British soldier drowns ISIS thug in puddle as SBS troops fight like ‘crazed warriors' killing extremists with their bare hands after being ambushed in Iraq
Low of bullets, the heroic group of soldiers decided to 'go out fighting' after being encircled by the brainwashed death cult near Mosul

After the fearless special forces fighters ran out of bullets, they decided to "go out fighting" and used their knives and bare hands to kill as many brainwashed extremists as possible.

In an extraordinary survival story, another Brit soldier killed three militant thugs using his rifle as a club, reports The Daily Star.

The heroic members of the Royal Navy’s Special Boat Service were convinced they were going to die after being outnumbered and encircled after being ambushed by around 50 ISIS fighters near Mosul.

After killing at least 20 of the terrorists, the elite group realised they had around 10 bullets left between them and were trapped in a small river bed.

And faced with the prospect of being captured and tortured, the men opted for a "soldier’s death" and decided to fight like "crazed warriors" to kill as many of the extremists as possible.

Speaking with the Star, the source said: "They knew that if they were captured they would be tortured and decapitated.

"Rather than die on their knees, they went for a soldier’s death and charged the IS fighters who were moving along the river bed.

"They were screaming and swearing as they set about the terrorists."

The Brits shook hands and said goodbye, convinced they were going to die while charging the remaining 30 ISIS thugs.

They ran towards the depraved militants while firing off their remaining bullets before stabbing and slashing at the death cult members.

One man, a SBS Warrant Officer, drowned one of the ISIS soldiers in a puddle after forcing his face into the ground, claims the source.

The same man then picked up a stone and smashed the skull of another terrorist fighter.

The source added: "Another killed three of the fighters by using his assault rifle as a club."

After five minutes of hand-to-hand combat, 12 ISIS fanatics were dead or severely injured while the rest of the cowardly jihadists fled in fear.

Miraculously, everyone of the Brits survived despite all of the proud men sustaining injuries. At least two of the brave fighters received gun shot wounds.

They eventually walked five miles before hitching a ride back to an SAS base with a Kurdish soldier.

All but two of them returned to combat within a matter of days following the incredible incident.

Africa Subsaharan
Moo-gabe's gift: Zimbabwe leader sells cows to fund AU
As the African Union struggles to get members to pay dues, Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe took the bull by the horns and sold his own cattle for a sizeable donation to the body.
And now we understand why he told the youth in the country to herd cows.
Mugabe handed over $1 million (880,000 euros) at the start of the AU's bi-annual summit in Addis Ababa, after auctioning off 300 of his own cattle, as well as those belonging to some of his supporters.

The gift was a bid to show his resolve for making the AU self-supporting as the tricky questioning of financing tops the agenda.

"As an African and a farmer, the donation of cattle came naturally to me, given that our continent is rich in cattle and cattle are held as a store of wealth," said Mugabe, who has led Zimbabwe since its independence from white minority rule in 1980.

An AU official said Mugabe had initially offered the cows themselves, but decided to auction them off when the union replied that there was no space for them at the AU's shiny Chinese-built headquarters in Addis Ababa.

The AU is trying to wean itself from the foreign donors that finance the majority of its budget and has called on member states to impose a 0.2 percent levy on certain imports to cover its costs.

Funds from the import levy are supposed to cover 100 percent of the AU's operational costs, 75 percent of its program costs and 25 percent of its peacekeeping budget.

But so far, only a handful of the union's 55 member states have taken steps to implement the tax.

"Unless and until we can fund our own programs, the African Union will not be truly our own," Mugabe said.

Despite nagging questions about Mugabe's health, his ruling party claims that at 93, he is still as strong as an ox.

He is drumming up support ahead of elections next year when he plans to seek office again, steadfast in his plan to rule until the cows come home.

Justice Kennedy Tells October 2018 Clerkship Applicants He's Considering Retirement, Right Before 2018 Midterms
[Election Law Blog] Big news hiding in Nina Totenberg’s story on Justice Gorsuch voting 100% with Justice Thomas:

But it is unlikely that Kennedy will remain on the court for the full four years of the Trump presidency. While he long ago hired his law clerks for the coming term, he has not done so for the following term (beginning Oct. 2018), and has let applicants for those positions know he is considering retirement.

Kennedy’s position on the court is more than consequential. In the most hotly contested and closely divided cases, his vote often decides the outcome. With every passing day, it has become more clear that President Trump’s first Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, is probably even more conservative than the justice he replaced, Antonin Scalia.

This would put Justice Kennedy’s retirement right before the 2018 midterms, giving the Republican base reasons to turn out and keep the Senate with a Republican majority (already a strong possibility in 2018).

#3  As fanatical as the Antifa are, a suicide bombing of a Republican rally is NOT beyond the realm of possibility.

I think this visceral hatred of Trump and Republicans on the Left will result in some ghastly catastrophe in the near future. And then watch the heads explode as the media tries to blame it on Trump or the religious right.

As an aside, I pulled out an old book on the Russian Revolution the other day for some light reading and was struck almost immediately by the identical nature of the leftist tactics toward the Czar and their current behavior toward Trump. The left has never changed their playbook. Alinsky has shamelessly plagiarized Trotsky.

#6  The statutory definition of domestic terrorism in the United States has changed many times over the years; also, it can be argued that acts of domestic terrorism have been occurring since long before any legal definition was set forth.
Under current United States law, set forth in the USA PATRIOT Act, acts of domestic terrorism are those which: "(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State; (B) appear to be intended – (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and (C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States."

Island Beach State Park closed... except for Gov. Christie
[NPR] What's worse that a government shutdown closing your state's beaches on a sweltering holiday weekend?

Now we know: Seeing photos of the governor -- a key player in the budget standoff that caused the shutdown -- enjoying one of those empty beaches on Sunday afternoon like it was his own private island.

On Sunday, the New Jersey Star-Ledger took aerial photos of Christie and his family on the pristine Island Beach State Park, where there's a governor's residence. The governor is lounging in a beach chair, sand between his toes. Around him, people play paddleboard and enjoy beverages.

That afternoon, at a press conference in Trenton about the shutdown, Christie was asked if he had gotten any sun that day, the newspaper reports. "I didn't," he reportedly said. "I didn't get any sun today."

#5  Stupid move and equally stupid comments by an arrogant fat man. It won't matter that the residence was not on Park Property.

On Saturday, the governor had defended using a state park that is closed to the rest of the state's residents due to the budget impasse. Christie told the newspaper that his family doesn't use any state services while there, and emphasized that his residence is separate from the park.

With his trademark brusqueness, Christie told state residents how they could enjoy the beach.

"Run for governor, and you can have a residence there," he said.

