Man charged with setting Houston mosque afire
h/t Instapundit
A Houston man has been arrested in connection with a suspected arson at a mosque on Christmas Day, but the motive for the crime remains a mystery, with the suspect maintaining he was a regular at the mosque.

Affluenza Dope Deported from Mexico
A fugitive no more - Ethan Couch is bound for U.S. soil. In just a few hours, the so-called "affluenza" teen will reportedly be heading back to the Texas. Couch was serving a 10 years probation sentence after he was convicted of killing four people in a drunk driving crash.

CBS News has confirmed that Couch and his mother, Tonya, will leave Guadalajara, Mexico on a flight to Houston early this afternoon.
The authorities found him when he ordered a Domino's pizza on his cell phone. Maybe he's going for the Moron Defense.
Couch faces deportation back to the U.S.
He overstayed his visa and is being deported. Wotta concept!
Because the extradition is being handled as a deportation case by the Mexican government, it is likely Ethan and Tonya Couch will first fly through Houston as they head back to North Texas.
On the radio this morning, they said it was likely the pair would find a U.S. Marshall on the plane, who would arrest them both as soon as they hit U.S. airspace.
This is assuming some substantial competence on the part of our government, but I am willing to be amazed...

Planned Parenthood Performed 323k Abortions in 2014, Accepted $553.7m in Taxpayer Funds
[The Blaze] Planned Parenthood has released its 2014-2015 annual report at the conclusion of a year marked by controversy for the organization.
Appears Margaret Sanger's depopulation plan is coming along nicely.
"There never has been a more important time to stand for and with Planned Parenthood," Jill Lafer, the chair of Planned Parenthood, and Cecile Richards the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood, wrote in an opening letter. "We are at a critical moment in our history. Over the past several months, we have been tested in every way imaginable -- and have emerged stronger than ever."

The report states that "In the pages that follow, we present highlights from a year filled with achievements and breakthroughs."

#10  I am sure that they mostly charge the patients for the operation itself and shake the government down for "counseling services" in which they recommend that the patient get an abortion. This process would maximize their revenue and allow for the claim that tax dollars don't go to fund abortions. The government also probably funds Morning After pills which "aren't an abortion." Also the government may be paying for Planned Parenthood to sterilize people in other countries or provide other State Department services overseas.
Posted by: Super Hose || 12/30/2015 21:06 Comments || Top||

#11  According to the Planned Parenthood website, patients are charged on a sliding scale for abortions depending on ability to pay. If they have health insurance they are to bring their insurance card and i.d. when they come to the initial appointment.

California: Police May Confiscate Guns without Notice to Owner Starting January 1
[Breitbart] Beginning January 1, police in California may confiscate firearms from gun owners thought to be a danger to themselves or others without giving the owner any notice.

This is the result of the implementation of "gun violence restraining orders" (GVROs), which go into effect New Year's Day.

According to KPCC, GVROs "could be issued without prior knowledge of the person. In other words, a judge could issue the order without ever hearing from the person in question, if there are reasonable grounds to believe the person is a threat based on accounts from the family and police." And since the order can be issued without the gun owner even being present to defend him or herself, confiscation can commence without any notice to the gun owner once the order is issued.

To be fair, Los Angeles Police Department Assistant Chief Michael Moore does not use the word "confiscate" when talking about confiscating firearms. Rather, Moore says, "The law gives us a vehicle to cause the person to surrender their weapons, to have a time out, if you will."

KPCC reports that "California law already bans people from possessing guns if they've committed a violent crime or were involuntarily committed to a mental health facility." And now, with GVROs, California law allows judges to bar people from possessing guns even if they have not committed a violent crime or were involuntarily committed. Because of this, Gun Owners of California Executive Director Sam Paredes warns that GVROs "may create a situation where law-abiding gun owners are put in jeopardy."

Terror Networks
Coalition forces kill ISIS leader connected to Paris attack
[CNN] The U.S.-led coalition killed multiple figures within ISIS big shotship over the last few weeks, including an operative closely linked to the ringleader of the November attacks in Gay Paree, the front man for the coalition said Tuesday.

Col. Steve Warren said 10 senior ISIS leaders operating in both Iraq and Syria, "including several external attack planners," with designs on attacking western targets, had been killed in Arclight airstrikes.

Charaffe al Mouadan, a Syrian-based member of ISIS with a "direct link" to Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the Belgian-born ringleader of the terror attacks in Gay Paree, was killed in a December 24 Arclight airstrike, and was "actively planning additional attacks against the West," Warren said.

Abaaoud was killed in a police raid in the Gay Paree suburb of Saint-Denis last month and had direct contacts, the coalition said, with al Mouadan before the attacks took place, which killed more than 120 people.

In addition to al Mouadan, nine other figures focused on everything from planning attacks on Western targets to overseeing ISIS finances to the organization's hacking efforts were killed in Arclight airstrikes dating back to December 7.

Married couple with 'common interest' in violent jihad are GUILTY of plotting 7/7-style suicide attack
[DAILYMAIL.CO.UK] An aspiring jacket wallah and his secret wife who had a 'common interest' in violent jihad have been found guilty of planning an ISIS-inspired terror attack on London after testing lethal bombs in their back garden.
Another pair of common, everyday Pak names.
Mohammed Rehman, 25, planned to blow up either Westfield shopping centre or the London Underground to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the 7/7 bombings.

His jihadi dream was funded by his wife Sana Ahmed Khan, 24, who used payday loans to buy fertiliser which her husband engineered into bombs.

The court heard how the couple, who wed in secret in a traditional Islamic ceremony,
Why in secret? Did someone's parents disapprove?
immersed themselves in ISIS and Al Qaeda propaganda and idolised 7/7 bomber Shehzad Tanweer.

They even test fired one of their bombs in Rehman's back garden and recorded it on film.

Their plot was only foiled when Rehman - who called himself the 'silent bomber' - sent a tweet asking for advice on which was the best target.

As their plans gathered pace, Rehman asked his followers: 'Westfield shopping centre or London underground?'

The tweet - sent from a profile showing a photograph of Jihadi John - was accompanied by a link to the al Qaeda uncensored media release about the July 7 atrocities.

Officers then raided Rehman's home in Reading, Berkshire, where they found 10kg of nitrate explosives - double the amount of powder used in the failed 21/7 London bombings.

The prosecution said the would-be bomber was just days away from completing the device which would have caused multiple casualties in the capital.

After initial refusal, Pakistan allows entry to over 100 deported by Saudi Arabia
[DAWN] Pakistain on Tuesday refused entry to 120 Pak citizens deported by Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
for not having the requisite entry documents but later allowed entry to the deportees on orders of the interior ministry, airport sources said.

A flight from Jeddah carried the deportees to Lahore airport on Tuesday, however, immigration officials refused them entry as the deportees did not have the required documents needed for entry.

It was not clear why Saudi authorities deported the Pak citizens, at least 15 of whom were women.

Sources said immigration authorities wanted to send the deportees back to Jeddah after refusing to process their entry into Pakistain while Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials wanted to detain the deportees, as is the standard procedure.

However,
we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by...
the deportees were later allowed entry into the country by order of the interior ministry. FIA is now expected to take the deportees into custody.

23 Saudi women on trial over terrorism charges
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Sources told Al Arabiya News that twenty-three Saudi women accused of association with Al-Qaeda and ISIS are currently being tried in the Kingdom. Some of them have been convicted and locked away
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
According to official sources, the Special Criminal Court began hearing the cases of these female snuffies two years ago. They added that the most noteworthy case was that of Haila Al-Qaseer, who is known as "Lady Al-Qaeda," and who was convicted of terrorism and sentenced to 15 years in jail.

The court tried in October another woman, 27-year-old Um Oweis, who joined ISIS after pledging allegiance to His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi

and helping provide logistical services to terrorosm via media and found communicating with ISIS members and leaders of Al-Nusra Front through Twitter.

