Airbus Aerial and Southern Company team on first-of-its-kind inspection of power lines in Georgia
[Nasdaq GlobeNewswire] ATLANTA, Sept. 20, 2017 - Airbus Aerial, the commercial aerial services business recently launched by Airbus, partnered with major utility, Southern Company, to field a first-of-its-kind demonstration of power line inspections using a blend of aerial technologies. The demonstration used Airbus satellite systems to inspect Southern Company’s electrical lines across a region of Georgia and a drone to collect finer detail along a 30-mile (48.2 km) span outside Atlanta. This marks the first time drone and satellite imaging technologies have been used in unison and the first beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone flight in Georgia.

Authorities and executives from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Southern Company, Airbus Unmanned Aerial Systems division in Europe, as well as several Airbus Aerial business partners attended the trial.

"Our goal here was to demonstrate how our technology can support Southern Company in monitoring their energy infrastructure - particularly in remote locations, help them improve maintenance efficiency, ensure service continuity, support personnel safety and save costs," said Jesse Kallman, President of Airbus Aerial.

Airbus Aerial brings together aerospace technologies such as drones and satellites, combines them in a common software infrastructure, and applies industry-specific analytics to deliver tailored solutions to customers in utilities, agriculture, insurance and other markets. "In this case, we were able to image an entire portion of the State of Georgia by satellite, identify the need areas along the lines where maintenance issues could occur, then used BVLOS drone inspections to determine how to remedy the issue," said Kallman.

"We put this demo together in concert with Airbus Aerial to demonstrate to our internal customers the relative benefits of Beyond Line of Sight inspections," explained Harry Nuttall, Director of System Air, Southern Company.

#1  I used to fly "Powerline Patrols." 50-feet above the wires unless cows, houses, peeples, etc required a climb to a more appropriate altitude. Some days....

See those crossbars between the poles? That's what they're (usually) evaluating.

1. Drones make more sense than the expense of an aircraft, pilot and utility rep.
2. Some days, the turbulence at low altitudes required cancelling. Can't have the utility guy throwing up all over the a/c!
3. Lastly, the " unique identifier" numbers required on drones are very tiny. Harder to get "busted."

Buffett calls pessimists about United States 'out of their mind'
[Reuters] NEW YORK - Uncertainty about how the United States will cope with growing tumult in the world has not dampened Warren Buffett’s optimism for the country’s prospects over the long term -- even 100 years into the future.

"Whenever I hear people talk pessimistically about this country, I think they’re out of their mind," Buffett, the chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc (BRKa.N), said on Tuesday night.

Buffett spoke in New York at an event celebrating the 100th anniversary of Forbes magazine, and is on the cover of an issue featuring 100 of the world’s greatest living "business minds."

The billionaire has transformed Berkshire since 1965 from a failing textile company into a conglomerate with more than 90 businesses in such sectors as insurance, railroads, energy and retail, and well over $100 billion of stocks.

Buffett said he expects the Dow Jones Industrial Average to be "over 1 million" in 100 years, up from Tuesday’s close of 22,370.80. He said that’s not unreasonable, given how the index was roughly 81 a century ago.

But he knows he won’t be around to see it happen.

"When I hear talking about making it to 100, I get excited," he said. "I’m 87."

Buffett said he recently determined that of the 53,364 people in the United States who were at least 100 years old, the ratio of women to men was nearly 5-to-1.

RAF Drone Stops Islamic State Public Execution
[Daily Mail/Telegraph/Newsweek/Yahoo] The footage shows two handcuffed prisoners being led from a van and placed in front of a large group of spectators in the Islamic State-held town of Abu Kamal in eastern Syria.

The strike hits an Isil sniper on a nearby roof and the civilians and fighters scatter before the killing can be carried out.

Releasing the footage on Tuesday, the Ministry of Defence explained that it could not target the Isis militants on the ground directly because that would have also killed civilians.

Right to work scores a major win in Wisconsin
The Free Beacon updates us on the right to work movement in Wisconsin, where the state court of appeals has just delivered a major ruling which comes as a serious blow to the state's unions. The Badger State passed a right to work law back in 2015 which forbid companies from making union membership compulsory as a condition of employment, but the unions have been throwing their full weight into challenging the law and tying it up in court.

That may have finally come to an end this week as the justices tossed out one of their final claims. The unions argued that the law was somehow in violation of the state constitution, but the court found the argument unpersuasive.

Here is the best part of their communist/collectivist/statist argument

What made the unions' claim in this case so remarkably outrageous was the way they framed their objection. The plaintiffs claimed that the law deprived them of property without compensation. In essence, what they were saying was that a portion of every worker's paycheck was theirs by right and passing a law denying them their cut of the money was therefore unconstitutional.

That's right. Your labor and your compensation don't belong to you. It belongs to the special interest groups or the government.
So glad this was smacked down. Goddamn parasites.

Latest GOP Effort To Replace Obamacare Could End Health Care For Millions
[The Onerous NPR] It wasn't that long ago that the effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act died once and for all in the Senate. Or so many thought.

But like the killer robot in The Terminator or the undead fighters in Game of Thrones, the repeal effort has risen once again from the ashes in the form of a bill known as Graham-Cassidy.

The bill, introduced Sept. 13 by Sens. Bill Cassidy, R-La., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., with little hope of going anywhere, has gained steam in its short life and now looks like it may actually come to a vote in the Senate in the coming days.

Many opponents say the bill will result in millions of people losing their insurance coverage.
They do say that, yes. But since even more millions are forced under Obamacare to pay for insurance they can't afford to use, and which no doctors will accept, they'll actually be ahead both financially and in terms of actually getting needed medical care.
"The Graham-Cassidy plan would take health insurance coverage away from millions of people, eliminate critical public health funding, devastate the Medicaid program, increase out-of-pocket costs and weaken or eliminate protections for people living with pre-existing conditions," says Georges Benjamin, executive director of the American Public Health Association, in a statement.

Tucker ON FIRE Over Trump Wiretap: ‘We Live In A Country With Deeply Corrupt Institutions' [VIDEO]
[Daily Caller] Carlson mocked critics in a sarcastic voice saying, "Wiretapping? Come on. That’s tin foil hat stuff, it’s nuts!"

The Daily Caller co-founder continued, "Now, in another time with more trustworthy institutions that would have been the end of the story. But we live in a country with deeply corrupt institutions..."

Carlson recapped recent reports, stating, "According to a now report from CNN, Paul Manafort who for a time last year was Trump’s campaign chairman was wiretapped by the federal government both before and after the election."

"Manafort, it ought to be noted, had an apartment inside Trump Tower during that time so it’s virtually certain that surveillance of him would have included other members of the Trump campaign staff, maybe Trump himself," he said.

Carlson is referring to a recent report from CNN that shows that Manafort was wiretapped before the election by the federal government.

#1  Dick Morris and Eileen McGainn, Rogue Spooks, Page 151-152

But the NSA intercepts were not permitted to identify that Michael Flynn was the American speaking with Kislyak [Russian Ambassador to the U.S.]. Becaue Flynn is an American citizen, FISA rules did not permit him to be identified in the phone intercepts. He is listed as "Citizen One" or some such description, and the actual name is redacted.

So Susan Rice, Obama's national security adviser, asked the NSA to "unmask" Flynn's name so it could be proven that it was he who had the conversation with the Russians. Somehow, someone, whose identity has yet to be published, leaked the fact that it was Flynn who had spoken to the Russians.

Rice didn't mindlink the fact of Flynn had discussions with Kislyak, she was tipped off to Flynn's identity through someone in the intelligence community. He was targeted! Targeted not unlike Paul Manafort and possibly many others.

At lease one likely reason for the Flynn targeting can be found on page 147 of the Morris' book. Flynn was seen as someone who could "blow up the myth" of the Iran deal as being a great Soetoro achievement.

One should keep in mind that those hundred of millions of dollars in USD and Swiss francs, palletized, placed upon 'unmarked' aircraft and sent to Iran in the middle of the night were NOT appropriated by the Congress. Someone else was involved in their authorization and transfer. Mike

Flynn was undoubtedly knowledgeable of this bit of intelligence community mischief, and probably substantially more. He had to be discredited and silenced.

Mo. Gov Warns St. Louis Protesters: Only ‘Safe Space' for Looters Is ‘in a Jail Cell'
[Breitbart] Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens warned demonstrators in St. Louis, Missouri, that looting and violence would not be tolerated as violent protesters continue to wreak havoc in the city.

"We had leaders who wanted to give people a safe space to loot and to burn," Greitens told Fox News. "Now in Missouri if you loot the only safe space you’re going to have is in a jail cell."

"If you’re going to riot we’re going to cuff you," he continued. "Violence and vandalism is not protest. It is a crime."

Violent protesters stormed St. Louis following a judge’s decision Friday to acquit former police officer Jason Stockley, a white male, of murder charges in connection the 2011 shooting death of Anthony Lamar Smith, a black male.

Japan deploys missile interceptor near recent flight path
[Stars & Stripes] TOKYO ‐ Japan is moving a mobile missile-defense system on the northern island of Hokkaido to a base near recent North Korean missile flyover routes.

Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said Tuesday that a Patriot Advanced Capability-3 interceptor unit is being deployed at the Hakodate base on southern Hokkaido.

The relocation comes days after a North Korean missile was test-fired last week that flew over southern Hokkaido and landing in the Pacific off the island's east coast ‐ a second flyover in less than a month. The PAC-3 was brought from another base on Hokkaido.