Flight from Illinois to Continue as House Approves Historic 32% Tax Increase
[Zero Hedge] With Illinois, which on Saturday morning entered its third fiscal year without a budget, facing a catastrophic downgrade, late on Sunday evening the Illinois House approved the most controversial element of a budget package, a tax hike which will increase the income tax rate by 32% from 3.75% to 4.95%, and the corporate income tax rate from 5.25% to 7%, to try and end a historic budget impasse. The bill passed 72-45. The House also approved a $36 billion spending plan minutes later on a 81-34 vote. According to the Sun Times, it cleared an initial hurdle on Friday with 23 Republicans voting "yes."

"While no one could say this was an easy decision, it was the right decision," House Speaker Mike Madigan said after the spending bill vote. "There is more work to be done." Dems said they would work with Republicans on other resolution of other issues on table.

The proposed tax increase will now head back to the Illinois Senate, which approved a revenue bill on May 23 with all Democratic votes as part of its "grand bargain" package. But Governor Bruce Rauner has said he’ll only support an income tax hike if it’s limited to four years and paired with a four-year property tax freeze. He’s also still seeking changes in workers’ compensation and pensions.

Commenting on the just passed House bill, Rauner said he’ll veto the revenue bill.

"I will veto Mike Madigan’s permanent 32% tax hike. Illinois families don’t deserve to have more of the hard-earned money taken from them when the legislature has done little to restore confidence in government or grow jobs," Rauner said.

"Illinois families deserve more jobs, property tax relief and term limits. But tonight they got more of the same." He also said in an emailed statement that "if the legislature is willing to pass the largest tax hike in state history with no reforms, then we must engage citizens and redouble our efforts to change the state."

Some commentators promptly countered that Rauner's veto will likely be overriden.

The tax bill passed with some essential Republican support: it needed 71 votes. But Illinois House Republican Leader Jim Durkin questioned how it will address the state’s $14 billion backlog. Durkin is seeking to get Rauner the "balanced budget package," he wants, which includes spending reductions and "meaningful reforms."

CNBC and Reuters, same topic.

#5  Highlighting downstate neglect:

The bridge over the Wabash connecting Illinois Route 14 and Indiana Route 66 at New Harmony was completed without federal funds in 1932. At it's opening, a bridge toll of $ .05 was charged due to 'bad times in the economy.' The toll was to be lifted when 'things got better.' The bridge was condemned and closed a few years ago. The toll at closure was $1.00. Evidently things....'never got better.'

The center section rotated on big gears to allow the passage of steam boats. Closed in the late 1960's and bought by a local farmer, it was reopened with a toll of $1.00.

#11  It will pass and become law. The governor's veto will be overriden. Any future recovery due to tax increases will likely be offset by business and private departures from the state. Raising taxes is never the answer. Wen the bond ratings and borrowing ability went south, so did and chance for their financial survival. It's been coming along for decades, this should be interesting to watch.

#12  I have a lot of retiree friends (including from the Public Sector) that live in Illinois.

The private sector folks are kind of worried that one of the next steps might be asset forfeiture/nullification (as in anything held in local state or municipal bonds). I've been telling them for years that those were horrible investments, but there must be something in the water as the advice was mostly unheeded.

Private leases/usage agreements for public lands might bear review too, as these might be sold out from under the lessee.

The Public Sector retirees are worried that their pension disbursements will be delayed or withheld completely, having been seized as payment for Illinois' existing past-due debts. Since the state pension plans are woefully underfunded (in some cases at 20% or less), it's a possibility the plans will no longer exist.

The 32% rate increase on 'working' people wouldn't be enough to support the existing pension outlays with no real benefits beyond that. It's just Chicago/Springfield (D) kicking the can down the road again.

Lower than some other states for sure, but the sales taxes (6.25% state + County + Local) and plenty of other delightful county and municipal 'fees' more than make up for the seemingly lower state rate.

‘Obamaphone' program stashes $9 billion in private bank accounts
[Wash Times] The controversial "Obamaphone" program, which pays for cellphones for the poor, is rife with fraud, according to a new government report released Thursday that found more than a third of enrollees may not even be qualified.

Known officially as the Lifeline Program, the phone giveaway became a symbol of government waste in the previous administration. Now a new report from the Government Accountability Office bears out those concerns.

The report, requested by Sen. Claire McCaskill, Missouri Democrat, also says the program has stashed some $9 billion in assets in private bank accounts rather than with the federal treasury, further increasing risks and depriving taxpayers of the full benefit of that money.

"A complete lack of oversight is causing this program to fail the American taxpayer -- everything that could go wrong is going wrong," said Mrs. McCaskill, ranking Democrat on the Senate’s chief oversight committee and who is a former state auditor in Missouri.

"We’re currently letting phone companies cash a government check every month with little more than the honor system to hold them accountable, and that simply can’t continue," she said.

The program, run by the Federal Communications Commission, predates President Obama, but it gained attention during his administration when recipients began to associate the free phone with other benefits he doled out to the poor.

#7  As I recall, the corner pay phones were gotten rid of to deny crack dealers the ability to communicate, not to mention the idiots who were destroying the things for the sheer joy of destruction, which left those in poor neighbourhoods no way to contact the police, etc. in an emergency. This program was supposed to make up for that lack. Part-time daughter, who found herself during the Obama years trying to support herself and two babies on a part-time, low-paid job, was given an Obamaphone when she signed up for food stamps, though she didn't need a second cell phone and never used it after sending me a text to give me the number.

The problem is targetting each aspect of aid to those who truly need it instead of wastefully throwing the whole bundle at everyone. The other problem is recognizing there will always be some level of waste and abuse, and figuring out how to minimize it while still helping those who need help.

Europe
Poland did not invite refugees, has right to say 'no': Kaczynski
[YAHOO] Poland has a moral right to say 'no' to refugees, the country's most powerful politician said on Saturday.

Jaroslaw Kaczynski, head of the ruling party Law and Justice (PiS), gave his views on immigration at a party convention in Przysucha, 100 km (60 miles) south of Warsaw.

"We have not exploited the countries from which these refugees are coming to Europe these days, we have not used their labor force and finally we have not invited them to Europe. We have a full moral right to say 'no'," Kaczynski said in a speech broadcast on television.

Last month the European Commission launched a legal case against Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic for refusing to take in asylum seekers, highlighting the feud within the 28-nation bloc over how to deal with migration.

Kaczynski, who has criticized the European Union's relocation schemes for migrants on many occasions, also said that the PiS could not be accused of being anti-European, as it backed Poland's joining the block in 2004 and now appreciates the inflow of EU funds.

"The fact that we appreciate them (the funds), does not mean that we have lost the right to various assessments, including those regarding the historical context," Kaczynski said, adding that Poland has never received any compensation for the losses it suffered during the Second World War.

