camp was threat to safety with overloaded power sources, open flames, says school president; Drexel University campus on lockdown as officials threaten to clear encampment

US police broke up a pro-Paleostinian, anti-Israel encampment Tuesday at the University of Michigan, less than a week after demonstrators showed up at the home of a school official and placed fake body bags on her lawn.

Officers wearing helmets with face shields moved in before sunrise to clear the Diag, known for decades as a site for campus protests. Video footage posted online showed police at times using what appeared to be an irritant to spray people, who were forced to retreat.

The encampment had been set up in late April near the end of the school year and as families arrived for spring commencement. Posters taunting president Santa Ono and other officials were also displayed.

After the camp was cleared, nearby buildings, including the undergraduate and graduate libraries, were closed, and police turned away students who showed up to study.

Ono said in a statement that the encampment had become a threat to safety, with overloaded power sources and open flames. Organizers, he added, had refused to comply with requests to make changes following an inspection by a fire marshal.

"The disregard for safety directives was only the latest in a series of troubling events centered on an encampment that has always violated the rules that govern the Diag — especially the rules that ensure the space is available to everyone," Ono said.

Protesters have demanded that the school’s endowment stop investing in companies with ties to Israel. But the university insists it has no direct investments and less than $15 million placed with funds that might include companies in Israel. That’s less than 0.1 percent of the total endowment.

"There’s nothing to talk about. That issue is settled," Sarah Hubbard, chair of the Board of Regents, said last week.

A group of 30 protesters showed up at her house before dawn last week and placed stuffed, red-stained sheets on her lawn to resemble body bags. They banged a drum and rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud over a bullhorn. People wearing face coverings also posted demands at the doors of other board members.

"This conduct is where our failure to address antisemitism leads literally — literally — to the front door of my home," board member Mark Bernstein, a bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit
... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang...
-area lawyer, said at a board meeting last week. "Who’s next? When and where will this end? As a Jew, I know the answer to these questions because our experience is full of tragedies that we are at grave risk of repeating. Enough is enough."

Students and others have set up tent encampments on campuses around the country to press colleges to cut financial ties with Israel.

Tensions over the war have been high on campuses since the fall, but demonstrations spread quickly following an April 18 police crackdown on an encampment at Columbia University. Arrests at campuses have surpassed the 3,000 mark nationwide.

solidarity encampment being dismantled. According to a statement from the school, an investment board will hold a vote on June 14 to end any investments in certain companies in line with calls made by anti-Israel student protesters and a slew of faculty members who launched their own demonstrations following a police crackdown.

"They call for complete divestment from industries implicated in military and police violence in Gaza and the West Bank, and all global militarized conflict such as companies or subsidiaries involved in weapons manufacturing, military supplies and equipment, military communication, and public surveillance technology," the statement read.

The agreement also gave amnesty to those involved in protests.

The statement coincided with one by the school announcing that Joel Towers will take over as school president. Towers previously headed the Parsons School of Design, whose faculty has been involved in the anti-Israel protests.

"We will continue to strengthen our commitment to academic excellence and freedom, and foster openness and mutual respect," he said in a statement.

Also Monday, Drexel University in Philadelphia threatened to clear an encampment with the campus on lockdown and classes being held virtually as police kept watch over the demonstration. Many Drexel employees were told to work from home. President John Fry said late Monday that the encampment had disrupted campus life and "cannot be allowed to remain in place."

"This demonstration already has proved intolerably disruptive to normal University operations and has raised serious concerns about the conduct of some participants, including distressing reports and images of protesters subjecting passersby to antisemitic speech, signs and chants," Fry said, declaring that "this encampment must end."

scores of graduating students staged a walkout from Yale University’s commencement exercises on Monday, protesting the Israeli war against Hamas

in Gaza, Yale’s financial ties to weapons makers and its response to demonstrations on the Ivy League campus. The walkout began as Yale president Peter Salovey started to announce the traditional college-by-college presentation of candidates for degrees on the grounds of Yale’s Old Campus, filled with thousands of graduates in their caps and gowns.

At least 150 students seated near the front of the audience stood up together, turned their backs to the stage and paraded out of the ceremony through Phelps Gate, retracing their steps during the processional into the yard. Many of the protesters carried small banners with such slogans as "Books not bombs" and "Divest from war." Some wore red-colored latex gloves symbolizing bloodied hands.

Other signs read: "Drop the charges" and "Protect free speech," in reference to 45 people arrested in a police crackdown last month on demonstrations in and around the New Haven, Connecticut, campus.

Wesleyan University in Connecticut said it had reached an agreement with student protesters to review possible divestment, with meetings scheduled for later this month and in the fall. Wesleyan president Michael Roth announced the deal over the weekend and disclosed that 1.7% of Wesleyan’s endowment was invested in aerospace and defense businesses, but that none were directly involved in the manufacture of weapons. As part of the agreement, Wesleyan protesters cleared their encampment on Monday, according to a school spokesperson.

#3  Antisemitism is perfectly legal, as is any other kind of hateful opinion. Beating people up in the street, on the quad, or in the library because they “look Jewish” is illegal. In certain states boycotting/divesting from Israeli investments as an act of intentional discrimination on the part of public institutions — like universities — is also illegal. In those states, private individuals and entities may boycott and divest all they want, but public entities may not do business with them.

All you need are some convictions, some testimony, some social media coordination and the suits follow for conspiracy to deprive civil rights (assembly, association), intimidation, etc.

The Universities are also legally vulnerable for failing to protect students if there charters are written the way most are written.

Strip.

Last Friday, the Houthis claimed downing an American drone over the province of Marib, hours after footage circulated online of what appeared to be the wreckage of an MQ-9 Reaper.

Houthi military front man Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree said Tuesday the latest drone was shot down with a locally made surface-to-air missile. He did not say when it occurred but alleged the drone "was carrying out hostile missions" over Yemen’s southern province of Bayda.

Responding to an News Agency that Dare Not be Named inquiry, the US military’s Central Command acknowledged reports about the downing but declined to comment.

Reapers cost around $30 million apiece. They can fly at altitudes up to 50,000 feet (15,000 meters) and have an endurance of up to 24 hours before needing to land.

The Houthis in recent months have stepped up attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, demanding that Israel end the war in Gaza, which was sparked by Hamas’s October 7 onslaught.

The Houthis have launched more than 50 attacks on shipping, seized one vessel and sunk another since November, according to the US Maritime Administration.

Shipping through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden has declined because of the threat.

The rebels claimed last week that they fired a missile toward a US Navy destroyer in the Red Sea. However,

Ombudsman: Israel Health Ministry didn’t check 82% of reports on COVID vaccine side effects
[IsraelTimes] Comptroller says ministry failed to sufficiently combat vaccine misinformation during pandemic, made decisions on vaccine’s safety based on incomplete data

State Comptroller Matanyahu Englman’s office released a report Tuesday criticizing the Health Ministry’s conduct during the COVID-19 pandemic, revealing that the ministry didn’t process or analyze thousands of reports it had received about various vaccine side effects.

In 2021, the Health Ministry received some 345,200 reports on side effects caused by the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)

...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
vaccine, sent by hospitals and Health Maintenance Organizations, the Comptroller’s Office said, but just 18 percent of reports were accurately recorded in the ministry’s database. The other 82% of reports were lost due to technical errors and system malfunctions.

The Health Ministry also failed to process an additional 33,000 reports filed by the public regarding side effects due to limited ability to analyze reports filed anonymously. Adding to that, a lack of manpower in the ministry’s Department of Epidemiology meant that reports that contained identifying details were also unable to be reviewed and investigated.

As a result of the missing data, the Health Ministry based its findings on the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine on just 55,000 reports.

The majority of the side effects that were successfully recorded were mild, the Comptroller’s Office found, and included complaints such as low fever and pain at the vaccine site.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
there were instances of more serious side effects as well, including roughly 200 reports from women experiencing changes in their menstrual cycles after receiving the vaccine. Although the Health Ministry recorded these side effects, it did not investigate them in a timely manner, the Comptroller’s Office stated.

In practice, the Health Ministry was found to have investigated just 1,000 instances of severe side effects. Of that number, it examined 275 cases of myocarditis and pericarditis, the majority of which resulted in the patient needing to be hospitalized.

In response to the findings detailed in the report, the Health Ministry said Tuesday that it had accurately collected all reported instances of side effects, saying that it had collected the data in a new system rather than in the ministry’s usual database.

"Since there were dozens of reports that didn’t contain critical information or that were unrelated to the coronavirus vaccines, it was agreed that the reports would be collected manually and analyzed by Health Ministry employees," it added as an explanation as to why the databases appeared to lack data.

The State Comptroller’s report also found that the Health Ministry had failed to propagandize educate the public sufficiently on combatting false information and anti-vaccination propaganda, and didn’t have any strategy to prevent it from spreading.

The failure to combat anti-vaccine misinformation may have resulted in increased skepticism toward vaccines in general, the Comptroller’s Office found, citing data collected in a Government Advertising Bureau survey in 2022, which found that 57% of parents were concerned about vaccines causing permanent damage to their children, up from 46% in 2016.

In light of the findings, Englman instructed the Health Ministry to implement a more advanced system for storing, collection and analyzing data on vaccine side effects.

