Russian hackers are selling British officials' passwords
h/t Instapundit
Thousands of passwords belonging to British officials are being traded among Russian hackers, according to a report.

As part of an investigation by The Times, the London-based publication found passwords that belonged to 1,000 British members of Parliament and staff, 7,000 police employees and more than 1,000 diplomats. The country's education secretary, Justine Greening, and business secretary, Greg Clark, were also swept up in the breach.

Their passwords were being sold in bulk on the internet underground known as the dark web and on Russian-language hacking websites, according to the report.

Hackers have targeted Parliament's email system in an attempt to access the accounts of hundreds of MPs, Lords, aides and staff.

Security services are to shut down access for anyone not in Westminster as part of efforts to secure the network.

'Normally a quiet and secluded neighborhood.'
[CBS46 Atlanta] A Fayette County man died early Friday morning as a result of a stab wound in his home.

At 2:30 a.m., deputies responded to a call at a residence on the 100 block of Lake Horton Landing Drive off Brooks Wesley Road.

Police arrived to the home and found two homeowners, husband and wife; and the male homeowner with an apparent stab wound.

The victim, identified as 74-year-old Albert Eugene DeMagnus, was transported to Piedmont Fayette Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim's wife told investigators that she awoke hearing a disturbance in another part of the home and saw three men near her husband, who was suffering from an apparent stab wound.

CNN deletes, retracts story linking Trump and Russia
"The basic premise, facts, and narrative were false. Other than that, we stand by our story"
On Thursday evening, CNN investigative reporter Thomas Frank published a potentially explosive report involving an investigation of a Russian investment fund with potential ties to several associates of President Donald Trump.

But by Friday night, the story was removed from CNN's website and all links were scrubbed from the network's social media accounts.

"That story did not meet CNN's editorial standards and has been retracted," CNN said in an editors note posted in place of the story. "Links to the story have been disabled."

Neither Frank or CNN immediately responded to requests for comment, and a spokesperson for the Senate Intelligence Committee wasn't available to comment.

Frank, a Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist, had reported that the Senate Intelligence Committee was investigating a "$10-billion Russian investment fund whose chief executive met with a member of President Donald Trump's transition team four days before Trump's inauguration."

In addition to retracting its story, CNN also apologized to Anthony Scaramucci, an adviser to Trump during the presidential campaign and a member of his transition team's executive committee, who was mentioned in the story as having met Kirill Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) that the network said is overseen by Vnesheconombank, a state-run bank that is currently under U.S. sanctions.

According to the report, the meeting between Scarmucci and Dmitriev could have included the issue of sanctions being lifted, but a spokesperson for the RDIF told Sputnik News, a state-run Russian news channel, that the fund is not a part of Vnesheconombank.

Mainstream Media Misrepresents NRA's Position on Right-to-Carry Permits
[NRA-ILA] There is an ongoing debate as to the severity of the decline in the modern attention span. However, in a world pervaded by 140 character messages and trivial clickbait articles, few would argue that many are now consuming information more rapidly and in smaller pieces. In this environment, an article’s headline has become increasingly important, taking an outsized role in conveying the information within.

Therefore, when a headline contains misleading information, whether due to political motivation or simple inaccuracy, it is not without consequence.

Take the following.....

Judiciary Chair Grassley steamrolling Dems to confirm POTUS judicial nominees
[LI] This may be the least covered major story of the Trump era, so far at least.
While the media and Democrats are obsessed with increasingly bizarre Trump-Russia conspiracy theories, and failed attempts to flip Special Election congressional seats, an enormous change to the federal judiciary is well underway.

We have been covering this story, and the relative lack of media coverage, for months. Most recently, I wrote While you were focused on COMEY, Trump nominated another group of CONSERVATIVE Judges:

While everyone was focused on Comey’s prepared statement, Trump went about his business filling vacancies in the federal judiciary. I wrote about this a month ago, Trump begins counter-packing federal courts, Dems can’t stop him thanks to Reid Rule:

As we have pointed out repeatedly, Trump has an unprecedented opportunity to nominate a substantial percentage of the federal judiciary.

There are currently over 100 vacancies, and many more are likely to open up, Liberal nightmare: Trump could appoint half federal judiciary. Yet Democrats, so blinded by the light of #TheResistance, appeared oblivious to the approaching Tsunami of Trump lower court nominations.

Today the first waves of the Trump judicial nomination tsunami hit the beaches in D.C. Those ten nominees received mostly rave reviews, as detailed in that prior post.

The second wave of conservative nominees landed on Wednesday ....
I ended that post with this caution:

Now Mitch McConnell and the Senate Judiciary Committee need to do their job and get these people quick hearings and up or down votes.

It appears that Republicans in the Senate are moving rapidly on the nominations. And some liberal media is beginning to pay attention.

Foreign student population in U.S. grows to 1.2 million
[Wash Times] Nearly 1.2 million foreign students are living and studying at schools in the U.S., Homeland Security reported Friday, with the vast majority of those coming from Asia.

The data, collected by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement from its student and exchange visitor database, said the number is up 2 percent compared to 2016.

China dominates the program, with 362,368 students, trailed by India at 206,698.

More than 500,000 of the students are pursuing science, technology, engineering or math degrees -- a group that has been the focus of intense debate.

Business leaders say those are the kinds of workers the U.S. needs, and have proposed granting quick paths to citizenship to them to keep them here. But technology worker advocates worry about competition with American citizens in those fields.

Supreme Court Limits Rights Of Property Owners
[Daily Caller] The Supreme Court constrained the rights of property owners Friday, establishing a test that favors government officials in assessing the loss of property value caused by government regulations.

Writing for a 5-3 court, Justice Anthony Kennedy explained that state and local officials can combine separate parcels of land in assessing whether local government has effectively seized private property through regulation, requiring compensation. Kennedy’s opinion was joined by Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan. Chief Justice John Roberts filed a fiery dissent, joined by Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.

The case concerned a Wisconsin family called the Murrs, who argued that the government has unconstitutionally taken their land by refusing to allow them to sell it.

Afghanistan
Afghanistan: Just walk away
[American Thinker] Our involvement in Afghanistan is untenable because the country is untenable. No matter what is done, Afghanistan will fail because of its galloping population growth.

When the U.S. became involved in 2001, the country had a population of 20.5 million. Now it is 34.4 million, up nearly 70 percent. In the intervening 16 years, the U.S. spent about one trillion dollars and 2,000 lives in stabilizing Afghanistan. All the stability and free food provided just created a perfect breeding environment for the natives.

The population growth rate has settled at 3.0 percent per annum. At that rate, in another 16 years, there will be 55.2 million Afghans, most of whom will need imported grain to keep body and soul together. The Afghani proclivity to breed will only be curbed by starvation. That will happen at some stage because, even if we wanted to underwrite that population expansion, getting the necessary quantity of food into the country will become more and more difficult.

Perhaps that situation is beginning now. The U.N.'s Food and Agriculture Organization has reported that 8.4 million Afghans are in an acute food insecurity crisis.

#8  According to Wikipedia, over 5 million Afghan refugees have been repatriated from Pakistan and Iran since 2002, providing the first 25 points of the 70% population increase.

Pakistan still has an estimated 1.7 million Afghan refugees remaining, while Iran has an estimated 2.5 million. It should be noted, as the Wikipedia article does, that Afghan women who grew up in Iran adopted Iranian attitudes toward family planning and birth control, and have brought that back with them along with their Iranian educations.

In His 'Soetoro's' Own Image: How to 'Flip' a Country
[American Thinker] The President of the United States for eight years was, and still is, a hidden identity. But what can be known of him, short of all that is still hidden, can be aligned with subtle and difficult to detect forces put in place by his administration. It is easy to see how these "forces" are an extension of his persona, and signal his stated desire to reshape the United States of America. Fundamental transformation was the key phrase.

Breitbart repors that the federal government, "our" federal government, promotes and funds programs that enable foreign students to enter our universities.
The little-known "Optional Practical Training" program has grown from 91,140 new foreign job-seekers in 2009 to 329,158 new job-seekers in 2016, according to data provided by the Department of Homeland Security. That is almost a four-fold increase in seven years -- and the program is growing even larger in 2017.

More disquieting, domestic corporations were paid through tax considerations to hire foreigners over the sons and daughters of citizens of the United States. The money for this was extracted by those harmed by the program, the citizen.
In 2014, the OPT program provided work permits to 249,998 foreign graduates, according to the data provided to Breitbart News by the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the program. Two years later, the number of new foreign graduates entering the program had risen by 32 percent up to 329,158.

Skipping to the bottom line...