During his 70-minute speech, the PiS leader suggested the government increase social spending if the economic situation allows. He also said there was a need to reduce the share of foreign capital in the media sector.

Nigeria: Aisha Buhari Returns to London to Visit Ailing President
[All Africa] The wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, left for London on Sunday to visit her husband who is on medical vacation.

According to a statement by her media aide, Mrs. Buhari "will convey to the President the best wishes of Nigerians and their fervent prayers for his quick recovery."

"She is expected to stop over at Addis Ababa, to make a symbolic appearance at the meeting of the Organisation of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA) on Monday 3rd July, 2017.

"She will join other members to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the organisation, and use the opportunity to reiterate the voting rights of Nigeria in the upcoming elections of the organisation.

"She will continue her journey to the United Kingdom on Tuesday, 3rd July, 2017."

Mrs. Buhari's return to London comes a few days after the controversial Ekiti State Governor‎, Ayo Fayose, claimed she was not allowed to see the President Muhammadu Buhari during her first visit.

While addressing journalists last week, Mr. Fayose alleged that the president was on life support. He said a cabal had surrounded the president and called for his resignation.

Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress has, however, said President Buhari was recovering and not on life support.

The president has been in London for over 50 days for medical treatment, although details and nature of his ill health have not been made public.

Fire engulfs Syrian refugee camp in Bekaa Valley
[Al Jazeera] At least one child has died after a big fire engulfed a camp for hundreds of Syrian refugees in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley according to aid workers, who believe that there may be two more victims.

Flames and thick clouds of black smoke rose on Sunday from the site near the town of Qab Elias, which is an hour's drive from the capital, Beirut, while exploding gas canisters could be heard from a distance.

The blaze, which destroyed about 100 tents, also left at least six people injured according to the Red Cross. Emergency workers said the fire had turned the tent camp into "ashes", with only the bathrooms at the edge of the settlement left standing.

Al Jazeera's Imtiaz Tyab, reporting from the scene, described scenes of "utter devastation".

Colombian rebel leader in intensive care after stroke
[Al Jazeera] The top commander of Colombia's largest rebel movement was hospitalised on Sunday following a stroke and remains in intensive care, just days after his group handed over the last of its individual weapons as part of a historic peace deal.

Rodrigo Londono, better known by his nom de guerre Timochenko, checked himself into a hospital emergency room in the city of Villavicencio shortly after 8am (13:00 GMT) with slurred speech and numbness in his arm, doctors said in a news conference.

They said he remains in intensive care as a precautionary measure but his speech and mobility have already recovered 90 percent from what they described as a temporary blockage of blood flow to his brain.

Doctors said if there are no complications the leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) could be released in the next 24 to 48 hours.

"Of course he's conscious and making jokes," another rebel leader known by his alias Pastor Alape said at the press conference.

West African and French leaders launch Sahel force
[Al Jazeera] Five African countries have launched a new multinational force to fight armed groups in the Sahel region, which France's President Emmanuel Macron told a summit in Mali should be fully operational "in a matter of weeks".

The new regional anti-terror force is set to include as many as 5,000 soldiers, with one battalion from each of the so-called G5 Sahel countries: Mali, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad.

"Our enemies are cowards, but they have determination. They want to destroy us," Macron said on Sunday, in a regional summit with the G5-Sahel leaders in the Malian capital, Bamako.

France's president said his country would contribute $9m to the new force this year. He also mentioned a contribution of 70 vehicles, without saying whether that was included in the sum.

Iraq
Iraq exported more than 592 mn barrels of oil since January
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraq’s oil marketing company said Sunday the country exported 592.378 million barrels of petroleum during the first half of 2017.

In a statement, SOMO said that represented a monthly exportation rate of 98.729 nillion barrels, and a daily rate of 3.290 million barrels.

The exports yielded revenues worth USD26.771 million during that period, recording a monthly return of USD4.592 million a month., said the company.

The exports were acquired by 37 world companies, according to the statement.

The Iraqi petroleum ministry said earlier on Sunday that the average of Iraqi petroleum exports during June stood at 3.273 million barrels, up from 3.262 barrels in May.

Iraq is OPEC"s second largest oil producer after Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, recording a daily production of 477.5 million barrels per day in 2016.

Despite the planned increase, Iraq is recommending an extension of an OPEC agreement to cut members’ production, by 1.8 million barrels daily, beyond June.

A spokesperson of the Cabinet, Saad al-Hadithi, had said that Iraq wants the production cuts to extend for nine extra months to offset oversupply and enhance prices. He said the slashed production since the signing of the agreement last year had helped improve oil revenues gradually for exporting companies.

Septuagenarian BNP leader dies during attempt to avoid arrest
[Dhaka Tribune] An elderly BNP leader died reportedly while trying to escape arrest by police in Sadar upazila of Jessore on early Sunday. However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...
police claimed they had no connection to the death as they did not carry out raids to arrest anyone in the area.

Relatives of the dear departed Motleb Mia, 71, hailing from the upazila’s Panchbaria village, alleged the incident took place when he was fleeing from his home to avoid arrest, after being called by his elder daughter Jasmine Nahar Borsha, who lives with her in-laws in the neighbouring village of Phulbari.

Jasmine called him by phone around 11pm on Saturday, saying police had raided their residence to detain her husband. She also asked Motleb to flee his house, the relatives added.

Nazmun Nahar Poly, Motleb’s younger daughter, said he did indeed try to flee the location after receiving the phone call.

"As my father advanced a little further, he fell on the ground and died," she said, adding that their relatives and neighbours recovered the body and took it back home.

Motleb served as the chairman of Ichhali Union Gay Pareehad (UP) for 27 long years and was actively involved with BNP’s politics.

Hamas delegation in Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials
[AlAhram] A Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, delegation arrived in Cairo on Sunday for talks with Egyptian officials on security issues and Cairo’s assistance to the Israeli-besieged Gazoo Strip.

The delegation includes representatives from the interior, health, economic and finance ministries, according to Hamas’s statement, as reported by al-Ahram Arabic website.

"The delegation will discuss security talks on the borders, the Rafah border crossing, electricity and fuel issues," the statement read.

Hamas representatives visited Egypt for talks with officials last month.

Relations between Egypt and the Paleostinian Islamist group with rules the Gazoo Strip were strained in the wake of the ouster of then-president Mohammed Morsi in July 2013.

Cairo had accused Hamas of backing Egypt's banned Moslem Brüderbund organization and of smuggling goods and arms through tunnels under the Gazoo-Sinai border.

In early 2017, Paleostinian Hamas leader Mahmoud El-Zahar said that the movement's relations with Cairo have improved, evidenced by the reaching of an agreement on border control between the Gazoo Strip and Egypt.

In its new manifesto, released in February, Hamas, which was founded in 1989, rebranded itself as an Islamic national liberation movement, rather than a branch of the pan-Arab Moslem Brüderbund, which has been outlawed in Egypt.

