Roscosmos May Supply Components for Iranian Satellites
Russia's Roscosmos space corporation might receive an order for the supply of components for Iranian satellites, Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media Nikolai Nikiforov said Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Nikiforov and Iranian Minister of Communication Mahmoud Vaezi met in Moscow and discussed a number of issues.

"Iran is very interested in the experience of the Russian space program, including in the sphere of communication. Indeed, my colleague [Vaezi] has repeatedly talked about the interest in the use of Russian satellite technology. This is being discussed with the Roskosmos corporation. The Russian satellites constructors have a very good chance of getting the orders and the contracts for Iranian projects. I know that the negotiations are on the way. It necessary to wait for the results," Nikiforov told Rossiya 24 news channel.

Vaezi is currently on an official visit in the Russia capital, where he is also expected to meet Russian Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov as well as Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak.
All peaceful use, you understand....

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Did Albert Einstein Steal The Theory Of Relativity From His Wife?
No.
Did Albert Einstein steal the work on relativity from his wife? originally appeared on Quora: the knowledge sharing network where compelling questions are answered by people with unique insights.

It is an extraordinary claim, and as such, requires evidence. Einstein scholars (notably John Stachel and Robert Schulmann) have spent a lot of time and effort clarifying the sources of the allegation which as far as I can see, boils down to two claims:

1. That Abram Fedorovich Joffe, a member of the Soviet academy of Sciences and an assistant to Röntgen from 1902 until 1906, saw the original manuscript of the relativity paper, Zur Elektrodynamik bewegter Korper, and that this manuscript was signed "Einstein-Marity." And "Marity" is a Hungarian variant of the Serbian "Marić," Mileva’s maiden name. So, the claim goes, Mileva Marić Einstein’s name was on the original manuscript, but was then left out of the published article, where Albert Einstein’s name appears alone.

2. That on March 27, 1901 Einstein wrote a letter to Marić that included the clause "... bringing our work on relative motion to a successful conclusion." Note the "our," which implies that the work was done in collaboration.

200 million Yahoo passwords being sold on the dark web?
If you don't know what Yahoo's two-step security is, now would be a good time to figure it out. Google has it for G-Mail, too.
A notorious cybercriminal is advertising 200 million of alleged Yahoo user credentials on the dark web, and the company has said it is "aware" of the hacker's claims, but has not confirmed nor denied the legitimacy of the data.

On Monday, the hacker known as Peace, who has previously sold dumps of Myspace and LinkedIn, listed supposed credentials of Yahoo users on The Real Deal marketplace. Peace told Motherboard that he has been trading the data privately for some time, but only now decided to sell it openly.

When a hacker advertises a huge horde of login details for sale there are often more questions than answers:

• How many (if any) of the credentials are legitimate? There may be 200 million-or-so being sold, but that doesn't mean you'll be able to break into 200 million accounts.

• What is the origin of the data? Has the data been collected through phishing attacks? Or Has the data been collated from the mega breach of another online service (like LinkedIn or MySpace), and just evidence that yet again folks have made the mistake of reusing passwords?

• Are the credentials for current accounts or for old, stale accounts that may have been closed down or had their passwords changed long ago?

• Is there any evidence of a security breach at Yahoo that could have resulted in login credentials spilling out? (This would be most worrying, but thankfully seems least likely)

Not all of these questions are necessarily easy to answer with absolute certainty.

But what is clear is that your Yahoo account will be a lot safer if you have enabled two-step verification and have learnt to never reuse passwords.

If you're not being sensible about your online security, take appropriate steps now to harden your Yahoo account. Because even if this current scare ends up not impacting your account, there is always the danger that you could become a victim in the future.
Maybe someone at the NSA doing a little work on the side? Maybe some brute-force attacks?

Israel Develops a Highly Protected APC to Replace Thousands of M-113 POS 'Tin Cans'
Israel's Ministry of Defense unveiled today the first prototype of the Eitan, a new 8×8 armored personnel carrier developed by the Ministry's Tank Development Program Directorate (Mantak), as a possible successor for thousands of American-made M-113 Armored Personnel Carriers (APC) Israel has been operating since the 1970s. The new APC is said to be more protected, efficient and affordable than foreign off-the-shelf alternatives, and would be available at half the cost of the Israeli Namer Infantry Carrier Vehicle (ICV).
BTW, "namer" is Hebrew for "tiger", I think.
The Israeli prototype is based on a proven automotive system, with an operationally proven powertrain that has been adopted by several armed forces in Europe. According to the head of Mantak, Brig. General Baruch Mazliah, using commercially available automotive components enabled the designers to develop an APC that will cost half as the tracked Namer, and less than similar wheeled APCs available in the world market. The hull was developed in the country, along with the weapon systems, survivability and protection systems used. According to Mazliah, the need for a wheeled armored vehicle such as Eitan evolved from lessons learned in recent combat operations in Gaza. The Eitan complements the Merkava and Namer, as it can transport infantry squads on roads, without relying on tank transporters. Eitan has a maximum road speed of +90 km/h (56 mp/h).

Similar to Merkava and Namer, Eitan does not rely only on ballistic armor for protection but uses a combination of survivability systems for to enhance the survival of the crew, passengers, and the entire vehicle. Designed for a gross vehicle weight of up to 35 tons (77,000 pounds), Eitan provides sufficient base protection for common battlefield threats. Using the Trophy Active Protection Systems (APS), the vehicle can effectively avoid high-level threats without proportionally increasing the weight of its armor. To protect the occupants from blast effects, of mines and IEDs, Eitan has been designed with protected, relatively high floor. The tyres are fitted with runflat inserts meaning they can continue to function even after suffering multiple hits. The passive protection provided by modular armor is applied to the vehicle's front and sides, while equipment modules add to its security. The vehicle will be initially produced at the Israel MOD AFV plant, at an annual production rate of several dozens of vehicles, as is the case with the Namer ICV.

The vehicle is designed as a common, modular platform that can be configured into different variants by replacing hull modules. Variants typically include APC and command vehicles equipped with remotely operated .50 Cal machine gun, and weapon carriers, to be fitted with remotely operated turrets mounting 30/40mm automatic cannon. The turret will also have accommodation for several missile launchers. The prototype shows clean surfaces enabling relatively uninterrupted 360-degree coverage for the weapon station and APS.

A crew of three ‐ commander, gunner and driver operate the vehicle. Each of the crew members has an individual, role-optimized operation position, seat and access hatch. The vehicle is designed to carry a full squad of nine troops in its fighting compartment. Troops can access and egress via the rear ramp door.

Eitan is different than other 8×8 APCs designed for NATO forces, in its suitability to the unique operational conditions of the Israeli forces. While most 8×8 APCs evolved from lighter platforms, the Israeli APC was designed from scratch for 30-35 tons, which is the upper limit of similar designs. All 8x8s are designed for similar roles ‐ they are designed as modular, role configurable platforms, in a weight range of 18-30 tons, each carrying 8-11 troops.

#2  The M-113 is not armored. I should know.

An AP round from a M2 or a 0.51 soviet heavy machine gun doesn't even slow down to admire its work.

The best thing to say about the 113 is that you can circle the wagons and have a fighting perimeter that will deflect the 7.62 x 59 or the 0.223...not much else.

Oh and they will keep out the sun to prevent sunburn and if you shut the upper hatch it will keep the rain off of you.

#6  The M113 was designed to get infantry to the battle quickly and keep them mostly protected against artillery/mortar splinters/shrapnel and light arms.

It did do that quite well.

As for protecting the occupants against hostile incoming fire from heavy machine guns and pretty much anything else... 'twasnt it's job.
Posted by: DarthVader || 08/02/2016 16:38 Comments || Top||

#7  I'm here to say that after an exchange of mortar rounds and other niceties with our short friends from north of the DMZ, my entire company of M-113s could possibly whistle like a steam calipee in a high wind. Not to mention bomb fragments from daisy cutters dropped to keep the little bastards off our necks.

We liked the extra .50s that having tracks gave us compared to regular leg infantry and we liked having 4.2 mortars but everything else about a 113 was it came with everything but a bullseye.

U.S. attorney opens probe of CT Governor Malloy’s 2014 campaign fundraising
A federal grand jury with the power to subpoena documents and compel testimony is trying to do what state elections regulators could not: Resolve whether the Connecticut Democratic Party and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy broke the law in soliciting contributions from state contractors for his re-election in 2014.

Citing unnamed sources, The Hartford Courant first reported the existence of the criminal investigation Friday and the issuance of subpoenas. Thomas Carson, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, declined to comment, but the state Democratic Party acknowledged the investigation and pledged cooperation.

The Connecticut Democrats agreed in mid-June to pay a record $325,000 over 27 months to resolve a State Elections Enforcement Commission investigation of a complaint filed in 2014 by Romano's predecessor, Jerry Labriola.

Connecticut bars state contractors from donating to state campaigns, while federal law dictates the rules for raising and spending money that is used for get-out-the-vote efforts in federal election years, when state elections are also held. Contractors can give to federal races and to the party's federal account.

Essentially, candidates, campaigns and political parties operate under two sets of contradictory campaign financing rules: one provides public financing to candidates who agree to accept donations of no more than $100 and abide by spending limits that vary by office; the other allows state parties to accept maximum donations of $10,000 a year and spend unlimited amounts supporting their candidates. Malloy benefitted from both systems. The governor and party officials have declined to talk about how they targeted companies who do business with the state for campaign contributions.

Labriola complained that Malloy and the Democratic Party were subverting the voluntary public financing program, which requires participants to abide by limits on spending and accept contributions of no more than $100. The Democrats claimed that not only did federal law permit the use of the federal account to pay for get-out-the-vote efforts that benefitted Malloy, but that the federal law required it.

The Democrats were fighting an investigative subpoena issued by the commission for emails, bank records and other documents, arguing that federal campaign law pre-empts the investigation. At the time of the proposed settlement, a Superior Court judge was poised to rule on the commission's motion to compel the party to abide by the demand for documents.

The dispute began over an obscure mailing late in the 2014 gubernatorial campaign, but it quickly escalated into a legal battle with potentially dire consequences for Malloy, the state party and the authority of the commission. The federal investigation is a major political complication for Malloy at time when he is in the spotlight as chairman of the Democratic Governors Association and a campaign surrogate for Hillary Clinton.

BREAKING: Smoking Gun Surfaces, PROVES Hillary Clinton Broke Federal Law!
[Political Insider] Julian Assange and Wikileaks are about to drop the biggest bomb yet on Hillary Clinton. Assange is confirming that he has details that shows Clinton knew the US was sending military arms from Libya to Syria in 2011, a full year before the terrorist attack in Benghazi.

