Belgium transi euthanized following failed boob job and penis rejection
[Huffpoo] A Belgian man who was born a woman has died by legal euthanasia after his sex change operations left him with "unbearable psychological suffering." Nathan, born Nancy Verhelst, died on Monday afternoon, Belgium's Het Laatste Nieuws reported. Speaking to the newspaper hours before his death, the 44-year-old described a troubled childhood. Nathan, born Nancy, Verhelst killed self died on Monday afternoon
Blaming his childhood and parents at 44 was he ?
He said: "While my brothers were celebrated, I got a storage room above the garage as a bedroom. 'If only you had been a boy,' my mother complained. I was tolerated, nothing more."
We refer to them as bonus rooms, they're rather handy.
Verhelst had hormone therapy in 2009 and a mastectomy and surgery to construct a penis in 2012 but said "none of these operations worked as desired."
Nothing beats OEM, and OEM only lasts so many miles.
"I was ready to celebrate my new birth," he told the newspaper. "But when I looked in the mirror, I was disgusted with myself. My new breasts did not match my expectations and my new penis had symptoms of rejection. I do not want to be... a monster. "
Imagine that, breasts that fail "expectations" and a non-compliant penis.
Following his death, his mother spoke to the newspaper on Wednesday, to say Verhelst's "Death does not bother me. I feel no sorrow, no doubt or remorse. We never had a bond which therefore could not be broken."
But I now have a new sewing room....
The euthanasia was carried out by cancer specialist Wim Distelmans, who last year administered lethal injections to congenitally deaf twins who feared there were also going blind.
Slow oncology day eh Wim old boy ?

Economy
Alan Greenspan confessions now on sale at $36 a pop.
On predicting crises:

"I did not come close at all on the housing boom."

On lessons from the 2008 collapse of Lehman Brothers, one of the nation’s largest investment banks

"You’d need government regulation to set up the capital standards because most banks, as I’ve seen, will fight endlessly trying to get as little capital requirements as possible. If you’re thinking in terms of the period when we all thought that people acted in their long-term self-interest, you can demonstrate in that hypothetical case that you need no regulations at all. It will be automatic.

But that’s not the way the world works.

The premises that I believed prior to 2008 I had to discard because the evidence definitely said I was wrong."

Florida man burned severly whilst cross burning in own lawn.
[TPM Livewire] A 50-year-old Palm Bay, Fla. man suffered extensive second-degree burns on Tuesday when he accidentally lit himself on fire while setting up a Halloween display that involved a wooden cross, candles, and gasoline, according to Florida Today. Police described the incident as a "prank."
I blame Visiting Angels.
The archangel Michael is reputed to have a sense of humor...
"It started as some kind of prank apparently and involved a wooden cross," Yvonne Martinez, a spokesperson for the Palm Bay Police Department, told Florida Today. "We don't know if he was trying to light the cross or the candles but when he did, his clothes caught fire."
I've seldom resorted to using petrol to light a candle, just say'n.
Since he's an archangel, you can't really call his sense of humor 'wicked.'
The man, identified as Ron 'Sparky' Nielson, was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center's burn unit for treatment, and his condition was not publicly known on Wednesday.
Whatever his condition, it is no doubt painful.
The word 'broiled' springs to mind...
"He was conscious and alert but he had second-degree burns over 40 to 50 percent of his body, including his chest, arms, upper torso," Martinez said.
Better luck next year Ron.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
A Bird in the Hand
While being chased by a cop, a Connecticut man allegedly threw a parrot at his uniformed pursuer, who was bit on the hand when trying to shield himself from the feathered projectile.
Sick him, Spike! Oh wait. You're a bird.
Truly a flying projectile...
Luis Santana, 32, was arrested Tuesday night on several charges, including assaulting a police officer, disorderly conduct, and animal cruelty.
Bird Brain, a bit better than a bugwit.
A patrolman responding to a call about a fight encountered Santana on a Waterbury street around 10 PM. When Santana bolted, bird in hand,
which is worth two in the bush
Officer Gary Kichar gave chase.
Unhand that bird! Hokay.
While fleeing, Santana turned and threw the white parrot at Kichar's head. When the cop raised his hand to protect himself, the bird bit his finger.
Ow! Is Alfred Hitchcock around? I've been bitten by a Parrot! I bet some Pirate is missing his Pa

WaPo News - Boehner Good, TEA Party Bad
Despite presiding over a chamber that nearly drove the country to a debt default, John A. Boehner still has the enduring support of a group that would have been most harmed by that event: the business community.
No, Congress and the White House got us into the position; the TEA Party offered a different way out of it.
WaPo wuvs Boehner because he's so compliant...
Rather than revisit their strategy of supporting Republicans after this week's postponement of the inevitable near-disaster, influential organizations such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce are standing behind Boehner. More important, Boehner's friends in the business community are getting ready to take sides in a few Republican primary races against tea party candidates in Michigan, Idaho and Alabama who could cause the House speaker more trouble.
Re-elect Rhinos!
Boehner, who was once president of a small plastics company in Ohio, has spent much of his career burnishing the GOP's identity as the party of business, building deep relationships since the 1990s with groups like the U.S. Chamber by providing legislative favors and easy access through countless receptions and rounds of golf.
At least he hasn't been accused of selling influence to top dollar.
He's just the leader of the minority branch of the Fusion Party that wants to run everything in Washington. His biggest crime is that he's happy with taking table scraps after being kicked around...
In return, business groups have helped Boehner and his counterparts in the Senate raise millions of dollars to put Republicans in office, including the 2010 election of tea party lawmakers who have now roiled the GOP.
TEA Party - the only adults in the room.
It's this decades-long relationship that helps explain why even as one wing of the Republican Party threatened to drive the economy off a cliff by going in another direction, the business community has largely stuck by its party -- and its man, Boehner.
Just keep pushing the cliff back, boys. Someone else will have to face it!

#4  Our debt is out of control, The tea Party wants it fixed. Health care-Obama Care- will be the second largest wealth redistribution plan ever, the Tea Party wants to stop that. The President and the Dems are openly attacking out constitution, the Tea Party wants to protect it. Congressional leaders that have no spine and cry on TV are good, The Tea Party want congress to do their job and protect America's treasures. The status quo is being challenged, all the guns are focused on the Tea Party. No one wants their pork taken away so the budget will be balanced. Bad Tea Party.
Posted by: 49 Pan || 10/18/2013 12:18 Comments || Top||

#5  Oh, and the largest wealth redistribution is on going and draining the American treasures as we speak. The Fed has given every cent America has away and now they are giving every cent we will ever have away. By raising the debt we have new overlords above us, mostly China. But the real redistribution is what they are doing with the debt.
They are giving the money to the banks at near zero interest. The hope was the banks would pass it on and open home loans up etc... But Obama knew better. The banks are investing the money and using it elsewhere. They are not reinvesting it into the United States. The Stock Market is all the further you need to go to see this. The debt went up and so did the stock market. This is flat backward. The Banks have looted America. The last two weeks of Tea Party fighting was America's last stand against this, like the Alamo they were crushed. I can only hope with the mandates now in place it will be remembered like the Alamo, and people will hold their elected official accountable and vote them out. If they don't, we should empower them all for life, voting will be just a popularity event.