French police arrest protesters who allegedly assaulted security at Jewish event
[IsraelTimes] No one is hurt in incident at aliyah fair in Lyon, which saw a similar disruption in December

Police in Lyon, La Belle France arrested several people who assaulted security personnel guarding an event organized by the Jewish Agency for Israel, the organization said.

The incident Tuesday evening ended without serious injury, the La Belle France office of the Jewish Agency wrote in a statement.

The altercation followed a pro-Paleostinian demonstration that took place earlier Tuesday near the Perrache train and bus station in the second district at the center of the eastern city.

Several hours after that demonstration ended, the Jewish Agency for Israel held an aliyah fair — an event to encourage immigration by Jews to Israel — at a venue in the same district.

About 90 minutes into that event, several pro-Paleostinian activists arrived and began assaulting the security guards, leading police to intervene, the French-language statement said.

"At no point did the assailants enter the venue and none of the participants was in any danger," the statement said. No protesters were present on the street when the fair ended and participants left the venue "in total safety," the statement said.

More than 3,000 people have attended a series of aliyah fairs in Gay Paree, Marseille and Lyon this week, Sofer said. The Jewish Agency expects some 3,200 new immigrants colonists, or olim, to move to Israel this year, more than three times last year’s tally, Jewish Agency representative Shay Felver said Monday at a Knesset committee discussion about aliyah.

Ariel Kandel, the head of the Qualita nonprofit for encouraging aliyah from La Belle France, told The Times of Israel that a similar incident happened in Lyon during an aliyah fair in December. "Unfortunately, this is the current reality in La Belle France," he said.

In 2023, La Belle France registered the highest increase in recorded antisemitic incidents of any country with reliable statistics, according to a report published earlier this month by Tel Aviv University and the Anti-Defamation League. The report showed a near-quadrupling of incidents in La Belle France, from 436 in 2022 to 1,676 last year.

On May 17, a synagogue was torched in Rouen, La Belle France, in what police suspect was an antisemitic hate crime.

The 2023 tally showed that 74 percent of the incidents happened after October 7, when invading Hamas

It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
"The war in Israel, along with the atmosphere of antisemitism and the thousands of incidents targeting French Jews, is prompting an unprecedented desire among French Jews to make aliyah and help the war effort," Kandel said in a statement Monday.

BREAKING: Portland voters fire Soros-funded DA Mike Schmidt in landslide defeat
[PM] On Tuesday night, voters in Multnomah County, Oregon fired one-term George Soros-backed incumbent District Attorney Mike Schmidt.

Fox 12 called the race at approximately 9:30 pm local time with Schmidt’s opponent Nathan Vasquez leading 58 percent to 42 percent. In a non-partisan primary, if a candidate garners over 50 percent of the vote, they are declared the winner of the election but don’t take office until January 2025.

According to the Oregonian, Vasquez, a longtime prosecutor, began working for the District Attorney’s office fresh out of law school. Over the last 24 years, he worked his way up the chain to become a supervisor.

Vasquez’s campaign focused on Schmidt’s soft-on-crime policies that have led to the deterioration of downtown Portland which has become overrun with homelessness and drugs.

Since he won in 2020, Schmidt has been criticized by the union that represents prosecutors which ended up endorsing Vasquez. Downtown business groups also backed Vasquez.

The Oregon Bureau of Labor & Industries found last year substantial evidence in favor of former prosecutor Amber Kinney, who alleged when she quit in 2022 that Schmidt had created a “workplace culture of fear, intimidation, and retaliation,” and had set women’s advancement in the office back by “decades.”

A senior prosecutor recently accused Schmidt of making decisions regarding promotions and clemency based on political loyalties rather than using policies in place.

Oregon Live reported that even a last-minute influx of cash to his campaign from groups tied to far-left Democratic mega-donor George Soros could not help Schmidt’s sinking campaign overcome all the baggage.

Pig farmer and Serial killer Robert Pickton savagely attacked in prison, not expected to survive
[NY Post] The Canadian serial killer who lured over two dozen female victims to his pig farm is clinging to life after he was viciously attacked in prison, officials said.

Robert Pickton, 74, was in a segregated intervention unit at the maximum-security Port-Cartier Institution when he was speared in the head with a broken broom handle on Sunday evening, the Vancouver Sun reported.

As of Tuesday, Pickton was in critical condition and was not expected to survive.

Pickton’s 51-year-old attacker — whose name has not been released — had done a stint in solitary confinement for previous assaults on other inmates, a source told the outlet.

"The safety and security of institutions is paramount and an investigation into what occurred is currently underway," the Correctional Service of Canada told The Post in a statement.
"Right now we're just trying to find out what kind of cake he prefers"
The organization was not able to provide an update on Pickton’s condition.

Pickton was convicted of six counts of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison with the maximum parole ineligibility period of 25 years in 2007.

He was also charged with the murders of 21 other women, but those counts were stayed, the Vancouver Sun explained.

In total, investigators found DNA from 33 women — many of them sex workers who vanished from Vancouver’s downtown eastside in the 1990s and early 2000s — at Pickton’s Port Coquitlam pig farm.

Pickton also once allegedly bragged to an undercover police officer that he had killed as many as 49 women.

Grisly rumors about Pickton’s pig farm had swirled around the Vancouver area for years before he was finally arrested in 2002 — and authorities were criticized for initially failing to take the spate of missing women seriously.

"This news actually gives me a little bit of closure for myself," Cynthia Cardinal, whose sister Georgina Papin was one of PIckton’s official victims, told Postmedia of the killer’s injuries.

"I’ve had all these feelings today. I know it’s Georgina. And I know she’s happy," she added, calling Pickton’s injuries "karma."

Video: Biden Malfunctions, Touts Signing the ‘Pacandlpacatlackack'
[Breitbart] During a speech in New Hampshire on Tuesday discussing the Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act, President Joe Biden seemingly had trouble pronouncing the name of the legislation.

Biden highlighted the success of the PACT Act, which expanded health care and other benefits to veterans who were exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, or other toxic chemicals. The PACT Act was signed into law on August 10, 2022.

As he was closing out his speech, Biden seemed to butcher the name of the PACT Act, referring to it as the "pacandlpacatlackack."

"Let me close with this," Biden said. "After I signed the pacandlpacatlackack into law, I handed the pen and I signed it with a wiszzfschuna, the most person most responsible for the legislation to a widow and her daughter of a late Sgt. First Class Heath Robinson."

At the beginning of Biden’s speech, he referenced his eldest and late son, Beau Biden, who died from brain cancer in May 2015, roughly six years after he had served in Iraq.

Biden has often blamed burn pits for his son’s brain cancer.

"I’m proud to announce the VA just granted its one millionth PACT Act claim, one millionth. It’s a major milestone, providing $5.7 million in benefits to 890,000 veterans and their families so far in hand, including 3,000 here in New Hampshire," Biden said. "It matters because too many service members have not only braved the battlefield, but they also while breathing in toxic fumes and burn from burn pits."

Biden continued to add that his son, Beau, was "one of those veterans" who had been exposed to toxic fumes from burn pits.

"So, this is personal to me and my family, and to his family and his children," Biden added.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced in a press release on Tuesday that the department expected "to grant its one millionth PACT ACT-related disability compensation claims to Veterans" since Biden had signed the legislation.

A Harvard-Harris poll from the beginning of May showed that a plurality of voters feel that Biden is "getting worse" as he continues to serve as president. The poll found that 47 percent think Biden has gotten worse, while 29 percent have expressed he is improving.

A Quinnipiac poll from February found that 67 percent of voters feel that at 81, Biden is too old to serve another term, while 31 percent feel that Biden is not too old.

When asked about Biden’s mental and physical fitness, 35 percent said Biden had the physical fitness to serve another term, while 62 percent said Biden lacked the physical fitness.

Afghanistan
More Proof Biden Was Warned About Disastrous Afghanistan Withdrawal
[Hot Air] Everyone has long since recognized what an utter disaster the American withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 turned out to be. It wasn't only the deaths of American and allied service members, the bodies falling from planes at Kabul airport, and the desperation of the more Westernized Afghan people as the Taliban approached. The previous system collapsed in a way that sent shockwaves through the region and proved destabilizing far beyond the borders of that country. But how could Joe Biden have known all of this? Many (including myself) were ready for the war to be over and he had promised to make that happen.

Was there some way that the situation might have been resolved differently? As it turns out, there was. And Biden had been made aware of all of this. He didn't hear it from pundits or policy analysts. During recent testimony before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Retired General Austin Scott Miller, who had been in charge of our Afghanistan forces at the time, told Congress that he had specifically warned the President what would happen if the pullout was conducted as it was being planned. He was ignored and the results speak for themselves. (Daily Caller)

Hearing goes off the rails as Ted Cruz accuses Biden official of funding Hamas attack on Israel
[FoxNews] Texas Sen. Ted Cruz blasted Secretary of State Anthony Blinken for failing to crack down on Iran's sanctions avoidance

Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz pulled no punches while questioning Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a heated Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Tuesday.

The tense clash between the two began with Cruz blasting the Biden administration's "worst foreign policy disaster of modern times," referencing its handling of Iran and the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, and culminated with the senator accusing the White House of indirectly funding the attack.