This means Hillary Clinton was heavily involved in the arming of jihadists, including ISIS.

However, in sworn testimony before Congress, Clinton lied and claimed she didn't have this information. This hearing took place in 2013:
Interesting I suppose, but I'm not sure what difference if any it will make. They clearly own the legal system.

#3  So there was a "Fast and Furious" operation going on in Libya and Syria? That possibility appeared on Rantburg right after Benghazi. After the email disaster and hall pass given by the DOJ and Comey, I'm not optimistic. The most that might come of it is a perjury charge down the line sometime in 2018 or never. What are they going to do; impeach her after she gets elected? Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind that. There is the Clinton Foundation and the election rigging in the primaries. The email thing might come back in the DOS. I think the DOJ is completely compromised and has little to do with justice. #10  This was common knowledge just after the Ambassador was killed. It was reported for a few days on Fox that Stevens was running guns to Syria and one or more rebel groups was displeased. IIRC, Stevens was withholding weapons from the same group that attacked the Benghazi post. He ran the guns from Benghazi.
Since it was previously was reported on the news, I imagine that Clinton will skate by again.

#12  not sure if this is true, but, to this day it is not clear why the US kept the Benghazi consulate open after other nations had closed theirs and also to this day it is not clear why the Ambassador was in Benghazi

the reason the consulate security was minimal is presumed to be because increasing security would make the locals suspect that the CIA operation there was actually a CIA operation but there is no explanation of why a contingency security augment was never developed (or whether it was developed and not initiated)

we will not find out answers to these

#14  I think The 'Burg had 2Fast2Furious gun running from the get go, question was who?

My default has been Syria/Iran/Russia axis, in that order, as at the time there was the Big Pitch to arm McCain's Heroes to topple Assad and hoist another Mo Bro into power as well as put pressure on Israel.

I think that they new about the International Day of Rage and Death to America! Bake Sale, and figured something(s) may happen, so the main press push would be the video. Once they pushed that rock, it rolls till it stops.

So when it became apparent to people who don't get their news from a dog's ass that this was a hit, and the administration starting throwing more chaff, I started thinking this was no I Hate Americans hit.

I mean, we are on the ol' campaign trail here. Kind of awkward to waddle about Vegas Baby! lookin' the part if, theoretically, Syria hired some local hard boyz to snatch the Ambassador et al to trace the rocket walking across the Team Not Assad exchange routes - and retaliating against Assad would spark open conflict with Russia and Iran so what do you do? Can't do that, Russia is busy straw purchasing uranium for Iran, why old bean that is bad for business.

So you do nothing except hope everyone dies quickly and quietly, obstruct the rescue, no air support, and have more lies than a golf tournament.

Just my thoughts, and open to new info.

#3  I liked the article on 'why we hate you' (pg 30-33), a sample quote from the 6 reasons,

"...1. We hate you, irst and foremost, because you are disbelievers; you reject the oneness of Allah – whether you realize it or not –,... It is for this reason that we were commanded to openly declare our hatred for you and our enmity towards..."

It should be cited in every discussion because it refutes the leftist narrative so completely.

Do you simply destroy the facility with everyone in it (including the daycare) and salt the ruins, or monitor all ingress and egress(people, deliveries, electronic communications, etc.), perform the link analysis then eliminate the control nodes?

I guess I swat the mosquito biting me, AND oil the cistern.

#6  ISIS Magazine Targets Christians

Doesn't everyone these days? There's a Christian book store here in town that was closing one of its stores. They called our left-leaning newspaper and said they wanted to place an ad about their closing-out book sale. The newspaper rep said they couldn't place the ad as written because it had an offensive word. When asked what on earth could be the offensive word, they were told the word "Christian" was offensive. The newspaper printed an apology the next day.

They want us all bent over, asses presented, 5 times a day.

(Anyone else suspect that when Mohammed instituted that practice, he insisted on being in the back of the room?)

-Lurid Crime Tales-
MSNBC's Joy Reid Shouts Down Guest for Saying that 33,000 of Hillary's E-Mails Are Missing
Excerpt [PJ Media] Reid could not believe her ears.

REID: Nope, hold on. You can't just invent things! You can't just invent things.

KREMER: I'm not inventing anything!

REID: You just invented it an entire thing! The FBI has already come out with a report on Hillary Clinton e-mails and what you just said is invented thing!

KREMER: What?

REID: There’s no 33,000 e-mails that are going to harm our national security. You know that there was an entire year and half investigation!

From there the show devolved into chaos as Reid shouted down Kremer whenever she spoke. "No, ma’am! No, Ma’am! You cannot invent things. You cannot say things -- You’re putting out incredibly inflammatory information."

No matter how "utterly bored" Reid may be with it, FBI’s Director Comey's statements prove Clinton lied to the public about her e-mail procedures. Comey also said they were only able to obtain roughly half of, "the reportedly more than 60,000 total e-mails remaining on Secretary Clinton’s personal system in 2014."

Home Front: Culture Wars
The Daily Bread of Tradition
[Daily Beacon] We live in an age of skepticism, and there is nothing more vulnerable to the skeptic than everyday human experience. Tradition and cultural inheritance, which shape human experience, are especially subject to doubt. One need only observe the decline in church attendance and in the number of married women under thirty in Britain, France, and the United States to understand that doubting tradition and custom is more fashionable than embracing them.

Doubt closes us to the fullness of human experience by rendering us aloof or apart, like a child who wants to go swimming but hovers, afraid, at the water’s edge. This doubt is regrettable because on the other side of some seemingly mundane, instrumental activities lies transcendent meaning. Rather than doubting everyday human experience, embracing that experience allows for deeper immersion into it.

Take eating. The skeptic will scrutinize the ceremonies surrounding the meal and wonder whether the fare is actually good for the diner. By focusing on such questions, he misses the pleasure of conversation, the tasty morsels in front of him, the fact that passing food from one diner to another is a form of intimacy that facilitates friendship, and the peace of soul contained in thanking God or gods at the beginning of the meal.

Everyday human experience, its depth, and its connection with the sacred has been a major theme of Sir Roger Scruton’s work. The philosopher has written many works on features of human experience--architecture and music, sexual desire, community and country, custom and land, whiskey and wine. Through experience of these things, human beings approach what is highest and best. And since the principles of each of these things are passed down from generation to generation, doubting the cultural inheritance we receive in traditional institutions such as the family, the town, and the school is a mistake. The seed of doubt closes young people off from both their cultural inheritance and what is highest and best in human experience.

#1  Sheriff Clarke's deputies report that Sheriff Clarke is getting a huge number of death threats for having the audacity to speak out. The anonymous threats likely from folks that believe the attached Southern Poverty Law Center propaganda in this article.

The SPLC attacks the Sheriff for promoting the truth that most people see the Sheriff as the lead LE officer in their community...because the office of the Sheriff is the most responsive elected official to their needs...on call 24 hours a day, will protect and serve as needed, will listen to their complaints (no matter their standing in society) and can be hired or fired by the people every 2-4 years.

As opposed to...say the FBI...or an other centralized three letter agency/bureaucracy.

The Wrath of Khan…
A cultural conflict between these who understand elementary statistics and these who emote.
Or "So Absolute Moral Authority is a Thing Again Now?"

We haven’t really been wasting too much time on the subject of candidate Trump’s apparently insufficient worshiping at the feet of the Khans, but still. Let’s see if we get this right.

The Khans had a son who died in The Long War 12 years ago. The Khans are muslim. Therefore Trump is a horribly racist bigot because he’s concerned about muslim terrorists since obviously, their son gave his life for this country and, therefore, all muslims are American Patriots who can do absolutely no wrong.

Did we get that just about right?

Sounds an awful lot like Saint Cindy of the Ditch.

But he won't because he is a classless toad with no sense of honor.

#4  I had to sit through eight whole minutes of the ABC World News last night about how Trump is such a bad, bad man for suggesting that Pakistan is full of Islamofascist nut cases who should never be allowed into this country. So Captain Khan served our country with honor. I'm sick of hearing about it. Big fucking deal, OK? I still don't want any more of those miserable people coming into my country.

Pakistan is the country that threatens India with terrorism and nukes. This is the country that prevents polio vaccine from being administered to its children. This is the country that gave safe haven to Osama bin Laden and countless other terrorists who hate us and want to kill us.

BTW, eight minutes is an extremely long time for a single subject on a 23 minute nightly network newscast. It is terrifying when you understand how fully in the bag for Hillary the MSM is. There is no objectivity, no fairness, no balance and yet people sit and watch it and absorb what can only be classified as propaganda (or bullshit) without even thinking about it. #10  #1 Let's be clear. This was a response to Trump's absurd proposal to ban ALL Muslims from traveling to the US.

Let's be even more clear. Trump said we should stop importing Muslims until we can get a handle on vetting who they actually are. The media, being Dem operatives, turned this into "Trump Sez Ban Muslims" and repeated it so often everyone knows it is true.

It's that subtle difference between "We should shoot dogs with rabies" vs "We should shoot dogs". One is a great sound bite. One might be a good idea.

An extensive round-up of surveys of Muslims in America and elsewhere. Fascinating reading. Not really a surprise to anyone who has been paying attention, but nice to have all in one place when someone suggests vetting those who would like to come here. #19  Getting a little vile??? So break it down. This Muslim's son joins the Army, gets killed. Fact. His father is a Wahhabist and worked in soddi promoting sharia law. He also worked in the US promoting Sharia law and scamming Visa's, fact. He is tied financially to the Clinton foundation, fact. I kinda doubt this Wahhabist was supportive of his son killing muslims. So now he platforms using his sons death to try and drive the muslim vote toward Hillary, who voted for the war his son was killed in. Trump was very vocal against it. The hypocrisy of the whole speech he gave is still ringing. I honor gold star families. But when they drag their dead kids into the streets for political favor, they lose my respect. This guy was a rube, during his speech he had his wife behind him and silenced, not next to him as any husband would do with a grieving wife. Any other American would have had his arm around his wife, she did not speak because she is property and not entitled. Trump read it right. And to your spittle Depot Guy, we always have the families back, until they dishonor the soldier ands his death, which is what the family did. Toad? Really? This is exactly why Hillary brought that sharia law loving guy on TV, to cause confusion and divisiveness. You have fallen for her PR expertise...