Actor Morgan Freeman recruited to re-inflate flaccid Russiagate
[HOT Air] Sort of. He’s the A-lister enlisted as spokesman in the first ad for the new "Committee to Investigate Russia," a group of Democratic partisans like Rob Reiner and center-right hawks like David Frum who are joining forces to ... investigate Russia? Not really. Judging from the website, it looks more like they’re curating news about people who are investigating Russia.
That would be Freeman on the.... left.
A clearinghouse for Russiagate information that tries to put new developments in context would be a useful thing, actually, as the plot has become increasingly byzantine. There’s Mike Flynn and his undeclared foreign lobbying; there’s Paul Manafort and his work for Putin’s crony in Ukraine; there’s the half-assed Don Jr meeting with the Russian lawyers; there’s the Agalarov family, which made a cameo in the Don Jr meeting and which has known POTUS for years; there’s Felix Sater and his weird tangle of dubious relationships; there’s the mystery of how Russian ad purchasers knew which American voters to target on Facebook; and on and on.

"Explanatory journalism" is usually a euphemism for liberals dressing up their policy preferences as dispassionate analyses of current events and aiming them at a younger audience but Russiagate really could use some user-friendly explanatory journalism. Keep it (mostly) simple, make it graphics-intensive, ensure that it stays on top of the latest news. Add a natsec lawyer or two a la Lawfare to explain legal esoterica when it arises, which will be often. Last night’s Manafort bombshell is an example. To obtain a FISA warrant to wiretap a U.S. citizen, the feds would have needed to produce evidence that he’s an agent of a foreign power. What might that evidence look like in his case?

What did Soetoro Know about Comey's Surveillance?
[WSJ] This week CNN is reporting more details on the Obama Administration’s 2016 surveillance of people connected to the presidential campaign of the party out of power. It seems that once President Obama’s appointee to run the FBI, James Comey, had secured authorization for wiretapping, the bureau continued its surveillance into 2017. CNN reports:

US investigators wiretapped former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort under secret court orders before and after the election, sources tell CNN, an extraordinary step involving a high-ranking campaign official now at the center of the Russia meddling probe.

The government snooping continued into early this year, including a period when Manafort was known to talk to President Donald Trump.

Some of the intelligence collected includes communications that sparked concerns among investigators that Manafort had encouraged the Russians to help with the campaign, according to three sources familiar with the investigation. Two of these sources, however, cautioned that the evidence is not conclusive.

This means the wiretapping was authorized more than ten months ago and perhaps more than a year ago. It was presumably a tough decision for a judge to issue a secret warrant under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, enabling the administration to spy on someone connected with the presidential campaign of its political adversaries.

One would presumably only approve such an order if the request presented by the executive branch was highly compelling and likely to produce evidence that the subject of the wiretap was in fact working with Russia to disrupt U.S. elections. Roughly a year later, as the public still waits for such evidence, this column wonders how this judge is feeling now, especially now that CNN has reported that at least two of its three sources believe the resulting evidence is inconclusive.

One would also presume‐or at least hope‐that seeking to wiretap associates of the leader of the political opposition is not an everyday occurrence in any administration. At the very least, it seems highly unlikely that such a decision would be made by a mid-level official. CNN notes, "Such warrants require the approval of top Justice Department and FBI officials, and the FBI must provide the court with information showing suspicion that the subject of the warrant may be acting as an agent of a foreign power."

It seems reasonable for the public to know exactly which officials made this decision and who else they consulted or informed of their surveillance plans. Was the President briefed on the details of this investigation?

Properly conducted damage assessment investigations begin with the assumption of compromise and work backwards.

The Pakistani Awans had a capability that was technically illegal for the intelligence community (IC) to conduct. If you were an IC collection manager, how quickly would you be to shut down their unique collection capabilty, without first attempting to exploit or guide it? Might you want to monitor this capability for period of time, say 5 weeks, 5 months...... 10 years?

If the Awans were re-transmitting their collection back to Pakistan or elsewhere, and potentially receiving non-U.S. intelligence 'taskings'....might be something to keep an eye on and also attempt to exploit.

Strangely, or not so, the Awan case appears to have come to light about the same time President Trump took office.

Considering the timeline: The 'players' involved, the intelligence communities' already established positions and close relationship with the WH, NSC, and Cabinet. The legislative bodies, agencies, Departments, et cetera.

Arguably all both corrupt and incompetent. Were they not, we'd not hear of the Awans. At least not in the usual sense.

Hillary Clinton Still Coughing At Book Event [VIDEO]
[Daily Caller] Hillary Clinton’s infamous cough returned during a Monday CSPAN event for Clinton’s newly released book "What Happened."

Clinton’s doctor revealed back on the campaign trail that the failed presidential candidate had pneumonia, attempting to explain away the hacking that seemed to follow her to every event.

Perhaps the worst fit was at an Ohio event where she struggled with a nearly 2-minute-long coughing fit that she blamed on being allergic to Trump.

Her cough continued after the campaign, however, causing her to choke up during her commencement speech at Wellesley College. Clinton brushed off her croaky throat and need for a lozenge by saying she was both emotional and battling allergies.

Climate scientists: Previous warming estimates were ‘on the hot side'
The world has warmed more slowly than had been forecast by computer models, which were “on the hot side” and overstated the impact of emissions, a new study has found. Its projections suggest that the world has a better chance than previously claimed of meeting the goal set by the Paris agreement on climate change to limit warming to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels.

The study, published in the journal Nature Geoscience, makes clear that rapid reductions in emissions will still be required but suggests that the world has more time to make the changes.

Manafort demands investigation into wiretapping reports
[The Hill] President Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort is demanding an investigation into a report that he was wiretapped during and after the 2016 election.

Manafort said in a statement Tuesday that the Department of Justice's (DOJ) Office of Inspector General must "immediately conduct an investigation into these leaks and to examine the motivations behind a previous Administration’s effort to surveil a political opponent."

"Mr. Manafort requests that the Department of Justice release any intercepts involving him and any non-Americans so interested parties can come to the same conclusion as the DOJ ‐ there is nothing there."

Manafort also blasted the reports that he was wiretapped during and the 2016 campaign, saying that it is illegal to disclose FISA warrants under the law.

Manafort was responding to reports that the government obtained a secret court order under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) in 2014 allegedly to focus on his work consulting for the government of Ukraine.

A second warrant obtained by the government was allegedly part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian election interference.

#1  I'm running out of popcorn on this one. First there were no wire taps, then there was. Trump was right? Who leaked it to Trump? To CNN? Who signed the FISA? Rice? Is she in contempt for denying it to congress? Oh how this will make a great movie, it can run with days of our lives...

#2  13 Questions About The Wiretapping Of Paul Manafort
Posted by: Vast Right Wing Conspiracy || 09/20/2017 11:42 Comments || Top||

#3  From VRWC's posting above:

12. "Why did Attorney General Jeff Sessions say there was no basis for Trump’s tweet when it seems clear that in fact someone as senior as Manafort, working and operating within Trump Tower, was indeed wiretapped? It is possible he was being literal and specific. But if this wiretap did indeed pick up conversations with Trump, how did Sessions not know about it? Was his recusal part of that? Did it end prior to his confirmation?"

Perhaps 'U.S. Intelligence didn't conduct the alleged electronic surveillance? Would it be too big a leap to assume Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak was also being monitored by other intelligence services ?

Would shared production (and incidental collection) from a fellow 'Five Eyes' member be a method in which cumbersome U.S. privacy laws could be circumvented ?

Senate GOP Reaches Tentative Deal For 10 Year, $1.5 Trillion Tax Cut
[Free Beacon] Senate Republicans announced Tuesday that they have struck a tentative deal for sweeping tax reform, with tax cuts totaling $1.5 trillion over 10 years.

Sen. Bob Corker (R., Tenn.) informed reporters with the Wall Street Journal about the deal, but declined to provide specific numbers. The deal was reached after a Tuesday Senate Republican working lunch. Vice President Mike Pence was reportedly also in attendance.

The plan itself has not yet been written. House, Senate, and White House tax leaders are scheduled to release more information next week.

Part of passing such a tax cut would require Republicans negotiating and passing a budget with offsets for the reduction in incomes. If Republicans can create a revenue-neutral bill, they will be able to, under Senate rules, pass their budget and tax cut through on a simple majority vote, i.e. without needing to pick up any Democratic votes.

Reducing the size of the budget will also allow Republicans to avoid making tough calls on removing tax deductions from the current code. Though large, the cuts may not be permanent, with some allowed to sunset after 10 years.

Democrats were critical of the plan out of the gate, noting the nation's $20 trillion debt and projected $10 trillion deficit over the next decade. Continued deficit spending at this scale could endanger the U.S.'s credit-worthiness, as when Standard & Poor's downgraded it in 2011.

"If this was starting with a clean balance sheet, it would be problematic," Sen. Mark Warner (D., Va.) said. "But it is exponentially more problematic."

‘Resistance' Groups Quiet on Whether They Received Donations Clinton Aides Claimed She Gave From Nonprofit
[Free Beacon] A number of liberal "resistance" groups would not say if they received the donations that aides of failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton claimed she sent from her dark money nonprofit, with one group outright saying they did not receive a contribution from Clinton's group.

Clinton said in May that she had intended to "be a part of the resistance" against President Donald Trump and announced that she had started Onward Together, a 501 (c)(4) nonprofit that allows donors to contribute unlimited sums of money and does not have to disclose its contributors. Clinton said she would use the group to fund established liberal resistance groups that are in a position to quickly counter Trump through direct action and protests.

"From the Women's March to airports across the country where communities are welcoming immigrants and refugees to town hall meetings in every community, Americans are speaking out like never before," Clinton wrote in an email to supporters in May. "I believe more fiercely than ever that citizen engagement at every level is central to a strong and vibrant democracy."

"In some cases, we'll provide direct funding to these organizations. For others, we'll help amplify their work and do what we can to help them continue to grow their audiences and expand their reach."