In late June, Egypt trucked 1 million litres of cheap diesel fuel to the Gazoo Strip's sole power plant to temporarily eased a crippling electricity crisis in the enclave, according to the AP, which quoted Hamas officials.

The Hamas delegation arrived in Egypt on Sunday via the Rafah border crossing, which was opened specifically for them.

Egypt has kept its border with the Gazoo Strip largely closed since Morsi’s ouster.

Palestinian illegals nabbed in ‘Shas’ van on Shabbat
[IsraelTimes] Cops get suspicious of vehicle with ultra-Orthodox party’s stickers driving on the Jewish day of rest down a major highway.

Border Police officers on Saturday placed in durance vile
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
28 Paleostinians suspected of illegally entering Israel, some of whom were caught in a van bedecked with stickers from an ultra-Orthodox party driving on the Sabbath. It was not immediately clear if the van had been stolen.

The arrests took place along Route 6, the northern section of which runs adjacent to the West Bank.

Another six people were arrested for allegedly transporting the illegals into Israel, Hebrew media reports said.

Initial reports did not specify if these six were Israeli or Paleostinian.

Jewish law forbids driving on Shabbat; the Shas sticker therefore raised the suspicion of the Border Police officers who stopped the van.

The van also had a "For Sale" sign posted in the back window, on which it was written, also in accordance with Jewish law, not to phone on Shabbat.

Iraqi police kill 79 IS militants in Mosul’s Old City, free 550 civilians

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi government forces on Sunday recaptured more areas and killed 79 Islamic State militants in Mosul’s Old City as they pushed to the last few meters held by the extremist group.

The Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said the army’s Counter-Terrorism Forces recaptured Mekkawi area in the Old City and raised Iraqi flags above the area’s buildings.

Federal Police chief, Lt. Gen. Shaker Jawdat, said his forces killed the militants and set 550 civilians free after taking over Bab Jadid neighborhood in the Old City and consummated the recapture of al-Shifa district, a medical and health facilities hub north of the medieval district.

Jawdat revealed that civilians’ tip-offs led to the arrest of tens of militants hiding in the middle of civilians evacuated by the forces from the battlefield.

He also said forces took over the Bilal al-Habashi mosque in the Old City.

Some generals were quoted saying there were less than 200 fighters in the city, adding that the forces reached the western bank of the Tigris River.

Islamic State gunfires, bombs kill 28 civilians in Mosul’s Old City

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Lawfare: State to sue terrorists’ families for compensation
[IsraelTimes] In first such case, prosecutors file suit against family of Fadi al-Qunbar, who killed 4 soldiers in Jerusalem ramming attack.

Israel reportedly will soon launch a slew of lawsuits against the families of snuffies with the aim of recouping outlays on the associated costs of terror attacks.

Last month, prosecutors from the Jerusalem District Court filed the first such damages suit, in which they are seeking NIS 8 million ($2.3 million) from the widow and four children of Fadi al-Qunbar, the Haaretz daily reported Sunday.

Qunbar, a resident of East Jerusalem’s Jabel Mukaber neighborhood, killed four soldiers in January when he rammed his truck into a group of troops getting off a bus at a popular tourist site in the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood of the capital before being shot and killed by soldiers.

According to Haaretz, the state is seeking compensation from Qunbar’s family for the costs of the burial of the soldiers and the payments to the bereaved families, as well as for "the loss of earnings for the lost years, loss of pension and pension rights, shortening life expectancy" and "compensation for [the] pain and suffering that reflects the cruelty of the acts and the great suffering of all the murder victims."

In addition to the suit against Qunbar’s widow and children, the state has already filed damages claims against the family of another terrorist and is expected to file additional claims in the coming days, the report said.

Defending its decision to file the lawsuits, the State Prosecutor’s Office said that seeking damages from the families of snuffies would help deter would-be attackers.

"This suit, based on a terror incident in which soldiers were killed, was intended to reimburse to the state’s coffers the expenses connected with events like these and to convey a clear and unequivocal message that the state will [also] settle accounts from a civil perspective with perpetrators of evil acts," Haaretz quoted the prosecutor’s office as saying.

In addition to the lawsuit, Israel has taken a number of other retaliatory steps against Qunbar’s family, including revoking the residency permits of 10 of his relatives and sealing off the family home.

The moves come as Israel, with the help of the US, has been pressuring the Paleostinian Authority to stop paying stipends to attackers and their families. The PA has so far resisted any change to its policy, which Israel charges incentivizes terrorism.

The lady stomping up and down the street wearing an army helmet and screaming in Bulgarian was locked away, whether she actually knew the language or not. The guy who thought he was Napoleon Bonaparte, or General Pershing, or even just the Grand Poobah of something or other, had the room next to her. The guys in the white coats used to come for those who were unable to control their impulses -- kleptomaniacs, nymphomaniacs, and the plain maniacal. They became wards of the state, and they were often "treated" in ways that would curl your hair. Nellie Bly described it in 1887:
What, excepting torture, would produce insanity quicker than this treatment? Here is a class of women sent to be cured. I would like the expert physicians who are condemning me for my action, which has proven their ability, to take a perfectly sane and healthy woman, shut her up and make her sit from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. on straight-back benches, do not allow her to talk or move during these hours, give her no reading and let her know nothing of the world or its doings, give her bad food and harsh treatment, and see how long it will take to make her insane. Two months would make her a mental and physical wreck.

The New York World was able to spring its ace investigative reporter, several doctors had to uncomfortably explain how they had diagnosed a perfectly healthy woman "incurably insane," and New York ponied up more money for the care of its inmates.

Fast forward 130 years.

It's now just about impossible to get into a "mental hospital" (we don't have lunatic asylums, crazy houses, or cackle factories anymore) without blasting your way in. Threatening to kill yourself might do it, at least for a few days, but threatening to kill your next door neighbor will get you a court order, maybe. We "mainstream" the lady who thinks she speaks Bulgarian. It's up to the rest of us to try and communicate with her. Those incapable of controlling their impulses are indulged and often encouraged.

There used to be a saying about the lunatics being in control of the madhouse. Today not only in spite of, but precisely because of our better natures we're all living in the asylum. Just because it's assumed that no one's totally "normal," the abnormal are assumed to be "just like everybody else."

There was a story a few weeks back about a plastic surgery addicted fellow who wanted to have his genitalia removed so he could be a "sexless alien." There's a woman who's transformed herself into a "human Barbie Doll." If she wants to procreate (I doubt Barbie would. Is the human version still anatomically correct?) she could meet the "human Ken Doll" for drinks and a sesssion at the Motel 6. There are multiple Lizard People, a few cats, and maybe even houseplants (Who knows? If there are, I'm sure they'll tell us.) There was a long line of women who claimed convincingly and some no doubt sincerely to be Romanov Princess Anastasiya, and there would probably still be if that didn't require them to be 117 years old now, despite the DNA tests -- they found the bodies, you know; there she was, what was left of her.