Umm Oweis has a master's degree from a Saudi university.

In December, the criminal court opened the case of "Al-MohajIra," 25-year-old female member of Al-Qaeda and ISIS who also served as a media member. She was charged with supporting and pledging allegiance to Al-Baghdadi, as well as encouraging killing in conflict zones and inside the Kingdom.

Lebanon seizes 5 tons of drugs at Beirut airport
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Lebanese customs seized five tons of Captagon amphetamine pills and hashish at Beirut airport on Tuesday, concealed in primary school desks that were to be shipped to Egypt, a security source said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the saw mill, Scarface Al had tied Little Nell to the log and was about to turn on the buzz saw...
security forces in northern Leb found two workshops producing Captagon and other drugs during a series of raids, the source said.

Both events came after a number of drug seizures at Beirut airport in recent months.

Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil said Tuesday's operation at the airport was one of the biggest of its kind, and that the drugs could have been smuggled onto other countries after Egypt, without elaborating.

"We will not allow Leb to be a transit point for drugs," he said, quoted by Leb's National News Agency.

The NNA said that the quantity seized was three tons. There were no immediate reports of arrests.

ISIS militants burn 20 media activists to death in Mosul

The victims, who have been placed in durance vile

in separate raids earlier this months, were executed on charges of leaking security information to "hostile parties".

After interrogations, the ISIS-led Sharia Court in Mosul issued a decision to burn the activists to death in a public square in al-Houd district in Mosul.

"The horrific execution was conducted in front of dozens of people in al-Houd, including some family members of the victims," a local source told ARA News under the condition of anonymity for security concerns.

"The victims were burned to death on charges of leaking information about the group's security movements in Mosul. However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
they have been reporting on the brutal atrocities carried out by Daesh [Islamic State] against civilians," the source said, using another acronym for ISIS.

"Their only crime was trying to deliver stories about the daily lives of citizens under Daesh [Islamic State] rule."

Over the past few years, dozens of media activists and journalists have been exposed to arrest, torture and execution at the hands of ISIS forces of Evil across Syria and Iraq.

The Grand Turk
Turks detain 9 Kurd pols for criticizing Turkey
[ARA] URFA – Turkish security arrested on Tuesday nine Kurdish politicians and members of the Democratic Peoples’ Party (HDP) in Izmir province.

The Turkish authorities accused the HDP members of supporting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) –which is in conflict with the Turkish army in the Kurdish region southeast the country.

Turkish state media reported that the arrested Kurdish politicians had raised pro-PKK slogans during a protest in Izmir.

Dozens of HDP supporters protested in the western province of Izmir against the ongoing military campaign by the Turkish army troops across the Kurdish region.

More than 10,000 Turkish army forces attacked the Kurdish towns of Cizre and Silopi in the southeastern province of Şırnak under the pretext of pursuing PKK rebels. The armed campaign has caused mass distraction in infrastructure and residential buildings in the targeted towns, leading to a mass displacement among Kurdish civilians after the death of dozens over the past two weeks.

In the meantime, the Turkish government accused prominent Kurdish politician and leader of the HDP, Selahattin Demirtaş, of “treason” for criticizing the military campaign against the Kurdish region, the Turkish involvement in the Syrian conflict and the downing of the Russian fighter jet over Syria.

Demirtaş has earlier called for a Kurdish autonomy in southeastern Turkey as a solution for the ongoing conflict in the country, a statement that has raised the government’s outrage and led to more constraints on the HDP’s activities.

Police arrest former Indian military officer for spy links
NEW DELHI: Delhi police say they have arrested a former Indian Air Force officer on charges of passing secrets to Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).

Police claimed on Tuesday that the man, accused of giving details of air force exercises to ISI, had fallen victim to a “honey trap”.

“Ranjith KK has accepted to have passed air force-related information pertaining to a recent air force exercise, movements of aircraft and deployment of various units in air force,” said Ravindra Yadav, Delhi police joint commissioner of crime, in a statement.

The arrest comes days after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a surprise visit to his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif to try to ease troubled relations.

The two nuclear-armed countries frequently accuse each other of spying on military activities.

Police alleged that ISI used a woman to lure him into passing on top-secret information through mobile phone and the internet.

“As per the investigation so far, it has been assessed that (he) was befooled by the cross-border spies,” Yadav added.

Criminal intelligence director in Zliten murdered
The head of the Counter Crime Agency in Zliten was killed today when a bomb exploded under his car. Mustafa Al-Toumi Ahmadi was rushed to hospital but died a few hours later from his wounds.

No one has claimed responsibility the murder, although it bears all the hallmarks of an attack by Ansar Al-Sharia or other militant extremists. However, Zliten has been relatively calm and stable throughout the couple of years during which other parts of the country have experienced chaos and killings, although last April the jail was attacked and a time bomb at the municipal buildings was diffused.

The town has been close both to the Muslim Brotherhood and to its alliance with Misrata, 40 kilometres further east. That alliance may explain the attack. Misrata has become a target for militants because of its opposition to them and its support for the UN-brokered Libya Peace Agreement.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran appoints new commander in Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) is appointing a new commander for its operations in Syria, replacing a senior general who died in October, according to a report from inside Iran by an opposition group.

Following the "large number of IRGC casualties in Syria, especially the death of General Hossein Hamedani, commander of the Iranian regime's forces in Syria, and injury to Commander of the IRGC Quds Force (QF) Qassem Soleimani, Ayatollah Khamenei appointed IRGC Brigadier General Mohammad Jafar Assadi the IRGC commander in Syria," the opposition group National Council of Resistance of Iran said.

The opposition council said that the guards's elite "Quds Force" continues "its extensive dispatch of mercenaries to Syria and that Khamenei.. who considers defeat in the war against Syrian people a lethal blow to the entirety of the velayat-e faqih regime [governance by jurists] is getting the Iranian regime and its Revolutionary Guards exceedingly bogged down in the Syrian quagmire."

It added that "Assadi is one of the most veteran commanders in the IRGC and a close associate of Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, the Guards' commander-in-chief. Assadi has many years of experience of involvement in the affairs of countries in the region. In Syria, he is known as Abu Ahmad."

Assadi "joined the IRGC in March 1980 and was one of the commanders of the war with Iraq.

He was commander of the IRGC in Leb from 2003 to 2007 and then commander of the IRGC Ground Forces from 2008 to 2009" according to the statement.

US snooping on Israel also caught talks with lawmakers
Barack Hussein Obama is this generation's Haman.
The U.S. captured communications from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his aides and swept up the content of private conversations with U.S. lawmakers, giving the Obama administration insight into Israel's lobbying efforts against the international nuclear deal with Iran, according to a new report.
Close call as to who Champ's bigger enemy is: Bibi or House Pubs...
At least Bibi is putting up a fight...
The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that the National Security Agency (NSA) swept up information that White House officials considered valuable as it sought to counter Netanyahu's vocal opposition to the nuclear deal between Iran, the U.S. and other world leaders.

Netanyahu reportedly remained a top priority for the snooping, according to the report, despite President Obama saying two years ago he would curb eavesdropping on allies.

The Journal also reported that White House officials were worried about the politics of asking for swept-up communications between Israeli officials and members of Congress, allowing the NSA to decide what to share.

"We didn't say, 'Do it,' " a senior U.S. official told the Journal. "We didn't say, 'Don't do it.' "
And everyone understood what was wanted...
NSA snooping allegedly found Netanyahu and his aides leaked details of the negotiations gained through Israeli spying, coordinated talking points with Jewish-American groups against the deal and asked those lawmakers who were undecided on the deal how it could get their vote, according to the report.

The Obama administration decided to shield leaders including French President Francois Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other North Atlantic Treat Organization (NATO) heads from NSA snooping, according to the report, while it omitted some including Netanyahu and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Obama maintained the monitoring of Netanyahu as it served a "compelling national security purpose," the newspaper reported, citing unnamed current and former U.S. officials.