The Daily Caller reached out to five organizations that Clinton said she had already funded asking them to confirm if they have received the contributions. Indivisible, who has partnered with a number of other liberal group for town hall events earlier this year, was the only group to respond and said they have not received any money from Clinton.

Hungary set for fresh anti-Soros blitz
[YAHOO] Hungary is set to launch another state "national consultation" about US financier and philanthropist George Soros
...either Ernst Stavro Blofeld or Auric Goldfinger come true...
, the government said Tuesday, six months before expected general elections.

The campaign would be to investigate public views on the "Soros plan", and would likely be launched next month, government front man Bence Tuzson told public radio, without giving further details.

Last week a top official in the ruling Fidesz party, Lajos Kosa, said that this "Soros plan" includes Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
accepting a million migrants colonists per year and the demolition of Hungary's anti-migrant border fences.

Prime Minister Viktor Orban has regularly attacked the Hungarian-born Soros in the last year, calling him a "public enemy" for his alleged backing of uncontrolled mass immigration.

A national consultation earlier this year also focused on Soros, seen as a liberal bogeyman by Budapest who funds a raft of civil society groups in central and eastern Europe.

An image of the 87-year-old laughing adorned billboard posters alongside a message urging Hungarians "not to let Soros have the last laugh".

The posters, some of which were daubed with anti-Semitic graffiti, were widely condemned including by Soros himself and Hungary's main Jewish organization, which called them "poisonous".

The drive is the latest of a series of taxpayer-funded "national consultations" by Orban's government comprising questionnaires sent to households and accompanying mass media "public information" campaigns.

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
is steadily losing ground in a small swath of land they control in central Syria amid massive Army advance.

today, the Syrian Army managed to impose full control over al-Moadamiyah town, located to the south-east of Aqirbat; the former ISIS heartland.

According to a military source, the battle for al-Moadamiyah lasted 2 days before the elite troops of the 4th Armored Division ‐ which spearheaded the offensive ‐ completely seize the town.

The source noted that Army troops entered the town last night but couldn’t fortify its positions due to ISIS counteroffensive.

The fall of al-Moadamiyah will further impel the government forces’ push to liberate Soha; a key bastion for the terror group in the pocket. To do so, the Syrian Army attempt to cut off all supply routes to Soha and hunt down as many forces of Evil as possible.

LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
(LeJ) from Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
In a blurb, the CTD said the two men ‐ Muhammad Abdullah Majid and Adnan Ahmad ‐ were involved in sectarian murders and were planning to carry out more attacks during the upcoming month of Muharram.

The two men were tossed in the calaboose
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
during a targeted raid in Bandhani Colony of Liaquatabad near Quba mosque. The CTD also recovered three 9mm pistols, 15 bullets and one cycle of violence from the suspects' custody.

According to CTD SSP Naveed Ahmed Khawaja, the recent rise in the number of murders based on ethnic and sectarian affiliations in the metropolis had pushed the CTD to undertake special search operations in various parts of Karachi.

1 dead in roadside bomb attack in Kirkuk
Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) A civilian was killed in a blast as a bomb, planted by Islamic State, exploded in south of Kirkuk, a security source was quoted saying.

“A bomb from IS remnants exploded while a civilian on board of his bike was passing at a village in Daquq, south of Kirkuk, which caused his immediate death,” the source told AlSumaria News on Tuesday.

The source, who preferred anonymity, added that the blast spot was cordoned by security, while the victim’s body was taken to forensic medicine department.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

A monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI), which excludes security members deaths, said 297 Iraqis, were killed and injured due to violence and armed conflicts during the month of ِAugust. Baghdad was the most affected province with 45 deaths and 135 injuries.

The capital has seen almost daily bombings and armed attacks against security members, paramilitary groups and civilians since the Iraqi government launched a wide-scale campaign to retake IS-occupied areas in 2016. While most of of the explosions and attacks went without a claim of responsibility, Islamic State has claimed several incidents.

Kidnappers kill 3 Herat officials
Three staff members from Herat’s Islam Qala district’s customs department who were kidnapped two months ago were killed on Monday night after their families failed to pay ransom, police said Tuesday.

After shooting the three hostages, in Kohsan district, the kidnappers told local residents to take the bodies of the three customs officials to their families.

The bodies were then taken to Herat’s regional hospital on Tuesday afternoon, police confirmed.

“The employees were between 40 and 50 years old. One of them is from Parwan province and the two others are from Herat,” Mohammad Rafiq Shirzai, a spokesperson for Herat hospital said.

“Kidnappers had killed them near the Bai Mohammad village in Kohsan district very badly. Because they did not have $1 million to pay to the kidnappers,” MP Mohammad Arif Tayyeb said.

Herat police spokesperson Abdul Ahad Walizada said the three employees were killed in Herat’s Kohsan district on Monday night after having been kidnapped while driving from Islam Qala to Herat city two months ago.

According to Walizada, police arrested nine people in connection with the kidnapping and shooting. He said they had planned to carry out a rescue operation but before they could do so, the hostages were killed.

“When they were kidnapped, police immediately took action and we have arrested nine people in relation to this incident. They have confessed that they were involved in this incident and now they are in police detention,” said Walizada.

Herat-Islam Qala road was one of the most secure roads in the province, but recently kidnappings have increased significantly along the road, officials said.

Libyan smuggler says human trafficking will continue despite Italian deal
Unexpectedly.
[TheLocal.it] Correspondents for The Local Italia spoke to a people smuggler in southern Libya who said Italia's plans to pay people not to engage in human trafficking are working. But he expects the lull to be temporary.

Ahmed *Essa’s business, like any other, operates under the basic principles of supply and demand. A 28-year-old Libyan from the minority Toubou ethnic group, Essa smuggles desperate migrants colonists fleeing violence and poverty from Niger to the southern Libyan city of Sabha.

This is the first leg on a commonly-used route toward the Libyan coast, which will enable Essa’s "African brothers" to get closer to their dream destinations in Europe.

Gregg Jarrett: Sessions should resign, but not before taking action against Clinton, Comey and Rice
[FOX] Jeff Sessions should never have accepted the position of Attorney General of the United States. His leadership has proven unproductive and ineffectual.

There are two reasons for this.

First, he deceived President Trump by concealing his intent to recuse himself from the federal investigation into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election. Hours after he was sworn in, Sessions began setting his recusal in motion by meeting with Department of Justice officials to discuss stepping aside from the probe. Failing to disclose such a material matter to the president was an egregious betrayal.

Poll finds California voters consider moving due to sky-high housing costs
[SACBEE] More than half of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, voters say the state’s housing affordability crisis is so bad that they’ve considered moving, and 60 percent of the electorate supports rent control, according to a new statewide poll.

The findings from UC Berkeley’s Institute of Governmental Studies reflect broad concerns Californians have over the soaring cost of living. Amid an unprecedented housing shortage, rents have skyrocketed and tenants have faced mass evictions, especially in desirable areas.

"It’s an extremely serious problem," said poll director Mark DiCamillo. "People are being forced to consider moving because of the rising cost of housing ‐ that’s pretty prevalent all over the state."

Of the 56 percent of voters who said they’ve considered moving, 1 in 4 said they’d relocate out of state if they did.

Tania Khaskheli’s parents appeal for protection for other daughters
[DAWN] DADU: Aggrieved parents of Tania Khaskheli, who was killed by an influential landlord in Jhangara-Bajara town near Sehwan nine days ago, have demanded arrest of all suspects involved in the murder.

They appealed to the Sindh government to provide protection to their other three daughters as the family was receiving threats from the main suspect, Khan Nohani, and his henchmen.

Khurshid Begum, late Tania’s mother, told Dawn on Monday that though the main suspect had reportedly been tossed in the calaboose
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
, still she had a constant fear that he would kill her three other daughters as well after being released from jail.

Eighteen-year-old Tania Khaskheli, a student of class-X, was allegedly killed by Khan Nohani and his henchmen after the girl’s parents turned down his marriage proposal. The culprits barged into the girl’s house on Sept 10 at around 3.30pm and proposed to her but when she and her family refused they attempted to kidnap her but then killed her over stiff resistance from the family and bravely ran away.

Pakistan rejects remarks attributed to PM Abbasi regarding Kabul attack
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Pak government has rejected remarks attributed to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi regarding the deadly attack in Kabul which left more than 150 dead late in May.

The Prime Minister House of Pakistain in a statement said "The remarks are simply baseless and have no reference to discussions with any media person."

The statement further added that the relevant print media should carefully review the contents of discussions before reporting.

Speaking to Financial Times earlier PM Abbasi had said at least three to four people had crossed the border and a vehicle was taken to Kabul for the attack.

The Pak Prime Minister further added that he does not all the details but confirmed that the vehicle was parked in an embassy compound before it exploded on 31st May.

No group including the Taliban

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Pak Prime Minister in an unprecedented statement has confessed that the bombers who blew up a tanker near the German embassy in Kabul late in May, had likely travelled from Pakistain.

PM Abbasi made the remarks during an interview with a UK-based newspaper, The Financial Times.

He said at least three to four people had crossed the border and a vehicle was taken to Kabul for the attack.

The Pak Prime Minister further added that he does not all the details but confirmed that the vehicle was parked in an embassy compound before it exploded on 31st May.

No group including the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
bully boyz has so far grabbed credit behind the attack but the Afghan officials are saying that the Haqqani terrorist network based in Pakistain plotted and carried out the attack although the leader of the network in a voice message said today that the group has no role in the incident.

Over one hundred and fifty people bit the dust in the attack and hundreds more were maimed in the kaboom which is considered as one of the deadliest attacks since the Taliban regime was toppled in 2001.

The foreign ministry of Germany earlier announced that a team of the German experts will visit Kabul to launch an investigation into the incident but no reports have emerged regarding the investigations so far.