The failure to enforce immigration law, the promotion of foreign students and their employment funded by the American taxpayer, the non-enforcement of overstayed visas, all result in an eight year push to engorge the United States with foreigners in advance of and elevated over our very own. This is the harvest from eight years of Barack Hussein Obama. It is no mistake, but rather a calculated undercurrent set in motion by his sympathies and his persona, both of which are as foreign as you may wish to imagine.
Emphasis added.

Frustrated Dems say Obama 'botched' Russia response (Video)
[The Hill] The Obama administration is under fresh scrutiny for its response to Russian meddling in the election after new details emerged this week about how the White House weighed its actions against the 2016 political environment.

Then-President Obama was too cautious in the months leading up to the election, frustrated Democratic lawmakers and strategists say.

"It was inadequate. I think they could have done a better job informing the American people of the extent of the attack," said Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), a member of the House Intelligence Committee who co-chairs the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.

And even after the election was over, they say, the penalties Obama levied were too mild to appropriately punish what by all accounts was an unprecedented attack on a U.S. election.

Barracks' Lawyer's Comeuppance?
h/t Gates of Vienna
At the end of the week, Mario Manago, 33, will be out of the Air Force after 12 years.

But he’s not just out of a job -- he’s now convicted of a federal crime.

His offense? Being six minutes late to a meeting.

Manago, of Willingboro, was convicted at court-martial March 9 of failing to go to his "appointed place of duty." He was late to a meeting he requested with his commander to discuss his concerns that he was being treated unfairly by his supervisors at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Burlington County, according to him and his attorney.

#1  ...There's a lot wrong and/or missing from this article, but keep this in mind first: you still have to work pretty hard to find your backside standing tall in front of a General Court Martial, and I guarantee it ain't gonna happen JUST for being six minutes late to a meeting. #3  If it was a special or general courts martial, he now has a federal felony conviction on his record.

for those not attuned to military culture, the usual process is to offer the individual an Article 15 non-judicial administrative punishment. He/she/it can refuse and take a courts martial. The first level courts martial is a summary, which he/she/it can refuse and progress to a special and finally up to the general courts martial. The penalties increase the higher you go. The latter two involve defense lawyers and the full court room gig. Because the latter two are so administratively intensive, most commands try to avoid doing them except in the cast of the most serious offenses. Thus, one may come to the conclusion, this was a 'self inflicted' wound.

As a side note, in the general courts martial the enlisted person can ask that one third of the board be made up of enlisted personnel. Having been there, I don't recommend it. They are the least sympathetic members of the board. Strangely enough, the most sympathetic board member is often the senior officer, who usually is removed from the board by defense lawyers using their one free challenge.

In a letter to Ms. Lynch, the committee asks her to detail the depths of her involvement in the FBI’s investigation, including whether she ever assured Clinton confidantes that the probe wouldn’t "push too deeply into the matter."

The three Hizbullah members were in a car that fell in an IS ambush in the Syrian desert east of Palmyra on Thursday, reports said.

Pro-Hizbullah media reports said the three members of the Lebanese group were a medic and two logistical support officers and that they had lost their way before falling into the ambush.

The IS group's propaganda agency had on Thursday published a video showing the bodies of two Hizbullah members as well as the captive Death Eater who was eventually executed.

A Lebanese ID that appears in the video belongs to 29-year-old Rami Bassam al-Asaad.

Hizbullah has announced the death of five of its members over the past hours, identifying them as Rami Bassam al-Asaad, Rabih Afif Ollaiq, Ali Abbas Badran, Ahmed Haidar al-Asmar and Ali Dandash Dandash who was described as a commander.

Europe
Macron Government Takes Tough Line on Calais Migrants
I am utterly shocked. Perhaps it is not too late.
[AnNahar] French President Emmanuel Macron's new government took a tough line on Calais migrants colonists Friday, with his interior minister saying he does not want the northern port to become an "abscess".

Making his first visit to a city which has for years been a magnet for migrants colonists and refugees hoping to cross to Britannia, Interior Minister Gerard Collomb ruled out building a reception centre for asylum-seekers in Calais, saying it would only encourage more people to come.

"We've seen this before, it starts with a few hundred people and ends with several thousand people who we can't manage," Collomb said as he met with security forces, officials and aid workers in Calais.

"That's why we don't want a centre here."

Instead, Collomb said, "we are going to reinforce security with the arrival of two additional mobile security force units to stop any new camps from forming."

Authorities shut down the notorious "Jungle" camp in Calais, which at its height was home to some 10,000 people living in dire conditions, last October.

But hundreds of migrants colonists -- mostly Afghans, Sudanese and Eritrea
...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age...
ns -- are still at the port, clashing sporadically with police as they try every night to stow away onto trucks heading to Britannia.

This week a Polish driver was killed when his truck burst into flames after hitting a roadblock, set up by migrants colonists hoping to slow the traffic to make it easier to jump onto vehicles.

The roadblocks began reappearing in late May with a new uptick of migrants colonists in the region -- and a surge for Europe, with Italia registering more than 65,000 arrivals since January.

While the tent city of the Jungle is gone, migrants colonists say conditions in Calais are bleaker than ever.

"There is no tap and we cannot drink, we cannot wash. There is nowhere to sleep. At night I sleep without a tent on the 'mountain'," said Jamal, a 24-year-old Afghan, pointing to a huge rubbish dump.

- 'They are not dirt' -
Collomb pledged Friday to present Macron with a plan for asylum reforms in the next two weeks, vowing in particular to tackle African people-smuggling networks at their root.

Eleven charities went to court on Wednesday demanding the construction of a government refugee centre in Calais, deploring the miserable conditions in which migrants colonists find themselves.

Collomb had angered aid groups with comments Thursday rejecting the proposal, saying that building such a centre would be like creating an artificial festering "abcess" that would keep growing.

"These people are not a disease, they are not dirt. They are men and women who have made a very difficult journey to flee their countries for reasons we all know about," said Hicham Aly, an aid worker at the Secours Catholique charity.

Collomb argued that past experience showed that any official asylum facility in Calais would quickly overflow with arrivals, leaving authorities unable to cope.

"I'm suspicious of centres that are supposedly ready to welcome migrants colonists for only a few days who end up staying for a long time," he said.

He pointed to Sangatte near Calais, where a refugee centre that opened in 1999 quickly ran over its capacity of 800 residents. By the time it closed three years later, some 2,000 people were crammed into it.

Accused Flint stabber was truck driver, married father of 3
[bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit

FreePress] The man accused of stabbing a police officer at the Flint airport Wednesday is a married father of three children, who worked on and off as a truck driver and indicated he had no mental health problems, according to newly released audio of his federal court hearing.

Amor Ftouhi, 49, was born in Tunisia and had citizenship there and in Canada, where he lived for the past decade.

He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephanie Dawkins Davis Wednesday for his initial appearance wearing a mask because he had spit on a law enforcement officer, officials said.

Ftouhi said he understands the charge against him and the allegations that he used a large knife to stab Lt. Jeff Neville, who remains hospitalized today.

The act is being investigated as an act of terror by the FBI, who said Ftouhi yelled "Allahu Akbar," meaning "God is great" in Arabic, pulled out the knife and stabbed Neville in the neck in a public area of the Bishop International Airport.

Ftouhi faces a charge of committing a violent act in an airport, which carries a maximum punishment of 20 years in prison. He is behind bars pending a detention hearing set for June 28 in Flint federal court.

Audio of the brief court hearing was released today.

According to information from hearing, Ftouhi has indicated he has some understanding of English but is mostly fluent in French. He lives in Montreal, doesn’t use drugs or alcohol and last worked about two weeks ago, the court was told.

The Federal Defender Office is representing Ftouhi and David Koelzer, his attorney present at the hearing Wednesday, told the court he read the complaint to Ftouhi in English, and his client also had a written copy.

"He appeared to understand what I was reading and indicated to me that he understood what I was reading to him," Koelzer said.

Ftouhi answered several questioned from the judge in English, including when she asked if he understood he must tell the truth filling out a financial affidavit.

"Yes, I tell the truth," Ftouhi responded.
The Daily Mail adds:
The Canadian man charged with stabbing a police officer at the Flint airport in a possible act of terrorism was a part-time caretaker at the Montreal apartment building where he lived and had once studied to sell insurance, a landlord and an insurance company front man said Thursday.

Amor Ftouhi kept the building stairwells clean and always paid his rent on time, his landlord told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named. The 49-year-old originally from Tunisia lived in a two-bedroom apartment with his wife and children and "never made any trouble," Luciano Piazza said.

The Villeray-St Michel-Parc Extension borough where Ftouhi lived is a large, ethnically diverse Montreal neighborhood, with almost half of its 142,000 residents born outside Canada, according to city figures. Almost 8,000 claim Arabic as their first language.

North African emigrants colonists often choose to settle in the French-speaking province of Quebec, drawn by its immigration policies that favor francophone applicants.