We will end up like the Muslim country that accidently reported the election results before the people voted.

Iraq
Splodydope kills
 15 in Mosul region
A suicide bomber detonated a vehicle rigged with explosives in a village in northern Iraq on Thursday, killing 15 people, while two died in other attacks, officials said.

The suicide bombing tore through a residential area of Al Muwaffaqiyah, a village east of Mosul that is mainly populated by members of the Shabak minority.

A bomb also exploded near the house of a Shabak family in Mosul itself, killing a child and wounding three people, while a policeman was gunned down in his home south of the city. The 30,000-strong Shabak community mostly live near Iraq’s border with Turkey.

Caribbean-Latin America
Deadly Drug Cartel Shootout With Mexico Police Linked To "Grenade-Walking" Scandal
by Sharyl Attkisson
... of Operation Fast & Furious fame...
[CBS] CBS News has learned of a shocking link between a deadly narco mob shootout with Mexican police last week and a controversial case in the U.S. The link is one of the grenades used in the violent fight, which killed three coppers and four cartel members and was captured on video by residents in the area.
What odds this is what the NSA was monitoring on her laptop, causing it to behave oddly?
According to a Justice Department "Significant Incident Report" filed Tuesday and obtained by CBS News, evidence connects one of the grenades to Jean Baptiste Kingery, an alleged firearms trafficker U.S. officials allowed to operate for years without arresting despite significant evidence that he was moving massive amounts of grenade parts and ammunition to Mexico's ruthless narco mobs.

The shootout took place last week in Guadalajara. Authorities say five members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel used at least nine firearms and ten hand grenades against Mexican police. If one of the grenades was supplied with the help of Kingery, as believed, it adds to the toll of lives taken with weapons trafficked by suspects U.S. officials watched but did not stop.

The Kingery case was overseen by the same Arizona U.S. Attorney and ATF office that let suspects traffic thousands of weapons to Mexican narco mobs in the operation dubbed Fast and Furious. The strategy was to try to get to the cartel kingpins, but it was halted after CBS News reported that Fast and Furious weapons were used by cartel thugs in the murder of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry on December 15, 2010. Weapons trafficked by other ATF suspects under surveillance were used two months later in the cartel murder of Immigration and Customs Agent Jaime Zapata in Mexico on February 15, 2011.

Discussions held on Baby Bhutto's election as MNA
[Dawn] Former president Asif Ali Zardari has held discussions on getting his son, Bilawal Baby Bhutto Zardari
...Pak dynastic politician, son of Benazir Bhutto and grandon of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. As far as is known, Bilawal has no particular talents other than being pretty and being able to memorize political slogans, but he had the good luck to be born into the right family and he hasn't been assassinated yet...
elected as a member of the National Assembly, DawnNews reported.

To achieve this, the possibility of Bilawal standing from NA-204 Larkana was looked into. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari turned 25 years old on September 21.

Former Sindh law minister Ayaz Soomro had been elected from NA-204 constituency in the previous election.

To vacate the seat Ayaz Soomro could be given responsibilities in the Sindh Government.

Separately, Asif Ali Zardari said during a speech in Naudero that the Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) would support the Pakistain Musselmen League-Nawaz (PML-N) on each decision that would benefit the country.

Moreover, the former president said that if the ongoing Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
operations had not been supported, then the situation in the country would have worsened, adding that all issues would be resolved once the security situation of the country improved.

PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Faryal Talpur, MNA Mohammad Ayaz Soomro and several party workers were also present during the Eid celebrations.

The Grand Turk
Report: Turkey Blows Cover Of Israeli Spy Network In Iran
[Jpost] Turkey disclosed to Iranian intelligence the identity of up to ten Iranians who were allegedly spying on Tehran for Israel, journalist David Ignatius wrote in a column published in The Washington Post on Thursday.

According to Ignatius, Ankara's decision to expose the alleged Mossad informants came early last year as Turkish-Israeli relations continued to deteriorate following the 2010 Mavi Marmara incident.

Ignatius cites sources as saying the Turkish action was a "significant" loss of intelligence for Israel, and "an effort to slap the Israelis."

The decision to reveal the identities of the spies was personally approved by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
According to Ignatius, the Mossad was running part of its Iranian spy network through Turkey. The Turkish intelligence conducts aggressive surveillance inside its borders, which enabled it to monitor covert Israeli-Iranian meetings.

Israel, Ignatius writes, ties Turkish intelligence chief Hakan Fidan to the Iranian intelligence. Despite that, Israel's ally the US continued dealing with Fidan on sensitive matters and Washington did not protest the Turkish action directly to Ankara.

Fidan, who is a key adviser to Erdogan, has "rattled" key allies in the past by revealing sensitive information collected by Israel and the US to Iran, according to Ignatius.

The decision to reveal the identities of the spies was personally approved by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to Ignatius. The columnist speculated that the premier's move may explain Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's initial refusal to apologize to Erdogan, who has made it a point to assume a more adversarial position toward Israel, in hopes of boosting Turkey's regional standing, over the deaths of Turkish civilians on the Mavi Marmara.

Ignatius cited assessments by American intelligence officials who believe that the Mossad was taken by surprise considering that the Israeli spy agency had to that point enjoyed a 50-year working relationship with Turkey.
According to Ynet, the Turks say they didn't tattle:
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu denied reports from Washington Post saying Turkey gave up names of Israeli spies operating on its territory. He added the publication was discrediting Turkey.

He said the claims against the head of the Turkish intelligence Hakan Fidan are "baseless".

Cameroon Ruling Party Wins Another Massive Majority in Parliament
[An Nahar] Cameroonian President Paul Biya's ruling party, in power for three decades, kept its grip on a massive parliamentary majority by sweeping up 148 of 180 seats, official election results showed Thursday.

However despite the victory, Biya's Cameroonian People's Democratic Movement (RDPC) lost five politicians compared to the 153 seats held previously.

Biya, 80, has ruled the central African nation since 1982, having taken steps to prolong his time in office, and his party is often accused by the opposition of electoral fraud and using state funds to finance election campaigns.

The Social Democratic Front (SDP) remains the main opposition party, and won 18 seats in the September 30 election, two more than held previously.

The RDPC also won a crushing victory in local elections held on the same day.

More than 40 submissions were made to the Supreme Court seeking the partial annulment of the vote, none of which were successful.

The government announced campaign funding totaling 1.7 billion CFA francs ($3.5 million, 2.6 million euros) and recently made half that sum available to parties contesting the election.