#20  Contrary to Mr Trump's assertion, Mr Khan does have the "right" to criticize him. Especially an asinine proposal that that targets a single religion. Of course, Trump is equally free to respond. And a true leader would have taken the high road with a Gold Star family. But not Trump...nope he thinks selling real estate and hiring employees is of equal sacrifice as a family losing a son defending his liberties. Nope, Trump is so thin skinned that he has to insult the mother because she chose not to utter a spoken word. Some obviously view Trump's compulsion to "counter punch" (expecially the family of a fallen soldier)as strength. Others, such as myself, perceive his behavior as an indication of insecurity...perhaps clinical narcissistic. I find it interesting that a man can insult his supporters (shoot someone) and they continue to defend his reprehensible actions. Apparently some folks actually prefer crony capitalist buffoons. Who knew?

The U.S. Blew $1.4 Billion on Abstinence Education in Africa
h/t Gates of Vienna
That is the amount of money the U.S. spent over a 10-year period from 2004 through 2013 promoting abstinence before marriage as a way of preventing HIV in 14 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Unfortunately, according to the most comprehensive independent study conducted to date of the effort, the money was more or less wasted. A rigorous comparison of national data from countries that received abstinence funding under the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) with those that got none of the funding showed no difference in the age of first sexual experience or in the number of sexual partners or teenage pregnancies--all aspects of behaviors that have been linked to a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV.

Leaked Text Messages Demonstrate Mosby's Bad Faith
h/t Instapundit
Leaked text messages between one of Marilyn Mosby’s deputies and the lead investigator in the Freddie Gray case raise new concerns about Mosby’s honesty and good faith in deciding to charge six officers with Gray’s death. The leaked messages reportedly suggest that the prosecutors planned to charge the officers regardless of what the evidence showed.
The cover of magazines oftentimes reveal their content without having to actually turn a page.
This is Baltimore, so the odds of the Democratic prosecutors being punished is about zero...

#1  Brady violations (prosecutorial misconduct) most likely occurred during this set of trials. Certainly incompetence was the rue of the day as well...

Overcharging to the point that PC does not meet the elements of the criminal charge sought equates false arrest, suppressing exculpatory evidence that indicates their evidence...this is not over...maybe the officers will get justice via civil remedy, because the DoJ certainly won't look for civil rights violations against the DA's office.

#2  The underlying problem with civil remedy as I understand it is that the taxpayers will be the bearer of any award to the officers. Israeli company shows interest in making Trump's US-Mexico border wall a reality
[Jpost] An Israeli company credited with building the defense barrier that crowns the Gaza Strip has signaled its interest in helping construct a controversial border wall proposed by US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, according to a report published by Bloomberg News Tuesday.

Sa'ar Koursh, owner of Magal Security Systems Ltd., told Bloomberg in an interview last month that his expertise in constructing security barriers in Israel and across the globe could help bring the candidate's proposal into reality.

"We would join forces with a major US defense company that has experience with such projects worldwide," said Koursh, who spoke to Bloomberg while accompanying Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Africa on a diplomatic mission in early July. "We’ve done it in the past and we would definitely want to do it."

Forget the politics. Hillary Clinton is entirely compromised by foreign governments
[Hot Air] Sadly, the future is no longer so bright that you’ll have to wear shades. (Unless SMOD makes its long overdue arrival, of course.) As you ponder your choices for the presidency, I would suggest taking a look at this column at the Washington Examiner from our friend Hugh Hewitt. You may recall that Hugh has had his own share of complaints about Donald Trump, while not being part of the remnants of the #NeverTrump movement. But this week he offers a few important reminders as to why he’s still going to vote for The Donald.

The first portion of it will be old hat to most of you on both sides of the Great Donald Debate and it’s the inescapable subject of the Supreme Court. I won’t dwell on that one here today because we’ve been through it before. If your conservative principles are such that you can argue in favor of allowing Hillary Clinton to pick a generations long majority for the nation’s highest court there’s no sense in talking to you anyway. But Hugh then delves into a second subject which gets far less play. All of the news about recent hacks of Democratic data with the promise of more to come should lead us to one conclusion which is yet to be proven, but seems unavoidable. Various foreign agencies are already in possession of a treasure trove of Hillary Clinton’s most closely guarded secrets, leaving her completely compromised on the national stage.

Hillary Clinton is thoroughly compromised by the Russians (or the Chinese, or the Iranians, or all of them). Deny the testimony of expert witnesses like former CIA Acting Director Mike Morell or Rudy Guiliani if you want, or the implications of the distribution of DNC emails via the WikiLeaks front, but just know everything she sent and received on her security-free "private" server is in the hands of the bad guys.

The influence they will have over her and all of her cyberassociates as a result will be complete even if unknown to the folks being worked and watched.

That’s espionage. The Russians are very good at it. They are a GEICO ad of spying: That’s what they do. They use what they steal to advance their national interest, sometimes crudely, sometimes with breathtaking sophistication. The consequences of her complete compromise haven’t sunk in yet, but it is real, not reversible, and dangerous beyond description to the national security of the U.S.
As Hugh notes, there’s more than a little hand wringing among Trump’s detractors over his presumed relationship with Vladimir Putin, but that pales in comparison to the fact that Hillary Clinton may already be Putin’s pawn. It’s not just the revelations about the DNC’s machinations against Bernie Sanders we’re talking about here. That material was embarrassing, but it’s still simply the ugly sausage making which goes on behind the scenes in American politics. Far more concerning are the assurances of Julian Assange that the next tranche will be a treasure trove of documents on the Clinton Foundation. He’s made good on his threats so far, so why would we doubt this particular promise? Given the billions of dollars which have been changing hands between that foundation and questionable figures from Saudi Arabia, Russia, China and God only knows where else, who knows what’s hiding under the covers? And if this is just the material which some hacker picked through and turned over to Wikileaks, you can rest assured that the actual cyberspooks from Russia, China and elsewhere already have their hands on the full package.

Placing the future of the country in the hands of someone who is almost certainly compromised to this degree is the definition of insanity. You may have your doubts about Donald Trump and more than a few questions about what he would do in office or how he might impact the future of conservatism or what have you. But you don’t need to have any doubts about Clinton. That’s a disaster waiting to happen. The choice is yours.

FBI employee pleads guilty to passing information to China
[Guardian] An FBI electronics technician has pleaded guilty in New York to acting as an agent of China and passing along sensitive information to a Chinese government official.

Kun Shan Chun, also known as Joey Chun, faces up to 10 years behind bars when sentenced by a federal judge on 2 December, US prosecutors said.

He was arrested in March, having worked for the FBI for nine years and getting top secret security clearance in 1998.

Chun, 46, confessed to collecting sensitive information and allowing it to be passed on to a Chinese official in exchange for financial reward and concealing that relationship from the FBI.

#3  John Schindler:

That the FBI allowed Chun to be arrested may be a positive sign, however, since I personally know of previous examples where suspected Chinese moles inside our Intelligence Community were allowed to resign, never to face charges of any kind. In one notorious case a few years back, a Chinese-American mole was uncovered in an FBI field office, indeed caught red-handed. But the employee was allowed to quit and walk away, scot free, since the FBI had no stomach for a messy spy scandal coupled with the inevitable claims of “racial profiling” that follow the arrest of any Asian-American suspected of spying for Beijing.

That Chun now faces a few years of prison may be an indication that, at last, our government is getting tough about the rising problem of Chinese espionage against the United States, which is a good thing. Let’s see how the Department of Justice handles the next accused Chinese mole, who’s sure to come along sooner rather than later.

Pat Caddell on ‘Cooked' Reuters Poll
[Breitbart] "They not only changed their formula, to put Hillary ahead. They went back and changed the results, for a week of results where Trump was ahead, and then they turned those into Hillary leads," said Caddell. "They also erased all the former polling off the site. They didn’t tweak their procedure ‐ they cooked it."

"Never in my life have I seen a news organization, and a supposedly reputable poll, do something so dishonest," Caddell continued. "What they have done is, they decided the people who said, ’oh, I’m never for someone’ ‐ oh, those must be Hillary votes. They used to be Trump voters."

"They made a switch, as much as nine points, in their results from the beginning of last week, the 25th and 26th. It is, beyond doubt, the most outrageous thing," he declared, noting that results in three- and four-way polls that include independent candidates Gary Johnson and Jill Stein were also skewed.

"This is what the media is willing to do, to try to elect her," Caddell said. "This poll is nothing but a part of a media offensive. In the 45 years since I was a child, in top-level presidential campaigns, I have never seen the media on such a jihad, and so involved in hiding facts, and not following up. This is a crisis of democracy, what the press is now doing."

The Dems hope to have the Pubs and Independents stay at home. The rallys that Bernie had were huge as were Trumps. Hillary has trouble filling a small gymnasium most of the time. Does anyone really think the polls are not cooked?

Turkey post-"coup" roundup: Tuesday August 2nd
Erdoğan’s economy adviser hopes Moody’s, Fitch give Turkey fair rating
In which the Erdogan regime again attempts to put the infidels in their place.
[Hurriyet] International rating agencies Moody’s and Fitch will tarnish their own reputations if they declare negative ratings for Turkey’s economy, the chief economic adviser to Turkey’s president told Anadolu Agency on Aug. 1.

Cemil Ertem’s comments came after Moody’s announced on July 18 it would review Turkey’s rating for a possible downgrade following the July 15 failed coup attempt.

Turkish Cyprus joins clampdown on Gülenist groups
No nook or cranny left untouched, no matter how small.
[Hurriyet] Turkey is cooperating with the Turkish Cypriot government to clamp down on groups linked to Fethullah Gülen, the U.S.-based Islamic scholar accused of being behind the July 15 failed coup bid, the Turkish ambassador said on Aug. 1.

Gulenist cleanse launched in Turkish Football Federation
A corruption conviction is erased by blaming Gulen pique.
[Hurriyet] The TFF also said it shared information with relevant state institutions about all its employees, competition organizers and the chairmen and members of its 11 affiliated boards.

Yıldırım was first sentenced to jail in 2012 and fined 1.3 million Turkish Liras ($560,000) for forming a criminal group and engaging in match-fixing during the 2010-2011 season. He served around one year behind bars before being freed pending a retrial.

The Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court later issued a unanimous ruling that acquitted Yıldırım.

“Aziz Yıldırım was annoyed by a friend’s remarks over Gülen during a plane trip. Then, that friend told the issue to Gülen, who got angry with this. This is why the rigging operation was launched. They did not want Yıldırım’s negative thoughts about Gülen to be dominant in the largest club in Turkey,” Gülerce said.
And the most important thing:
Meanwhile, a three-month state of emergency will not affect Turkish football matches, TFF President Yıldırım Demirören said last week.