Once in the U.S., he unsuccessfully tried to buy a gun, but instead managed to buy a knife, David Gelios, head of the FBI in bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit
... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang...
said Thursday. He did not elaborate.

Licensed gun dealers first must put purchasers through an electronic background check of U.S. law enforcement databases, which could make Canadians ineligible, said Brady Schickinger, director of the Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners.

Science & Technology
Has China developed the world's most powerful submarine detector?
[SCMP] Chinese scientists claim to have made a major breakthrough in magnetic detection technology that could bring unprecedented accuracy to the process of finding hidden metallic objects ‐ from minerals to submarines.
And in other Chinese S&T news, research dog foregoes BM to finally catch rabbit.
The experts were quoted as saying that the device, which works from the air, could be used to pinpoint the location of minerals buried deep beneath the earth in Inner Mongolia, for example, with a level of precision as high as anything currently available around the world.

The device could also be used on civilian and military aircraft as a "high performance equipment and technical solution to resources mapping, civil engineering, archaeology and national defence", the article said.

China’s military may soon adopt the technology, if it hasn’t already, said Professor Zhang Zhi, an expert in remote sensing with the Institute of Geophysics and Geomatics, China University of Geosciences in Wuhan, Hubei.

"The technology could be used to detect minerals on land, and in the ocean to nail down submarines," said Zhang, who was not involved in the project.

China’s deep-sea mission to mine the wealth beneath the ocean floor:

Anti-submarine aircraft have been equipped with magnetic anomaly detectors, or MAD, since World War II. The devices monitor the small disturbances metallic objects cause to the Earth’s magnetic field, analyse the data and use complex algorithms to calculate the object’s position.

Precise locations are often difficult to obtain, however, because the strength of a magnetic signal drops rapidly as the distance from the source increases.

Aircraft have to fly low, and the submarine has to be operating sufficiently close to surface for the device to register it. The power of the signal can be reduced by other factors, too, such as if the submarine is made from less ferromagnetic materials.

China closes gap with US in hi-tech breakthroughs, KPMG finds:

Dr Lei Chong, an assistant researcher studying MAD technology at the Department of Micro/Nano Electronics, Shanghai Jiaotong University, said the Chinese device was different from conventional designs in at least two ways.

The first is the large number of probes the device uses. With this "array", it can collect much more data than traditional detectors, which tend to use just one antenna, said Lei, who was not involved in the project.

The new MAD also uses a superconductive computer chip cooled by liquid nitrogen. This super-cool environment significantly increases the device’s sensitivity to signals that would be too faint for traditional devices to spot.

Chinese researchers build world’s strongest magnetic field:

"I am surprised they made such an announcement," Lei said. "Usually this kind of information is not revealed to the public because of its military value."

The superconductive MAD array was developed over four years by a research team led by Professor Xie Xiaoming from the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, according to the CAS article.

Xie could not immediately be reached for comment.

Chinese research teams have also recently completed the development of eight other types of magnetic detectors, some of which are small and sensitive enough to be used on satellites, the article said.

The academy said that due to the difficulties involved in developing such equipment, most countries, including the United States, don’t yet have it. Germany is the rare exception, it said.

Despite the article’s claims, Lei said it was too early to say whether China was leading the world in MAD technology.

America’s hidden role in Chinese weapons research:
A euphemism for "they keep stealing our $hit because we're stupid".

#1  Anti-submarine aircraft have been equipped with magnetic anomaly detectors, or MAD, since World War II.

Great for finding sunken iron UFOs, not so good for carbon fiber hulls.

#2  Oh, please, the aircraft has to spend hours crisscrossing large areas to find a submarine and MAD is never used as a first choice detector by itself.

#3  Oh goody, they invented a high strength magnetometer.
"build world’s strongest magnetic field"
So basically, what is needed here is a steel tipped rocket. Self guiding and everything.

U.S. Military: American Airstrike Kills Al-Qaeda Boss in Yemen
[Breitbart] An American military airstrike in Yemen has killed Abu Khattab al-Awlaqi, a “trusted and experienced” emir of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), and two of his colleagues, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced.

Citing a statement from CENTCOM, the Pentagon notes:

Al Awlaqi was a senior leader responsible for planning and conducting terrorist attacks against civilians… He had significant influence throughout al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula’s terrorist stronghold, had ties and access to the group’s other senior leaders, and was implicated in planning and leading efforts to exacerbate instability in southern Yemen… Al Awlaqi’s death removes a trusted and experienced terrorist leader from al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula’s ranks.

The U.S. military killed the AQAP chief on June 16.

CENTCOM reports:

U.S. forces conducted an airstrike against three al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula militants in Shabwah Governorate, Yemen, June 16, to disrupt terrorist compounds, and attack networks in Yemen. Abu Khattab al Awlaqi, the emir for AQAP’s terrorist stronghold in Shabwah Governorate, was killed in the strike along with two of his AQAP associates.

President Donald Trump’s administration has escalated U.S. military efforts against Yemen’s AQAP, considered the most potent al-Qaeda branch that poses the biggest threat to the United States.

U.S. troops, in coordination with the Yemeni government, have been carrying out a series of counterterrorism operations against AQAP to degrade the terrorist group’s ability to hold territory and conduct external terror attacks, according to CENTCOM.

Since Trump took office, the U.S. military has launched an excess of 80 airstrikes against al-Qaeda, more than double the average of those carried out over the past five years, points out Fox News.

The recent airstrike killed the AQAP emir in Yemen’s Shabwah governorate where the jihadist group has established a stronghold that allows it to plot attacks against the United States and its allies across the world.

AQAP has capitalized on the security and political chaos in Yemen to recruit fighters, expand its influence, and capture territory.

Moreover, the Saudi Arabia-led coalition’s nearly single-minded focus to defeat the Iran-allied Shiite Houthis in Yemen has allowed the Sunni AQAP group to flourish.

AQAP claims it receives support from the U.S.-backed Saudi-led Sunni alliance.

The Saudi-led alliance has been fighting in Yemen since March of 2015. AQAP is “building an emirate” in Yemen, Thomas Joscelyn from the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD) told lawmakers in March.

Echoing the claims from the terrorist group, the FDD expert noted that “some of AQAP’s leaders are also partnered with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and [U.S.-backed Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansour] Hadi’s government in the war against the Houthis.”

Russian navy launches missile attacks on ISIS positions
Two Russian Navy warships and a submarine launched six Kalibr cruise missiles on ISIL targets in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said Friday.

“The Russian Navy’s Admiral Essen, Admiral Grigorovich frigates and Krasnodar submarine launched six Kalibr cruise missiles from the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea on ISIL terrorist group targets in Syria,” the ministry said in a statement.

It added that the Krasnodar submarine performed a submerged launch of the cruise missiles.

The Russian Aerospace Forces have destroyed the remaining ISIL positions in Syria following sea launches of six Kalibr cruise missiles, the Russian Defense Ministry said Friday.

“The remaining Daesh (ISIL) terrorist fighters and targets have been destroyed by Russian Aerospace Forces bombers’ airstrikes,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Russian military had informed Turkey and the Zionist entity in advance of Russian Navy Kalibr cruise missile launches on ISIL targets in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

“The commands of Turkey and Israel were informed in a timely manner of the cruise missile launches through channels of interaction,” the ministry said in a statement.

“As a result of a surprise saturation missile attack, Daesh command posts, as well as large ammunition depots, have been destroyed in the vicinity of the town of Akerbat in the province of Hama, where a militant arsenal detonated after a pinpoint hit by the Kalibr cruise missile,” the ministry said in a statement.

#2  U.S.: Russia Gave Heads-Up About Cruise Missile Strike
The prior warning about an attack on Islamic State group targets in Syria indicates a supposedly shuttered deconfliction line is open.
I like pragmatism.

#3  Well, g(rom), when you're shooting in the general direction of strategic antimissile defenses (Israel) that have mere seconds to react to incoming, prior notification will probably help your rockets get to their assigned targets.
And then there's the 'possible response' issue.
The Russians have a long history of pragmatic planning; then also, watching how the monitoring systems react to being 'tickled' is also educational.

Taiz residents break fast to sound of Houthi artillery
Taiz- “Ramadan is not the same anymore. Since the coup of Houthi and Saleh militias against the legitimate government has taken place, we no longer feel the same way about Ramadan Holy month. Instead of hearing the Ramadan cannon at the iftar, we only hear the canons of the militias all the time that daily kill and injure innocent civilians, including women and children,” this is what Taiz resident Abdullah Ahmed Abduh, an employee who works in the public sector, told Asharq Al-Awsat.

“Ramadan is about to end and the militias are still here taking revenge from Taiz residents who reject their coup and from the progress made by the army,” Abduh said.