Syria Rebels Kill Jamaa Jamaa, Top Intelligence Officer
[An Nahar] Rebels have killed a top intelligence officer in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor, Syrian state media said on Thursday.

"Major General Jamaa Jamaa was martyred while carrying out his national duties to defend Syria and its people and pursuing snuffies in Deir Ezzor," state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
said in a breaking news alert.

Jamaa was head of military intelligence in the province, where the regime has been battling armed opposition fighters seeking to overthrow Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...

State media gave no immediate details on where in the province Jamaa was killed or how, but jihadist forums said he died during festivities with jihadist fighters in the city of Deir Ezzor.

Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights NGO, said initial reports suggested Jamaa had been shot by a sniper in the Rashdiya district of Deir Ezzor city, but there was no confirmation.

The group also reported fierce fighting between regime troops and rebels in several parts of the province, including the city, which is the largest in eastern Syria.

Jamaa was one of Syria's top security officers in Leb during Damascus's military deployment in the country between 1976 and 2005.

He was interrogated over the February 2005 liquidation of former premier Rafik Hariri though he was not charged in connection with his death.

In 2006, the U.S. Treasury Department announced it was blacklisting him and another Syrian general for their role in supporting "terrorist groups" and over the presence in Leb.

Israel Strike Coming?
[WashingtonTimes] Talks in Geneva on Iran's nuclear program are triggering fears within U.S. intelligence agencies that Israel is hardening its stance on Iran and could conduct a military attack to stave off what the Jewish state believes is a delaying tactic for Tehran to buy time to build nuclear weapons.

The clearest indicator of growing Israeli concerns, according to defense officials, is the recent large-scale Israeli air force drill Tuesday in the northern part of the country. The exercises along the northern border and over the Mediterranean were considered unusually large.

An Israeli defense source told Israel's Walla! news outlet: "Changes have recently occurred in the Middle East. The [Israeli Defense Force] is preparing for those changes in both the closer and more distant perimeters, and yesterday's exercise was intended to signal the IDF's serious intention of dealing with those problems and thwarting them."

Additionally, Israeli air forces conducted long-range fighter exercises last week involving in-flight refueling practice.

The talks in Geneva have produced press reports that the B.O. regime is preparing to ease sanctions on Iran following conciliatory statements by Iranian Prime Minister Hassan Rouhani at the U.N. last month.

Iraq
At Least 60 Killed, Hundreds Wounded in Iraq Bombs
[An Nahar] A series of boom-mobiles hit Storied Baghdad
...located along the Tigris River, founded in the 8th century, home of the Abbasid Caliphate...
province on Thursday, killing at least 44 people, while 22 died in other attacks, including two suicide kabooms in northern Iraq, officials said.

The attacks come as Iraq witnesses its worst violence since 2008, when the country was just emerging from a brutal sectarian conflict.

The violence, which has included sectarian attacks, has raised fears of a relapse into the intense bloodshed that peaked in 2006-2007 and killed tens of thousands of people.

Eleven boom-mobiles went kaboom! in eight areas in and around the Iraqi capital on Thursday, killing at least 44 people and wounding more than 120, officials said.

More attacks, including two suicide kabooms, were carried out in northern Iraq.

One jacket wallah detonated a vehicle rigged with explosives in a residential area of Al-Muwaffaqiyah, a village east of djinn-infested Mosul that is mainly populated by members of the Shabak minority, killing 15 people and wounding 50.

Another bomber, wearing police uniform, detonated an explosives belt in a cafe in the town of Tuz Khurmatu further south, killing four people and wounding 27.

Another bomb went kaboom! near the house of a Shabak family in djinn-infested Mosul itself, killing a child and wounding three people, while gunnies killed one policeman and maimed a second in an attack in the city and killed another to its south.

The 30,000-strong Shabak community mostly live in a pocket of villages east of djinn-infested Mosul.

They speak a distinct language and traditionally practice a blend of Shiite Islam and local beliefs, which has made them a target for attack by gunnies who regard them as heretics.

Afghanistan
Ulema Council Denounces Jamal Assassination as 'Un-Islamic'
[TOLONEWS] During the funeral ceremony of Arsala Jamal, the recently assassinated Governor of Pashtun-infested Logar province, a number of Ulema Council Members highlighted the use of the Holy Qur'an as a hiding place for the bomb that killed the Governor, condemning it as a gross offense to Islam.
I dunno what's "un-Islamic" about it. Just another human sacrifice. Allan demands them, y'know.
At the ceremony held in Kabul, where a number of Jamal's relatives were accompanied by high-ranking government officials, the Ulema Council Members called the attack "un-Islamic" and accused bully boyz of flouting the very precepts of Islam they claim to defend.
I guess they're talking about hiding the bomb in the Koran. But it's okay if Moslems do it, I think. It sez so in the Koran someplace. You could look it up.
Although the Taliban was quick to deny responsibility for the bombing,
"No, no! Certainly not!"
which occurred on the first day of Eid celebrations while the Governor was beginning a speech at a mosque in Pul-e-Alam, most have assumed bad boy involvement.
Oh, pshaw. No way!
"The Ulema Council and High Peace Council condemn the attack, it was an illegal act," said Shahzada Shahed, a member of the Ulema Council that attended the funeral ceremony. "It was an Eid day, a day of happiness, when we would never expect such an incident, one where the Holy Qur'an is used."
Is it still a Koran when it's hollowed out and filled with explosives?
The comments came a day after the National Directorate of Security (NDS) announced that through investigations it became evident the bomb that killed Jamal and maimed nearly twenty others was hidden inside the mosque's Holy Qur'an. This contradicted earlier reports that the device had been stashed inside the microphone used by the Governor.
Regardless, it was still in a mosque, so it's theologically allowed. The Profit himself woulda done the same.
The Ulema Council members joined an outpouring of condemnations
Widespread tut-tuttery...
that flowed from Afghans and foreigners alike since news of the liquidation broke. In addition to Afghan officials in Kabul and other provinces, the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
(UN) and U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan James Cunningham issued harsh denunciations of the killing as well as words of empathy to Afghans.

During the funeral ceremony on Thursday, Pashtun-infested Logar Provincial Council Deputy Ghulam Yahya praised Jamal for his service and performance while Governor. Reportedly, the Pashtun-infested Logar Governor was expected to be appointed to Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Interior in the near future.

Jamal had been the target of a number of attacks that he was able to thwart while Governor of Khost province
... across the border from Miranshah, within commuting distance of Haqqani hangouts such as Datta Khel and probably within sight of Mordor. Khost is populated by six different tribes of Pashtuns, the largest probably being the Khostwal, from which it takes its name...
prior to holding office in Pashtun-infested Logar.

Tuesday's liquidation was not the first time a Pashtun-infested Logar Governor had been assassinated. Back in 2008, then provincial governor Abdullah Wardak was killed by a remote control mine detonated by Taliban bully boyz as he departed his house.