Coup attempt cost Turkey’s economy $100 billion: Trade Minister
Good. There should be a cost for going full fascist, scapegoat and all.
[Hurriyet] This amount may however increase when more detailed calculations are made, he added.

“When we consider all those warplanes, helicopters, weapons, bombs and buildings, the cost is 300 billion liras at minimum according to our prior calculations. The exact cost may likely increase when the detailed calculations are made. There will also be various costs in the medium-term. For instance, many orders from abroad have been canceled. Many foreigners have halted their Turkey visits. The coup plotters have unfortunately created a Turkey image as if it were a third world country. People who see tanks in the streets and the parliament bombed will not come to Turkey. All of these create costs in the medium-term,” Tüfenkci said in a meeting with a group of journalists in Ankara.

Turkey captures 11 involved in bid to seize Erdogan during coup attempt: Media

[AlAhram] Anadolu said the runaways were caught in the Ula district of Mugla province after gendarmerie special forces, supported by helicopters and drones, were sent to the area after a tip-off from a local.

Gunfire broke out as the Special Forces clashed with the runaways, but there were no reports of any casualties.

Dozens of protesters gathered and jeered outside the gendarmerie outpost where the commandos were first held before being taken to a cop shoppe in the area.

A total of 37 soldiers were reportedly involved in the operation to seize Erdogan in Marmaris and 25 of them had been caught earlier, Anadolu said.

Afghanistan
Afghan police complete operation against Kabul hotel attackers
Follow-up.
Afghan security forces have completed the operation against Taliban attackers at Kabul's Northgate hotel, with one police officer and two assailants killed, local media said Monday.

Earlier, a truck bomb explosion hit the Northgate guesthouse, located on Jalalabad Road in the Pul-e-Chakri area and frequented by foreigners. Several militants attacked the building after the blast and were inside the compound, with security and special forces later launching an operation to clear the compound. The Taliban has taken responsibility for the attack.

The operation resulted in two more police officers and two special forces members getting injured, the TOLOnews channel reported. One attacker died in the blast, with his two accomplices killed in the ensuing gunfight, according to the channel.

No casualties among hotel guests and staff have been reported, while the hotel and surrounding buildings have sustained significant damage, the news outlet said, citing its correspondent at the site of events.

Europe under threat: soldiers patrol the beaches in France
[Ynet] Due to credible ISIS threats, beachgoers in La Belle France are not allowed to bring large beach bags with them to the beach; armed soldiers on patrol are now a common sight; does this point to a new European norm?
The price of refusing to submit gets higher.
Alert levels warning citizens all around Europe to be wary of terror attacks are still high. Dutch news stations reported on Monday that a man was tossed in the clink

Meanwhile,

unusual pictures coming out of La Belle France show soldiers strapped with semi-automatic rifles patrolling the beaches due to a warning of an attack on sunbathers.

Beachgoers in Cannes are no longer allowed to bring large bags to the beach due to security concerns. Cannes Mayor David Lisnard said that the restrictions prevent people from bringing bags to the beach which might be filled with kaboom, and explained that the move is designed to make the police's jobs easier.

Two Hazara men shot dead in Quetta
QUETTA: Gunmen riding a motorcycle killed two members of the minority Hazara community on Monday in an apparent sectarian attack, police said.

The killing took place in the suburbs of Quetta, the provincial capital of the southwestern province of Baluchistan, while the victims were travelling in a rickshaw.

“Gunmen on a motorcycle stopped the rickshaw and then opened fire on them and fled the scene,” Abdullah Jan Afridi, a senior police officer in Quetta, told AFP.

Afridi said the pair were labourers in a coalmine. The rickshaw driver was unhurt in the attack in the Saryab road area.

“We are investigating but apparently it is a sectarian attack,” Afridi said.

Noor Baloch, a police surgeon in Quetta civil hospital, told AFP both victims were shot in the head. There was no claim of responsibility.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Khan Zehri ordered police to arrest killers as soon as possible.

Earlier in July, two powerful explosions ripped through crowds of minority Hazaras in Kabul who had gathered to protest over a power line, killing at least 80 people and leaving 231 others wounded, Afghan public health ministry said.

The militant Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for twin explosions.

Hazaras in Afghanistan are considered the poorest of the country's ethnic groups, and often complain of discrimination. Bamiyan is poverty stricken, though it is largely peaceful and has potential as a tourist destination.

Iraq
ISIS leaders, families flee Mosul
BAGHDAD: Iraq’s Defense Minister Khalid Al-Obeidi has said that Daesh group leaders and their families have sold their belongings and fled Mosul as Iraqi forces close in on the northern city.

Iraqi forces are conducting operations to set the stage for an assault on Mosul, the country’s second city that has been held by Daesh since June 2014, but the final push to retake it is likely still months away.

“A number of the families... and leaders of (Daesh) in Mosul, they and their families sold their belongings and withdrew toward Syria,” whose border west of the city, Obeidi told Iraqiya state television.

Some also sought to infiltrate toward Iraq’s autonomous Kurdish region, located north and east of Mosul, Obeidi said during an interview which was broadcast on Saturday night.

Mosul is the last city held by Daesh in Iraq, but retaking it poses a major challenge, and the operation could unleash a humanitarian crisis unless plans are made for people who would likely flee the fighting.

The Red Cross has said it believes that up to a million Iraqis could be displaced in the coming months by fighting against Daesh, including the operation to recapture Mosul.

Daesh overran large areas north and west of Baghdad in 2014, but has since lost significant ground to Iraqi forces backed by US-led air strikes, training and other assistance.

IDF arrests 10 Palestinians over terror attack in which rabbi was killed
[IsraelTimes] Army says raid jointly conducted with police, Shin Bet, while 27 more detained in crackdown on weapons workshops

The Israel Defense Forces placed in durance vile
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
10 people in the West Bank town of Dura overnight Sunday-Monday, in connection with the murder of an Israeli rabbi in a drive-by shooting last month.

The detainees include the relatives of the terrorist who killed Miki Mark, 48, as well as others suspected of helping Muhammad al-Fakih hide after he carried out the deadly attack.

The Israeli security forces also carried out widespread security operations across the West Bank overnight, tracking down weapons workshops and arms dealers. A total of 27 people were arrested in the sweep.

All of those arrested overnight were taken in for questioning by security forces.

In Qalqilya, the IDF raided a workshop used to make improvised weapons, in a joint operation with the Border Police and Shin Bet security service. Three lathes and 3 drills were seized.

In Nablus, troops arrested Mahayub Borhan Rashad Knaza, a local resident who the army said was "active" in the Paleostinian security services and one of the most prominent arms traders and manufacturers in the city.

The detainees include four suspected members of Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, terror group and two from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine terror organization.

Fakih -- who went on the run after the July 1 shooting that murdered Rabbi Mark and seriously maimed his wife -- was killed Wednesday in a standoff with security forces in the West Bank village of Surif, north of Hebron.

The army said last week that it arrested the three other members of the four-man cell that carried out the attack -- Fakih’s brother, Sahir; his cousin Muaz Fakih; and Mohammed Omaireh -- and that they all belong to the Hamas terror group, which rules the Gazoo Strip and has seen growing popularity in the West Bank.

4 die in bomb attack in Shaddadi in Hasakah
HASAKAH – At least four civilians were killed and nine more injured on Monday after a motorcycle bomb blown up in the town of Shaddadi south of Syria’s Hasakah province, local sources reported.

The Kurdish police force –also known as Asayish– has deployed its troops in Shaddadi countryside after a motorcycle bomb exploded in front of an internet café in the village of Arysha, leading to the death of four civilians and the injury of nine more.

Local activists told ARA News that ISIS is most likely behind the attack, saying a member of the extremist group has carried out the attack, since the targeted town used to be under ISIS control for at least two years.

This is not the first time that ISIS carried out attacks on civilians in SDF-held areas.

Also, there have been occasional clashes between SDF forces and ISIS near Shaddadi, in which also foreign fighters of the SDF, such as Gunter Helsten from Germany and Jamie Bright from Australia, were killed.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) captured the oil-rich town with coalition support in late February this year, capturing one of the last ISIS strongholds in the Hasakah province, leading to celebrations in Kurdish cities.

Turkey kills Syrians escaping from war
HASAKAH – A civilian was killed in Syria’s border city of Ras al-Ain, also known as Serekaniye in Kurdish, after being shot by Turkish border guards while trying to cross into the Turkish territories, local sources reported on Monday.

Khalil Daoud, 25, from the town of Alouk [5 kilometers east of Serekaniye city in Hasakah province], was killed while trying to enter Turkey.

The Kurdish police force, known as Asayish, transferred the victim to the local hospital of Serikaniye. According to medical reports, the man died after being hit by five bullets.

Turkish government continues building the separation wall along its borderline with Syria allegedly for security reasons and to prevent terror attacks.

In early 2015, Turkey closed its border to all but seriously injured Syrian asylum seekers.

Also, in the town of Tel Abyad some civilians were injured or even killed, when they tried to cross the border.

In the night, there is the regular sound of gunfire, when smugglers try to smuggle civilians across the border.

Human rights organizations have criticized the decision by Turkey to not allow civilians fleeing the Syrian conflict to go to Turkey.

Last May, Human Rights Watch (HRW) called on Turkey to open it’s borders.

“Its [Turkish] border guards have killed Syrian asylum seekers and pushed others back into the world’s worst war zone,” said Gerry Simpson, senior refugee researcher at Human Rights Watch.

“Governments and UN agencies should end their deafening silence on Turkey’s abuse of Syrian asylum seekers and press Turkey to reopen its border to civilians fleeing the horrors in Syria,” he added.

Arabia
Saudi Arabia cuts oil price to Asia
Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest oil exporter, lowered the pricing terms for Arab Light crude sold to Asia by the most in 10 months, signaling Saudi Arabia has no plans to back down while OPEC rival Iran tries to regain market share amid a global oversupply, Bloomberg reported.

State-owned Saudi Arabian Oil Co. said Sunday it will sell cargoes of Arab Light in September at $1.10 a barrel below Asia’s regional benchmark.

That is a pricing cut of $1.30 from August, the biggest drop since November, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The company was expected to lower the pricing by $1 a barrel, according to the median estimate in a Bloomberg survey of eight refiners and traders.

Earlier, in July, Chief Executive Amin Nasser told Reuters that Saudi Aramco wasn't worried about rival producers, such as Iraq, Iran and Russia, gaining ground in key market Asia, destination for about two-thirds of the kingdom's exports.

"Customers are increasing, no we are not," he said.

To maintain market share, Iran’s oil production has increased since January 16, 2016 when implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and lifting of sanctions began. Some 600,000 barrels per day (b/d) has been added so far and the government plans to raise it up to 800,000 b/d by the summer of 2016, reaching pre-sanction levels (prior to 2014).