A day or two ago we had a story about a guy having sex with a dead woman in public. The day before that we had the guy who got life in jug for deviant sex acts with vegetables -- what kind of sex acts with vegetables aren't "deviant?" The day before that a girl named Monalisa killed her sweet Pedro by shooting him through a book for a YouTube stunt -- okay, that one's just stupid, not insane. But anyway, since we were talking about not controlling our impulses, a week or so before that, a homicidal kleptomaniac teen girl swiped a machete from WalMart and hacked her Uber driver to death. The same day we saw the story about the guy arrested for raping a mare ("It wuz consensual, yer honor! Besides, I used a rubber!").

Day after day we get stories about people who just ain't right. The guys who shoot up nightclubs or chop off their mothers' heads or something just blend in with this never-ending series of stories about people who really would be better off living in rubber rooms, their opioid problems replaced by periodic doses of extra-strength sedatives. Close behind them are people who exhibit paranoid tendencies because the white race or the black race or the Russians or the Chinese or the Americans or the infidels or the penguins are plotting against them.

Which kind of brings us full circle, doesn't it? Rantburg will be sixteen years old this year, a chronicle of murder, mayhem, rape, torture, slavery, blood, and gore perpetrated by people whose turbans are too tight. My thought is that housing people who listen too closely to the voices in their heads and periodically giving them soothing potions would probably be cheaper in the long run than fighting a war on terror. How many cases of Valium can you buy for the cost of a Tomahawk?

#2  I occasionally read about Ultra-Marathoners, you know, the folks who run 30 marathons in 30 days. I would propose a 5 month program: Month 1, 5k a day. Month 2, 10 K a day. Month 3, 20K a day. Month 4, 30K a day. Month 5, a marathon(42K) a day. That would calm them down and send them back with vastly improved health (except for knees), and they would have lost all interest in sex so that solves a secondary problem.

Cause covering 'normal' people doesn't sell. It's boring. So you get a lot of 'not right'. What is it, 5 or 6 billion of us on this planet. Statistics say .001 percent is still a large amount with those numbers.

Part of the problem, there are fewer 'adults' around to shut down the whiners who keep pushing abnormal as normal. No its not normal. Quite trying to sell it, rationalize it as 'normal'. It's all part of trying to destroy civilization and society, the Year 0 cult.

As more and more people are trained as shrinks and psychologists, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) get expanded to include more and more categories of behavior. More categories of behavior outside the norms, ensures more work for the shrinks.

Liberals I know always blame Reagan for closing the mental hospitals. They say that's why we have so many homeless people on our streets and in our urban riverbeds. But what would they think if the men in the white coats got after Nancy Pelosi? I tend to believe we have so many homeless people because somebody feeds them and gives them money. But what would Jesus do? Lock them up? All I know is when you ride the San Diego Trolley and somebody sits next to you who is talking to himself and smells like pee it's unpleasant.

#13  #7 Abu Uluque. Liberals I know always blame Reagan for closing the mental hospitals.

The movement to close large mental hospitals started long before Reagan. Thomas Szasz was involved in this movement to close mental asylums. Community-based approaches were favored as alternative to institutionalization as early as the 1960s. The movement for community-based treatment programs tended to peter out when the money petered out. The large hospitals were closed but the community-based programs did not seem to catch on or garner money and the inmates were just turned out into the streets. Many of these people were really nuts and needed institutionalization. The result is that the police and jails ended up as the front-line intervention. People, if they exhibited craziness, as long as it wasn't criminal, would be taken into the jail, held briefly, detoxed if appropriate, and then released back to the streets. This cycle tended to repeat itself.

Iraq
Iraqi minister 'sorry' for Daesh war prisoners flap
[AA.TR] Iraqi Defense Minister Irfan al-Hayali has apologized for describing detained ISIS bully boyz as "war prisoners".

In a statement on Sunday, al-Hayali said he was sorry for "the confusion caused by his speech about the treatment of ISIS members as war prisoners".

"ISIS members are killers and criminals," he said.

"It's a terrorist organization and UN conventions don't apply to it," al-Hayali said, adding that ISIS bully boyz "will be treated according to Iraqi laws".

Last week, the Iraqi minister told news hounds that ISIS bully boyz held by Iraqi forces will be treated as war prisoners.

Military expert Khalil al-Nuaimi said ISIS bully boyz don't fall under Geneva Conventions about the treatment of war prisoners.

"Prisoners of war under the Geneva Convention are those who were detained during military fighting between two states, not between a state and a terrorist organization," he told Anadolu Agency.

The Iraqi military is engaged in a wide-ranging campaign -- launched last October -- to recapture the entire city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, which ISIS overran in mid-2014.

Hundreds of ISIS bully boyz have been captured by Iraqi forces during the fighting.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Kurds to punish two fighters involved in torturing ISIS militants in Raqqa
[ARA News] The defense body of the local self-administration in the Cizere canton, northeastern Syria, promises to punish two military conscripts of the Self Defence Forces (HPX) who appeared in a video while torturing ISIS myrmidons.

The video footage spread on social media in the past few days.

"A few days ago, a footage was circulated on social media about two HPX fighters’ bad behavior; torturing a mercenary [ISIS fighter] during the ongoing battles in the area," the Kurdish-led body said in a statement.

"We as Defense and Self-Protection Body in Cizîre canton denounce in strongest terms this act by the HPX fighters, this act is absolutely unacceptable and contradicts our ethical and humanitarian frameworks and values in peace and war," it said.

"We as Defense and Self-Protection Body are committed to international criteria mentioned in the UN charters about dealing with war captives," the self-administration body said.

"Starting from our humanitarian values and social customs, we will bring those two fighters to trial to be justly punished according to Democratic Autonomous Administration laws since they have broken laws and international criteria, and will be held accountable for their irresponsible, individual acts which contradict our ethics and values," the administration said.

The video footage was picked up by pro-Ottoman Turkish government Anadolu News Agency (AA), with the title PYD/PKK torturing civilians in Syria’s Raqqa, in order to damage the image of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD). This while The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

The Cizire, Kobani and Efrin self-administrations have enacted laws which mandate the conscription of 18-30 year-olds. The conscripts are inducted into the Self-Defence Forces or HPX, which serves as a reserve army.

In February, the local ANHA agency reported that more than 500 HPX soldiers were serving in Operation Euphrates Wrath, which aims to liberate Raqqa city.

In separate air strikes on Saturday, the army also killed five PKK fighters in southeast Turkey's Bingol province and another four Lions of Islam in the Metina region of northern Iraq, the army said.