The circumstances surrounding Jamal's death also beared resemblance to the 2010 Taliban liquidation of Kunduz Governor Mohammad Omar, the last time a provincial governor was killed in Afghanistan. Omar was similarly targeted and killed by a bombing inside of a mosque during the month of October.

Angolan Troops Invade Congo, 'Kidnap Soldiers', Say Locals
[An Nahar] Angolan soldiers have invaded the southwest of the neighboring Republic of Congo in pursuit of rebels and allegedly taken Congolese troops hostage, local sources said Thursday.

Last weekend, the Angolan troops entered the region of Kimongo, a main town in the Niari district, and took charge of five places including the border post, a local resident and a journalist told AFP.

"They have been there since Sunday and claim they have come to occupy an area that belongs to them. We may consider this as a problem of them not knowing where the frontier lies," said Christian Samuel Sansa, an officer in the paramilitary police based in Dolisie, Congo's second military region.

Congolese troops who were dispatched from Dolisie to Kimongo were reported to have been kidnapped and led over the border into Angola.

"Our soldiers were taken hostage. Up to this morning (Thursday), things haven't changed, so they are still in the hands of the Angolan army," said Hermann Bouess, another local journalist.

"Among the placed in durance vile
You have the right to remain silent...
soldiers, there are a colonel and a captain," Bouess said, adding that the "Angolan troops were pursuing (rebels) of the Front for the Liberation of the Cabinda Enclave (FLEC) on to Congolese territory, which they use as a rear base."

Colonel Sansa confirmed this report, but could not say how many Congolese soldiers had been taken, while a source in the military general staff refused to comment on the affair.

"The consuls of Angola in Dolisie and of the Congo in Angola are talking to the respective authorities of the two countries to find a way out of this situation," Sansa told AFP.

Angola's Cabinda province is an exclave that borders on Congo to the north, while being separated from the rest of Angola to the south by a sliver of territory belonging to the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
Though small, Cabinda accounts for much of Angola's oil production, which makes the country the second largest exporter in Africa. The FLEC and other separatist rebel movements have fought Angolan troops since independence in 1975.

The Congo Republic, Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have signed a non-aggression pact and in 1997, Angolan troops helped President Denis Sassou Nguesso to fight his way back to power in a civil war.

Gadhafi Spy Chief Appeals ICC Move to Defer Trial to Libya
[An Nahar] Lawyers for the former spy chief of slain dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...a reminder that a single man with an idea can change an entire nation, usually for the worse...
on Thursday launched an appeal against the International Criminal Court

's historic ruling that he should be tried in Libya.

The ICC ruled last week that Abdallah al-Senussi, 63, should face trial in Libya, the first time it has deferred a case to a national judiciary.

ICC judges concluded the case was "inadmissible before the court, in accordance with the principle of complementarity," ending a lengthy legal tug-of-war between authorities in Libya and the court based in the The Hague.

The ICC's founding document, the Rome Statute, says the court cannot try suspects if they are receiving a fair trial on similar charges in a domestic court.

But lawyer Ben Emmerson argued in an appeal made public Thursday that Libya was "unable and unwilling genuinely to conduct fair proceedings" against his client in Libya.

Judges had "erred in finding that his case was inadmissible before the ICC," charged Emmerson.

"He has been tossed in the clink

in Libya for nearly 13 months without access to any lawyer despite his repeated requests to see a lawyer ... he is cut off from the world and has been denied family visits and telephone calls," added Emmerson.

court is to decide on October 24 whether to indict Senussi, among 20 senior figures from Qadaffy's regime charged with killing protesters during the 2011 revolt that toppled him.

The court will also decide the fate of Qadaffy's son Seif al-Islam, who is also wanted in The Hague.

The ICC said on Friday that its decision over Senussi held no bearing on the case against Seif.

U.S. to Sell $10.8 bln in Missiles, Bombs to Saudis, UAE

and the United Arab Emirates $10.8 billion worth of missiles and munitions, including "bunker-buster" bombs.

The move follows a series of U.S. weapons deals in recent years that have bolstered the air power and missile arsenals of Gulf states, which view Iran as a menacing rival with nuclear ambitions.

The pending sale comes as the United States and five other major powers pursue high-stakes diplomacy on Iran's disputed nuclear program, with talks this week portrayed as positive by both sides.

Officials said the Defense Department notified Congress this week of the planned deal that will provide a thousand bunker-buster GBU-39 bombs to the Saudis and 5,000 to the UAE.

The sale will also include sophisticated air-launched cruise missiles that can hit targets from a long distance.

The weapons are designed for use by U.S.-made F-15 and F-16 fighter jets previously purchased by Soddy Arabia

and the UAE, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).

In 2010, Israel bought the same bunker-buster "precision-guided glide bombs," fueling speculation that it was preparing for potential pre-emptive air strikes against underground nuclear sites in Iran.

The proposed sales "will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States" by improving the security of friendly countries that remain forces for "stability," the DSCA said.

Suspected Palestinian Terrorist Shot Dead Trying To Enter IDF Base In West Bank
[Jpost] Younis Obaidi from Beit Hanina drives tractor into an army base near Al-Ram, southeast of Ramallah, breaching the base's perimeter fence; IDF soldiers shoot and kill suspected terrorist; one soldier lightly injured in incident.

A Paleostinian terrorist was rubbed out after trying to enter an IDF base in the West Bank by breaching the base's fence with a tractor, the army said on Thursday evening.

According to an initial report from the IDF, Younis Obaidi from Beit Hanina drove the tractor towards a base near Al-Ram, southeast of Ramallah, and managed to cross the base's perimeter fence.

An IDF soldier was lightly injured by the tractor.

Obaidi arrived at the base and directed his vehicle towards the IDF soldier guarding its entrance, according to a Channel 2 report.

The guard entered into the base to ask if the tractor had authorization to enter.

At this point, Obaidi took advantage of the guard's absence and drove through the entrance barrier of the base and started driving quickly inside the base.

The guard began to chase the tractor and yelled for him to stop but Obaidi continued, recklessly hitting vehicles parked inside the base.

An officer joined the first soldier and the two fired at the tractor driver, seriously injuring him. Obaidi passed away from his wounds shortly thereafter.
Ynet adds:
IDF soldiers securing the A-Ram army base, near Ramallah, shot the Paleostinian, who was initially treated by military physicians before being pronounced dead. The army said the soldiers felt they were in a life-threatening situation and opened fire on the tractor.

Paleostinian sources identified the terrorist who breached the IDF base as Younis Radeideh. The sources told Ynet the terrorist's brother, also attempted to carry out a terrorist attack with a tractor, in 2009. The security established received information indicating that the Paleostinian who broke into the IDF base is in fact the brother of the terrorist from 2009, but the identification process has yet to be completed.

The brother, Mir'i Radeideh, tried to run over two coppers in Jerusalem. The two officers were mildly injured, and Radeideh was shot by a cab driver and later died of his wounds.