He pointed out that people in Taiz are happy with the army’s victories and are praising them, but their hearts are broken and are suffering from a harsh humanitarian situation in light of the suspension of the salaries of the employees working in public and private sectors, who can not cheer their children in this holiday.

This comes at a time when the militias escalate their continuous shelling on the neighborhoods of Taiz using various types of weapons from the positions it has taken on the outskirts of the city to commit daily massacres.

“Three civilians were killed and six others were injured in addition to the material losses in the city due to the hysterical shelling on a neighborhood in Taiz,” military sources told Asharq Al-Awsat as they were sitting the latest crimes committed by the militias.

The son of National Army Commander Colonel Yahya al-Rimi was also killed after being hit by shrapnel from a shell fired by the militias.

LNA captures Benghazi sector
The Libyan National Army (LNA) says it has finally taken full control of Benghazi’s central Suq Al-Hout area.

LNA spokesman Colonel Ahmed Mismari told the Libya Herald that the whole area had now been liberated, although it had lost six men in the fighting today, one of them a commander. Elsewhere though, he said there were still some snipers operating in the area, such a by the old city hall, but these were being dealt with.

At a press conference today, the LNA said the militants were hiding in drains and underground tunnels.

This evening, heavy clashes were reported in Al-Sharif Street which separates the old town from Suq Al-Hout.

Meanwhile there have been extensive and heavy bombing raids during the day over Sabri, where LNA units are reported to be advancing from the eastern part which it already controls. The fighting was now near the Wahda Bank, close to the Suq Ahdash area and the unfinished Hyatt Regency hotel on the sea front.

In a separate incident, two LNA soliders, named as Abdussalam Al-Twergi and Akram Al-Warfali, were killed today in a mine explosion in Lathama district which is near Sabri. The area has been liberated for some time.

Afghanistan
Takhar province top Taliban kommander dies
The Taliban militants group has lost one of its most senior leaders during a military operation in northeastern Takhar province, the 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan National Army said Thursday.

According to a statement by the Shaheen Corps, the deputy military commission chief of the group Mawlavi Shukoor was killed during the operations of the Afghan security forces being conducted under the name of Pamir-8.

The statement further added that Mawlavi Shukoor was killed along with his nine companions during the operation.

At least nineteen Taliban insurgents were also wounded during the operations, the statement said, adding that the group’s two senior commanders identified as Mullah Abdul Hadi and Mawlavi Belal were also among those wounded.

The Taliban insurgents group has not commented regarding the report so far.

Takhar is among the relatively calm provinces in northeastern Afghanistan which rarely witnessed insurgency since the fall of the Taliban regime.

However, the insurgent groups have increased their activities in this province during the recent years and often carry out insurgency activities, including coordinated attacks.

The province borders some of the restive provinces in the north from where the insurgents are frequently commuting for the insurgency activities.

Nigerian security forces foil 4 Eid bombing attacks
The Nigerian state security agency announced on Friday that it thwarted plans by militants to detonate explosives in four cities in the north of the country during celebrations to mark the Islamic Eid al-Fitre holiday.

The Department of State Services (DSS) said the attacks were planned in Kano, Sokoto, Kaduna and Maiduguri during the June 26and 27 public holidays to celebrate Eid, which marks the end of Islam’s holy month of Ramadan.

Maiduguri and surrounding parts of the northeastern Borno state have been attacked by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in the last few weeks including suicide bombings that killed 12 people on Monday and a raid on June 7 which killed 14.

The DSS said since Tuesday it had arrested three suspects – two in the northwestern city of Sokoto and another in Kano in the north – and seized weapons including eight assault rifles, 27 hand grenades and live ammunition.

“Their aim was to hit on soft targets such as markets, public parks, public processions, recreation centres, as well as worship centers especially the Eid praying grounds and other densely populated areas,” it said in a statement.

The DSS did not specify who it thought was behind the plans. Boko Haram has killed more than 20,000 people and forced some 2.7 million people to flee their homes in the last eight years in its attempt to create a state adhering to a strict interpretation of sharia law in northeast Nigeria.

In April, the DSS said it had thwarted Boko Haram plans to attack the British and United States embassies in the capital Abuja.

9 die in suicide bombing attacks in Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) One Iraqi soldier and eight civilians were killed when an Islamic State suicide bomber blew himself up west of Anbar, a military source was quoted saying in a press statement.

Col. Walid al-Dulaimi said that four suicide bombers snuck into al-Shohadaa region in al-Baghdadi, west of Anbar. Security forces shot three dead after trapping them at a house. But the fourth blew himself up, killing eight civilians and one army member.

The blast wounded 11 other people, including eight soldiers.

Baghdadi is currently under the control of security forces and allied paramilitary troops. IS members have regularly infiltrated the area to wage attacks against civilians and security forces.

Anbar’s western towns of Annah, Qaim and Rawa have been held by the extremist group since 2014, when it emerged to proclaim a self-styled Islamic “Caliphate”.

Fighter jets from the Iraqi army and the U.S.-led international coalition have also regularly pounded IS locations in the province. The Iraqi government is expected to aim at those strongholds once its campaign in Mosul, now in its eighth month, is concluded.

Violence and armed conflicts left 824 Iraqis dead and wounded during the month of May, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq which excludes security members deaths

[DAWN] A traffic police official was run over and killed in Quetta's GPO Chowk area earlier this week allegedly by a vehicle belonging to a serving politician, police said Friday.

Lal Masjid's Shuhada Foundation barred from organising political, religious activities
[DAWN] The federal capital's administration on Friday imposed a ban on all political and religious activities by Lal Masjid
...literally the Red Mosque, located in Islamabad and frequented by all sorts of high govt officials. The proprietors, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi, unleashed their Islamic storm troopers on the city, shutting down whorehouses and beating people up who weren't devout enough. The Musharraf govt put an end to the nonsense by besieging the place. Abdul Aziz Ghazi was nabbed while he was trying to escape dressed up like a girl. BBC reported that the corpse count at 173, but other claims, usually hysterical, say there were up to 1000 titzup. Among their number was Abdul Rashid Ghazi. Everyone then said tut-tut and what a nice guy he had been...
's Shuhada Foundation, declaring it an "unregistered entity".

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad had received an application for a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Shuhada Foundation for a ceremony to be held in remembrance of the 'deaders' of the military crackdown on Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa
... the Islamic nunnery maintained by Lal Masjid....
on July 7.

Responding to the request, the DC Islamabad's office released a notification rejecting not only the said application, but also disallowing the foundation from conducting any political or religious activities owing to it not being registered with any state entity.

The notification, signed by an additional district magistrate, has warned the foundation against violating the order, which could lead to "strict legal action".

Lal Masjid is registered with Auqaf and is therefore allowed only worship-related activities, the notification stated.

Rejecting the notification, the Shuhada Foundation said that it will go on with the event as planned, insisting that the foundation was a registered entity.

It also accused the government of "deceiving the public" on the matter. It, however, did not comment on which entity the foundation was registered with.

40 people killed in bomb, gun attacks in 3 Pakistani cities
[Ynet] At least 40 people were killed and nearly 100 maimed Friday in four separate bomb and gun attacks in three major Pak cities, officials said.
No doubt Dawn will have all the details tomorrow.
A jacket wallah was involved in the first boom-mobileing near the office of the provincial police chief in the southwestern city of Quetta that killed at least 12 people and maimed 20. There were conflicting claims of responsibility for this attack from different bully boy groups.

Hours later twin bombings, minutes apart, hit a crowded market in a Shiite-dominated city in Parachinar, the main city in the Kurram tribal region and killed 24 people, mostly minority Shiite Moslems, according to government administrator Zahid Hussain.

Friday evening, gunnies in the port city of Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
attacked coppers at a roadside restaurant and killed four of them before fleeing, according to senior police officer Asif Ahmed.

The bomb and gun attacks come a few days before the Moslem holiday of Eid-al-Fitr, which ends the holy month of Ramadan. TV footage showed panicked people rushing to safety following the Parachinar market bombings.

The Secret Lives of ISIS Fighters
[BBC] Warning: Disturbing content
Note: very long, lots of photos and things in Arabic for those who read Arabic.
Mohammed is giddy with excitement as he films the discovery of three IS fighters on his mobile phone.

"Shoot him," he shouts, gesturing at one of them.

His nervousness gives him away as the unit’s cook. He’s unarmed, but his fellow soldiers from the Iraqi police special forces - known as the Emergency Response Division - are armed to the teeth and are not taking any chances.

The ISIS fighter in the foto is holding a scoped Czech vz-52 with the proprietary 10 rnd magazine removed. It is likely a Model 52/57 which would have been re-chambered from the original 7.62x45 to the more common 7.62x39. The modern scope employs a left side'offset' mount as the weapon's extractor throws the empty casing forward, which is somewhat unique. Not a weapon commonly seen on the modern battlefield.