It said another three PKK Lions of Islam were killed in festivities on Saturday in the southeastern provinces of Diyarbakir, Hakkari and Sirnak.

Twitter: Trump's Tweets Don't Violate Rules
[NEWSMAX] President Donald Trump's tirade on Sunday where he posted a mock video that showed him wrestling someone to the ground with a block head that read "CNN" did not violate any rules of Twitter, CNN reported Sunday.

Company officials reviewed Trump's tweet and considered three primary items: "the political context of the conversation surrounding the tweet, the various ways it could be interpreted and the lack of details in the tweet itself," the article explained.

Twitter can suspend an account for several reasons, such as tweets with violent threats, those that discriminate based on factors including race, religion or gender, and tweets targeting "abuse or harassment of others."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian nabbed for helping 3 terrorists in June’s Damascus Gate attack
[IsraelTimes] West Bank man suspected of arranging transportation for trio who carried out stabbing and shooting spree in which Hadas Malka was killed.

Police said Sunday they had locked away
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
a Paleostinian man who arranged transportation for three murderous Moslems who entered Jerusalem illegally and carried out a deadly attack last month, and vowed to crack down on others aiding illegal entry into Israel.

Police said the West Bank resident organized transport for a group of Paleostinians who did not have entry permits, including three men who carried out a combined shooting and stabbing attack near Jerusalem’s Old City that left border guard Hadas Malka dead on June 16. He was arrested last week, joining three others who are being held -- the man who drove the three, and the parents of the man who stabbed Malka to death.

The border policewoman was on patrol outside the Old City walls when she was attacked on Sultan Suleiman Street near Damascus Gate of the Old City in Jerusalem. She fought her attacker for several seconds while attempting to draw her weapon, according to a Border Police statement. She was stabbed in the chest and transferred at death's door to Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus in Jerusalem, where she underwent emergency surgery but succumbed to her injuries.

All three attackers, identified as West Bank Paleostinians, were killed.

Immediately after the attack police arrested a 52-year-old resident of East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya on suspicion of driving the three attackers, along with other West Bank Paleostinians, to Jerusalem. Investigators believe the man knew the intentions of his passengers but did not attempt to stop there and warn authorities.

According to the statement, the driver and the transportation organizer are being held on suspicion of causing death through negligence.

The investigation found that the Issawiya resident drove to Ramallah in the West Bank a day before the attack, on June 15, where he collected the West Bank residents and transported them to Jerusalem to pray at the Temple Mount during what was, at the time, the holy month of Ramadan.

The investigation found that the driver took them on a roundabout route through the south of the country to reach the capital. When they arrived in Jerusalem he dropped off all of the passengers at Damascus Gate. The statement did not detail the movements of the three attackers in the period of time before they assaulted police at the gate the following day.

Israeli law enforcement has long attempted to tamp down on Paleostinians entering Israel illegally, most of whom are employed in construction and other low-paying work. A number of attacks inside Israel have been carried out by Paleostinians who came in with others sneaking through to seek employment.

Police cited incitement in arresting the parents of one of the attackers.

Palestinians re-erect Jenin terrorist memorial razed by IDF
[IsraelTimes] Democratic Front activists restore stone structure praising Khaled Nazzal, who planned a 1974 attack that killed 26 people, mostly children.
Idiots. This is like President Reagan's Star Wars -- it was expensive for us, but it broke the back of the Soviet Union. But if the Palestinians want to waste their money just when foreign donations are drying up, then clearly it is Allah's will that they begger themselves for his own inscrutable reasons.
Paleostinian activists on Saturday re-erected a monument set up in honor of a Paleostinian terrorist in the town of Jenin, a day after it was bulldozed by the Israeli military.

The Jenin municipality last month named a square after "martyr" Khaled Nazzal, a Democratic Front for the Liberation of Paleostine
... a breakaway faction of the Pöpular Frönt för the Liberation of Paleostine. The are regarded as the most intellectual of Paleostinian fedayeen groups, smoking cheap cigarettes and drawing heavily on Marxist-Leninist theory to explain their crappy lives. They can occasionally be seen strutting through the streets of Paleostine, dressed up like soldiers and lugging firearms, though they seldom manage to hit anything and then usually by accident. This may be because of their habit of wearing black masks that cut off most of their vision. That would also explain their habit of occasionally walking into walls, which is a well-known attribute of those immersed in true understanding of the dialectic...
(DFLP) operative who planned a massacre in the northern town of Ma’alot in which Paleostinian holy warriors murdered 22 schoolchildren and four adults. It also erected a monument in Nazzal’s honor.

On Friday Israeli forces entered Jenin and removed the monument. During the operation, festivities broke out between soldiers and locals, during which one Israeli soldier was shot and moderately injured, while six Paleostinian protesters were maimed, one of them seriously.

On Saturday, DFLP activists again restored the monument to its location, images posted to thee group’s Facebook page showed.

Paleostinian media reports said soldiers entered Jenin early Sunday morning to demolish the monument for a second time, but a spokesperson for the Israeli military denied that.

#9  Centuries before the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire was the Fall of the Roman Republic. I trace the fall to the success in its most major conflict, the Second Punic War. Much like our success in the Second World War, it presented the victor with dominance in a vast area of the civilized world for which the constitution of Rome was not designed to handle. Ruling, influencing, garrisoning these new regions, totally distorted the checks and balances that could be operated within a city state political system. There you'll find the decline you are looking for, but one you won't like given how you enjoyed for so long playing among the Oligarchy which had displaced the old American republic, I doubt you want to cast yourself as part of the problem, not the solution. When the people in Washington decided to engage the world in '48, it poisoned itself, destroyed the checks and balances, to centralize power and resources. Looking around, you haven't 'saved the world'. It's been decades in the making, not months.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Stigma hides simmering drug addiction issues in Gaza Strip
Gaza, Iran, Afghanistan, ISIS with its Captagon factories.... The Hashashin of yore show the long history of the thing.
[IsraelTimes] With high unemployment and little hope, many residents of coastal enclave increasingly turning to narcotics, painkillers.

In the Gazoo Strip, the tiny Paleostinian territory sandwiched between Israel, Egypt and the Mediterranean and ravaged by three wars in a decade, drug abuse is often a hidden problem.

While no reliable statistics are available, experts and medical support groups estimate there are tens of thousands of drug users in Gazoo.

Young men are among those most affected in a territory suffering 45 percent unemployment, rising to more than 60 percent among the youth.

Narcotics such as cannabis are sold illegally in the enclave of some two million people, but many of the most serious addicts are hooked on illicitly bought prescription medicines.

Gazoo’s Islamist rulers Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, who have ruled the Strip for a decade and take a firm line on drugs, launched a fresh crackdown this year.