Younis' family resides in Al-Ram, north of Jerusalem, but it is originally from the Paleostinian village located east of Bethlehem. He was apparently driving a tractor that belonged to his family.

An initial investigation revealed that the Paleostinian managed to enter the base and caused damage to property. Before being shot he tried to lift a parked IDF jeep with the tractor.

Hezbollah Claims To Have Captured Israeli Spy-Bird
[Ynet] Hezbollah TV claims eagle with Israeli tags, Israeli-made radio transmitter captured in Leb. Park's authority: Bird born in captivity, released into wild two years ago

Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar TV has published images of an eagle, allegedly armed with spy equipment inscribed with the word "ISRAEL."
Holmes! How do you do it?
According to the report, the alleged spy-eagle was captured in the Lebanese town of Achkout by amateur hunters and had transmission equipment tied to its leg which indicated a connection to the Tel Aviv University.

The Nature and Parks Authority said that the eagle was born in a breeding and reacclimation center in southern Israel, and was released into the wild some two years ago.

According to the Al-Manar TV report, the eagle had an external transmitter attached to its body and another internal transmitter planted into its body. According to the Lebanese station, recruiting spies from the animal kingdom is a well-known Israeli practice. According to report, wiretapped fowl have in recent years been found in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Turkey and Egypt. Ynet has reported similar claims from Iran, in which 14 squirrels were locked away
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
for spying, and Sudan.

Last September, the British Daily Mail reported that a white stork called Menes was caught in Qena, Egypt and held by authorities on suspicion of being used to spy for Israel, due to the tracking device attached to its leg.

At Ynet's request, the Nature and Parks Authority examined the number inscribed into the bird's tag. According to them, the captured raptor is a Bonelli's Eagle, one of Israel's rarest and endangered birds of prey.

According to Ohad Hatzofe, the authority's chief avian ecologist, the bird hatched in the Carmel Hai-Bar Nature Reserve during the spring of 2011 and was released from captivity into December of the same year.

"The specimen is carrying a tiny radio transmitter, and in the picture you can see its feathers have already begun to change, and it is possible he will start mating in 2014 the spring when he reaches sexually maturity."

Tagging birds is a common practice in ornithology as it helps scientists track bird migration routes.

Last June, Turkish authorities claimed to have "cleared a renegade bird captured in the Ağın district of the eastern province of Elazığ on suspicions of working for Israel's state-of-the-art intelligence agency," the Hurriyet newspaper reported.

According to the report by the Turkish newspaper, residents of Altınavya village became suspicious that the little kestrel could be more than a bird that lost its way when they found it wore a metallic ring stamped with the words "24311 Tel Avivunia Israel," and delivered it to the district governorate.

Afghanistan
US may use Romanian airbase for Afghan pullout
[Dawn] The United States is close to a deal with Romania that would see American troops return home from Afghanistan via an air base on the Black Sea, officials said Thursday.

The proposed agreement would solve a major logistical hurdle facing the US as it pulls out the bulk of its combat forces and gear from Afghanistan over the next year.

Under the arrangement, troop flight operations would shift to Romania from Manas airbase in Kyrgyzstan, where a lease expires in July 2014, US defense officials told AFP.

The tentative plan will be discussed Friday when Pentagon chief Chuck Hagel hosts Romania's Defence Minister Corneliu Dobritoiu for talks, said two Pentagon officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity. "The final details are being worked out," said one of the officials.

The logistics of the US withdrawal are "phenomenally complicated," the official said. "And this was a key piece of the puzzle." The possible agreement reflected "a growing relationship between the United States and Romania, which is in a strategically vital part of the world," he added.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Peace Now: Israel Steps Up Settlement Housing Starts
[Ynet] Leftist group says there were 1,708 housing starts in January-June this year, compared with 995 during same period in 2012. 'Settlements have not destroyed two-state solution,' it says on its website

Housing starts in Jewish settlements in the West Bank are up by 70% this year, the anti-settlement Peace Now group said on Thursday, despite reports Israel has been quietly delaying new construction.

The figure related to the first six months of 2013 - before Israeli-Paleostinian peace talks resumed in July - and was likely to deepen Paleostinian concern over the pace of settlement building on land they seek for a state.

According to Peace Now, which opposes and tracks settlement activity in territory Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war, there were 1,708 housing starts in January-June this year, compared with 995 during the same period in 2012.

It said that 61% of the construction starts were in isolated settlements outside larger settlement blocs that Israel has said it intends to keep in any future land-for-peace deal.

In May, Israeli media reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had ordered a freeze in tenders for new housing projects in West Bank settlements in an apparent attempt to help revive US-backed peace talks stalled for three years.

Peace Now said at the time that no new bids from contractors had been solicited for settlement housing since a visit in March by US President Barack Obama
Ready to Rule from Day One...
But in its new report, the group said the "tender moratorium" had little impact on construction because 86% of the building that began in the first six months of this year took place in areas where a bidding process was not required.

A key partner in Netanyahu's governing coalition, the far-right Habayit Hayehudi party, and members of his own right-wing Likud have publicly urged him to continue to strengthen settlements.

There was no immediate Paleostinian comment on Peace Now's findings, issued during a Mohammedan holiday when Paleostinian Authority offices are closed in the West Bank.

Statistics on settlement starts were not immediately available from the government. It rarely contests figures provided by Peace Now, which bases its analysis on aerial photos of settlements and field visits.

The settlements that Israel has built in the West Bank and east Jerusalem are considered illegal by most countries. Israel cites historical and biblical links to the areas, where about 500,000 Israelis now live alongside 2.5 million Paleostinians.

In new commentary on its website, Peace Now said that while "settlements may have destroyed trust" between Israel and Paleostinians, "they have not destroyed the two-state solution."

The group said the number of settlers in the West Bank may have tripled in the 20 years since the Oslo interim accords were signed, but 64% of that growth was in areas likely to remain in Israeli hands in any land swaps with the Paleostinians.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Security a concern for weapons inspectors in Syria
The blasts underscore the risky nature of the team’s work amid ongoing fighting in Syria’s devastating civil war, but have not prevented progress.

Car bombs and mortar shells have exploded close to the hotel where chemical weapons inspectors are staying in the Syrian capital in recent days, but officials said Thursday there is no way of knowing if the team is being deliberately targeted.

In the past five days, mortar rounds have twice exploded close to the hotel and car bombs have been detonated, Malik Ellahi, a senior official at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, told a small group of reporters at the organization’s headquarters.

“In terms of the security situation there are always concerns but the team so far has, with the cooperation of the Syrian authorities, managed to conduct its work unimpeded,” Ellahi said.

The OPCW is working with the United Nations in an unprecedented disarmament mission in Syria, attempting to destroy the country’s chemical arsenal by mid-2014 — the first time its inspectors have been sent into the heart of a civil war.