Illinois: Madigan dupes another governor
[IllinoisPolicy.org] House Speaker Mike Madigan doesn’t care much for manifestos.

When questioned over the years on his policy positions, Madigan usually resorts to bromides about how he supports the Democratic Party and its fight on behalf of the middle class. (Please disregard the utter collapse of Illinois’ middle class under his reign.)

Because of Madigan’s distaste for policy principles, an observer of his more than 40 years in state government will find the speaker has taken a number of contradictory stances on a variety of issues. What do those positions have in common? Pursuit of political power.

Jihadist who threw grenade in French kosher shop gets 28 years
[Ynet] The French jihadist who perpetrated the 2012 attack in Sarcelles, injuring one, is to serve 28 years behind bars; prosecution describes decision as 'a miracle'.

A French jihadist who threw a grenade at a Jewish store in 2012
...that would be the Naouri kosher supermarket...
was sentenced overnight to 28 years in prison by a court which also sent several others to jail after the dismantling of an Islamist cell which had planned other attacks.
When its members were arrested in late 2012, the "Cannes-Torcy cell" was described as the most dangerous jihadist group in France.
In addition to grenade-thrower Jeremy Bailly, the jury court sentenced eight others to prison for between 12 and 20 years, with the lengthier terms handed to two men who spent time in Syria, where the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
bad boy group has its base.

The convictions in a late night ruling on Thursday brought a close to an affair that predated the spate of Islamist-inspired attacks in La Belle France from early 2015 onwards, in which more than 230 people have been killed.
France was at the time roiled by protests against Israel and naturally also attacks on local Jews and Jewish institutions.
Another member of the jihadist cell--Jeremie Louis-Sidney--died in a shootout with police when they tried to arrest him in the eastern French city of Strasbourg in October 2012.

The grenade-attack at a Jewish food store in Sarcelles

north of Gay Paree the same year injured one person but killed nobody, an outcome prosecutors described as "a miracle".

The dismantling of the cell allowed police to thwart another attack planned against an army camp in the Var area of southern La Belle France in 2013, prosecutors said.

They added that the cell, half of whose members were converts to Islam who bonded on a camping holiday in Cannes, southern La Belle France, had also planned but not executed an attack on a McDonald's fast-food restaurant.

In all, the trial concerned 20 people. Two were acquitted. Among others sentenced was a 23-year-old Laotian man who was judged as the driver of the car from which Bailly hurled the grenade. He was enjugged
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
for 18 years.

Among others sentenced but not present in court were a man who joined the Islamic State bad boy group in Syria and thought to have possibly died there, and another on the run in Africa.
The Times of Israel adds:
Analysts say the Cannes-Torcy network signaled a historic shift in La Belle France’s struggle against terrorism, to battling mass attacks by Islamic faceless myrmidons inspired, or even guided, by foreigners.

in 2012 -- and the Islamic State network that hit the Bataclan concert hall in 2015, killing 130 people.

The prosecution demanded "exemplary punishments" for the cell, headed by Jeremie Louis-Sidney and described as a violent leader with a "boiling" hatred for Jews.

Kevin Phan, the group’s driver during the attack, was sentenced to 18 years in jail.

Sentences of 14 to 20 years’ imprisonment were given to gang members who had traveled to Syria, including Ibrahim Boudina, who spent sixteen months in Syria and was accused of "returning to commit an attack" on the Cote d’Azur.

Lawyers said the court had noted the diverse profiles of the twenty men, some of whom were from well-to-do families, and came from Algeria, Laos and La Belle France. Half were converts to Islam.

Arabia
Arab states send Qatar 13 demands to end crisis
[DAWN] Four Arab states boycotting Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
over alleged support for terrorism have sent Doha a list of 13 demands including closing Al Jazeera television and reducing ties to their regional adversary Iran, an official of one of the four countries said.

The demands aimed at ending the worst Gulf Arab crisis in years appear designed to quash a two decade-old foreign policy in which Qatar has punched well above its weight, striding the stage as a peace broker, often in conflicts in Moslem lands.

Doha's independent-minded approach, including a dovish line on Iran and support for Islamist groups, in particular the Moslem Brüderbund, has incensed some of its neighbours who see political Islamism as a threat to their dynastic rule.

The list, compiled by Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt and Bahrain, which cut economic, diplomatic and travel ties to Doha on June 5, also demands the closing of a Turkish military base in Qatar, the official told Rooters.

Qatar must also announce it is severing ties with terrorist, ideological and sectarian organizations including the Moslem Brüderbund, the murderous Moslem Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group, al Qaeda, Hezbollah, and Jabhat Fateh al Sham, formerly al Qaeda's branch in Syria, he said, and surrender all designated holy warriors on its territory.

Qatar won't negotiate under boycott
The four Arab countries accuse Qatar of funding terrorism, fomenting regional instability and cozying up to revolutionary theocracy Iran. Qatar has denied the accusations.

Qatari officials did not reply immediately to requests for comment. But on Monday, Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said Qatar would not negotiate with the four states unless they lifted their measures against Doha.

The countries give Doha 10 days to comply, failing which the list becomes "void", the official said without elaborating, suggesting the offer to end the dispute in return for the 13 steps would no longer be on the table.

Twin blasts kill dozens in Parachinar market
[Al Jazeera] At least 34 people have been killed and more than 70 maimed when twin kabooms destroyed a crowded market in northwest Pakistain, according to officials.

The kabooms, minutes apart, took place at Toori Bazar in the town of Parachinar, capital of Kurram tribal district

, during rush hour on Friday afternoon.

"When people rushed to the site ... to rescue the maimed, a second blast took place," Nasrullah Khan told the AFP news agency.

"We fear that the corpse count will increase," Khan said, adding that no further details were available yet.

Al Jazeera's Kamal Hyder, reporting from the capital, Islamabad, said a state of emergency had been declared in Parachinar.

"The military sent two helicopters from Beautiful Downtown Peshawar

Turkey dismisses demand to close Qatar military base
[Al Jazeera] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

has rejected a call from four Arab countries to shut down its military base in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
, saying the base was a guarantor of security in the Gulf and demands for its closure represented interference in its ties with Doha.

Defence Minister Fikri Isik told Turkish broadcaster NTV that he had not yet seen a request for the closure of the base, but made clear his country had no plans to review a 2014 agreement with Qatar which led to it being set up.

His reaction comes after Soddy Arabia

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and other Arab countries, boycotting Qatar over alleged support for "terrorism", reportedly issued a list of demands including closing down the military installation.

"If there is such a demand, it will mean interference in bilateral ties," Isik said in an interview on Friday.

"The base in Qatar is both a Turkish base and one that will preserve the security of Qatar and the region.

"It is an important military base and no country should be disturbed by it."

Five armoured vehicles and 23 military personnel arrived in Doha on Thursday in a deployment that Turkey's armed forces said was part of a military training and cooperation deal.

Some 88 Turkish soldiers were already in Qatar, according to the Hurriyet newspaper.

The newspaper said a joint exercise by Turkish and Qatari forces was expected following the Islamic Eid al-Fitr holiday which starts on Sunday and the number of Turkish soldiers sent to the Gulf state could eventually reach 1,000.

3 ISIS Turbans die of food poisoning in Hawija

Hawija (IraqiNews.com) Three Islamic State members have died of a poisoned meal in the group’s stronghold of Hawija, southwest Kirkuk, a security source said Friday.

The trio died at a checkpoint run by the group when they were offered a meal by unknown individuals, but the food was apparently poisoned, according to the source.

Islamic State fighters were deployed immediately in the streets of Hawija in search for the plotters.

Islamic State militants, who adopt an extreme version of Islam, have regularly sentenced violators of their religious directives to harsh sentences that could mount to death in many cases. Their government style forced thousands to flee the town.

Islamic State militants have been in control over Hawija and a few other surrounding regions since 2014, when they proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” spanning a third of Iraq and Syria.

Local tribal leaders and politicians from Kirkuk have mounted pressure on the Iraqi government to hasten with invading Hawija, suggesting that its people were experiencing a humanitarian crisis under the group’s rule. The Iraqi government is currently employing the largest portion of its military effort in Mosul, IS’s previously=proclaimed capital in Iraq where the group is reportedly cornered in a few square kilometers.

12 die in suicide attack in Mosul

IRAQ: A suicide bomber blew himself up on Friday among civilians fleeing Mosul’s Old City, where Iraqi forces are gaining ground against jihadists mounting a fierce but desperate defense, officers said.

Ahmed Hashem, a major and medic in the Iraqi army speaking to AFP from a field hospital, said the attack took place in the Mashahda neighborhood of the Old City.

“We received 12 people killed and more than 20 wounded in our field hospital, including women and children,” he said.