"Mr. Secretary, you have presided over the worst foreign policy disaster of modern times," Cruz began. "When Joe Biden became president, he inherited peace and prosperity in the world. We now have two simultaneous wars waging: the worst war in Europe since World War II, and the worst war in the Middle East in 50 years. Both, I believe, were caused by this administration's consistent weakness."

"Your foreign policy is precisely backwards from what a rational American foreign policy should be to our friends and allies. This administration has consistently undermined, weakened and attacked them," he added. "And to our enemies, this administration has shown constant appeasement and indeed has flowed billions of dollars to the enemies of America who want to kill us."

The two clashed over the Biden administration's effort to prevent Israel from attacking Rafah, a city in the Gaza Strip, as part of its efforts to root out Hamas terrorists from among the Palestinians, with Cruz demanding to know whether they offered Israel intelligence on the terrorists if they would hold off attacking.

Blinken denied any such action was taken and attempted to expand on what he said was President Biden's support for Israel, but Cruz stopped him, saying he wasn't interested in a "campaign speech."

Cruz continued to press him, but Blinken called the notion "misleading and wrong," and said the U.S. government shares intelligence if it's available.

Cruz then accused Blinken and the State Department of repeatedly telling Israel "not to kill" Hamas terrorists, citing a tweet he said the department later deleted immediately after the Oct. 7 attack, calling on Israel "not to engage in military retaliation."

"Senator, I was in Israel five days after Oct. 7. I've been there seven times since. No one, starting with President Biden, has done more to make sure they have what they need to defend themselves from Hamas, to deal with the threat," Blinken said, as Cruz pushed back.

"That is simply wrong. … That is ludicrous," Cruz said, asking if the administration had cut off sending weapons to Israel.

Blinken denied the administration had cut off any weapons supplies, but Cruz began to press him on funding for Iran.

Cruz noted that Iran's oil production had increased since Biden had taken office, and that the nation had developed more "ghost" ships to circumvent the sanctions against it and ship the oil.

"This administration desperately wants a new Iran deal. You have been showering cash on Iran from day one," Cruz said, referencing what he said was the administration's "refusal to enforce oil sanctions."

"In a very real sense, this administration, you and President Biden funded the Oct. 7 attacks by flowing $100 billion to a homicidal, genocidal regime that funded those attacks," he added.

Blinken quickly hit back, calling Cruz's statement "profoundly wrong" and "disgraceful," to which the latter responded, "Why?"

"We have gone at Iran repeatedly with more than 600 sanctions applied against them," Blinken said.

"Why are they selling 10 million barrels a day compared to 300,000?" Cruz responded.

Blinken argued Iran was working hard to get around the sanctions, and that the administration was continuing to "go at them" every day despite the country being "determined" to sell more oil.

"They weren't determined when Trump was president," Cruz said.

Blinken faced criticism from the right and left during the session, with Republicans accusing the administration of failing Israel and Democrats

saying it’s doing too little to help civilians in Gaza.

Furious protesters interrupted Blinken as he began his testimony before the Democratic-controlled Senate Foreign Relations Committee. There were shouts that he has "blood on his hands," and Blinken flinched from a protester who approached him from behind waving a sign that said "criminal" before security officers carried her out of the room.

Earlier on Tuesday, US Ambassador to Israel Jack Lew reiterated that forging formal Israeli-Saudi relations as part of an emerging trilateral deal involving Washington would require a calming of the Gaza war and a discussion of prospects for Paleostinian governance.

"There’s going to have to be some period of quiet, I think, in Gaza, and there’s going to have to be a conversation about how do you deal with the question of the future of Paleostinian governance," Lew said.

"My view is that strategic benefit is worth taking the risk of getting into that conversation about. But that’s a decision that the government of Israel will have to make and the people of Israel will have to make," he told a conference hosted by the Israel Democracy Institute (IDI) think-tank.

The United States on Monday described as "near-final" a bilateral defense pact with Saudi Arabia. Once completed, it would be part of a broad deal presented to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to decide whether to make concessions — including committing to paving the way for a future Paleostinian state — to secure a normalization of ties with Riyadh.

Netanyahu had long promoted such a diplomatic prize, and in the months prior to Hamas
..always the voice of sweet reason...
’s October 7 massacre in southern Israel, was said to have been overseeing intensified efforts to clinch closer military and intelligence ties with Riyadh.

But, seven months into a war with Hamas bandidos Death Eaters in the Gaza Strip, whom Israel swore to eradicate following the October 7 terror onslaught, a ceasefire is elusive and Netanyahu has insisted that it is premature to discuss day-after Paleostinian rule.

"Of course, we want to expand the circle of peace. We haven’t been shy about this," Israeli government spokesperson Tal Heinrich said. "[But] any peace initiative that jeopardizes Israel’s security is not something that we see as real peace."

Despite the offensive actions in the north of Kharkiv region, the Russian army continues to attack in the Donetsk direction
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[LB] The intensity of hostilities in eastern Ukraine remains high.

by Ivanna Kapustyanska

Despite the fact that the Russian army has begun offensive actions in the north-east of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region, the intensity of Russian attacks in the east of Ukraine remains quite high.

This was reported by the British Ministry of Defense with reference to intelligence data on the X network.

According to intelligence, Russian troops continue to focus their offensive in the direction northwest of Avdiivka, carrying out attacks on a wide front on both sides of the E50 highway.

For Russia, the E50 route is the main line of communication between Russian-occupied Donetsk and the Ukrainian-controlled city of Pokrovsk, which is approximately 30 km from the current front line, but is likely to be a Russian operational target.

“Russian forces have likely achieved a number of small tactical successes over the past 72 hours, albeit likely at great cost. Russian attacks in this direction are probably aimed at creating a noticeable obstacle and dividing Ukrainian forces," the intelligence agency notes.

The British Ministry of Defense, citing sources from the Ukrainian side, reported that to the north of Bakhmut, in the area of the city of Siversk, the Ukrainian military reported heavy clashes with the Russian invaders on May 18 and 19, as well as shelling of Ukrainian positions in Bilogorivka, Verkhnyokamyansk and Dividers

According to analysts, the successes of Russian troops in this area remain extremely limited.

According to the General Staff, the Defense Forces continue to concentrate their main efforts in the Tavriy, Donetsk and Slobozhansk operational areas with the aim of disrupting the plans of the occupiers to advance in the Donetsk, Luhansk and part of the Kharkiv regions.

Army seizes truck carrying guns in Batroun after it catches fire
[An Nahar] A truck carrying oils went up in flames Monday in the Batroun town of Basbina after which it turned out that it was also carrying 304 smuggled pistols, the army said on Tuesday.

The guns were hidden above the engine along with a quantity of magazines, the army said in a statement, adding that it has arrested a number of individuals suspected of being involved in the smuggling operation.

"The army searched the other trucks that had arrived along with this truck aboard a ship to the Port of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
," the statement said, adding that no arms or contraband material were found in the other trucks.

A senior judicial source had told Agence La Belle France Presse on Monday that the truck belongs to a Paleostinian resident of the Mieh Mieh Paleostinian refugee camp in south Leb
...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
The source added that the guns arrived aboard a ship that came from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Most of them are in the defense lines of our units in the Pokrovsky, Kharkiv, Siversky and Kramatorsk directions. The defense forces of Ukraine are restraining the onslaught and resolutely repulsing the enemy's actions, according to the General Staff report.

12 combat clashes took place in the Kharkiv direction since the beginning of the day. Fighting continues in the Vovchansk and Staritsa districts. Russian aviation dropped guided aerial bombs on Vovchansk, Liptsi, and three at once on Bely Kolodyaz.

The situation remains under the control of Ukrainian units, our soldiers inflict fire damage on the enemy.

The total losses of the enemy in this direction are already 71 people and 14 units of weapons and military equipment. Among other things, the Russian BM-21 "Grad" anti-aircraft missile system was damaged.

In the Kupyan direction, the Russian invaders attacked our defensive lines nine times. Fighting continues in the areas of Sinkivka and Ivanivka settlements.

On the Siverskyi direction, the hostilities in the area of Belogorivka are not abating.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the number of combat clashes of the current day has increased to ten. Ukrainian soldiers continue to repulse the enemy assault in the area of the settlement of Klishchiivka. The enemy has no success.

In the Pokrovsky direction, battles are taking place in the directions of the settlements of Kalinove, Novooleksandrivka, Sokil, Umanske, as well as Progress. In total, the enemy tried to improve the tactical position 33 times. Ukrainian defenders respond harshly to the Russian occupiers.

At this time, the enemy lost here a total of 47 Russian invaders and 14 units of weapons and military equipment. In particular, the "Kub" air defense system and the MT-LB were destroyed, one tank and one heavy TOS-1 flamethrower system of the Russians were damaged. The sixth, and also unsuccessful, attempt of the invaders to advance in the direction of the village of Staromayorske was repulsed by our defenders in the direction of Vremivsk.

In the Dnieper direction, Russian terrorists launched air strikes in the Novoberyslav and Vesely districts, dropping three anti-aircraft missiles on each.

The rest of the directions do not have significant changes in the situation.

Since the beginning of the day, Air Force aviation, army aviation, and units of missile forces and artillery of the Defense Forces of Ukraine have hit a total of 16 areas of concentration of personnel of the Russian occupiers, two radar stations and one artillery system of the enemy.

Ukrainian soldiers keep the enemy under strict fire control. The command takes the necessary measures to allocate means of fire destruction.

Earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces informed that the enemy's assault actions intensified in the Kharkiv direction. In the Pokrovsky direction, the situation remains tense, but under the control of Ukrainian defenders.

In complete secrecy: Egypt altered the hostage deal terms before handing to Hamas - report
[JPost] Qatari officials have denied involvement with the altered deal, placing the blame squarely on Egypt.

Egypt altered ceasefire terms before handing agreements to Hamas, three anonymous sources told CNN News in a report published on Tuesday.

According to the report, Egypt changed the details of the deal submitted to the Hamas terrorist organization after it had been signed by Israel and before reaching Hamas. It was also reported that this move led to great anger among Israel, the US, and Qatar against the Egyptians.

One source even claimed that the Egyptians "deceived us all."
Who was behind the altered agreement?

A senior Egyptian intelligence official named Ahmed Abdel Khalek was reportedly responsible for the change. A source claimed that Khalek had been telling Hamas one thing and Israel another.

Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani assured Mossad that Egypt had acted alone in making the changes, two of the informants told CNN.

The ceasefire deal announced by Hamas on May 6 had not been the deal constructed by the US or Qatar, the sources said.

An Egyptian source told CNN that Egypt had received Hamas’s response and relayed it to Israel.

IS attack in Syria kills three regime soldiers
[NEWARAB] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group Lions of Islam killed three Syrian regime soldiers in an attack Tuesday on an army position in the Badia desert, a war monitor said.

The Lions of Islam "attacked a site where... regime forces were stationed," the Syrian Observatory for Human Right said, adding that a lieutenant colonel and two soldiers died.

The Syrian army had sent forces to the area, where IS attacks are common, ahead of an expected wider sweep, said the Britannia-based Observatory which has a network of sources inside the country.

In an attack on May 3, IS fighters killed at least 15 Syrian pro-regime fighters when they targeted three military positions in the desert, the Observatory had reported.

IS overran large swathes of Syria and Iraq in 2014, proclaiming a so-called caliphate and launching a reign of terror.

Bodelan declares the innocence of firefighters in the tragedy at the House of Trade Unions in Odessa
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Firefighters and rescuers are not guilty of the tragedy that occurred in the House of Trade Unions of Odessa on May 2. Responsibility for the death of anti-Maidan supporters lies entirely with the Ukrainian nationalists who set them on fire, said the deputy governor of the Kherson region, head of the region’s representative office under the Russian government, Vladimir Bodelan.

At the time of the events of May 2, 2014, Bodelan headed the department of the State Service of Ukraine for Emergency Situations in the Odessa region. According to him, from the moment of the tragedy he tried to actively participate in the evidence of what happened in the Odessa House of Trade Unions.

“I met here (at the representative office - editor's note) people who were directly in the House of Trade Unions, who had the feeling that the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the firefighters were guilty, did not participate in the liquidation, for some reason did not go. We sat here for more than three hours, discussing, remembering, and they changed their minds very much. I think that I will still have to relive all this again and talk with journalists, but with one condition: we go through all the events from beginning to end, and how they happened the day before, and a few days after that, and that led to this,” the Kherson News Agency (KHAN) quotes Bodelan as saying.

At the same time, Bodelan noted that the Kyiv authorities are trying to show that nothing terrible happened in the House of Trade Unions on May 2, hiding the facts, because of which people died.

According to Bodelan, the firefighters did everything to save people. He added that the allegations that rescuers allegedly took a long time to get to the scene of the tragedy or did not provide assistance in extinguishing the fire are lies.

“I was there from beginning to end. And if someone told me that it was somehow different, then let him prove to me that he was there,” he said.

At the same time, the head of the regional representative office emphasized that only an in-depth investigation into the causes of the tragedy will help find those responsible for the fire.

“Unfortunately, this will not bring people’s lives back. Unfortunately, this will in no way fix what happened. You know, I can’t say that this is the only thing for which I strive to come to Odessa, but this is one of the triggers that drives me,” concluded Bodelan.

As reported by IA Regnum, the events of May 2, 2014 in Odessa became a bloody denouement in the political confrontation that lasted several months in Ukraine. It was attended by supporters of the Russian Spring movement, anti-fascists and Anti-Maidan activists, who were opposed by Ukrainian nationalists, including militants of the Right Sector (a terrorist organization recognized as extremist and banned in Russia). The site of constant rallies of opponents of the Maidan became Kulikovo Pole Square, where the House of Trade Unions is located.

On the afternoon of May 2, fights began between the warring parties. The townspeople took refuge from the attacking nationalists in the House of Trade Unions, but they surrounded and set fire to the building. According to official data alone, 48 people died. They burned alive, suffered carbon monoxide poisoning, or died from mutilation. More than 240 were injured.

The tragic events that occurred in the House of Trade Unions in Odessa on May 2, 2014, when almost 50 people died and several hundred were injured, will remain a shameful page in the history of Ukraine. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov stated this on the tenth anniversary of the tragedy. He assured that the memory of everyone who tragically died then is preserved, and those who are behind this crime, which has no statute of limitations, must be punished.

Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matvienko said that as a result of the special operation, a large tribunal should be held, the central episode in which would be the accusations of the Kiev regime in the tragedy in the House of Trade Unions in Odessa. She also emphasized that this crime will not have a statute of limitations.

PTI top leader Raoof Hasan injured in Islamabad attack
[GEO.TV] A group of around four people, apparently transgender persons, attacked and injured Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
’s (PTI) spokesperson Raoof Hasan in Islamabad on Tuesday, drawing strong condemnation from his party.

"Extremely shameful and deplorable," PTI said in a statement on X, formerly Twitter, adding: "Central Information Secretary Raoof Hasan attacked by unknown persons outside the office of a private channel."

It is, however, unclear why did the persons attack the politician.

In the video shared along with the statement, Hasan could be heard asking people to call the doctor, with injuries and blood seen on his face as he walked into a building.

PTI, in another statement, said if the spokesperson of the "largest party" can be attacked in the federal capital in broad daylight, then "what can we make of the safety of others".

According to the CCTV footage of the incident obtained by Geo News, Hasan can be seen being attacked by a group of apparent transgender persons, who used a sharp object as well.

The footage shows Hasan was interrupted by an apparent transgender person while he was walking on the side of a road, subsequently, the attacker engaged in conversation with the PTI leader for a few seconds.

After a brief conversation, the PTI chief spokesperson tried to take a few steps back, seemingly sensing danger.

However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
the attacker grabbed the PTI leader from his collar and along with three other apparently transgender persons began thrashing him. The attackers were only dispersed after the intervention of a passerby.

The footage also shows a person filming the entire incident. It is not clear whether the attackers were really transgender persons or they were guised as transgender persons.

Later, while talking on Geo News' programme Capital Talk, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar condemned the attack and called for a detailed investigation into the incident.

A member of the Democratic Party (naturally), Johnson previously worked as a social studies teacher in the city's stellar public schools system. He helped organize the 2012 teachers strike. ABC 7 / Chicago Sun-Times reported the one fatal shooting occurred Saturday about 11: 30 p.m. There was an argument and two of the people involved whipped out a rod and opened fire. Two men—one 50 years old and the other 44 years old—were shot, as well as a 27-year-old woman.

The 44-year-old was holding a handgun but dropped it after being shot. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

Breitbart News reported at least 21 people were shot during the weekend of May 10-12, 2024, and three of those shooting victims shuffled off the mortal coil.

In Chicago, as in all of Illinois, residents must get a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card in order to legally own a gun. The process for getting the card involves an in-depth background check by the Illinois State Police.

Other regulations in effect in Chicago include the statewide "assault weapons" and "high capacity" magazine ban, a 72-hour waiting period on gun purchases, a red flag law, and more. Moreover, Cook County, where Chicago is located, has its own "assault weapons" ban.

Despite all the gun control, the Sun-Times pointed out that 170 people have been killed in Chicago since January 1, 2024.

Fifth Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine added to line-up at Naval Base Point Loma
[SD UT] The USS Greeneville on Monday was added to the stable of Los Angeles-class, fast-attack submarines that are homeported in San Diego Bay as part of Submarine Squadron 11.

Naval Base Point Loma now has five of the nuclear-powered submarines, which are regularly sent on deployment to the Indo-Pacific, sometimes to help protect carrier strike groups based in San Diego.

Greeneville operates with a crew of roughly 155 sailors and is capable of firing land-attack Tomahawk cruise missiles that travel upwards of 900 miles.

Greeneville — which bears the name of Greeneville, Tennessee, the home of Andrew Johnson, the nation’s 17th president — was commissioned 28 years ago, making it one of the oldest submarines in the Navy. It recently finished a 30-month engineering overhaul at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine.

"(Our) crew has demonstrated their professionalism and resilience in safely bringing Greeneville to our new home," Commanding Officer Chad Tella said in a prepared statement. "I could not be more proud of each and every crewmember."

Egypt's relationship with Hamas: What does history tell us? - analysis
[JPost] October 7 deeply impacted Egypt, however, Cairo has not appeared to excoriate Hamas for the attack, leaving questions about how this all transpired.

As the IDF pushes deeper into Rafah they are finding tunnels and dismantling Hamas terrorist infrastructure. The offensive in Rafah was opposed by Egypt before it happened, however there have been less statements since it actually began. There remains a lack of clarity about Egypt’s overall position today and also what may have transpired in the years leading up to October 7.

