-Short Attention Span Theater-
More on the 'accidental death of' UN official John Ashe
[Gateway Pundit] Coincidence? UN Official "Accidentally" Crushes Throat and Dies Before Testifying Against Hillary Clinton

What a strange coincidence? Former UN official John Ashe "accidentally" crushed his own throat and died a week before he was scheduled to testify against the Clintons and Democrat Party.

Zero Hedge reported:

Call it conspiracy theory, coincidence or just bad luck, but any time someone is in a position to bring down Hillary Clinton by testifying they wind up dead. In fact, there’s a long history of Clinton-related body counts, with scores of people dying under mysterious circumstances.

Perhaps the most notable is Vince Foster. Foster was a partner at Clinton’s law firm and knew the inner workings of the Clinton Machine. Police ruled that death a suicide, though it is often noted that Foster may have been suicided.

Now, another official has found himself on the wrong end of the Clintons. That John Ashe was a former President of the United Nations General Assembly highlights the fact that no one is safe once in their sights.

And as you might have guessed, there are major inconsistencies with Ashe’s death. It was not only conveniently timed because Ashe died just a few days before being set to testify against Clinton in a corruption case, but official reports indicated he died of a heart attack.

The problem, however, is that police on the scene reported Ashe died when his throat was crushed during a work-out accident.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
It's time for Uncle Sam to stop funding Palestinian terror
[NY Post] Just what will it take to cut off US funding for Palestinian terror?

That question has taken center stage amid the wave of murderous "lone wolf" attacks against Israeli civilians, egged on by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Thursday, a Palestinian killed a sleeping 13-year-old girl in the West Bank. The next day, another opened fire on a car, killing a dad and wounding his wife and two kids.

Since September, the terror spree has left 40 dead and 430 injured. And every one of the terrorists -- or their families -- gets a hefty reward from Abbas’ PA.

Meanwhile, hundreds of millions flow to the PA from the West, including America. Which means US tax dollars are, in effect, going to pay for terrorist acts. (And here you thought we were fighting terror.)

Congress may be finally moving to end the outrage. Both houses are considering legislation to cut US aid to the PA by the amount given to Palestinian terrorists and their families. The key will be to make the bill loophole-proof, as the PA has skirted earlier attempts to curb its terror subsidies.

To be sure, some warn against cutting aid to Abbas & Co. for any reason. They fear it could destabilize the closest thing to a moderate regime the Palestinians may ever have.

Israeli officials have made that point. But the latest attacks spurred Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government this week to roll back the amount of Palestinian tax revenue it hands the PA, by deducting what the PA pays to its killers.

"Payouts to terrorists and their relatives constitute an incentive to murder," a government statement said. No kidding.

Sending US tax dollars to the PA, only to see them go to reward terror, is a moral obscenity.

Congress should do all it can to curb the practice -- pronto.

General Atomics Develops Giant Capacitors to Power Electric Railguns
Very Cool!
A General Atomics division has successfully demonstrated giant storage capacitors that can power hundreds of shots by futuristic electromagnetic railguns.

The San Diego-based company said its new capacitors can store more than 415 kilojoules of energy, breaking a previous record by more than 20 percent.

Railguns use electromagnetism to accelerate projectiles without explosives. The Navy anticipates using railguns on its new Zumwalt class of stealth destroyers.

General Atomics said two of the new capacitors were used to successfully demonstrate 500 railgun shots in a repetitive-fire mode.

"Our ongoing research, development and maturing of high energy density capacitor technologies is enabling the creation of pulsed power systems powerful enough and compact enough to support the needs of our customers for both land and sea-based railgun applications," said Nick Bucci, vice president of missile defense and space systems at General Atomics' Electromagnetic Systems Group.

Bucci said the more powerful capacitors will enable General Atomics to design more compact railgun weapons.

The company has successfully fired projectiles from its Blitzer electromagnetic railgun at accelerations of over 30,000 times the force of gravity. This new capacitor will enable significantly higher muzzle energies.

Huge Majority Of Dems Want A Third Term From Obama
[Daily Caller] Seventy percent of Democrats want President Obama to run for a third term, a new poll published Thursday revealed.

Asked whether they would prefer a Hillary Clinton presidency or a third term for Obama, 70 percent of Democrats polled by the conservative firm Wilson Perkins and Allen said they would prefer a third term for Obama. Twenty-eight percent of Democrats said they are ready to move towards a Clinton presidency.

Even with 70 percent of Democrats desiring another Obama term, Clinton is still doing well in national polls. Clinton consistently sees 70 to 75 percent of Democratic voter support, a number much higher than Trump's average of 65 percent of Republican voter support.

#15  Oftentimes, when you think about it, there are good reasons for phobias. If you have a fear of heights it means you don't want to fall. If you have a fear of small, tight spaces it means you don't want to get stuck in there and suffocate. If you fear snakes it means you don't want to get bitten, etc. So xenophobia means you don't want your country to be overwhelmed with obnoxious, ungrateful, trouble making Third World types who will want you to pay for them to have free stuff.

#17  I am not a psychiatrist, but as I understand it, the official definition of a "phobia" is an IRrational fear of osmething. It is one thing to be afraid of falling; being afraid of being anywhere over three or four feet above ground is irrational. Also, the person who suffers from the phobia is aware that the fear is irrational, but can't help it.

African Cardinal Demands Apology for Abortion ‘Genocide' of Black Babies in U.S.
[Breitbart] The outspoken South African Cardinal Wilfrid Napier has called for an apology for the massive human deaths at the hands of the U.S. abortion industry, and in particular the disproportionate number of black babies that have been aborted, which he refers to as "genocide."

In a series of tweets Saturday, Cardinal Napier quoted figures from Planned Parenthood’s own Guttmacher Institute, estimating that since the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision more than 57 million babies have been legally aborted in the United States.

"Isn’t this something we should be apologizing for?" Napier asks rhetorically.

Economy
BREXIT and the Derivatives Time Bomb
h/t Gates of Vienna
Brexit could trigger a $500 trillion derivatives meltdown, by forcing the EU to allow insolvent member governments and banks to write down debt. Italy is in financial crisis and is already petitioning for that concession. How to avoid collapse of the massive derivatives house of cards? Alternatives are considered.