Netanyahu spoke out against a potentially unsatisfactory nuclear deal during a speech to a joint session of Congress in March. The U.S. and five other world powers reached a deal in July.

The Israeli leader has previously criticized U.S. spying on Israel, which was revealed in documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden in 2013.
The Times of Israel adds:
Despite promising to curb eavesdropping on foreign leaders, White House had NSA listen in on conversations between Israeli leaders and US politicians, according to Wall Street Journal.

The White House instructed US spies to eavesdrop on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other top Israeli officials earlier this year in an effort to counter campaigning against the Iran nuclear deal, despite promising to curtail listening in on foreign leaders, according to a Wall Street Journal report late Tuesday.

The National Security Agency's spying dragnet was cast so wide it caught conversations Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders had with US officials and Jewish American leaders, leading to what one source called an "oh shit moment," when the extent became clear according to the report, which cites several current and former US officials.
Not quite the same as "We didn't say do it, we didn't say don't do it."
Though Obama promised in 2013 to curb American spying on foreign leaders, following revelations of NSA spying on allies leaked by whisteblower Edward Snowden, an official said the idea of stopping tracking Netanyahu was barely entertained.

"Going dark on Bibi? Of course we wouldn't do that," the paper quoted as senior US administration official saying, using a nickname for the prime minister.

According to the report, spying on Jerusalem included "a cyber implant in Israeli networks," giving the NSA access to information in Netanyahu's office.

After concerns were raised that the NSA was spying on conversations between US politicians and Netanyahu or other Israeli officials, the White House told the NSA to decide what info to give out, allowing them to mask the names of US citizens being spied on.

In October, the Wall Street Journal reported that the US spied on the Israeli air bases and secret communications in 2012, fearing an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities was in the works.

According to the report, "[n]erves frayed at the White House" when the US discovered Israeli air activity over Iran, and Washington dispatched an aircraft carrier to the Mideast and also prepared attack aircraft, in case, as one senior American official told the Journal, "all hell broke loose."

At the same time, US intelligence was monitoring Israeli communications to ensure that Jerusalem was unaware of secret backchannel meeting between the US and Iran taking place in Oman, the paper reported.
Update at 8:00 a.m. ET from the original Wall Street Journal report, which is worth going to the link to read:
Convinced Mr. Netanyahu would attack Iran without warning the White House, U.S. spy agencies ramped up their surveillance, with the assent of Democratic and Republican politicians serving on congressional intelligence committees.

By 2013, U.S. intelligence agencies determined Mr. Netanyahu wasn't going to strike Iran. But they had another reason to keep watch. The White House wanted to know if Israel had learned of the secret negotiations. U.S. officials feared Iran would bolt the talks and pursue an atomic bomb if news leaked.

The NSA had, in some cases, spent decades placing electronic implants in networks around the world to collect phone calls, text messages and emails. Removing them or turning them off in the wake of the Snowden revelations would make it difficult, if not impossible, to re-establish access in the future, U.S. intelligence officials warned the White House.

Instead of removing the implants, Mr. Obama decided to shut off the NSA's monitoring of phone numbers and email addresses of certain allied leaders--a move that could be reversed by the president or his successor.

Japan, wary of outsiders, keeps doors closed to refugees
Shogo Watanabe, a lawyer who has been helping refugees seek asylum for years, says the biggest problem is that Japan's immigration policy geared toward keeping people out.

"The immigration bureau's main focus is to prevent undesirable foreigners from entering the country," he said. "So accepting refugees is contrary to their main mission. They have little motivation to accept outsiders."
But then, maybe there is something to be said for a homogenous society. More at the link.

Afghanistan
The approaching offensive
[DAWN] ACROSS the world, spring is associated with rejuvenation and rebirth after a burdensome winter. Yet this logic skips Afghanistan. Here spring has been associated with death since 2003. One of the unintended consequences of the long military operation in Afghanistan has been its emulative nature; the adversary, in this instance the Taliban, has learnt the techniques normally used by states.

Its clearest proof was provided last year, when on April 22, the Taliban announced in a tone normally associated with government blurbs that, "The Islamic Emirate is going to launch the spring operations under the inspirational name of 'Azm' [determination] at 5am on the 24th of April". They added that the target of their operations would be the foreign occupiers and their Afghan supporters.

Such an announcement would have appeared farcical at best was it not for its deadly earnestness -- on the said date, 108 deadly attacks were launched throughout Afghanistan, involving attacks on many provincial headquarters.

Scuffle breaks out between Maulana Sherani, Ashrafi during CII meeting
[DAWN] A meeting of the Council for Islamic Ideology (CII) turned violent when a scuffle broke out between member Maulana Tahir Ashrafi and chairman Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani, DawnNews reported on Tuesday.

Sources at the meeting said participants were discussing the status of Ahmadis under the Constitution when Ashrafi, who is also chairman of the Pakistain Ulema Council, and Sherani entered into an argument that later turned personal.

In a presser later, Ashrafi said Sherani grabbed him by the collar and tore it. "He tore my collar with his own hands, " said Ashrafi. But according to an eye witness, Ashrafi had first lunged at Sherani to grab his collar.

According to Ashrafi, council members -- including himself -- were opposed to the idea of debating the status of Ahmadis because there already existed a consensus on the issue.

"He [Maulana Sherani] wants to make the law on Ahmadis controversial, and push the country towards violence."

Participants in the meeting intervened to defuse the situation and broke up the physical altercation.

However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
Maulana Sherani, talking to news hounds said, "Ahmadis are non-Muslims under the Constitution and there is a unanimous fatwa on that." He said the council had no intention of declaring Ahmadis Muslim.

Sherani said the matter was taken up by the council because the Ahmadi issue has been a bone of contention in society, with new fatwas on the matter appearing every other day.

The CII is a constitutional body that advises the legislature whether or not a certain law is repugnant to Islam, in particular to the Koran and Sunna.

ISIS troops get the hell out of Dodge withdraw from al-Bab
[ARA] ALEPPO – After two years of taking over the Syrian northwestern city of al-Bab, militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) have reportedly started evacuating their headquarters in the city, local sources confirmed on Tuesday.

Hundreds of ISIS militants were seen leaving al-Bab city and its suburbs towards the group’s main bastion of Raqqa.

Al-Bab, located in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo near the border with Turkey, has for long served as a transit point for foreign jihadists who crossed Turkey looking forward to joining ISIS ranks.

“The group started on Tuesday moving its militants and weapons from al-Bab and the surrounding villages towards Raqqa,” informed local sources told ARA News.

This comes amid a dramatic advance by the Syrian army forces towards al-Bab, supported by a Russian air cover.

Speaking to ARA News in al-Bab, media activist Muhannad al-Jassim said: “Even commanders of ISIS were seen leaving the city with their families. They all headed to Raqqa.”

“Apparently the evacuation will take some time, as hundreds of other militants are still stationed in the group’s headquarters in al-Bab and its suburbs,” Jassim said.

The source confirmed that ISIS has also removed most of its armored vehicles and heavy weapons from the area.

Backed by Russian warplanes, the Syrian regime’s military forces have recently recaptured large areas in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan Accuses Kurdish Chief Party of 'Treason' over Autonomy Call
[ALMANAR.LB] Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
on Tuesday accused the leader of the main Kurdish party Selahattin Demirtas of "treason" over his call for autonomy for the country's Kurdish minority.

In a speech at the weekend, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-chairman Demirtas said that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's largest ethnic minority had to decide whether to live in autonomy or "under one man's tyranny".

On Monday, prosecutors opened a criminal investigation against him for crimes against the constitutional order over suggesting Kurds should push for autonomy in their stronghold of the southeast of the country.

"What the co-leader has done is clearly provocation, treason," Erdogan told news hounds Tuesday at Istanbul airport before leaving for Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
"This is the time when the masks have been taken off and the real faces exposed," he said.