Shaman ‘who could control crocs’ couldn't
[THESUN.CO.UK] THIS is the terrifying moment a man who claimed to be able to control crocodiles appears to be dragged under the water by one of the beasts.

The man, Suprianto, was seen paddling in the water before appearing to be pulled down into the water with a splash.

He had been swimming in the river as part of the search for a teen who had disappeared in the body of water the day before, Jakarta local news reported.

He had been chanting mantras as he swam in the water in Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan, an Indonesian province on Saturday.

The body of the Shaman, and that of the missing teen, were found the next day.

Kutai Kartanegara Police Chief Fadillah Zulkarnaen told Detik: "We have recovered the two (bodies) on Sunday.

"The shaman (Suprianto) was found floating in Muara Jawa at 9:40pm. His body is still whole."

He added: "I think he was dragged by a croc under the water and then ran out of oxygen. From the pictures I’ve seen, his body is still intact, his arms and legs are still there."

Priest rescued as Philippine troops retake Marawi mosque
[Reuters] Philippine troops rescued a Catholic priest held captive for almost four months by Maute militants after an offensive that captured a stronghold of the militants in southern Marawi City. Marawi's vicar-general Father Teresito "Chito" Soganub was kidnapped along with other Christians as rebels rampaged through the city on May 23, burning churches and schools, releasing prisoners and seizing arms in a well-planned attack.

Soganub, flanked by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and military chief General Eduardo Ano, appeared to be in good health and high spirits when he was presented to the media in Manila. Lorenzana told a media briefing in Manila, "Our troops gained the upper hand, the terrorists were forced to withdraw to nearby structures on the periphery of the mosque," referring to the Bato mosque held by the rebels for 117 days.

Soganub made an appearance under duress in a propaganda video about a week after his capture, urging the government to stop the military operation in Marawi in exchange for sparing lives of hostages. The priest was among dozens held by rebels at the Bato mosque, which soldiers captured on Saturday afternoon. He was rescued along with another hostage, Lordvin Ocopio.

Military chief Ano said about ten foreigners were still in the battle among some 50-60 militants, who were holding 45-50 hostages.

Baghdad Bomb and Bullet Bulletin
5 die in bombing attack al-Mushahada region

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Five persons were killed and injured in a bomb blast in north of Baghdad, a security source said on Tuesday.

“A bomb exploded near stores in al-Mushahada region in Tarmiyah district, north of Baghdad, leaving a person killed and four others wounded,” the source told Baghdad Today.

Security cordoned off the blast spot, while ambulances transferred the victim to forensic medicine department and the injured to hospital.

Despite the group’s defeat in its main havens across Iraqi provinces, observers believe the group may still constitute a security threat.

Hamas fighter dies in Gaza tunnel incident
[IsraelTimes] Terror group confirms death of a member of its armed wing near Rafah; two others died in tunnel collapses five days ago

A Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", member died in a tunnel incident in the southern Gazoo Strip overnight the Paleostinian terror organization, which controls the territory, said on Tuesday.

This was the third such incident in recent days.

A statement from Hamas’s armed wing the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades named the dead man as 24-year-old Hani Faraj Mohammed Shalouf, from the town of Rafah, located in the southern Gazoo Strip.

Shalouf "met his maker as a martyr while working on a tunnel belonging to the resistance," the statement said, referring to Hamas.

The tunnel in which Shalouf died was located in Rafah on the southern border with Egypt, the statement said.

A statement from the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories Yoav Mordechai said that Shalouf had been electrocuted to death.

The Qassam Brigades published images of the Shalouf on their website.

Cellphone bomb found hidden in passenger luggage by X-ray machine at Mangalore Airport in India
[MIRROR.CO.UK] A cellphone 'bomb' has been discovered hidden inside a mobile phone by staff screening baggage in an X-ray machine at Mangalore Airport in India.

An IndiGo flight from Mangalore to Dubai was delayed this afternoon when a suspicious "clay-like" item was detected by airport scanners.

The discovery sparked a major security scare as Indian media reported a 26-year-old man travelling to Dubai had been placed in durance vile
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
after police were called.

Early reports suggested there was confusion as to whether the device was viable or fake. Sniffer dogs reportedly gave a "mixed signal" if the item was explosive or whether it contained a chemical used to launch a possible gas attack.

Indian media reported a "suspicious clay-like object" was found in the Dubai-bound passenger's mobile phone which was located in his check-in baggage.

But later it was identified as a disguise for a hand-made power pack.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner TS Suresh said: "It was a self-made power bank and after through check it was allowed to proceed," according to Times Now News.

A photograph shows red and yellow electrical wires attached to a small silver object similar to a battery pack with a brown-coloured material keeping items in place.

One theory to emerge is that this was a 'dry run' by a 'terrorist sales rep' or arms dealer who was attempting to show customers how 'easy' it was to get the device onto a plane through security - but failed.

Airline IndiGo tweeted: "IndiGo's alert security screener staff at Mangalore caught a suspect carrying alleged cellphone bomb today.

"The matter has been reported to the local police. Since it is a sensitive security matter we have nothing more to share."

#1  it was identified as a disguise for a hand-made power pack

Why? Why wasn't it simply seized and thrown in the dump bin? One of my 3-ring binders was seized, "because the ring diameter (3") exceeded the allowable length for a metal device". Apparently I could have stabbed someone with a binder ring.

after through check it was allowed to proceed
Wonder how much the check was for?

Saudi Arabia to become a ‘brotherly’ ally of Israel
[ALMASDARNEWS] Earlier this month Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, that there was a "breakthrough" in the Middle East and hailed the Israeli states "best ever" ties with Gulf Arab countries. It now seems that it is not only Netanyahu that believes this to be so, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
are now warming up to idea of Israel as a "brotherly state".
Believe it when you see it.
In May the ’plan for partial normalisation of Israel’ was revealed ‐ and although this was viewed to be nothing more than "just talk" and speculated to be going nowhere ‐ Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have since publicly announced willingness to accept the normalisation of ’the Jewish state of Israel’.

The plan back in May was laid out after Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states requested that they would act to normalise the Israeli state in their publics eyes, if Israel would slow down its settlement expansion.

There was a plan was supposedly drafted in Egypt that stated ‐ according to a Twitter account that is reporting from within the Saudi Royal family ‐ that, the Gulf Arab states and Egypt aim to "distance any political, cultural, educational, financial, religious effect on the people of Egypt and the Gulf States in order to reach a state of full and eternal normalisation with Israel."

Since then the King of Bahrain ’Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifah’ has stated that other Arab states have to be "kinder to Israel" and the Saudi Prince Mohammed Bin Salman has reportedly backed plans to accept Israel as a "brotherly state".

Syrian forces shatter main ISIS defense line in central Syria, advance on large town
[ALMASDARNEWS] After liberating dozens of towns from ISIS throughout central Syria over the last fortnight, pro-government forces are now in a position to strike at one of the largest remaining jihadist strongholds in the region.

Today, Syrian forces secured the settlements of al-Shalishat, Um Ten and al-Nabtiyah located near the Shumarriyah Mountain Chain in north-central Homs Governorate.

In liberating al-Shalishat, Syrian Army troops became involved in a noteworthy battle against the Islamic State

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, ultimately killing and wounding at least a dozen ISIS Death Eaters over the course of the engagement and shelling those that retreated from the town.

By this advance, pro-government forces have secured almost every settlement in the area around the strategic town of Jibb al-Jarrah which is, following Uqayribat’s recent liberation, one of the most important ISIS strongholds left in central Syria.

Maliki: We will not allow the establishment of another Israel in northern Iraq
[ALMASDARNEWS] Kurdistan Region’s parliament has fired back at Iraqi Vice President Nouri al-Maliki after remarks he made on Israeli support of the region’s planned referendum on independence from Iraq.

Following a meeting with U.S. ambassador to Baghdad, Douglas A. Silliman, Maliki said in a statement that the referendum, slated for September 25th has to be "cancelled or postponed for being unconstitutional," adding that the controversial vote does not serve Iraqis’ or Kurds’ interests.

"We will not allow the establishment of another Israel in northern Iraq," he said in the statement. He was presumably alluding to Tel Aviv’s open, official support for the anticipated poll.
More likely he was alluding to the fact that Kurdistan wouldn't be an Arab state.
Reacting to the statements, Kurdish parliament’s deputy speaker Jaafar Imniki said in a statement that Maliki’s remarks "come from a unique dictator who is the source of all atrocities and tragedies that had befallen Iraqis," as he put it.

Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu had said his country had a "positive attitude" towards Kurds’ secession plans.

Maliki has been a vocal opponent to the referendum.

Europe
Finland’s Welfare State Has a Massive Baby Problem
[BLOOMBERG] You know you've got a problem when even the best don't have the solution.

Finland, a first-rate place in which to be a mother, has registered the lowest number of newborns in nearly 150 years. The birth rate has been falling steadily since the start of the decade, and there's little to suggest a reversal in the trend.

Demographics are a concern across the developed world, of course. But they are particularly problematic for countries with a generous welfare state, since they endanger its long-term survival.

For Heidi Schauman, the statistics are "frightening."

"They show how fast our society is changing, and we don't have solutions ready to stop the development," the Aktia Bank chief economist said in a telephone interview in Helsinki. "We have a large public sector and the system needs taxpayers in the future."

To do that, the fertility rate should equal two per woman, Schauman says. It was projected at 1.57 in 2016, according to Statistics Finland.

That's a surprisingly low level, given the efforts made by the state to support parenthood.

Perhaps nothing illustrates those better than Finland's famous baby-boxes. Introduced in 1937, containers full of baby clothes and care products are delivered to expectant mothers, with the cardboard boxes doubling up as a makeshift cot. The idea behind the maternity packages was prompted by concerns over high infant mortality rates in low-income families. The starter kits were eventually extended to all families.