Sovereign debt -- the debt of national governments -- has ballooned from $80 trillion to $100 trillion just since 2008. Squeezed governments have been driven to radical austerity measures, privatizing public assets, slashing public services, and downsizing work forces in a futile attempt to balance national budgets. But the debt overhang just continues to grow.

...But Brexit changes everything, says Summers. Until now, the EU has been able to reject debt forgiveness as an alternative, using the threat of financial Armageddon if the debtor country left the EU. But Britain has left, and Armageddon hasn’t hit. Other Eurozone nations can now threaten to do the same if they don’t get debt forgiveness or a restructuring.

The First Domino -- Italy

That has evidently started happening, with Italy as the first challenger of EU rules. On June 27th, Ambrose Evans-Pritchard reported in the UK Telegraph that the first serious casualty of the Brexit contagion had struck. The Italian government is preparing a €40 billion rescue of its financial system, as Italian bank shares collapse. The government is now studying a direct state recapitalization of Italian banks, to be funded by a special bond issue. They also want a moratorium of the bail-in rules and bondholder write-downs, although those steps are prohibited under EU laws.

#2  The way to stimulate economies is to get money into the pockets of people who will spend it. Demand (money) stimulates supply (productivity

What's the incentive to work if the U.S. government is paying the 47%+ not to work? Multiply this by other countries. We have seen this kind of bubble before on a smaller scale. Subprime loans (bupkas) were bundled into derivatives (more bupkas) and sold as investments. When the defaults started occurring, people lost their shirts and even countries went under (e.g. Iceland). So now it is suddenly a good idea to bundle worthless government bonds and sell them as investments (sarc.) Brexit only highlights the problem. Damn those globalists and One World Government types.

PKK’s lucrative cannabis fields rooted out: Interior minister
It's not just the jihadis, at least according to the Turks.
[Hurriyet] "We are conducting a total fight against the PKK," Ala told parliament at a special session on the fight against terrorism in the aftermath of the deadly Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) attack at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport.

This "total fight" against the PKK includes cutting the group’s main source of financing, he added, stating that 8.8 tons of drugs have recently been captured and destroyed in operations carried out by security forces. Some 43.9 million cannabis roots with a market value of 2.7 billion liras have also been rooted out, he said, adding that "this shows how drug dealing and terrorism have become linked."

The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) had earlier announced that a field full of some 240,000 cannabis roots was destroyed in its operations in the Lice district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakir on June 22.

Ala also informed that some 18 tons of explosives have been found in similar operations in the region.

"They have tried to declare ‘cantons’ inside The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

after they did the same in Syria. They launched these efforts in 12 different provinces in Turkey. But they now realize that Turkey is not Syria and they have all been cleared from these provinces," he said.

Curfews continue to be implemented in parts of seven provinces amid ongoing operations, Ala also stated.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Rapper Kendrick Lamar aka Kendrick Lamar Duckworth to perform at WH on July 4th.
[Breitbart] Rapper Kendrick Lamar will perform at the White House on the Fourth of July while President Obama aka Barry Soetoro and First Lady Michelle Obama host military heroes and their families, the White House announced Friday.

"Staff and their families from throughout the administration will also attend this event for the fireworks viewing and performance by Janelle Monae and Kendrick Lamar," the press secretary's office said in a statement.

Lamar is one of President Obama's favorite rappers. The president previously named Lamar's song "How Much A Dollar Cost" his favorite song of 2015.
I knew you'd want the lyrics:
How much a dollar really cost?
The question is detrimental, paralyzin' my thoughts
Parasites in my stomach keep me with a gut feeling, y'all
Gotta see how I’m chillin' once I park this luxury car
Hopping out feeling big as Mutombo
"20 on pump 6" - dirty Marcellus called me Dumbo
20 years ago - can't forget
Now I can lend all my ear or two how to stack these residuals
Tenfold; the liberal concept of what men'll do
"20 on 6" - he didn't hear me
Indigenous African only spoke Zulu
My American tongue was slurry
Walked out the gas station
A homeless man with a semi-tan complexion
Asked me for ten rand, stressin' about dry land
Deep water, powder blue skies that crack open
A piece of crack that he wanted, I knew he was smokin'
He begged and pleaded
Asked me...

Three LNA operatives die in Derna
[Libya Herald] The Derna Mujahideen Shoura Council says that it killed three men it accuses of being agents provocateurs sent by the Libyan National Army to stir up dissension in the town.

It has claimed that the three – named as Anwar Al-Mansouri, Osama Al-Awkali and Akram Elawami and alleged to previously have been internal security officers – had been detected trying to enter the town on Friday night at its western checkpoint. They were then shot in an exchange of fire as they tried to excape.

However, other reports say they were captured and summarily executed. A photo of two of the bodies from the Shoura Council indicates they were shot in the head as well as in the back.

There has been no comment from the LNA. However, the chief of staff of the Libyan armed forces, Major-General Abdul Razzak Nazhuri, appointed military governor of all northern Cyrenaica by HoD president Ageela Saleh, has ordered the road from Derna to Ras Kirisah, 20 kilometres to the west, to be closed and close the coastal road tuber-consecrated from 8 pm to 10am.

Derna’s mujahideen are part of what can be described as Libya’s third force – the Islamist alliance which draws it together the Benghazi Revolutionaries Shoura Council, Benghazi Defence Brigades and Sadek Al-Ghariani but excludes the so-called Islamic State. Its prime enemy is the LNA and Khalifa Hafter but is also firmly opposed to the Presidency Council and the Government of National Accord in Tripoli.

Militants kill 7 Kandahar province
This is why Afghans can't have nice things.
The anti-government armed militants have killed at least seven of a family in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan, local officials said.

The incident took place late on Friday night in Shahwali Kot district after the gunmen stormed a residential house.

Provincial governor’s spokesman Samim Khpolwak confirmed that seven of a family including three women were killed in the attack.

Khpolwak further added that the incident took place in Kariz area of Shahwali Kot area and a gunman was also killed after the family responded to the attack.

He said the identity of the assailant yet to be confirmed and there are no reports regarding the main motive behind the incident.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident as earlier reports suggested that the Taliban insurgents were involved in the attack.

Kandahar is among the relatively volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating in a number of its districts.

The security situation had considerably improved in this province during the recent months despite Kandahar is known as teh birth place of the Taliban group.