The charismatic 42-year-old Demirtas has emerged as Erdogan's key rival over the last year, with many commentators saying he is the only politician to rival the Turkish strongman's rhetorical skills.

Under party rules Demirtas shares the leadership of the HDP with a woman, Figen Yuksekdag.

In an address to HDP politicians in the parliament, Yuksekdag hit back, saying: "If there is a word to describe us, it's not treacherous but loyal. We are loyal to our peoples' struggle."

The state-run Anatolia news agency said the Pak suspects were tossed into the calaboose last week in a raid on their homes in Istanbul's central Mecidiyekoy district.

Police then expanded the operation based on intelligence the suspects provided and detained the British suspect, identified as Hasan H., at a bus stop in the conservative Fatih district, it added.

All have now been remanded in jug by a court.

Anatolia said that Hasan H. was believed to be linked to Aine Lesley Davis, a close associate of the notorious British IS Lion of Islam known as "Jihadi John" who Washington believes was likely killed in a recent drone strike in Syria.

Davis, a London-born British Muslim who turned to Islamist militancy, was among IS suspects detained in November in Istanbul the same day as the Gay Paree attacks, for allegedly planning to stage a parallel attack in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Rangers dilemma
[DAWN] SINDH continues to be an arena of a fight, with the provincial government confronting both the federal government and the paramilitary Rangers that the centre has posted in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, apparently overriding the objections of the province. As a result, a politico-constitutional crisis is brewing that may imperil the democratic dispensation in Sindh and beyond. Interestingly, all three contenders are justifying their respective stance on legal and constitutional grounds.

Rangers: The paramilitary force claims 'absolute powers' under the Anti-Terrorist Act (ATA) to arrest 'any person', including a public servant, who is suspected of involvement in terrorism-related offences. However,
corruption finds a dozen alibis for its evil deeds...
the putative 'absolute powers' are subject to due process of the law under Article 10-A of the Constitution. Moreover, citizens' life, liberty and dignity, protected under Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution, cannot be abridged on mere 'suspicion'.

Further, the Rangers' quest as an anti-terrorism agency to go against those who are prima facie involved in terrorism-related 'corrupt practices' may lead to double jeopardy for a detainee as seen in the ongoing case of Dr Asim Hussain. He was grilled first by the Rangers under the ATA and now NAB authorities are investigating corruption charges against him. Double jeopardy is prohibited under Article 13 of the Constitution.

8 ‘IS militants’ arrested from Daska
LAHORE: Police have arrested eight suspected members of the Islamic State group for planning to establish a terrorist network and carry out attacks, officials said Tuesday.

The eight suspects were arrested after anti-terror police raided their hideout in Daska, provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said. “They were trying to establish their group network and had plans to carry out attacks,” he said.

“All of them are young and in their 20?s. Police also seized Daesh literature and CDs,” he added. “They were taking instruction via the Internet from a person named Abu Muawiyah”. Daesh is an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State (IS) group, which controls wide swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria. Police commandos from the counter-terrorism department (CTD) raided the hideout and made the arrests on Monday, according to the official. A senior CTD official confirmed the arrests and said that some of the suspected militants were former members of Jamaatud Dawa (JuD).

The arrests came as a Taliban suicide bomber on a motorcycle killed 26 people after crashing into the main gate of a government office in Mardan. The blast in Mardan demonstrated the Taliban’s continued ability to stage deadly attacks, despite a major military offensive against its headquarters that analysts say has reduced its capacity. The government has officially denied that IS is operating in Pakistan, which has been wracked by al Qaeda and Taliban-linked violence for more than a decade. But authorities have expressed fears that IS could find recruits among Pakistan’s myriad of extremist militant groups.

The Grand Turk
Turkey funds Sunni militia in Iraq, lawmaker says
[RUDAW.NET] Iraq's Sunni militia group known as Hashd-al-Watani has been receiving monthly wages directly from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
after Baghdad froze payments to the group in August, according to an Iraqi member of parliament.

Shakhawan Abdullah, head of Iraqi parliamentary defense and security committee told Rudaw that Ankara makes monthly payments of 600,000 Iraqi dinars (about $500) to more than 6,000 fighters of the Sunni group in addition to providing them with combat training and armament.

Hashd-al-Watani, which is seen as a counterbalance to the more powerful Iran-backed Shiite militia group known as Hashd-al-Shaabi, was initially established to recruit Sunni fighters willing to take part in a possible assault on the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) in its djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
stronghold.

The Sunni group was until recently funded by the Iraqi government, trying to avert sectarian tensions in a region of mostly underprivileged Sunni populations who have often had hostile attitudes towards government policies in the past.

The government has regularly sent monthly salaries to state employees in Mosul despite the ISIS control, fearing more people would turn to ISIS if Baghdad withheld their wages.

The government, however, removed Mosul's exiled governor Atheel Nujaifi, a Sunni, accusing him of mismanaging the Sunni militia and turning it into his own army.

In early December Ankara sent between 150 and 300 soldiers and 20 tanks to the Bashiqa region of Nineveh province to train the Sunni fighters.

The commander of the Hashd-al-Watani at Bashiqa camp, told Rudaw his troops were now directly funded by Turkey.

General Muhammad Yahya said the number of Turkish military trainers had gone up since they first arrived in late July this year.

"Some five months ago 10 Turkish military trainers arrived at the Bashiqa camp to coach our troops," he said. "But since the start of this month they increased the number to 110 trainers and also deployed an additional troop to protect them,"

Turkish Defense Minister Ismat Yilmaz said last week their forces were there to "train and reorganize defensive military units" in the area.

General Yahya maintained that nearly 10,000 soldiers and coppers have been trained and prepared to recapture the city of Mosul from the ISIS.

Science & Technology
Firefox is failing
Live by the sword, die by the sword. I stopped using Firefox when this insanity raised its ugly head. Then to Chromium, then to Chrome. Much happier, now.
THE OPEN WEB is in constant peril. Almost a generation ago, everyone worried Microsoft, which had the dominant web browser of the time, could dictate the content people saw and the tools developers use. Its dominance faded, but the rise of mobile prompted new concerns about the role Apple and Google play as gatekeepers to the web. And Facebook’s control over what people see and share online continues growing.

Since its founding in 2003, the Mozilla Foundation has served as a check on the power of tech giants like those. It’s among the few organizations in Silicon Valley that isn’t out to make anyone rich. Although its for-profit subsidiary, the Mozilla Corp., has raked in hundreds of millions of dollars through its partnership with Google, that money finances the development of the Firefox web browser and other open source projects. Unlike other tech companies, Mozilla needn’t collect massive amounts of personal data to mine for marketing gold.

Given the intrusive nature of government surveillance, Mozilla—with its dedication to privacy and independence from corporate and government interests—should be more vital than ever. But in the age of social media and mobile devices, it has struggled to maintain relevance and failed to transition to a world where the desktop browser is fading in importance. Mozilla hasn’t even dented the mobile market with mobile versions of its browser or its Firefox OS smartphone operating system. And the organization has done little to counteract Facebook’s expanding influence. What’s more, its foothold on the desktop continues to slip as Google Chrome grows in popularity.

Its prospects for the future are fuzzy at a time when the web needs an open alternative more than ever.

One person shows up to O'Malley event in Iowa, remains uncommitted
[POLITICO] Amid a vicious winter storm on Monday that forced some presidential campaigns to cancel their scheduled stops in Iowa, only Martin O'Malley
...former Democratic governor of Maryland and aspiring presidential candidate, known locally as The One-Man Economic Wrecking Crew. O'Malley was elected to his second term driven by union support and near-Stalinesque vote margins in Baltimore city (82%) and Prince George's County (88%). And one man at his last event, the only person to show up, in fact, "was glad to see me," the former Maryland governor said. But he still would not commit to caucus for O'Malley.

"The very last event of the night, we actually had a whopping total of one person show up, but by God, he was glad to see me. So we spent the time with him," the Democratic presidential candidate told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Tuesday, speaking from Des Moines.