Ellahi said the team is approaching the halfway mark of the first phase of its mission — to verify Syria’s initial declaration of its weapons program and render production and chemical mixing facilities inoperable by Nov. 1. The team already has visited 11 locations since it started work Oct. 1 and carried out destruction work at six of them.

In the first phase of the disarmament plan, inspectors are making production facilities inoperable by smashing control panels on machines and are destroying empty munitions.

“Cheap, quick and low-tech. Nothing fancy,” OPCW spokesman Michael Luhan said of the destruction activities so far. Later in the mission, the work gets more complex and dangerous when actual chemical weapons have to be destroyed. Negotiations are still underway as to how and where that will happen.

So far, inspectors have found no discrepancies between what Syria declared when it signed up to the Chemical Weapons Convention last month and also have found no “weaponized” chemical munitions — shells ready and capable of delivering poison gas or nerve agents.

One of the key issues facing the team is access to sites close to rebel-held areas. The organization has said it may have to negotiate short-term cease-fires to get to certain sites.

Ellahi said “few” of the more than 20 locations the inspectors have to visit will be tough to access.

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Chad and Nigeria were elected by the UN General Assembly on Thursday to serve a two-year term on the UN Security Council as human rights groups called for all three countries to improve their records.

Chile and Lithuania also won seats on the 15-member council. There are five veto-wielding permanent council members - the United States, Britannia, La Belle France, Russia and China - and 10 temporary members without veto power.

The group elected on Thursday will replace Azerbaijan, Guatemala, Pakistain, Morocco and Togo on the Security Council on Jan. 1, 2014. They were unopposed, but had to obtain approval from two-thirds of the 193-member General Assembly.

Of the 191 UN members who voted, Lithuania won 187 votes, Chile and Nigeria each picked up 186 votes, Chad secured 184 votes and Saudi Arabia 176 votes.

Terror accused calls off hunger strike; Mother 'so happy' after speaking to her son for the first time since his capture by CIA agents
[Shabelle] THE mother of a former Haverstock School pupil being held on terrorism charges in America has told the New Journal that her son has ended his hunger strike and is in high spirits.

She spoke to him on Friday for the first time since his capture by CIA agents 16 months ago.

Kaltum Hashi said she almost passed out and feared she was having a "heart attack" after being contacted by the Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI).

Her son, Mahdi Hashi, 24, who grew up in Gilbey's Yard, Chalk Farm, is due to appear in a New York court next month charged with being part of "an elite jacket wallah programme" in Somalia and having "knowledge" of chemical weapon development by the myrmidon group Al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
He was nabbed
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
in Djibouti shortly after being stripped of his British citizenship by Home Secretary Theresa May in what leading human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
lawyers describe as a classic case of rendition and an "abuse of human rights".

Ms Hashi said: "When the FBI called they said they would phone back in 20 minutes and I could speak to him. I cannot describe what those minutes were like. I was fasting at the time and I felt weak, like my legs were giving way. I thought I might be having a kind of heart attack. Then very slowly I started to feel relief.

"They said that I could only speak in Somali and that I could not pass the phone to anyone else. It was very emotional for a mother. This was the first time in 16 months and I was just so happy."

She added: "I spoke to him for 25 minutes and he was asking lots of questions about his family -- his grandmother and my uncle have passed away since he went away. He asked about his son, Marwaan, who is 18 months old now, and his wife. He has not yet been allowed to talk to his wife.

"The time on the phone went very fast. He was asking about the people of Camden. He said he had been taken to hospital with liver problems -- people said he wasn't eating because of his religion, but it was a protest."

Mr Hashi attended Rhyl and Primrose primary schools before Haverstock and later received good behaviour certificates from Camden Mayor Roger Robinson in the Town Hall. He left Camden in 2009 after going public with claims he was being harassed by MI5 agents who wanted him to spy on Moslems in the borough.

He had been allowed into a room with a window for an hour to speak on the phone.

He is being held under special administrative measures, which typically mean 23-hours-a-day isolation and highly restricted contact with his family.

The indictment claims that Mr Hashi was "a long-standing member of Al-Shabaab and an associate of significant Al-Qaeda members operating in east Africa who sought to carry out attacks against the United States" and that "he has extensive weapons training and knowledge regarding Al-Shabaab developing chemical weapons". He has never been charged with any crime in this country.

A court date had been set for late November. Ms Hashi plans to travel to New York after she was told she could meet her son for an hour.

She said: "I have never been there before, and I would have to stay in a hotel. So the whole thing would be very difficult."

He calls himself the peoples guy, an outsider to politics, he has near total control over the media, he is willing to let people suffer for his goals, and on and on. What is the most dangerous of his tools are he has the youth believing in him and he has identified the patriotic as the problem in this country. His model is torn from the pages of Mein Kampf. Like Hitler and Mussolini he will betray his brown shirt base. I believe with his Obama care he has done just that.
His base point fingers, expect everyone else to pay for them, its everyone else's fault. Well kiddies, he is planning on his base to pay for this, they will be the ones his IRS goes after first. I for one will enjoy the irony of all of this...

Egypt should stop deporting Syrian refugees: Amnesty
CAIRO — Amnesty International accused Egypt on Thursday of unlawfully detaining and deporting hundreds of Syrian refugees, many of them women and children fleeing civil war at home.

“Instead of offering vital help and support to refugees from Syria, the Egyptian authorities are arresting and deporting them, flouting human rights standards,” Sherif Elsayed Ali, Amnesty’s head of refugee and migrants’ rights said in a statement. “Most refugees lost their homes and livelihoods when they fled Syria. Failing to help and protect them is a stain on the reputation of Egypt and could seriously damage its image as a key stakeholder in the region.”
Here's the problem, Sherif: first, most of the Syrian refugees aren't overly grateful. Not sure if that's a Syrian thing, an Arab thing or a Muslim thing, but they arrive in Egypt and start making demands. Second, in case you hadn't noticed, Egypt has problems of its own, starting with how it's going to feed all its own people. Finally, there's the small issue of the Syrian refugees being (for the most part) supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood, which the current Egyptian government is trying to suppress. Now it may amaze you, Sherif, but all these issues together make it difficult for the Egyptians to pay any serious attention to you.
Ali said Egypt was failing “abysmally to meet its international obligations to protect even the most vulnerable refugees.”
They could flee to Mauritania...
Amnesty said hundreds of refugees who fled Syria, including scores of children face, ongoing detention in poor conditions or deportation.

It said the Egyptian navy has intercepted around 13 boats carrying refugees from Syria in their attempt to reach Europe. Quoting the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, it said 946 people have been arrested by Egypt while attempting the crossing, and that 724 remain in detention.
That makes no sense. Egypt is not on a direct line from Syria (either Tarsus or Latakia) and Europe (either Greece or Cyprus).
Last week, Amnesty said 12 people drowned when a boat carrying refugees from Syria sank off the coast of Alexandria.