Saudi Arabia, which is the largest OPEC oil producer and exporter, produced 10.308 million barrels per day of oil in June compared to 10.242 million barrels per day in May, according to OPEC’s latest estimates.

Police: 65 homicides in July in Chicago
[CHICAGO.SUNTIMES] reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
is poised to see the number of homicides in July dip from June, but the city is still on pace to see more people killed in 2016 than last year.

"We shake our heads and ask ’Why are some of our communities on the South and West Sides being held hostage by gun violence,'" Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said Monday.

There were 65 homicides in Chicago in July, according to Chicago Police. There were 71 homicides in the city in June and 66 in May.

The city has recorded 381 homicides so far in 2016, police said. That’s up about 44 percent from last year, when the city had 264 murders through July 31, 2015.

Police said 2,394 people were shot in the city so far in 2016, including 441 in July. In the same time period last year, 1,564 people had been shot through July 31, 2015.

Johnson invited news hounds to join him in the 4400 block of West Adams next to a vacant lot where officers on Sunday seized an illegal handgun that marked the 5,000th gun police had taken off the streets so far in 2016.

Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook defended his boss before an MSNBC panel that said Clinton essentially forced State Department employees to send her classified information on her private server because there was no other way to communicate with her.

"She was forcing everybody that wanted to communicate with her to move out of the classified realm, where you send classified information, and then put it on their own servers and send it to her," host Joe Scarborough asked. "Isn't that even worse?"

But Mook rejected that this is what happened, despite the FBI's public findings.

"You'd understand this, that's simply not true," he said. "You just don't send classified information over the unclassified system."

"You would understand this: the FBI director said she did," Scarborough shot back.

In reply, Mook again ignored the FBI's finding that more than 100 email threads contained classified information that was classified at the time they were sent. Instead, he argued that the FBI didn't believe anyone knew it was classified.

Trump's Ukraine Gaffe Actually Makes Some Sense
Donald Trump presents an oversized target for anyone who wants to attack him for poor knowledge of international politics. His most recent remarks on Russia and Ukraine, on ABC's "This Week," have again invited sharp criticism because they are so far removed from the U.S. government's official line. But they are not as ignorant as many think: Like much that Trump says, they represent a politically incorrect dissenting view that bears some analysis.

Here's what Trump said about Putin:

He's not going into Ukraine, OK? Just so you understand. He's not going to go into Ukraine, all right? You can mark it down and you can put it down, you can take it anywhere you want.

When George Stephanopoulos tried to correct him, saying Putin was already there, Trump conceded: "OK, well, he's there in a certain way."

Trump also breezily stated that "the people of Crimea, from what I've heard, would rather be with Russia than where they were." One wonders how he knows that. Last February, the Ukrainian arm of the German market research firm GfK attempted what is, to my knowledge, the only independent post-annexation survey of Crimeans' attitude toward their sudden change of nationality. But the collected data was unreliable because the researchers conducted their survey over landlines; people would have been too wary of being overheard to speak their minds. The poll showed they were happy for Crimea to be part of Russia -- but it's not clear whether any other result would have been possible given Russian secret intelligence's special attention to the peninsula. There's no way to find out whether locals would vote differently in a fair referendum today than Russia said they voted in a disgracefully rigged one in March, 2014.

But something Trump said immediately afterwards holds up better:

And that's under the Obama's administration, with his strong ties to NATO. So with all of these strong ties to NATO, Ukraine is a mess. Crimea has been taken. Don't blame Donald Trump for that.

Though many Americans don't realize it, that was a bull's eye.

In February, the Ukrainian parliament published the transcript of a Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council meeting that took place on Feb. 28, 2014. The Kiev authorities knew Russia was preparing something in Crimea -- and they decided not to fight it. One reason was that the Ukrainian army had been weakened by years of thievery and consequent underfunding. Another was that Western powers advised Ukraine against fighting back.

The U.S. stood by, and unofficially asked Ukraine to stand by, as Russia took Crimea. In reply, the U.S. targeted some officials from Putin's inner circle, broke off talks on visa liberalization and some military matters and banned certain technology exports to Russia -- a weak set of measures that was only expanded to include capital market restrictions for state-owned Russian companies after pro-Russian rebels shot down a passenger plane. Those restrictions -- the only component of the sanctions that is unpleasant to Putin and his regime -- would be lifted if Russia and Ukraine carry out a cease-fire agreement reached in Minsk last February, an agreement brokered by Germany and France, with no U.S. participation.

U.S. officials cannot say publicly that they let Russia take Crimea unopposed to prevent a large-scale invasion of the rest of Ukrainian territory. It didn't quite work: Putin is in Ukraine "in a certain way." But an invasion like the one in Georgia in 2008 did not take place. Nor can Ukrainian officials say openly that the U.S. and Europe, despite continuing to pay lip service to Ukraine's territorial integrity, have de-facto acquiesced in Crimea's annexation. That would be disloyal toward the Western allies, who are propping up the current Kiev government with loans and technical assistance.

Trump, on the other hand, has no qualms about saying openly what he thinks. His statements amount to no more than former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger -- not a political naïf -- has been saying ever since the invasion:

Nobody in the West has offered a concrete program to restore Crimea. Nobody is willing to fight over eastern Ukraine. That's a fact of life. So one could say we don't have to accept it, and we do not treat Crimea as a Russian territory under international law -- just as we continued to treat the Baltic states as independent throughout Soviet rule.

The difference between the official U.S. policy, which will probably continue under Hillary Clinton if she is elected, and the public statements of Trump (and Kissinger, with whom Trump has met during the election campaign) is mainly in the rhetoric -- and in the stated willingness, or lack thereof, to re-establish a working relationship with Moscow sooner rather than later. Trump's statements on Ukraine reflect a school of thought in the Republican mainstream, a realpolitik approach that many in Europe -- where patience is fraying with the anti-Russian sanctions -- would welcome.

Clinton, who has a long-standing, respectful relationship with Kissinger, will probably be exposed to his views on Ukraine, too. She may eventually ignore them, but that doesn't justify all the raised eyebrows about Trump's Ukraine remarks.

The Grand Turk
Turkey to abandon EU migrant deal if no visa-free travel
Turkey has said that it would have to abandon a deal with the European Union reached to stem the flow of migrants into the bloc if the EU did not grant visa-free travel to its citizens.
"Nice continent ya got there..."
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu told German Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) that if the EU did not grant visa-free travel to Turkish citizens, then it would abandon the March 18 Turkey-EU migrant deal. Çavuşoğlu said the agreement on stemming the refugee flow had worked because of “very serious measures” taken by Ankara.

“But all that is dependent on the suspension of the visa requirement for our citizens, which is also an item in the agreement of March 18,” he was quoted by Reuters as telling FAZ on July 31.

“If visa liberalization does not follow, we will be forced to back away from the deal on taking back [refugees] and the agreement of March 18,” he said, adding that the Turkish government was waiting for a precise date for visa liberalization.

“It could be the beginning or middle of October - but we are waiting for a firm date.”

European Commissioner Guenther Oettinger said recently he did not see the EU granting Turks visa-free travel this year due to Ankara’s crackdown after the failed military coup in mid-July.

In response to Çavuşoğlu’s remarks, German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel said Germany and the EU should not be blackmailed by Turkey in talks on visa liberalization for Turkish nationals.

“It is up to Turkey if there is or there isn’t visa liberalization,” Gabriel said during a trip to northern Germany, according to Reuters. “Germany and Europe should under no circumstances be blackmailed.”
You'd better be prepared with a fence, flights back to Syria, and tear gas...
...and more than a whiff of grapeshot.
Turkey had agreed to take back all irregular migrants reaching Greece via Turkey as of March 20, according to the EU-Turkey migrant deal reach on March 18. In exchange, the EU would take in the same amount of Syrian refugees from Turkey. As of Aug. 1, only less than 500 migrants were sent back to Turkey from Greece, while even a smaller amount of Syrian refugees were sent to the EU from Turkey.

The EU said Turkey must respect all the conditions of its migrant deal with the bloc before it can secure visa-free travel to Europe for its citizens. EU Commission spokeswoman Mina Andreeva said Aug. 1 that “if Turkey wants visa liberalization the benchmarks must be met,” according to the Associated Press.

Within the scope of the deal, the EU vowed to grant a total of 6 billion euros to Turkey to be used for Syrian refugees in the country, while also granting Turkish citizens visa-free travel inside the Schengen zone, on grounds that Turkey met the necessary requirements.

Last week, Greek data showed that migrant arrivals in Greece inched up in the past two weeks after the failed coup attempt in Turkey. The average rate has increased to 90 people a day, compared to 30 before the attempted coup, according to the data, AFP has reported.

At the height of the migrant crisis last year, thousands of people would land every day on Greek Aegean islands close to the coast of Turkey. Most were allowed by Greece to continue their journey northwards, prompting an outcry among several European states that hastened to shut their borders earlier this year.

Afghanistan
70% of ISIS militants in Afghanistan are Pakistani Taliban: Nicholson
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The top US commander in Afghanistan General John Nicholson has said roughly 70 per cent of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terror group loyalists fighting in Afghanistan are the members of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain.

Briefing the Washington-based journalists earlier this week, Gen. Nicholson, said "In the case of Islamic State Khorasan province, the majority of the members are from the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP)."

Gen. Nicholson further added that many of these turbans were forced out of Pakistain by the Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
military operation.

He said many IS fighters in Nangarhar

province came from Pakistain’s Orakzai tribal agency.

"And they were former members of the TTP, complete with their leadership, who wholesale joined Islamic State, pledged bayt (allegiance) to Islamic State and joined them earlier this year," Gen. Nicholson added.

This comes as the local officials in Nanagarhar made a similar remark regarding the terror group’s loyalists in Afghanistan earlier last month.

Provincial governor’s front man Ataullah Khogyani has said the documents obtained from the dead bodies and those incarcerated
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
during the operations in Achin, Kot, Haska Mina and other parts of Nangarhar, reveal that they are originally residents of Orakzai Agency
... crawling with holy men, home to Darra Adam Khel, the world's largest illegal arms bazaar. 14 distinct tribes of beturbanned primitives inhabit Orakzai agency's 1500 or so square kilometers...
Khogyani further added that the intelligence information gathered by the government also reveal that the ISIS loyalists are mostly comprised of Pak nationals.

According to Khogyani, the residents of Tajikistan are also fighting alongside the Pak nationals for ISIS terrorist group who are mainly deployed after completing training in Pakistain.