Bangladesh
Militants belong to Awami League: Khaleda
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday alleged that all the militants belong to the ruling Awami League and they have to be arrested to restore peace in the country.
Khaleda has to say something to deflect attention. This is the best she could do. She's not particularly bright. It would be a race between her and Hillary...
“We had asked them to arrest militants and we’re in favour of tracking down extremists and we strongly support to rein them in. But all the militants are with Awami League. It’s a party of militants as local and foreign arms, ammunition and explosive are recovered from the possessions of its leaders and activists,” he said.

Speaking at an iftar party, the BNP chief also said the real trial of militants will be held if the extremists within the ruling party are arrested. “It’ll also help restore peace and public security in the country.”

Khaleda alleged that the law enforcers in the name of crackdown on militants arrested nearly 15,000 innocent people, including 3,000 BNP leaders and activists.
Especially BNP leaders and activists...
She demanded the government immediately release the arrested innocent people.

Mentioning that a grand festival of plundering and grabbing is going on across the country, the BNP chief alleged that even the Jatiya Press Club was captured, and pro-BNP journalists are being barred from holding an iftar mahfil there. “As they fear of holding an election there, they grabbed it by force.”

Speaking at the programme, BFUJ and DUJ leaders said they were forced to shift the iftar programme to the Supreme Court Bar auditorium from the Press Club premises in the face of obstruction by the club management.

Khaleda said the ruling party men are now grabbing people’s land, houses, property and plundering bank and other institutions as an illegal and unelected government is in power. She said had the government had minimum sense of dignity it would have resigned and taken steps for holding an election seeing what are written in local and foreign newspapers about it.

Putin: Russia to respond if Finland joins NATO
Russia will respond accordingly if neighboring Finland joins NATO, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said. However, he added that Moscow will try to begin a dialogue with NATO despite its expansion towards Russia’s borders.

Putin and Finnish President Sauli Niinisto agreed to develop a set of security measures to control flights over the Baltic Sea. Finland’s president said military flights should avoid turning off their identification devices in the region, which is frequented by both Russian and NATO planes.

Putin, in turn, noted that NATO planes conduct flights over the Baltics with their transponders off twice as often as Russian planes.
So the Russian planes do turn theirs off. Thanks for the admission, Vlad...
Russia intercepted several US aircraft over the Baltic Sea in close proximity to the country’s border in recent months, claiming the planes in question had their identification devices turned off.

Putin said Russia will respect Finland’s choice if it decides to join NATO, but will have to respond accordingly. The remarks were made at a joint press-conference of the two heads of state following their talks at the Kultaranta summer residence of the Finnish president.

Libyan forces advance in battle against ISIS
Libyan forces fighting to free the city of Sirte from ISIS forces have surrounded a conference hall in the area still held by militants after air strikes and clashes that killed at least three pro-government fighters, senior officials said.

Forces allied with Libya’s unity government began a campaign two months ago to free Sirte from ISIS, after militants took advantage of fighting between rival factions to gain territory and control the coastal city last year.

Three fighters were killed and more than 30 injured during fighting on Friday after ISIS militants were driven out of the residential 700 district in fierce clashes involving rockets, mortars and gun battles, a senior commander and hospital officials said.

Commanders of the forces, who are mainly from the nearby port city of Misrata, say remaining ISIS fighters are in an area around Sirte’s Ouagadougou conference complex and a nearby hospital. But snipers and landmines have slowed progress.

“Residential area 700 has been liberated and as of 6 p.m. the Ouagadougou center and the hospital are surrounded,” Mohamed Gnaidy, intelligence chief for Misrata forces told Reuters. “Our forces carried out air strikes on Ouagadougou.”

He said Misrata forces had also hit a house where several ISIS commanders were hiding, but it was unclear how many casualties they suffered or how long it would take to clear out remaining militants in Sirte.

An explosion damaged the Quds Mosque at the beginning of Tripoli’s Airport Road shortly after fajr (dawn) prayers this morning. Suggestions that it was a terror attack have, however, been denied by local residents who say that a private generator exploded.

Generators are once more working overtime as temperatures rise and the power cuts lengthen. It is around 40˚C again in Tripoli today and outages are back at around ten hours.

Afghanistan
Over 200 ISIS loyalists killed in Nangarhar raids
Over 200 loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group were killed during the operations launched nearly a week ago, local officials said.

The officials further added that the operations were jointly conducted by the Afghan security forces as well as the US forces who were carrying out drone strikes against the terror group.

According to the officials, the majority of the militants were killed in drone strikes in the restive Kot district.

The ISIS loyalists launched a major attack on police check posts in Kot district last month which left several people dead including the local residents and security personnel.

The officials in Nangarhar are saying that the fighting in the area forced around 500 families to flee the area as nearly 100 houses were set on fire by the loyalists of the terror group.

The provincial governor said Sunday that 131 ISIS loyalists were killed during the first two days of the clashes along with 12 security personnel.

The latest major attack by ISIS loyalists in Kot district comes as the terror group received major blows during the recent months as a result of the Afghan and US forces routine operations.

The US forces stepped up airstrikes against the ISIS loyalists earlier this year after they were granted more authorities by President Barack Obama.

The increased raids against ISIS loyalists followed amid concerns that they are attempting to expand foothold in the country besides attempting to consolidate operations with the terror group in Iraq and Syria.

N. Korea slams U.S. human rights report; vows to boost nuclear deterrent
North Korea lashed out at the United States Saturday for releasing what it claims is a fabricated report on human trafficking as it vowed to bolster up its nuclear deterrent for self-defense.

"The U.S. is the veritable tundra of human rights plagued by extreme human rights abuses that stun the world people," an unidentified spokesman for North Korea's Foreign Ministry said in an English-language comment carried by the country's official Korean Central News Agency.
"Veritable tundra"? That's clever...
The spokesman claimed that the U.S. has worked hard to fabricate such documents to try to bring down North Korea's social system.

"The more openly the U.S. lays bare its intention to do harm to the (North's) social system, the more strongly the latter will maintain its line of simultaneously pushing forward economic construction and the building of nuclear force to steadily bolster up its nuclear deterrent for self-defense both in quality and quantity," the spokesman said.

The angry reaction came after the U.S. designated North Korea as one of the world's worst countries for human trafficking for the 14th straight year on Thursday, saying the communist nation subjects its people to forced labor at home and abroad.