A tweet shared by an ABC News news hound showed a bearded man, identified only as Kenneth, sitting at a table with O'Malley, who told MSNBC that he was "working on him," but also said people in Iowa "want to see the whole campaign play out" before deciding on a candidate.

Suicide Bomber Kills At Least 26, Wounds 45 In Pakistan
[HUFFINGTONPOST] A jacket wallah went kaboom! outside a government office in a northwestern Pak city on Tuesday, killing at least 26 people and wounding 45 in an attack claimed by a breakaway Taliban group.

The bombing took place in the city of Mardan, outside the regional office of the National Database and Registration Authority, or NADRA, which issues identity cards, according to senior police officer Saeed Khan Wazir.

Wazir told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that some of the maimed were at death's door at a hospital in the nearby city of Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
.

"A gunman opened fire and killed a guard upon being asked to stop for checking. Then he went kaboom! his suicide jacket," he said. Wazir said if the attacker had managed to enter the government office, he might have killed many more people.

Mohammad Qasim told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named from his hospital bed that he went to the office to receive his national identity card, which is issued at age 18.

"I was in a very happy mood today. I told my family and friends that I would receive my national identity card, but I didn't know that I would become the target of a bombing," said Qasim, who had bandages on both legs.

Shortly after the attack, a front man for the holy warrior Jamaat-ul-Ahrar group grabbed credit for the bombing, calling it a "noble act to punish NADRA because it extends support to security forces." The front man, Ahsanullah Ahsan, spoke to the AP by phone from some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location.

Jamaat-ul-Ahrar split from the Pak Taliban two years ago.

Iraq
Sunni tribal fighters deployed in reconquered Ramadi areas
[AlAhram] Hundreds of fighters from local Sunni tribes were deployed Tuesday in some areas of the Iraqi city of Ramadi, newly reconquered from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group, security officials said.

"Five hundred members of the tribes from the Hashed arrived in northern Ramadi to participate in operations there and hold the liberated areas," said Major General Ismail Mahalawi, who heads Anbar operations command.

The Hashed al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilisation) is an umbrella group of mostly Tehran-backed Shiite militias that have played a key role in retaking land from IS.

However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
Sunni fighters from Anbar tribes opposed to the jihadists also officially belong to the group, which is nominally under Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi's command.

"Five units of tribal forces arrived today and hold the areas of Jaraishi, Zawiyah and Albu Faraj north of Ramadi," said their leader, Tareq Yusef al-Asal.

They had been trained on Habbaniyah base and armed by the defence ministry, he added.

The premier visited the Anbar capital Tuesday, a day after the elite counter-terrorism service raised the Iraqi flag above the city's large government complex.

The provincial headquarters had been the epicentre of the fighting since Iraqi forces punched through IS defences a week ago to cap a months-long operation to retake Ramadi.

Abadi congratulated the security forces, who were still sweeping streets and buildings for roadside kabooms, booby traps and holed up jihadists.

The most powerful groups in the Hashed al-Shaabi played only a peripheral role in the Ramadi battle, as Abadi and the US-led coalition wanted federal forces to regain confidence by spearheading the operation.

Iraq's Abadi plants flag in Ramadi to mark ISIS defeat
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi planted the national flag in Ramadi on Tuesday after the army retook the city centre from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) a day earlier, a victory that could help vindicate his strategy for rebuilding the military after stunning defeats.

If the Anbar lovely provincial capital can be fully secured and re-populated, it would be the first major success for the U.S.-trained force that fled 18 months ago as jihadist ISIS bandidos bully boyz surged through northern and western Iraq.

Security forces must still remove explosives planted in streets and buildings and clear out fighters in some densely built-up areas, and much of the infrastructure needs to be rebuilt.

Three mortar rounds landed about 500 meters (0.3 miles) from Abadi's location during his visit, three security sources said. The prime minister was not in danger but was forced to leave the area, they said.

Abadi had arrived in Ramadi by helicopter. He moved through the city with the Anbar governor and top security officials in a convoy of Humvees, crossing a floating bridge used by the armed forces last week to retake the city centre.

He met soldiers at the main government complex captured by counter-terrorism forces on Monday and planted the tri-colour flag outside the building.

He had announced the visit to Ramadi himself on Twitter and declared Thursday a national holiday in celebration.

Iran denies shipping uranium to Russia
[RUDAW.NET] Iran's foreign ministry denied on Tuesday that his country shipped any enriched uranium to Russia as part of Iran's nuclear deal with the Western powers.

Russian officials reported Monday the procedure of transferring Iran's uranium to Russia was complete.

But Iran's Foreign Ministry front man, Hosein Jaber Ansari denied the Russian reports, saying that his country has only completed the process of withdrawing yellow-cake from Iran to Russia.

There have been multiple contradictory reports in Iranian and Russian media regarding the uranium withdrawal which is the first step in implementing Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

According to Taas news agency Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has said that there are plans to complete the withdrawal of enriched uranium from Iran by the end of the year.

US Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
welcomed the news of the uranium shipments and hailed it as "a significant step" by Iran towards meeting its commitments.

Iran signed a deal with the P5+1 powers in Vienna last July to cease its uranium enrichment and in return have economic and trade sanctions lifted by the UN and state signatories of the agreement.

ATCs to hear honour killing cases: BHC chief justice
QUETTA: The rights of women would be protected and all cases involving honour killing would be heard in future by the anti-terrorism courts (ATCs), Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) Justice Mohammad Noor Meskanzai said on Tuesday.

He was speaking at a ceremony held in Sibi to mark opening of the ATC Complex and judges’ residences there.

“It is the responsibility of the judiciary to ensure implementation of the Constitution and rule of the law. The cases against the accused involved in honour killings will be heard in Anti-Terrorism Courts,” he said, adding that the judiciary would monitor and ensure protection of women’s rights.

He instructed the officials concerned to construct waiting rooms for women in all courts across the province.

Chief Justice Meskanzai said that in Pakistan, women had been deprived of the rights that had been granted to them by Islam.

“It is a very bad trend that the society has been making compromises on the issue of women murdered in the name of honour,” he said. “First the women are killed in the name of honour and later the killers are freed through bargaining.”

He said the judiciary would not allow such injustices in future. “The judiciary will do justice and the offenders will be brought to book,” he said.

The murder of an innocent woman was a shameful and cowardly act, he said. All such cases in future would be heard by the ATCs in order to ensure punishment of those responsible.

The BHC chief justice said the lawyers gave voice to the sentiments of the people and played a vital role in the provision of justice.

He expressed the hope that the judicial complex would be constructed on time.

The ceremony was also attended by Justice Muhammad Hashim Kakar, District and Sessions Judge Rashid Mehmood, senior judges and officials of the district administration.

According to the governor of Achin District the bombardment took place in Shadal Bazar area late Monday.

Haji Ghalib Mujahid immediately did not have information about casualties of the air strike.

Meanwhile, a statement released by the Ministry of Defense this morning states that Afghan Air Force has bombed a Daesh hideout in Sulaimankhil area of Chaparhar District in past 24 hours.

According to the statement, 38 militants were killed in the airstrikes and the hideout belonging to Habibzai and Mullah Naeem destroyed.

The 38 insurgents killed include two who were trying to escape the bombardment through a motorcycle.

Emirati Charged for Plot on Abu Dhabi F1 Circuit
[AnNahar] The husband of an Emirati woman executed for murdering an American teacher has been charged with joining the Islamic State

group and plotting attacks on Abu Dhabi's Formula 1 circuit, local media reported Tuesday.

The man was charged by the UAE's Federal Supreme Court on Monday with seven terror-related offenses, including planning to bomb the Yas Marina circuit and a U.S. military base, The National newspaper said.

The suspect was married to Alaa Bader al-Hashemi, who was executed in July after being convicted of the jihadist-inspired murder of U.S. school teacher Ibolya Ryan, 47, in a toilet of an Abu Dhabi shopping mall in December last year.