It's important to begin the process of understanding how Hamas became so powerful prior to the October 7 attack. How did it stockpile so many weapons? Where did the weapons come from? Hamas manufactures many types of rockets locally, but it also acquired RPGs and other types of systems that appear to have been trafficked from abroad.

In the past Hamas smuggled weapons using tunnels in Rafah that went to Egypt. It was widely believed these tunnels were dismantled years ago. There is also a crossing between Egypt and Gaza called the Rafah crossing. Ostensibly this was only for approved types of aid entering Gaza. Israel maintained a blockade of Gaza for many years to prevent weapons entering. However, weapons did enter. In fact, Gaza may have been one of the most heavily armed places per capita in the world on October 6. If it was under blockade, how did this happen.

EGYPT'S ROLE
There are going to be a lot of questions asked in coming months about Egypt’s role here. Egypt and Israel appeared to have relatively warm ties prior to October 7. Egypt’s government is opposed to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas has origins in the Brotherhood. Egypt also opposes terrorism. Therefore many would have concluded that Egypt opposes Hamas. However, it is less clear now what Egypt’s role has been.

.., The Abraham Accords and the Negev Summit and other trends in the region were supposed to be toward regional stability. This meant Egypt was supposed to benefit through peace and stability. Why would it allow Hamas to start a huge war? The only reason Egypt may have been lured into thinking Hamas was contained was due to Doha and Ankara, and other moves in the region. Egypt may have been told to go soft on Hamas and in exchange Turkey and Doha and others wouldn’t back the Brotherhood anymore inside Egypt.

'We were all duped' | Report: Egypt changed terms of Gaza ceasefire deal
[IsraelNationalNews] Egyptian intelligence quietly changed the terms of a ceasefire proposal that Israel had already signed off on earlier this month, ultimately scuttling a deal that could have released hostages and Palestinian Arab prisoners, and set a pathway to temporarily end the fighting in Gaza, CNN reported on Tuesday, citing three people familiar with the discussions.
Hamas was never going to agree anyway — they’re just marking time until a divine — or American or Iranian — thumb presses down on the scales, forcing Israel to surrender.
The ceasefire agreement that Hamas said on May 6 it had agreed to was not what the Qataris or the Americans believed had been submitted to Hamas for a potential final review, the sources told the network.

The changes made by Egyptian intelligence, the details of which have not been previously reported, led to a wave of anger and recrimination among officials from the US, Qatar and Israel, and left ceasefire talks at an impasse.
They were at an impasse anyway. Egyptian perfidy just gave Hamas a propaganda point for the Jew-haters of the world.

'The border guards shot at us.' The border Tisa turned into the River Styx
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Kirill Velesov

[REGNUM] The Ukrainian Border Service, in a mocking tone, reports several times a week: the body of another unknown man, probably a draft dodger, was caught in Tisza. Another Ukrainian, who was found in a knee-deep river on May 20, drowned just ten meters from the Romanian shore. It is the eighth since the beginning of May, and the thirty-first since the declaration of martial law and the closure of Ukrainian borders in February 2022. And this is only official data. The Tisza, which originates in the very west of Ukraine, in the Transcarpathian region, and flows into the Danube in Serbia, has actually turned into a household analogue of the mythological Slavic river Smorodina, along which souls go to the world of shadows. Or to the more famous River Styx, which in ancient Greek mythology separates the world of the living from the world of the dead.

Chapt 11 for Red Lobster
[MarketBeat] "Bankruptcy is a word that is often misunderstood. Filing for bankruptcy does not mean we are going out of business," Red Lobster wrote. "In fact, it means just the opposite. It is a legal process that allows us to make changes to our business and our cost structure so that Red Lobster can continue as a stronger company going forward."

----------
Chapter 11 is for reorganization. Chapter 7 is for liquidation.
Part of Red Lobster's problem is the 'all the shrimp you can eat for $20' special since a lot of people can eat a lot of shrimp.

#1  ...Two interesting details here:

First, during a reorganization, RL's parent company bought the land under each RL...then leased it back to the restaraunt. That way, no matter how bad the economy was, there was a steady income stream from every single site. Tough luck for the franchisee, though.

And the $20 shrimp helped do 'em in, but not the way you'd think: one of RL's owners is a Thai fishing company...which was making them buy their shrimp at a fairly substantial markup. This meant that even though the $20 shrimp was RL's best selling meal, they were losing money on every plate because they couldn't source cheaper shrimp.

Good thing I'm not smart enough to understand business. ;)

Former commander of the 58th Army Popov was arrested on suspicion of fraud
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Former commander of the 58th Army of the Russian Armed Forces, Major General Ivan Popov, was arrested on suspicion of fraud, Kommersant reports.

The decision to arrest was made by the 235th Garrison Military Court, which is located in Moscow, the material says.

According to some reports, the court considered the investigation’s petition on May 17 and arrested Popov for two months. The criminal case is being investigated under the article of fraud committed by an organized group on an especially large scale. Popov and his accomplices, according to some information, sold metal received as part of humanitarian aid, intended for the construction of engineering structures of the 58th Army of the Russian Armed Forces.

Popov commanded the 58th Combined Arms Army in 2023. Previously, he was the chief of staff of the 22nd Army Corps of the Russian Armed Forces in Crimea and the chief of staff of the 11th Army Corps of the Russian Armed Forces in the Kaliningrad region.

As Regnum reported, on April 24, the court arrested Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov on charges of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale. According to the investigation, Ivanov, having entered into a criminal conspiracy, received property benefits from contracting and subcontracting work for the needs of the military department. The Deputy Minister of Defense did not admit his guilt in committing the crime.

On May 20, the Department of the Investigative Committee for the DPR announced the detention of the mayor of Yenakievo, Roman Khramenkov, on suspicion of fraud and receiving a bribe on an especially large scale. The detainee, after receiving a bribe from an entrepreneur, contributed, in particular, to the extension of a lease agreement for real estate owned by the city administration, the Investigative Committee said.

General Popov is suspected of selling metal structures for defense

Major General Ivan Popov is suspected of theft and sale of metal structures intended for the construction of fortifications of the 58th Guards Combined Arms Army of the Russian Armed Forces, Kommersant reported on May 21.

Presumably the metal structures were supplied as part of humanitarian aid. Popov illegally sold 2 thousand tons of metal structures intended for the construction of defensive structures. The amount of damage is estimated at about 100 million rubles, the Shot Telegram channel said. At the same time, Popov’s colleagues do not believe the version of the security forces. The soldiers are convinced that the general could not steal from his own people. According to them, he “jumped into the trenches with ordinary privates.”

As Regnum reported, Ivan Popov commanded the 58th Combined Arms Army in 2023. Previously, he was the chief of staff of the 22nd Army Corps of the Russian Armed Forces in Crimea and the chief of staff of the 11th Army Corps of the Russian Armed Forces in the Kaliningrad region.

House Speaker gives Schumer an ultimatum on Netanyahu
[IsraelNationalNews] House Speaker Mike Johnson has presented Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer with an ultimatum: Join his letter inviting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address Congress, or the House will move ahead with an invitation on its own, The Hill reported on Tuesday.
*Snicker* Hardball politics.
Johnson told reporters that his office notified Schumer’s staff the day before that if the Senate leader does not sign the draft invitation for Netanyahu by Tuesday, he will proceed with inviting Netanyahu to address just the House.

The Speaker, however, noted that he would invite senators to attend the speech.

"My office told Senator Schumer’s office yesterday that he needed to sign the joint letter, and if not, we were gonna proceed and invite Netanyahu just to the House, and I’ll send individual invitations to senators," Johnson said, according to The Hill.

On Tactical Nukes. The Russian View
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

[VK] 05.21.24. A note from the Military Informant channel.

Usually, when a conversation begins about the possible combat use of nuclear weapons, many people immediately begin to imagine pictures of vast territories, where dosimeters begin to make loud noise, and people quickly die from radiation sickness, etc. But what if we look at reality?

The USA and USSR have accumulated a large amount of data on explosions of various nuclear devices of different powers under different conditions. Therefore, it is possible to reliably simulate the radiation consequences of the use of any nuclear weapon. For example, destroying some particularly strong underground target, the task is simple.

Let's assume that we are simulating the consequences of the arrival of a "Dagger" with a nuclear warhead on some General Cloutier in a bunker somewhere in the thickness of the Carpathian rocks. Fortunately, everything was done before us and a long time ago.

We open the American work "Countering Proliferation, or Compounding It?" and look at the schedule for nuclear bombs to destroy bunkers. The principle is the same, it will do.

Vertically, the contaminated area in which, within 48 hours, a person continuously outside sealed capital buildings or protective structures will receive a dose level of 150 Rem (Roentgen equivalent man - the Russian analogue is the Biological equivalent of X-rays, Rem) or higher. 100-200 rem received in a short period of time is the dose at which a mild form of radiation sickness usually occurs.

Horizontal depth of charge detonation. And three graphs of the dependence of the contamination area on the depth: for charges of 0.3, 1 and 10 kilotons (kt), respectively. The maximum area of such radioactive contamination at 0.3 kt is only 10 sq km, for 1 kt no more than 30 sq km, and for 10 kt less than 170 sq km. These are maximum, and at the same time, still very moderate numbers. And very far from apocalyptic expectations.