Hamas military courts have sentenced four Paleostinians to death for drug smuggling, the first such punishments for the crime since the terror group seized the Strip in 2007.

Raids have also uncovered record hauls of drugs, particularly Tramadol -- a powerful opiate-based painkiller that is widely available.

Iyad al-Bozum, front man for the Hamas-run interior ministry, told AFP there was an "organized plan to smuggle large quantities of drugs into Gazoo," saying dealers were targeting young people.

While some drugs are smuggled through the Israeli border, most enter from Gazoo’s southern border with Egypt, the ministry said.

Egyptian forces have since destroyed hundreds of cross-border tunnels and Hamas has launched a crackdown against dealers, but drugs have continued to flow into the territory.

In January, Hamas authorities announced they had seized as many drugs in one month as in the whole of 2016, with a street value of around $2 million.

They seized 1,250 packets of cannabis and 400,000 Tramadol pills in January alone, the interior ministry said.

Stigma
As a result of the crackdown, the price of a 10-pill pack of Tramadol is said to have doubled in two years to $120.

In a territory where more than two-thirds of the population rely on humanitarian aid, it is often the inability to pay that forces people to seek rehabilitation, said Sami Aweida from the Gazoo Community Mental Health Program.

Gazoo has no center dedicated to treating drug addicts, making reliable figures on abuse all but impossible to obtain.

Addicts who want to get clean often avoid specialists, Aweida said.

"People prefer to do it discreetly through a liberal doctor."

Prominent Palestinian lawmaker arrested on terrorism charges
[IsraelTimes] PFLP political head Khalida Jarrar, released from prison last year after serving 14 months for encouraging attacks, held on suspicion of involvement in terror activities.

A well-known Paleostinian politician and activist was placed in durance vile
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
Saturday night near the West Bank city of Ramallah as part of a joint operation by the IDF and the Shin Bet Security agency, a year after she was released from custody and feted by Israeli politicians.

Paleostinian Legislative Council (PLC) member Khalida Jarrar and fellow Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine member Khitam Khatib were among the 11 individuals arrested "on suspicion of involvement with terrorist activities and violent public disturbances," the army said in a statement.

Jarrar was elected in 2006 to the PLC as a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine, but the Paleostinian parliament has not met since 2007 after elections were won by the Islamist terror movement Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,.

Jarrar was heavily involved in cementing the Paleostinian Authority’s bid to join the International Criminal Court, a PLO spokesperson said in 2015.

The PFLP, a Marxist party considered a terrorist organization by Israel, is second-largest faction in the legislative body after the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
’s Fatah. Jarrar serves as the group’s political leader.

According to the army, her arrest on Saturday "had nothing to do with her membership in the Paleostinian Legislative Council."

In 2015, Jarrar was arrested and later sentenced to 15 months in prison for encouraging attacks against Israelis. She was released a year ago, a month early, due to overcrowding in Israeli jails, according to the Israel Prisons Service.

Upon her release she was greeted by MK Ayman Odeh, the head of the Joint (Arab) List party, and dozens of supporters. Odeh declined to comment Sunday on Jarrar’s latest arrest.

Jarrar has been tossed in the clink
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
multiple times, and still had a five-year suspended sentence upon her release last year, according to Paleostinian rights organization Addameer.

Her husband Ghassan Jarrar, himself tossed in the clink
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
multiple times, said upon her release that her last stint in prison was "very hard for her," adding proudly that she "set up a school in prison and five girls were able to pass their exams through it."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Three car bombings hit Syria’s Damascus, at least 20 killed
[ARA News] Three boom-mobileings have struck Damascus, killing 20 people in one of the blasts, in the biggest such attack in the Syrian capital since March.

One of the jacket wallahs on Sunday went kaboom! at Tahrir Square near Bab Touma in central Damascus after being encircled by the authorities.

According to a letter sent by the Syrian Foreign Ministry to the UN secretary-general, the number of casualties had gone up to 20.

Two other car kaboomers were pursued and detonated by security forces on the road to Damascus airport southeast of the city, Syrian state media reported.

State TV said the casualty toll had been minimised because the security forces had prevented "the gunnies from reaching their targets", saying they had aimed to target busy areas on the first day back to work after the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

Footage broadcast by state TV from Tahrir Square showed roads scattered with debris, several badly damaged cars, and another one that had been turned into a pile of twisted metal.

Damascus has been spared the large-scale battles that have devastated other major Syrian cities during the country’s six-year civil war. However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
dozens of people have been killed in bombings, particularly on the outskirts of the city.

In mid-March, kabooms on a courthouse and restaurant in Damascus killed 32 people. They were claimed by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) group. That came days after two kabooms that left 74 dead in the capital’s Old City and were claimed by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham alliance, led by the former al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat Fateh al-Sham
...formerly al-Nusra, the current false nose and mustache of al-Qaeda in the Levant...

An Nahar adds:
The Observatory, a Britannia-based monitor, said 18 people were killed in the bombing, including at least seven members of pro-regime security forces and two civilians. It had not identified the remaining victims.
AA.TR reports:
At least 19 people were killed in a boom-mobileing in Syrian capital Damascus on Sunday, according to local medical sources.

The fatalities occurred when a bomber detonated his explosives-laden vehicle in Tahrir square in central Damascus, the sources said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to media.

Fifteen people were also injured in the bombing, the sources said.

8 wounded in France mosque shooting, not terrorism
[DAWN] Eight people including a girl were lightly maimed late Sunday in a shooting in front of a mosque in the southeast French city of Avignon, the prosecutor's office said, ruling out terrorism.

According to initial accounts taken on the spot, at least two men got out of a car around 10:30pm near the mosque and opened fire, including with a shotgun, the prosecutor's office said.

None of the maimed had life-threatening injuries, it said.

"From what we know this evening, the mosque was not targeted. The fact that it happened in the street of the religious establishment was unconnected with it," the prosecutor said, ruling out terrorism.

Witness accounts mentioned four men in the car, all hooded.

The criminal investigation department has taken charge of the case.

Al-Qaeda in Mali releases video showing 6 foreign hostages alive
The other traditional Muslim method of fundraising, going back to the first Crusade, if not earlier.
[IsraelTimes] Publication of film comes as French president visits country to discuss ongoing fight against jihadists.

Al-Qaeda’s Mali branch has released a proof-of-life video of six foreign hostages, including elderly Australian surgeon Arthur Kenneth Elliott and Frenchwoman Sophie Petronin, US-based monitoring group SITE said.

The 16 minute, 50 second video by Nusrat al-Islam wal Moslemeen, also known as the Group to Support Islam and Moslems, was released on Telegram on Saturday, SITE said.

