#1 One of the points made in the column is that government doesn't like the competition from charity - they can do a lot more with a lot less, which makes gov't look bad. So it's not all about the revenue.

#2 If the only reason you're giving to charity is for the tax deduction, it's not charity. It's more an option of where you'd rather the 'redistribution' goes to.

#4 Eliminating charitable deductions and mortgage interest as proposed IF they go to a flat tax without exception. It is the only way to equitably raise revenue (taxes). SS is broken because the income ceiling is only $113,000 unfairly taxing the most those who are dependent upon it the most. The 98%s have some legit beefs but the proposed fixes are ill-conceived if not flat out destructive--taking us down a black hole and destroying the nation as we know it.

#5 I vote we confiscate all wealth and property belonging to demonrats and sell their organs.

#6 Kojo, SS has an income ceiling because it also has a benefit ceiling. That was the selling point in the 1930s: you got back a pension based on what you paid in. If the payout was capped, it stood to reason that the contribution would be capped as well.

All taxes on earned income (and thus spending) are morally wrong.
Become capitalist and tax land rental values like Adam Smith and David Ricardo (no friends of Marx and Malthus respectively).

#8 But what about planned parenthood and PBS? Oh wait I already pay for them through taxes. How about elimating tax dollars to charity.

Money and property OK, SB, but who the hell would want their organs?

#10 ...the Chinese? Better the organs from the well fed than prisoners.

#11 How about letting people direct the money they would pay in tax to charities instead...
None of this charitable deduction... Just You (not bureaucrats) directing your tax @ charity

Not the livers, that's for sure (c.f Ted Kennedy) - but the brain would be relatively unused.