Offering generous parental leave and one of the best education system in the world doesn't seem to be working either. According to the OECD, Finland already has the lowest ratio of youths to the working-age population in the Nordics.

There's a simple, time-proven solution to that problem: import large numbers of Muslims from failed third-world shitholes. They breed like rats and will generate lots of tax revenue to support the continuance of the welfare state.

There are some downsides (random explosions and whatnot), but no matter.

IDF Patriot intercepts apparent Hezbollah drone from Syria
[IsraelTimes] Army says it 'will not allow' Iran and its allies near the Golan Heights to violate Israeli illusory sovereignty.

The Israeli Air Force shot down an Iranian-built drone launched by the Hezbollah terrorist organization with a Patriot missile after it attempted to cross into Israeli airspace on Tuesday, the army said.

The military also scrambled fighter jets to the area, but ultimately did not need to use them as the interceptor missile was able to destroy the target.

After the drone breached the “Bravo line” that marks the Syrian border and entered the demilitarized zone — but not Israeli airspace — the IDF “decided to intercept it,” army spokesperson Lt. Col. Yonatan Conricus said.

In a statement, the IDF said it “will not allow any infiltration or approach toward the Golan Heights area by terrorist figures from Iranian forces, Hezbollah, Shiite militias or Islamic Jihad.”

Speaking to reporters, Conricus added that Israel “will respond swiftly and forcefully against any such attempts.”

However, he said the IDF was “not looking to escalate” the situation by retaliating “at this time.”

According to Conricus, the air force monitored the unmanned aerial vehicle from its take-off at Damascus airport to the demilitarized zone that separates the Israeli and Syrian Golan Heights.

“We monitor everything that flies toward the State of Israel and follow it closely for any potential threat,” he said.

Conricus said Military Intelligence was able to identify the drone as Iranian-built and Hezbollah-launched based on the army’s arrays of sensors in the area and its years of experience monitoring the group.

The spokesperson said the drone appeared to be performing reconnaissance mission in the area. It was not immediately clear if the drone was armed.

The debris from the drone landed near the Syrian city of Quneitra so the IDF was not able to recover it, he said.

He would not comment on whether the IDF was in contact about the incident with Russian forces in the region, with which Israel has a communication mechanism in place to avoid friction.

The Patriot interceptor missile was launched from a military installation in northern Israel, near the city of Safed.

Terminology glitch: Contradicting IDF, US says it didn’t establish military base in Israel
[IsraelTimes] On its website, Israeli military scrambles to change all mentions of American 'base' to say 'facility,' but insists it's still a first

The American military on Tuesday denied a claim made by the Israel Defense Forces that the United States had established its first base in Israel, saying the new buildings were instead a "living facility."

On Monday, the Israeli Air Force declared that the US military’s European Command (EUCOM) had opened a "base within a base" at the IDF’s air defense school, west of the towns of Dimona and Yeruham in southern Israel.

"We established an American base in the State of Israel, in the Israel Defense Forces, for the first time, with an American flag. A permanent base," Brig. Gen. Tzvika Haimovitch, head of the IAF’s Aerial Defense Command, told news hounds.

However,
the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything...
an official from EUCOM contradicted that account.

"As part of the United States’ continued commitment to Israel, on September 18, big shots from the US military participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony... to commemorate the opening of a new building on an Israeli Air Force base," said Meghan Henderson, deputy director of EUCOM’s Media Operations Division.

"The new buildings located on the Israeli installation are not a US military base," she said. "The buildings are facilities on the existing Israeli Air Force Base to support our US service personnel who are working there."

The message was passed along to the IDF, which quickly changed all mentions on its website of a "US military base" to read "US military facility."

An Israeli army official confirmed that the Americans had contacted the IDF and requested the change in terminology, as a base carries with it a number of legal distinctions and can only be applied to facilities of a certain size.

The Israeli official said the rest of the information about the site and its significance remained the same.

Iraqi regulars launch new offensive in western Anbar

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi joint troops have started on Tuesday an offensive to liberate Islamic State’s havens in west of Anbar, the military media said.

Al-Jazeera troops, backed by the Tribal Mobilization Forces launched wide-scale campaign to liberate al-Rayhana region as well as Annah town from IS, according to the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell.

Meanwhile, Alghad Press reported that the militant group prevented civilians from fleeing toward the western side of the town, forcing them to stay at homes. However, the website’s correspondent said the troops are cautious in order not to harm civilians.

Moreover, a security source was quoted saying that the militants “completely evacuated Rayhana. Army forces started purging the road leading to Annah from planted landmines.”

“Troops are advancing toward Rayhana amid heavy shelling and air raids by the U.S.-led Coalition,” the source said.

Iraqi joint troops managed earlier this week to liberate Akashat region, between Rutba town, on borders with Jordan, and Qaim, on borders with Syria.

Anbar’s western towns of Anah, Qaim and Rawa are still held by the extremist group since 2014, when it occupied one third of Iraq to proclaim a self-styled Islamic Caliphate. Iraqi troops were able to return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them.

Fighter jets from the Iraqi army and the international coalition regularly pound IS locations in the province.

Iraqi troops capture Rayhana district

Annah (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi Army/ Iraqi government troops and paramilitary forces managed Tuesday to recapture the first area as part of an operation targeting Islamic State-held towns in western Anbar, a local official said.

Abdul-Karim al-Aani, chairman of Annah town’s council, told Alsumaria News that army and police troops, backed by Popular Mobilization Forces, took over Rayhana region, east of Annah, and raised Iraqi flags above its buildings.

He said a number of Islamic State militants were killed, while a booby-trapped vehicle belonging to them was detonated.

Iraqi Army
Earlier on Tuesday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared the launch of an operation to clear Islamic State havens in western Anbar, starting with the town of Annah. He promised “a new victory”, adding that IS “will not reap but a humiliating defeat and death”.

Iraqi troops smoke 20 ISIS Bad Guys

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) More than twenty Islamic State militants were killed within offensives launched in the group’s holdout in western Anbar, military media reported on Tuesday.

In a press release, the War Media Cell said on Tuesday that “the most important outcome of liberation of al-Rayhana and Annah was the murder of twenty-two militants as well as destruction of weapon stash and four booby-trapped vehicles.”

Iraqi government troops and paramilitary forces managed Tuesday to recapture Rayhana region as part of an operation, launched earlier on the day, targeting the region as well as Annah town, in western Anbar.

I've come to think of those arrests as people picked up to assist the police in their inquiries, status to be determined later. I find it interesting that only the Syrian is named with photos and background -- usually we have a lot more information five days after an attack.

UN's Antonio Guterres warns against North Korea war
[Al Jazeera] UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned world leaders against war with North Korea, calling on them to take the threat of "nuclear peril" seriously.

"We must not sleepwalk our way into war," said Guterres on Tuesday at the annual summit of the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

"When tensions rise, so does the chance of miscalculation. Fiery talk can lead to fatal misunderstandings," he said in his first state-of-the-world report since taking the top job at the UN on January 1.

"The solution must be political. This is a time for statesmanship."

His message on "fiery
...a single two-syllable word carrying connotations of both incoherence and viciousness. A fiery delivery implies an audience of rubes and yokels, preferably forming up into a mob...
" rhetoric was implicitly directed at North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
, but also at the United States and President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, who later warned of "totally destroying North Korea" if it does not back down.

"The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea," Trump told the UNGA, shortly after Guterres' speech.

Shin Bet busts East Jerusalem terror cell planning shooting attacks
[IsraelTimes] Eight members of group, all Israeli residents, also suspected of Molotov cocktailings and stone-throwing

The Shin Bet general security service said Tuesday that it had tossed in the calaboose
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
eight East Jerusalem residents who formed a terror cell that carried out several Molotov cocktailings and other attacks in the capital and was planning shootings.

Most of the suspects came from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan, and all are residents of Israel. The group liked to call itself the "Ghosts of Silwan," the Shin Bet said in a statement.

Group leader Mahmad Farouach, 19, a resident of Silwan, reached out to contacts in Leb and the Gazoo Strip seeking to work under their auspices and obtain funding for the cell’s intended attacks, according to the Shin Bet.

The Shin Bet named the other suspects as Amir Faruach, 19, Saud Alian, 18, Mahmad Abu Tayiah 19, Amjad Shwachi, 19, Ali Abasi, 19, all from Silwan, and Ahmad Abu Halif, 18, from the Abu Tur neighborhood near Silwan.

Information gleaned from questioning enabled Sherlocks to piece together much about the cell’s activities. The suspects allegedly planned to shoot at Israeli targets in Silwan, including vehicles belonging to Israeli residents and Jewish homes in the neighborhood. The cell had plans to obtain the weapons needed to carry out the attacks.

Paleostinians have decried the influx of Jewish Israelis into Silwan, accusing them of seeking to push them out of their own neighborhood.

Group leader Mahmad Farouach, 19, a resident of Silwan, reached out to contacts in Leb and the Gazoo Strip seeking to work under their auspices and obtain funding for the cell’s intended attacks, according to the Shin Bet.
Cell members were involved in recent attacks in the area of Silwan, including the throwing of Molotov cocktails, firecrackers and stones at security forces and security vehicles. In an August 6 attack, some of the suspects poured flammable liquid onto a police patrol car and then threw Molotov cocktails at it. The car was consumed by flames and destroyed.

Another suspect, not named in the statement and also from Silwan, was a minor at the time of his arrest. During questioning Sherlocks discovered that he was involved in planning a shooting attack and involved in an arson attack on a security patrol car as well as other Molotov cocktailing attacks.

Indictments against the suspects are to be filed Wednesday in the Jerusalem district court, the Shin Bet said.