The State Department's annual "Trafficking in Persons Report 2016" put North Korea in the lowest Tier 3 of its four-step classification of countries. The North has been classified in the lowest category since the annual report began including it in 2003. Other Tier 3 countries include Iran, Russia, Sudan and Syria.

Istanbul airport attack toll rises to 45

's biggest city..

Dogan news agency reported that four-year-old Jordanian national Rayyan Mohammed, one of more than 200 people injured in the attacks, had died in hospital.

The Istanbul governor's office said 52 people were still in hospital, including 20 in intensive care.

The child's death came as a man sparked chaos by shouting "Suicide bomber!" in a crowded Istanbul market on Saturday, with the city still reeling from the attacks.

One woman was lightly injured in the panic in Umraniye, a working-class neighbourhood on Istanbul's Asian side. Police were called to the scene.

Turkish media have identified a Chechen, Akhmed Chatayev, as the criminal mastermind of the attacks, describing him as the head of an IS cell in Istanbul.

He is accused of planning two bombings in the city earlier this year in the Sultanahmet tourist district and the Istiklal shopping street, both of which killed foreigners.

Shaboobs retake towns following allied forces pull out
Al Shabaab fighters have retaken full control of two strategic towns in Bakol province , a day after Somali and AU troops surprise withdrawal, according to local official confirmation.
As night follows day...
Speaking in an interview with Radio Shabelle, Rabdhure administrator Mohamed Kheyre Salad said he is upset and shocked the pulling out of the allied forces from the towns after two years.
Upset, sure, but you can't be 'shocked' because you knew it would happen...
The coalition forces retreated from Rabdhure and Burdhuhule on Friday, giving Al Shabaab an access to move back in the towns without a resistance or a fight from SNA and Ethiopian troops. Al Shabaab secured the towns after they have been vacated by the allied troops, seizing the police stations an the administrative offices, hoisting their flag on the main entrance and exit routes.
Almost as if this is a plan. AMISOM pulls out, Shaboobs come in, AMISOM comes back, etc. Nice racket for both sides to make money from their respective donors...
Somali federal government forces backed by AU troops have withdrawn from several key towns in southern Somalia in the past, and the move allowed Al shabaab to make an easy comeback.

Perpetrator of Ankara car bomb attack killed in operation in Diyarbakır
More on this story from yesterday.
One of the perpetrators of the Feb. 17 car bomb attack in Ankara was killed in an operation in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır on June 30, security sources have said.

Mehmet Şirin Kocakaya, codenamed Şirin,
Um, great codename, Sirin, or is that "Sirin"?
was killed during a joint operation by soldiers and police officers in the Lice district and its environs.

The bomber was identified as Abdulbaki Sömer, who entered Turkey with a fake Syrian identity showing his name as “Salih Muhammed Neccar” in 2014, telling authorities that he had escaped Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) violence in Syria.

It has been also revealed that Sömer met Kocakaya after he arrived in Diyarbakır with a rented vehicle before the attack.

A total of 29 people were killed and dozens were wounded in the car bomb attack staged during the passing of a shuttle carrying military personnel on Feb. 17.

A splinter group from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK), claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was in retaliation for the situation in the southeastern district of Cizre and the policies of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Turkish officials claimed that the perpetrator was a Syrian national from the Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG), which Ankara considers to be the Syrian offshoot of the PKK.

A total of 15 people were also arrested in connection with the attack.

A Minnesota woman charged with supporting east African militant group al-Shabab is helping the federal government’s case against the ringleaders of a network of women who have sent thousands of dollars overseas to an organization the U.S. says is involved in terrorism.

Amina Mohamud Esse
...whose ancestors likely didn't emigrate from Sweden...
pleaded guilty to the charge in November 2014, according to case records that were unsealed Thursday. Allegedly part of a group of women organized online, prosecutors said Esse had sent roughly $500 overseas to a woman in Kenya, knowing the funds would eventually make their way to al-Shabab.

It adds another layer to the string of cases involving terrorism recruitment and support in Minnesota, home to the largest Somali population outside of the eastern Africa country. More than 20 young men have left the state since 2007 to join al-Shabab in Somalia, and roughly a dozen people have left in recent years to join militants in Syria.

The U.S. District Court of Minnesota kept the proceedings in Esse’s case private, as local District Attorney Andrew Luger’s office worried that divulging the details of her charges and her cooperation with the federal government could imperil the case against some of the ringleaders of the online group, who were also arrested in 2014.

“Al-Shabaab members and associates would obviously not accept or trust the defendant if they knew she had been charged and was cooperating with the FBI,” a court filing said.

But some of the records were unsealed this week as the trial against Muna Osman Jama and Hinda Osman Dhirane is set to begin in Virginia’s U.S. District Court on July 11. Esse is listed in the government’s scheduled witnesses for the trial against the two women, according to court records.

Ben Petok, a spokesman of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minnesota, declined to comment. Esse’s attorney did not return a voicemail seeking comment.

Jama and Dhirane were arrested in June 2014 and charged with 20 counts of providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization. Jama herself allegedly sent more than $3,300 overseas meant to help al-Shabab. Three others overseas were also charged, including their alleged point of contact in Nairobi.

According to the charges, Esse sent $500 overseas between December 2011 and April 2012 — payments that were shepherded by Jama, who was then living in Virginia.

Internet chat logs between Esse and Jama submitted by the federal government ahead of the trial show the pair of women discussing how to recruit more women to contribute money to their cause. In an April 2012 conversation, Esse expressed concern to Jama about being caught.

“Sister, I told you, do not connect me to anyone till we get to know the person well. . . . Do you want me to get arrested?” Esse wrote.

In exchange for her guilty plea and providing information against the other women, Esse was put on probation and banned from traveling outside of Minnesota, according to court records. She was also required to submit for a mental health evaluation.

Iraq
120 killed in Baghdad kabooms overnight
Nearly 120 people were killed and 200 wounded in two bombings overnight in Baghdad, most of them in a busy shopping area as residents celebrated Ramadan, police and medical sources said on Sunday.