Dubbed the "Reem Island Ghost" after the location of the mall, Hashemi was also convicted of placing a handmade pipe bomb outside an Egyptian-American doctor's home in Abu Dhabi.

The Gulf News quoted a prosecutor as saying that the man attempted to join IS in Iraq but had instead "opted to work in the UAE to support the terrorist organization".

He was also accused of planning an attack on an Ikea store in Abu Dhabi and preparing to assassinate an unspecified Emirati leader, according to The National.

It said the suspect denied all charges and alleged he had been held in solitary confinement for six months after being incarcerated

in November 2014.

The UAE is part of the U.S.-led coalition that has been carrying out air strikes against IS in Syria since September last year and has upped security measures since the wave of Arab Spring protests that swept the region in 2011.

Authorities have enacted tougher anti-terror legislation, including harsher jail terms and even introducing the death penalty for crimes linked to religious hatred and "takfiri

bully boys, with one of them found guilty of transferring some $600 to an ISIS bank account.

Yelena Arshakhanova and Saida Khalikova, medical students in the southern Russian city of Astrakhan, were respectively sentenced to five years, three months and five years, six months behind bars, court spokeswoman Irina Zhirnova told AFP on Tuesday.

"They were accused of transferring funds to terrorists," Zhirnova said, adding that the court had reached its verdict on Monday.

The women allegedly sold household items and homemade soap to raise funds that they would then transfer to the accounts of ISIS fighters.

Both women pleaded guilty, Zhirnova said.

Khalikova -- who had been held awaiting trial from December 2014 -- is accused of transferring 43,000 rubles ($594, 544 euros) to an ISIS-linked bank account, according to the opposition Open Russia group.

But the 24-year-old's lawyer, Sabir Agayev, said his client had transferred the funds for a friend without being aware of their final destination, Open Russia reported.

Khalikova's mother, Raziyat Isabekova, wrote in a letter to President Vladimir Putin

that her daughter had confessed under duress.

"They forced her to sign a confession for something she did not do," she wrote in the letter, published by the Open Russia.

According to FSB figures released earlier this month, nearly 2,900 Russians are fighting or have fought with ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Russia's stricken currency drops to 2015 low amid oil price slump
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Russia's battered ruble on Tuesday continued its slide on the back of low oil prices, reaching a new 2015 low against the dollar and dropping to below 80 against the euro.

The Russian currency stood on Tuesday at 72.85 against the dollar, down from 72.46 on Monday.

The ruble meanwhile stood at 80.02 against the euro, dropping below 80 for the first time since late August.

The slide in oil prices and Western sanctions over Moscow's role in the Ukraine crisis have pummeled the oil-dependent Russian economy in recent months.

At his annual presser earlier this month President Vladimir Putin

assured the country could weather the headwinds, despite volatility in oil prices.

The ruble lost around half of its value in 2014 but recovered slightly as energy prices stabilized this year, allowing officials to claim the worst of the crisis had passed.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Rouhani's call
[DAWN] THEY are strong words and all the stronger for the fact that they ring true. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has spoken with great conviction and frankness in acknowledging a deep malaise within the Muslim world. Be it online or in the real world, the narrative of Islam that is seemingly ascendant in the world is one propagated by bigoted and holy warrior elements in the Muslim world. Most "violence, terror and massacres, unfortunately, take place in the Islamic world", President Rouhani has been quoted as saying. There is a need to remove "Islam's negative image" in the world, the Iranian leader added. Unquestionably, Mr Rouhani has given voice to a feeling that is widespread among right-thinking and sensible individuals across the Muslim world. It is not enough to say that Islam is a religion of peace; societies that represent Islam have to search within and fight the hate and violence that appears to have washed over so much of the Muslim world.

Courageous as President Rouhani has been in acknowledging that a great deal of the responsibility for fixing Muslim societies afflicted by war, violence and militancy lies with the Muslim world itself, he fell short of stating the full truth. Are Muslim-majority states, particularly the ones that are explicitly Islamic, truly ready to stand up for a broad, inclusive, tolerant vision of Islam? Consider Iran itself. From its support for Hezbollah to its early attempts to prop up Bashir al-Assad when the Syrian people rose up against his dictatorial rule to possibly stoking sectarian tensions in Bahrain and Yemen, has Iran really played a positive role in the region? To many outsiders, it still appears that it is an article of faith of the Iranian leadership, especially its clergy, that the Iranian revolution must be exported. But Iran is surely not the only, or even worst, offender. The extraordinary brashness of the new Saudi leadership, almost certainly fuelled by the fear that the people-power phase of the Arab Spring could penetrate Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, has led to extraordinary violence in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and Bahrain. In addition, Saudi leaders are encouraging pro-Saudi Sunni militias to counter groups like the holy warrior Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, a move that can only backfire and prove disastrous for the region. Mr Rouhani is on firmer ground when he advocates social development and education as a long-term response to the poison that has seeped into Muslim societies. Surely, without a change in state policies, the violence on the ground will not go away. But just as surely, Muslim societies will not be able to get rid of the hate within until the people themselves have better prospects: better education, better jobs, better amenities and more representative governments. For now though more Muslim leaders need to follow Mr Rouhani's example and speak frankly about the problems within their societies. For the truth to prevail, the hate must be challenged.

Gunmen shut Yemen university's faculties for gender mixing
[DAWN] Militants shut down three faculties at Yemen's University of Aden on Tuesday in an attempt to force students to observe gender segregation on campus, witnesses said.

The incident was the second of its kind in recent weeks in Aden, Yemen's second city, where the presence of bully boy groups is growing as the embattled government struggles to spread control.

The gunnies, some of whom were masked, forced the students out of the faculties of administrative sciences, law, and engineering, before locking down the gates, students said.

"They dragged us out of the exam halls," said one of the students. "They detained two students who were filming the incident."

Students said the gunnies shouted: "No mixing. We have warned you before," and added that the authorities did not intervene to stop the murderous Moslems.

It was not immediately clear what group the gunnies belonged to but witnesses and local residents said they were loyalists of Ayman Askar, a local militia leader known for his links to both Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State

Askar's militia is influential in Aden's district of Madinat Asha'ab where the faculties are located, according to residents.

Last month, gunnies also entered the faculty of administrative sciences in Aden and closed it down after threatening to use force against students if they did not observe segregation of the genders.

Iran test fires rockets near US warship, sparking concern
[IsraelTimes] Military official says close call 'highly provocative' as missile shot from within 1,500 yards of carrier in Strait of Hormuz

The Iranian navy test fired several rockets near three Western warships including the USS Harry S Truman aircraft carrier last week, a US military official said Tuesday. Though the rockets were not fired toward any ship, their proximity to the warships -- and several commercial vessels -- sparked concern.

"We look at this firing so close to the ships as highly provocative," said the military official, who was not immediately authorized to be named.

The official confirmed details of an NBC News report that said one rocket was fired from within about 1,500 yards of the USS Truman as it transited the Strait of Hormuz. A French frigate and the USS Bulkeley destroyer were also in the area.

The area is considered one of the world's most important shipping lanes, and has been the source of tensions between Western powers and Iran in the past over threats from Tehran to close the strait.

The incident took place on December 26, shortly after the Iranian navy had announced via radio it was about to conduct a live-fire exercise and warned ships to steer clear. The official said the unguided rockets were fired from an Iranian navy "fast inshore attack craft" that was in Omani waters.

The Western vessels did not need to take evasive action, the official said.

A war over who deserves to be called a 'martyr'
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Media outlets affiliated with the "Axis of Resistance" have described Lebanese bully boy Samir Qantar as a "martyr" after he was killed in Syria in a suspected Israeli attack earlier this month. Many in the Arab world are quick to label those killed by Israel as a "martyr." But this description angered opponents of the Assad regime; how can someone who professed support to Assad's criminal regime and fought alongside it be called a martyr, even if "the enemy" Israel killed him?