"The results of the investigation reflect a step up in the nature of terror activities in the field, among other things under the influence of the violent incidents around the Temple Mount, after the June attack there," the Shin Bet said.

In the July 14 attack three Arab Israelis shot and killed two Israeli coppers outside the Temple Mount in Jerusalem with guns they had smuggled into the holy site.

Following the attack, Israel set up metal detectors at the entrances to the holy site, which Moslem leaders condemned as a violation of the status quo, sparking a series of violent protests in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

The crisis was contained when Israeli authorities removed the newly installed measures amid heavy pressure from Jordan, the custodian of the Temple Mount, and the Paleostinians.

The uptick in terror incidents have been marked by an increase in stone throwing, Molotov cocktails and shooting attacks, the Shin Bet statement noted.

Earlier this month Shin Bet chief Nadav Argaman told cabinet ministers that in July and August his agency prevented approximately 70 terror attacks. He added that since the beginning of the year, his agency has thwarted some 200 terror attacks, including suicide kabooms, shootings and kidnappings.

'Tensions to rise' after Trump's North Korea comments
[Al Jazeera] US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's highly-combative remarks against North Korea and its leader at the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
will only harden Pyongyang's resolve to continue developing its nuclear programme, analysts have warned.

Using what was described as "unprecedented" language, Trump made his debut address at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday.

In a wide-ranging, 45-minute speech, his most anticipated foreign policy address of his tenure, Trump vowed that the US would "totally destroy" North Korea if it is forced to defend itself or its allies.

He also mocked Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
, North Korea's leader, saying: "'Rocket Man' is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime. The United States is ready, willing and able, but hopefully this will not be necessary."

The sharp escalation in rhetoric came weeks after Trump warned that North Korea will be met with "fire and fury like the world had never seen" if it continues expanding its nuclear programme.

"I expected him to talk tough and strong - but I did not expect him to talk quite that tough and quite that strongly," said Donald Kirk, a journalist and author of several books on Korea.

He said Trump's remarks made the prospect of negotiations extremely unlikely.

North Koreans are not going to back down - if anything they are going to increase the tempo of their programme," Kirk told Al Jazeera from South Korea's capital, Seoul. "I think we can forget about North Korea saying, 'let's go to negotiations.'"

#2  When Bill Clinton Threatened to ‘End’ North Korea

Excerpt: It was July 1993, and Hillary’s husband, a mere half year into his presidency, was dealing with little Kim’s little grand-pappy, another Marxist madman, the progenitor of this communist-totalitarian hereditary dictatorship. On July 9, 1993, as the Washington Post reported at the time, Bill Clinton, amid a major swing through Asia, told the media the following of U.S. policy toward North Korea under his administration: “We would overwhelmingly retaliate if [the North Koreans] were to ever use, to develop and use nuclear weapons. It would mean the end of their country as they know it.”

For the record, he also added, “North Korea is just one of many renegade nations that would like to have nuclear weapons and be unaccountable for them, and we can’t let it happen.”

Well, it did happen. And presidents like Donald Trump are today left to deal with the failures of presidents like Bill Clinton (and his bipartisan successors) who couldn’t stop it from happening.

Clinton’s comments were widely covered at the time, including by the New York Times, which reported: “On his weekend visit to South Korea, President Clinton warned that if North Korea developed and used an atomic weapon, ‘we would quickly and overwhelmingly retaliate.’” He said, “It would mean the end of their country as they know it.”

To repeat: the end of their country as they know it.

Hamas invites Palestinian President Abbas to resume control of Gaza
[DAWN] Hamas has invited Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to send officials to Gaza to resume control of the coastal enclave seized by the Islamist group a decade ago.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh made the announcement Tuesday, saying his group is serious about returning power to the Western-backed Palestinian leader and calling on him to respond with practical steps.

Hamas, in financial and political distress after years of an Israeli-Egyptian blockade, this week announced it was disbanding a contentious committee that has governed Gaza in recent months, a key Abbas demand.

It also said it was ready to hand over all government functions to Abbas and to hold elections in Gaza and the West Bank.

Major Hurricane Maria to lash Puerto Rico with life-threatening flooding, damaging winds
[ACCUWEATHER] Major Hurricane Maria will continue to rip a path of destruction over the islands of the northeastern Caribbean Sea into midweek.

Maria will threaten lives and cause devastation in areas hit and missed by Irma's worst less than two weeks earlier.

According to Dr. Joel N. Myers, founder, president and chairman of AccuWeather, "There is no comparison between what Puerto Rico got before with Irma and what it will get this time with Maria. This is a disaster in the making. All parties in Puerto Rico and the nearby islands need to know how serious this threat is. The damage done by wind gusts from the last storm (Irma) of 50 to 60 mph will pale in comparison to winds that may reach 140 from Hurricane Maria."

"It is possible that parts of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands may become uninhabitable for weeks or longer due to the destruction that Maria will cause," Myers said.

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi Edition

ISIS executes 1 in Salahuddin

Salahuddin (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State executed the group’s guide in east of Salahuddin province, a local source said on Tuesday.

“Abu Ikrima al-Iraqi, an old IS fighter in Mutaibija, east of Salahuddin, was shot dead by the group near one of the rest houses,” the source told AlSumaria News.

Iraqi, according to the source, “is originally from Mutaibija. He used to be one of the group’s main guides for convoys coming toward Mutaibija especially from Hawija. The reasons behind his execution are still unknown.”

Occasional attacks have been witnessed in Mutaibija by Islamic State against government and paramilitary troops deployments since Iraqi forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and PMUs, launched a major offensive to retake areas occupied by IS since 2014.

Last week, Jaafar al-Battat, the service’s chief of staff of the Federal Police, said in remarks that troops completed their mobilizations and are awaiting orders from the supreme commander of the armed forces to move towards Shirqat, the group’s haven located north of the province.

Pivotal regions that link between each of Diyala, Salahuddin and Kirkuk, are still held by the militants which poses threats to the liberated regions. Iraqi troops are urged to prevent the militants infiltration between Salahuddin and Kirkuk provinces, especially the regions stretching along Hamreen mountains and Al-Azeem town.

It’s expected that the Iraqi government will head towards liberating other IS strongholds across Iraq, including in Salahuddin.

ISIS worried about tuberculosis outbreak in Hawija

Hawija (IraqiNews.com) ISIS News Today: Islamic State militants have been alarmed by an outbreak of tuberculosis in their Kirkuk stronghold, with some members executed to curb the disease, according to an intelligence source.

Sky Press, an Iraqi website, quoted the source saying that the group had quarantined and executed 12 of its members in the town of Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk, after they had been proved positive with the infection.

The militants were so eager to maintain secrecy around the development that they had executed a doctor who unveiled the nature of the infection to the affected members, according too the source who added that a similar punishment was set for any future whistleblowers.

Islamic State militants have held Hawija since 2014, when they proclaimed an “Islamic caliphate” in large parts of Iraq and Syria.

The Iraqi Joint Operations Command, which has led military action against IS since 2014, said in August it had completed preparations to invade the town and eliminate IS fighters.

So far, Iraqi government operations, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary troops, have managed to recapture Mosul, Islamic State’s former capital, and the town of Tal Afar, west of Mosul.

SURPRISE! O'Reilly Accuser Arrested... in 2015
[TheBlackSphere] Months after his show was cancelled, it seems the credibility of at least one O’Reilly accuser is now being questioned.
...
Burgess was quick to jump on the O’Reilly bandwagon. She claims Bill called her "hot chocolate." Furthermore, we’re supposed to believe she was offended by his statement.

Burgess only worked for Fox News for a few weeks in 2008 as a secretarial temp. She even lied about that, claiming it was 6 months. Burgess didn’t have any other claim to fame. Oddly enough, Burgess never bothered to make a sexual harassment claim until the New York Times reported that five other women managed to reach 7 figure settlements. Of course, those settlements were more than a decade old. They were handled in a time when maybe it was just easier to pay out than it was to deal with publicity.

Yet, once Burgess heard about these old lawsuits, she decided to add to the claims. Her allegations played a significant role in Fox News’ decision to terminate O’Reilly. So you can bet the farm, O’Reilly is fired up to find out this woman is about as honest as a tele-evangelist.

From day 1, O’Reilly has denied ever having a conversation with Burgess. In fact, he said he didn’t even know who she was. "So when it came out, it was stunning." O’Reilly said.

As Newsmax learned:

A Detroit Police report dated Feb. 11, 2015, documents Burgess’s arrest on charges of making a false report and obstructing a court order.

According to the police document, Burgess called authorities and alleged her boyfriend had struck her in the face with a gun. Police said when they arrived at the scene Burgess "appeared intoxicated."

The arresting officer stated: "I asked Ms. Burgess where the gun was that she was struck with in the face, she replied there is no gun. I again asked her where the gun was, and if she had been assaulted. Ms. Burgess stated there was no gun, and he didn’t assault me!"

The boyfriend told police she had threatened him, saying she would call "the cops saying you hit me with a gun!"

According to the police document, Burgess was arrested for filing a false felony report and for violating a personal protection order.

In a statement provided to Newsmax, Lisa Bloom, Burgess’s attorney, acknowledges the police report involving her client, but states that Burgess and her former boyfriend "both believe the charges were based on a misunderstanding and were not pursued by the police or prosecutors."

In another document, a social media user thought to be Burgess tweeted on Nov. 24, 2012: "... up until 10 years ago Laurence Fishburne could get every oz. of my hot chocolate."

Addressing that tweet, Bloom stated: "Ms. Burgess has used many terms to refer to herself, including on occasion ’bitch’ and the N word. That does not give others ‐ especially her superiors in her workplace ‐ permission to use offensive language about her."