The attack on the shopping area of Karrada is the deadliest since U.S.-backed Iraqi forces last month scored a major victory when it dislodged Islamic State from their stronghold of Falluja, an hour's drive west of the capital. It is also the deadliest so far this year.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi had ordered the offensive after a series of deadly bombings in Baghdad, saying Falluja served as a launchpad for such attacks on the capital. However, bombings have continued. A convoy carrying Abadi who had come to tour the site of the bombings was pelted with stones and bottles by residents, angry at what they felt were false promises of better security.

A refrigerator truck packed with explosives blew up in the central district of Karrada, killing 115 people and injuring at least 200. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement circulated online by supporters of the ultra-hard line Sunni group. It said the blast was a suicide bombing. Karrada was busy at the time as Iraqis eat out and shop late during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which ends next week with the Eid al-Fitr festival.

Video posted on social media showed a large blaze in the main street of Karrada, a largely Shi'ite district with a small Christian community and a few Sunni mosques. Reuters TV footage taken in the morning showed at least four buildings severely damaged or partly collapsed, including a shopping mall believed to be the target, and gutted cars scattered all around.

The toll climbed during the day as rescuers pulled out more bodies from under the rubble and people succumbed from their injuries.

Comments posted on social media accused security forces of continuing to use fake bomb detectors at checkpoints filtering traffic in Baghdad, five years after the scandal broke out about a device commonly known as the 'magic wand'.

A police officer in Baghdad confirmed these hand-held ADE 651 detectors were still in use. They were sold to Iraq and other nations by a British businessman who was jailed for 10 years in 2013 in the United Kingdom for endangering lives for profit.

AL SHAAB ATTACK

In a second attack, a roadside explosive device also blew up around midnight in a market in al-Shaab, a Shi'ite district in the north of the capital, killing at least two people, police and medical sources said.

Iraqi forces on June 26 declared the defeat of IS militants in Falluja, a historic bastion of Sunni insurgency, following a month of fighting.

Now the militants were "trying to compensate for their humiliating defeat in Falluja," said Jasim al-Bahadli, a former army officer and security analyst in Baghdad.

"It was a mistake for the government to think that the source of the bombings was restricted to just one area," he said. "There are sleeper cells that operate independently from each other."

Arabia
In Yemeni capital, signs of hatred toward Americans are everywhere
Thanks, Barack.
SANAA, Yemen — Driving around this war-battered capital, you can't help but notice the hate, particularly if you are an American. On giant billboards, scrawled on walls — it's everywhere.
The WaPo writer quietly approves, judging from the tone of this piece.
“America is killing the Yemeni people. They are feeding on our blood,” reads one billboard.

“Boycott American and Israeli products,” reads another.

Perhaps in no other city is anti-Americanism in such full display today.

The capital and much of this Middle Eastern nation are under the control of the Houthis, a northern Shiite rebel group with alleged ties to Iran. They took advantage of the political and security vacuum that emerged from the 2011 revolution here — part of the Arab Spring uprisings — that toppled longtime autocrat Ali Abdullah Saleh. By the fall of 2014, the Houthis had swept southward and occupied Sanaa. They forced Saleh's successor, U.S. and Western-backed Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, to resign last year. Soon after, the anti-American slogans emerged throughout the city.

On one level, the anger is an extension of the Houthis' credos. Their flag reads: "God is Great, Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse on the Jews, Victory to Islam."

On another level, the slogans are directed at the United States' involvement in Yemen's civil war. Washington is actively backing a Saudi-led coalition that's seeking to restore Hadi to power. The coalition's airstrikes, largely using U.S. and British-made bombs, have killed or wounded thousands of civilians, according to human rights groups and witnesses.

Some of the signs speak to a widespread mistrust of the West and its reasons for engaging in the Midde East. As in other parts of the Arab world, there's suspicion here that Washington has gone to war over the region's oil and other natural resources.
They haven't heard about fracking...
“The American companies enter a country to to steal its wealth and humiliate its people," reads another billboard.

The attitude is another indication of how far Washington's counter-terrorism objectives in Yemen have been eroded in the aftermath of the Arab revolutions. For years, successive U.S. administrations worked with Saleh to fight al-Qaeda's Yemen branch, widely seen by U.S. officials as the most lethal in the terrorist network. Known as Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula or AQAP, the group has staged attacks or attempted attacks on American and European soil in the last several years. Restoring the ability to effectively combat AQAP's ambitions is perhaps the key reason the Obama administration is backing the Saudi-led intervention into Yemen's civil war.

It's no surprise that the most creative attacks on the United States can be found on the walls of the now-shuttered Saudi embassy here. Every inch of the outer wall is covered in colorful graffiti.

Europe
US Has Another Close Call With Russian Ship in the Med
A Russian ship again made a close approach to a U.S. Navy ship in the Mediterranean Sea in an encounter that American officials are labeling "unprofessional."

On Thursday, the Russian frigate Yaroslav Mudryy came within 150 yards of the guided missile cruiser USS San Jacinto -- two weeks after the same Russian ship came within 315 yards of the American destroyer USS Gravely.

The USS San Jacinto was operating near the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D Eisenhower in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, where it is conducting flight operations against ISIS targets in Iraq and Syria.

According to Captain Danny Hernandez, a spokesman for U.S. European Command, the Yaroslav Mudryy positioned itself about 650 yards from the American cruiser. "Then, Yaroslav Mudryy repeatedly informed San Jacinto over VHF radio of its intended course, as the Yaroslay Mudryy maneuvered towards and unnecessarily close to USS San Jacinto before turning away," said Hernandez.

According to a defense official, the Russian frigate came within 150 yards of the USS San Jacinto. The Yaroslav Mudryy then maneuvered within San Jacinto’s wake, though at much farther distance of approximately 3,000 yards behind the cruiser, the defense official said.

"San Jacinto was never threatened by the erratic maneuvers, as San Jacinto maintained course and speed. But the closing distance by Yaroslay Mudryy before the ship turned away from San Jacinto is considered a high-risk maneuver, highly unprofessional, and contrary to international maritime regulations," said Hernandez.
I think the word he was looking for was 'nekulturny'...
"Conducting aggressive, erratic maneuvers and moving unnecessarily close to another ship in open ocean is inconsistent with prudent seamanship," he added. The commander of the San Jacinto determined that the Russian frigate's actions were "unprofessional when it maneuvered unnecessarily close to USS San Jacinto." But its later actions were judged to have been "routine, safe and professional."