A colonel in the army’s 16th infantry division said it was difficult to get a definitive casualty toll because the area where the attack happened was not fully cleared.

“The suicide bomber infiltrated a group of displaced people and blew himself up among them before reaching our troops,” he said.

Thousands of civilians have fled the Old City of Mosul since Iraqi forces launched their most perilous assault yet against the Daesh group.

Around 100,000 more remain trapped by the jihadists, who have made human shields a key element in their defense of the Old City, their last redoubt in Iraq’s second city.

The security forces have been wary of Iraqi Daesh members attempting to flee the Old City death trap by blending in with the population, while the Chechen, French and other foreign jihadists stay behind to mount a suicidal last stand.

Kurd Kommies kill 20 Turkish soldiers
[ARA News] Rebel fighters of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) attacked a convoy of the Turkish Army in the southeastern Hakkari province, military sources reported on Thursday.

At least 20 Turkish soldiers were killed and several others were wounded in the attack, where the PKK used mortar fire and heavy machine guns.

“Our fighters ambushed the Turkish army on the road of Cile Çola Mirek in Hakkari province,” a PKK spokesman told ARA News.

“The operation resulted in the death of more than 20 soldiers, the injury of dozens more, and the destruction of three military vehicles,” the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

He said that the PKK-led operation came in response to the recent Turkish bombardment of Kurdish villages in Hakkari.

“We won’t remain calm while Turkey destroys our villages and kills our people,” the PKK spokesman told ARA News.

Since the break down of the two-and-a-half-year ceasefire between Turkey and the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in July 2015, clashes intensified between both sides, causing the death of thousands of civilians, the displacement of more than 400,000 people and massive urban destruction in some south-eastern districts populated by Kurds.

Afghanistan
Taliban shadow officials security detail guns him down
The shadow district governor of the Taliban group was shot dead by one his own guards in northern Jawzjan province of Afghanistan.

According to the local government officials, the incident took place on Thursday in the relatively volatile district of Darzab.

Provincial security chief Abdul Hafiz Khashi confirmed the incident and said at least five other militants were also killed in the attack.

He said the attacker has apparently joined the ISIS ranks in Jawzjan province after killing the shadow district chief of the Taliban.

The Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.

The security situation in Jawzjan province has started to deteriorate during the recent years with the rampant insurgency led both the Taliban and ISIS militants.

The latest attack on Taliban district chief by his guard having links with the ISIS group reflects the ongoing rivalry among the militants which has so far claimed the lives of scores of insurgents while dozens more have been wounded.

Mysterious Sea Pickles Invading West Coast In Bizarre Bloom
[NEWSWEEK] Mysterious creatures called sea pickles are showing up in large numbers on the West Coast. These organisms are actually conglomerations of zooids—small, multicellular organisms—which come together into tubular shapes that in this case stretch from about 6 inches to 2 feet long, according to EarthFix, an offshoot of Oregon Public Broadcasting.

Normally these animals, also known as pyrosomes, are found in tropical waters, and they also are bioluminescent, meaning they produce light. (Pyrosome is derived from the Greek pyro for “fire” and soma for “body.”) Not very well-studied, they can stretch up to 60 feet long, and look something like a living wind sock.

But this spring they began appearing in the eastern Pacific, from Oregon to Alaska, in quantities never before seen—numbers so large that they’ve led fishermen to abandon fishing in certain areas. One researcher pulled up 60,000 of them in 5 minutes using a net, National Geographic reports.

Iraq
50 casualties reports in Mosul airstrike

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) At least 50 civilians were killed and wounded when a missile fell on a marketplace in western Mosul, news reports said Friday.

Alnoor News website, quoting a medical source at Mosul’s public hospital, said the missile hit a market in Mosul al-Jadida, leaving 10 dead and 40 wounded.

No official statement has been made yet regarding the reported incident.

Mosul al-Jadida had previously been the stage for civilian massacres in March, when airstrikes left more than 200 civilians dead. The United States had admitted its warplanes had killed 105 in the strike.

Meanwhile, Cap. Jabbar Hassan, from the Iraqi Federal Police service, told Anadolu Agency that forces managed on Friday to rescue more than 200 civilians who had been trapped inside five booby-trapped houses in Bab al-Beed neighborhood in the Old City. He said the rescue came after intense encounters with IS militants whom, he said, used the civilians as human shields.

Iraqi troops have advanced closer to the Old City’s Grand Nuri al-Kabir Mosque, where Islamic State’s supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared the establishment of the group’s rule in 2014. IS members blew up the mosque’s ancient minaret on Wednesday as troops advanced, a move which the Iraqi command said signalled an imminent defeat to the extremist group.

A few hundred militants are thought to remain inside the Old City, but are holding at least 100.000 civilians who are shot dead or caught and executed while trying to flee the neighborhood.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said in statements on Thursday that Mosul would be declared Islamic State-free within a few days.

Iraqi forces continue their advance in Mosul

MOSUL/ERBIL: Iraqi forces battled their way along two streets that meet in the heart of Mosul’s Old City on Friday and said they aimed to open routes for civilians to flee Daesh’s last stand there.

US-trained urban warfare units are leading the fight in the maze of narrow alleyways of the Old City, the last district in the hands of the insurgents.

Iraqi authorities are hoping to declare victory in the northern Iraqi city in the Eid holiday, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, during the next few days.

Military analysts say the government troops’ advance will gather pace after Daesh militants blew up the 850-year-old Al-Nuri mosque and its famous leaning minaret on Wednesday.

Its destruction gives the troops more freedom in attack, as they no longer have to worry about damaging the ancient site.

A US-led international coalition is providing air and ground support in the 8-month-old offensive to drive the militants from their de facto capital in Iraq.

A map published by the Iraqi forces media office showed the elite Counter Terrorism Service pushing along Al-Faruq Street, from north to south, and Nineveh Street, from east to west.

The two roads cross in the center of the Old City. When the troops reach this point, they will have isolated the remaining Daesh militants in four separate pockets.

“The aim is to open ways for civilians to evacuate; we give them indications by lousdspeaker when it’s possible,” an Iraqi military spokesman told Reuters by phone.

At least 7,000 civilians were brought out of the Old City during the day, the Iraqi state news website said.

Reuters journalists in Mosul saw people reaching safety. Some were injured, and some had been carried on army Humvees to rear positions where they were given bananas, biscuits and water.

“The army’s 16th division evacuated us,” said a man who had fled with his wife and 15-day-old baby.

“God bless them,” said another man, who was limping.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) reported an influx of wounded people to its trauma clinic in the west of the war-torn city on Friday morning.

“This ... is yet another example of the horrific suffering and indiscriminate violence suffered by civilians, including women and children,” said Jonathan Henry, MSF Emergency Coordinator for West Mosul, in a statement.

More than 100,000 civilians, of whom half are children, are trapped in the crumbling old houses of Old City, with little food, water or medical treatment.

Aid organizations say Daesh has stopped many from leaving, using them as human shields. Hundreds of civilians fleeing the Old City have been killed in the past three weeks.

Rubble of ‘The Hunchback’

The Iraqi government once hoped to take Mosul by the end of 2016, but the bloody campaign has dragged on as the militants reinforced positions in civilian areas, launched suicide car and motorbike bombs, laid booby traps and kept up barrages of sniper and mortar fire.
The military said it had defused dozens of booby traps as troops advanced on Friday.

The area still under Daesh control is about 2 sq. km in extent, alongside the western bank of the Tigris river which bisects Mosul.

The fall of Mosul would mark the end of the Iraqi half of the militants’ state structure, but Daesh would remain in control of large areas of both Iraq and Syria.

Daesh posted a video online showing the remaining square base of the mosque’s leaning minaret amid a mountain of rubble, with wrecked cars nearby.

The destruction caused anger and grief for Mosul’s people, who affectionately call the tower Al-Hadba, or “the hunchback.”

Daesh’s black flag had been flying on the 150-foot minaret since June 2014. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi said the militants’ decision to blow it up was an admission of defeat.

Al-Baghdadi has left the fighting in Mosul to local commanders and has been assumed to be hiding in the Iraqi-Syrian border area. There has been no confirmation of Russian reports over the past week that he has been killed.

In Syria, the insurgents’ “capital,” Raqqa, is nearly encircled by a US-backed Kurdish-led coalition.

Unveiling clock showing 8,411 days left for Israel, Iranians rage against Jewish state
[IsraelTimes] Parliament speaker calls Israel ’mother of terrorism’ as Islamic Theocratic Republic parades missiles, rallies in support of Paleostinians and against raft of enemies.

Iran held major anti-Israel rallies across the country Friday, with protesters chanting "Death to Israel" and declaring that destroying the Jewish state is "the Moslem world’s top priority.