The other four hostages shown are South African Stephen McGown, Romanian Iulian Ghergut, Swiss missionary Beatrice Stockly and Colombian nun Gloria Cecilia Narvaez Argoti.

No group had previously grabbed credit for kidnapping Frenchwoman Petronin, who was kidnapped in late 2016 by gunnies in the northern Malian town of Gao, where she ran an organization for malnourished children.

After a video clip showing Petronin, the narrator said she was hoping the French president would help return her to her family, according to SITE.

The video was released just before French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Mali on Sunday to consolidate Western backing for a regional anti-jihadist force.

In the video, the hostages are separately introduced by a narrator, who says that so far there have been no negotiations for their release.

The first shown is McGown, who was kidnapped in Timbuktu, northern Mali, in November 2011.

"It’s a long time to be away ... Until when do you think this will come to an end? Now we’re making a new video, but I don’t know what to say. It’s all been said in the past. It’s all been said in previous videos I’ve made," McGowan says, according to a transcription by SITE.

He is followed by Australian Elliott, in his 80s, who, along with his wife Jocelyn, was kidnapped in January 2015 in Djibo, Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
, where the couple had run the sole medical clinic since 1972. Jocelyn was released in February 2016.

Next in the video is Romanian mineworker Ghergut, who says he was captured in Burkina Faso on April 4, 2015.

The women are then shown, including Swiss missionary Stockly, who was kidnapped in Mali in January 2016.

Colombian nun Argoti was seized by gunnies in the Mali village of Karangasso close to the Burkina Faso border in February 2017.

At the end of the undated video, while not spelling out any demands the narrator tells the hostages’ families "no genuine negotiations have begun" for their release but then adds that negotiations are "still active/"

Indian gang-rape survivor attacked with acid, yet again
[DAWN] LUCKNOW: A gang-rape and acid attack survivor has once again been attacked with acid in Aliganj locality here, police said on Sunday.

This was the fifth attack on the woman, they said. The latest incident took place on Saturday night near a hostel where she resides.

She was rushed to a hospital where her condition was said to be stable. She has sustained burn injuries on her face and neck, according to police, adding that no FIR has been registered so far as they are waiting for a complaint. A probe is under way, they said.

On March 23, the woman was allegedly forced to drink acid by two men on board a train near here.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had visited her at a hospital and announced a compensation of Rs100,000 for the 45-year-old woman.

The incident came to light when the woman got off the Allahabad-Lucknow Ganga Gomti Express at Charbagh Station here and gave a written complaint to the railway police. She wrote the complaint because she could not speak. According to the complaint, two persons had forced her to drink acid.

Earlier, two men had allegedly raped and attacked her with acid over a property dispute in 2009 in her home at Unchahar, about 100 kilometres from Lucknow.

The woman works with Sheroes Hangout Cafe, an outlet run by acid attack survivors in Lucknow.

In 2012 the woman was attacked with a knife and in 2013 with acid, police sources said.

Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
80 people for life, 34 for 15 years and one for 10 years in the same case and acquitted 20 other defendants.

#1  It's a bit jumbled I think, but The court slapped the defendants with a total fine of $62,000 and placed them under surveillance for five years after serving their sentences. Why would they want to keep an eye out on dead bodies, considering their sentences is being put to death... (/sarc)

Nigeria: Ex-VP Sambo Expresses Concern Over Frequent Raid On His Residence By Anti-Graft Agency
[All Africa] Former Vice-President Namadi Sambo has raised the alarm over the frequent raid on one of his Kaduna residences by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), saying the pace of their invasions portrays a desire to find fault by every means possible.
I remember him from when he was little...
The latest of these raids took place last Wednesday, when the ICPC operatives, along with heavily armed security operatives stormed the house located at No.1 Alimi Road, for a search that lasted about two hours.
He once had a near-fatal encounter with four tigers...
The ICPC, despite concerns raised by Sambo, has maintained sealed lips on the development. But the police, yesterday, denied having anything to do with the raid on the former Vice President's residence.
They made an easy entrance. It was like it was greased with butter...
A statement on Saturday by Umar Sani, spokesman of the former vice-president, stated that the house had been searched five times in the last six months, noting that some of the fittings in the house and other valuables had been damaged in the process. The statement said no incriminating thing was found at the residence, a fact attested to by some of the operatives who carried out the search.
Everybody was satisfied and they all had some tasty pancakes.

Islamic State prescribes 50 lashes for bringing up Baghdadi’s death

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) The Islamic State has prescribed a punishment of 50 lashes for whoever brings up the issue of the survival of the group’s supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadil, a local source said Sunday.

According to the source, who spoke to Alsumaria News, the group circulated a brief bulletin across the town of Tal Afar, west of Mosul, setting a punishment of 50 whips for whoever discusses Baghdadi’s death rumors.

The measure came one day after a Friday prayer sermon delivered by a close aide to Baghdadi stoked suspicions around his possible demise during operations by Iraqi and U.S.-led international coalition forces.

According to the source, the move came to avert possible exacerbation of already existing divisions and leadership conflicts.

Baghdadi’s only appearance was in a video clip showing him making the sermon proclaiming the establishment of an Islamist “caliphate” in the Old City’s Grand Nuri Mosque in June 2014, and never showed up again. Speculations and clashing reports about his whereabouts and survival have been plenteous.

Russia said last month it was 100% of his death.

Islamic State execute preacher over Baghdadi’s death sermon

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) The Islamic State has executed a top leader whose slip of a tongue revived suspicions that the group’s runaway leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, might have been killed.

Alsumaria News quoted a local source on Sunday that saying Abu Qutaiba was burned to death in the group’s stronghold town of Tal Afar, shortly after his arrest over charges of “stirring sedition” through a Friday prayer sermon in which he inadvertently suggested Baghdadi’s possible demise.

Food security “fragile” for 3.5 mn Iraqi refugees: U.N.

snuffies remains "fragile", a United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
official in Iraq said Sunday.

Fadel a-Zubi, representative of the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization, that nearly 3.5 million displaced people, 3 millions repatriated and 250.000 Syrian refugees inside Iraq are experiencing a "fragile" access to food.

He added in press statements that families in the western side of the city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, where Iraqi forces are days away from eliminating the Islamic State, are finding a difficulty in getting foodstuff.

He said FAO continues efforts to rehabilitate damaged irrigation canals in the province so as for farmers to resume work to secure their food needs.

The war against IS in Mosul, now entering its ninth month, has displaced at least 900.000 civilians. The Iraqi government and U.N. agency estimate more than four million people displaced since the emergence of the Islamic State snuffies in 2014.

Adding to medical and foodstuff shortages, refugees have been increasingly targeted by IS snipers or caught and later executed during their attempts to flee battlefields towards areas held by security forces. IS fighters have also reportedly held food supplies for fighters and their families exclusively.