At the same time, over time, radiation levels in the area quickly decrease: 7 hours after the explosion, the dose rate decreases by 10 times, after 49 hours - by 100 times. This means that this small area of pollution that is significant for health is also rapidly decreasing.”

Embattled District Attorney Fani Willis trounces Democratic rival in Georgia primary election
[NYPost] You get the trash you vote for
Nathan Wade “shook” revelers at Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ primary election victory party Tuesday when he strolled into the event “all smiles.”

Wade, the former special prosecutor whose love affair with Willis resulted in him being forced to resign from the historic criminal case against former President Donald Trump, was among those gathered at an event space in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood to celebrate the district attorney’s landslide win.

The 52-year-old prosecutor’s victory over attorney and author Christian Wise Smith comes as she faces multiple investigations launched by state and federal lawmakers over her alleged misuse of taxpayer money and relationship with Wade.

“We can’t keep turning a blind eye to what’s going on in that office,” Wise Smith argued on the campaign trail Monday.

“Chaos. Corruption. It’s time for us in Fulton County to stand up and take our justice system back,” he said in his plea to voters.

Willis, who was first elected to head the Atlanta-area DAs office in 2020, saw her profile dramatically rise after leading the historic criminal investigation and subsequent indictment of former President Donald Trump over his alleged involvement in a plot to overturn the Peach State’s 2020 election results.

Willis made no references to the Trump case in a recent three-minute-long campaign ad, in which she touted going after “gangs and violent offenders.”

“We’ve seen the third largest crime drop in America,” she claimed in the campaign spot.

Dar arrives in Bishkek to take up Pakistani nationals' concerns after mob violence
[GEO.TV] Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday arrived in Kyrgyzstan's capital Bishkek to discuss the "concerns" of Pak students who among other foreign nationals suffered mob attacks by locals last week.

The visit comes as Pakistain has ramped up evacuations of its students from Bishkek after violent mostly peaceful mobs of locals targeted foreign nationals last week, with over 800 pupils returned to the country so far.

At least five Pak students suffered injuries in the attacks triggered by a brawl between Kyrgyz and Egyptian students, prompting mob attacks on hostels of medical universities and private lodgings of international students, including Paks, in the city.

After reaching Bishkek, FM Dar held a detailed meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart Kulubaev Zheenbek Moldokanovich.

Mali court jails professor for criticizing government
[AFRICANEWS] A court in Mali has sentenced economist Etienne Fakaba Sissoko to two years in prison, with one year suspended, for criticizing the military junta in his book.

Sissoko’s lawyer, Ibrahim Marhouf Sacko, announced the verdict and plans to appeal.

Sissoko, a professor at the University of Bamako, faced charges of harming the state's reputation, defamation, and spreading misinformation for his 2023 book on government communication during Mali's transition.

THE BOOK
According to reports, the book critically examines the military government’s use of what it terms propaganda, manipulation and even lies to influence public opinion, particularly during the promised "transition" period leading back to civilian rule.

The junta missed their initial deadline of March 2024 for a return to democracy, with no new date set.

Subsequently, at the May 6 hearing, Sissoko defended his work stating his use of factual evidence and expert analysis.

THROWBACK
This isn’t his first run-in with the authorities. In 2022, Sissoko, formerly an advisor to the ousted president, spent months in jail for criticizing the government’s stance on Christmas celebrations and questioning the validity of his academic credentials.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
Sissoko’s lawyer suggests the real trigger for his recent imprisonment was his public commentary on the economic impact of sanctions imposed on Mali by neighbouring West African nations.

BACKGROUND
Mali has been grappling with political and security instability since 2012, facing attacks from krazed killers, gangs, and a separatist movement in the north.

Cameroonian expelled from Russia for supporting rebels in Syria and Ukraine
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] A citizen of Cameroon, who participated in an ethnic criminal group and was identified by officers of the FSB Directorate for the Belgorod Region, was ordered by the court to be expelled from Russia. The regional FSB press service reported this on May 20.

“The illegal activities of a citizen of the Republic of Cameroon, a resident of the city of Belgorod, who took part in the activities of an ethnic criminal group involved in inciting ethnic hatred,” the message states.

According to the FSB, the Cameroonian worked at construction sites in the Valuysky urban district. The man is a supporter of radical Islam and has repeatedly expressed support for terrorist groups operating in Niger, as well as in support of rebels in Syria and Ukraine.
Cameroon’s population is about 30% Moslem. Groups in Niger and Syria could be ISIS. Where Ukraine comes into the mix is a puzzler…
In addition, a citizen of Cameroon lived in Russia in violation of the rules of stay. By decision of the Valuysky District Court, the foreigner was brought to administrative responsibility for violating the rules of entry into the Russian Federation. The Cameroonian was sentenced to administrative expulsion from Russia in the form of forced departure.

Earlier, Regnum news agency reported that Ukrainian student Sergei Gulko, previously expelled from Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) for nationalist publications and attempts to raise money for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, will be expelled from Russia.

At the end of April, Sergei Gulko, a sixth-year student at the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine of Moscow State University, was arrested in Moscow. A Ukrainian citizen who lived in a university dormitory on Lomonosovsky Prospekt was imprisoned for supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine and disobeying the police. The Nikulinsky court of the capital found the young man guilty of public display of Nazi symbols and sentenced him to 12 days of arrest.

Previously arrested for collecting money for the Ukrainian army, former student Gulko was unable to leave for Georgia after being ordered to leave Russia. According to him, Georgia denied him entry without explanation.

Israel accuses AP news agency of violating a controversial media law then backpedals
[AFRICANEWS] Israel’s communications minister ordered the government to return a camera and broadcasting equipment it had seized from the The News Agency that Dare Not be Named, reversing course hours after blocking the news organization’s live video of Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
The government seized the AP equipment from a location in southern Israel after accusing it of violating a new media law by providing images to the satellite channel Al Jazeera.

Israeli officials used the new law on May 5 to close down Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
-based Al Jazeera within Israel, confiscating its equipment, banning its broadcasts and blocking its websites.

After Israel seized the AP equipment, the Biden administration, journalism organizations and an Israeli opposition leader condemned the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and pressured it to reverse the decision.

"As soon as we learned about the reports, the White House and the State Department immediately engaged with the Government of Israel at high levels to express our serious concern and ask them to reverse this action," said Adrienne Watson, a spokesperson for the National Security Council.

Israel’s communications minister, Shlomo Karhi, said late Tuesday (May. 21) on the social platform X: "I have now ordered to cancel the action and return the equipment to the AP."

Karhi said the defense ministry will undertake a review of news outlets’ positioning of live video of Gaza. Officials hadn’t previously told AP the positioning of its live camera was an issue. Instead, they repeatedly noted that the images appeared in real-time on Al Jazeera.

Al Jazeera is one of thousands of AP customers, and it receives live video from AP and other news organizations.
Wouldn’t it be fun if Israel expelled all AP stringers, staff, and freelancers?
Courtesy of badanov, a Google-translated Regnum article adds:
According to the AP, the Sderot office was ordered on May 16 to stop broadcasting a general view of the northern Gaza Strip, but staff refused. On May 21, in the afternoon, employees of the Israeli Ministry of Communications arrived at the agency’s office, seized the equipment and interrupted the broadcast. Representatives of the AR were given a notice of violation of the law on foreign broadcasters, certified by Israeli Minister of Communications Shlomo Karya, since the AR's live broadcasts are used by the Qatari TV channel Al Jazeera.

“The Associated Press condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli government's actions in shutting down our long-running live broadcast of Gaza and confiscating AP equipment. The shutdown was not caused by an information component, but by the Israeli government’s abuse of the new law on foreign media broadcasting,” said Lauren Easton, a spokeswoman for the American agency, in a statement.

Easton appealed to Israeli authorities to return the equipment and restore broadcasting.

Thousands of Iranians surround late president's coffin as 5-day mourning starts
[AFRICANEWS] Thousands of Iranians began gathering Tuesday (May. 21) for 5 days of public mourning.

A vehicle driving slowly through the northwestern City of Tabriz, carried the bodies of late president Ebrahim Raisi, the Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the governor of Iran’s East Azerbaijan province, a senior holy man, a Revolutionary Guard official and three crew members.

Tabriz is the closest major city to the site of Sunday's helicopter crash that killed all eight men.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...>
, who has the final say in the theocracy, named, as the law provides, the first vice president as interim leader.

He expressed condolences to the families of victims

The presidential election is set to be held on June 28.

The government on Monday announced an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
has offered no cause for the crash. The helicopter fell in mountainous terrain in a sudden, intense fog.

After processions across the country, the late president is set to be buried at his birthplace (Mashhad), on Thursday (May.23).

Raisi, 63, was viewed as a protege of Khamenei.

The president's body would be transferred to his birthplace Mashhad, where his funeral will be held on Thursday.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei expressed condolences to the families of victims.

RSF accused of killing 18 in two-day assault on Al Jazirah area
[SUDANTRIBUNE] A group affiliated with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out a second day of deadly attacks in the area of Takina, Kamleen locality, Al Jazirah state, killing at least 18 people and injuring many more.

Residents of the central Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
state regularly report widespread violations including killings, arrests, forced displacement, and looting. Further, the RSF, which has controlled the state since December 2023, has been accused of terrorizing local communities and exploiting communication blackouts to their advantage.