Iranians participating in Quds Day rallies also called for unity among pro-Paleostinian groups against the "child-murdering" Israeli government, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.

Marchers in Tehran headed from various points of the city to the Friday prayer ceremony at Tehran University. Similar demonstrations were held in other cities and towns in Iran.

Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard used the demonstration in the capital’s Valiasr Square to showcase three surface-to-surface ballistic missiles, including the Zolfaghar -- the type that Iran used this week to target the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group in Syria. The Guard said it fired six such missiles on Sunday at IS targets in the city of Deir el-Zour, more than 600 kilometers (370 miles) away. The Guard said the Arclight airstrike was in retaliation for an IS attack earlier in June on Iran’s parliament and a shrine in Tehran that killed 18 people and maimed more than 50.

Another missile on display at the Tehran rally was the Ghadr, with a range of 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles) that can reach both Israel and US bases in the region.

Iran’s ballistic missile program has been the subject of persistent concern in Washington and the target of repeated US sanctions.

In 2015, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei predicted that after 25 years — by 2040 — there will no longer be a State of Israel.
Iran claimed its missile strike on Sunday killed 360 Islamic State fighters. Israeli sources, by contrast, said the strike was a "flop," that most of the six or seven missiles missed their targets, and that three of them fell to earth in Iraq and didn’t even reach Syria.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, in remarks carried by the official IRNA news agency, said Israel supports "bandidos murderous Moslems in the region."

Parliament speaker Ali Larijani, in a speech to Tehran demonstrators, called Israel the "mother of terrorism" and said that in the "20th century, there was no event more ominous than establishing the Zionist regime."

The rally also inaugurated a huge digital countdown display at Tehran Paleostine Square, showing that Israel will allegedly cease to exist in 8,411 days.

In 2015, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei predicted that after 25 years -- by 2040 -- there will no longer be a State of Israel.

"Death to the House of Saud and ISIS," demonstrators chanted, using another name for the Islamic State. "Death to America", "Death to Israel", "Death to the UK."

State media put the number of participants at over 1 million.
...counted by the classic one, two, many method, so we know it is true...
The anti-Israel rallies are an annual event marking al-Quds Day, a historic Arabic name for Jerusalem. Iran says it’s an occasion to express support for the Paleostinians and emphasize the importance of Jerusalem for Moslems.

Iran doesn’t recognize Israel, calls for its demise, and staunchly backs terror groups, including Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", and Hezbollah.

Iran holds al-Quds day rallies held each year on the last Friday of the Moslem holy month of Ramadan, which is expected to end this weekend. Iran has marked the day since the start of its 1979 Islamic Revolution, when it cut relations with Israel.

On Sunday, marchers in the annual Quds Day parade in London blamed a fire in a low-income apartment complex there that left at least 58 dead on "Zionists."

ISIS bag man dies in Deir Ezzor airstikes
[ARA News] The US-led coalition confirmed on Friday that an airstrike on al-Bukamal (Abu-Kamal) town in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor province led to the death of a key ISIS financial facilitator, June 16, in the first US action to specifically target ISIS-affiliated money-services business.

Fawaz Muhammad Jubayr al-Rawi, a Syrian native and an experienced terrorist financial facilitator, moved millions of dollars for the terror organization’s attack and logistics network, according to the coalition.

He owned the Hanifa Currency Exchange in Abu-Kamal, which he used along with a network of global financial contacts to move money into and out of ISIS-controlled territory and across borders on behalf of the group.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury, pursuant to U.S. Executive Order 13224, which targets terrorists and those providing support to terrorists or acts of terrorism, imposed sanctions on al-Rawi and his company, Hanifa Currency Exchange’s branch in Abu-Kamal, Dec. 13, 2016.

The U.S. Department of Treasury designated al-Rawi for providing financial and material support to ISIS.

Al-Rawi pledged loyalty to ISIS in 2014 and used his network of global financial contacts to help ISIS conduct weapons and ammunition deals at a time when the terrorist group was seizing land and committing atrocities across Syria and Iraq.

“In 2015, he facilitated ISIS financial transactions and money storage, including payments to ISIS foreign terrorist fighters; his property was also used by senior ISIS leaders for weekly meetings. As of May 2016, he was considered an ISIS finance emir, whose money exchange business was used for ISIS-related transactions,” the coalition added.

In the past, several of al-Rawi’s close terrorist associates have also been targeted and killed by the Coalition, such as Samir Idris, a key ISIS financial facilitator for external terror attacks and an international money launderer, was killed June 7, 2017, near Mayadin, Syria.

“He was trusted by senior ISIS leadership to move funds across borders to pay for external terror attacks,” the coalition said.

Furthermore, the US-led coalition killed Abdurakhmon Uzbeki, a foreign fighter and external terror attack facilitator, was killed April 6, 2017, near Mayadin, Syria. He was a close associate of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and helped facilitate the high profile attack which murdered 39 people on New Year’s Eve at the Reina night club in Istanbul.

In addition, Abd al-Basit al-Iraqi, a senior external terror attack facilitator, was killed Nov. 12, 2016, in Raqqa, Syria.

“He was responsible for attacks across the Middle East, including against American, Turkish, and other European targets of interest, and was also involved in assassination plots, hostage situations, convoy reconnaissance, and helped arm, fund and move terrorist fighters,” the coalition said.

A couple of videos out by two different tactical companies, Max Velocity and Polenar Tactical, show two different tactics sets based on terrain. The first demonstration is based on a foot patrol encountering an armed enemy and how it reacts to contact.

The second video is a room clearing training video, basically close quarters combat in a built up area. Both have their uses for groups, but do not offer much about how to counter a shooter when you are the only one with a rifle.

The first video is applicable to the shootout in Virginia. The security detail was armed with pistols, but since the FBI is in charge of the investigation we will never know the details.

For as little as we do know about what happened, we do, or at least should know our political enemies are arming up and having murder put in their hearts by Hollywood and others. Both videos then show just exactly how you should react in a sudden firefight with an armed and hostile enemy.

Make no mistake, those bastards are coming hard for you and the politicians you elected. They are coming in a tactical sense and they will come for firearms, enlisting the unrestrained power of government, including the federal government to do so. Their hate for you, like their love for government, knows no limits and therefore their target list is not limited.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Pistol ammunition prices were mostly steady. Rifle ammunition prices were mixed.

Prices for used pistols were mixed. Prices for used rifles were mixed.

#3  Regarding Patrols: In WWII the US Army Cavalry in the South Pacific had a primary patrol and a corresponding backup. Immediately upon contact with an opposing Japanese small unit the patrol simply kept the enemy focused on them and just tried to stay alive while the backup moved in on the opposing unit. The small Japanese unit was then annihilated. The cavalry took no prisoners. This was a standard military tactic for all patrols.

#6  Hope those guys didn't pay too much for that live-action training.

Tactical trainers charge between $250 and $500 per day, depending on location and what is being taught.

Right now the Israeli tactical training firm Cherev Gidon has a nice special going in Penn, a 7 day camp which attempts to familiarize those without any military experience with weapons and tactics, including intelligence gathering.

I'd go for it but for the lack of time off and the expense.

#7  Clearing the room video shows the first guy approaching the room with the sequential wedge view technique, but he does not seem to follow through enough, as he leaves a wedge unchecked at the end when he enters, and he could get killed. The perp would also die with the next guy entering the room and killing him.

From the limited training I had in room clearing, you do not do that unless you are rescuing a loved one. That is why cops use dogs in this operation if they can.

4 policemen gunned down in Karachi's SITE area during iftar
[DAWN] Four coppers were bumped off in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
's SITE area on Friday in what appeared to be an incident of murder, officials told Dawn.

SITE Station House Officer (SHO) Rana Maqsood said the coppers were having iftar at a hotel located between Siemens Chowk and Habib Bank Chowrangi when three unidentified persons on two cycle of violences opened fire on them.

The coppers ─ Assitant Sub-Inspector Muhammad Yousuf, and police constables Shabir, Khalid and Israr ─ was struck down in his prime while the suspects managed to escape.

Maqsood initially claimed that the assailants belonged to a "defunct terrorist organization".

However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) official Raja Umer Khattab told Dawn that a new krazed killer organization called the Jamaat-ul-Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...
Pakistain had grabbed credit for the attack on the coppers in pamphlets dropped at the site of the shooting.

Members of the krazed killer outfit had doubled back to the scene of the crime after the attack and dropped pamphlets claiming responsibility for the attack, Khattab said.

Khattab said that the krazed killer organization was "newly established" and had previously grabbed credit for the murder of a retired army officer in Karachi.

Arabia
Saudi security forces foil attack on Grand Mosque in Mecca
[REUTERS] Saudi security forces foiled an attack on the Grand Mosque in the Muslim holy city of Mecca on Friday, state television Al-Ekhbariya and Al Arabiya TV reported.