Many took to social media to voice their anger about this, pointing to Qantar's "involvement in the killing of the Syrian people."

It seems we've begun to grant titles of "martyrdom" while overlooking the biographies of these “martyrs”
But again, it was only few days later that media outlets who oppose the Assad regime described leader of the Jaish al-Islam

Iraq
We can't retake Mosul without Kurds, says Iraqi official
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Iraqi army will need Kurdish fighters' help to retake djinn-infested Mosul

...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Iraqi Finance Minister Hoshiyar Zebari said, with the planned offensive expected to be very challenging.

Mosul, 400 km north of Baghdad, has been designated by the government as the next target for Iraq's armed forces after they retook the western city of Ramadi.

"Mosul needs good planning, preparations, commitment from all the key players," Zebari, a Kurd, said in an interview on Monday in Baghdad.

"Peshmerga is a major force; you cannot do Mosul without Peshmerga," he told Rooters, referring to the armed forces of Iraqi Kurdistan, an autonomous northern region close to Mosul.

The mostly Sunni city had a population of two million before it fell to the murderous Moslems in June 2014 in the first stage of their sweeping advance through northern and western Iraq.

The battle of Mosul would be "very, very challenging", Zebari said. "It will not be an easy operation, for some time they have been strengthening themselves, but it's doable."

Given the extent of the area that needs to be secured around Mosul during the attack, the army may also need to draw, in support roles, on local Sunni forces and possibly the Shiite Popular Mobilisation, he said.

The Mobilisation, known in Arabic as Hashid Shaabi, is a loosely knit coalition of Iran-backed Shi'ite militias set up to fight Islamic State. It was barred from the week-long battle to retake Ramadi to avoid tension with the Sunni population.

The retaking of Ramadi by Iraq's army marked the first major success of the U.S.-trained force that initially fled in the face of Islamic State's advance 18 months ago.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Monday that ISIS would be defeated in 2016 with the army planning to move on Mosul. "We are coming to liberate Mosul and it will be the fatal and final blow to Daesh [Islamic State]," he said in speech praising the army's "victory" in Ramadi.

Retaking Mosul would effectively mark the end of the caliphate proclaimed by Islamic State in adjacent Sunni areas of Iraq and Syria, according to Zebari.

"It's there where His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
declared his caliphate," he said, referring to the group's leader. "It is literally their capital."

The Iraqi Kurdish president, Massoud Barzani
... hereditary head of the Kurdish Democratic Party, maybe a little too close to the Medes and the Persians for most people's tastes...
, discussed plans for the liberation of Mosul with Lieutenant General Tom Beckett, Britannia's senior defense adviser, in September, according to Kurdish TV Rudaw.

I want to think freely, and write freely
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] In the Arab world, everyone thinks journalists cannot be independent, but I represent myself, which is the right thing to do. What would I be worth if I succumbed to pressure to change my opinions? The atmosphere of freedom must be preserved, and I am happy that my government is doing so. A public meeting I had with a group of youths in Riyadh to discuss the volatile regional environment was recorded and broadcast online without any curtailment.

That was the best cure for the articles that were attacking me and the friends who were abandoning me. I talked to the youths for more than two hours, and answered their questions freely. I felt then that the world cannot bring down someone who is free on the inside. I want to be free, to think freely and write freely. I am free to do so.

Son of 'Tottenham Ayatollah' killed in Iraq: Sources
[AlAhram] A son of the Syrian-born radical holy man Omar Bakri has been killed in Iraq fighting alongside ISIS group, security sources said Tuesday.

The Popular Mobilisation, a paramilitary group, said that it and the security forces had killed Bilal Omar Bakri.

He was "leading a group that tried to attack one of our units," in Salaheddin north of Baghdad, according to a statement from the group, dominated by Tehran-backed Shiite militias.

A Lebanese security source confirmed that Bilal Omar Bakri, who was in his late 20s, had been killed "fighting in the ranks of ISIS" in Salaheddin province.

Another of the preacher's sons, Mohammad Omar, who was in his late 30s, died fighting for ISIS in Aleppo in Syria several months earlier, the source told AFP on condition of anonymity.

The brothers had travelled together from Britannia to Iraq, the source added.

Omar Bakri, who holds Lebanese citizenship, became known in Britannia for supporting Al-Qaeda.

A security source said that he was sentenced in October to six years of hard labour for establishing an organization affiliated with the jihadist Al-Nusra Front in Syria and establishing training camps for it in Leb.

When he was based in London, the Sunni firebrand
...firebrands are noted more for audio volume and the quantity of spittle generated than for any actual logic in their arguments...
was known in the media as the "Tottenham Ayatollah" despite the term applying to a high rank in the Shiite clergy.

Omar Bakri fled Britannia, where he lived for two decades, to Leb after praising the perpetrators of the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States and the July 7, 2005 bombings in London.

He was tossed in the calaboose
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
and sentenced to life in prison in Leb on a number of charges but was freed on bail in 2010 pending a retrial, judicial sources said at the time.

He had most recently been arrested in May 2014 for his involvement in unrest in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
He has denied any links to Al-Qaeda although he said he believed "in the same ideology".

Please don't kill me!
two people suspected of planning attacks in Brussels during the festive season.

Raids took place on Sunday and Monday in Brussels and the provinces of Phlegmish Brabant and Liege.

Police seized military clothing and computer equipment in the raids, but no weapons or explosives.

Belgium has been on high alert since the attacks of 13 November in Gay Paree. Several of the perpetrators are thought to have been based in Belgium.

However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
the latest arrests are not linked to the Gay Paree attacks, prosecutors say.

One of those arrested is suspected of leading and recruiting for a terrorist cell.

The suspects are accused of planning attacks against several "symbolic targets" in Brussels, as well as on the police, according to the Belgian broadcaster RTBF.
The Times of Israel adds:
The two suspects, who the source said were male, were nabbed
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
following searches Sunday and Monday in the Brussels area, the Liege region and Phlegmish Brabant, the prosecutor's office said. It did not disclose their names or further information about them.

During the searches, military-type training uniforms, propaganda materials from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group and computer material were seized and are being examined.

Six people were taken in for questioning, but four were released, the office said.
Interesting update from An Nahar at 7:30 a.m. ET:
Belgium Probes Salafist Motorcycle Gang in Alleged Islamist New Year Plot

Belgium is probing whether a cycle of violence gang was involved in an alleged plot to launch attacks in Brussels during New Year's festivities, a source close to the probe told AFP Wednesday.

Federal prosecutors announced Tuesday that the authorities had locked away
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
two people suspected of plotting to attack "emblematic sites" in the Belgian capital following raids in the areas of Brussels and Liege.

A source close to the investigation said a counter-terrorism judge was probing links between the "Kamikaze Riders" gang and the alleged plotters.

"The investigation is looking at this group of motorcyclists," the source told AFP on condition of anonymity without saying whether those tossed in the slammer
Please don't kill me!
were gang member.

Belgian newspaper La Derniere Heure said that one of those arrested is a Salafist who founded the gang and that several of its members are supporters of the jihadist cause.

The two suspects are due to appear in court on Thursday when a judge will determine whether to keep them in jug.

The source close to the investigation said prosecutors were trying to determine whether the alleged plotters had direct links to the Islamic State group.

Prosecutors said the police raids on Sunday and Monday was not linked to the deadly attacks in Gay Paree in November which were claimed by the Islamic State group and which La Belle France says were prepared in Belgium.

The Belga news agency, citing an internal police memo, said there "exists a possible and credible threat of Gay Paree-style attacks" against the high-profile Grand Place, the neighboring central cop shoppe as well as soldiers and police in uniform. Tourists and others flock to the Grand Place, the opulent central square of Brussels.