However, the Yaroslav Mudryy's close encounter on June 17 with the USS Gravely was judged to have been "unsafe and unprofessional," as it came within 315 yards of the American destroyer while weaving in and out of its wake. In addition to the close approach that day, the Russian ship had earlier flown international signal flags that indicated it was not maneuvering, according to officials, and one official speculated that that may have been a way to draw the American destroyer to its position.

The Russian Defense Ministry released video to make its case that it was the Gravely that had acted unprofessionally. However, a U.S. official said that the video was a case of selective editing since it was the Russian ship that was weaving in and out of the Gravely's wake. U.S. European Command said the Russian vessel's actions that day were intended to intentionally disrupt the operations of the nearby aircraft carrier USS Harry S Truman.

"We are concerned every time an unprofessional ship maneuvers occurs," said Hernandez. "These actions can unnecessarily escalate tensions between countries, and could result in dangerous miscalculations or accidents."

PM approves new homes in Kiryat Arba in response to attacks
[IsraelTimes] Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman approved on Saturday the publication of a tender to build 42 additional homes in the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba.

According to Channel 10, the tender was in the works six months ago but was essentially frozen by the government until Friday’s decision, announced a day later.

The announcement came two days after 13-year-old Hallel Yaffa Ariel was stabbed to death by a Palestinian terrorist in her bedroom on Thursday morning in the settlement, close to the Palestinian town of Hebron. A civilian security guard who responded to the brutal attack was seriously injured by the Palestinian assailant, Muhammad Nasser Tarayrah, 17, from Bani Naim. Tarayrah was shot and killed by other guards.

The new homes were a part of a series of measures announced by the Israeli government in response to the terror attack in Kiryat Arba, including a closure on Bani Naim and cancellation of work permits of the attacker’s relatives.

Another terror attack on Friday near Hebron killed a rabbi, Miki Mark, and seriously injured his wife while they were driving on Route 60. Two of their children were also wounded in the shooting attack.

In response, the IDF stepped up its troop presence in the West Bank, sending two battalions to help secure settlements and the main roads used by Israelis. A closure on Hebron was also imposed.

On Friday, Gaza rocket fire hit a vacant pre-school in Sderot in southern Israel. The structure sustained damage and a number of people were treated for shock.

Netanyahu was to convene his security cabinet Saturday night to discuss a response to the escalation since Thursday.

Politicians and public figures have demanded a tough response to the deadly violence, including the expulsion of terrorists’ families to Gaza or Syria, as suggested by Likud minister Yisrael Katz.

Education Minister Naftali Bennett, who leads the Orthodox-nationalist Jewish Home party, said he would present a far-reaching plan to halt the wave of terror attacks on Saturday.

Suggestions included in his plan, he said, were the imprisonment or expulsion of terrorists’ families; the arrest of all Hamas operatives in the West Bank; the destruction of thousands of illegally built homes in the West Bank; the complete closure of the villages of assailants; resumption of full military activity in West Bank areas that are under the control of the Palestinian Authority; preventing Palestinian vehicles from traveling on Route 60 — the West Bank’s main north-to-south road; and disabling the Internet in the entire Hebron region.

Saturday’s construction announcement comes after a Quartet report Thursday demanded that Israel take urgent steps to halt the expansion of settlements in the West Bank, citing it as one of three “negative trends” that must be quickly reversed to keep the hope of an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal alive.

Abbas refusing to condemn terror surge, ‘not taking calls’ from world statesmen
[IsraelTimes] PA leader said to fear Israel about to take punitive measures that will weaken him, furious about Quartet report that blasted Paleostinian incitement

Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
had refused, as of Saturday night, to condemn the current surge in Paleostinian terrorism, including the killing of a 13-year-old Israeli girl on Thursday and a father of 10 on Friday. He is also reportedly refusing to take calls from Israeli and world leaders who are seeking to encourage him to speak out.

As of Saturday night, Abbas had made no official statement in response to the killing of Hallel Yaffa Ariel, who was stabbed to death as she slept in her bedroom at home in Kiryat Arba, near Hebron, on Thursday morning, or the drive-by shooting on Friday afternoon of Rabbi Miki Mark.

A Channel 2 report on Saturday said numerous Israeli and world leaders had contacted Abbas, pleading with him in particular to speak out publicly in the case of Ariel, but to no avail. Abbas, said the report, is even refusing to take some of the calls.

He has also ordered media loyal to him in the Paleostinian Authority to keep the terror cases out of the headlines.

The report said Abbas feels that the PA is growing weaker and losing control, and is concerned that the Israeli cabinet -- which was meeting on Saturday night -- is about to take punitive measures that will weaken him further.

He is also said to be furious with the international Quartet
... The Quartet are the UN (xylophone), the United States (alto), the European Union (soprano), and Russia (shortstop). The group was established in Madrid in 2002 by former Spanish Prime Minister Aznar, as a result of the escalating conflict in the Middle East. Tony Blair is the Quartet's current Special Envoy....
, which on Friday issued a much-anticipated report that predictably castigated Israel for settlement building but also, unexpectedly, issued withering criticism of incitement against Israel and the glorifying of terrorism by the PA.

"Many widely circulated images depict individuals committing terrorist acts with slogans encouraging violence," the report states. Incitement to violence on social media, affecting especially young people, has increased since October 2015 (coinciding with the ongoing wave of Paleostinian terrorism; RA), and is particularly affecting the youth, the Quartet further establishes.

The text notes that Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and "other radical factions" are behind the worst examples of incitement. "These groups use media outlets to glorify terrorism and openly call for violence against Jews, including instructing viewers on how to carry out stabbings." But it also blames some "members of Fatah," Abbas’s party, for having "publicly supported attacks and their perpetrators, as well as encouraged violent confrontation." It cites a senior Fatah official who praised hard boyz as "heroes and a crown on the head of every Paleostinian."

The PA has publicly renounced terrorism against civilians and commitment to non-violent resistance, the report notes. "Regrettably, however, Paleostinian leaders have not consistently and clearly condemned specific terrorist attacks. And streets, squares and schools have been named after Paleostinians who have committed acts of terrorism."