Musab Takina, a resident of Takina, recounted the events to Sudan Tribune, stating that the violence began on Monday when RSF forces arrived searching for fuel. Unable to find any, they opened fire on civilians, killing 11.

The following day, the RSF returned with reinforcements, using heavy weaponry against residential areas and killing an additional seven people.

Musab denies the RSF’s claims that locals were armed with military-grade weapons, stating that any firearms used were personal and for self-defence.

As a result of the violence, over 30,000 residents have been forced to flee.

In a released audio recording, RSF commander in Al Jazirah state, Abu Aqla Keikel, claimed he was responding to reports of troublemakers but was met with heavy fire.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the RSF has consistently denied responsibility for the violence, blaming unidentified troublemakers, Islamist brigades, and security agencies for committing crimes in their name.

Jurassic Park of the village of Shestakovo. Russia turned out to be the birthplace of dinosaur runners
Direct Translaiton via Google Translate. Edited.
by Aleksandr Khramov

[REGNUM] The Siberian village of Shestakovo has every reason to become a tourist dino park. Like other Russian locations that gave the world a whole scattering of dinosaurs, with relatively small investments they can turn into powerful points of attraction for domestic tourism. And the recent discovery on the banks of the Kii River, where a new dinosaur was discovered, only once again proves this statement. In an article recently published in the British journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, St. Petersburg paleontologists Alexander Averyanov and Pavel Skuchas, together with their Kemerovo colleagues, described the long-legged dinosaur Kiyacursor longipes, which at the beginning of the Cretaceous period rushed around Kuzbass like an ostrich.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Smotrich says Israeli army should occupy south Lebanon if Hezbollah doesn't withdraw
[NAHARNET] Israel should not shy away from launching a military takeover of southern Leb
...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
if Hezbollah does not withdraw from the border, far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said.

Speaking at a faction meeting of his far-right Religious Zionism party held, unusually, in northern Israel, Smotrich demanded that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu make a clear announcement of a plan to deal with Hezbollah’s threat, saying that if necessary, Hezbollah must be dealt with through military action.

"A public ultimatum must be issued to Hezbollah that they completely stop firing and withdraw all forces to beyond the Litani River," said Smotrich.

Promoting a plan reminiscent of Israel’s security zone in southern Lebanon in the years following the 1982 invasion, Smotrich warned: "If the ultimatum is not fully met, the IDF (Israeli army) will launch an assault deep in Lebanese territory to defend the northern communities, including ground entry and Israeli military takeover of the southern Lebanese area."

"The way to bring the (evacuated) residents home to the north is through a military decision with a devastating assault on Hezbollah, its infrastructure and the destruction of its power," he said.

Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli military posts along the border on a near-daily basis, with the group saying it is doing so to support Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
amid the war against Hamas
..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
there.

In response, Israel has threatened to go to war to force Hezbollah away from the border if it does not retreat and continues to threaten northern settlements, from where some 70,000 residents were evacuated to avoid the fighting.

International efforts including by La Belle France and the U.S. to resolve the matter through a diplomatic solution have so far failed, as Hezbollah has maintained it will not enter into any tangible discussions with Israel until there is a ceasefire in Gaza.

The Grand Turk
Circassian community was not allowed to hold a rally on the main street of Istanbul
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The action to mark the end of the Caucasian War and the expulsion of the Circassians from their historical homeland is taking place in Istanbul under enhanced security measures. Activists were not allowed to hold an action on the main street of the European part of Istanbul, where the Russian Consulate General is located.
“You may not upset our new friends, the Russians, who already tried to wipe you out once, and are displeased that you still exist.”
As the "Caucasian Knot" wrote, on May 20, residents of Kabardino-Balkaria honored the memory of the victims of the Caucasian War on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of its end. They gathered in Nalchik at the Tree of Life monument. Today a rally took place in Nalchik, the participants noted that it is important, while preserving the memory of their ancestors, to learn lessons from history and  think about future generations. Today, on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Caucasian War, ceremonial events dedicated to its end were held in Adygea, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia and the Krasnodar Territory.

The Caucasian War, which lasted from 1763 to 1864, brought the Adyghe peoples to the brink of extinction. After the war and the mass deportation of the Circassians to the Ottoman Empire, a little more than 50 thousand people remained in their homeland. The Russian authorities have not yet made a decision to recognize the genocide of the Circassians during the war, according to a certificate from the "Caucasian Knot".

About five hundred representatives of the Circassian community of Turkey gathered today in the center of Istanbul in the area of Istiklal Street, not far from the Russian Consulate General on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the expulsion of the North Caucasian peoples, most of whom were Circassians, from their historical homeland, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from the scene..

The participants, Circassian activists, members of Turkish political parties and ordinary residents of Istanbul came to the “Day of Remembrance and Sorrow” action with flags in their hands. Some participants came with flags of the Mountain Republic, the Republic of Adygea, and the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria*.

The event began with a prayer for those who died in the Caucasian War and during the expulsion of the Circassians. On the installed monitor, video chronicles are broadcast, reproducing historical events of the period of the Caucasian War and the expulsion of the Circassians.

According to various estimates, up to 1.5 million Circassians were expelled from their historical homeland, about 400-500 thousand of them died on the way to the Ottoman Empire, TRT TV channel reported today. The Circassian community in Turkey numbers at least 5 million people; the Circassians themselves estimate its number to be approximately 8 million ethnic Circassians.

After the rally, at which patriotic songs are heard and activists speak, its participants intend to carry a funeral wreath with the inscription: “160 years of the Circassian genocide” to the walls of the Russian Consulate General, which is today cordoned off by several rows of metal fences and police cordons.

In recent years, the action of the Circassian community has been held on the outskirts of Istiklal Street, which during the coronavirus pandemic was motivated by the authorities for reasons of epidemic safety, but after several years the Circassians were not allowed back into the main historical street of the European part of Istanbul, where diplomatic missions of many countries are located, including Russian.

Circassian activists explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the change in the attitude of the authorities is associated with the position of the Russian diplomatic mission and the Russian Foreign Ministry, which consider the actions of the Turkish Circassians to be hostile and harmful to bilateral relations.

Increased security measures are in place at the site of the rally, dozens of police officers and special equipment have been deployed.

Adygs  (Circassians) is the general name of a single people in Russia and abroad, divided into Kabardians, Circassians, and Adygeis. May 21 is celebrated annually as the Day of Remembrance of the Circassians, according to the certificate of the "Caucasian Knot".

Participants of the rally in Cherkessk honored those killed in the Caucasian War

The day of the end of the Caucasian War is an occasion to remember the ancestors who died for the sake of the lives of future generations, participants in the rally in Cherkessk told the Caucasian Knot. The authorities should help the Circassians who want to return to their historical homeland; this will help preserve the language and culture, they believe.

A meeting in memory of the victims of the Caucasian War took place today on the outskirts of Cherkessk, near the monument to the Victims of the Caucasian War of 1763-1864. Several hundred people gathered there, they held green Circassian flags with arrows, red Abaza flags with a palm, one could see the flags of Abkhazia, as well as the flags of Karachay-Cherkessia and Russia. Some participants wore national costumes.

Chairman of the People's Assembly of Karachay-Cherkessia Alexander Ivanov, Chairman of the Government of Karachay-Cherkessia Murat Argunov, deputies, social activists, and representatives of the clergy addressed those gathered at the rally. In particular, at the very beginning of the event, the qadi of Karachay-Cherkessia Muratbiy Laipanov read a dua.

The entire event consisted of speeches by officials and representatives of public organizations, a minute of silence was also announced, after which those present laid flowers and wreaths at the monument and dispersed. All this took about an hour.

Three participants in the rally, on condition of anonymity, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they came to the rally "from work" and did not give comments. Only one of them noted that “employees of schools and kindergartens” came to the action.

The memory of those who died in this terrible war must always be honored

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent managed to talk with several local residents who came to the rally of their own free will. “I came here to honor the memory of those who died in the Caucasian War 160 years ago,” said  Renat  Shevkarov, a resident of Cherkessk. “I am very glad that everyone came here to honor the memory just like me, the memory of those who died in this terrible war must always be honored,” he added.

“I came to honor the memory of my ancestors, to celebrate the end of the 101-year war that year, 160 years ago,” said Muradin  Fizikov, who came to the event with a Circassian flag. He clarified that he goes to events on May 21 every year. "It is important to know your history, to know the past. Without this there will be no future," he added.

Another local resident,  Askhad, said that if possible, work allows, he always comes to the events on May 21. “This day is a day of mourning for our ancestors who died in the war. We must pay tribute to them, show respect, honor their memory. Thanks to them, we now live, our families, our children,” he recalled.

Local resident  Aslan  came to the rally with his son of primary school age, who had a Circassian flag in his hands. “For us, Circassians, this is a day of mourning, and we came to honor the memory of our ancestors. For us, this is a tradition - and it is important to pass on these traditions, khabze, to our children,” he emphasized.