Republicans' last push to roll back Obamacare gains strength
[LATIMES] A last-ditch Republican push to roll back the Affordable Care Act appeared to pick up momentum Monday even as opposition from leading patient advocates and healthcare organizations mounted, setting the stage for another potentially dramatic Senate vote on the future of the 2010 law, often called Obamacare
... aka the Affordable Care Act, an ineptly designed and worse executed piece of legislation designed to bring 17 percent of the U.S. economy under the direct control of the government. The previous iteration, known as Hillarycare, was laughed out of Washington. This stinker was passed on a party-line vote without being read...
Prospects for the new repeal legislation ‐ sponsored by Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) and Lindsey Graham
... the endangered South Carolina RINO...
That raised the possibility that the state’s senior senator, John Maverick McCain
... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution. As an ordinary citizen he greased the infamous hookers peeing on the Obamabed in Moscow dossier in an attempt to smear President Trump...
, who cast the crucial vote in July to kill the last repeal push, could back the new bill. McCain has said he would be influenced by Ducey’s position, but has also called for a less partisan, less rushed approach to healthcare legislation.

On Monday afternoon, the Republican senator said he remained undecided. "I’m not supportive of the bill yet," he told news hounds, explaining that he would prefer healthcare legislation go through the normal committee process.

Supporters of the Graham-Cassidy measure aim to bring it to the Senate floor next week, just days ahead of the expiration of special rules that could allow it to pass with 50 votes, rather than the 60 that major measures typically require.

That has prompted leading patient and medical groups to intensify warnings that the Graham-Cassidy proposal could devastate coverage for tens of millions of vulnerable Americans.

Syrian special forces totally crush jihadist offensive in north Hama
[ALMASDARNEWS] Syrian special forces, in support of standard Syrian Army units, have repelled a huge assault by jihadist rebels ‐ some of them linked to al-Qaeda ‐ in northern Hama Governorate today.

Early this morning, jihadist snuffies of Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham (Al-Qaeda affiliate) and the Turkistan Islamic Party launched a powerful offensive against the Syrian Army positions in northern Hama.

The murderous Moslems employed battle tanks, artillery and cannon-armed gun-trucks in an attempt to break government lines near the fortress town of Ma’an, a key army defense nexus in the region.

In the event, two particular Syrian Army elite detachments, the al-Sahabat Regiment of the Tigers Forces and the al-Komeet Group, were present near Ma’an.

According to reports, both formations, fighting side by side, played a critical role in rebuffing today’s jihadist onslaught at the gates of Ma’an. The two units also turned back threatening Lion of Islam attacks in the area of Zaghbat Tulisiyah.

The special forces detachments repelled two separate attack waves that where launched on Ma’an by Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham and Turkistan Islamic Party terrorists.

As of the present time, the front-lines around northern Hama have settled down with army forces and Lion of Islam groups now just trading artillery fire. Whether or not jihadist fighters renew their assault in the hours to come is yet to be seen.

8-year-old Cahokia football team kneels during anthem ahead of recent game
[FOX] BELLEVILLE, Ill. ‐ Every player on the Cahokia Quarterback Club football team (8 and under) took a knee during the national anthem ahead of Sunday’s game at Little Devil’s Field in Belleville.

"One of the kids asked me if I saw (people) protesting and rioting in St. Louis. I said yes; I said, ’Do you know why they are doing it?'" said Coach Orlando Gooden.

Coach Gooden said his player responded, "Because black people are getting killed and nobody's going to jail."

Gooden, who played football at Mizzou, said the kids knew about the Jason Stockley decision.

"I felt like it was a good teaching moment for me to circle the team and have a meeting," he said.

The coach said he spoke to them about that and other situations that have happened in our country. He then explained why former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick started kneeling during the anthem.

"One of the kids asked, ’Can we do that?’ I said, ’As long as we know why we're doing it, I don’t have a problem with any of it.’"

When the anthem started, the Cahokia third graders immediately took a knee where they were standing. Their backs were away from the flag‐but not on purpose‐according to Gooden.

"What I teach my kids is love, integrity, honesty, fairness, respect and boundaries," he said.

All the parents on the team supported the coach’s decision to take a knee. However, a Facebook post by Gooden’s wife was met with some backlash.

"As long as I have support of my parents and team, I’m perfectly fine, and I'm covered under the First Amendment to peacefully protest and assemble," Gooden said.

Witness says Menendez had access to Dominican paradise at resort
[NYPOST] Robert Menendez’s stays at the luxurious Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic gave him access to white-sand beaches, a marina filled with expensive yachts and five golf courses, a resort executive testified Monday at the New Jersey senator’s corruption trial.

The seven-acre gated community on the Caribbean Sea also boasts the top-rated golf course in the Dominican Republic, six international restaurants, a security staff of 800, and access to elite sports like pheasant shooting, Andres Pichardo Rosenberg, the resort’s president, told a Newark federal jury.

"We import the eggs and cultivate them," Rosenberg explained when the judge asked, somewhat incredulously, if there are pheasants in the island nation.

"You cultivate the eggs to shoot them?" the judge said in disbelief.

Rosenberg was called to the witness stand by Department of Justice prosecutors looking to prove that Menendez’s access to the resort was a bribe provided to him by his rich opthalmologist pal, Dr. Salomon Melgen, who owns a home in Casa de Campo.

Melgen, who bought the house for close to half a million in the 1990s, has denied that the home was a bribe, describing it as a modest getaway for the doctor and his close friends and family.

But Rosenberg painted a picture of a tropical paradise with private white-sand beaches, shuttle service to a nearby island, access to a spa and a 240-room hotel for guests.

He said there are 1,850 private houses on the resort ‐ some of which cost over $10 million. Rosenberg estimated that homes in Melgen’s neighborhood are worth up to $2.5 million.

Why Trump’s UN Speech Was a Triumph, and other commentary
[AMGREATNESS] Donald Trump on Tuesday confirmed yet again why he is the most robust president since Ronald Reagan. Following up on his brilliant speeches before a joint session of Congress in February, his speech about combating Islamic terrorism before Arab leaders in Saudi Arabia, and his splendid defense of Western civilizational values in Warsaw a few months ago, Trump addressed the United Nations and articulated for the 150 delegates at that ostentatiously corrupt institution the signal lesson of successful international relations: that freedom within nations, and comity among them, is best served not by the effacement or attenuation of national sovereignty but its frank and manly embrace.

“Sovereignty,” indeed, was the master word of Trump’s address. The word and its cognates occur 21 times in the 4,300-word talk, centrally in conjunction with the core Trumpian ideal of “principled realism.”

“We are guided,” Trump explained, “by outcomes, not ideology. We have a policy of principled realism, rooted in shared goals, interests, and values.”

The United Nations has in recent decades become a poster child for bureaucratic despond: corrupt, wasteful, and inefficient. It has also evolved into a megaphone for anti-American, left-wing sentiment, often hiding behind utopian world-government rhetoric.

Bolton Praises Trump's UN Speech as Best of His Presidency

[Townhall] Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton praised President Trump’s speech at the U.N. General Assembly Tuesday as the best of his presidency.

Trump’s "speech was his best yet as President. He was clear & direct in his criticisms of #NorthKorea & #Iran," he tweeted.

"In the entire history of the UN, there has never been a more straight forward criticism of the unacceptable behavior of other member states," he added. "@POTUS’s UN speech showed that he will not live with the half measures and compromises w/ #NorthKorea that have failed for the past 25 yrs."

Speaking of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, Trump said he’s on a "suicide mission."

"No nation on earth has an interest in seeing this band of criminals arm itself with nuclear weapons and missiles. The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea. Rocket man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime. The United States is ready, willing and able, but hopefully this will not be necessary," he said.

[SA People News] Trump said North Korea’s Kim Jong ‐ whom he called ’Rocket Man’ ‐ is on a "suicide mission for himself and his regime" and that if forced to defend itself for its allies, America would "totally destroy North Korea". He said Jong "threatens the entire world with unthinkable loss of life".

He also took a hard line against Iran (a "rogue nation") and its nuclear deal, and then said the US will probably have to intervene in Venezuela following President Nicolas Maduro’s recent election to create a "constituent assembly" that limits the powers of the elected national assembly.

Maduro has already responded, calling Trump "the new Hitler".

The Zimbabwean representatives were featured on CNN when Trump was complaining that despite there being over 100 countries in the UN, the US pays 22% of the budget. At that point the camera zoomed in on the Zimbabwe corner (we’re not sure if it was intentional!)... who were not looking too impressed!

Trump said "major portions of the world are in conflict and some, in fact, are going to hell".

He also vowed to take down "loser terrorists", and reiterated that its America first... although reminded the other leaders that "you will always, and should always put your countries first".

PPP MPA booked for alleged assault of Karachi corps commander's protocol
[DAWN] Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
police on Tuesday started the paperwork but haven't done much else against PPP MPA Tariq Masood Arain and more than 12 armed guards over charges of attempted murder as the politician's guards allegedly assaulted a security squad protecting the family of Corps Commander Karachi Lt-Gen Shahid Baig Mirza.

A first information report (FIR), registered on complaint of army Havaldaar Fahimullah Jan with Darakhshan Police, claimed the complainant and his colleagues were on duty when four men in a car tried to obstruct the VIP protocol of the corps commander's family, upon which they were instructed to stop and check the vehicle.

The obstructing vehicle was intercepted near Saba Avenue, and the four men inside were asked to produce their CNICs, which they failed to produce, the FIR claimed.

Meanwhile,
...back at the wrecked scow, a single surviver held tightly to the smashed prow...
two boys later identified as Moon and Asad made telephonic contact with a person named Tariq, who immediately sent two vehicles with 15 to 18 gunnies carrying sub-machine guns (SMGs), the complainant alleged.

One person, later identified as Manzoor, who arrived with the gunnies in a Land Cruiser threatened and beat up members of the VIP security squad. Their accomplice, later identified as Jehangir, and others assaulted sepoys Arif, Ali Jan and the complainant, according to the FIR.