The Afghan forces as well as the US forces in Afghanistan have increased raids against the loyalists of the terror group in Nangarhar during the recent months.

Both the Afghan and US forces conduct regular Arclight airstrikes to eliminate the supporters of the terror group amid fears they are attempting to expand foothold in the country.

US airstrike pound ISIS positions in Sirte
The United States today confirmed that it had carried out strikes against IS in the city of Sirte at the request of the Faiez Serraj-led Presidency Council/Government of National Accord (PC/GNA). The US statement revealed that additional US strikes will continue to target IS in Sirte.

It is thought that the Americans targeted the Ougadougou Conference centre which is built of heavily reinforced concrete and which Bunyan Marsous forces have been unable to destroy or enter. They have been prevented from progressing against the Centre due to IS snipers.

In an official statement, the Pentagon confirmed that ‘‘Today, at the request of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA), the United States military conducted precision air strikes against ISIL targets in Sirte, Libya, to support GNA-affiliated forces seeking to defeat ISIL in its primary stronghold in Libya’’.

‘‘These strikes were authorized by the president following a recommendation from Secretary Carter and Chairman Dunford.
That's General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff ...
They are consistent with our approach to combating ISIL by working with capable and motivated local forces’’.

‘‘GNA-aligned forces have had success in recapturing territory from ISIL thus far around Sirte, and additional U.S. strikes will continue to target ISIL in Sirte in order to enable the GNA to make a decisive, strategic advance’’.

‘‘The U.S. stands with the international community in supporting the GNA as it strives to restore stability and security to Libya. These actions and those we have taken previously will help deny ISIL a safe haven in Libya from which it could attack the United States and our allies’’.

Both Britain’s ambassador Peter Millett and US Special Envoy to Libya Jonathan Winer welcomed the action by the ‘’international coalition’’ against IS.

Winer added in a tweet ‘’US military action reinforces our call for all parties in Libya to work through the GNA and focus on the threat from IS. US military makes clear US help to Libya in Sirte limited to strikes and information sharing. US forces will not engage in ground operations’’.

Italy also warmly welcomed the US strikes in a statement tonight.

Prime Minister-elect of the Presidency Council and Government of National Accord, meanwhile, confirmed the Libyan request to the US for the air strike in a televised address.

‘‘In response to the command of the Bunyan Marsous Operations Room (the name of the PC/GNA operation against IS in Sirte) and in consultation with the Minister of Defence, and in its role of the Presidency Council as Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army, the Presidency Council decided to make a direct request for support to the US to direct specific strikes against IS hideouts in the city of Sirte and its surroundings, in coordination with the Presidency Council and Operations Room Command’’.

‘‘Today, the first of these strikes began on specific locations in Sirte causing huge losses in the lines and assets of the enemy, enabling our field forces to control strategic locations’’.

The Bunyan Marsous Operations Room confirmed that the strikes hit targets including a T-72 tank. They report that 354 Libyan troops have been killed and more than 2,000 wounded since the start of operations against in Sirte.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Ghasri, the spokesman for the Bunyan Marsous Operations Room revealed today that an IS commander was arrested while trying to escape from Sirte by sea.

Speaking at a press conference he confirmed that the international community (American) intervention was in total coordination with the PC/GNA and Operations Room in an effort to get rid of IS.

On the other hand, it will be recalled that there were demonstrations in various cities of Libya when news of French participation in operations in the east became apparent after the shooting down of a helicopter they were in.

Exploding toolbox at Rio’s Olympic stadium just days before opening ceremony
[EXPRESS.CO.UK] AN EXPLOSION has rocked the Olympic stadium in Rio just days before it’s set to host the opening ceremony after police found a suspicious toolbox.

Authorities sent in a robot to investigate the toolbox on Sunday at the Maracana Stadium as rehearsals for the ceremony were underway.

The toolbox is believed to have went kaboom! when the robot touched it. No injuries have been reported.

The controlled kaboom raises serious concerns about the safety of athletes and spectators alike at the Rio Olympics, with the opening ceremony starting in just five days.

The Games have been blighted by controversies amid fears for the safety of athletes and those attending.

Seven Saudi troops, many Houthis killed in Yemen border clash
[DAWN] Seven Saudi troops and dozens of Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
fighters were killed in heavy fighting on the border with Yemen, Saudi state news agency SPA reported on Sunday, as the main combatants in Yemen’s war prepared for a further week of peace talks in Kuwait.

The UN-sponsored negotiations had been on the verge of collapse after a new row erupted last week between the Saudi-backed government and its Iranian-allied Houthi foes and renewed fighting broke out.

But UN Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said the talks between the Houthis and their General People’s Congress party allies and the internationally-recognised government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi had been extended by a week.

"We hope that the delegations can utilise this remaining week to achieve progress on the path towards peace," he said in a statement.

The slow-moving negotiations are aimed at ending a 16-month-old conflict that has killed more than 6,400 people, nearly half of them civilians, and displaced more than 2.5 million.

A truce that began in April has slowed the momentum of fighting, in which a Saudi-led coalition has been trying to restore Hadi to power and roll back Houthi gains, but violence continues almost daily.

New UN proposal
The coalition said Houthi fighters, backed by troops loyal to former president and GPC chief President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
, tried to breach the Saudi border at the Rabou’a area on Saturday, igniting heavy fighting.

It said in a statement that dozens of Houthi fighters were killed near the border strip and their military vehicles destroyed by coalition aircraft that repelled their assault.

One Saudi officer and six soldiers died in the fighting, the statement, carried by Saudi state news agency SPA, said.

Peace prospects dimmed on Thursday when the Houthis and GPC said they had set up a body to unilaterally run Yemen. The move was criticised by Cheikh Ahmed as a breach of UN Security Council Resolution 2216, which urges the Houthis to refrain from unilateral acts that could erode Yemen’s political transition.

In apparent protest at the Houthi-GPC move, Hadi’s delegates to the talks said they planned to pull out of the negotiations.

But Cheikh Ahmed proposed to both sides on Saturday that the Houthis quit the capital Sanaa and Hodeidah and Taiz cities, and talks subsequently be convened on forming a new government that would include the Houthis, delegates at the Kuwait talks said.

While Hadi accepted the proposal, the Houthis dismissed the proposal as a non-starter but said they would stay in Kuwait for the talks. "We have asserted to Ould Cheikh (Ahmed) that the solution must be comprehensive and that no subject is delayed," the Houthi delegation said in a statement.

Yemeni govt gives Houthis deadline to sign UN deal
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The foreign minister of Yemen’s internationally recognized government on Monday gave Iran-backed Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
militias and their allies a deadline till Aug. 7 to sign a UN peace proposal aimed at ending the country’s civil war.

The Yemeni government has already accepted the UN peace proposal on Sunday after more than a year of armed conflict.

"If they want peace, they have to sign the peace deal and we were patient," Abdulmalik Al-Mekhlafi, who is also Yemen’s deputy prime minister, told news hounds.

Mekhlafi's deadline also comes after the delegation of Yemen’s government decided to leave Kuwait on Monday after the Houthis side rejected the UN peace proposal.

The foreign minister, meanwhile, said: "We’ll return at any moment, even an hour after our departure, if the other side agrees to sign this document which the [UN] envoy presented."

Mekhlafi also warned that the Yemeni people will challenge the Houthis who "are working against legitimacy" especially if they continued to be "hurdles" to peace in the country, which he warned to be on the verge of an economic collapse.

He said the Yemeni government is "keen to achieve peace," and accused the Houthis and their allies of "torture," "arrests" of political dissidents and the "destruction of cities" and creating "unprecedented situations" harmful to the country.

He also reiterated the Yemeni government’s demand for the UN Security Council Resolution 2216. The resolution states that the Houthi militias must withdraw from seized territories including the capital Sanaa.

Fahad al-Sharafi, a Yemeni analyst, told Al Arabiya News channel that the UN proposal holds key and important points for peace to be reached in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and to end the current crisis.

Sharafi also said that the Houthis have "enough time" to sign the agreement, but it is unclear if they will also follow suit "because within hours" after the UN proposed the peace draft, they rejected it.
Usually that kind of thing is considered a pretty clear sign.
Peace talks in Kuwait, which started in April, have done little to end fighting that has killed more than 6,200 people and displaced more than 2.5 million in the Arabian Peninsula state.

311 putschists still at large after coup attempt in Turkey: Defense Minister
As the defense ministry announced the reshuffling of the jobs of 167 generals within the army following the dismissal of thousands of putchists, Turkish defense minister told CNN Türk Monday that 311 soldiers who were involved in the failed coup attempt were still at large, Daily Sabah reported.

There are still 311 soldiers, including 9 generals, still at large, Minister Fikri Ishık said, following the July 15-16 attempted coup when a faction of the military commanderred tanks, helicopters and fighter jets and attempted to topple the government. Ishik said that they were believed to still be in Turkey.

Ishik added that military experts estimate that around 95 percent of cadets studying in shut down military schools have ties with the Gülenist Terror Organization (FETÖ). Ishik also stated that expulsions from the military could continue if deemed necessary.

Due to the ongoing events in the country, namely the post-coup state of emergency, the official ceremony for the August 30 Victory Day celebrations in Ankara will be cancelled, added Ishik.

The decree to reappoint 167 generals was signed by President Tayyip Erdoğan on Monday, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım and Defense Minister Fikri Ishık, said 94 generals in land forces, 22 admirals, 44 generals in the airforce and seven others have been reappointed.

Saiqa take second Gwarsha checkpoint from IS
Benghazi, 1 August 2016:

The Libyan National Army’s Saiqa Special Forces say they have taken the western, main entrance to Benghazi’s Gwarsha district plus a number of other buildings in the vicinity.

According to Saiqa’s special investigations head Fadl Al-Hassi, the brigade lost one commander during this afternoon’s operation. Three other soldiers were wounded. The operation included air strikes by the LNA.

Parts of Gwarsha remain under Islamic State control, however, with the battle between both sides having turning into a lengthy war of attrition.

1) it is not how you vote, it is how the votes are counted

2) you do not need anyone in the polling places. You just need ONE person where the electronic votes are tallied

3) use a damn paper ballot instead of the touch screens. Paper Ballots are saved for 10 years and can be manually counted, electrons can't be

4) hanging chads made Gore's people nuts not because the were evidence of vote fraud but because there were physical ballots to count

#4  Yes.

They will have to keep anyone but Hillary out of DC who can expose the biggest Clinton Foundation money laundering/payoff scheme in US political history. This corruption will rival the massive Brazilian government corruption scandal involving Petrobraus billions.