Our people were tortured, torn apart, destroyed, and I believe that we need to remember this

A rally participant named  Zahual also said that he came to honor the memory of his ancestors, and noted with regret that if everyone were like him, there should be thousands of people here, but this is not the case. “Our people were tortured, torn apart, destroyed, and I think that we need to remember this. Some people may not give a damn, but I don’t. I remember this and tell my children. We are not against Russia, but we must think about those who, because of those events, found themselves scattered across more than 50 countries. There are those who would like to return to their historical homeland. But now our nation is divided in many ways, and I do not exclude that. under such conditions, the nation will disappear, the language will disappear,” he lamented.

A 17-year-old  resident  of Cherkessk  came to the rally of his own free will and in a national costume. “I really honor the memory of my ancestors and love my culture, and I wear our national costume to any event,” explained the high school student. “Today is a day of mourning, and we go to rallies to show that we honor the memory of our ancestors and are proud of them, their exploits, what they did for us to live now,” the young man added.

Anzor  Nashev, who came to the rally with a Circassian flag, considers it obligatory for himself to attend such rallies. “Today we are in mourning, May 21, I am Circassian by nationality, and it is my duty to be here. This is the memory of our ancestors who fought, so that we can live today. I wish not only the Caucasus, but the entire Russian Federation, that we were united like one fist," he added.

Let us remind you that May 21, the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Caucasian War, is officially declared a non-working day in Adygea, Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia, where the Circassians are the titular nation. In 2023, the authorities of Kabardino-Balkaria banned  events on May 20 and 21 in memory of the victims  of the Caucasian War, threatening liability for violating the ban. In Nalchik, events were held to mark the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Caucasian War, including a procession through the streets of the city that was not permitted by the authorities. The participants of the actions considered it important to preserve Adyghe traditions.

#1  The comment by Zelensky at 21:56 about the Russian S-300 implies that Russia uses these not only as a weapon against aircraft but as an all purpose offensive weapon.

Could that be true?

#2  Certainly possible, but the warhead, designed for proximity fragmentation against a relatively soft flying target isn't going to do huge damage against a ground target harder than a typical passenger car.

And it's a very expensive platform to deliver that kind of hit.

FBI authorized the use of deadly force at Mar-a-Lago — Armed FBI agents were preparing to confront Trump and even engage Secret Service if necessary.

#1  The FBI appears to be run by Corruptocrats and staffed by drones.

And there doesn't appear to be much daylight between them and the Capitol Police.

A purge is long overdue.

#7  Just a thought. How do you think the Secret Service will consider the FBI after this becomes known, presuming it already hasn't been made known. I foresee up-gunning in the near future. What a mess. I read a sci-fi book series where this happened, and the ramifications that resulted. No service could ever consider another service as not hostile. The April series by Mackey Chandler.

Geagea warns of Hezbollah-Bassil agreement on 'mediocre president'
[An Nahar] Lebanese Forces
A Christian political party founded by Bashir Gemayel, who was then bumped off when he was elected president of Leb...
leader Samir Geagea
....Geagea was imprisoned by the Syrians and their puppets for 11 years in a dungeon in the third basement level of the Lebanese Ministry of Defense. He was released after the Cedar Revolution in 2005....
has noted that "the presidency is a Lebanese issue par excellence," calling on MPs to "shoulder their responsibilities, especially the parliament speaker."

"We are awaiting the visit of French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian to Leb
...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. "I’m not very optimistic, but the five-nation committee (for Lebanon) must continue its work through pressing the Axis of Defiance to stop its obstructive role," Geagea added.

The LF leader also stressed that the committee in its latest statement "did not call for a (Speaker Nabih) Berri-style dialogue, but rather for consultations in the vein of what the Moderation bloc had suggested."

"These consultations have been ongoing since the beginning of the presidential vacuum, but they are facing obstruction from the Axis of Defiance due to the latter’s inability to secure the election of its candidate Suleiman Franjieh," Geagea added.

The LF leader also claimed that "there are under-the-table contacts, especially between (Free Patriotic Movement

chief) Jebran Bassil and Hezbollah, that might lead to an agreement on a mediocre president."

"We will do everything necessary to prevent the election of this candidate on whom Bassil and Hezbollah will agree," Geagea vowed.

Syrian first lady Asma al-Assad diagnosed with leukemia, president's office says
[NEWARAB] Syrian first lady Asma al-Assad has been diagnosed with leukemia, the office of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Despoiler of Deraa...
announced Tuesday.

The president's wife was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia "after presenting with several symptoms and following a comprehensive series of medical tests and examinations," the statement said.

She will "adhere to a specialised treatment protocol that includes stringent infection prevention measures" and "will temporarily withdraw from all direct engagements" as part of the treatment plan, it added.

Acute myeloid leukemia is an aggressive cancer of the bone marrow and the blood.

Asma al-Assad has previously been treated for breast cancer. In August 2019, she announced that she was "completely" free of the disease a year after her diagnosis.

Born and raised in the United Kingdom, although her family is originally from central Syria, the first lady is a powerful and divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
figure. She is under western sanctions and has been a highly controversial figure in the course of the 13-year Syrian conflict.

She was an investment banker before quitting to marry the then-newly minted President Bashir al-Assad, in 2000. She has since maintained a public role, promoting civil and charity groups, but has been accused of using her British education and Western style to try to mask the brutality of her husband’s crackdown on dissent.

South Sudan rebel leader threatens withdrawal from Kenya-mediated talks
[SUDANTRIBUNE] A South Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese rebel leader has threatened to withdraw from participation in the Kenyan-mediated peace talk, citing the alleged presence of government operatives assigned by political rivals to assassinate him.

In a letter addressed to the Kenyan high-level mediation for South Sudan, Gen. Stephen Buoy Rolnyang asked that his team be allowed to return to their base.

Gen Rolynyang is the Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of South Sudan People’s Movement/Army (SSPM/A), a rebel movement fighting to overthrow Kiir.

The 20 May letter is addressed to the chief mediator, Gen. Lazaros Sumbeiywo.

Citing security concerns, the (SSPM/A) claimed he got intelligence that a team allegedly sent by Kiir’s security advisor, Tut Gatluak is in Kenya to assassinate him.

"On 16/5/2024, the Juba security agents employed Kenyan agents wearing dark glass eyes and came to the Ole Sereni hotel where they kept hiding near the hotel toilets in the evening carrying some pictures in their hands definitely which might be my picture. I noticed them and I returned to my room and immediately alerted the security. I reported it to you the following morning in the meeting hall which Hon. Makuei Lueth refuted in front of everybody," partly reads the letter.

17:31 Telegram channel "Fisherman":

Bakhmut direction: battles in Kleshcheevka.

In addition to the assault on high-rise buildings in the Kanal microdistrict in Chasov Yar, Russian troops went on the offensive in Kleshcheevka. Fighting for it has been going on since last summer, when most of the village was abandoned by the Russian Armed Forces, and the settlement itself found itself in the “gray zone.”

After the enemy transferred some of the units to the Slobozhanskoye direction, apparently, the Russian Armed Forces had the opportunity to advance in the Kleshcheevka area to the southeast of Chasov Yar.

Today, footage of a Russian tank, equipped with an improvised “barbecue”, driving through the entire village appeared. Despite attacks by FPV drones, the vehicle successfully reached the southern outskirts of Kleshcheevka and returned to its original positions in the north.

Objective monitoring footage also confirms the presence of Russian forces in the center of the village near the destroyed Holy Protection Church: most likely, the main units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces retreated to the dominant heights to the west.

At the Andreevka-Kurdyumovka line there have been no significant changes in the situation over the past few months. Recently, the Russian Armed Forces hit an HMMWV armored vehicle of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Russian assault groups regularly carry out raids in the village. During one of these, they managed to reach the southern outskirts of the village and take several Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers prisoner. At the same time, there is no need to stay for long, since the village is in a lowland, and the forest to the southwest remains under enemy control.

16:57 Statements by representatives of the North, West, South, Center, East and Dnepr groups on the progress of the special military operation (as of May 21, 2024) –video.

15:25 Special military operation. Situation on May 21 –map.

14:17 Enemy for the first half of the dayconfirmsloss of positions in Volchansk and in the western part of Netailovo. Conversations about stabilizing the front in Volchansk, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces supplemented with two days ago, remained just talk.

12:53 Statement by the head of the press center of the Dnepr group -video.

Units of the Dnepr group of troops defeated the personnel and equipment of the 65th Mechanized, 141st Infantry, 128th Mountain Assault brigades, as well as the 108th Territorial Defense Brigade in the areas of Stepnoy, Stepnogorsk, Rabotino and Novopokrovka.

An enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group on Pereyaslavsky Island was destroyed.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' losses amounted to up to 30 military personnel, a tank, nine vehicles, a 152mm 2S3 Akatsiya self-propelled artillery mount, and a 152mm D-20 howitzer.

12:01 Reported about complete control by our troops over the village of Belogorovka.

During the liberation of Belogorovka, they managed to capture captured NATO-made small arms and missile weapons.

11:42 Statement by the head of the press center of the “West” group -video.

Units of the West group of forces continue to carry out combat missions in the special military operation zone.

As a result of active actions, the group’s motorized rifle units improved the tactical position and defeated manpower and equipment of units of the 63rd Mechanized Brigade, as well as the 1st Operational Brigade in the Chervonaya Dibrova and Kuzmino areas.

The enemy lost up to 60 military personnel, a tank, an armored personnel carrier, three cars, a 152mm D-20 howitzer, and a 122mm 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery mount.