Al Arabiya said security forces had found two groups of terrorists in Mecca and a third group in the city of Jeddah. The foiled attack targetted worshipers at the mosque, it said.

Neither Al Arabiya nor Al-Ekhbariya gave any further details.
An Nahar adds:
The first operation was foiled in Mecca's Assila district, while the second was thwarted in Ajyad al-Masafi neighborhood.

A jacket wallah, who was hiding in a house in the Ajyad neighborhood, opened fire on security forces and refused to comply with calls to turn himself in. He later went kaboom! after being encircled, wounding six foreign residents and five members of the security forces, the security spokesperson said.

Security forces tossed in the slammer

Moderate Islamic teacher gunned down in Thai south
The murder of a respected Islamic teacher in Pattani province on Tuesday night was an act of terrorist behavior, the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) said Wednesday. Awae Tohsatu had contributed greatly to the restoration of peace in the far South and his death is greatly lamented, said Col Pramote Phrom-in in his capacity as ISOC spokesman.

Awae, a teacher at Ponoh Padaela-nga School, was gunned down about 9:30pm as he left a mosque with his family after prayers in Nong Chik district. Police said they will look into what may have prompted the killing as the victim had a number of important roles in education, religion and peace-building.

Pramote said the teacher was a key figure in local religious circles who adhered to the tenets of Islam and helped the government create better understanding with local people as well as convincing insurgents to defect. Awae had also served as a justice adviser to ISOC's southern command since 2007, and declared himself against all forms of insurgent violence, the spokesman said. The teacher's murder was an act of "extreme, dictatorial and terrorist behavior", he added.

According to the victim's wife, she and Awae were heading home from prayers with their son when the attack took place. The family lived in the school compound about 30 meters from the mosque.

#2  Wikipedia explains how the Paleos screwed what economy they had.

For 30 years, Israel permitted thousands of Palestinians to enter the country each day to work in construction, agriculture and other blue-collar jobs. Until the mid-1990s, up to 150,000 people—about a fifth of the Palestinian labor force—entered Israel each day. After Palestinians unleashed a wave of suicide bombings, the idea of separation from the Palestinians took root in Israel. Israel found itself starved for labor, and gradually replaced most of the Palestinians with migrants from Thailand, Romania and elsewhere.

8-year-old girl kidnapped, raped in Karachi
[DAWN] An eight-year-old girl was kidnapped from Bloody Karachi

's Landhi area and raped before being dumped in Surjani Town in an unconscious condition, local police said Friday.

Orangi Town's Superintendent of Police (SP) Abid Ali Baloch told Dawn that the girl had been recovered from Surjani Town on Thursday night.

Initially, she was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a medical checkup, where a lady doctor allegedly refused to examine her, saying she did not want to appear before the court as a witness, the police official revealed.

Subsequently, the girl was taken to the Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where doctors confirmed that she had been raped.

The girl told police that she was a resident of the Future Colony in Landhi. The officer said that a message was sent on the police control to locate her family.

On Friday afternoon, a man approached the police and was taken to JPMC ─ where the girl was being treated ─ and identified her as his daughter.

The father told the police that his daughter was playing outside her home in Future Colony, Landhi, on Thursday at around 5:00pm when she went missing.

Russia 'near 100 per cent' certain of Baghdadi's death
[DAWN] The likelihood that the leader of the turban Islamic State

, has been killed is "close to 100 per cent", Interfax news agency quoted Viktor Ozerov, the head of the defence committee in the Russian upper house of parliament, as saying on Friday.

"I think this information is close to 100pc," the agency quoted Ozerov as saying. "The fact that Islamic State has still not shown him anywhere also adds to our confidence that al-Baghdadi has been killed."

Earlier, the Russian army had said it 'may have killed' Baghdadi in a 10-minute strike early on May 28 at a location near Raqqa, where IS leaders had gathered to plan a pullout by hard boyz from the group’s stronghold.

"Senior commanders of the military groups of the so-called IS military council, 30 mid-ranking field commanders and up to 300 hard boyz who provided security for them were eliminated," it said.

"According to information which is being checked through various channels, the leader of IS Ibrahim Abu-Bakr al-Baghdadi was also present at the meeting and was eliminated by the strike," it said.

Three Hindoo sisters abducted from Mirpurkhas recovered by police
[DAWN] Three sisters belonging to the Hindu community, who were allegedly kidnapped in Tando Jan Mohammad of Mirpurkhas two nights ago, were recovered by police on Friday.

Sixteen-year-old Vijanti Mala, 15-year old Shelta and their 7-year-old sister, Priya, were allegedly kidnapped by influential people belonging to the same area, police said.

Gulji Meghwar, the girls' father, had registered a report of their alleged abduction with SHO Tando Jan Mohammad, Ayaz Bhatti.

A police official told Dawn that the girls will be produced before a judge in Digri town, adding that an investigation into the matter was underway.

He added that police had conducted raids and made some arrests in connection to the case.

The DSP added that an FIR would be registered upon the orders of the court.

Talking to Dawn, Advocate Kashif Bajeer, the regional head of the Society for Protection of Rights of Children, condemned the incident in strong words.

The advocate demanded that the Sindh government put laws in place to protect the children, especially from the Hindu community, from repeated incidents of forced conversion and subsequent marriage.

Bajeer also demanded the early arrest of all involved in the "ghastly act".

[DAWN] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Thursday sent a first ship loaded with aid for its embattled regional ally Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, state media said. Almost two dozen Turkish troops also arrived in Qatar as Ankara ramps up military support for Doha, even as it tries not to irritate Riyadh.

Turkey has already sent over 100 planes with food and other aid for Qatar, but this is the first time a fat merchantman has embarked on the voyage to Doha. The ship left the Aegean port of Aliaga in Izmir province with around 4,000 tonnes of fruit, vegetables and other foodstuffs on board, the Anadolu news agency said. It should arrive in 10 days.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain broke off relations with Qatar on June 5, accusing it of supporting "terrorism" and leaving Doha economically and politically isolated.

Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci said on Wednesday that Turkey had already sent 105 cargo flights to Qatar loaded with aid to help the country through the crisis.

A bill was also fast-tracked through the Turkish parliament this month allowing Ankara to send up to several thousand troops to a base in Qatar.

#3  Almost. MB and Salafis -- by whom I take you mean ISIL -- are one and the same, just different and somewhat but not really competing strains. Remember Turkey, who is MB, supports ISIL. I think it best to think of all Salafi Jihadis as one and the same: Salafi Jihad.

NY Times could eliminate reporters jobs
Rough times ahead for Pravda on the Hudson
...hearing the lamentations of their women...
[NYPost] Reporters at the New York Times could soon be “vulnerable” to the ax. If the ongoing round of voluntary buyouts being offered to editing staff does not get enough takers, the Gray Lady could begin another round, NYT Executive Editor Dean Baquet recently warned his top department editors.

“Up until now, the company had not indicated that layoffs would happen if targeted numbers weren’t achieved,” Grant Glickson, president of the NewsGuild, told Media Ink.

As part of the NYT’s ongoing restructuring of its editing ranks, 109 copy editors have had their jobs eliminated. There are estimated to be about 50 new jobs available in the restructured editing operation that the Times envisions for its digital- and video-oriented future.

When the downsizing was first revealed in late May, a memo from Baquet and Managing Editor Joe Kahn portrayed the cuts as a “streamlining” of the editing process and indicated that some of the savings would be used to hire up to 100 more journalists.

But in a mid-June meeting with department heads, Baquet admitted that journalists could be targeted in a new round of layoffs once the editing ranks are culled.

#1  Why pay reporters when you can just make up sh*t?
Hell, most of the recent NYT 'news' could be generated with a Markov chain.

#2  I didn't know the NYT had reporters. Only 'Journalists' who write fiction.

I mean, seriously, at this point what difference does it make.

Well, sure as hell the guys in the executive suite aren't going to take the hit. That would suggest error on their part, and these aren't the kind of people who admit that. They will continue to take their checks and benefits and insist a few more cuts are all that's necessary until all that's left downstairs is two guys with a desktop and printer.

#8  Why pay "reporters" a salary to rephrase material they are spoon fed by outside sources -- AI's and modern computers have reached that point already. Just pay for a human "editor" to correct the most egregious machine-ism's (like dealing with Engrish)..

#9  Like McDonalds, you could probably replace reporters with a kiosk.

#10  It's not like they doing anything useful. I mean, NYT's editorial positions are devoid of facts, so why would need reporters?

#11  Back in the early 80's my local Cable TV had one channel that mirrored the raw AP News feed -- just a paragraph or two of the basic story.
It was mind boggling to shortly see what product the local. and national, news twisted and massaged that story into!