On October 3, more than 300 people, including several Syrians, died when their vessel capsized trying to reach the Italian island of Lampedusa.
That's an awfully long way to go from Tarsus to reach Europe.
Egyptian authorities say the country has taken in more than 100,000 Syrian refugees, with some trying to leave for Europe aboard overcrowded ships.

The media has often accused refugees of backing the Brotherhood and of being involved in political violence that erupted in Egypt after the ouster of president Mohammed Mursi.
And the current Egyptian government isn't exactly the most forgiving in that regard...
Amnesty said that, in most cases, those arrested are being kept in detention under orders of the national security agency, even after the public prosecution orders their release. Amnesty said that, during a visit to a police station in Alexandria, it found 40 Syrian refugees unlawfully and indefinitely detained there. Among them were 10 children — the youngest being one-year-old twins.

Several lawyers said they were prevented from representing refugees detained in police stations along Egypt’s Mediterranean coast, the group said.nLawyers also told Amnesty that, in at least two instances, refugees were collectively deported to Damascus.

“Egypt should be helping Syrians get back on their feet, not hindering them at every turn,” said Ali.
Egypt has enough trouble trying to help its own people get back on their feet. But don't worry, Amnesty will eventually demand that Uncle Sugar help out...

The Grand Turk
Analysis: Turkey's Unprecedented Act Of Betrayal Against Israel
[Jpost] If Turkey did blow cover of Israeli spy ring, it would violate unwritten code of conduct between allied intelligence agencies.

In April 2012, Iran announced that it had uncovered a spy ring numbering 15 operatives working at the behest of Israel. Iranian authorities fingered the operatives as being responsible for the killings of nuclear scientists in recent years. Tehran had long suspected the Mossad as the mastermind of these operations. In announcing the arrests, Iran touted the apprehension of "Zionist spies" and the revelations regarding "Zionist" intelligence activity in a neighboring country.

The announcement, which didn't garner much attention at the time, takes on added importance Thursday just hours after The Washington Post reported that Turkish intelligence revealed the identities of 10 Iranian spies working for Israel. According to the report, Iranian agents would meet with their Mossad handlers on Turkish soil.

This information was revealed by the newspaper's senior foreign affairs analyst, David Ignatius, a journalist who is known to maintain extensive contacts with both the American and Israeli intelligence communities. If the report is accurate -- and it is difficult to doubt the credibility of Ignatius' sources -- then we are talking about a very egregious -- even unprecedented -- act. In fact, this is the basest act of betrayal imaginable.

For over 50 years, Israel and Turkey were strategic allies. At the heart of this relationship were the extremely close ties between the Mossad and Military Intelligence on one hand, and the Turkish MIT and its military intelligence apparatus on the other hand. These ties were first established in 1958, and they were an integral part of the "Trident" partnership that also included Iran's intelligence services during the reign of the Shah. It was only recently that Israeli intelligence chiefs permitted archived, previously classified material about the nature of this special relationship to be released for public consumption.

This strategic alliance is manifest in the bi-annual meetings between the heads of Mossad and MIT as well as intelligence analysts and experts on both sides. This relationship was also characterized by the frequent exchanges of information about common enemies and adversaries in the region, including Iraq, Syria, and post-Islamic Iran.
Perhaps not so common as the Israelis thought, hmmm?
Even during the most tense periods in relations between the two countries, intelligence ties remained intact, even if they did cool somewhat. While intelligence work is often interest-driven, devoid of sentiment and cruel in nature, there are still unwritten rules of conduct that govern relationships.

If it is indeed guilty of blowing the cover off of the Israeli spy network, then Turkey blatantly violated these codes. Despite the deteriorating ties triggered by the violent Mavi Marmara incident of two years ago, Israel and Turkey have never been -- and are not today -- enemies.
Perhaps it is time reassess that statement, given what is clearly Prime Minister Erdogan's attitude.
According to foreign media reports, Turkey has long been a base of operations for Mossad agents operating against Iran. Nonetheless, it was only recently reported that an Iranian-Belgian businessman who was arrested in Israel on charges of being a spy for the Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force had created straw companies in Turkey to serve as a cover.

One may assume that Turkish intelligence was monitoring both Israeli and Iranian espionage activity taking place on its soil. Despite the caution and the efforts taken to maintain total secrecy even from close allies, it is possible that Turkish intelligence agencies discovered the Mossad apparatus and its ties with the Iranian network.

It was assumed that despite the bumpy road and tensions in relations, interests would trump all other considerations and smooth relations between the intelligence agencies would continue. Earlier this year, there were reports that Mossad chief Tamir Pardo met with MIT director Hakan Fidan in Ankara. According to Ignatius, Israeli officials wryly view Fidan as "Iran's station chief in Ankara." Though this statement was made with tongue firmly planted in cheek, it was meant to convey the sense that Fidan is perceived as very close to Iran.

If the Israeli spy network was indeed unveiled, it was done so at the order of Fidan and with the full approval of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. His obsessive animus toward Israel and his anti-Semitic tendencies are known to all.

Fears of clashes loom in Gedo region of Somalia
BELED HAWO, Somalia -- Fears of armed confrontations were reported from Gedo regional district of Beled Hawo in southern Somalia after forces loyal to Somalia's Jubaland administration retreated to Gedo region from the neighbouring Ethiopia border, Garowe Online reports.
You'll find an upazila in B-desh on TW's 1:100,000 map before you find Gedo...
True. But in the meantime, enjoy how the Juba River can be seen so clearly on the map to our right, in the lower purple area therein.
The Jubaland forces that completed a military training program in Ethiopia made temporary bases on the outskirts of Beled Hawo Town and crossed the border into Somalia according to eye witnesses. Pro-government militias, Ahlu Sunah officials in Gedo region said that they informed Jubaland forces to return to their previous positions.
"Hey! Youse guys! Go back to from where you came!"
"We would take action unless Jubba forces vacate their military bases," Ahlu Sunah official told the media via telephone from Beled Hawo.
Sure, tough guy. Say, you folks control Mog yet?
Local reports add that Beled Hawo town recently witnessed several bomb blasts which targeted the Somali Federal Government forces in the town, sparking new conflicts between the government troops and Ahlu Sunah.

Ahlu Sunah militias are said to have been integrated into Somali National Army.

Jubaland leader Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) declared that he wouldn't attend Mogadishu reconciliation conference which was called by the Mogadishu-based Federal Government while he was speaking to the press in the southern port city of Kismayo.

Britain
Briton convicted of 'enslaving and raping' trafficked Pakistani girl
[Dawn] A British citizen of Pakistani origin
... which is not the same as somebody named Nigel or Clive...
has been found guilty of trafficking a young girl into the UK, enforcing her into slavery and repeatedly raping her for over a decade, British media reported.
And nobody noticed, natch.
Ilyas Ashar, 84 and wife Tallat Ashar, 68, bought brought a young deaf and mute girl, aged 10, from Pakistan in 2000 and kept her at their home in Eccles, Salford, as a domestic slave.