Moon and Asad also beat them up and snatched two official SMGs and two magazines, the complainant alleged, adding that he and two other members of the security squad were maimed and treated at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Complex where a medico-legal examination was carried out.

The complainant claimed they were beaten at the behest of Tariq Masood Arain, an elected MPA from Shaheed Benazirabad currently serving his third term as a member of the provincial assembly.

Trump's NASA nominee is willing to study climate change . . . with one caveat
[Yahoo.com/finance] Good news: NASA's administrator nominee is fine with studying climate change! Just not Earth's climate change. In answers to a Senate questionnaire, Rep. Jim Bridenstine says it's important to understand why Mars changed so dramatically, losing its magnetic field and oceans to become the barren world it is today. If we know more about the Red Planet, he argues, we could "inform our understanding of Earth." There's a degree of truth to this, but history and Bridenstine's actions suggest it could be about diverting attention away from climate change issues on our homeworld.

As Scientific American
...when I was a child, SA was a reputable general science journal, suitable for scientists wanting to keep track of major developments in fields other than their own. But it's been a long time since I was a child...
explains, climate science deniers have regularly tried to use Mars' changes as an explanation for patterns here on Earth. Mars saw a dramatic shift through strictly natural causes, so humanity can't be responsible for what's happening back home, can it? The problem, of course, is that Mars' changes likely occurred over billions of years. The increase in carbon emissions on Earth (and the resulting increase in temperature) on Earth has taken mere decades, aligning roughly with the rise of industry and fossil fuels. Bridenstine's willingness to study Mars' climate, but reluctance to study Earth's, suggests that he might be looking to other planets as justification for inaction on climate issues.

That's not helped by Bridenstine's own history. When he was a new politician, he asked President Obama to apologize for allegedly wasting money on climate research. He blamed the Sun for climate shifts and falsely claimed that temperatures had stopped rising. As recently as the start of 2017, Bridenstine had floated the idea of removing Earth science from NASA's scope and assigning it to another agency -- as if Earth science isn't inherently connected to NASA's studies.

There are signs that he may be changing his mind, if slightly. He writes in the questionnaire that NASA should still "advance both Earth science and planetary science," and that it's not right when these camps have to battle each other to get funding. The question is whether or not Bridenstine will let NASA study the full range of Earth science if he's approved in the coming weeks. Given his past and a White House that bristles at the mere mention of climate change, it won't be surprising if he's hesitant to support any science that contradicts the administration's agenda.

Iran’s ‘father of all bombs’ sends strong signal to Israel, Gulf states
[ALMASDARNEWS] Iran’s reported creation of the "father of all bombs" should be seen as a message to Israel and the Persian Gulf States, Russian military expert Vladimir Korovin told Sputnik, expressing doubt that Tehran would use its 10-ton conventional aviation bomb against the US.

By announcing about the creation of a 10-ton non-nuclear aviation bomb, Iran has sent a strong signal to Israel and Tehran’s other potential adversaries in the Middle Eastern region, Vladimir Korovin, an expert at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations’ Center for Military and Political Studies, told Sputnik.

"Israel is deeply worried about the fact that Iran is edging closer to its border in Syria," Korovin said, "Perhaps, this statement is addressed to Israel and Iran’s other counterparts [in the region]."

The military analyst expressed confidence that Iran is not going to use the bomb against the United States. However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
Israel, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain are the main addressees of Tehran’s "message," according to Korovin.

On Saturday, Iran’s state news agency FARS reported citing a top Iranian Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) commander, Ali Hajizadeh, that Tehran had developed a massive non-nuclear munition comparable to the US’s GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) also known as the "Mother of All Bombs."

Describing the new bomb Hajizadeh specified that it could be launched from "Ilyushin aircraft" and dubbed it "the father of all bombs" in a reference to America’s most powerful conventional ordnance.

Family gunned down in Faryab
A Faryab man along with his eight-year-old son and six-year-old daughter were shot dead in Qaisar district on Tuesday afternoon by armed men allegedly linked to the district governor, police said.

Faryab police chief General Dilawar Shah Delawar told TOLOnews the incident happened on Tuesday afternoon when the father and his two children were returning to their village from the district center.

Delawar said the suspects fall under the local police structure and work for the Qaisar district governor.

The family of the deceased carried the bodies to the Faryab local government building and called for a full investigation into the case.

The family members also said the Qaisar district governor's men had killed the father and his two children.

But the Qaisar district governor, Rahmatullah Qaisari, rejected the claims and said the armed men work for the Qaisar district police chief Nizamuddin Qaisari.

Nizamuddin Qaisari however also rejected the claim and said the men do not work for him.

Remember When James Clapper Categorically Denied Any Wiretap Against Trump Campaign?
[MEDIAITE] Now we learn that there was, in fact, a FISA court order and it came from the FBI and Clapper, in his own words, claimed he would have known about that. And he denied it, unequivocally. Maybe he forgot all about the FISA order wiretapping Paul Manafort while he was in direct contact with Trump in his campaign and after the election.

Clapper also “forgot” that the NSA had a data collection program of every single American citizen when he testified before the Senate Intelligence committee and denied its existence.

James Clapper, former DNI chief and now, favorite guest of media outlets looking to attack President Trump, either has a terrible, terrible memory, or he was kept in the dark about a FISA order that occurred on his watch, or he’s just a liar. Can’t think of any other options here, can you?

men named in the case were presented before the ATC. The accused had been held in Haripur Central Prison.

A second hearing will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) in which the prosecution and defence will present their arguments. Mashal's father, Iqbal Khan, will appear before the court on Wednesday.

All those indicted in the case have pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
In April, a vigilante mob, incited by rumours, had attacked Khan for allegedly "publishing blasphemous content online". The mass communication student, enrolled in Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM), was beaten and shot by the mob. He later departed this vale of tears.

A report compiled by the 13-member joint investigation team probing the lynching stated that a group in AWKUM had incited a mob against the student on the pretext of blasphemy. It added that no proof was found that Mashal Khan had ever committed the offence.

MP Zahir Qadir hands over guard to police over murder charges
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Haji Zahir Qadir, politician representing Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province in the Lower House of the Parliament, has handed over one of his guards to police over murder charges.

Provincial governor’s front man Ataullah Khogyani said the guard was handed over to Nangarhar police commandment late on Monday evening.

No further details have been given regarding the circumstances surrounding the involvement of Haji Qadir’s guard in the murder case.

Khogyani had earlier said President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
has ordered a probe into the incident.

He said an investigation was launched hours before Haji Qadir hand over his guard to the police.

According to Khogyani, the guard was accused of killing a civilian identified as Gulistan but it is yet not clear why the civilian was rubbed out.

This is not the first time reports emerge regarding the killing of civilians by the government security guards but numerous such incidents have taken place in other provinces and cities, including capital Kabul.

However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
the majority of the incidents in the past have taken place due to errors and misunderstandings as the security guards mistake the civilians for murderous Moslems and open fire on them, specifically when the civilians conduct gun sexs or refrain from the warnings issued to them.

Thai government, rebels blame each other for delay
[Bangkok Post] Thailand's military government and the main southern separatist faction traded blame for delay in setting up a "safety zone" as a confidence-building measure. Negotiations on the zone ended last week in Malaysia without full agreement.

On Monday, the Mara Patani faction said that bringing about a safety zone had been "a little delayed", because some details, "especially from the Thai side", had not been adequately addressed, but that did not mean talks had failed. Abu Hafez Al-Hakim said in a statement, "The correct approach is to continue dialogue, not walking away from it."

During the weekend, Thailand's lead negotiator had said the rebels were not ready for the safety zone, despite the sincerity of the government. General Aksara Kerdphol said, "If the dissidents are not ready, then people's participation in the process will be delayed, adding that talks would continue.

The intended safety zone would be jointly administered by Thai authorities and the separatists in a district of the three southernmost provinces. Within the zone, neither side would attack the other.

"If you want to create peace you have to work with your enemy," Al-Hakim said, saying he was hopeful the zone could be set up within three to six months.

But the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) group, which has more control over combatants than other factions, has not joined talks. A leader of the group said last week that the ongoing negotiations were doomed. Pak Fakih said in a rare interview that safety zones could be "a trick by the military in trying to uncover the insurgent networks".

The leader of another rebel group, Patani United Liberation Organisation (PULO), also said he was uneasy about the government's safety zone plan, but would go along with it in the spirit of cooperation. Kasturi Mahkota said violence would continue for now as the only way to get the government to listen.
"And if that's not the spirit of cooperation, I don't know what is."

Two Maoist militants killed in Zamboanga clash
[Mindanao Examiner] Security forces killed two suspected communist militants in a clash in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga del Norte. Police said the weekend fighting broke out in the remote village of Panganuran in Sibuco town.

The bodies of the slain gunmen were retrieved by troops and policemen and handed over to village officials. There was no report of casualties on the police and military side.

The fighting coincided with President Duterte’s pronouncement that he is open to resume stalled peace talks with communist leaders, but said he will have to discuss this with the police and military.

Duterte scrapped the talks early this year after he failed to convince communist peace negotiators to sign a bilateral truce. New People's Army negotiators said Duterte must first release some 500 political prisoners before they agree on a cease-fire.

Duterte previously said he cannot pursue peace talks with rebels while they continue attacking government and military and police targets. He also threatened to launch new offensives against the NPA if they continue deadly attacks.

Rebels have rejected the cease-fire demand saying it is tantamount to surrendering to the government. “Duterte’s demand for an NPA cease-fire while the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) conduct an all-out war as precondition for peace talks is a demand to surrender. This is an unacceptable. Duterte has lost all moral ground to make such a demand."