If your husband was a POTUS and you were a US Senator you have the power to get many, many people to arrange favorable legislation for your "Foundation" clients around the world. There are many ways to share some of those millions and millions in creative, clandistine ways to many politicians on both sides of the aisle and bureaucrats and top media elites.

The Clintons have perfected that activity and almost everyone in DC is caught up in their network. Federal Agencies who would investigate and prosecute are compromised now as well. President Obama is President Dilma Rousoff in this whole process. He is clean enough and posseses the ultimate power to keep a lid on this for everyone in DC.

This will be a nasty, totally corrupt election unless this rot IS effectively exposed somehow.

Egypt rankled by Hamas’s burgeoning ties to Islamic State
[IsraelTimes] Cairo learns that IS fighters maimed in attack on its troops in Sinai were smuggled into Gazoo via tunnels for treatment

Cairo is fuming over increasing cooperation between the Paleostinian terror group Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, which rules the Gazoo Strip, and Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
-affiliated forces in the neighboring Sinai Peninsula, The Times of Israel has learned, despite attempts in recent months to alleviate the tension between Egypt and Gazoo.

In an effort to curb that collaboration, Egypt has relayed to Hamas leaders that it is aware of the links between its senior activists in the Rafah border area and commanders in the Islamic State’s Sinai Province.

That cooperation has seen injured IS fighters routinely brought into the Strip for treatment, alongside ongoing weapons smuggling over the border. A few days ago, Cairo discovered that a group of IS fighters maimed during an attack on Egyptian Army soldiers ‐ they were planting explosives on the beach at Al-Arish ‐ were transferred to hospitals in Gazoo for treatment.

Egyptian sources say they were likely smuggled into Gazoo via tunnels overseen by Hamas’s military wing that facilitate the connection between the two Islamist terror groups.

This highly worrying development for the Egyptians began a few months ago, when prominent members of Hamas’s military wing crossed over from Gazoo into Sinai to help IS set up its military infrastructure there. Several of them took their families with them, and were involved in training IS activists in the art of planting IEDs and firing missiles at tanks. Several even joined the IS-affiliated Sinai Province group, including Muhammad Abu Shawish and Abed Al Wahad. Another senior activist in Hamas, Nasser Judah, also originally of Gazoo, was killed fighting with IS in Sinai. In May, The Times of Israel identified two more activists who crossed into Sinai as Mohammed Sami and Mahmoud Zinet.

Egyptian sources say that whenever Cairo brings up the issue with Hamas’s leadership, it receives the same evasive answer: the activists assisting IS are all former members of the Paleostinian organization. But the dissembling doesn’t end there: Hamas military wing commanders in Rafah regularly host commanders of Sinai Province. One of the most prominent of these is Suleiman Al-Sawarka, whose Al-Sawarka tribe was among the founders of Ansar Bait al-Maqdis, which went on to pledge allegiance to IS and become Sinai Province.

Al-Sawarka, whom Israel and Egypt accuse of involvement in an attack in Taba in 2004 that killed 34, including 18 Egyptians, arrived in the Strip about two months ago and has been holding talks with senior figures in Hamas’s military wing. Egyptian sources emphasize that he is in Gazoo with the blessing of some of the top officers in Hamas, including the commander of the southern Strip, Muhammad Shabbaneh; Hamas military chiefs Muhammad Deif and Marwan Issa; and strongman Yehya Sinwar.

More officials than athletes in Pakistan’s Olympics contingent
[DAWN] Pakistain will send its smallest-ever national Olympics contingent to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, comprising more officials than athletes.

A 24-member contingent will represent the country at Rio 2016 scheduled to be held from August 5 to 21.

"Pakistain contingent will include seven athletes and 17 officials," a Pakistain Olympic Association (POA) official told APP.

It is the first time Pakistain’s national hockey team will not be featuring in the mega event as it failed to qualify.

Most of the other athletes, too, for the quadrennial sports spectacle got entry through wildcard or continental quota system.

Not even a single boxer could qualify for the Olympics although one of Pakistain’s two non-hockey medals came through boxing in 1988 when Hussain Shah won a bronze.

Judoka Shah Hussain, son of Hussain Shah, is the only athlete who sealed a place at coveted multi-sports event under continental quota.

Interpol arrests Nigerian accused in $60 million cybercrime
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A Nigerian accused of scamming $60 million from companies around the world through fraudulent emails has been jugged
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
after months of investigation, Interpol and Nigeria's anti-fraud agency said Monday.

One target paid out $15.4 million, according to a statement.

The statement said the ringleader of a global scamming network, identified only as a 40-year-old called Mike, was arrested along with a 38-year-old accomplice in Nigeria's oil capital, Port Harcourt, in June. He is on administrative bail, which implies that officers do not yet have enough evidence to charge him in court.

The man is accused of leading a criminal network that compromised email accounts of small and medium-sized businesses around the world including in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Romania, South Africa and Thailand. The statement didn't name any of the targets.

The network involved about 40 people in Nigeria, Malaysia and South Africa who provided malware and carried out the frauds, with money-laundering contacts in China, Europe and the United States providing bank account details.

A supplier's email would be compromised and fake messages sent to a buyer with instructions for payment to a bank account under the network's control, the statement said. Or the email account of a high-level executive would be taken over and a request for a wire transfer sent to an employee responsible for handling such requests.

Such crime "poses a significant and growing threat, with tens of thousands of companies victimized in recent years," Noboru Nakatani, executive director of the Interpol Global Complex for Innovation, said in a statement. "The public, and especially businesses, need to be alert to this type of cyber-enabled fraud."

Nigeria is notorious for internet fraud. The U.S. Embassy says it receives inquiries every day from Americans who have been defrauded.

Pamphlet claiming responsibility for Larkana explosions found
[DAWN] HYDERABAD: Larkana police are reported to have found a pamphlet -- purported to have been written by Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army (SRA) -- claiming responsibility for Saturday’s kabooms near a Rangers’ checkpoint. It warns the paramilitary force to leave Sindh as soon as possible.

The pamphlet, whose image was sent to Dawn by a police brass hat by WhatsApp on Sunday, reads: "Sindh’s geography, demography, natural resources and national identity are under threat in the state system of Pakistain.

"Sindh’s trade routes and railway lines are being used only for exploitation of Sindh’s natural resources, oil, gas, coal, etc. In such context, SRA feels its historical responsibility to save Sindh from upcoming national threats and challenges".

DIG Larkana Abdullah Sheikh told Dawn that police were examining the pamphlet, but avoided making any further comment.

Ben Stein: 'After the Democrats' Horror Story'
[American Spectator] It is hot. Too hot. I awakened feeling happy, though. Maybe because the conventions are over and I can go back to watching my TCM classic movies and my World War One documentaries. I also just finished watching the greatest western of all time, High Noon.

There is a movie about heroism. About manliness. That movie, starring the incomparable Gary Cooper, came out in 1952. It was the first and only movie my father ever took me to by myself, that is, just us two men. I was seven. I saw it on a double bill with the British movie, Breaking The Sound Barrier.

I was so happy to be at that movie with my father I didn’t even mind that they didn’t have popcorn at the theater. I think it was "The Playhouse" near 13th and K, maybe a block from McPherson Square. That was a giddy night. Fathers, spend time with your sons. It means a world to them, as far as I could tell.

We were up in Sandpoint for about ten days. Wlady was kind enough to post some pictures. It’s more beautiful than ever and the view from my living room -- our living room -- is more spectacular than ever. Early in the morning the lake looks like an immense iceberg, blue and gray and then alive with fire. Like fire on ice. I never tire of it.

Of course, we went up to Hills Resort on Priest Lake. That’s about a ninety-minute drive and every time I make that trip I swear it’s too long and I will never do it again, even if it is by the wide Pendoreille River and through the endless forests north of the town of Priest River.

But then I open the door to Hills and magic happens. I push open the doors and I am in 1956. It’s an episode of The Twilight Zone. The room is old fashioned, probably never remodeled, with knotty pine paneling and floor to ceiling windows. The diners are respectable, usually families, all looking as if they came from a Saturday Evening Post cover by Rockwell.

Outside the windows there are people playing paddle ball and farther towards the lake, volleyball. The waitresses and waiters smile and look happy and are happy. There is a cheery hub bub all about the room. My eyes go out to the marina and then to the boundless Priest Lake.
Lengthy, but don't neglect the comments, particular those of 'Bill Hussein O'Stalin' and 'Angry Dad.'

Somali Govt Official shot dead in Mogadishu
Suspected Al Shabaab assassins have killed a senior Somali government official in Mogadishu on Sunday night, the latest in a string of killings in the capital.

Khalid Mohamed Mo’alin, who was a village administrator in Mogadishu’s Yaqshid district was executed by pistol-wielding men, thought to be Al Shabaab. The murder of Mo’alin was the third assassination of its kind in the past two days in Mogadishu, a city that has been hit by deadly attacks from Al Shabaab.

Afterwards, Somali security forces have cordoned off the scene of shooting, and launched a manhunt for the suspects, but reports say no arrest was made so far.

Europe
French Muslims’ anti-jihad letter omits Jewish victims
[IsraelTimes] A leader of French Jews criticized Moslem intellectuals whose petition against local jihadists omits any mention of anti-Semitic violence.

The petition, signed by dozens of academics and celebrities, appeared Sunday in the Journal de Dimanche under the title "We, French-Moslems, are ready to assume our responsibilities." In it, the co-signatories lamented the perceived weakness of the institutions of their faith communities in stopping gunnies from acting violently in Islam’s name.

The text begins by listing five recent terrorist attacks: The Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
killings in January 2015, the bombing and shooting attacks in November, the murder of two coppers in June, the Nice promenade attacks last month, and last week’s slaying of a priest.

It makes reference neither to the murder of four Jews in a kosher supermarket, the Gay Paree Hyper Cacher, after the Charlie Hebdo massacre, nor to the execution of three children and a rabbi in Toulouse
...lies on the banks of the River Garonne, half-way between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The Toulouse metropolitan area is the fourth-largest in La Belle France...
in 2012 ‐ both perpetrated by radical Islamists.

In their letter, the co-signatories called for "a clear organizational project" within French Moslem communities, which would involve "transparent and viable funding for mosques, education and salaried employment for imams, research on history, anthropology and theology that would allow and allows one to be Moslem in a non-religious republic."

It also called for "a cultural battle against radical Islam, among young and not so young, with modern methods and the most effective techniques for disseminating information and ideas."

"You’re ready to assume your responsibilities, but you are off to a bad start," Robert Ejnes, the executive director of the CRIF umbrella of French Jewish communities and organizations, wrote on Facebook, citing the omissions.