A Manchester court on Wednesday heard that the girl trafficked from Pakistan was repeatedly violated by Ashar while compelled to work in slavery.

Ilyas was found guilty of 13 counts of rape against the girl who is now in her 20s. According to earlier reports, the girl described how she was allegedly hit with a rolling pin while forced to work for no money, made to sleep on a concrete floor in a bolted cellar and sexually abused.

When prosecutors had shown her a picture of Ilyas Ashar, she said: "He's the one who has sex with me."

The victim had moreover said that Ashar's wife would repeatedly strike her, sometimes when she made too much noise by setting dishes on the table.

Ashar and his wife also used the girl's details to steal more than £30,000 in benefits and set up several bank accounts in her name.

When details of the atrocities against the girl were read out, two female jurors started weeping. The judge, who was hearing the case, warned Ashar to expect a "substantial prison sentence".

The victim was discovered when trading standard officers came to the couple's residence to investigate allegations of illegal activities in 2009. The details of her ordeal surfaced after she was taught sign language by the couple to obtain benefits in her name, which enabled police to ask her questions.

During an earlier trial, Ashar had been convicted of two counts of illegally trafficking a person into Britain for exploitation, two counts of fabricating false information to claim a benefit and one of permitting furnishing of false information to claim a benefit.

Tallat Ashar and the couple's daughter were also convicted in the trial of furnishing information to claim benefits.

However, the jury was unable to reach a verdict on allegations of rape against Ilyas Ashar due to which a retrial was ordered, which was the subject of reporting restrictions until yesterday's convictions.

Ilyas Ashar was described as "pure evil" by the police, having lured and violated a defenceless victim who had no means of communicating with her family.

Ilyas and his wife will be sentenced on October 23 at Manchester Crown Court.

India-Pakistan
India, Pakistan have highest population of slaves in the world: report
[Dawn] Over 16 million or half the world's population of modern day slaves live in India and Pakistain, according to the inaugural Global Slavery Index published Thursday.

An estimated 30 million people worldwide are living in modern-day slavery, of which 2.1 million are in Pakistain and a staggering 14 million are based in India.

The report by the Walk Free Foundation ranks 162 countries on 'modern slavery' by using reports from governments and non-profit organizations as well as statistical estimates.

The Walk Free Foundation's definition of modern slavery includes slavery itself, as well as human trafficking and forced labour, and slavery-like practices such as debt bondage, forced marriage, and sale or exploitation of children.

According to the index, India has the highest total number of enslaved people in the world, between 13.2 million to 14.6 million, followed by China with 2.9 million enslaved people, and Pakistain with 2.1 million enslaved people.

According to estimates by the WFF report, over 1.2 per cent of the Pak population is enforced into in some form of slavery.

In India, this percentage rests somewhere around 1.13 per cent, while in China it is about 0.22 per cent.

Combined, both India and Pakistain house 54 per cent of the world's population of enslaved people.

The index also ranks countries on a slavery prevalence rating based on factors including ratio to country population.

Mauritania and Haiti rank among the countries with the highest prevalence of modern slavery. An estimated 4 per cent of West African nation Mauritania's population is living in some form of slavery.

Pakistain and India follow the list, ranked third and fourth respectively on prevalence of slavery.

Taken together, countries with the highest numbers of enslaved people -- India, China, Pakistain, Nigeria, Æthiopia, Russia, Thailand, Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
, Myanmar and Bangladesh -- account for 76 per cent of the total estimate of 30 million in modern slavery today.

The Walk Free Foundation is a Perth-based anti-slavery charity founded by Australian tycoon Andrew Forrest. The index has been endorsed by popular leaders including US Secretary Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as America's Blond Eminence and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Dean Acheson ...
, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, current Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, and philanthropists Richard Branson and Bill Gates.

The charity hopes the annual index will help governments monitor and tackle what it calls a "hidden crime".

The reason for the attack is unclear, although the source suggested that alcohol may have been to blame.

The central region Shield forces are drawn from places such as Misrata and Khoms.

Attacks on checkpoints have been almost unknown in Tripoli, unlike in Benghazi.

The Grand Turk
'Spies' In Iran - Apparently Kurds
[Ynet] Washington Post's report that Turkey disclosed to Iran names of individuals working with Mossad heightens Erdogan feud with National Kurdish Movement; the spies revealed -- apparently Kurdish

The "spies" who were reportedly working for Israel on Iranian soil were apparently Iranian Kurds. Thursday morning, David Ignatius reported in the Washington Post that Turkey revealed to Iran a network of Israeli spies working in the Islamic Theocratic Republic.

A source close to officials in the B.O. regime claimed that Ankara revealed to intelligence sources in Iran the identity of up to 10 "local" spies, who have met in Turkey with their Mossad handler.

The National Intelligence Organization (MIT) of Turkey and the Erdogan regime have a common interest to work against the national Kurdish movement, which operates in Syria and Turkey. Ankara and Tehran have been working together for many years to fight the movement on both ends of the border.

In the past it's been published that Israelis have tight diplomatic relationships with the Kurds in Iran, who fought against Sadam Hussein and who were trained by the IDF and Mossad operatives in Iraq and in Iran in the 70s, during the Shah's regime.

Senior Turkish officials were outraged by the American report, which they said was an attempt by foreign powers to hurt Turkey's status since they are not comfortable with its growing clout in the Mideast.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu dismissed the report, which he said was meant to discredit Turkey. He said the claims against the head of the Turkish intelligence Hakan Fidan are "baseless" and stressed that Turkey is committed only to the Turkish government and parliament.

Derna commander murdered
[Libya Herald] A local army commander, Brigadier Hussein Hinshir, was murdered this morning, at around 8am. He was shot in the Sahil Bin Nasser area.

He was one of officers who organised the resistance to Qadaffy during the revolution and helped found the Derna Martyrs Battalion. He was also commander of the Nasser Madhkur battalion which protected the town during the liberation war.

The identity of the killers is unknown although one Facebook site claimed that they were Qadaffy supporters who had dressed up to look like Islamists.

With -- according to its Congressman Abdulfatah Shalwi -- no functioning local council or security directorate, Derna is viewed as one of the most dangerous places in the country. Just six days ago, the head of the National Forces Alliance party in the town, Safowan Al-Masourie, survived an liquidation attempt. The previous day, a member of its Counter Crime Agency, Saad Abdulrazaq Al-Mansouri, was rubbed out by unknown gunnies while he was driving to work.

Two days earlier, air-defence police officer Abdulaziz Mahmoud Iddresi survived an attempt to kill him when an bomb attached to the underside of his car went kaboom! in front of his house. He was not in the vehicle at the time.

Like Hinshir, Iddresi also played a prominent role in the revolution.

Last month, a prominent local Sufi holy man, Sheikh Mustafa Rajab Al-Mahjoubi, was shot outside his home in the town.