The PA’s Saeb Erekat
...negotiated the Oslo Accords with Israel. He has been chief Paleostinian negotiator since 1995. He is currently negotiating with Israel to establish a de jure Paleostinian state...
on Friday blasted the report’s authors. The document, he said, "does not meet our expectations as a nation living under a foreign colonial military occupation." It "attempts to equalize the responsibilities between a people under occupation and a foreign military occupier," Erekat protested.

Iran receiving 2nd part of Russian S-300 delivery
The second part of Russian S-300 systems delivery to Iran is underway, commander of Iran’s Khatam ol-Anbiya Air Defense Base, Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili has told reporters, according to Fars news agency.

The first part of S-300 surface-to-air missile systems delivery to Iran was carried out in April. Esmaili also said the S-300 will be entirely delivered to Iran by March 2017.

The $800-million contract on S-300, signed in 2007 by Iran and Russia, was frozen by Moscow in 2010 due to the UN Security Council sanctions on Tehran, but President Vladimir Putin unfroze the deal in 2015.

Author and Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel dead
A great man, a great writer, and a witness. Rest in peace and be with your loved ones.
Elie Wiesel, who survived the Holocaust and went on to become an influential author and Nobel Peace Prize winner, has died at 87, Israel's Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem said on Saturday.

Yad Vashem, the world center for Holocaust research, documentation, education and commemoration, confirmed Wiesel's death in a tweet 'Yad Vashem mourns the passing of Elie Wiesel-Holocaust survivor, Nobel laureate, renowned author,' the museum said on Twitter.

Wiesel was born in Romania in 1928. At age 15, while pursuing Jewish studies, he and his family were taken by the Nazis to Auschwitz, where his mother and younger sister died. Wiesel survived Auschwitz, but was later transferred to Buchenwald, where his farther perished.

Wiesel's experiences in the concentration camps became the basis for his book 'Night', which won him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. Wiesel was liberated from the camp in 1945 and went on to study at the Sorbonne in Paris from 1948 until 1951.

He became a journalist and learned French, which became the primary language he wrote in for Israeli and French publications. For the next decade he refused to discuss what he had been subjected to during the Holocaust. Later, a rabbi convinced him to document his experience in the camps.

Buddhist Myanmar Mob Torches Mosque as Religious Tensions Spike
[AnNahar] A mob wielding weapons razed a mosque in northern Myanmar, state media reported Saturday, the second attack of its kind in just over a week as anti-Muslim sentiment swells in the Buddhist majority nation.

Myanmar has struggled to contain bouts of deadly religious bloodshed in recent years, with bristling sectarian tensions and rising Buddhist nationalism posing a steep challenge to the new government led by Aung San Suu Kyi.

On Friday villagers in Hpakant, a jade-mining town in northern Kachin state, ransacked a mosque "wielding sticks, knives and other weapons" before burning it down, according to the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar.

"The mob was unresponsive and entirely beyond control. The building was razed by the riotous crowd," the paper reported, adding that the rampage was sparked by a dispute over the mosque's construction.

No arrests have been made, it said.

A local NGO worker who visited the town Saturday told Agence La Belle France Presse security forces had been deployed to maintain order.

"Police are now controlling the area and it is stable," said Dashi Naw Lawn, from the Kachin Network Development Foundation.

The riot came eight days after a Buddhist mob destroyed a mosque in central Bago, forcing the Muslim community to seek refuge in a neighboring town.

Tensions are also rising in western Rakhine, a state scarred by deadly riots in 2012 that have left communities almost completely divided along religious lines.

The region is home to the stateless Rohingya, a Muslim minority largely relegated to destitute displacement camps and subject to host of restrictions on their movements and access to basic services.

Suu Kyi, a veteran democracy activist who championed her country's struggle against repressive military rulers, has drawn criticism from rights groups for not taking swifter moves to carve out a solution for the ethnic minority.

Her government recently ordered officials to refer to the group as "people who believe in Islam in Rakhine State" instead of Rohingya -- a term whose use has set off protests by hardliners who insist the group are illegal immigrants colonists from Bangladesh.

Yet the government's broad phrase has failed to placate local Rakhine Buddhists, who demand the group be referred to only as "Bengalis" and say they are preparing to rally in protest at the order on Sunday.

After a 12-day visit across the country, including troubled Rakhine, a UN rights investigator warned Friday that "tensions along religious lines remain pervasive across Myanmar society".

Yanghee Lee urged the country's new civilian government to make "ending institutionalized discrimination against the Muslim communities in Rakhine State...an urgent priority".
UPI adds at 8:45 a.m. ET:
The mosque administration had failed to meet a Thursday deadline to raze the building to make way for a bridge. Ma Ba Tha, a Buddhist nationalist group, says the mosque was built without permission from the government, but Thein Aung, chairman of the mosque's caretaker group, claims the structure was built more than 20 years ago.
These two things are not mutually exclusive, especially given the following:
Myanmar's government won't grant citizenship to the country's Rohingya muslims. About 1.1 million people are illegal immigrants colonists from neighboring Bangladesh and about 140,000 people -- mostly Rohingyas -- have been living in camps in Rakhine during a clash between the majority Buddhists and Rohingyas in 2012.
All this time I thought Rohingya was the name of a tribe of some sort, but really all it means is wetback.

Obama hints at a future in VC
In seven months, Barack Obama will leave the White House as president of the United States. He's going to need a job. In an interview with Bloomberg on June 13, he hinted at the possibility of joining entrepreneurs and venture capitalists in Silicon Valley.

Obama said "had I not gone into politics, I'd probably be starting some kind of business," said Obama. "The skill set of starting my presidential campaigns‐and building the kinds of teams that we did and marketing ideas‐I think would be the same kinds of skills that I would enjoy exercising in the private sector. … The conversations I have with Silicon Valley and with venture capital pull together my interests in science and organization in a way I find really satisfying."
No doubt he does.
On hearing the news, Valley investors were quick to save the president a spot on Sand Hill Road.

With Obama as investor-in-chief a possibility, we asked prominent venture capitalists if the president had what it takes to do well in the hyper-competitive venture world. Without exception, every firm said Obama would be a natural fit (several extended job offers and invites to "grab coffee"). A few gave some good-natured pointers on what Obama could to do to up his game before his first day.

Few can motivate and mobilize people better than Obama.