"You have a long way to go, my friends: You need to understand one day that these anti-Semitic attacks were committed against *Jews*, who were targeted for being Jewish. You can’t avoid these anti-Semitic murders," Ejnes added.

"In any case, we’ll always be here to remind you," he concluded.

CRIF has asked the authors to address the omission and have the text corrected.

Jihadists Launch Offensive to Ease Aleppo Siege
[AnNahar] Jihadist forces allied to rebels attacked regime forces south and southwest of Aleppo Sunday in a bid to ease the siege of Syria's second city, rebels and a monitor said.

Since July 17, Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Before going into the family business Pencilneck was an eye doctor. If he'd stuck with it he'd have had a good practice by now...
's forces have surrounded rebel-held districts of Aleppo city, one of the main front lines in the conflict ravaging the country since 2011.

Loyalists forces cut the Castello Road, the main supply line into rebel-held neighborhoods in the north of the city.

Now snuffies have attacked from the south, a region divided between loyalists backed by Iranian fighters and Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
on the one hand, and Syrian and foreign jihadists allied with rebel groups on the other.

On Sunday, Islamist groups such as the influential Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...

...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front -- rebranded Jabhat Fateh al-Sham after breaking from al-Qaeda -- said they had begun a battle to try to reopen a new supply route.

Fateh al-Sham launched two car kabooms against regime positions in suburban Rashidin in southwestern Aleppo and fighting also raged in the early evening, the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights said.

Three children were among 11 civilians killed in rebel rocket attacks launched from Rashidin on the government-controlled district of Hamdaniyeh in western Aleppo, the Observatory said.

Other attacks focused on southern parts of the city towards the regime-controlled suburb of Ramussa, the Britannia-based monitor reported.

"It will be a long and difficult battle," said Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman. "The army is supported by a large number of Iranians and fighters from Hizbullah, not to mention the Russian planes."

Forces from Leb's Shiite group have been fighting alongside Assad's men in Syria for years, and Russia at the end of September last year began a campaign of air strikes in support of loyalist fighters.

In Aleppo city itself, regime forces bombarded rebel-held districts Sunday despite the announcement by Damascus and Moscow of humanitarian corridors to allow civilians and rebels ready to surrender to leave.

On Saturday, government media reported that dozens of civilians and rebels had left besieged eastern Aleppo through humanitarian corridors, but residents there and rebels dismissed the claims as "lies."

Elsewhere, at least nine non-combatants were killed Sunday in an air strike that hit a makeshift hospital at Jassem in the southern province of Daraa.

The International Rescue Committee, which supported the facility, called on the U.N. Security Council "to act in defense of the most basic principles of the U.N."

"The bombing of hospitals is never justified. All those involved must be held to account," said IRC chief David Miliband in a statement.

Recognize the Palestinian meme did you? One must wonder how Mr. Khan balances his love for the U.S. Constitution with his belief in Sharia Law? For the layman (which is me), the two appear to be irreconcilable.

#9  IMO Captain Khan should be honored for the hero he is. His parents should be honored as Gold Star parents. I don't think McCain should be disparaged either. That said, the Khans pushed themselves (with a great deal of help from the Clintonistas) into the political spotlight. It is legit to question their motives. I have yet to see the same concern from the Obama/Clinton campaign for the police officers gunned down by radicals and thugs or the parents and families of the Benghazi defenders who were murdered or for those who have been shot, blown up or murdered by Islamic inspired terrorists.

I don't think Trump is as good as his camp might say. I don't think he is as bad as the MSM and the left says he is. He has a record of getting things done. With Hillary it is difficult to point to much in the way of accomplishments. I don't think the Washington establishment really wants to see change occur. Hillary is the establishment politician. One knows what they get with Hillary--she is a lying, election-thieving, underhanded slimy politician. With Trump, you get some hope of the changes he says he will try to bring about. He is supportive of the cops and the military and the vets from what I can tell.

Europe
Italy says 8,000 migrants rescued in five days
...then brought to Italy rather than returned to Libya, which will encourage ever more of the unvetted to take this easier invasion route.
[AlAhram] More than 1,500 migrants colonists were rescued from waters off Libya Monday, lifting the total picked up to 8,000 over five days, according to the Italian coastguard which coordinated the operations.

Vessels from the coastguard, the Italian navy, humanitarian organizations and EU anti-trafficking operation Sophia were involved in 14 different rescue missions.

The latest rescues will lift to around 94,000 the number of migrants colonists brought to Italian ports this year, roughly in line with the pattern of 2015, according to Flavio Di Giacomo, a front man for the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

The number of migrants colonists trying to reach Europe via the Greek islands has dropped sharply since an EU-The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

deal designed to stem the flow was agreed in March.

Numbers on that route are running at dozens per day rather than the thousands per day seen this time last year.

More than 3,000 migrants colonists have died at sea while trying to reach either Greece or Italia since the start of this year, an increase of some 50 percent on the same period in 2015.

The number of migrants arriving on the Greek islands has DOUBLED since the failed military coup in Turkey

Iraq
ISIS blamed for poisoning water at Turkish military base north of Mosul
Just a reminder that the Turks are there, doing whatever it is they are doing.
[Rudaw] At least 60 Turkish soldiers and 20 Sunni Death Eaters have reportedly been poisoned at a military base near the town of Bashiqa north of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, according to a local Kurdish official, who said that the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) is believed to have spoiled the bases’ water supply.

Khairi Khidir, manager of Shekhan hospital, told Rudaw that around "20 soldiers, who are [Sunni] Hashd al-Watani soldiers, were poisoned and admitted to our hospital."

Brig. Gen. Mohammed Yahya, head of the Gudadi base in Bashiqa rejected the notion that the soldiers have been poisoned, claiming instead that they "became ill due to high temperatures and overheated water."
Khidir added that according to the information obtained by them "another 60 Turkish soldiers became ill while at the base. Some of them received treatment from us while others were rushed back to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
Khidir went on to say that "we could not immediately identify the reason for their illness en masse."

An estimated 1,500 Sunni volunteers have been receiving military training from Turkish personnel at the Gudadi military base in Bashiqa, which Sunni officials claim will be a crucial part of pushing back ISIS murderous Moslems from Mosul.

About 300 Turkish troops with heavy weapons, tanks, and armored vehicles have been stationed at the base to train the Sunni militias.

A military source inside the base told Rudaw that now everybody at the base "is reluctant because they believe ISIS has poisoned the base's water, aimed at the Turkish soldiers specifically."

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
Brig. Gen. Mohammed Yahya, head of the Gudadi base in Bashiqa rejected the notion that the soldiers have been poisoned, claiming instead that they "became ill due to high temperatures and overheated water."
Hysteria rather than poison? Or simply poor hygiene practices...
The base is only 30 kilometers northeast of Mosul city and was established by the former Mosul governor Aseel Nujaifi.

Hashd al-Watani was initially established to recruit Sunni fighters who were willing to take part in an assault on ISIS in Iraq’s Sunni heartland of Mosul.

The base has been a frequent target for ISIS midrange missiles that have so far killed at least four Sunni fighters and maimed 28 others, according to military officials at the base.

Afghanistan
Forces linked to General Dostum terrorize villagers, HRW says
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The militia forces loyal to the First Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
have allegedly terrorized local residents in northern Faryab province of Afghanistan.

The Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....
(HRW) has called on the government to prosecute militia members responsible for killings and other abuses against civilians in this province.

Citing interview report in the aftermath of the attack, Patricia Gossman, senior Afghanistan researcher at Human Rights Watch, said "The killings in Faryab are the latest in a long record of atrocities by Dostum’s militia forces."

Gossman further added "The fact that these forces, and Vice-President Dostum himself, have never been held accountable, has undermined security in northern Afghanistan."

On June 26, Afghan army and Junbish forces conducted a military operation against Taliban forces in Faryab province, in which the militia forces killed at least 13 civilians and maimed 32 others, HRW said, citing UNAMA report.

The rights organization further added after Taliban forces left the area, Junbish fighters entered four villages and assaulted villagers whom they accused of supporting the Taliban, killing five and injuring 12.

Dostum was elected vice-president in September 2014. In late 2015 he announced that he was reactivating the Junbish militia in response to Taliban military gains in Faryab and Sar-e Pul provinces, and has since overseen military operations in these provinces.

“We neutralised nine militants in the operation,” Sheikh Maruf Hassan, DMP additional commissioner, told media on completion of the operation.
"Didn't leave any of 'em for an encounter or crossfire, either," continued Sheikh Hassan. "Just wasn't worth the effort."
DMP Additional Commissioner Shaikh Maruf Hasan said that a block raid was under way in Kallyanpur area under the supervision of Mirpur deputy commissioner to arrest terrorists. The terrorists first attacked on the police during the raid on Road No 5.

Then the police cordoned off the area and informed the bomb disposal unit, RAB and SWAT. “We took time to secure the area so that no casualty takes place. We started our formal drive at 5:51am and named it 'Operation Storm 26,'” he told reporters after the drive.

Maruf said that they had destroyed all the nine militants as they tried to flee the building and their bomb disposal unit was searching for explosives in a flat on the fourth floor.

Israelis say PokeyMan is a NoGo
The Israeli military is warning its soldiers about a new threat: the widely popular mobile phone game "Pokemon Go."

The army said Monday it has banned its forces from playing the game on Israeli military bases due to security concerns. In a directive to soldiers and officers, the army warned the game activates cell phone cameras and location services, and could leak sensitive information like army base locations and photographs of the bases.

The military is also concerned that soldiers could download a fake application that impersonates "Pokemon Go" but could leak information from soldiers' phones.

Europe
France shut around 20 mosques since December: Minister
[AlAhram] French authorities have shut down around 20 mosques and prayer halls considered to be preaching radical Islam since December, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said on Monday.

"There is no place ... in La Belle France for those who call for and incite hatred in prayer halls or in mosques, and who don't respect certain republican principles, notably equality between men and women," the minister said.

There are some 2,500 mosques and prayer halls in France, about 120 of which are considered to be preaching radical Salafism.
"That is why I took the decision a few months ago to close mosques through the state of emergency, legal measures or administrative measures. About 20 mosques have been closed, and there will be others."

Cazeneuve was speaking after a meeting with leaders of the French Council of the Moslem Religion.

There are some 2,500 mosques and prayer halls in La Belle France, about 120 of which are considered to be preaching radical Salafism, a strict Sunni interpretation of Islam.

He said that since 2012, 80 people had been expelled from La Belle France, and dozens more expulsions were under way, without giving further details.