Belgian media reported that the city authorities will decide Wednesday whether to go ahead with a New Year's Eve fireworks display at Place de Brouckere, another central square.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Three Indicted with Spying for Israel, Including Lebanese UNIFIL Employee
Think of them with gratitude.
[AnNahar] Hani Matar, a Lebanese employee of the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
Interim Force in Leb (UNIFIL), was indicted on Tuesday on charges of collaborating with Israel, reported al-Jadeed television, citing Military Court documents.

It said that Military Examining Magistrate Judge Riyad Abou Ghida indicted him and two other people with working with Israel.

The indictment identifies the two others as Syrian national Ramez al-Sayyed and his Lebanese wife Salam Ibrahim Shukur.

The three indictees were tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
by the General Security in November.

The indictment describes al-Sayyed as an opponent of Damascus who "extremely hates the Syrian regime, Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
and their allies."

"Aided by his wife Salam Shukur, they commnuicated via Facebook with Israeli spy Tannous al-Jallad, who lives in occupied Paleostine and recruits agents for the Israeli army," the indictment adds.

"Through this communication, Ramez al-Sayyed volunteered to work for Israel, telling Tannous al-Jallad that he was willing to carry out any mission requested by the Mossad in the Sidon region since he has a cafe there frequented by a large number of civilians and soldiers," it says.

The General Security said at the time that the detainees had confessed to gathering information on various security and military figures for the purpose of liquidations.

They photographed roads and other "sensitive" areas in the South, said the General Security in a statement.

UNIFIL had said in November that it "will continue to provide the assistance required to facilitate the Government's investigations into the allegations."

"UNIFIL considers it of the utmost importance that the investigative and judicial process is conducted in accordance with the international standards of justice, fairness and due process of law and fully supports the Lebanese authorities in the effort," it added.

Leb and Israel remain technically in a state of war, with occasional skirmishes on the ceasefire line.

UNIFIL monitors the line and has a force of some 10,000 international peacekeepers.

It also employs numerous local staff members serving in non-peacekeeping roles.

Between April 2009 and 2014, Lebanese authorities detained more than 100 people accused of spying for Israel, most of them army members or telecommunications employees.

But such arrests have since been rare.

India-Pakistan
'Raped' polio worker claims police trying to cover up the crime
[DAWN] A lady polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
worker, who claimed that she was raped by four men allegedly for administering anti-polio drops to the children in the area, appeared in DawnNews' programme 'Exposed' and complained about police's alleged cover up of the crime.

In the DawnNews show, the victim repeated her claim that she was threatened by a suspected bad boy Ajab Khan, who was living as a tenant in the victim's house for six months.

The victim said that Khan warned her to give up her job as "it was haram and part of American conspiracy against Muslims". He threatened the victim of dire consequences.

The lady said that few days after this incident, five men barged into her house at midnight and two of them -- in police uniforms - allegedly raped her, while the other three tortured her family.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the FIR says the men took away Rs40,000 from the victim's place and has no mention of rape charges, DawnNews reported.

Four terrorists tried by military courts hanged
PESHAWAR: Four terrorists sentenced by military courts were executed at the Kohat Central Jail Tuesday morning.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif had signed the black warrants of the four men, namely Noor Saeed alias Hafiz Sahib, Murad Khan, Inayatullah and Israruddin alias Abu Lais, earlier this month. An ISPR statement issued at the time said the men were convicted for slaughtering, suicide bombing, abduction for ransom and funding terrorist organisations.

Earlier this month, four terrorists involved in the Army Public School attack were hanged at a civil jail here. In the wake of the APS carnage, military courts were set up for trying terrorists under amendments made to the constitution and the Army Act.

Bangladesh
CU expels 3 students for alleged militant link
[Dhaka Tribune] The Chittagong University authorities yesterday suspended three students, who were jugged
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
on Sunday, for their alleged involvement with banned holy warrior outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh
The JMB is said to be the youth front of Al Mujahideen, the parent organization that began working toward establishing Bangladesh as an Islamic state in the mid 1990s which remains obscure even today. Other organizations, such as Jama'atul Jihad, JMB, Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB), Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HUJI), Hizbut Tawhid, Tawhidi Janata, Islami Jubo Shangha, Islami Shangha, Al Falah A'am Unnayan Shanstha and Shahadat-e al Hiqma are believed to be part of the Al Mujahideen network. The JMB at its peak was reported to contain at least 100,000 members, and an alleged 2,000-man suicide brigade, few of whom actually exploded. JMB allegedly received financial assistance from individual donors in Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Libya. Reports have claimed that funding of JMB by international NGOs like Kuwait based Society of the Revival of Islamic Heritage (RIHS) and Doulatul Kuwait, Saudi Arabia based Al Haramaine Islamic Institute and Rabita Al Alam Al Islami, Qatar Charitable Society and UAE-based Al Fuzaira and Khairul Ansar Al Khairia. The top leadership of JMB was captured in 2005 and hung in 2007, which pretty much shot their bolt.
(JMB).

The trio, all students of physics department, are Naimur Rahman alias Noyon of final year, and Md Shawkat Rasel and Faisal Mahmud of Masters, said Registrar Prof Dr Kamrul Huda.

"They will get back their studentship if they can prove their innocence," he added.

CU sources said Naimur's final exam started on Sunday while Faisal was likely to peruse his thesis on Quantum Field Theory.

Earlier, members of the Detective Branch of police arrested the trio from the different parts of the port city. Based on the information they gave, the detectives later recovered a sophisticated sniper rifle, ammunition, Bangladesh Army's uniforms and huge amount of bomb-making materials from a flat in Amanbazar area.

The trio confessed that they had been active associates of JMB chief in Chittagong Fardin alias Noman, police said after initial interrogation.

DB's Deputy Commissioner (port-west) Md Moktar Hossen told the Dhaka Tribune that the accused had been interrogated by a 10-member team formed by the Chittagong Metropolitan Police on Sunday.

They were placed on a five-day remand in a case that filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with the recovery of firearms and bombs from the city's Khawajnagar area under Karnaphuli cop shoppe on October 6.

Two cases were also filed with Hathazari police following the recovery while police have sought 20-day remand in the cases.

JMB man rumoured to be dead held by RAB
[Dhaka Tribune] A JMB man who was initially reported to have been killed in a RAB shootout but was later found to be alive, has now been tossed in the calaboose
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
again allegedly by the elite force.
Wonder who the actual dead guy was?
Minhazul Islam Sanwar, 23, returned to his home in Bogra's Khamarkandi village Monday evening, only to be detained hours later by RAB.

On Sunday, Minhaz was released from Kashimpur Jail after serving over 10 years in a militancy case. He was then immediately picked up by law enforcers and taken to the RAB Headquarters along with another released JMB man named Mahbub. Both of them were released later in the evening.

But early hours on Monday, different media houses reported that Minhaz was one of the two suspected bully boyz who were killed in an alleged shootout with the RAB in Gazipur.

Kulsum Begum, sister of Minhaz, said Minhaz returned home around 5:30pm on Monday.

But around 3:30am yesterday, some RAB men picked Minhaz up from his village home, said the JMB man's father Abdul Kuddus.

Quoting Minhaz's family members, local UP member Tabibar Rahman said RAB forces had taken Minhaz to their Sirajganj camp along with a few elders.

However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
sources at the Sirajganj camp dismissed such a claim.

Sub-Inspector Shahin, the on-duty officer at the RAB's Bogra camp, also told the Dhaka Tribune that no one named Minhaz was being detained at the Bogra camp.

Meanwhile,
...back at the secret hideout, Scarface Al sneeringly put his proposition to little Nell...
two cases have been filed under the arms and explosives acts with Gazipur's Joydebpur cop shoppe in connection with Monday's shootout and arms haul.

Around 2kg of explosives materials, 29 detonators and a gun was found beside the bodies of the suspected bully boys, according to the case documents.

Joydebpur OC Khandaker Rezaul Hasan Reza told our Gazipur correspondent that the bodies of the suspected bully boyz were still unidentified at the morgue. They would be buried on Wednesday if no one identified them by then, he added.