The Republic has rarely seen an orator like Obama.
So true. But I note the distinct lack of adjectives in that sentence.
Obama's first campaign raised an unprecedented coalition that powers the Democratic party to this day.
And his second campaign?
Startups demand those same skills to rally founders and employees. Obama's presidential experience building alliances and inspiring entrepreneurs could be invaluable, says Beebe at Obvious Ventures.
I could also regain the body and energy I had at 25. It isn't likely, but that miracle might yet happen.
"He's kind of perfect for the job," says Ari Bloom, an investor and CEO of the fashion technology firm Avametric. "He's got experience sitting through presentations that require a translator, he meets with people every day that nobody expects him to remember, and he's kissed a lot of crying babies, so he can definitely work well with founders."
That is about the most impressive damning with faint praise I've ever seen.
Pascal Finette at Singularity University also said Obama's decision to finally ditch the Blackberry in favor of a new smartphone was also a sign that he's ready for the Valley.
That's up there, too.

China-Japan-Koreas
Pudgy "willing" to improve ties with China
North Korean leader Fat Boy Kim Jong-un has voiced his "willingness" to develop relations between Pyongyang and Beijing in his message to Chinese President Xi Jinping, the North's state media said Friday.
The Chinese just have to do what they're told...
The North's leader delivered such remarks in a congratulatory message to Xi on Thursday to mark the 95th anniversary of the founding of China's communist party, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

"We have a willingness to develop together with the Chinese comrades the DPRK-China friendship with long historical roots as required by the new century ... and defend peace and security in Northeast Asia," Kim was quoted as saying by the KCNA.

The move is seen as part of the North's efforts to mend strained ties with China ahead of their key anniversary this month. North Korea and China will mark the 55th anniversary of the signing of a military treaty on July 11 amid the possibility that Beijing may send a high-ranking official to Pyongyang in return for the latest visit by the North's party official Ri Su-yong to China.

Also on July 27, North Korea will mark the 63rd anniversary of what it claims is its victory in the 1950-53 Korean War, which ended in a truce. China fought alongside the North against South Korea, the United States and the U.N. forces.

Iraq
2 ISIS Top Dawgs die in Mosul airstrike
(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) informed on Saturday that two top-ranked ISIS leaders were killed during an aerial bombing in Mosul by the international coalition aviation.

Peter Cook, the US Department of Defense spokesman, in a statement issued to the media said, “The international coalition aviation carried out air strikes on June 25 near Mosul. The air strikes targeted ISIS Deputy Minister of War Bassem Mohamed Ahmed Sultan al-Bajari and the military leader in Mosul Hatem Taleb al-Hamdouni. Both leaders were killed on the spot.

Adding further Cook said, “Bajari was a former al-Qaeda leader and supervised the attack that was launched to control Mosul in June 2014. On the other hand, al-Hamadouni was a military leader in Mosul and the military police chief of the area,” further adding, “Mosul has become ISIS bastion in Iraq.”

China-Japan-Koreas
Namibia restricting military cooperation with N Korea
Whew...
A high-powered Namibian delegation met officials in North Korea last weekend to, amongst others, review some of the Asian country’s projects in Namibia, which recently drew threats of UN sanctions.

A military project between Namibia and North Korea is said to be in defiance of the UN Security Council, which banned, among others, any technology transfer or training that could be used for military purposes between North Korea and UN member countries.

It is understood the recent meetings and measures taken by the Namibian government are aimed at observing international law and complying with the directives of the United Nations committee on sanctions.

International Relations Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s meetings over the past weekend with North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho and titular head of state Kim Jong-un also touched on talks related to the development of “friendly and cooperative relations… and other issues of mutual concern,” state-owned Korea Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.

North Korea is understood to be currently building a munitions factory in Namibia, but President Hage Geingob – speaking on the matter during his State of the Nation Address in April – said the agreement was entered into before UN sanctions were imposed on Pyongyang. President Geingob was, therefore, of the view that the country’s dealings with Pyongyang were not in defiance of any statues, as suggested by critics.

Also in April, a Namibian delegation to a New York conference met the UN committee on sanctions to explain the country’s relations with North Korea. In that meeting, Namibia is said to have clarified that all its dealings with the East Asian country were agreed upon before the UN passed sanctions against North Korea – a country often accused of gross human rights violations.

New Era reported later in April that the UN exonerated Namibia from any wrongdoing, but it now appears the country was urged to toe the line on new dealings with Pyongyang. Yesterday Minister Nandi-Ndaitwah told New Era that she was still at the airport and was therefore unable to provide further clarity on the subject. “I’m coming to address that matter when I arrive in the country,” she briefly said.

It is not likely that Namibia would wholly cease relations with North Korea, but New Era understands that the munition project is likely to be discontinued. Namibia’s attempt to place on ice North Korea’s military projects in the country is seen as government fulfilling its international commitments regarding the matter.

North Korean firms were previously involved in the construction of Namibia’s State House, Heroes’ Acre monument, the military museum at Okahandja, the Independence Museum in Windhoek and other military construction projects that are now said to be prohibited under the UN sanctions.

Perhaps the clearest hint of the government’s stance on the subject came when Nandi-Ndaitwah, during an interview with the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) in New York two months ago, said the country would continue to cooperate with the UN in this matter. “There is nothing really to worry about and we want to assure our people that as a government we will continue to cooperate with the UN,” she was quoted as saying.

Ties between Namibia and North Korea date back to the days of the anti-colonial struggle when the Asian nation supported Namibia – and cordial diplomatic relations continued after independence.

Bangladesh
Three students at US universities reported dead in Dhaka attack
The president of Emory University said on Saturday two students were killed in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where an attack on a cafe and 12-hour siege left 20 hostages and two police officers dead.

An Indian government minister said an Indian citizen who was studying at the University of California at Berkeley was also killed. Italian and Japanese officials said nine and seven citizens respectively were killed. The nationality of at least one victim remained unknown.

Thirteen people were rescued after Bangladeshi police commandos stormed the Holey Artisan Bakery in the diplomatic area of the city. The two officers who died were killed during the violent standoff with police, whom militants met with gunfire and grenades. Six militants were killed.

The Emory students were identified as Abinta Kabir, from Miami, and Faraaz Hossain, from Dhaka. Both attended Oxford College at the private research university in Atlanta. India’s minister of external affairs, Sushma Swaraj, named the Indian citizen who died as Tarushi Jain, 19.
